This film is by far the best film that i have seen in the last 2 years from beginning to end it has some the best speacil effects i have seen ............ it is the best dam film ever released this year , i urge you to go see it it is amazing........ Take my word for it , it made me jump of m,y seat and scream COME YOU ROBOTS KCIK SOME *censored*!!!! AND i dont do that 2 often last time i did that was when blade was released and i smashed my phone lol ......... bu this film is a must!!!!

sound track linkin park!!!! my fave *censored* band 2 ....... TISS a very good SHOW. I was impressed.when blade was released you SCREAMED about robots and smashed your phone? o.O
but yes. blade was good, and i'm sure this is too. i must see it. the dutch version would be pretty funny too No what i said was ........... i was so hyped up on blade i smashed my hand on sofa only to of hit my phone , out of the anger that blade was loosening agasint the blood god........

You love to contradict everything don't ya reaper you must get really UHH.. hyped up about movies? o.O?
lolI watched the movie 4 times last week. Awesome movie...and my favorite song at the end What I've Done? That's like Linkin Park's only good song in their new album. A shame, really....

But the movie ruled!!! Do you think there may be a sequel, because StarScream flew into space at the end?Quote from: Dark Blade on July 25, 2007, 12:31:36 AM

What I've Done? That's like Linkin Park's only good song in their new album. A shame, really....

But the movie ruled!!! Do you think there may be a sequel, because StarScream flew into space at the end?
well usually when , theres a massive quote at the end saying there going to stay on earth blah blah blah , it means expect more trouble aka a sequel i think it would be good if that made a prequal like only show there planet and how that megatron betrayed them and that .... and linkin parks new album is top notch its not as good as hybrid theory or meteroa , but its still *censored* good , the songs impact the the amercain way of life and how its become croup over the last few years and linkin park do a great job in explainning that in there lyrics as it reached me with such power and emotion........... The movie is just to good to be true!
I love it.
I can't wait to get on Blue ray!!

Jonas Well, I'll add my 2 cents worth here too... I LOVED the movie!!! It was my favorite of all time! I thought the special effects were amazing on Spidey 3.... after I saw Transformers it just blew Spidey out of the water! It was awesome!!! Right after I saw the movie I went to Walmart and bought the SOUNDTRACK. I love Linkin Park's song! I'm not a huge fan of theirs but I do like that song. That's almost the only cd I ever listen to anymore and I've had it for close to 3 weeks now. Great movie!!!I just GOTTA comment here!!! My oldest daughter is in this movie. She is in the scene where a few people are running away from a green (?) cloud. This was before she got her SAG card so she isn't in the credits.

As an aside: She will be in the new reality series, On the Lot. She is in the short film about back seat driving and is the nun on the back of a tandum bicycle. Not a SAG film or she would have asked for stunt pay! LOL Seems a driver took some liberties with his driving in front of the bike!! Oh, her screen name is Jenese Mari. Or Jenese English. When she got her SAG she was Jenese Mari, but I am thinking I am remembering she switched to her last name.

Let me know if you see her!! She has entirely too much fun! (Not what you are thinking, the woman lives with God)Quote from: JannE on July 30, 2007, 08:40:18 AM

Finally got around to seeing this as well and it was a great show (4 stars). However, not a show for young kids.

HAHA , , i thnk thats a little to high , mine spotter!! You are right about it giving you discipline and a good record.... But then it's also dangerous.Definitely not my thing, but you've got my support if you decide to go through with it. HR Interviewer: "So tell me Tony, what IT relevant knowledge did you gain in the army?"
Tony: "I can pull a Sherman tank apart and re-assemble it in 30 minutes under intense incoming."

HR Interviewer: "Not much use for that in IT Tony, anything else you can do?"
Tony: "I was the best in the battalion at laying down a 75mm howitzer."

SORRY to seem so negative Tony but I just think that a 4-year stint in the armed forces will be a waste of time for you and will do nothing to advance your chances of a job in IT, the army is there to train personnel in the gentle arts of killing not to prepare them for getting the job of their dreams on return to civvy street. The 4-years, or at least part of it, would be best spent on gaining a formal education, if not a degree at least some recognised educational achievement. Then the interview could go...

HR Interviewer: "Tell me Tony, what IT relevant knowledge do you have?"
Tony: "I have completed papers 1, 2 and 3 of a fulltime course in computer science at Milton Keynes Technical College but now need to have an income which will allow me to continue to study on a part-time basis."

So you now present yourself as an achiever with some relevant knowledge who wishes to continue to expand his knowledge.

My very best to you, I hope that, in the long term, you are happy with the decision you make.

Best wishes if you decide to join and I hope it will give you all you're looking for.

Solve : It’s official: Van Halen to launch tour in Sept.?

Answer»

25-date TREK begins in Charlotte, N.C., will end in Calgary in December
Reuters
Updated: 4:02 p.m. ET Aug 13, 2007

LOS ANGELES - Van Halen will tour with David Lee Roth for the first time since the flamboyant singer quit more than 20 years ago, they announced at a news conference on Monday.

Roth, 52, spoke virtually nonstop at the event, promising that the band’s upcoming 25-date North American trek was merely the precursor to a world tour and to a new album.

“This is not like the Police,” Roth said, referring to another band that recently papered over personality differences to launch a one-off reunion tour. “The idea is that this will continue on and on and on.”

“We think we got it right this time,” Roth added. “You come and judge the performance harshly, please. I beg you, come on down and see.”

Roth’s reunion with guitarist Eddie Van Halen and his older brother, drummer Alex Van Halen, fulfills the fantasies harbored by the band’s fans ever since Roth quit in 1985 and was replaced by Sammy Hagar. But it is not a strict reunion of the classic lineup, famed for such hits as “Panama” and “RUNNIN’ with the Devil,” because bass player Michael Anthony has been replaced by Eddie’s 16-year-old son, Wolfgang.

Roth heaped praise on the band’s newest member, claiming Wolfgang picked the songs the band will perform, and “brings a young energy and a spirit to this that’ll knock you out of your socks.”

Asked about Anthony’s absence, Roth said, “This is not a reunion. This is a new band. ... Usually when a band comes back like us it’s rockers with walkers and this is EVERYTHING but. Meet us in the future, not the past.”

The tour begins September 27 in Charlotte, North Carolina, and wraps up December 11 in the Canadian city of Calgary. Key stops include Chicago (October 16, 18), New York City (November 13) and their native Los Angeles (November 20).

Roth and Van Halen were supposed to hit the road earlier, but PLANS fell through when Eddie Van Halen entered rehab in March for undisclosed issues. His illness scuttled a potential reunion at the group’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction later that month.

With Hagar at the helm, Van Halen maintained its WINNING edge into the 1990s, with such tunes as “Right Now” and “Why Can’t This Be Love.” Roth, meanwhile, faded into relative obscurity. In recent years, he had did stints as a paramedic and a morning radio show host.

The band’s luck ran out in 1996, when Hagar quit acrimoniously, Roth rejoined to record two songs and was then replaced by a third singer, Gary Cherone. His sole album with the band, 1998’s “Van Halen III” tanked, and the band spent much of the subsequent decade in the wilderness.

Eddie Van Halen battled cancer during this time, and his marriage to actress Valerie Bertinelli ended.

[showing my age here* I saw these guys in the early eighties (Diver Down concert) and it was one of the better concerts I had been to) Van Halen is VERY-LOUD in concert be warned, Eddy is absolutely amazing "live" !! Highly recommended concert as long as Dave remembers the words.......

Solve : Land Rover experts needed?

Answer»

OK, so I'm back, and so on.
But I still don't have a lot of time, sorry.
So don't expect to see me around much.
With that in mind, I'll keep my (slightly odd) question brief.

Are there any Land Rover EXPERTS or enthusiasts here?
I ask because if there are not there isn't much point asking my other questions.
Also, does anyone know of any good Land Rover FORUMS?
I have found several through the miracle of Google, but I'd like a good one, so if someone knows of one with a good reputation or some good people please reply.
Thanks in advance.
Calum.A friend of mine is a Landrover expert but he doesn't do the internet thing Calum.
If you have some specific questions I can run them past him for you.Pretty general stuff really.
I'm looking at getting a classic (pre-72, no road tax) Land Rover as my first car, on the recommendation of a friend.
Basically, I'm just trying to find out how feasible it is, and what I need to be looking for. Not having owned a car before, I have only a basic knowledge of all things vehicular.

A few of the questions I have are as follows.
How practical is a Series Land Rover to a new driver? I may or may not have driven one before (it's illegal to drive without a license, so of course I haven't, officially, but if I did it was on a deserted woodland road with no danger involved, and I found it pretty easy) but is it too hard to navigate the road in one?
What sort of fuel efficiency can I expect? If I'm looking at a gas guzzler that I have to put £100 of petrol in each week it's no use, I haven't got that sort of money.
And, following from that, what engine should I look for? Petrol or diesel? And what size? WHat are the benefits of each, and the drawbacks?
What are the major differences, other than age, between the Series 1, 2, 2A and 3 Land Rovers?
Am I right in discounting the Forward Control models? As I understand it they are fairly rare and look a bit like a motor home, I don't think they'd be much good to me.
There are long wheel base and standard wheel base variants. I understand that LWB are larger and can therefore fit more people/stuff in them and SWB are better for off-roading (which I don't plan on doing a lot, at least not to the extent that SWB vs LWB will be important). Are there any other differences or reasons I should get the long or standard variants?
How easy is a Series Land Rover to repair? Could I learn to repair and maintain it myself?

