Solve : Transfomers 2007 micheal bay? |
Answer» This film is by far the best film that i have seen in the last 2 years from beginning to end it has some the best speacil effects i have seen ............ it is the best dam film ever released this year , i urge you to go see it it is amazing........ Take my word for it , it made me jump of m,y seat and scream COME YOU ROBOTS KCIK SOME *censored*!!!! AND i dont do that 2 often last time i did that was when blade was released and i smashed my phone lol ......... bu this film is a must!!!! What I've Done? That's like Linkin Park's only good song in their new album. A shame, really....well usually when , theres a massive quote at the end saying there going to stay on earth blah blah blah , it means expect more trouble aka a sequel i think it would be good if that made a prequal like only show there planet and how that megatron betrayed them and that .... and linkin parks new album is top notch its not as good as hybrid theory or meteroa , but its still *censored* good , the songs impact the the amercain way of life and how its become croup over the last few years and linkin park do a great job in explainning that in there lyrics as it reached me with such power and emotion........... The movie is just to good to be true! I love it. I can't wait to get on Blue ray!! Jonas Well, I'll add my 2 cents worth here too... I LOVED the movie!!! It was my favorite of all time! I thought the special effects were amazing on Spidey 3.... after I saw Transformers it just blew Spidey out of the water! It was awesome!!! Right after I saw the movie I went to Walmart and bought the SOUNDTRACK. I love Linkin Park's song! I'm not a huge fan of theirs but I do like that song. That's almost the only cd I ever listen to anymore and I've had it for close to 3 weeks now. Great movie!!!I just GOTTA comment here!!! My oldest daughter is in this movie. She is in the scene where a few people are running away from a green (?) cloud. This was before she got her SAG card so she isn't in the credits. As an aside: She will be in the new reality series, On the Lot. She is in the short film about back seat driving and is the nun on the back of a tandum bicycle. Not a SAG film or she would have asked for stunt pay! LOL Seems a driver took some liberties with his driving in front of the bike!! Oh, her screen name is Jenese Mari. Or Jenese English. When she got her SAG she was Jenese Mari, but I am thinking I am remembering she switched to her last name. Let me know if you see her!! She has entirely too much fun! (Not what you are thinking, the woman lives with God)Quote from: JannE on July 30, 2007, 08:40:18 AM (Not what you are thinking, the woman lives with God)LOL Finally got around to seeing this as well and it was a great show (4 stars). However, not a show for young kids. |

Solve : Could be joining the army !!! :)? |
Answer» Hey everyone No way, days and nights on a bleak moor when the rain is persisting down, the fog is fogging and the cold is bitter, or sweating it out in some Arabian desert. You'd be better to stay in MK.Navy? What about Air Force! Gotta love the Blackbird. Well , i hate flying , i dont MIND parcel flying as in the army ...... i know the air force say they branch out on other jobs , but i have a feeling , you eay sleep and drink planes there Quote from: Richenstony on August 05, 2007, 01:58:12 AM hahaha man o man , the navy , nah im sticking with the army ........ lol .... as for MK so long !!! When you're carrying a pack as big as a house in Kosovo or clearing sand from every bodily orifice in someone else's desert or chasing Osama Bin L across the Afghan plains or up the Kyber you're gonna think of what you posted and regret every word. But good luck anyway - you sound like you're gonna need it. If I join the army when I'm older, I could be stationed on the Orbital Defense Station orbiting Earth Quote from: Carbon Dudeoxide on August 05, 2007, 04:59:14 AM If I join the army when I'm older, I could be stationed on the Orbital Defense Station orbiting Earth The way things are progressing you're more likely to be on latrine duty in Baghdad or Teheran. HAHA , , i thnk thats a little to high , mine spotter!! You are right about it giving you discipline and a good record.... But then it's also dangerous.Definitely not my thing, but you've got my support if you decide to go through with it. All of my friends who joined the army ended up getting turned against the government because they hated it so much. But the UK army might be different. And you don't have Bush to worry about. Heh.Quote from: Richenstony on August 04, 2007, 10:59:07 PM
HR Interviewer: "So tell me Tony, what IT relevant knowledge did you gain in the army?" Tony: "I can pull a Sherman tank apart and re-assemble it in 30 minutes under intense incoming." HR Interviewer: "Not much use for that in IT Tony, anything else you can do?" Tony: "I was the best in the battalion at laying down a 75mm howitzer." SORRY to seem so negative Tony but I just think that a 4-year stint in the armed forces will be a waste of time for you and will do nothing to advance your chances of a job in IT, the army is there to train personnel in the gentle arts of killing not to prepare them for getting the job of their dreams on return to civvy street. The 4-years, or at least part of it, would be best spent on gaining a formal education, if not a degree at least some recognised educational achievement. Then the interview could go... HR Interviewer: "Tell me Tony, what IT relevant knowledge do you have?" Tony: "I have completed papers 1, 2 and 3 of a fulltime course in computer science at Milton Keynes Technical College but now need to have an income which will allow me to continue to study on a part-time basis." So you now present yourself as an achiever with some relevant knowledge who wishes to continue to expand his knowledge. My very best to you, I hope that, in the long term, you are happy with the decision you make. Best wishes if you decide to join and I hope it will give you all you're looking for. |

Solve : Land Rover experts needed? |
Answer» OK, so I'm back, and so on. Mate, are you wanting to learn how to drive in a Landrover?!I was. I'm not so sure now though. I think I'll have to TALK it over again with the guy who suggested it to me originally. I just want something a bit different, you know? I still have around 9 months before I can even think about getting a car anyway. Quote from: Fed on August 24, 2007, 02:01:55 PM Mate, unless you live in a remote area without roads then I suggest you forget the landrover idea all together.Nope, on the outskirts of a city. When all said and done though, they are pretty nice cars, and they are majorly different from most people's first cars.Yea theres a few things that probabily will hold you back. For starters having a Land Rover as a first car, for a young driver is gonna push your insurence through the roof. Second I wouldnt recommend learning to drive in a Land Rover as if you do learn to drive in one and then actually get a smaller car, for example a 1.1 its a massive jump. I honestly think youll be best learning on something like a Corsa, thats what my mates learn in. I however use our HONDA Civic. ChrisInsurance was going to be one of the last things I considered because it seems more complicated. The fact that there was no road tax was a plus though, as was the fact that the car itself can be pretty inexpensive. I'll have a chat with the guy who recommended it anyway, and probably come back and have changed my mind again. |

