Off topic but what's GOING on here with the FORUM username puzzle game?  The starts with a member named eclipse255.  But that member closed their forum account, as indicated by "GUEST" below their username in the original POST and their second post.  Then later, they apparently renewed their forum membership using the same username again.  And finally, we see a member named Dewayne ron spliff who is apparently the same person as eclipse255.  This MAKES a very messy discussion thread.  Does this person not understand this?

I am very confused and ashamed also that my FRIEND asked me to change the POST style in BLOGGER but after an hour i could not this is out of my mind and i don't know what to do so plz any body tell me that how to copy that similar grid style post design in any other blogger BLOG.

How do you convert a script to a windows.exe file,
I have a website script and am trying to make a website with it, I was told to convert it to a windows.exe file to be able to work with it. Or how do I go about working and editing the script?We are going to NEED a lot of more information than this.I have a website template, and need to know how to work on it?? Is the template a form of HTML?You wouldn't compile any sort of website template to an .exe file.  If these templates are .html, .js or .css files you will edit them with a text editor such as Notepad, Sublime Text or Notepad++.

Do you have a link to the template you are talking about.Is there a software where you can edit the text and see your website, and what you are creating at the same time?

The tone of the first post would indicate the OP has no experience with running scripts either remotely on local. Now if you wish to help him step-by step, please do so. And he did not say which script language.

Hey! I need some advice about where to go to get a website as I've recently started my own little business (t-shirt printing) and the next step is to get a website set up for it. I've asked a few people about it and also done a search on google. Looks like there are some good free blog/website sites like WordPress and Blogger but then I was wondering if it was worth paying for a webhosting company like 1&1 for example...can anyone give me some tips or suggestions? Anyone own a website on a good site than you can suggest? Some of my friends have a blog on Blogger but I don't know if it's suitable for a business as they just have like personal blogs on there. For a business site you'd really want to pay for web hosting (free stuff is often unreliable and companies can disappear overnight taking your site with them) and get a domain name (e.g. cp39tshirtprinting.com).

Then when it comes to building your site you would PROBABLY be best to install a Content Management System (CMS) on your web hosting package.  Some examples would be DRUPAL, Wordpress or (if you like pain) Joomla.  You would then use this software to build your site.  While Drupal is a lot more powerful you may find Wordpress to be the best option as there are loads of premade themes that you can use to build your site with.Awesome, thank you for the info! Thanks to another FORUM MEMBER I was able to get a script to work that executes a batch  script. My problem now is I need the Perl script to continue to the next line of code while the batch script is running.  The Perl script wants to stop and wait til the batch script is finished before it goes to the next line. The batch script creates a video file in real time, the next line of code uses "Location:" to direct the user to the location where the video file is LOCATED. Any help in getting the Perl script to continue would be much appreciated.
Sorry for not getting to this until 21 days later, but if your still out there looking for a solution try ADDING START before the batch file that is called to process, this should start the batch and skip to the next line of the perl script. This is assuming that your calling the batch by system ( ); call.

The batch should run in a new window, and the perl will continue to run in its own shell window.

Looks like some sort of FORMATTING is becoming embedded in it. I'd try using a basic text editor that wont add formatting to the content as for I think that is the problem. Unfortunately I am not a Apple user so I can only go on this formatting guess vs confirm. Oddly ENOUGH it has quotes elsewhere in the HTML so something strange is happening with just the CENTER portion.

On the IBM/PC side of computers using wordpad instead of notepad can cause similar ISSUES so notepad is best. I use Notepad++ for raw HTML and other coding, but Notepad++ hasnt been ported yet for Macs, however there is a similar alternative as shared here: http://decoding.wordpress.com/2010/03/20/textwrangler-best-alternative-to-notepad-for-mac-os-x/Is your PC set up for English?

I use the basic TextEdit that come with my mac, maybe I should use Wordpress?TextEdit isn't really an ideal editor for HTML as it supports stuff like fonts which you don't want for this.  For mac you may want to try something like TextWrangler.Thanks for you advise camerongray I am now using Text Wrangler and it's much better already :-)

Please not that is is not just a font. It is a charset.
May Windows fonts have most, if not all, of chars in the charset.
It is more often called code page and one such is also called ANSI. The ANSI set is also the DOS system font, or can be declared to be the system font.

Of course, different languages will alter the code page. Example if the code page is Brazilian Portuguese, it does not look the same as English and can REALLY confuse you if you visit Brazil and want to use a fiends computer in DOS.