I think that's everything for now but if I think of anything else I'll add it in.
I understand if your friend doesn't want to spend time answering some random 16-year old's newbie questions, so no worries if they don't have time or whatever, or if I'm barking up the wrong tree entirely.Mate, unless you live in a remote area without roads then I suggest you forget the landrover idea all together.
16 years old, limited money, limited car knowledge = Go & buy an old Escort. InThe-UK-ThinkToyota

AlsoHere Yep Toyota MAKE great cars. Mate, are you wanting to learn how to drive in a Landrover?!

Mate, are you wanting to learn how to drive in a Landrover?!

Chris
I was.
I'm not so sure now though.
I think I'll have to TALK it over again with the guy who suggested it to me originally.
I just want something a bit different, you know?
I still have around 9 months before I can even think about getting a car anyway.
Quote from: Fed on August 24, 2007, 02:01:55 PM
Mate, unless you live in a remote area without roads then I suggest you forget the landrover idea all together.
Nope, on the outskirts of a city.
When all said and done though, they are pretty nice cars, and they are majorly different from most people's first cars.Yea theres a few things that probabily will hold you back. For starters having a Land Rover as a first car, for a young driver is gonna push your insurence through the roof.
Second I wouldnt recommend learning to drive in a Land Rover as if you do learn to drive in one and then actually get a smaller car, for example a 1.1 its a massive jump.
I honestly think youll be best learning on something like a Corsa, thats what my mates learn in. I however use our HONDA Civic.

ChrisInsurance was going to be one of the last things I considered because it seems more complicated.
The fact that there was no road tax was a plus though, as was the fact that the car itself can be pretty inexpensive.
I'll have a chat with the guy who recommended it anyway, and probably come back and have changed my mind again.

Solve : UFO's?

Answer»

Although I say fake still fun to watch these UFO's in this video. After Bungee sold off to Microsoft I dropped out of the Halo game, so any Halo players out there (I know there are a few) let me know if this is some type of Microsoft Campaign since many of the posts say they are Halo 3 UFO's.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=up5jmbSjWkwI have seen a UFO but it didn't look like that.
Perhaps it was from a different PLANET or a new model, the one I saw was 30 years ago.
(Not joking about this, deadly serious)I wish I saw a UFO.... that would be so cool...I wish I saw and board their UFO and steal it.the things AROUND the edge look like the tops of the palm trees o.O
im not sure about this but flying saucers are real.. the first flying saucers that could fly were MADE in natzi germany during the second world war by the english electric company , they were destroyed on the runways when they were INVADED near the end of the war I've seen stuff like that on tv, but it's all real, they are just driods that the army uses, and they could easily be mistaken for UFOs.Its fake the ships have been modded onto the video..... Round twoHehehe.... the second one kinda looked like an imperial cruiserHeh, I went on one of the video responses to this (there's quite a few, ACTUALLY), and there were hundreds of comments about if it's a hoax or not....

Solve : Scientist - " We have broken the speed of light!"?

Answer»
'We have broken speed of light'

By Nic Fleming, Science Correspondent
Last Updated: 12:01am BST 16/08/2007

A pair of German physicists claim to have broken the speed of light - an achievement that would undermine our ENTIRE understanding of space and time.

According to Einstein's special theory of relativity, it would require an infinite amount of energy to propel an object at more than 186,000 miles per second.

However, Dr Gunter Nimtz and Dr Alfons Stahlhofen, of the University of Koblenz, say they may have breached a key tenet of that theory.
advertisement

The pair say they have conducted an experiment in which microwave photons - energetic packets of light - travelled "instantaneously" between a pair of prisms that had been moved up to 3ft apart.

Being able to travel faster than the speed of light would lead to a wide variety of bizarre consequences.

For instance, an astronaut moving faster than it would theoretically arrive at a destination before leaving.

Ummm... I can't buy this. Assume a destination 120 million light years away. Thats the distance light would travel in 120 million years. Even at speeds faster than light, I don't think we would get there any time soon. It's this whole complex space and time relativity thing I don't know.
I remeber watching a movie when a guy goes to the moon the speed of light and he ended up in the past and when we got back to Earth, he watched his 10 year old son being born or something.Wow! A ten year old being born? Bwahaha!

Then you could only travel back in time is that the case ?

Solve : iOS App: "Make it Rain: For the Love of Money" Money Exploit?

Answer»

For administration: This is NOT CONSIDERED off-topic because this sub-sub-section under Home > Other > Off-Topic > Forum games is for posting information about games and this is exactially what this is so you have no right to suspend this post.

For all: I am not responsible for any of the apps you open to mess up because you have changed the time in your PHONE or exploited this exploit in this game. Thank you

I just got the game yesterday and today I already have 203MB dollars! (That is million billion.) A friend showed me this game and I though it was cool do I got the game too. At first, I thought it was really about being at a strip club. Really, now all I think it was meant to be was a fun game that you have fun making it rain and ranking up money. I was thinking of some ways to increase my money assesibly and I have found one. First of all, open the game and get as much money to increase your bucket size. Get it at LEAST as big at 5k or more. Then press the home button on your iPhone/iPod/iPad and go to Settings > GENERAL > Time & Date > Switch of "Set Automatically". Then click the row two rows down from "Set Automatically". Set the time a couple days later depending on how FAST your bucket fills up. Then double-tap your home button and switch back to Make It Rain. In your bucket you show see it filled up to the top or not depending on how fast your bucket fills up and how much days or hours you skipped foward. This might also affect other apps you open while your time is changed. To change your time back to normal, switch on "Set Automatically".

Hope you guys enjoyed this very small tutorial but it can work as many times as you want. See you in the next post! First of all, try not to sound like you're giving orders. Second, I'm moving this to the games forum where it belongs.Ok that's fine. I thought it went under off topic because it wasn't a computer game. Derp It does belong in off-topic, you're right - just not in the "forum games" area where you originally had it. We were both wrong . I'll move it to the correct spot now and sorry for the sea sickness. No problem, just a small mistake, we all have it some times.

Solve : Is $2000 too much??

Answer»

Currently, I am 11 and almost 12. My birthday is coming up in May so I picked out some things on the Apple Store app and adding then to my birthday list. I don't want to go to OVERBOARD but I have been wanting a laptop for a while and decided to choose a Apple Mac OS X Yosemite. The only thing on my list is a 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display.
Quote

Specs:
• 16 GB RAM
• 256GB Flash Storage
I do have some side stuff which is [cheaper] than the Mac, like a carry AROUND briefcase or bag to hold it in and a small little rubber eclipse black case like a bumper case for iPhone but make for a Mac and AppleCare to put insurance on it. I didn't want to go to overkill on my list but I decided this will also count for my next birthday too. Adding this all together will round about $2,000-$2,500. What do you think and what do you thing I should downgrade or get rid of.I'm not really sure what your question is. Though you asked "What do you think".

I think putting together such an exorbinant shopping list of gifts for your birthday is rather self-indulgent.

of course, I don't know your parents. Maybe you have a diamond-studded swimming pool and solid gold Humvees, and a $2500 laptop is "Quaint".

At one time buying a personal computer for $2000 was reasonable for individuals with prior experience and a need for better equipment.

Have you any expedience with the Apple OS? What are the things you really like to do with a computer?

I was thinking about offering some alternatives to the Mac Book. But I have to ADMIT, there is no real substitute. It is in a class by itself. Still, I think a young person should be exposed to others things that are available, to a reasonable degree.

You might want to read this item:

Best alternatives to the new Mac Book

Quote
If you’re looking elsewhere for a slim, fancy wedge of a laptop, you’ll find many choices. Ever since the arrival in 2008 of so-called Ultrabooks, exemplified by the first MacBook Air, we’ve been living in a golden age of laptops. These uber-portable PCs offer solid performance in impossibly slender frames weighing less than 3 pounds. Depending on the machine, prices are low, too—a consumer-friendly side effect of the STRUGGLING PC business.
What the author is saying is that now is the time to think about looking around. Apple now has more competition than ever.

You probably already know that the Apple OS wants to run only on an Apple. So if you want to go with some other, the Windows 8.1 would be the OS you would USE on any top performance laptop other than Apple.

Now, in favor of the Mac Book. It can run either OS. You can have the Apple OS, or the latest Windows OS. There is no other retail machine that can do that. So that still makes it the top choice. If you want to spend that much money now.

BTW: Windows 10 is coming with promises of better things. Like BC_Programmer said, unless your parents are wealthy, asking for a $2000 birthday gift is too much. Maybe your parents need to start teaching you about the value of money. You could ask to do chores around the house and then see how long it would take you to earn $2000. That may give you some perspective on how much money $2000 is.

Ultimately though, only your parents can say if asking for a MBP for your birthday is too much. Why don't you try talking to them and asking if there is an amount they'd be willing to spend for your birthday, then see if there's some things you'd like to suggest around that amount?

The Mark: Scientist Claims Human Microchip Implants Will Become “Not Optional”

Study Finds 1 in 3 Americans Have Been Implanted With RFID Chips:

The Truth Behind the Obamacare RFID Implant Myth (Obamacare Version)

Yes, these are old stories now. From 2013 onward.
My question is: Why is there no more information on this topic?
Those links are clearly for some conspiracy theory sites, if you insist on linking news articles, please do so from reputable sources. Surely the fact that you can't find any evidence in other places indicates that the information on those links is obviously made up... Fair replay. Some are say in it will kill you. That is rather extreme. People with Guns ALREADY do that all the time. More likely, the implant will put you in JAIL. But resisting arrest could kill you i too.
Now did you sees this?
Quote

...following Wisconsin and North Dakota, California issued Senate Bill 362 in 2007, which prohibits employers and others from forcing anyone to have a RFID device implanted under their skin.
On April 5, 2010, Georgia, Atlanta, Senate passed Senate Bill 235 that prohibits forced microchip implants in humans and that would make it a misdemeanor for anyone to require them, including employers.