Solve : Scientist - " We have broken the speed of light!"? |
Answer» 'We have broken speed of light' By Nic Fleming, Science Correspondent Last Updated: 12:01am BST 16/08/2007 A pair of German physicists claim to have broken the speed of light - an achievement that would undermine our ENTIRE understanding of space and time. According to Einstein's special theory of relativity, it would require an infinite amount of energy to propel an object at more than 186,000 miles per second. However, Dr Gunter Nimtz and Dr Alfons Stahlhofen, of the University of Koblenz, say they may have breached a key tenet of that theory. advertisement The pair say they have conducted an experiment in which microwave photons - energetic packets of light - travelled "instantaneously" between a pair of prisms that had been moved up to 3ft apart. Being able to travel faster than the speed of light would lead to a wide variety of bizarre consequences. For instance, an astronaut moving faster than it would theoretically arrive at a destination before leaving. The scientists were investigating a phenomenon called quantum tunnelling, which allows sub-atomic particles to break apparently unbreakable laws. Dr Nimtz told New Scientist magazine: "For the time being, this is the only violation of special relativity that I know of." http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/main.jhtml?xml=/earth/2007/08/16/scispeed116.xmlI'll believe it when I see it. Lol, cool.....A nanometer closer to Slipstream Space (Halo) or WARP (Star Trek) or EVEN Ludicrous Speed (Spaceballs)Yeah.... Quote For instance, an astronaut moving faster than it would theoretically arrive at a destination before leaving. Ummm... I can't buy this. Assume a destination 120 million light years away. Thats the distance light would travel in 120 million years. Even at speeds faster than light, I don't think we would get there any time soon. It's this whole complex space and time relativity thing I don't know. I remeber watching a movie when a guy goes to the moon the speed of light and he ended up in the past and when we got back to Earth, he watched his 10 year old son being born or something.Wow! A ten year old being born? Bwahaha! Then you could only travel back in time is that the case ? Seems logical to me since the future hasn't HAPPENED yet. So now I can go back in time, fly, and be invisible! Nice!Quote from: Comp Guy on August 17, 2007, 08:05:36 PM So now I can go back in time, fly, and be invisible! Nice! WOW! Solve : Is $2000 too much?? |
Answer» Currently, I am 11 and almost 12. My birthday is coming up in May so I picked out some things on the Apple Store app and adding then to my birthday list. I don't want to go to OVERBOARD but I have been wanting a laptop for a while and decided to choose a Apple Mac OS X Yosemite. The only thing on my list is a 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display. Specs:I do have some side stuff which is [cheaper] than the Mac, like a carry AROUND briefcase or bag to hold it in and a small little rubber eclipse black case like a bumper case for iPhone but make for a Mac and AppleCare to put insurance on it. I didn't want to go to overkill on my list but I decided this will also count for my next birthday too. Adding this all together will round about $2,000-$2,500. What do you think and what do you thing I should downgrade or get rid of.I'm not really sure what your question is. Though you asked "What do you think". I think putting together such an exorbinant shopping list of gifts for your birthday is rather self-indulgent. of course, I don't know your parents. Maybe you have a diamond-studded swimming pool and solid gold Humvees, and a $2500 laptop is "Quaint". At one time buying a personal computer for $2000 was reasonable for individuals with prior experience and a need for better equipment. Have you any expedience with the Apple OS? What are the things you really like to do with a computer? I was thinking about offering some alternatives to the Mac Book. But I have to ADMIT, there is no real substitute. It is in a class by itself. Still, I think a young person should be exposed to others things that are available, to a reasonable degree. You might want to read this item: Best alternatives to the new Mac Book Quote If you’re looking elsewhere for a slim, fancy wedge of a laptop, you’ll find many choices. Ever since the arrival in 2008 of so-called Ultrabooks, exemplified by the first MacBook Air, we’ve been living in a golden age of laptops. These uber-portable PCs offer solid performance in impossibly slender frames weighing less than 3 pounds. Depending on the machine, prices are low, too—a consumer-friendly side effect of the STRUGGLING PC business. What the author is saying is that now is the time to think about looking around. Apple now has more competition than ever. You probably already know that the Apple OS wants to run only on an Apple. So if you want to go with some other, the Windows 8.1 would be the OS you would USE on any top performance laptop other than Apple. Now, in favor of the Mac Book. It can run either OS. You can have the Apple OS, or the latest Windows OS. There is no other retail machine that can do that. So that still makes it the top choice. If you want to spend that much money now. BTW: Windows 10 is coming with promises of better things. Like BC_Programmer said, unless your parents are wealthy, asking for a $2000 birthday gift is too much. Maybe your parents need to start teaching you about the value of money. You could ask to do chores around the house and then see how long it would take you to earn $2000. That may give you some perspective on how much money $2000 is. Ultimately though, only your parents can say if asking for a MBP for your birthday is too much. Why don't you try talking to them and asking if there is an amount they'd be willing to spend for your birthday, then see if there's some things you'd like to suggest around that amount? |

Solve : Biochip Implant May Kill.? |