That is some good information, but the font you linked is not right. If you look at the font preview area on the site you linked, there is a tiny down arrow in the lower left. If you press that repeatedly, you will see that that font doesn't have the correct characters. It has the weird windows foreign language characters instead of the old ASCII dos ones. I NEED a font with all the chars like I linked in the OP. Found it!

You can see it has the extended chars at the bottom if you look at the first and second images.In at least one of the links I gave, the control chars and not supposed to have visible forms. But you know,  that was done in old DOS versions.
Codes from 0 to 31 do not print. But TAB, CR and LF do something to cursor position. In web page design you can not use these directly. You have to have a tag that is sued for any special codes.

Is it possible to build a button application into a web page that when pushed it runs a softphone app. on our SERVER(Java or ActiveX) and allows the person browsing to be added to our support query that is controlled by our VOIP PBX.  But it would have to WORK even if the user didn't have any softphone software.

Ie: "Press Here to be connected to a support AGENT NOW"I imagine that it is possible but it would really depend on the VoIP system you are using.  You would really need to use Java for this (ActiveX is Windows only) so even then it's not a great idea as Java in the browser is very TRICKY to get WORKING and has loads of security issues.

If you want something like this you would really be best just to use something like embedding a skype link into the page as this would be a lot easier.  Not only that but users would be much happier using something like that than running a completely unknown Java applet which is severely warned against.

Almost certainly they are just random strings. POSSIBLY the seemingly contant 'NTc' PART has some significance to the site operator, but the REMAINDER was probably GENERATED randomly and has no intrinsic meaning.
I don't know if this may help but it SEEMS to be something to do with images on facebook from news chanels or rss feeds.

Recently my web site was down. I got another host. But the new host does not let VISITORS to directly view my pictures in the subtler /images but it USED to be so.
Does the  .htaccess  control this? May I edit it?
Or do I need to go into the file manage and set permissions or folders I want others to get into?
Years of  GETTING sites from HOSTS, I NEVER countered this. Is this something new?

Thanks for all that help If one were to have PHP with a Database such as MySQL backing it, you could create a calender that you authenticate to gain access to, and then whatever is not completed the prior day can carry to the FOLLOWING if that is your question. At my advise Joomla is half-way  between a blog like Wordpress (text, journalistic site ) and Altervista PAGES (more GRAPHIC).   If you have an image that small, you really shouldn't be stretching it to fill the entire page, just image how horrible a 280x177 image will look on an average laptop at 1366x768 or EVEN on some machines at 2560x1440 -You'll be able to see the individual pixels!

I had some sites I closed down, but a swatch engine may find some material still in the chge of the search company computers.

Yes, do not try to locate a site by the IPv4 numbers. Use of the domain name is required. Only some servers will respond using the four dotted decimals.

Rightly or wrongly, I've been using Picasa for years to store and edit travel photos.

I've occasionally used Picasa (Picasa Web?) to create slideshows and put on Blogger pages to share with friends and family.

Now, all friends and family seem to be on iPads, and Picasa slideshows are in Flash.

I've used "Slidemypics.com" to easily convert the slideshows, but it loses the captions that were created in Picasa.

I tried HTML Five Slideshow maker, and it's not easy to use (and seems to lose the captions as well).

Any suggestions?

I'm also open to eventually creating a website to house all this, so I'll be asking about that next.

And also eventually asking "What's a cool way to post those cool panoramic photos that looks so cool?"

Thanks Here's an idea that might work for you. Unless you just enjoy doing a lot of work, it's best to use the easy and quick method with stuff that's already available.
Assuming the slideshow runs quite well on your personal computer, there is a practical way to to make a copy of it and provided to your friends and relatives who use tablets for cell phones.
You can ACQUIRE the entire hardware or software programs that will capture live video. The good ones will capture very high resolution video and audio. It will be stored in a format that can be LATER converted to a suitable file The most common video files used for, tablets, and cell phones is either MP4 or AVI. Both of which can be reduced in size and frame rate and bit to suit smaller devices.

You might start out by trying some of the free software programs that are available. To use these programs, you'll need to have a high-performance desktop computer and no tasks running in the background. My Googling led to the two aforementioned software solutions; Googling your exact phrasing only leads to WordPress solutions. Everything I have, INCLUDING links that have been SHARED, already points to Blogger not WordPress, so I'm hesitant to move everything if I don't have to.

That's not a Must (I could always just post re-direct links), but what is a Must is being able to use photos as edited already in Picasa (including captions)...