So some people in Congress do not like the idea.
However, the medical arguments against the device are based on evidence, not hysterical. The FDA has strict rules about what you implant in human tissue.

Aside from the political implications --
Is this really the next evolution in technology?
Don't we already have enough ways to ID people?
Would it hurt to have more?
Please provide relevant links. Just throwing this out there - We already do this exact same thing to dogs and cats and I'm not aware of any problems with those injuring animals when they come too close to a magnetic source or whatever those tinfoil hat people claim. However, the medical arguments against the device are based on evidence, not hysterical.
No they aren't. Your sources here are hardly any more reputable than the sources you used to present a very similar topic already.

-Infowars, for EXAMPLE, has claimed repeatedly that the Boston Bombing was a "false flag" attack; that the U.S government effectively perpetrated it. You can guess what other terrorist event they claim was perpetrated the same way. I won't even bother giving them the extra traffic; their "evidence" consists of people wearing back-packs. No, I'm not making that up. People wore backpacks near the finish line, therefore, government conspiracy. A bunch of idiot nutjobs whose inability to present even a basic, logically sound argument is apparently the only qualification they needed.

-SHTF is a "Survivalist" website. These are websites created by individuals who believe the apocalypse is coming and who stockpile guns, ammo, and food to prepare for the coming "Doomsday". These individuals are more often than not also incapable of climbing stairs without having to catch their breath, so it is probably a good thing for their survival that their ludicrous scenario is not going to play out, since if it did I don't think "unable to climb stairs without breaking a sweat" would prevent their skull from being used as a soup bowl. Needless to say, their articles are generally WRITTEN with a rather strongly biased perspective and tend to ignore when their own sources are garbage. usually they just invent nonsense or spin real information to fabricate their own ridiculous plotline.

-the "National Report" story looks credible, or, it would, if the National Report didn't also have articles such as "IRS set to target leprechauns next". Another big issue is that their source, "Wyoming Institute of technology" doesn't exist, and is a satire website. This should be fairly clear given that they are the source of the "studies" for National Report articles such as Solar panels drain the sun's energy as well as having the honourable distinction, as they show on their About page, of creating the first organic artificial nose for Michael Jackson as well as:

Quote
In December of 1999, WIT literally saved the world, after our computer science researchers managed to stop the Y2K virus from spreading globally. The Y2K virus would have caused airplanes to fall from the sky, the stock market to crash, cars to stop functioning, cell phones to randomly dial strangers, and more. WIT’s tireless work led to several WIT researchers being awarded a Nobel Peace Prize in 2000, and Presidential Medals of Freedom in both 2000 and 2001.

In fact, all their pages have pretty obvious hints the entire site is satirical.

Ranks right up there with the Onion...Quote from: camerongray on April 06, 2015, 08:41:10 AM

Yes, you got that right. Short range passive tags that are in people's pets.

When the story first came out, some did claim it is part of a big-brother plan to track everybody and punish those who stray too far.
Reportedly some German inventor tried to get patent of RFID that could kill somebody on command. I think the patent was denied, because the intention of the device was not justifiable. There are other ways to punish criminals,. And in most jurisdiction capital punishment limits how and where execution takes place. Exceptions are in Warfare and Military rule.

Now could a device kill you by some freak accident? There are two real concerns. First the the case of allergic reaction of the body to a foreign object. The second is contamination from germs that might attach to the device while it was injected.the.. It was documented, but is not a real problem.

Of greater concern is the amount of information about travel habits. One can imagine that upon arrival at a overseas airport, a check would be made as to your medical history. This information could also be used to track the movements of frequent flyers, presumably to see if t hey might be involved is subversive activities.

Like you said, the mas media used this a a means to grab your attention. The sad thing is that it was broadcast by NBC here in the USA and, to o my knowledge, no retraction was made.

Recently, last month, somebody picked up that NBC story and repeated the general content. See here:

NBC Report Predicts RFID Chips To Be Widely Used In Humans By 2017

At the bottom of the page you will find the video clip of the 2008 NBC story.
EDIT: NBC did not say it will kill you. Another site made the claim and linked to the NBC story to support the idea.
RFID implanted Chip that Kills you if you disobey-NBC predicting RFID implants for all Americans by 2017 ?
That headline makes it sound like NBC said that.
Please look at the link above. It goes way way beyond d what NBC said. you are linking to and reading posts that are...

sensational nonsense. The effort if just going through your links and showing why they are full of crap is a full-time job.

Take the "Anonhq" article. Again- another conspiracy theory haven- this site also has articles talking about how Obama has been "proven" to be Kenyan, How 9/11 was a false flag, and how aliens are controlling the government and world religions in order to plan an invasion. (No, I am not making that up).

My point? These sites are not reputable sources. Just read the article you linked. It uses the following segment of a bill that passed:

Quote
The SECRETARY shall establish a national medical device registry (in this subsection referred to as the 11 ‘registry’) to facilitate analysis of post-market safety and 12 outcomes data on each device that— ‘‘(A) is or has been used in or on a patient; and ‘‘(B) is— ‘‘(i) a class III device; or ‘‘(ii) a class II device that is implantable, 17 life-supporting, or life-sustaining.
Fair enough- a national registry for medical devices for analyzing their safety for implantation and whether they perform life-sustaining functions. Seems reasonable to regulate the industry creating said devices, and we certainly wouldn't want to have microchip pacemakers being implanted that were cheap chinese knock-offs.

But no. Apparently that passage "proves" that the intended use is to "serve as the ultimate form of surveillance and subjugation.". Oh, look- how convenient that their conclusion fits so neatly with the wildly atrophied worldview that they seem to have. Shame it is entirely unsupported by the oft-cited NBC video.

Quote
Like you said, the mas media used this a a means to grab your attention. The sad thing is that it was broadcast by NBC here in the USA and, to o my knowledge, no retraction was made.
No "retraction" is necessary, because it was NOT broadcast by NBC; the video linked is a NBC broadcast from 2007, and it suggests that microchips might be used in the future to record a person's medical data in case of emergency. It does not suggest that it will be used to track travel habits or anything involving an overseas airport, most of it just babbles about existing implementations of things like fingerprint identification and iris scanning.

The health concerns with allergic reactions and foreign objects are no different with any implant of this form than with already common devices such as pacemakers.

This is off topic. It is worth noting, "naturalnews" is a fairly well-known source of psuedo-scientific and downright false information, and is not a very trustworthy source of news.

The "naturalnews" articles, when they have a source, typically veer quickly away from the presented facts and start to "speculate", using poorly structured logic to make unreasonable conclusions, usually proferring a concept derived from the dystopian perspective of many conspiracy theorists in almost all of these articles.

1. "Companies begin planting microchips under employees' skin"

Compare this article to the "source" articles it presents and you'll see that the article is based on a lot of wanton speculation. It ignores that this particular application is demonstrably more convenient than what it replaces- security cards and avoids the problem of lost, stolen, or forgotten security cards. Instead, the article latches onto the conspiracy bandwagon, and it writes speculatively based on that for all but one paragraph. Likely related to the third articles "conclusions".

2. "RFID tracking armbands forced on all residents near California music festival"

This claims a source in the LA times:

Quote
According to a recent report by the Los Angeles Times (LAT), the Coachella's use of RFID (radio-frequency identification) wristbands to track attendees has been extended beyond just ticket holders to residents living around the Empire Polo Field where the festival takes place, even though forcing these tracking chips on the public is against the law.
They fail to link the source. However, other websites website covers the same thing, and use this LA times article as evidence. In particular, this quotation:

Quote
No one can so much as get within a mile of the Empire Polo Field, where Coachella is held, without wearing one. Local residents, whose homes surround the polo field, also have to wear one just to get to their houses, and Guitron said homeowners must also register their cars.

The problem is that it is painted as being "forced"; I find this incredibly unlikely. In Areas that have a high-volume, annual event like this, the local HOA of that area typically includes cooperation with additional terms related to that event as a requirement, and those properties that are rented include additional terms in the contract that the tenant must also be in compliance with these terms. I wasn't able to find a PDF or other link to the contract on the applicable HOA website to confirm this, but it would explain why I could also find zero first-hand complaints by people living in the area, since those individuals would be 100% aware of their responsibilities as per the contract.

The third article, titled "Implantable RFID chips capable of remotely killing non-compliant 'slaves' are here" is, of course, sensational. Their logic in the article is effectively:

-RFID Chips can contain poison or cyanide, and be programmed to inject the individual when they receive a certain radio signal.
-RFID chips are APPROVED by the FDA
-Therefore, the Government is planning to use RFID chips to kill people who question them

The last step is, well- a leap and not a logically sound one. It is as sound as:

-Computers can be used to control nuclear weapons
-Computers are constructed by Dell
-Therefore, Dell is planning to kill everyone on Earth using nuclear weapons

To explain- we can pare it the original down to the two statements and conclusion, revised for simplicity:
-RFID chips can be programmed to kill
-The FDA approved RFID chips

-therefore the FDA wants to kill people
Both of these are true. However, the conclusion's (and speculations made in the article) effectively assert that, because RFID chips are approved by the FDA, the government is planning to use them to control track, and kill people. This does not logically follow any more than my Dell example- it is a logical fallacy, which I believe is known as "Affirming the consequent". Only those looking for a particular conclusion will accept this sort of reasoning.Than k you BC.
Yes, it is sensational and should not be taken seriously.
But what is interesting is the improved capabilities of RFID chips. They are being use to improve security, protect property and lower costs of some factory work.