Answer» This is off topic. Thais is about RFID chips placed under human skin. ...following Wisconsin and North Dakota, California issued Senate Bill 362 in 2007, which prohibits employers and others from forcing anyone to have a RFID device implanted under their skin. So some people in Congress do not like the idea. However, the medical arguments against the device are based on evidence, not hysterical. The FDA has strict rules about what you implant in human tissue. Aside from the political implications -- Is this really the next evolution in technology? Don't we already have enough ways to ID people? Would it hurt to have more? Please provide relevant links. Just throwing this out there - We already do this exact same thing to dogs and cats and I'm not aware of any problems with those injuring animals when they come too close to a magnetic source or whatever those tinfoil hat people claim. They are also passive RFID devices, the range is extremely short usually less than a metre. The News Editor position at CH is still open...only qualified applicants will be considered...Quote from: Geek-9pm on April 05, 2015, 04:37:53 PM However, the medical arguments against the device are based on evidence, not hysterical. No they aren't. Your sources here are hardly any more reputable than the sources you used to present a very similar topic already. -Infowars, for EXAMPLE, has claimed repeatedly that the Boston Bombing was a "false flag" attack; that the U.S government effectively perpetrated it. You can guess what other terrorist event they claim was perpetrated the same way. I won't even bother giving them the extra traffic; their "evidence" consists of people wearing back-packs. No, I'm not making that up. People wore backpacks near the finish line, therefore, government conspiracy. A bunch of idiot nutjobs whose inability to present even a basic, logically sound argument is apparently the only qualification they needed. -SHTF is a "Survivalist" website. These are websites created by individuals who believe the apocalypse is coming and who stockpile guns, ammo, and food to prepare for the coming "Doomsday". These individuals are more often than not also incapable of climbing stairs without having to catch their breath, so it is probably a good thing for their survival that their ludicrous scenario is not going to play out, since if it did I don't think "unable to climb stairs without breaking a sweat" would prevent their skull from being used as a soup bowl. Needless to say, their articles are generally WRITTEN with a rather strongly biased perspective and tend to ignore when their own sources are garbage. usually they just invent nonsense or spin real information to fabricate their own ridiculous plotline. -the "National Report" story looks credible, or, it would, if the National Report didn't also have articles such as "IRS set to target leprechauns next". Another big issue is that their source, "Wyoming Institute of technology" doesn't exist, and is a satire website. This should be fairly clear given that they are the source of the "studies" for National Report articles such as Solar panels drain the sun's energy as well as having the honourable distinction, as they show on their About page, of creating the first organic artificial nose for Michael Jackson as well as: Quote In December of 1999, WIT literally saved the world, after our computer science researchers managed to stop the Y2K virus from spreading globally. The Y2K virus would have caused airplanes to fall from the sky, the stock market to crash, cars to stop functioning, cell phones to randomly dial strangers, and more. WIT’s tireless work led to several WIT researchers being awarded a Nobel Peace Prize in 2000, and Presidential Medals of Freedom in both 2000 and 2001. In fact, all their pages have pretty obvious hints the entire site is satirical. Ranks right up there with the Onion...Quote from: camerongray on April 06, 2015, 08:41:10 AM Just throwing this out there - We already do this exact same thing to dogs and cats and I'm not aware of any problems with those injuring animals when they come too close to a magnetic source or whatever those tinfoil hat people claim. They are also passive RFID devices, the range is extremely short usually less than a metre.Yes, you got that right. Short range passive tags that are in people's pets. When the story first came out, some did claim it is part of a big-brother plan to track everybody and punish those who stray too far. Reportedly some German inventor tried to get patent of RFID that could kill somebody on command. I think the patent was denied, because the intention of the device was not justifiable. There are other ways to punish criminals,. And in most jurisdiction capital punishment limits how and where execution takes place. Exceptions are in Warfare and Military rule. Now could a device kill you by some freak accident? There are two real concerns. First the the case of allergic reaction of the body to a foreign object. The second is contamination from germs that might attach to the device while it was injected.the.. It was documented, but is not a real problem. Of greater concern is the amount of information about travel habits. One can imagine that upon arrival at a overseas airport, a check would be made as to your medical history. This information could also be used to track the movements of frequent flyers, presumably to see if t hey might be involved is subversive activities. Like you said, the mas media used this a a means to grab your attention. The sad thing is that it was broadcast by NBC here in the USA and, to o my knowledge, no retraction was made. Recently, last month, somebody picked up that NBC story and repeated the general content. See here: NBC Report Predicts RFID Chips To Be Widely Used In Humans By 2017 At the bottom of the page you will find the video clip of the 2008 NBC story. EDIT: NBC did not say it will kill you. Another site made the claim and linked to the NBC story to support the idea. RFID implanted Chip that Kills you if you disobey-NBC predicting RFID implants for all Americans by 2017 ? That headline makes it sound like NBC said that. Please look at the link above. It goes way way beyond d what NBC said. you are linking to and reading posts that are... sensational nonsense. The effort if just going through your links and showing why they are full of crap is a full-time job. Take the "Anonhq" article. Again- another conspiracy theory haven- this site also has articles talking about how Obama has been "proven" to be Kenyan, How 9/11 was a false flag, and how aliens are controlling the government and world religions in order to plan an invasion. (No, I am not making that up). My point? These sites are not reputable sources. Just read the article you linked. It uses the following segment of a bill that passed: Quote The SECRETARY shall establish a national medical device registry (in this subsection referred to as