I have looked it up on line and everything is how to make the actual bullets different COLORS. I am wanting my whole list to be one color. The text and all. I have my css file and clueless as to what to add and where to add it. One person said li {text-color: #111111111;} but this doesn't work. I am so confused. Instead you would USE the 'color' attribute with a valid colour code.  For example, with this HTML:

I see lots of stuff, but I have no idea how to select one. I can not pay for them because my wimpy website does not earn any money at all. But if it every did, would I then have to pay for all or any images I use?

There are many sites out there that offer free images. Those that i use to get from these sites i'd document and save the documentation just in CASE later on someone claimed that I was using their image illegally, I'd be able to show the source of where it was offered for free. I never had to deal with such a claim although in my HTML source I had comments on where the images were used from as well to state that these aren't mine as well.

Many Web based presentations are actually created by programs that go beyhound just HTML and CSS.
Microsoft has a suite of programming tools called "Visual Studio". You can get a free copy that will allow you to learn web design using a high-level method that focus on getting results aether that learning how to code.

Leaning  HTML is for people who  do not have the imagination to produce content, so they just learn to code. If you go that route, you will be a savant that can code and nothing more.

I recommend this for anybody who is starting from zero. 
Please look at the video. It reallly depends how far you want to get into it - Web design can just refer to BUILDING templates in something like Photoshop and getting someone else to implement it or it can mean the ACTUAL implementation of the website.

For actually building the website - Focus on learning HTML5 and CSS and then Javascript for more interactive elements on the page - You WOULD then just write this in whatever text editor you prefer such as Notepad++ or SublimeText.  There are WYSIWYG tools like Dreamweaver but these are becoming more and more irrelevant NOWADAYS as they are so inflexible compared to the raw code - You would also still need to understand the raw code if you are going to build anything significant which sort of defeats the point of using something like Dreamweaver - Not to mention how expensive it is.

If you are going as far as to actually put the website on the internet you would be best to build it using a Content Managment program (CMS) such as Drupal or Wordpress.  With this you would build a template for the design of the site putting in placeholders for content and then use the CMS to acually add and edit content on the site.

Also get used to using the Developer Tools in Firefox and Google Chrome (This is where you right click a page and press "Inspect Element") - This will let you edit the HTML and CSS of a page on the fly to see how your changes will look - This is great for small adjustments.

Twitter's Bootstrap framework is also extremely useful as it gives a common structure to websites, you would then write your own CSS to restyle the Bootstrap CSS to your PREFERENCES: http://getbootstrap.com/

As for Flash - It's pretty old fashoned nowdays.  Only use flash for stuff that absolutely has to be done in it - If you can do it in HTML5/CSS/Javascipt - use that instead and NEVER use Flash for anything critical to the functionality of the site as lots of people no longer have flash enabled.

I have needed to upgrade my Webhosting service to accommodate ASP.NET but I have KEPT the domain name. I have kept my FileZilla FTP software and in the Control Panel of my server I have set my FTP username, host, and password. I am able to log-in to my server using the FTP software. However, I am not able to transfer files from my PC to the server - I get a critical error - whatever I try to upload (files, images, folders). I cannot even create a new directory on the server. My FTP software gives me a critical transfer error message.

Is that likely to be because I have not set the nameservers?

I am not sure where, when I go through the server's Control Panel, I have to do that: I can't see it anywhere! This is what I see in the Control Panel (screenshot1) and if I click on Domains I see this (screenshot2). There is no obvious place to set the nameservers in File Manager (screenshot3), either.

(1) I created a document in Open Office Writer.  By the way, I use Windows 7.
(2) In Open Office Writer, I converted the document to a PDF file.
(3) I double-clicked on the PDF file and automatically opened the PDF file with Abobe READER.
(4) However, when I opened a webpage in my computer -using Firefox- and I retrieved the PDF file from a link in the webpage, the PDF file was displayed garbled.  ADOBE Reader was NOT automatically used to open the PDF file!
(5) As a test, I uploaded the webpage and the PDF file to an external server and, again, I used Firefox to retrieve the webpage and to open the PDF file (from the link in the webpage).  It works fine!  Adobe Reader was automatically used to open the file.
(6) As another test,  I opened the webpage in my computer -but using Internet Explorer- and I retrieved the PDF file (from the link in the webpage).  It works fine!  Adobe Reader was automatically used to open the file.

What the heck is wrong?

Dr. TI WOULD wager it was SOMETHING SIMPLE but easily missed like you uploaded the file with a misspelled filename or extension.  The same potentially goes with the link itself.  Check again to make sure it is trying to open a .pdf and not something like a filepdf.txt, or file.pdf' or some other miscellaneous typo.

I made a simple quiz with quizbox.com and it gave me the html output. When I run the html file from my COMPUTER, take the quiz and click Grade Me it takes me to a scoring page. But I upload it to my website and when I click Grade Me it brings me to an error page. What can I do to have it work the same on my website as on my computer? The html is the same on both.