It should be noted that this technology is also laced NFC. The letters represent Near Field Communication. This means data can be sent over a short distance very reliably with modest investment in NFC technology. But it does not work at long range. (References on request.)

For a more academic list of articles try:
Using NFC technology
and find this on Google:
Using NFC technology
A few of these sound sensational, but near as much as the "naturalnews" site I used in the first post.

Solve : Panama Canal Needs Water.?

Answer»

OK, not real news. But a real issue. You already know the Canall has celebrated 100 years. The video was released last year.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1eYZFhPcS4s

Now here is the real problem. The main source of POWER is fresh water from a high reservoir. Trying to do the same with any other form of energy would raise the carbon output of Panama. Or be much too expensive.
Here is the flip side of the story:
Panama Canal Water Problem.
Quote

Currently, an average of 34 ships go through the canal every day, and it takes about 52m gallons of water – roughly 82 Olympic-sized swimming POOLS’ worth – to move each one. That water comes from Gatun Lake and Alajuela Lake, which are fed by the Chagres River. A recent dry spell – linked to El Niño, the temporary warming of surface ocean temperatures in the eastern Pacific – caused the lakes’ water levels to drop significantly.
Short summary. If they ignore the problem. the COST of everything from the pacific east REGION will go up in price, including electronics.

But a economical Hydrogen Fuel cell could be used in many applications besides transportation. And it is not a dream, they have already done most of the work.
Quote

Recently, Toyota announced production of the Mirai hydrogen fuel cell car to be sold in California. But what is a hydrogen fuel cell? Without going into all the DETAILS, the basic idea is that you can get an electrical current when you combine hydrogen with oxygen (you also get water).
But is it really effective? Don't you lose energy by cracking hydrogen and then turning it back into water? Well, the details matter.
Quote
If you need a reliable battery with a large fuel supply, hydrogen fuel cells are a good choice. For EXAMPLE – in space, hydrogen fuel cells are a perfect choice. If everyone on Earth used the fuel cell, we would have a problem making enough hydrogen (and storing it).
Please read the article to understand why Toyota might do it, despite the CRITICS view that it is a silly futile waste of time.

Solve : Smartphone/iPhone with/without GPS?

Answer»

I wish to buy a Smartphone/iPhone for my wife - our TomTom in the car is getting old. Which is cheaper and more advisable? A Smartphone/iPhone with GPS (throw away TomTom), or Smartphone/iPhone without GPS (buy a new TomTom)?
Thanks for any advice.Pretty much any decent smartphone will come with GPS nowadays so it's not LIKE you have to pay loads more to get a smartphone with it. I would definitely go down the route of getting a single smartphone to use as GPS. The only thing to bear in mind is that smartphones tend to need an internet connection to use GPS to get maps and directions, therefore whatever smartphone you buy you would need to make sure you have some sort of mobile DATA on your plan.It depends on what app you use for gps navigation as to whether an internet connection is needed or not. For instance, on Android phones, many people use Google Maps to navigate with but that app requires a data connection because it constantly downloads map data as you drive along. However, you could get an app like CoPilot Live which stores it's map data locally on the phone and does NOT need a data connection while navigating. The drawback is that the app needs a Gig or more of your phone's storage space to store it's maps. Also, CoPilot costs around $10 to buy whereas Google Maps is free.

I don't now what gps navigation apps come with an iPhone but CoPilot is available on that platform as well.Another point. GPS might reefer to a s pacific technology.
Quote

The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a space-based satellite navigation system that provides location and time information in all weather conditions, anywhere on or near the Earth where there is an unobstructed line of sight to four or more GPS satellites.
GPS depends on low orbit satellites. These are visible anywhere on the planet.
But 3G and 4G uses high towers to cover a limited demographic Get out into the desert or badlands and they smartphone does not work. Unless they really have a GPS built into the devices.

Can't speak for iPhone but all of my Android smartphones have had actual gps and when used with the CoPilot app I mentioned above, have been fully functional for gps navigation with absolutely no cellular connection required.

Yep, any decent phone will have a proper GPS unit built in. They tend to use cell towers in addition to this to get a location faster.camerongray, yea and t thanks for the clarification.
Awhile bask it had been an question. But here is an old post from another forum.

Just had a call from someone named Jerry who said he was with a firm called optix.

He wanted to streamline my computer for $179.99 for five years.

Could he be legit?Quote from: copas on DECEMBER 27, 2014, 12:39:47 PM

Could he be legit?
NO. Don't divulge any card details, or make any payment. You would be wasting your money.
Nope, this is a total scam. No LEGITIMATE company will ever phone you about your PC needing work done, EXACTLY the same as how your BANK will never call you asking for details.

Solve : New Research on Natural Gas Storage.?

Answer» This is off TOPIC. It is about new research on natural gas. ( METHANE.)
As you well know, it is a controversial topic. Some hope that science will resolve the global energy demand with new discoveries that will satisfy everyone. Or maybe almost everyone. The title of the report is:

Study FUELS hope for natural gas cars: Metal organic framework candidates for methane STORAGE identified
Quote
Date: December 18, 2014
Source: Rice University
Summary:
Cars that run on natural gas are touted as efficient and environmentally friendly, but GETTING enough gas onboard to make them practical is a hurdle. A new study promises to help. Researchers have calculated the best candidates among possible metal organic frameworks to store natural gas for cars.
Here is the link:
http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2014/12/141218131933.htm

What the report does not do is provide assurance that use of natural gas will really help resolve the other issues implicit in the use of any hydrocarbon product.
Sidebar: This is an engineering problem that requires the use of computers. Rad the article. It is a real number cruncher job.

Solve : phpBB[dot]com Members -- Security Alert?

Answer»

Just thought it would be kind to post a heads up here to help out.

I have a notice on a couple of my sites from the PHPBB team that their site has suffered a serious security breach.

I know this site uses different software, but it can't hurt to help out in such matters.

At least, I can't see how it can hurt, so forgive me if I'm WRONG. And there might just be one or two members here that have ACCOUNTS over there and haven't logged into their APPROPRIATE email accounts to see the notice that goes to those that don't actually have any phpBB software on their sites.

Solve : New Operating system Idea?

Answer»

I was wanting to know weather someone would be nice enough to design me an operating system.

I got quite fascinated with MS Windows a few years ago, the whole evolution of the system. I took a look at the first ever version of Windows. It wasnt actually an OS, just an application which ran on top of Microsofts then-popular MSDOS. It was simpl enough to use but I was saddened by the fact no one wanted to re-create it. so if anyone out there could design or even give me help on designing it with me that would be good (create it and hand me the source code so that I can embed it onto a CD or floppy).

I want it to be a little better than the original version, here are the features I want (Some of these were not present in the original software):
>Keeping the MS-DOS executive but renaming it to the name of the operating system (ie: "(OSName)-Executive2 or just CALL it "File-Executive")
I would be happy if you named it after yourself (such as SteveOS being Steve-Executive)
>I dont care about Internet Access, but it would be a nice addition
>Drag and Drop feature (no manual copy and paste, I want to be able to drag my text files and insert them into a Folder I just created)
>overlapping Windows(Windows 2.0 had this, but 1.0 didnt)
>Longer file names/spaces between words (Windows 1.0/2.0 didnt allow long file names or spaces in filenames)
>Own software Eco-system/Installable apps (have program/apps compatible and can be INSTALLED, If you want to know what software I wish to be compatible, ask and I will provide a seperate list, which isnt very long in that regard compared to other OS's)
>file compatibility, ENABLE some files to be taken from MS Windows, MacOS or Linux (Some Text files, Some Music files and/or some image files) and be able to be opened in this OS
>Multimedia (Like you possibly read above, I would not mind being able to listen to Music or Watch Videos on it)
>Hardware compatibility, other than the average keyboard and mouse, have some compatibility towards USB-based devices such as a Flash Drive or MP3/MP4 players and CD(DVD Drive I am not fussed but would be a nice additional feature).
>Add shortcuts, to stop me having to look through every folder to look for the "calculator" for example, I can create a shortcut to programs or certain files in my designated folder(s).
> Personalisation - Desktop Wallpapers appliance. In Windows 1.0 you could only change the desktop colors or colors to other features such as window title bars or menu bars. I would like to be able to apply a desktop wallpaper

Another feature is only apply the files and folders required for the system running such as system files. I dont want to have folders I dont know what to do with so I can manually add a "My Documents" or personal folder(s) if I wish

Please could someone make this possible?
This request is like asking for some stranger to build you the Titanic for free.

The best WAY to make a custom OS would be to start with Linux and tweak it to your liking in the source code which is open source and then once you like what you have and if you want to share it with others you can name it and document what source it is based off of etc.

I have made custom Live Knoppix CD's etc that are Linux based and free to share with others.

Basing it on the source, reengineered altered Microsoft code without Microsofts approval is illegal.

The closest you could get to this is freedos project. So you want someone to spend years of development time to build you something for free? Not going to happen... Did you honestly expect someone to just go "Here's the code" and give you it?

There is no market for a new operating system built from scratch for a regular PC, why would someone use or develop software for that when there are already much more established OSs out there. Apart from Windows, pretty much every other modern consumer operating system is either UNIX or Linux based, there is a reason for this.

You seem to have a way too simplistic view of what an operating system actually is, it's not just about the UI which is all you are really discussing. What about the scheduling? Hardware compatibility? Multiprocessor support? Memory Management? An OS is WAY more complicated than what it looks like to the end user.

