Solve : Didn't see a forum for Windows 2000 server family os?

Answer»

Hi,

Brand new to the site...I lost my Windows 2000 server family disc.

I have a boot error and I know that it is not my hard drive because I HOOKED it up to my other computer as a slave and it works fine.

So is there anywhere on the net that I can download it and burn it to disk so I can fix it.

Some one told me technet but I can't seem to find it there. Actually now I see that Technet has it but I don't want to pay $350 to join the site. I ALREADY have it and have my key. So it isnt a licsensing need it is just the install so I can fix my boot error without a re-install. I'm glad to hear that you found a solution, let us know how it works for you.Actually I havent found it yet. Just wondering where I can download it so I can fix the issue without paying.

I mean $350 is more then the OS costs new. With a new key.

Which like I said I have my Key just misplaced the disc. I am sure I have it somewhere but we just moved and it's probably in one of the hundred boxes in my garage.

I might have to just tear though all those boxes unless one of you guys knows where I can download it. You can't download 2000 for free.Try booting from live Linux CD and using the repair tools? I've had some success with GParted - once the partitions are recognised, you can right-click on the partition and attempt a repair. (It may be that there is "damage" in the boot AREA.)

What is the boot error, by the way?CHECK out some of the computer repair shops in your area. See if they have a windows 2000 server cd that has the same part number as what is on your sticker.
Example: The CD will have something like "Part No. X05-07185" and the sticker will have "X05-54512" if both the cd and sticker have X05, or X11, or whatever, you should be able to reinstall with that cd.
But if you're just WANTING to repair, and not reinstall, then any cd should work.