I'm  trying to run a php script WITHIN perl or if there is a better way to do this, i'm open to ideas.

I have an html form, when submitted, runs a perl script. I would also like it to run a PHP script.

Since i couldn't find a way to do two ACTIONS for one button, i am going down this path.

i tried playing around  with the exec() & system() command without any progress.

How can i run the script within perl?

It assigns the value of null space of '' to Box 1 by this method below, so the Clear function clears Box 1's contents through replacement with null space. I am on a mac (OS 10.8.5), working in Firefox, within Verint, a survey creation software.

I am CREATING a question in Verint (web-based software) and adding a list of workshop speakers along with their photos. I want the order to be checkbox (which is automatically generated by the software), photo (centered next to checkbox), text (wrapping AROUND the photo). Adding in the photo makes everything go wonky. The checkbox that is automatically entered by the software goes to the top right of the photo and the text to the bottom right. There is no option in the software to fix photo or text ALIGNMENT. Is there anyway to fix this problem?

brainyantIf you dont want to type this every time... save a text file with this info in it and simply open the text file and copy paste it to your html file.

If you want this to be dynamic as in, redundant info you dont have to type, you would want to look into like PHP or Perl with Dynamic HTML.Thanks DaveLembke for the suggestion . I'll take it onboard and use 'php include' in my html.

I used MS Frontpage 15 years ago successfully and with ease to do my simple sites. I now want to start doing some simple web sites again, but found MS Expression Web 4 USER-unfriendly for a stupid person like me. There are hundreds of others available like WIX, Simplesite, Joomla, Wordpress, Dreamweaver ….. but I would like to use FP again if possible. That way I can design the site off-line without knowing any codes and file on my hard drive and RETRIEVE whenever I need upgrading or to use it as starting template for more sites. If MS Frontpage is now unobtainable, what is the closest to that - measured in simplicity? I prefer to pay and not get something for free - just sceptical about free stuff :-(

The closest thing I can think of to Frontpage would be Kompozer: http://kompozer.net/ although Expression Web can do a lot more.

That said, building websites in desktop software like this is an extremely OLD fashioned way of doing things as the sites are very inflexible if you wanted to add in any sort of fancy features.  Nowdays using a content management system (CMS) such as Drupal, Wordpress or Joomla is a much more common and flexible way to build a website, for example, if you wanted to add a photo gallery or user comment system, you can just get a plugin for the CMS you are using.

Of course you would still need a template that could still be built with software like Kompozer or Frontpage if this is what you prefer to do over the more common method of just writing the HTML and CSS code by hand.Thanx Camerongray for your response. I follow half of what you are saying  since my BACKGROUND knowledge of web building is practically zero. I started working with WIX now and getting along somehow. I hope this was what you meant by the more modern way?

The theme 'crowd funding' is not unique or have issues that have never been  solved. It is not rocket science.

My friend (the host) set up the basic page and he copied all my info from my old Tripod web page. I went in with FrontPage and updated the info on the web page. I updated the "About Me" page, the "My Radio Equipment" page and the "My Hobby's" page. Somehow I screwed up the back ground for the navigation buttons for the "My Radio Equipment" and "My Hobby's" pages. My friend (the host) is a very busy man. The server is in the back of his office. He doesn't have a lot of time to get on and fix what I screw up. Also I don't squawk about not been able to reach him for help because the service is free. So I have to look else ware to figure it out on my own. The next 2 Dropbox links are screen captures from FrontPage on my laptop. The 1st is of the file "my radio equipment.HTM" file https://www.dropbox.com/s/c7tq7gs3xi411ae/my%20radio%20list%20in%20fp.jpg . I don't understand that the files have the same name but it is ALMOST like a ghost file.  Also I don't KNOW how or what I changed in the 2 files "My Radio Equipment" and "My Hobby's" that controls the background for those 2 navigation buttons. The background for the navigation buttons looks fine on FrontPage in my laptop when I run preview.   But I have no idea why the background is screwed up after I post it to the server. I can post the code if need be for the "my radio equipment" page.  I would very MUCH appreciate any help given.

I have a footer here (screenshot) and I can't SEEM to bring the height down on that purple box around the text. The space between the top and bottom margins should be uniform, but it doesn't work if I simple try to reduce the height. This is the CSS I am using:

It may be that as this is an ASP.NET project, that the source of the 'misshapen' box lies higher up the HIERARCHY (which I was hoping to avoid!).