the 11 ‘registry’) to facilitate analysis of post-market safety and 12 outcomes data on each device that— ‘‘(A) is or has been used in or on a patient; and ‘‘(B) is— ‘‘(i) a class III device; or ‘‘(ii) a class II device that is implantable, 17 life-supporting, or life-sustaining.Fair enough- a national registry for medical devices for analyzing their safety for implantation and whether they perform life-sustaining functions. Seems reasonable to regulate the industry creating said devices, and we certainly wouldn't want to have microchip pacemakers being implanted that were cheap chinese knock-offs. But no. Apparently that passage "proves" that the intended use is to "serve as the ultimate form of surveillance and subjugation.". Oh, look- how convenient that their conclusion fits so neatly with the wildly atrophied worldview that they seem to have. Shame it is entirely unsupported by the oft-cited NBC video. Quote Like you said, the mas media used this a a means to grab your attention. The sad thing is that it was broadcast by NBC here in the USA and, to o my knowledge, no retraction was made.No "retraction" is necessary, because it was NOT broadcast by NBC; the video linked is a NBC broadcast from 2007, and it suggests that microchips might be used in the future to record a person's medical data in case of emergency. It does not suggest that it will be used to track travel habits or anything involving an overseas airport, most of it just babbles about existing implementations of things like fingerprint identification and iris scanning. The health concerns with allergic reactions and foreign objects are no different with any implant of this form than with already common devices such as pacemakers. |

Answer» RFID can refer to the tiny things that sound an alarm if somebody GOES out of the WallMart store without PAYING for a pair of socks. But a RFID could be used in many innovative ways. Below are quotations... Companies begin planting microchips under employees' skin 3/9/2015 - The technology has been around for some years now, but the use of RFID (radio-frequency identification) chips and other beneath-the-skin implants has only recently become more widespread. Recent news reports indicate that an RFID tracking chip capable of killing... Learn more: http://www.naturalnews.com/RFID.html#ixzz3W1uzP6W7 This is off topic. It is worth noting, "naturalnews" is a fairly well-known source of psuedo-scientific and downright false information, and is not a very trustworthy source of news. The "naturalnews" articles, when they have a source, typically veer quickly away from the presented facts and start to "speculate", using poorly structured logic to make unreasonable conclusions, usually proferring a concept derived from the dystopian perspective of many conspiracy theorists in almost all of these articles. 1. "Companies begin planting microchips under employees' skin" Compare this article to the "source" articles it presents and you'll see that the article is based on a lot of wanton speculation. It ignores that this particular application is demonstrably more convenient than what it replaces- security cards and avoids the problem of lost, stolen, or forgotten security cards. Instead, the article latches onto the conspiracy bandwagon, and it writes speculatively based on that for all but one paragraph. Likely related to the third articles "conclusions". 2. "RFID tracking armbands forced on all residents near California music festival" This claims a source in the LA times: Quote According to a recent report by the Los Angeles Times (LAT), the Coachella's use of RFID (radio-frequency identification) wristbands to track attendees has been extended beyond just ticket holders to residents living around the Empire Polo Field where the festival takes place, even though forcing these tracking chips on the public is against the law. They fail to link the source. However, other websites website covers the same thing, and use this LA times article as evidence. In particular, this quotation: Quote No one can so much as get within a mile of the Empire Polo Field, where Coachella is held, without wearing one. Local residents, whose homes surround the polo field, also have to wear one just to get to their houses, and Guitron said homeowners must also register their cars. The problem is that it is painted as being "forced"; I find this incredibly unlikely. In Areas that have a high-volume, annual event like this, the local HOA of that area typically includes cooperation with additional terms related to that event as a requirement, and those properties that are rented include additional terms in the contract that the tenant must also be in compliance with these terms. I wasn't able to find a PDF or other link to the contract on the applicable HOA website to confirm this, but it would explain why I could also find zero first-hand complaints by people living in the area, since those individuals would be 100% aware of their responsibilities as per the contract. The third article, titled "Implantable RFID chips capable of remotely killing non-compliant 'slaves' are here" is, of course, sensational. Their logic in the article is effectively: -RFID Chips can contain poison or cyanide, and be programmed to inject the individual when they receive a certain radio signal. -RFID chips are APPROVED by the FDA -Therefore, the Government is planning to use RFID chips to kill people who question them The last step is, well- a leap and not a logically sound one. It is as sound as: -Computers can be used to control nuclear weapons -Computers are constructed by Dell -Therefore, Dell is planning to kill everyone on Earth using nuclear weapons To explain- we can pare it the original down to the two statements and conclusion, revised for simplicity: -RFID chips can be programmed to kill -The FDA approved RFID chips -therefore the FDA wants to kill people Both of these are true. However, the conclusion's (and speculations made in the article) effectively assert that, because RFID chips are approved by the FDA, the government is planning to use them to control track, and kill people. This does not logically follow any more than my Dell example- it is a logical fallacy, which I believe is known as "Affirming the consequent". Only those looking for a particular conclusion will accept this sort of reasoning.Than k you BC. Yes, it is sensational and should not be taken seriously. But what is interesting is the improved capabilities of RFID chips. They are being use to improve security, protect property and lower costs of some factory work. It should be noted that this technology is also laced NFC. The letters represent Near Field Communication. This means data can be sent over a short distance very reliably with modest investment in NFC technology. But it does not work at long range. (References on request.) For a more academic list of articles try: Using NFC technology and find this on Google: Using NFC technology A few of these sound sensational, but near as much as the "naturalnews" site I used in the first post. |

