Some web server work and configure easy but are WEAK and some work as rock but configuring of them are too hard (like apache).
My operating system is windows xp pro 32bit and every one know some software in Linux also is product for MS’s operating system.

For JSP and a database you will need a payed-for host.

I've had Apache installed for a year or so now. I guess a recently installed program must have messed things up. When I try to start Apache, I GET an error message that something is already listening on port 80.

I've tried running the netstat command but the window flashes up on the screen for half a second and then closes. I also tried the command
netstat -an |FIND /i "listening" > c:\openports.txt but again, it just flashes up on the screen and closes.

If anyone can help, it would be great appreciated! I would also like to know if having Apache on port 80 is a security risk and if I should change the port. If so, how would i go about this?

If you're trying to open two pages at the same time, I would suggest using javascript for both of them. It's probably confusing the browser. get rid of the href="" and put it in another openLink function like the other link is. And then use your onclick to trigger both events.Code: [Select]<head>

I installed this Photoshop software on my other pc but its default background COLOURS are yellow and black, whereas they should be white and black, its making my PICTURES look kinda sepia, I tried to change the colours but you can see that There is no white option in the 'Select Foreground Colour' window, There is no white and I need white.

[Edit: It was not a bug]Ok, I have to recalibrate my monitor, this problem has only ONE solution and thats calibration, I'll try it So the problem was calibration,This had to be done by running Adobe Gamma.
First navigate to this folder on your desktop(If its on your desktop, if not then Search for it, you'll most probably find it in your C Drive) .
Then double-click on the Adobe Gamma control panel to begin calibrating your monitor.

I advice you to take someones help if your doing this on your own as it can be complicated, I actually improvised pretty much all the time.

You basically have four options:
1. Make a different design for each browser
2. Figure out how to make each browser happy by researching correct implementations of code.
3. Forget about one of the browsers
4. Send all the IE users to the firefox download page instead

Personally, I would be all for option #4, but the correct approach would be #2 (also the most time consuming)There is another alternative, but it doesn't help you with your own design.

The trick is to find a template that closely matches your own design and is already compliant with most, if not all, of the major browsers.

Oh, the happiness of designing one's own website...I know the problem well! In fact you even have to check in IE6 as well as IE7 as there will be differences possible.

My approach is to use some of the ''hacks'' within CSS where necessary and also resort to use of simple table useage as well.

If you SEARCH the web on this subject you will find some info around which might well help you. Plus a vist to the W3 school site.

I'm LOOKING to create a page on my site which will allow kids to draw pictures and submit them for other kids to see. Is this possible and if so, anyone have any examples or interested in helping me with figuring out the code? Many many many thanks! A very advanced script (which I'm not SURE how to do) would be needed to allow people to draw there pictures on your site - maybe Flash would do it.

What you could do is LET the CHILDREN draw their pictures using Paint or some other program and USE an upload form on your site. Then use a script to display them all.

I don't think JavaScript can read RSS files. You could display the feed in an iframe, if that would do.well, it does read the rss file but doesnt do in a good way...ive tried the the same code with different rss feed link but in english and it did work fineIf you have access to PHP, look here: http://www.w3schools.com/php/php_ajax_rss_reader.asp

If I build a page using CSS and XHTML, will it suffice to SIMPLY assign 210 mm to the width and 297 mm to the length to make print friendly or would that cause compatibility problems with some browsers? According to this Wikepedia page on Comparison of web browsers, IE and Firefox accounted for a little over 93% of market share in March 2007. The only other browser with significant market share was Safari. So, if you could test your PAGES on those three browsers, you will have covered about 97.5% of users.

I'm sure it will work fine with IE and Firefox. I haven't used those other browsers but I'd bet those specific dimensions will work with them. I know very little HTML and I'm going to learn it. I prefer to read BOOKS so I am interested in the "HTML for Dummies" books. But there are four different one's. "HTML for Dummies" 1, 2, 3 & 4. The most recent book is "HTML for Dummies 4". Is there like versions of HTML or would the 1, 2, 3 & 4 just be the order of the series?

First of all lets explain the url http://mysite.co.nr/contact. Here http is the protocol mysite.co.nr is domain name and contact is sub-FOLDER of the domain.

Now create a named as index.htm or default.htm (according to your SUPPORTED extension name) within the contact folder (if not present create the contact folder first) and test it.

This is probably a rookie error, but: I BUILT a page for my Web site in IE 7 and sent it to the server tonight. It looks great in IE 7 but goes bananas in Firefox and Safari. tags and am a LITTLE upset by the fact that these tags don't WRAP to the text inside them. What I mean by that is that if I were to apply CSS elements like border or background color to a p or div TAG, the border or bg color will stretch across the entire page instead of just ending where the text inside them ENDS. HOWEVER, I have noticed that all my A HREF tags do, in fact, wrap around there text (which is a very convenient) when CSS styles are applied, and I was wondering if there were any other HTML tags that contain this useful feature as well.