If you really want to do it, you will need to get studying! Noone is just going to build you something for free. If you want to get into developing software, write applications or if you are only interested in operating systems, work on development of an existing open source OS such as Linux.

There are a couple of small operating systems made by small groups of people such as http://mikeos.sourceforge.net/, but they are built purely out of interest, not for regular use.Quote from: 03siname01 on December 14, 2014, 09:19:26 AM

If I was to write a complete, working Operating System, I would not just hand over the source code. "idea-people" get zero credit for implementation. The people wishing to fly did not get credit for the aeroplane.

16-bit Windows is heavily coupled to 16-bit hardware and 16-bit x86 fiobles. It's also not Open Source, which basically means you are saying "Hey, could somebody completely recreate software that took years of engineering by dozens of talented individuals for the purpose of being 100% compatible and reliant on DOS? You just need to make a few minor changes, like not relying on DOS and not taking several years and only made by one person. Yeah and if you could then just give me the source code to that, that would be great."

Solve : Urban legends: Why computers get slower.?

Answer»

This is more that off topic. It is off the wall.

Reason why computers get slower.
... because the updates make the computer fatter?
... virus things slow don the clock?
... big hard drives get smaller with time?
... when the internet slows down it drags you computer with it?

^ error - can not end sarcasm in context!

Ask AROUND. Some of the answers are even more goofy.
People are being told to get a new computer if the olde one is old. !I put the #1 culprit on hard disk drive failing/failure combined with incompetent/unscrupulous techs. Drive failures really do manifest themselves in a way that can easily be mistaken for the system itself crumbling apart, and inscrupulous technicians can easily use that as a launching point "Yep, the entire system board failed, here, buy this new system" (and incompetent techs can come to the same conclusion).

I think 'obsolescence' in terms of computers is a bit contrived. Not being able to run Windows 7 or Windows 8 or a newer Linux distribution doesn't mean a system is necessarily useless- Depending on what a person does, they probably don't need the latest hardware. If a person just needs to use a computer to print out their weekly Goat enthusiast newsletter, they can get by with a Laserjet 3 and a 386, for example. A lot of the time when people purchase a computer it is based on what they want to do with it, but not always what they actually do with it, if that makes any sense. Sometimes it is a way for them to "justify" the cost of the new system "Sure, it's expensive, but now I can get back into drafting" so they go all in and buy AutoCAD and such... then they use it for FACEBOOK and watching cat videos on youtube. Some years ago I had no choice but to buy a new unit -- actually, many years ago -- because the two I had were like really, really so slow. BUT I still have them and a big BOX of the floppy discs with all sorts of neat programs on them. And I mean the original floppies, where the name came from. See, those two old geezers up there on that shelf are Trash 80s. Actually, I have parts of a third that was stripped to make its brothers work.

And to explain how slow I tell folks that I could input a command and go make lunch and eat it and come back and maybe, just maybe, the command would have been run.

About 10 something years ago I was yakking with some folks and mentioned I was probably going to throw them away and one bloke gave me a stunned look and said I'd be a fool to do that as they would someday be collector's items. So I've kept them. That might have been more like 15 years ago. Been a long time. I did have to reinforce the shelf where they now pass their days. They are seriously heavy.

Strange, as I type this post, I am reminded of so many years ago when I used to dazzle friends with things I could do on those units. Awful long time ago. Might even be said to be another era. Guess that's right, isn't it? But even then some of us knew what was coming. And you should read some of the stuff I think will happen in the future. Of course, some close friends have read tidbits of my thoughts on the future of this field and they just chuckle or smirk and say, "There you go again. We know you're nuts. No need to keep proving it." Like my idea of a single family of languages for all devices and programs. And I am even thinking that it might be narrowed down to just one language, no single family that would have what might be described as dialects.

And my thoughts on what is going to replace the hard drive -- well, that would just have you leaving the room. Yep, I also know I'm nuts. But I can't turn off the visions. Heck, I still remember the first time somebody gave me the program for the little dancing fellas for my TRS80. We've come a long, long way since then.

Slow computers? Well, I have slow. Really slow. And they were fun. In their time.Quote from: MichaelNyby on December 09, 2014, 07:47:12 PM

TRS-80's go for around $100 on ebay; $200 or so, if you have all the boxes. Would be pretty silly to throw them out at this point, when you can sell them, even if you won't make an actual profit overall.

Are they TRS-80 CoCo's? I liked the trick to DISPLAY 44 colors on-screen at once by switching between video modes during VBLANK. As far as those TRS-80s, i would sell them vs throwing them away. The heavy ones were the Model III and Model IV's. I owned a Model I everything connected separately and a Model III all in 1 unit with display, computer, drive, and keyboard. The Model III was better in that it took up less space and had more memory, but being an all in 1 unit when it needed to be serviced it was a pita. I sold my TRS-80s years ago and I wish I kept them, although if I had them today they would pretty much just sit as antiques away from direct sunlight and almost never powered.

Planned Obsolescence is the driving force behind computers getting slower in some cases.

Usually its just that the complexity of the programs running increases and so the CPU/GPU eventually is burdened by computations that are beyond what the CPU/GPU's were originally designed to realistically handle. And so performance declines over time if your constantly updating to newest versions of software, installing more modern software, and hardware remains the same.

If you are someone who can get by with a system that is out of date but running software that is dated similarly to that of the older computer, you can use that system for many years beyond when most would consider it obsolete.

I for example have some computers that I run offline that are obsolete such as a Pentium III 1Ghz Laptop with 512MB RAM, and 16MB nVidia GPU that is horrible for web use beyond e-mail and simple google searches, but running it only offline with Windows XP SP2 with no further security patches or service packs it plays older games very well such as Diablo II and Unreal Tournament 99, as well as it still works perfect for serial connection to older serial port Cisco devices etc to make changes etc when most modern laptops do not have a DB9 serial port unless you use one of those USB to serial dongles etc.

Planned Obsolescence is basically designing products to only have a set life expectancy in which for computers and other computerized devices in order for the manufacturers to thrive they need to make sure that your a returning customer since they wouldnt make any money selling computers that last 15 years and so they engineer them to only last an average life expectancy, they also design them to have limitations to maximum resources and so motherboards are designed to only take up to 2GB RAM for example in which they could have been designed to take 4Gb or 8GB at the time, but weren't. As well as the CPU's for the motherboards are changed intentionally to make sure that a newer CPU type can not be installed into an older socket. ( *Although AMD has been really awesome with their AM2+ and AM3+ CPU sockets that allow for newer CPU's to be stuffed into older board -or- older CPU stuffed into newer board so that you dont have to swap out motherboards as frequently to upgrade systems. ) Intel though hasn't been as nice to make sockets that work among older and newer CPUs, although someone created a cool socket 775 mod to allow for Xeon server CPU's to be installed into some socket 775 desktop boards with a pin mask and redirection kit as well as cutting out some plastic bumps from the 775 socket.

As far as Planned Obsolescence and OS, its in the best interest of Microsoft to create patches where the source is hidden from view to be strategically inefficient if they have a newer OS out there that they are promoting. They want you to make the leap from your older OS to the newer one spending money to upgrade either in the new OS direct or a whole new computer that they get a piece of the pie on the sale of the computer since their newest OS is bundled with it, and so if they wanted to, they could make security updates that while take care of real security issues also are coded in such a way to create intentional lag to systems. * There is no proof to this since the source code to updates is hidden from view to inspect its intent, but I have a feeling that this could be happening.

In comparison Windows OS's seem to lag out faster than Linux OS's. And this may be because the source for Linux is out in the open, is coded more efficiently vs building onto old code that is riddled with inefficiencies, and there is no need to lag out an OS when its free to get the newest version of it. So there is no need to nudge people by lag to push them into a newer version of it. Also though to Windows defense its targeted far greater for malware and virus's that slow it down as well. But also comparing the 2 are like apples to oranges. They are very different even though similar.

The best running systems I have ever owned were ones that operated mostly offline though where without updates to software and OS, it runs as fast today as it did 15 years ago. But the Software and OS is that of the time period that it was originally created. But when bringing such a system that was connected to the internet back in the days of dial-up to modern internet connection while if you can connect it to the internet the internet speed is fast, the content that the system has to handle with flash and other content is beyond the capabilities of the hardware and so it either wont handle the content or if it does the performance would feel as if the computer is crippled.

For my online systems, I also perform rebuilds of them about once a year as for systems that are rebuilt fresh usually run far better than a system that has been running on the same build for 12 months with software ADDED and removed etc. This pretty much cleans the registry out of garbage and gets rid of any inefficiencies in the location of data on the HDD in which the hard drive isnt fragmented, but yet the data's placement is not as cleanly located as it could have been such as after a rebuild in which software added is more likely to be placed continuous on the platters vs as scattered as a system that has had lots of data added and removed and some data not being movable such as large game files etc. Also it sheds junk from services etc that may be orphans from software installs that are no longer installed etc in which CPU performance increases because the CPU is less burdened running on a cleaner build. as well as free memory between the old build and new build usually also shows more free memory available after clean rebuild.Quote from: BC_Programmer on December 09, 2014, 08:35:42 PM

No, the ole' geezers up there are before the Color Computer model came out. I've got at least one manual stashed away around here, but the ole' geezers are too well wrapped up and snug to pull them down and check for serial numbers. But I think they are '78 or 79'. Serial number would be the best way to look it up. I seem to remember I was in some sort of Trash80 online club some years ago and we used to offer up info on our respective machines, but I think that was when I had my Gateway tower running and that is also just sitting about, having been replaced with all these other guys surrounding me at this work station. And that Trash80 info, digital type, would be on an external HD now which I won't have time to access today.

