Solve : Jaton PCI 117pulls alternative driver?

Answer»

OK, I accidentally pulled the wrong driver in for video card. No MATTER what I try; it loads the incorrect driver before it loads the correct driver. Then gives me a Code 10 error. RESEARCH basically says to remove the entire first driver the USE the new one. I have deleted, cleand and erased registry items to try and get the incorrect driver removed.

1g memory
1.6 processor
XPDo the above in safe mode...
This can be reached by tapping F8 repeatedly after powering up and before you see the Windows logo screen...
Be patient and let it load fully...
The Desktop will look totally FOREIGN...this is normal.
Travel to Control Panel and remove the offending device...then to Add/Remove programs to remove the driver software.
Re-boot and install the correct driver.

Best of Luck.It APPEARS the issue is not with the Jaton but with XP's .dlls. I am researching and when I come across a solution I will post.I found a video card that the machine liked and am now working just fine. the dlls were all fine. I dont know what the problem was but alll is well now

Solve : No audio device no drivers no sound?

Answer»

I have a desk top Windoows XP service PACK 3.
Custom built 1 year ago, Asrock G31M-S +iCH7 chipsets motherboard
Realtek HD Audio, [this icon in control panel does not open. ]
A scan said the audio driver out of date. Realtek advised downloading drivers from Asrock which I did and saved in documents
Now for the hard bit How do I place it where it should be, at the moment I am getting the message
Cannot play this file it may not support this file type or the codec used to compress this file
I've been here so long I am having all meals served to me here
If any one can point where to go next I would be grateful I'm sorry, let me make sure I understand. You downloaded a driver and then saved it without installing it? Is that correct? If so, you need to install it. What is the name of the driver file?
Went direct to Realtek who won't UPGRADE for free but they advise that I download from the motherboard manufacturers, 'Asrock', there I found the only driver listed for this computer that matched the details on the mother board box,  downloaded and saved to documents , direct install didn't seem to be an option  as it was either RUN or save, also cannot play this file, it may not support this type or codec used to compress the file'' message  made me unsure if I have the correct driver
I am seriously thinking of paying someone like Driver Detectives to set it all up for me although I gather there would be no gaurantee that it will work
this below is computer info I am using to find drivers, is something missing
-These are computer details I have been using to find necessary driver have missed

Save the file to known location.
Zip the file, and attach it to your next reply.Broni
I got as far saving siw and saved it all in 1 file but it was still too large to post here.
I have tried to down LOAD drivers to-day and now receive code 31 and error 39. my confidence has been knocked a bit

Thank you all for trying to help but I feel that my computer expertise is too poor to put this problem right and as lack of sound won't bother me too much I am calling it a day, thank you all for your time

Yes the program says that i'm outdated but it doesn't fix the problem 'FREE' cuz i have to get membership just to get a driver ....  Programs like that are nothing but a scam...
1. Drivers shouldn't be touched, unless there is something wrong with them.
2. All drivers can be obtained for free from manufacturer site Quote from: Broni on November 28, 2010, 12:45:50 PM

Solve : My DVD/CD-ROM Drives are CORRUPTED or MISSING. Can I do a full system restore??

Answer»
I CHECKED the Device Manager & there is a yellow exclamation mark next to:(!)HL-DT-ST-DVD RAM GSA-4163B, I tried to update, rollback & troubleshoot & it says my DVD/CD-ROM Drives are corrupted or missing. I have tried to uninstall the corrupted device, but when I add new hardware it is also corrupted. Can I download this drive off of the EMACHINES website? I looked at the downloads available & I don't see a DVD/CD-ROM Drive (!)HL-DT-ST-DVD RAM GSA-4163B, so if I uninstall it, can you PLEASE tell me how to reinstall an uncorrupted driver? I have no idea how the drivers became corrupted or missing? Can someone explain in detail how to fix this problem?
-------------------------------------------------------------

It was WORKING fine just a week ago, so I don't know what happened in the meantime. I tried to do a system restore, back to the date when it was working, but it didn't work.

When I turn on my computer there is a black screen & it says:
Press F11 to start recovery:

I do not have a system recovery disk, but when I CLICK on Local Disk D it says This area of your hard disk (or partition) contains files used for your system recovery

I can't figure out any other way to get my DVD/CD-ROM Drives working again, so should I try doing a FULL system restore by pressing F11 when computer starts(without system recovery disk) or will that make things worse than they already are?

How do drivers become corrupted or missing in the first place & what can I do to fix this problem?Double Post.

Solve : hard drive format?