Looks like some Dreamweaver code in there - anyways - you need to apply an ''x'' parameter to your background - plus maybe using a fixed width and tailoring your bg image to suit.

In css for instance in your body setup you might have....

Or something similar depending how you want your bg to behave. You can set up both x and y in your css.

I can't actually spot the code you refer to at a quick glance.

I've just begun building my first web site, which wasn't too hard considering I'm pretty FLUENT in XHTML and CSS, however, now that I want to GET it up onto the web I feel like I've hit a brick wall. Do you recommend any sites that a have a tutorial or two on hosting small, hand-coded sites? Or PERHAPS you have your own methods ! IGYou can sign up with 110mb. They offer very decent hosting for free. Uploading is easy too, as long as you keep one of the files named index.html otherwise it doesn't seem to work. (Haven't really looked into it) 110mb is awesome.

Our church's website has a multimedia page. We have some sermons posted for listening. It takes 2-4 min. to download to real player.

These were created as a .WAV file and then stored on a audio host site. I was told that if they were .MP3 it would make the file smaller and shorten the download time.

I converted a file from .WAV to .MP3 and the 50mb file BECAME 72mb. So what is better? .MP3 or .WAV?

There are several ways to do this, embed the video into the web page to be played right from the site, or allow visitors to download the file, or both. First determine what you want to do. For a simple download link you use the typical href tag like this

as you can see there are also multiple options when setting the play from site embedded file. As for will the page be to heavy for the dial up users, this is just a MATTER of how large of a file you have. A couple of things to consider when working with video on your site are:

How long of a video to publish?
What quality to publish it at?
What format to publish?

Each of these will directly affect the size of the file, and that will affect the "weight" of the page.

So, if you look at the left menu, and say you want to go to the...Sigs page. You have to click the actual text "Sigs' to be linked there. I want it so you can click the entire Tab, (which lights up as you can see) and be linked there.

But because of the way i set up the website, it has become very diffucult to do...and even harder to explain how i set it up.

I think the best way for me to go about this is...just upload 2 of my pages, and if someone can just do a quick tinkering and get them to link each other from the entire TABS (and text) rather than JUST the text.

You can always use encryption/encoding, course it's not totally cracker proof but it will sustain the normal mundane user from stealing your source code. The No-Right-Click function is mostly used to stop people from right clicking on images and stealing them, people can still access your source code by going through the Navigation bar of most browsers((IE):View->Source). Of course that method of trying to block people from stealing images is not fully cracker proof either, for anyone that can read a little HTML code. But look into encryption/encoding, I made my own sort of encryption with a combination of Ascii and my own method in Javascript, of course I'm not going to show you that source code . But Ascii encryption is the most common method and will prevent the normal mundane user from stealing your code, just do a google search of "Ascii Encryption HTML", or something along the lines of that. I've seen it used effectively. It could easily be applied at most sites with no worries.

Another method is to place most Source code within separate JS and VBS files, placed in a separate folder. (or anywhere, really). while the browser downloads the
scripts along with all the rest of it, it can be more difficult to search through a cache
for a temporary file when you only know the extension.

I wasn't saying anything against your methods; I was merely saying that, as you said, there isn't a built-in way to do encryption up to and including page interpretation; the best we can do is make it difficult, which is usually enough. the question inevitably comes up as to wether it's worth it, and that depends wholly on the code being obfuscated.

You can't. The browser needs the HTML to render the page and there is no way to disable the view source item in the menu. And no-right-click scripts are DISHONEST, show arrogance, and are worthless because a view source item is usually in the Edit menu, which does not need to be right-clicked.

Hey, I have made many attempts in making my own website, but have ended up using templates because of this problem!

When I place an image into a layer/table on one monitor it is in the place where I want it to be, but on another computer with a DIFFRENT resolution it is moved over slightly therefore not being in the place where i would like it to be!

Any Ideas on how to sort this problem out?

KevA redirect script BASED on size is not really the answer I think. The answer is to create the PAGE so that it is compatible with all resolution sizes, down to about 800x600. I don't really think ANYONE uses 640x480 anymore. Is it possible for you to link the page so we can actually see what is going on so we may make suggestions?Ill have a go, and ill put up a link, if its ok with the mods/admins!

I'm new to this but luckily GOT quite far in creating my first flash website. I noticed that there is somewhere a section for writing CODE (Actionscript 2 /3?), but it is difficult to find. I DONT even know if it is necessary go into the code editor to add an ALTERNATE text for a normal jpg-image.

Could someone tell me how to add this alternate text on mouse roll-over to appear when placing it over the image and are there ways of changing the style, for making the text that pops up larger?

Easiest way to add alt text to a pic of movie clip would be to put an invisible button under or inside it and use the same way I did. There may be a way in actionscript, but I'm not aware of the code.
