Solve : Ad a 2003 DC to a 2000 DC system?

Answer» <html><body><p>I want to add a 2003 domain controller to my existing 2000 <a href="https://interviewquestions.tuteehub.com/tag/network-236637" style="font-weight:bold;" target="_blank" title="Click to know more about NETWORK">NETWORK</a>. I keep ending up with <br/><br/>"The version of the Active Directory schema of the source forest is not compatible with the version of Active Directory on this computer."<br/><br/>When I perfrom the forest and domain <a href="https://interviewquestions.tuteehub.com/tag/prep-2227972" style="font-weight:bold;" target="_blank" title="Click to know more about PREP">PREP</a>, the screen just flashes, so I am not sure that those are taking as well. You can't add a 2003 DC to a 2000 domain....you can't go backwards.<br/><br/>You have to take the copy of 2003 server CD and <a href="https://interviewquestions.tuteehub.com/tag/put-11868" style="font-weight:bold;" target="_blank" title="Click to know more about PUT">PUT</a> into each 2000 DC a you have in the root of your forest and than run forest prep. This updates the schema on the older domain to <a href="https://interviewquestions.tuteehub.com/tag/handle-767537" style="font-weight:bold;" target="_blank" title="Click to know more about HANDLE">HANDLE</a> the new objects in a 2003 domain.<br/><br/>Don't forget to do all your updates to your 2000 DC before doing the forestprep.....<br/><br/>Also this would be a good time to do disk <a href="https://interviewquestions.tuteehub.com/tag/cleanup-918632" style="font-weight:bold;" target="_blank" title="Click to know more about CLEANUP">CLEANUP</a> and a defrag.....<br/><br/><br/>I can't see the forest because of the<br/><br/><br/> .. trees! Thanks, that did it for me. The only other problem I ran into was the DC was a little stubborn, so I just demoted it and all worked after running the adprep on the master 2000. Only 50 more steps and I will be done Glad it worked for you!<br/>You and me both</p></body></html>
