Calculatethe numberof watermoleculespresentin onedropof waterwhichweights 0.18 g.

Answer»

Solution :The Molecular Mass of water `H_(2)O` is 18.
18 g of water molecule = 1 mole
0.18 g of water = `(1)/(18)xx0.18=0.01` mole.
One mole of water CONTAINS `6.023xx10^(23)` (water MOLECULES)
`therefore 0.01` mole of water contains `(6.023)/(1)xx10^(23)xx0.01=6.023xx10^(21)` molecules.

Vaibhav had gone to his uncle's home in a foreign country where the domestic electric supply is D.C. (Direct Current). An electrician was working in his uncle's kitchen who was trying to find out the location of electric wiring in a particular wall for further electrical work. Failing to do so, the electrician recommended the breaking of substantial portion of the kitchen wall. Vaibhav told his uncle that he could locate the position of current-carrying wires in the kitchen wall without breaking the kitchen wall. In order to do this, Vaibhav purchased a small device from the market and moved it slowly over the whole kitchen wall. After about ten minutes, Vaibhav could locate the position of all the current-carrying wires in this kitchen wall. His uncle was happy that now only a small portion of the kitchen wall will have to be dismantled. (a) What was the small device purchased by Vaibhav ? (b) What was noticed by Vaibhav when this device was moved slowly over the current-carrying wires embedded in the wall ? (c) What name was given to the effect which helped Vaibhav to locate the concealed current-carrying wires in the wall ? Name the scientist who discovered the above effect. (e) What values are shown by Vaibhav in this episode ?

Answer»

SOLUTION :(a) Vaibhav purchaseda plotting compass.
(b) When Vaibhav moved the plotting compass over the WALL slowly, the compass needle was deflected from its usual north-south position whenever compass came over the current-carrying wires.
(c) Magnetic effect of electric current.
(d) Oersted.
(e) The values shown by Vaibhav are (i) Knowledge of scientific facts (that even a concealed current-carrying wire in a wall can CREATE magnetic field around it and deflect compass needle), and (ii) APPLICATION of knowledge in everyday situations.

Describe the rocket propultion.

Answer»

Solution :(i) Propulsion of rockets is baed on the law of conservation of linear momentum as well as Newton.s III law of motion.
(ii) Rockets are filled with a fuel (either liquid or solid) in the propellant tank. When the rocket is fired, this fuel is burn and a HOT gas is ejected withahigh speed from the nozzle of the rocket, producing a huge momentum.
(iii) To balance this momentum, an EQUAL and opposite reaction force is PRODUCED in the combustion chamber, which makes the rocket project forward.
(iv) While in motion, the MASS of the rocket gradually decreases, until the fuel is completely burnt out.
(v) At one stage, it reaches a VELOCITY, which is sufficient to just escape from the gravitational pull of the earth. this velocity is called escape velocity.

Concave lens is used in magnifying glasses.

Answer»

Solution :A magnifying glass is a CONVEX Jens which produces a magnified image of an object. For a magnified image to be OBSERVED the distance between the object and the lens has to be shorter than the focal LENGTH OFTHE Jens: The image fo"rmed is upright, magnified and VIRTUAL. Hence a convex lens is used in manufacturing magnifying glasses.

(i)Classify the types of force based on their application . (ii)Which instrument is used to measure the electric current? How should it be connected in a circuit?

Answer»

Solution :Based on the direction in which the forces act, they can be classified into TWO types as: (i)Like parallel forces and (ii)Unlike parallel forces
Like parallel forces: Two or more forces of equal or unequal magnitude acting along the same direction, parallel forces to each other are called like parallel forces.
Unlike parallel forces :If two or more equal forces of unequal forces act along opposite directions parallel to each other, then they are called unlike parallel forces.

Writenotes on variousfactorsaffectingsolubility.

Answer»

SOLUTION :(i) factors affecting solubility: There are three main factors which govem the solubility of solute they are: (i) Nature of the solute and solvent (ii) Temperature (iii) pressure
(i)Nature of the solute and solvent: the nature of the solute and solvent plays an important role in solubility. Although WATER dissolves an enormous variety of substances, both ionic and covalent, it does not dissolve everything . The phrase that scientists often use when predicting solubility is " like dissolves like". This expression means that DISSOLVING occurs when similarities exist between the solvent and the solute. For example : Common salt is a POLAR compound and dissolves readily in polar sovent like water.
Non-polar compounds are soluble in non-polar solvents. For example, Fat dissolved in ether. But non-polar compounds, do not dissolve in polar solvents, polar compounds do not dissolve in non-polar solvents.
(ii) Effect of Temperature
Solubility of Solids in Liquid : Generally, solubility of a solid solute in a liquid solvent increases with increase in temperature. For example, a greater amount of sugar will dissolve in warm water than in cold water.
In endothermic process, solubility increases with increase in temperature.
In exothermic process, solubility decrease with increase in temperature.
Solubility of Gases in liquid : Solubility of gases in liquid decrease with increase in temperature. Generally, water contains dissolved oxygen. When water is boiled , the solubility of oxygen in water decreases , so oxygen escapes in the form of bubbles.
Aquatic animals live more in cold regions becuase, more amount of dissolved oxygen is present in the water of cold regions. This shows that hte solubility of oxygen in water is more at low temperatures.
(iii) Effect of Pressure : Effect of pressure is observed only in the case of solubility of a gas in a liquid. When the pressure is increased, the solubility of a gas in liquid increases.
The common EXAMPLES for solubility of gases in liquids are carbonated beverages, i.e.,soft drinks, households cleanears containing aqueous solution of ammonia, formalinaqueous solution of formaldehyde etc.

Dietary fibre-found mainly in fruits, vegetables, whole grains and legumes- is probably best known for its ability to prevent or relieve constipation. But foods containing fibre can provide other health benefits as well, such as helping to maintain a healthy weight and lowering your risk of diabetes, heart disease and some types of cancer. Dietary fibre, also known as roughage or bulk, includes the parts of plant foods your body can't digest or absorb. Unlike other food components, such as fats, proteins or carbohydrates- which your body breaks down and absorbs- fibre isn't digested by your body. Instread, it passes relatively intact through your stomach, small intestine and colon and out of your body. Which food items provide rich fibre content?

Answer»

Solution :FRUITS, VEGETABLES, whole grains and LEGUMES give RICH AMOUNT of dietary fibre.
