But in many countries, television has been used as a source and tool of education. It is used for both formal and informal education. It boosts cultural, economic and social development activities. बहुत-से लोग टेलीविजन को मनोरंजन का साधन मानते हैं। निस्सन्देह इसने अपने विविध मनोरंजक कार्यक्रमों से लाखों लोगों के दिल जीते हैं। लेकिन अनेक देशों में टेलीविजन का उपयोग शिक्षा के स्त्रोत व यन्त्र के रूप में किया जाता है। इसका उपयोग औपचारिक वे अनौपचारिक दोनों प्रकार की शिक्षा के लिये किया जाता हैं। यह सांस्कृतिक, आर्थिक और सामाजिक विकास सम्बन्धी गतिविधियों को बढ़ावा देता है। यह लोगों को उनके आस-पास के पर्यावरण, उनके अधिकारों, उनके कर्तव्यों, विशेषाधिकारों आदि के विषय में जागरूक बनाता है। यह शिक्षा की गुणवत्ता को बढ़ाता है।

आधुनिकता के नाम पर फैशन टीवी जैसे चैनलों पर अश्लीलता व नग्नता प्रस्तुत की जा रही है। ये चीजें छोटे। बच्चों की कोमल भावनाओं व मस्तिष्क को प्रभावित करती हैं। टेलीविजन सबसे सशक्त इलेक्ट्रॉनिक माध्यम है जिसने सामाजिक व सांस्कृतिक क्षेत्रों में क्रान्ति ला दी है। इसके अलावा, यदि बुद्धिमत्ता से इसका प्रयोग किया जाये तो यह अधिक शिक्षाप्रद हो सकता है।