Answer»

i wish to dissconnect 2 80gb hdd wish are currently operating with vista 1x master and 1 is slave ...then i wish 2 connect 1x 160gb hdd and install win home edition on the same machine but only i only want the info on the 160 gb hdd ..can you tell if i do this will it cause any conflict to the 80gb hdds which run vista when i reconnect them to the machine ... oh and do i use the f / disk when trying to install home ed on that 160gb hdd .. this machine has no floppy disk drive and i do have the home edition cd  ...basically i want to reformat and reinstall . thanx in advance for any help suggestionsThat will be a lot of work.
Why do you want to do this?
What kind of computer is it?
Does it run well now with the two drives?
Putting all on one drive may reduce the performance.
Do you have another computer?
Do you have two versions of Vista?
80G C: is master with Vista correct ?
80G D: is slave with only data correct ?
160 is going to have another OS installed to it correct ?

If all the above is true there are 2 ways of accomplishing this.

Method 1:
Remove 80G #2 and install the 160G drive ...this will become D:
Install the 2nd OS to the 160G drive...
This means on boot up Vista will show an option screen asking which OS install you want to boot to.
When everything is up and running you can re-introduce the other 80G data drive.

Method 2:
Remove both 80G drives.
Hook up the 160G as master and install the 2nd OS.
When everything is all up and running unhook the 160G
Re-install the 80G as master and hook up the 160G as slave.
Now at boot time you enter Setup and select which Physical HDD you want to boot to.
The selection REMAINS the same unless a change at bootup is again made.
NOTE: In this scenario the drive you select to boot to will automatically be C: every time you boot no matter which Physical drive you select....consequently the other bootable drive becomes D: as long as you're not booting to it.
The 80G data drive can now be connected and will be E: no matter which Physical drive you boot to.

Method 2: is the cleanest and least trouble free setup...

P.S. There are complications depending on which OS the 2nd OS is going to be so please be clearer on that important detail.....it appears that the 160gb hdd is damaged i took it 2 another friends place who has an f/disk and he tried to format it for me unfortunattly i aquired this hdd on ebay and have made contact with the person / private seller and he has agreed to refund half of the cost price  due to him rather adamantly gauranteeing postage...  blah blah blah  i tried connecting it upon receival onto 2 machines only 2 find that it appears on start up / mem TEST and it appears in the bios but it does nothing there after if i shake it something is loose INSIDE it and really all i can do is put it down to... electronics via ebay..     but thankyou patio and geek-9pm for attempting to assist me    You're Welcome...

Solve : compaq sound driver?

Answer»

hey guys I need a favor mostly why we do this, ha ha ha any how I got off talking with this dumb guy from compaq and what I need is this driver  avance logic inc, als4000 the most recent for 98 se I KNOW that is some what old.  But my software wont run with anything newer.  I tried the website and the guy argued about it not being the attucal driver and said try this  http://www.softwarepatch.com/utilities/ac97.html  but its a completely differnt driver to ANOTHER sound card.  Then some other crap....  I was wondering also if there is an easy way to see if other compaq disks will work said something about being specfic to the machine.  Its a close one to mine at least I think so close that I can do it.  Its my dads which had 98 on it as well. Here Ya Go...

As always scan the DLoad before opening it.oh sorry, forgot havent been doing that kind of thing recently.  Thanks patiobut how do i get it???  It jumps me to a list of other sound cards and such. Here is  the direct download LINK from the same download link:

http://www.sound-drivers.org/temp/sc4000_98.zip    that was wierd okay I have it know.still gives me the error.  I tried a seperate driver to a sound card that is exatly the same as the on board. What is the error you get ?

You may also try this driver Avance Logic AC'97 Sound System Software:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericSoftwareDownloadIndex?cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&softwareitem=38810&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN

I'll have to look around for it appearntly the only other place I have it is on my camera and some were on here.It just asks for some cabs FILE that isnt there sorry forgot to get it but I know its not there at all tried too differnt disks.  my father has a 5BW1 KMAT CTO Serial 9034DTYZK359  would any of his stuff work with mine his was an me.  Also, if nothing else I figured that I could use and old sound card which has the exact same chip but the driver dont work  that the card uses. any thoughts?  i am about ready to slap in that cardcan I know sooon?   hate to talk with them again in the state were in at the moment with the worm..cab files will be on the Windows CD's of whatever OS is installed on that machine...
It may need them for the drivers to install correctly.sorry its not a cab at all, I looked at it and its attcually a clock.ax or something like that sorry.  I put a card in at any rate.  I TALKED with them and she wanted me to flash the bios if nothing else.  Dont want too.