Solve : Panama Canal Needs Water.? |
Answer» OK, not real news. But a real issue. You already know the Canall has celebrated 100 years. The video was released last year. Currently, an average of 34 ships go through the canal every day, and it takes about 52m gallons of water – roughly 82 Olympic-sized swimming POOLS’ worth – to move each one. That water comes from Gatun Lake and Alajuela Lake, which are fed by the Chagres River. A recent dry spell – linked to El Niño, the temporary warming of surface ocean temperatures in the eastern Pacific – caused the lakes’ water levels to drop significantly.Short summary. If they ignore the problem. the COST of everything from the pacific east REGION will go up in price, including electronics. What do you think? |

Solve : Toyota to Make a Hydrogen Fuel Cell? |
Answer» From Wired this week. Recently, Toyota announced production of the Mirai hydrogen fuel cell car to be sold in California. But what is a hydrogen fuel cell? Without going into all the DETAILS, the basic idea is that you can get an electrical current when you combine hydrogen with oxygen (you also get water). But is it really effective? Don't you lose energy by cracking hydrogen and then turning it back into water? Well, the details matter. Quote If you need a reliable battery with a large fuel supply, hydrogen fuel cells are a good choice. For EXAMPLE – in space, hydrogen fuel cells are a perfect choice. If everyone on Earth used the fuel cell, we would have a problem making enough hydrogen (and storing it). Please read the article to understand why Toyota might do it, despite the CRITICS view that it is a silly futile waste of time. Hint: Look for the phrase 'nuclear fusion.'Thanks for the interesting read. I thought the author was getting side tracked until it all came together in the end.. Quote from: DaveLembke on March 08, 2015, 01:25:51 PM Thanks for the interesting read. Solve : Smartphone/iPhone with/without GPS? |
Answer» I wish to buy a Smartphone/iPhone for my wife - our TomTom in the car is getting old. Which is cheaper and more advisable? A Smartphone/iPhone with GPS (throw away TomTom), or Smartphone/iPhone without GPS (buy a new TomTom)? The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a space-based satellite navigation system that provides location and time information in all weather conditions, anywhere on or near the Earth where there is an unobstructed line of sight to four or more GPS satellites.GPS depends on low orbit satellites. These are visible anywhere on the planet. But 3G and 4G uses high towers to cover a limited demographic Get out into the desert or badlands and they smartphone does not work. Unless they really have a GPS built into the devices. Reference about GPS and Smartphones. http://www.backpacker.com/gear/experts/ask-kristin/real-gps-unit-vs-smartphone-gps-apps/ Having said that, many users like the http://www.backpacker.com/gear/experts/ask-kristin/real-gps-unit-vs-smartphone-gps-apps/ better than Google maps. Can't speak for iPhone but all of my Android smartphones have had actual gps and when used with the CoPilot app I mentioned above, have been fully functional for gps navigation with absolutely no cellular connection required. Yep, any decent phone will have a proper GPS unit built in. They tend to use cell towers in addition to this to get a location faster.camerongray, yea and t thanks for the clarification. Awhile bask it had been an question. But here is an old post from another forum. http://www.backpacker.com/gear/experts/ask-kristin/real-gps-unit-vs-smartphone-gps-apps/ In that post, the author says he likes the smartphone better that the TRADITIONAL GPS when then where in a remote area. So APPARENTLY that smartphone has real GPS. |

Solve : New Operating system Idea? |
Answer» I was wanting to know weather someone would be nice enough to design me an operating system. Keeping the MS-DOS executive but renaming it to the name of the operating system (ie: "(OSName)-Executive2 or just call it "File-Executive")Basing it on the source, reengineered altered Microsoft code without Microsofts approval is illegal. The closest you could get to this is freedos project. So you want someone to spend years of development time to build you something for free? Not going to happen... Did you honestly expect someone to just go "Here's the code" and give you it? There is no market for a new operating system built from scratch for a regular PC, why would someone use or develop software for that when there are already much more established OSs out there. Apart from Windows, pretty much every other modern consumer operating system is either UNIX or Linux based, there is a reason for this. You seem to have a way too simplistic view of what an operating system actually is, it's not just about the UI which is all you are really discussing. What about the scheduling? Hardware compatibility? Multiprocessor support? Memory Management? An OS is WAY more complicated than what it looks like to the end user. If you really want to do it, you will need to get studying! Noone is just going to build you something for free. If you want to get into developing software, write applications or if you are only interested in operating systems, work on development of an existing open source OS such as Linux. There are a couple of small operating systems made by small groups of people such as http://mikeos.sourceforge.net/, but they are built purely out of interest, not for regular use.Quote from: 03siname01 on December 14, 2014, 09:19:26 AM create it and hand me the source code so that I can embed it onto a CD or floppy If I was to write a complete, working Operating System, I would not just hand over the source code. "idea-people" get zero credit for implementation. The people wishing to fly did not get credit for the aeroplane. 16-bit Windows is heavily coupled to 16-bit hardware and 16-bit x86 fiobles. It's also not Open Source, which basically means you are saying "Hey, could somebody completely recreate software that took years of engineering by dozens of talented individuals for the purpose of being 100% compatible and reliant on DOS? You just need to make a few minor changes, like not relying on DOS and not taking several years and only made by one person. Yeah and if you could then just give me the source code to that, that would be great." |

Solve : Urban legends: Why computers get slower.? |