Solve : Google Fiber in Kansas City.?

Answer» What follows is a recent report critical of Google Fiber.
Quote
Google Fiber in Kansas City apartments
Although Google Fiber offers free Internet service (in exchange for a $300, one-time INSTALLATION fee), it hasn’t DONE much to expand Internet access in Kansas City. A big part of the reason is that many poor people live in apartments and few landlords in poor areas have signed up for service. The green dots show apartments with Google Fiber in Kansas City. The darker areas have higher poverty rates. The red line is Troost Avenue, the HISTORICAL boundary in racially segregated Kansas City.

Check the link and see a map.
Also see this:
Quote
Google's next two markets – Provo, Utah and Austin, Texas – are also in the middle of the country, and Kansas City assistant city manager Rick Usher says that's not a coincidence.
"If you graph regulatory requirements, coast to coast, it's like a jump rope – really high on the coasts and lower in the middle," he said.
Portland, though, has been similarly accommodating, crafting a custom "broadband franchise" for Google, approving a LEASE agreement for the company's "fiber huts" – the company wants to put more than a dozen equipment sheds around town – and rewriting city rules so Google can put 200 small "utility CABINETS" along streets around Portland.
(Somebody explain that please.)
http://www.oregonlive.com/silicon-forest/index.ssf/2014/12/google_fiber_why_kansas_city.html

Yeah, there is also a lot of positive PR about Google fiber.
- From Google, of course.
Maybe the reason poorer people are not taking up Google fibre is because they have more essential things to spend their money on rather than $300 to have the service installed. How about look at what people paying for the ultra fast Google fibre connections are saying.

Solve : Earthquake Stuff?

Answer»

I'll purposely make that a really open sort of topic title so you folks in places that also get shook up from time-to-time can stick in news from your area.

Me, I'm in Japan and have been for a few decades and I am sure you folks know what happened to us on March 11th, 2011.

So I have been sort of keeping a closer eye on our jishin activity (jishin = earthquake) and this morning we had a CUTE one.

5.1 magnitude just off the coast of extreme western Fukui Prefecture and -- get this -- 360km deep. Yep, that's 3 digits there!

And it registered on our little sensors over on the other side of Japan in Fukushima Prefecture and Ibaraki Prefecture.

I just did a bit of research and that area of Fukui doesn't seem to have had such a deep quake in a very long time, if EVER. Note "a bit" of research. No time right now for more.

But that is a weird shake for us and that's saying something, because we get all kinds of weird shakes in this area of the world.A number of earthquake web sires are available.
Japan:
http://blogs.wsj.com/japanrealtime/tag/earthquake/
USA:
http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/map/
Europe:
http://www.emsc-csem.org/#2
Asia:
http://earthquaketrack.com/v/asia/recent
Worldwide:
http://newsblogged.com/

Or just Google 'Earthquake News'I'm sorry, I didn't mean to imply I needed links to sites to get information -- I have all sorts of links. I was just posting some recent news on the sunject. Have I erred in some way? Such sorts of topics aren't allowed?Nothings wrong. Say what you want. It is off topic.
I SELDOM feel earthquakes. I live in California.
I asked my wife if we should move to Nebraska. She said no because they have tornadoes there.
Well, your wife is right about a tornado being a very unkind Mother Nature event. I lived in Oklahoma back in the mid-70s and had the unfortunate experience of driving into Wichita Falls right after they had a really nasty tornado hit.

We used to drive into TEXAS to get a better beer to take back to Ft Sill where we were stationed. Don't know about now, but used to be the beer in Oklahoma was so weak. I think it was the same on the post/fort to conform to local laws, but was a long time ago and now I'm wondering about that.

Anyway, I've seen what a twister can do and it ain't nice.

Of course, earthquakes aren't so nice either, some of the times. We have them so MUCH over here, especially since March 11th, 2011, that it's gotten to where I can pretty much judge the rough location by the feel of the shake. Like that one we had recently that was very bad in Nagano Prefecture -- that one I knew right away was not in one of the usual areas and that it was a bad one. And it sure was a bad one. But I don't think we've had any deaths from it, if nobody has died of injuries. But given how bad it was it really is amazing Mother Nature didn't claim any of us poor humans when She pulled that stunt on us.

Of course, if Mother Nature has Internet access and is reading this post I apologize to Her and will do/give/observe proper reflection on my bad manners as shown in my choice of vocabulary in this post, as in calling Her events stunts. What a crude human I am.

Solve : Celsius to Fahrenheit?

Answer»

Hi everyone I would like to know how to convert Celsius to Fahrenheit in a batch file and vice vers I hope that you can help me thanksWhy do you want to use a batch file? Batch arithmetic can only use whole numbers (integers) so your conversions would not be very accurate. Anyhow, if you know the arithmetic needed, which is obvious when you think about it (Fahrenheit has 180 degrees from freezing point of water to boiling, and starts at 32, while Celsius has 100 degrees and starts at 0), you can use the SET /A COMMAND which is documented in MANY places, including at the prompt by typing SET /?.
thanks I will try that...

Yup! it worked out great thanks for the help!
TEMPERATURE converter scripts are found everywhere. So there is no real advantage of doing it in batch. The OP did not say why he NEEDS it in batch.
Here is one in Python:
http://www.pythonforbeginners.com/code-snippets-source-code/python-code-celsius-and-fahrenheit-converter
The above is also a nice short introduction to Python. There is something weird about this thread.

well i came across this lesson in my C++ tutorial ( C++ for dummies 5th edition )

Code: [Select]#include<iostream>

using namespace std;

INT main()

{

float fahrenheit, celsius;

cout << "Enter the temperature in Celsius : ";

cin >> celsius;

fahrenheit = (celsius * 9.0) / 5.0 + 32;

cout << "The temperature in Celsius : " << celsius << endl;

cout << "The temperature in Fahrenheit : " << fahrenheit << endl;

return 0;

}

but this would be need to be compiled befor it is of any useOr use this:
http://immigrationroad.com/life-in-us/easy-card-reference/Fahrenheit-to-Celsius-Conversion-Table.pdf
Just write a batch file to show the file to the user and he can do the conversion himself using his visual abilities.

Solve : Use odd names for better secujrity.?

Answer»

Some companies are now asking you to answer a list of questions to help identify you in case you lose your password. But that can weaken, not improve your security. Do you need to let your bank to now the name of your high school sweetheart? The name of your favorite pet? The name of your favorite TEACHER?
If they will not let your op out of the insane questionnaire, give them names NOBODY could ever guess. Like:
Code: [Select]unique Welsh baby names
Emlyn (boy)
Anwen (girl)
Guinevere (girl)
Gareth (boy)
Rhys (boy)
Rhian (girl)
Gwendolyn (girl)
Glynn (boy)
Merlyn (boy)
Bronwyn (girl)
... if you are not Welsh! Or, if you are not Greek:
Code: [Select]unique Greek baby names
Alec (boy)
Angel (girl)
Kira (girl)
Dorian (boy)
Titus (boy)
Zoey (girl)
Iris (girl)
Xander (boy)
Phoenix (boy)
Georgia (girl)
Or just make your own. And write it down somewhere. Like on the bottom of your keyboard. The possibility of somebody breaking into you house and fining the list is very small compared to a 'brute force' attack for a hostile web site.

Also, search the web for 'unique baby names' and find lots more. But never ever give out revealing information about your private life.
All the online security reset info, I always use an answer that is no wheres near any relation to the question such as Mothers Maiden Name = TheyKilledKenny or something totally RANDOM... but yes its a good idea to write it down somewheres.

On that note I created an alias online game account and lost my security reset info, and only knew the e-mail address that was registered to this online game. I am able to click to receive a password reset e-mail, but without the info of this alias, I forever lost access to this online game. The worst thing with this is that I could have sworn that i wrote the info down as well as created a screenshot saved with the alias info, and yet I havent located the screenshot or the paper that it was written on. So although the game is free to play and I have control over the e-mail account to send/receive e-mail that isn't good enough to prove ownership of the account. good way, thanks for sharing The problem with screen shots is you forget where you put them. And you forget the name.

Myself, I copy and paste password related details into a text file. The text file can be later FOUND in a search. You can add some random comments to the text file to make it hard for a spy to realize there is a password in the file. If you can recall any of the random comments you made, you can search for all files with a word. Then you just have to look through maybe a dozen small text files that have the word.

Solve : Telephone twist !!!?

Answer»

Does anybody KNOW at what bitrate our voice is transmitted when we talk over the telephone?
If anybody know please help me....Sorry I did not see this earlier.
The human voice transmits sound caustically. The base frequency of a male voice is from 90 to 120 cps. But it is an analog structure. Some artifacts EXTEND above 10,000 cps. The level is normally about 60 decibels above the threshold of hearing in normal conditions.

(NOTRE the term Hertz is used now instead of CPS.)

To transmit the vice digitally, some kind of analog to digital converter is used. Many local telephone companies still used analog for all local telephone calls. For long distance digital transmission must be used. The has been the case fort a number of years now.
A common practice is to sample the voice using a rate of about 8000 cps which can reproduce sounds to about 4000 Hertz. After digital conversion it might bew transmitted at a rate of 64,000 bps. (Bits Per Second.)
For the exact values, ask a telephone engineer.
Sorry I can not find a specific reference that gives the exact answer. Some local Telcos may use different bit rates to meet needs is some areas.
This deference may help. Sort of.
http://www.tieline.com/Transports/POTSPSTN
Quote

Tieline POTS solutions provide 15kHz FM quality audio to broadcasters for just the cost of a regular phone call. In FACT, it sounds so good your listeners will find it difficult to tell the difference between POTS and either IP or ISDN connections!
That, of course, is an appeal for broadcasters to use high performance CODEC from that company. But for plain voice communication that would pot be needed.
My guess is they would have to use about 256,000 bits per second.

