What you can do is take a screenshot of your website, save it as an IMAGE, and insert that on your webpage.You probably want a thumbnail of the web page only, not the WHOLE browser window.  Am I right?  If so, I suggest just TAKING a SCREEN print, cropping it to get only the web page, and then resizing it.  Easy Thumbnails is a nice freeware tool to use to create thumbnails from LARGER images.

            I have a new problem again. Now it is with dynamic asp.net web pages. Well the problem is I've an application form that has to be filled and SUBMITTED by the USERS. Whenever the user click on submit button, the DATA has to be saved in database and a new dynamic web page should be created and displayed with some relevant application. The dynamic page shouldn't have any toolbars except the address bar.

            My form is currently saving the DETAILS in database but i don't know the further operation i.e., creating new form and displaying it without toolbars.
 
            I'm using Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2008 Express edition

OK using Joomla just to start. I USE breadcrumbs in my 'main' menu which work fine as they GIVE a link back to previous pages.
Problem I have is the rest of my site will not accept breadcrumbs.. this is an issue when I have a few hundred articles that the user can view but then has to go back to the homepage to view ANOTHER. If you need more INFO, I will provide it.

I learnt from msdn and completed my project successfully. You are using Visual Studio and there is inbuilt msdn library , you can use help utilities in it.....There is option "How do I" in help menu. Please go through it...

since you want it easier to use then "webs.com", it sounds like what you want is more along the lines of a site builder, as kpac mentioned. most free hosts come with a relatively crappy WYSIWYG editor, but you can also download and buy a variety of applications (frontpage, dreamweaver, heck, even Visual Interdev (although I doubt you'd be able to buy it anywhere these days).

On the other hand- if your getting one for your work- is it going to be a site for the company? that would be rather more involved and would involve registering a domain name, buying hosting, etc- and then you get to deal with installing (assuming you don't want to mess around with that ICKY HTML, CSS, PHP, etc) some sort of Content management system, which one you choose would depend on exactly what type of content you will have (technically forum and blog SOFTWARE, like SMF,VBulletin, Wordpress, and Squarespace all count as a sort of "content management" system, but with some specialized for specific types of content.you might try this website hoster / maker You can make websites for free in flash with their tools. Personally - I'd recommend free webhosting and installing a CMS such as Drupal, Joomla, Wordpress.  They aren't that easy to use but results are VERY professional and advert free (Depending on webhost)

Almost everything you need Flash or Sockwave for on the net  so if I can code my sound file to  use them to play it it will be able to.

I am new to HTML and am trying to figure out a way to make my GALLERY of PHOTOS become sort of a loop (when you get to the last photo it goes to the first & if you PRESS on the left arrow it goes back to the last photo....

I am not sure how to do it and was hoping for some help....

I'm using transparent images in my website. They are working fine in Mozilla 3.6 but while coming to Internet Explorer 6 some shaded region is appearing around the images. I'm attaching the example screen SHOTS here below.
           How can i get rid of this problem. I want to make my transparent images make visible in transparent in IE 6.

If I use the old   <BODY BACKGROUND="Leaf A1.JPG">    will it do something  to the page  because the rest of it is in  CSS???

Or if I use  CSS  in the head  tags  to place  the background image it will load faster???

I would say that the internal style (head) is faster because it doesn't have to go search for an external file. I might be wrong though.

How do web designers get to put a portfolio of their work onto a webpage?You mean put a portfolio of their work on their own website?  Obviously, they WOULD just create the PAGE.  Am I missing the point of your question?

If you mean, how does someone who is just getting started in web design develop a portfolio page, well, that's a different issue.  And, I think that can be a difficult hurdle to JUMP.  I think one approach would be to do few small sites for free or for a very LOW price.

I have a code for a rotating banner which works great but at the moment all it does is rotate in sequence 1,2,3,4 and over again. Is it possible to ad a COMMAND that will enable it to display randomly rather than in sequence? Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

I'm afraid that there is no real way to not have to click as far as I know. I've done extensive research into this, and it is possible to have one song in the background, there is not a way to MAKE an entire playlist play automatically without clicking. As fot the OnLoad event, that's basically for JavaScripting. I looked hard into trying to find a way to JavaScript a playlist, but found nothing.

The fact that I was UNABLE to find it doesn't mean there is no way, but if Google turns up no results in 20 minutes I get a little discouraged. If the link works when clicked on, then what you could do is have the first mp3 out of that playlist as background music for your site, and then have a that reads, "Click for more". Only problem with that is that unless the m3u is a download, you're going to have to STOP the playing music. That's not really a problem.

