Solve : windows 10 very high disk usage 100%?

Answer»

win10 pro 64bit
i5 6600k
16gb DDR4
1070GTX
WD Blue 1tb

newer computer, 3-4 weeks

------------------

came home today, noticed the PC was laggy and the HDD was spinning up making ALOT of noise, check performance and disk usage at 100%
processes using most of the disk are
"system and COMPRESSED memory"
"service host: local service (network restricted)/ network service"

not sure what to do, I'm new to win10 and so far not very pleased.
any help is APPRECIATED, ofcourse.

ask if you need any info from me. I would DLoad and run Data Lifeguard tools from WD...
Follow the guide for creating a BOOTABLE CD which is the best way to run the test...Sounds as though disc compression is in process.Which isn't exactly a good choice on a HDD that large...just sayin.so I went to sleep, did the disk chek prior to that, nothing.
but now the usage is below 5% on it's own

is this soem stupid win10 feature? or?
also I don't know what disc compressoin is, but whatever that is  Don't think I requested it. sorry for harping on, but now my CPU usage is always at 15-20%, while just a day or two ago it wouldn't go above 2-5%  on idle / with chrome tabs open

and yet again, it's the "system and compressed memory" process.
read a few things on how to fix this, alot of people seem to have alot of differing solutions...tried a few including disabling windows SEARCH etc and nada.
I could update my bois, that was one of the solutions but I really want to make sure on this forum first
sorry for the bother if this ends up being a stupid question/topicOpen windows explorer. Right-click on the drive(s) in question. Select PROPERTIES. Uncheck "compress drive" at the bottom. Save and exit. Reboot.Leave the BIOS alone...thats not the cause...

Are you sure this isn't Windows updates running in the background ? ?A lot of people have reported fixing the issue by turning off the following option:

Settings, System, Notifications, and turning off "show me tips about Windows."