Answer» This is more that off topic. It is off the wall. Some years ago I had no choice but to buy a new unit -- actually, many years ago -- because the two I had were like really, really so slow. BUT I still have them and a big box of the floppy discs with all sorts of neat programs on them. And I mean the original floppies, where the name came from. See, those two old geezers up there on that shelf are Trash 80s. Actually, I have parts of a third that was stripped to make its brothers work. TRS-80's go for around $100 on ebay; $200 or so, if you have all the boxes. Would be pretty silly to throw them out at this point, when you can sell them, even if you won't make an actual profit overall. Quote Strange, as I type this post, I am reminded of so many years ago when I used to dazzle friends with things I could do on those units. Awful long time ago. Might even be said to be another era. Guess that's right, isn't it? But even then some of us knew what was coming. And you should read some of the stuff I think will happen in the future. Of course, some close friends have read tidbits of my thoughts on the future of this field and they just chuckle or smirk and say, "There you go again. We know you're nuts. No need to keep proving it." Like my idea of a single family of languages for all devices and programs. And I am even thinking that it might be narrowed down to just one language, no single family that would have what might be described as dialects. Are they TRS-80 CoCo's? I liked the trick to DISPLAY 44 colors on-screen at once by switching between video modes during VBLANK. As far as those TRS-80s, i would sell them vs throwing them away. The heavy ones were the Model III and Model IV's. I owned a Model I everything connected separately and a Model III all in 1 unit with display, computer, drive, and keyboard. The Model III was better in that it took up less space and had more memory, but being an all in 1 unit when it needed to be serviced it was a pita. I sold my TRS-80s years ago and I wish I kept them, although if I had them today they would pretty much just sit as antiques away from direct sunlight and almost never powered. Planned Obsolescence is the driving force behind computers getting slower in some cases. Usually its just that the complexity of the programs running increases and so the CPU/GPU eventually is burdened by computations that are beyond what the CPU/GPU's were originally designed to realistically handle. And so performance declines over time if your constantly updating to newest versions of software, installing more modern software, and hardware remains the same. If you are someone who can get by with a system that is out of date but running software that is dated similarly to that of the older computer, you can use that system for many years beyond when most would consider it obsolete. I for example have some computers that I run offline that are obsolete such as a Pentium III 1Ghz Laptop with 512MB RAM, and 16MB nVidia GPU that is horrible for web use beyond e-mail and simple google searches, but running it only offline with Windows XP SP2 with no further security patches or service packs it plays older games very well such as Diablo II and Unreal Tournament 99, as well as it still works perfect for serial connection to older serial port Cisco devices etc to make changes etc when most modern laptops do not have a DB9 serial port unless you use one of those USB to serial dongles etc. Planned Obsolescence is basically designing products to only have a set life expectancy in which for computers and other computerized devices in order for the manufacturers to thrive they need to make sure that your a returning customer since they wouldnt make any money selling computers that last 15 years and so they engineer them to only last an average life expectancy, they also design them to have limitations to maximum resources and so motherboards are designed to only take up to 2GB RAM for example in which they could have been designed to take 4Gb or 8GB at the time, but weren't. As well as the CPU's for the motherboards are changed intentionally to make sure that a newer CPU type can not be installed into an older socket. ( *Although AMD has been really awesome with their AM2+ and AM3+ CPU sockets that allow for newer CPU's to be stuffed into older board -or- older CPU stuffed into newer board so that you dont have to swap out motherboards as frequently to upgrade systems. ) Intel though hasn't been as nice to make sockets that work among older and newer CPUs, although someone created a cool socket 775 mod to allow for Xeon server CPU's to be installed into some socket 775 desktop boards with a pin mask and redirection kit as well as cutting out some plastic bumps from the 775 socket. As far as Planned Obsolescence and OS, its in the best interest of Microsoft to create patches where the source is hidden from view to be strategically inefficient if they have a newer OS out there that they are promoting. They want you to make the leap from your older OS to the newer one spending money to upgrade either in the new OS direct or a whole new computer that they get a piece of the pie on the sale of the computer since their newest OS is bundled with it, and so if they wanted to, they could make security updates that while take care of real security issues also are coded in such a way to create intentional lag to systems. * There is no proof to this since the source code to updates is hidden from view to inspect its intent, but I have a feeling that this could be happening. In comparison Windows OS's seem to lag out faster than Linux OS's. And this may be because the source for Linux is out in the open, is coded more efficiently vs building onto old code that is riddled with inefficiencies, and there is no need to lag out an OS when its free to get the newest version of it. So there is no need to nudge people by lag to push them into a newer version of it. Also though to Windows defense its targeted far greater for malware and virus's that slow it down as well. But also comparing the 2 are like apples to oranges. They are very different even though similar. The best running systems I have ever owned were ones that operated mostly offline though where without updates to software and OS, it runs as fast today as it did 15 years ago. But the Software and OS is that of the time period that it was originally created. But when bringing such a system that was connected to the internet back in the days of dial-up to modern internet connection while if you can connect it to the internet the internet speed is fast, the content that the system has to handle with flash and other content is beyond the capabilities of the hardware and so it either wont handle the content or if it does the performance would feel as if the computer is crippled. For my online systems, I also perform rebuilds of them about once a year as for systems that are rebuilt fresh usually run far better than a system that has been running on the same build for 12 months with