So, let's say you took my advice and had the first piece of music playing. The code would end up like this:

If you did that, adding URLs where necessary, it would allow your viewers to HEAR a piece of the music while offering them more if they like it. If this is what you want to do, you should really think about running a streaming audio server.

One point about IFRAMEs though: they are not WELL supported in browsers, and should be avoided if at all possible.  I'd rather use javascript and HIDDEN DIVs for this kind of effect.

By script, I mean PHP, Perl, Python, ASP, or some other alternative, it has to be some kind of server side scripting... Also, do you mean download to another computer with out their knowledge , or make the normal download box popup? If you are trying to acheive "the normal download box popup", all you have to do is PROVIDE a link to the file that you are allowing to be downloaded, There are also numerous other ways in which to do so, I will list them below. Who is your webhost? As to the click counter, depending on what they offer, you may not be able to make a click counter. GET back with us on who your webhost is and what they offer and maybe I or someone else can come up with something for a click counter.

I will give it a shot.Kelly, if the presentation has animations, sounds, etc, you'll really need the user to download the PP file and view it in the free standalone PP viewer (which you can provide a link to on your site).  I seem to recall that MS provides a PP plugin for IE, but there isn't one for Firefox/other browsers, that I know of.Thanks Rob

I'm looking for a good program to design/create web pages. I have Dreamweaver 6/MX, but don't really know how to use it. It came bundled with my MX Studio that I bought a few years back in college. I am wondering if there is any easier to use software than Dreamweaver to Drag & Drop, or create pages as easiliy as it is in MS Word, where you design the layout, then add links and java script afterwards to it?

I use to code everything ( HTML & Java Scripts ) from scratch, but it is time consuming, and I'd rather use a software application that would be more beneficial to my limited amount of time every evening.

I tried MS Word, and Powerpoint from Office 2000 to design web pages, but they come out like junk, large borders on each side of the web pages. Everything looks nice when in the Word or Powerpoint layout/format, but when saved as HTML, and viewed through my browser, they are horrible looking with large margins at each side of the page.

I searched the internet for an inexpensive tool to create nice professional looking web pages, and all I find is very expensive software and sites that want $20/month to use their tools.

I could, but would rather not rip other peoples source code to alter for my own...  :-/  Thanks for any suggestions...Mybe I need to get a BOOK on Dreamweaver 6/MX and read up to learn it.    :-?You could try MS Frontpage. Just my $0.02, and mainly because I don't like Frontpage (TOOK out lots of my work when it crashed once, and I've never trusted it since . . .)FrontPage STILL produces horrible, non-standard code.  Dreamweaver is much better, although I don't like the way its layout tables allow for sloppy design and hideously nested tables with random rowspans and column spans.

Avoid FrontPage at all costs.  Microsoft's NEXT web design effort, "Web Expression" looks much better.  Any of the others listed in this thread are good too.  Out of the lot though, I'd say if you have Dreamweaver and don't want to code in plain text, use it.  There are plenty of tutorials around, including those that come with Dreamweaver.

However I get a requist to enter my username and password, it is never RIGHT. I ALWAYS get the error MESSAGE wrong username/password.

I do have another question, is it possible (in php) to see from which user on the .htaccess there is logged in. For example if I use the username blabla and logged in I would see welcome, blabla and if I log in with bla2 I would see welcome bla2. If it's possbile, how should you do this then?
Get rid of the AuthGroupFile and require group lines.  They relate to Unix/Linux groups, and I don't think they're what you're intending  You don't need the .htgroup file, I don't think.

If you want to code in PHP, I think DREAMWEAVER may have a PHP syntax highlighter that you could use.  Personally I do all my CODING in plaintext with a good syntax-highlighting editor.  (My current favourite is PSPad Editor - I have tried a lot of different web/php IDEs on my travels; PSPad is my favourite to date.)

I have a Dell INSPIRON 1525 with Windows 7 Ultimate. Upon receiving it, I enabled the Internet Information SERVICES feature. i currently have no idea where this is happening. This is running on my own server that does have PHP, MySQL, ext on the LAMP server typeLook in your web server logs.  It might be that the scripts do not have the necessary permissions at the file level, to write to that file.AHA!! thanks.

Anyway, the file you're writing too will doubtless acquire permissions from whatever process is running the script that originally creates it.  On typically Linux systems that will be the apache, httpd or www-data user.  If you're user VirtualMin however, web scripts usually run under the id of the VirtualMin user.  Check which is the case, then check the ownership of the parent directory.  See if it all matches up.

PHP has functions related to file ownership and mode.  Review those.  http://uk.php.net/manual/en/ref.filesystem.php

If the file you're loading is too big, you should consider chopping something off the top of the file or only showing some of it by default.  You could use Ajax to pull in more of the file as needed - like the way that Face book pages load extra content only once you scroll to the bottom of the page.