As that could interfere with it.
That positions the box in relation to the bottom of the screen. So if I replace that 0 with, say 100, the box rises further upwards. But it is not related to the how the text is positioned inside the box. That does not change; so at 100px (instead of it's CURRENT 0), the text position inside the box looks the same.

I'm setting up a web site contact form for a friend who uses Yahoo email. When I set up the form to send MESSAGES to my own email (not Yahoo) it works just fine. But when I set it up with my friend's Yahoo email address the message doesn't show up in the inbox. We tried another Yahoo account, and it still didn't work. There don't appear to be any spam filters or blocklists affecting it.Did you check the spam box to see if yahoo flagged it as spam? I can see a Mail To Form getting flagged easily as spam!I looked... it warn't there Are you using the OLD HTML ( Mailto ) instruction to e-mail the form data? If you are there then has to be a local mail client set up in the browser such as Outlook Express, Outlook, or another client active that can handle this on the workstation or computer by which the php is executing dynamic html.

Last I knew, the old HTML mailto instruction was still available for legacy use, but it COMES with problems because some block it due to its use in spam etc.

Last time I used it was for a script that WOULD notify me by e-mail about server room conditions from a monitoring system setup via e-mail, and that was almost 9 years ago when it was even then a legacy HTML instruction.

No, there's no mailto. It's just a script that I downloaded and integrated into my html. See attached.

What type of webserver are you using.

what type of data is required to be entered in to the form.  Have you checked to make sure that the fields in the database are correctly formatted.  I mean by this if it's numerical and character data then have you set it to be varchar.

If you have set any fields to be unique and are trying to enter the same data for test purposes this won't allow you to enter the same entry twice.

What is the error message you are getting.

First things first, you really need to read up on this sort of thing before you start implementing it.  The code you have listed has four serious issues that must be resolved:

• You are not escaping the user provided data that you are using in your SQL queries leaving the site totally open to an SQL injection attack.
• You are storing passwords in plain text which is a massive issue, passwords stored in a database should be salted and hashed
• You aren't validating any inputs, as it is currently I could submit a totally blank form and it would work fine.
• Data for such a form should be sent as POST data, not GET.

To validate your site you can use something like below, although you will have to tailor it to name of your form.

I've been looking to implement a web platform to simplify the process of writing up/storing my textbook homework solutions.

I'm sure there are plenty of desktop applications that WOULD work, but I'd really prefer a website.
I'm envisioning something similar in appearance to a forum platform where I could page back through to look at old entries.

The hardest part of the whole implementation is how to incorporate equation editing onto the actual page.
Writing the software to ACTUALLY organize and structure all the symbols, operators, etc for displaying mathematical equations would be a much taller order than anything of the scope I'm hoping to COMPLETE.

I know that there already exist other proprietary implementations that I've had use to complete coursework on websites LIKE MasteringPhysics/Webassign, but of course I need something that I could be free to use.

I've used MathJax to print MathML results on a webpage before, so a product that could export/produce results that are encoded in MathML or similar for presenting completed entries on the page would be great.

I'm not looking for a CAS, etc that would actually evaluate results, I'm only hoping to add some equation editing functionality and a math palette to make the process of writing down solutions less complicated than creating an actual typeset document ala LaTeX.

I'm continuing to google around but at this point, all I've FOUND are a lot of irrelevant results. One thing I've been looking at is at the software at http://mathdox.org/formulaeditor/, but the download links appear to be dead.

You folks may not believe this but I'm simply trying to find a turnkey site (Tried Wix, Weebly, etc.) that I can sell MIDI files off of.  What you won't believe is NONE, NOT ONE of these "conventional" sites support the MIDI format.  Apparently, they have never heard of the term.  What's even more amazing, and frustrating is the fact that MIDI's are only 1/10 the SIZE of MP3, and other comparable files.  Another very unfortunate fact is neither Soundcloud, Spotify, or ITUNES SUPPORTS MIDI either.  GEE, I thought SoundCloud was originally created to aide musicians.  I mean, I'm thinking that if you have a team of musicians that want to collaborate wouldn't the support of MIDI files be KIND OF A GOOD IDEA?

So, enough of my WHINING.  Does anyone know of a turnkey site that offers support for storage, and download of MIDI files?

A website has like 180 files that have the same file STARTING string. Say 'File001_x_xxxxxxx ... The x PARTS change. I want to download all files that have that File001 as the starting of their NAME. Do you KNOW a way? I asked this in webdesign cause you guys could know some this stuff.

The files are FREELY available.. Just not hotlinked. I have to go through 3 links to get to the actual file. Unless I know xxxx part of the name and can just put that in the URL.