BTW: Do not confuse Bits Per Second and Hertz.
Not the same thing.
Hertz is Cycles Per Second.

Solve : Embedded Microcontroller devices inside the PC.?

Answer»

This post is a very brad consideration of Embedded Systems/8051 Micro controller and similar devices.
Please bear with me.
Introduction:
Quote

The Intel 8051 micro controller is one of the most popular general purpose micro controllers in use today. The success of the Intel 8051 spawned a number of CLONES which are collectively referred to as the MCS-51 family of microcontrollers, which includes chips from vendors such as Atmel, Philips, Infineon, and Texas Instruments.

Quote
Typical applications
8051 chips are used in a wide variety of control systems, telecom applications, robotics as well as in the automotive industry. By some estimations, 8051 family chips make up over 50% of the embedded chip market.
Relevance to PC USERS:
So what relevance does this have on our present day personal computer experience? More that one might guess. For one, such devices are used to mass-produce modern computer COMPONENTS. Furthermore, some parts of a modern desktop, laptop or table will contain a micro controller in addition to the main CPU of the device.
Such is needed to manage memory, refresh the display or connect to Wi-Fi. The keyboard has a micro controller. So does your mouse.

Recently attention was drawn to the USB controllers used in one particular brand of USB thumb drive. It was hard to understand that a simple device could hide a virus in such a way the most AV programs could not find it. One reason is that the details of the micro-controller used are not published. Therefore an AV program does not know how to read the hidden information.

But the PROBLEM, if it is real, would not be limited to just USB devices. MCUsa are in printers, modems, routers and microwave overs.

Each manufacturer of a micro controller can have there own set of codes use to hide accede to the programmable memory area. The are dozens of different manufacturers and each can have several variations on designs.

A few companies are:
(Major semiconductor firms Sales rank 2011 )
Intel Corporation
Samsung Electronics
Texas Instruments
Toshiba Semiconductor
Renesas Electronics
Qualcomm
STMicroelectronics
Hynix
Micron Technology
Broadcom
AMD
Infineon Technologies

Of course the list goes on and on. The above is just the big ones. Theyall have some kind of controllers in the product line.

For example, AMD makes a micro controller the uses the same code as the x86 family of CPUs.
Gizmo board tiny AMD powered x86 MCU. Video
Yes, the AMD board is a real overkill for most applications. Where low-power and low speed are needed a micro controller can be the size of a girl's fingernail.

So what is the point of this? There was a general concept that all electronics devices other that TM and the CPU were permanent t non-programmable circuits. It was thought by many that software could only change RAM and and hard drive data. Not true. Most of the micro controllers in use today can be re programed by software alone. If it has have the codes.
It has been suggested that manufacturers should use heavy encryption to make it very hard for even professional hackers to get into the controllers without prior knowledge of the codes.

However, many believe this is a false alarm. Many are confident that the present AV programs are good enough and it is not likely any group of hackers will make a huge effort to learn how to program controllers to support malware.
Do you have any knowledge of how to program micro controllers?
If so, what is possible? What is likely?

I store nothing in the so called "cloud"...
Why? Are you AFRAID of clouds? Did ONE frighten you as a child?
No...I use Google Drive to access business docs among multiple computers and devices.I've used Google Drive quite a lot in the past for documents however I've started using Microsoft One Drive nowadays so that I can take written notes on my tablet using One Note and then have them SYNC to my other devices.

However, for most of my files I store them on my own home server (which I can also access remotely) which gets backed up offsite and I store most of my code on either Github or Bitbucket.I use ADRIVE (adrive.com).

Solve : Best software??

Answer»

What software would you never be able to live without?

By this, I mean things you use every day.
I've always had an interest in different software programs and lately I've felt like I reached the end of what I know. There is a novelty to finding new programs and trying them out; so, I want to hear what y'all are using all the time.

Mine are Notepad++, Chrome, GIMP, Defraggler (runs automatically for me), 7Zip, VLC, UltraCopier, Pidgin, LibreOffice.

-ZI will make 2 lists, one with every day and others I cant live without which may not be used daily but used quite frequently.

Used Daily List:

Firefox for web surfing

Thunderbird for having all e-mail accessible in 1 LOCATION with the feel of outlook. http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/

Adobe Flash Plugin for videos, music, and some games

iTunes - music

Can't Live without List:

JitBit Macro Recorder PRO - ( $69 ) I am able to automate by recording once redundant keyboard and mouse routines fast and compile them as EXE's to place on to other systems to farm info off the web etc more info here: http://www.jitbit.com/macro-recorder/

GetDataBack (All Versions) - ( $79 ) Bought this a few years back and works very well for getting data recovered from damaged hard drives that still spin up. https://www.runtime.org/data-recovery-software.htm

FRAPS - ($37) I use this to record online multiplayer game events as well as create how to videos without having to spend a fortune ( $300 ) on Camtasia. Prior to fraps I was using the free CamStudio, but CamStudio has aged without hardware support for modern audio hardware and so while it still may work for recording your display as you see it, it errors out on new audio hardware. I used this years ago before fraps and while it was ok for how to videos, gaming info captures were grainy and sometime laggy as for it was encoding on the fly, whereas fraps works best because its a direct dump to hard drive so you dont lose quality of the captured content. Fraps was only like $40 compared to $300 Camtasia Studio in which I didnt need all the editing features etc. http://www.fraps.com/

VirtualDub - ( FREE ) Processes my large video captures from FRAPS and encodes them into much smaller AVI files without any significant loss of image quality. I can take a 20 minute gaming event that is 10GB in size and squeeze it down to a 500MB AVI video file that has no drastic loss in quality. I then delete the 10GB bloated fraps file to free the HDD up for the next game capture. http://www.virtualdub.org/

Notepad++ - ( FREE ) Prior to this I was using Crimson Editor also another free feature rich & color schemed editor supporting many launguage formats for manual coding outside of a normal IDE. Here is link for Crimson Editor which I have used for years prior to Notepad++ http://www.crimsoneditor.com/

HTTrack - ( Free ) I dont use this so much anymore, but I use to use this to gather information off the web to take around with me offline. It allowed me to copy a websites contents to a laptop so that when I went on the road and did not have internet, I could still reference this information from the state it was in when last captured for offline use. This was important when I was buying and selling collectables and needed to know the current market value for millions of different items. I was able to look at what someone had to offer and instead of going with gut instinct on what I believe its worth over what they are asking for it, I'd walk to a corner and fire up my laptop and look up the info, and the info is as good as last captured before leaving for the collectable show, and so I can see if the market is good, if the price went up or down in a certain period of time, and know what its really worth vs taking a gut instict chance on it. *This tool at my side for market info made me LOTS of money and saved me from buying items that I thought were worth more, but actually worth the same or less than asking price. But I haven't used this in a few years because I dont have the time anymore to drive around to auctions and shows to look around for an item to buy and make a good margin on resale of. Here is the link: http://www.httrack.com/

Web Thumbnailer - ( FREE ) - This tool was useful for capturing a digital microfilm like image of websites that did not copy for offline use with HTTrack because they had dynamic content and flash etc. This tool allowed me to logon to sites that I paid a subscription for access to the information, and then take a screenshot that was of the entire page, not just the viewing area on a 19" display, but if the page was one that you needed to scroll up or down on a list, it captured the entire page in a long stretched JPG image. I then was able to open the JPG file and then zoom in and scroll up or down on the image file to view the pricing information that was current as of the capture. * One NOTE I'd like to state about this free program is that while it works 99.9% of the time, it sometimes is buggy. Also there is a limit to how many URL lines you can place into the list. I think the limit was 256 lines ( urls ) Here is the link: http://www.priyatna.org/webthumbnailer.php

RAMDisk - ( Free & Paid Versions ) - This tool allows you to allocate a portion of your otherwise unneeded extra system RAM to act as a Hard Drive, however the data in the RAM is subject to loss on power failure or shutdown, so you have to be careful with what you place onto this space. Its mainly used to load information from a SSD or HDD to RAM in this allocated space that acts as a drive, and the data then that is on this RAM Drive is able to read/write super fast because its ready in RAM direct for the CPU when called. When done with use, the changes are then written back to the SSD or HDD before shutdown if configured correctly. The benefits to this for the free version for non-commercial use is if you have something that can fit within 4GB of RAM space that you want to load lightning fast or something that otherwise would take a while and over work a hard drive such as hundreds of thousands of read/write instructions. I have used this with a script that updated a MySQL database which prior to use of this on a 500GB SATA II 7200rpm HDD it would take about 5 minutes to complete, and on a RAMDisk drive it would complete in 38 seconds with 4GB or DDR2-800Mhz with 1.5GB RAMdisk space leaving 2.5GB free for the OS and applications to run, and while this is happening for 38 seconds the hard drive is just idle letting the RAM hammer it out with the CPU until complete. Then when complete, I write the final result back to HDD in less than 10 seconds.
http://memory.dataram.com/products-and-services/software/ramdisk (* Some day I hope to have a system with 32GB or more of RAM to then buy the version that allows for a larger RAMdisk and place games onto the RAM to run direct for maximum gaming performance for large games that have large game files that are constantly read in for the game to operate such as World of Warcraft.)