software ADDED and removed etc. This pretty much cleans the registry out of garbage and gets rid of any inefficiencies in the location of data on the HDD in which the hard drive isnt fragmented, but yet the data's placement is not as cleanly located as it could have been such as after a rebuild in which software added is more likely to be placed continuous on the platters vs as scattered as a system that has had lots of data added and removed and some data not being movable such as large game files etc. Also it sheds junk from services etc that may be orphans from software installs that are no longer installed etc in which CPU performance increases because the CPU is less burdened running on a cleaner build. as well as free memory between the old build and new build usually also shows more free memory available after clean rebuild.Quote from: BC_Programmer on December 09, 2014, 08:35:42 PM Are they TRS-80 CoCo's? I liked the trick to display 44 colors on-screen at once by switching between video modes during VBLANK. No, the ole' geezers up there are before the Color Computer model came out. I've got at least one manual stashed away around here, but the ole' geezers are too well wrapped up and snug to pull them down and check for serial numbers. But I think they are '78 or 79'. Serial number would be the best way to look it up. I seem to remember I was in some sort of Trash80 online club some years ago and we used to offer up info on our respective machines, but I think that was when I had my Gateway tower running and that is also just sitting about, having been replaced with all these other guys surrounding me at this work station. And that Trash80 info, digital type, would be on an external HD now which I won't have time to access today. |

Solve : Use odd names for better secujrity.? |
Answer» Some companies are now asking you to answer a list of questions to help identify you in case you lose your password. But that can weaken, not improve your security. Do you need to let your bank to now the name of your high school sweetheart? The name of your favorite pet? The name of your favorite TEACHER? Myself, I copy and paste password related details into a text file. The text file can be later found in a search. You can add some random comments to the text file to make it hard for a spy to realize there is a password in the file. If you can recall any of the random comments you made, you can search for all files with a word. Then you just have to look through maybe a dozen small text files that have the word.Or you use a proper password encryption system like LastPass (hosted) or KeePass (local) which encrypts all your saved passwords with a master password. |

Solve : Telephone twist !!!? |
Answer» Does anybody KNOW at what bitrate our voice is transmitted when we talk over the telephone? Tieline POTS solutions provide 15kHz FM quality audio to broadcasters for just the cost of a regular phone call. In FACT, it sounds so good your listeners will find it difficult to tell the difference between POTS and either IP or ISDN connections! That, of course, is an appeal for broadcasters to use high performance CODEC from that company. But for plain voice communication that would pot be needed. My guess is they would have to use about 256,000 bits per second. BTW: Do not confuse Bits Per Second and Hertz. Not the same thing. Hertz is Cycles Per Second. |

Solve : Embedded Microcontroller devices inside the PC.? |
Answer» This post is a very brad consideration of Embedded Systems/8051 Micro controller and similar devices. The Intel 8051 micro controller is one of the most popular general purpose micro controllers in use today. The success of the Intel 8051 spawned a number of CLONES which are collectively referred to as the MCS-51 family of microcontrollers, which includes chips from vendors such as Atmel, Philips, Infineon, and Texas Instruments.http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Embedded_Systems/8051_Microcontroller Quote Typical applicationsRelevance to PC USERS: So what relevance does this have on our present day personal computer experience? More that one might guess. For one, such devices are used to mass-produce modern computer COMPONENTS. Furthermore, some parts of a modern desktop, laptop or table will contain a micro controller in addition to the main CPU of the device. Such is needed to manage memory, refresh the display or connect to Wi-Fi. The keyboard has a micro controller. So does your mouse. Recently attention was drawn to the USB controllers used in one particular brand of USB thumb drive. It was hard to understand that a simple device could hide a virus in such a way the most AV programs could not find it. One reason is that the details of the micro-controller used are not published. Therefore an AV program does not know how to read the hidden information. But the PROBLEM, if it is real, would not be limited to just USB devices. MCUsa are in printers, modems, routers and microwave overs. Each manufacturer of a micro controller can have there own set of codes use to hide accede to the programmable memory area. The are dozens of different manufacturers and each can have several variations on designs. A few companies are: (Major semiconductor firms Sales rank 2011 ) Intel Corporation Samsung Electronics Texas Instruments Toshiba Semiconductor Renesas Electronics Qualcomm STMicroelectronics Hynix Micron Technology Broadcom AMD Infineon Technologies Of course the list goes on and on. The above is just the big ones. Theyall have some kind of controllers in the product line. For example, AMD makes a micro controller the uses the same code as the x86 family of CPUs. Gizmo board tiny AMD powered x86 MCU. Video Yes, the AMD board is a real overkill for most applications. Where low-power and low speed are needed a micro controller can be the size of a girl's fingernail. So what is the point of this? There was a general concept that all electronics devices other that TM and the CPU were permanent t non-programmable circuits. It was thought by many that software could only change RAM and and hard drive data. Not true. Most of the micro controllers in use today can be re programed by software alone. If it has have the codes. It has been suggested that manufacturers should use heavy encryption to make it very hard for even professional hackers to get into the controllers without prior knowledge of the codes. However, many believe this is a false alarm. Many are confident that the present AV programs are good enough and it is not likely any group of hackers will make a huge effort to learn how to program controllers to support malware. Do you have any knowledge of how to program micro controllers? If so, what is possible? What is likely? |

Solve : Best software?? |
Answer» What software would you never be able to live without?