In Internet Explorer, the navbar and main content get centered like I want them to be, but in Chrome & Firefox they stick to the left. Apparently there is a CSS attribute somewhere that Chrome and Firefox won't READ like Internet Explorer. Anyone know what attribute I need to change so the centering will be universally recognized?

Ok, so, i want to upload some files to the net so i have access to them at all TIMES, at any computer, however, i am afraid this can run into copyright laws about this if not done right.

Right now, i just have a PHP page that asks for a password before showing the page with the file links, but this is not secure simply because of the reason someone could just type in the URL of the folder with the files and bypass the password.

How should i be going about this, if i should be at all. Thanks.

Most of the servers I have used are Linux-based, not windows. I don't think you can bypass a password protected directory in Linux. I never have been able to do that. But I don't know everything.

There is a thing called 'GoToMyPC' that many people use to get to there home computer while they are on the road. Do you mean to SAY that it is not secure enough to protect you?

And there ate other programs like it.

AkashIt's a problem with how IE is handling CSS.  When viewed in IE9, the site looks fine until you switch on Compatibility View - so clearly it's a problem inherited from older versions of the browser.

Here's how I usually approach this problem:  Selectively delete sections of the CSS, reloading the page each time, until I find the code that is causing the problem.  Then carefully examine that code and see how I can reproduce the effect in an IE-friendly manner (using condition stylesheets if ABSOLUTELY necessary).If you happen to use a new-ish version of Dreamweaver, its browser compatability checking is top quality.

My cheap space on a a virtual server lets me put as many domains as I want.
 I never write a bit of code. The name server directs the domains to folders on my site.
So why do you have to do this code?My hosting solution has a strange arrangement  The first domain is in the root directory. The second domain is in a sub-directory. WITHOUT the mod_rewrite the site won't function. For instance my third site is claimed by my original domain. Ie my domain.com/new site.com I can't get the mod_rewrite code correct to stop the main site from claiming the new site. That's why I need the code. Unless the site is free, you should find another web host.
A LOT of cheap hosting is on a Linux server using cpanel.

If you PAY a little extra, the Web Host can sell you a WHM (Web Host Manager) where is domain has its own public_html directory.Not a bad idea. I was hoping to work out something here. Wonder if there's a way to create a subdirectory for the main site and work out the htaccess that way. This is exactly the way my host is set up too - the main site IS the public_html FOLDER and other sites are in, for e.g. abc.com subfolders. This is done through cPanel though, so I don't have a clue what htaccess rules are applied to them.One detail.

you also  have to set the timeservers for the domain.
The timeservers have to be published and propagated over the WWW before they will resolve.

I have never tried to restore a Word Press install to another  site. Will it work? Can it be done? And suggestions?
You basically have to download all the files and export the DB as a SQL FILE. Then upload the files to the new server, and run the SQL file in PHPMyAdmin (for example) to create the new database. Then open the wp-config.php file and update the database details and paths.Tools->Export in the dashboard.

Now, its a problem with mysql, as it will not let me log into the database with the information that correctly logs into the MySQL monitor through command line. Check which IP address MySQL is binding to (LOCATE my.cnf - often in /etc).  There will usually be a line such as:

Many forum SOFTWARE PACKAGES are able to send mail using SMTP rather than the server's own mail server.Well, i will be honest, when i tried to launch this, one of the members of the site marked the email as spam, and my ISP shut down port 25 for me from now on, and did not give an option to re-enable it. Well I am trying to get Perl CGI's to work with Apache and Im stumped. I edited the http.conf file to remove the HASH # before the Perl module and RESTARTED the Apache server service and its acting like the handler for Perl is missing. Is there something else I need to do other than ENABLE the Perl module with Apache?

By the way it is all running "locally" on my laptop so it should be easy to troubleshoot. I also disabled my firewall on Windows XP thinking that maybe the firewall was conflicting while not connected to internet.

My site has a navigational sidebar and a main "content" area, which are separate columns and APPEAR so in all the browsers I've tried. This is, however, done by "cheating"; the navbar is 180px so I just use relative positioning to move the content over 180px.

the Margin and Border settings are important here. The left margin of course is set to 185 pixels to make it to the right of the navigation bar div, and leave a "gap" of 5 pixels.

This is how I usually do it. Of course you don't have to use pixels, and can use any measurement you like.  A very basic implementation with in-line CSS might look like this. this one makes the left side 90%, and the right side 10%.

Many thanks for the reply. It was helpful but whilst working through it I found an error in my code in the CSS. I had a # where I should have had a full stop. (Designating a DIV ID instead of a Class)Correcting this solved the problem.

It is amazing how many times you can work through the same thing and not see an error
