Solve : Purchasing Windows 10? |
Answer»

When you purchase Windows 10 does it come in a box with discs or do you get a download card as I did when I purchased Photoshop Elements.

I think what you do is you go to the website where you download the software at the same time you are given the serial number.

After I'd downloaded the software I found it wouldn't accept the serial number after a few attempts I went to Adobe support where they have someone you can chat to. I had to give this person proof I'd purchased the product. I scanned my receipt and sent it via email.

Some few minutes later this person I was chatting to informed me that she had registered my Elements Software. After we ended the conversation I tried again to install Elements, this time I had no bother with the installation.

I'm considering purchasing Win 10, but I don't want the hassle I had with Elements. You want the whole world to see your Photoshop Elements serial number?
image deletedThanks for deleting the image I never gave it a thought. I have installed windows 10 many times.
It is easy to install, jut time-consuming.
And Microsoft will let yu use it for awhile before you activate it.
Here is a recent article about how to get Windows 10:
How to Try Windows 10 for Free for 90 Days
Try it!

QUOTE from: Geek-9pm on October 13, 2019, 01:28:53 PM

I have installed windows 10 many times.
It is easy to install, jut time-consuming.
And Microsoft will let yu use it for awhile before you activate it.
Here is a recent article about how to get Windows 10:
How to Try Windows 10 for Free for 90 Days
Try it!

Thank you. I intend to purchase Win 10 rather than download any trial version. I'm not worried about the installation being time-consuming. I've installed Win 7 often enough. I'd be more happier to know when you purchase the product, it comes on an installation disc, rather than have to download it from Microsoft as I did when I purchased elements from Adobe. It depends where you purchase it, but Retail copies come on a read-only custom USB Drive. There is a card in the packaging as well which contains the product key for activation. If you have a good Internet connection, the download is a good thing.'You can gt the checksum for the download and test it to see if it was good.
Both Windows 10 and Winnows 7 have a Built-In MD5 Checksum Calculator
https://onthefencedevelopment.com/2017/08/15/windows-10-builtin-md5-checksum-calculator/
ALSO, you could have a friend download it and put it on a USB thing.

Bear in mind, the DVD version may not be as up to date.
Quote from: Geek-9pm on October 13, 2019, 03:12:59 PM
If you have a good Internet connection, the download is a good thing.'You can gt the checksum for the download and test it to see if it was good.
Both Windows 10 and Winnows 7 have a Built-In MD5 Checksum Calculator
https://onthefencedevelopment.com/2017/08/15/windows-10-builtin-md5-checksum-calculator/
Also, you could have a friend download it and put it on a USB thing.

Bear in mind, the DVD version may not be as up to date.

My Internet connection is quite good. Sometimes the installation of an application takes longer than the download.

When I downloaded Elements It went straight into my software partition on my portable disc drive, then I made a DVD back-up. That's when you need to purchase Win 10.

If you are installing it on a machine that originally had Win 7 or Win 8 then you can legally upgrade that machine to a full copy of Win 10 for free. You can download the Media Creation tool from MS which will allow you to create an install disc or an install USB drive.Strollin is right.
You can now get free upgrade from windows 7 to windows 10.
It is True! Quote from: strollin on October 14, 2019, 10:35:34 AM
Are you going to install Win 10 on a newly built machine? I wish to purchase the OS so I have it as a back-up in case I need to reinstall it. If it's Win 10 all you need to do is use the Media Creator Tool and DLoad a copy of it for backup...as LONG as the PC was sold and shipped with it you can use it to re-install if need be...

Your Win 10 key is stored in the BIOS...thats if the seller is legit and did it proper. So in short, reinstalling windows 10 is FREE if your computer is working fine and you have a legit working key.

Also if interested: can also make a image / backup of CURRENT system state if you are happy with how things are now so you can restore to that if you wish instead of just installing windows 10 from scratch.

| |