Bloodshed Dev C++ - ( FREE ) I have been using this a lot for quick C++ programs. So figured I'd share it. http://www.bloodshed.net/devcpp.html

MySQL - ( FREE ) - I use this with about 99.9% of all my databases unless a client requests them to be with other than MySQL. http://www.mysql.com/

ActivePerl Community Edition - ( FREE ) - Primary IDE for writing & executing local Perl scripts. http://www.activestate.com/activeperl

WAMP - ( FREE ) - For coding up a site and testing it all web server, database, and HTML etc on same system. Then later the site and code move on to a secure server vs a wide open non secure sandbox which is what this is. * Do not ever use this to run a real website hosted for others to access unless you want to be hacked very quickly! http://www.wampserver.com/en/

DoPDF7 - ( FREE ) Ability to print to PDF to not waste paper and save printed important stuff as PDF's. *The other day I went to install this on my wifes computer and they have version 8 out now. Version 8 wanted registration info while Version 7 did nit require this and ran clean without registration to function. I had version 7 on my external drive and removed version 8 and installed version 7 and she was then able to create PDF's as well without having to register to a spam server. If you plan on using this, you might want to try to find version 7 vs using the current version 8 if you are like me and dont want to be forced to register it to use it! http://www.dopdf.com/

MAP EDIT - ( Trial & Paid ) - I was introduced to this tool back in college about 12 years or so ago. It came bundled on a CD in the back of my HTML book. I had a lot of fun with this tool because it allowed me to make interactive HTML images with hyperlinks to X,Y areas of images, and so I was able to make an interface image in say MSPaint and then call this JPG image in the webpage, and with this software reference to the interface image within the HTML and select boxes etc for the area of the image that I wanted people to be able to click on HOME and get to HOME and click on ABOUT and get to the ABOUT page etc, but most importantly, it allowed me to make some HTML games that used nothing more than HTML. No Java Script, etc. And basically based on their clicks they followed a Hyperlink Tree so I was able to make games similar to Zork ( although with a GUI vs just text ) that were in HTML and you could click on arrows to move left right and forward and backwards. The game was basically trying to get from the beginning to the end and there were hints and wrong turns that would lead to your death, but played enough times you then knew what to do and what not to do and eventually beat the game. The one feature the college professor really liked was that a light switch when flipped on in the darkened the room you were in because it loaded up a different page with a JPG for that room, the room was now lit up and you then could see what there was in the room to interact with, in which there was a piece of paper on a desk and when clicked on it would load up this paper that was scanned with my scanner to look real, and then you could click to go back to the room and move on etc. I liked this tool so much that I bought a license of it. I still use it on occasion, but its been almost a years since I used it for making a FileMaker Pro 5.5 interface for accessing different databases through a HTML webpage by drawing up a interface with MSPaint and some other tools and then making a simple HTML page to load the interface center screen and then hyperlink the X,Y locations of the interface to what Database was to be opened. http://www.boutell.com/mapedit/

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lastly, I keep an external HDD with hundreds of open source as well as paid for program on, and from time to time I go back to this drive to add others that I find as well as install them as needed.

The software I use every day would be:

  • Windows 8 Pro at home, Windows 7 Pro at work
  • Debian 7 Linux on most of my servers (Couple of oddball CentOS/Ubuntu boxes as well)
  • FreeBSD (Almost all the servers I deal with at work)
  • Google Chrome
  • SublimeText (My text editor of choice)
  • Quassel (IRC Client)
  • Mozilla Thunderbird (Mail Client)
  • mRemoteNG (SSH client albeit more of a wrapper around PuTTY)
  • Jetbrains IDEs (I use PHPStorm, PyCharm and IntelliJ IDEA when I am not just using SublimeText)
  • Divvy (I use two 1440p monitors so need this to be able to snap windows to quarters of a screen, half a screen is often too much)
  • F.Lux (I generally work at night so this really helps my eyes)
  • Git
Other stuff I use regularly:
  • Fiddler HTTP Debugging Proxy (Very useful for my job which involves a lot of inspecting HTTP requests to Analytics tools)
  • Microsoft Office (Most of what I do is in either Google Drive or LaTeX but there are times I still need full MS Office)
  • TeXMaker (Nice IDE for writing LaTeX)
  • VLC
  • WinSCP
Come to think of it, I'm pretty surprised I use that many programs, and there's likely more I've forgotten about! The best software, in terms of economic impact, wide-spread applications and advance of electronic technology is:
Linux in all its forms.
You don't even have to have it to benefit from it.
It does these things and more:
  • Found in most servers worldwide.
  • Found is most routers and switches.
  • Found in automation used in factories.
  • Found in burglar alarms.
  • Found in medical equipment.
  • Found in home appliances.
  • And of course in most smartphones.
The list goes on, but I will stop with this note. Linux, along with other Open-Source software has played the key role in keeping costs down and providing a platform for advancement of software development.

Well Geek-9pm (long time no see, by the way!), I am a long time user and lover of Linux as well. What programs do you tend to operate on Linux?
Lately I've been sticking to Fedora (I'm displeased with the Ubuntu developments of the last two years). I tend to like most of it's default programs for text editing and compressing functions. But, I continue to use Chrome, GIMP, VLC, Pidgin, and LibreOffice on it. In addition, WINE and PlayOnLinux are essential to me also.
Windows continues to be my main OS for various reasons.

DaveLembke and camerongray, those were very detailed responses. I will be looking at many of the software programs you listed. Well, I use puppy Linux just because it boots quick from a CD. I use GPart when I have trouble with a drive partition.
My Smartphone has Android, which is derived show how from Linux. The routers I own might have Linux code , I don't know. The next automobile I buy might be Linux controlled. If I ever get a MRI, it might be using a variant of Linux. For daily use UltraEdit32, WinRAR, Xshell (like Putty but more usable), Speedfan, VLC Media Player. For occasional use a USB pen bootable via Grub4DOS with ISOs of Slax Linux, Gparted and Windows 7 Recovery Disk. Plus on my OpenSuse machine I run SABnzbd and on my NAS I run Transmission.
Stuff I need for work:

Visual Studio 2013 (Not that specific version, but hey, MSDN Ultimate subscription would be wasted if I used Express, right?)
pgAdmin (we use Postgres)
Theos Workstation (for connecting to the THEOS Server terminal. Not useful otherwise.)
Outlook 2013. I use Outlook for my work E-mail, and thunderbird has the rest. I could add them all to thunderbird but my work E-mail Server is on our VPN which I might not always connect to which causes thunderbird to choke and complain
TortoiseSVN. Our Source repository is on our VPN and uses SVN. Some might wonder why not git or some other source control. WEll this is only the source control for the Windows programs. the older THEOS-based programs literally have zero source control except a few backups of the source code. SVN is a huge step up in that context. (Also, SVN is easier to centralize, whereas git is designed to be distributed).
NSIS For creating installers.
Netbeans/IntelliJ/Eclipse We haven't really found a good IDE to use for our one Java Program which is used as an adapter to Jasper Reports. Netbeans is entirely source control unfriendly and requires projects be "exported"; IntelliJ would work except the built .jar file never works properly. Eclipse I know works with source control at the project level so that was going to be the next thing to try the next time we get annoyed by me being the only person who can easily build the Java program even when others have changed it. of course this isn't necessary but any IDE is better than futzing about with javac.
VMWare has been invaluable for testing. Some problems only manifest on specific machines, or sometimes my development machine has a different program setting somewhere that prevents it. With a VM I can clean install all our software and test it, as well as mess around with the configuration of things like Java which I would rather not do on my main system (which has other applications using Java).

That's the stuff I Need for work. I also use other programs for it but could go without them:

Resharper Is an Add-in for Visual Studio. It improves some built in options and adds others such as code inspections and added static analysis tools. eg it will highlight a comparison being used somewhere and indicate that the expression will always be true, or the expression will always be false at that point in the code, which can help remove redundant segments. I get a free personal license for this so I see no good reason not to use it. (Except on my laptop, where I've uninstalled it since it makes the system impossible to use performance wise).
VisualSVN is another add-on which integrates Visual Studio with Tortoise SVN. Otherwise dealing with source control means opening Windows Explorer and using context menus to commit/update/add stuff. It's also easy to forget stuff. The add-in shows whether stuff is up to date, has changed, or is conflicted right in the project explorer.
Editpad Pro Text Editor. Aside from text editing I also use it oddly enough as my main FTP Client. It allows editing and saving items directly to an FTP/webhost which is useful. It puts teh FTP panel from notepad++ to shame for certain.
Fences is useful as well. I don't see my desktop very often but when I do at least the shortcuts are nicely organized.

I forgot the one thing I use on any *nix device - pico/nano, so handy with tty logins
To me the most needed are Skype and FireFox, without the rest I can do, but these 2 buddies are vitalI can't think of any software I couldn't do without. The reason for that is that there are so many alternatives available.

I use Win 7 for work, Win 7 & Win 8 at home but I could use Win XP or one of the many Linux distros if need be. I need a BROWSER and I use FireFox but I could use Chrome, Opera, IE, etc... I use Office 2013 but there are many alternatives to that as well. Pretty much any software program you can think of, there are alternatives to it that make it so it's not so indispensable.

I like having choices.Judging by the amount of time I spend on the internet, my most definite pick is chrome.

Solve : Inserting html !!!?

Answer»

I want to know how can I include html code in my posts in this forum. For example computer_commando in all his posts include a danasoft.com html image

Plz help me soon...You can't include HTML code, you use the BBCode tags that are ACCESSIBLE through the BUTTONS in the top of the create post window to insert things such as images, LINKS and to do special formatting.

And going by your other thread, you are certainly not allowed to spam this forum by attempting to insert Javascript into your posts, no web developer in their RIGHT mind would allow this!