Linux in all its forms. You don't even have to have it to benefit from it. It does these things and more:
Well Geek-9pm (long time no see, by the way!), I am a long time user and lover of Linux as well. What programs do you tend to operate on Linux? Lately I've been sticking to Fedora (I'm displeased with the Ubuntu developments of the last two years). I tend to like most of it's default programs for text editing and compressing functions. But, I continue to use Chrome, GIMP, VLC, Pidgin, and LibreOffice on it. In addition, WINE and PlayOnLinux are essential to me also. Windows continues to be my main OS for various reasons. DaveLembke and camerongray, those were very detailed responses. I will be looking at many of the software programs you listed. Well, I use puppy Linux just because it boots quick from a CD. I use GPart when I have trouble with a drive partition. My Smartphone has Android, which is derived show how from Linux. The routers I own might have Linux code , I don't know. The next automobile I buy might be Linux controlled. If I ever get a MRI, it might be using a variant of Linux. For daily use UltraEdit32, WinRAR, Xshell (like Putty but more usable), Speedfan, VLC Media Player. For occasional use a USB pen bootable via Grub4DOS with ISOs of Slax Linux, Gparted and Windows 7 Recovery Disk. Plus on my OpenSuse machine I run SABnzbd and on my NAS I run Transmission. Stuff I need for work: Visual Studio 2013 (Not that specific version, but hey, MSDN Ultimate subscription would be wasted if I used Express, right?) pgAdmin (we use Postgres) Theos Workstation (for connecting to the THEOS Server terminal. Not useful otherwise.) Outlook 2013. I use Outlook for my work E-mail, and thunderbird has the rest. I could add them all to thunderbird but my work E-mail Server is on our VPN which I might not always connect to which causes thunderbird to choke and complain TortoiseSVN. Our Source repository is on our VPN and uses SVN. Some might wonder why not git or some other source control. WEll this is only the source control for the Windows programs. the older THEOS-based programs literally have zero source control except a few backups of the source code. SVN is a huge step up in that context. (Also, SVN is easier to centralize, whereas git is designed to be distributed). NSIS For creating installers. Netbeans/IntelliJ/Eclipse We haven't really found a good IDE to use for our one Java Program which is used as an adapter to Jasper Reports. Netbeans is entirely source control unfriendly and requires projects be "exported"; IntelliJ would work except the built .jar file never works properly. Eclipse I know works with source control at the project level so that was going to be the next thing to try the next time we get annoyed by me being the only person who can easily build the Java program even when others have changed it. of course this isn't necessary but any IDE is better than futzing about with javac. VMWare has been invaluable for testing. Some problems only manifest on specific machines, or sometimes my development machine has a different program setting somewhere that prevents it. With a VM I can clean install all our software and test it, as well as mess around with the configuration of things like Java which I would rather not do on my main system (which has other applications using Java). That's the stuff I Need for work. I also use other programs for it but could go without them: Resharper Is an Add-in for Visual Studio. It improves some built in options and adds others such as code inspections and added static analysis tools. eg it will highlight a comparison being used somewhere and indicate that the expression will always be true, or the expression will always be false at that point in the code, which can help remove redundant segments. I get a free personal license for this so I see no good reason not to use it. (Except on my laptop, where I've uninstalled it since it makes the system impossible to use performance wise). VisualSVN is another add-on which integrates Visual Studio with Tortoise SVN. Otherwise dealing with source control means opening Windows Explorer and using context menus to commit/update/add stuff. It's also easy to forget stuff. The add-in shows whether stuff is up to date, has changed, or is conflicted right in the project explorer. Editpad Pro Text Editor. Aside from text editing I also use it oddly enough as my main FTP Client. It allows editing and saving items directly to an FTP/webhost which is useful. It puts teh FTP panel from notepad++ to shame for certain. Fences is useful as well. I don't see my desktop very often but when I do at least the shortcuts are nicely organized. I forgot the one thing I use on any *nix device - pico/nano, so handy with tty logins To me the most needed are Skype and FireFox, without the rest I can do, but these 2 buddies are vitalI can't think of any software I couldn't do without. The reason for that is that there are so many alternatives available. I use Win 7 for work, Win 7 & Win 8 at home but I could use Win XP or one of the many Linux distros if need be. I need a BROWSER and I use FireFox but I could use Chrome, Opera, IE, etc... I use Office 2013 but there are many alternatives to that as well. Pretty much any software program you can think of, there are alternatives to it that make it so it's not so indispensable. I like having choices.Judging by the amount of time I spend on the internet, my most definite pick is chrome. Link Removed... |