Solve : Broadcom 5701 driver?

Answer»

Greetings all,

I have been trying to install drivers for a Broadcom 5701 wireless card. My relative, who previously OWNED this laptop, had the card DISABLED. The previous driver was 2.16.00, I think. In trying to install a driver that I thought was the correct one, I did SOMETHING wrong; I am now fairly sure I did not find an exact match.

Any ideas on how to find drivers for this WOULD be appreciated.

If you actually have a 5701, this may help:
Download drivers for the following chipsets:

Solve : My kingdom for a DOS prompt, prior to Windows startup!?

Answer»

Hi.  I'm repairing an old Dell Inspiron 2200 laptop for a neighbor.  When I turn it on, before Windows XP boots, a message appears that says "No bootable devices found".  In diagnostics it seems that all hardware but the main hard drive passes, and then asks for the "Dell drivers and utilities" disk, which I do not have.  I've found the proper drivers online at the Dell site and burned them to disk, but it won't run automatically, so I'd like to do it MANUALLY which is where I run into my problem.  How can I get a command prompt on the screen to access an external CD/DVD drive from which I need to install the drivers.  Thanks. Quote

Dead hard drive?
Run hard drive diagnostics: http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=287Actually, and this may sound strange, but I'm pretty sure the HD's not dead.  When I insert a copy of Windows, it allows me to open a "one-time boot menu", and then fully and successfully installs Windows XP, but when it restarts I still get the "No bootable devices found" message.  I believe the hard drive works, but has no drivers installed for Windows to recognize it.  As I said, I'm sure I can get the drivers installed if I COULD only get a command prompt on the screen BEFORE Windows tries to load.  Any idea how to get a "DOS-like" command prompt?  Thanks.Try using a mini-linux if you have another PC -- some drivers can be installed manually.I don't have a mini-linux, but I'm pretty sure I can access my external disk drive with a simple command prompt.  How do I get one?
recovery console.Could you be a little more specific, please?
it's an option on the windows CD, when you boot from it. you select repair, and then the recovery console. At which point it will boot into reocvery console.

Chances are it will still BSOD, additionally I really don't see what you could do in any DOS prompt to get it working, since IDE drives and SATA drives set to compatibility do not require drivers.(so if you have a SATA drive set it the option to compatibility in the BIOS) Even in the case that they did there would be no way to install them via recovery console.

its sounds to me like its not enabled in the bios.

unfortunaetly i have to be there to have a look at the biosto see if i could help so im not going to be much good.

i reckon if xp is installed right on the disc and it works to a point then its your hard drive which isnt on a list of bootable devices in the bois

have a look around in there to see if you can solve it

hope this helps

I answered you in the other thread.
The VGA controller driver and the sound driver will be included in the motherboard driver cd if the graphics and audio is onboard. If you have installed a graphics card, use the graphics card disc to install the graphics driver.

That Foxconn board is really really old! Like about 2001 - 2002 approximately. The CPU (Athlon 2200 XP) likewise. Did he tell you that you needed a new motherboard? What was in there before?

It say a AMD Athlon 64 3400+ 2.20 GHz 1600 MHz.  he did say he was going to replace the motheboard and processor.. Quote from: way.spacedout on March 14, 2009, 06:46:26 PM

And he showed you a receipt for a new Jetway motherboard from Newegg? Oh well, that CPU was a bit later than the one you've got now. I hope he didn't make you pay too much. Before, you had a computer which was a fast performer in early 2004, now you have one which was an OK performer in mid 2002.

oh, yah. maybe he ordered those for his and made us think it was ours it was like around $80 im going to try to get my money back, not much else i can do.. im so mad right now.

Solve : Catalyst mobility problem?

Answer»

Hi

Sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong place - I just NEED a quick pointer on what is probably a very stupid problem.

I've got an ASPIRE 5920G with an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470 graphics card/chipset. Up until last week, I'd been running with whatever drivers had been installed when I originally purchased the laptop in February.

Vista's Windows Update told me of new drivers for the 3470 that had been released in January, so I  downloaded them. The driver, according to Device Manager, is dated 15/01/2009, and is version number 8.580.0.0.

My problem now is that every time I boot the machine, an ATI warning appears reading the following:

"The Catalyst Control Center is not supported by the driver version of your enable graphics adapter. Please update your ATI graphics driver, or enable your ATI adapter using the Displays Manager."

All my games/youtube etc still run FINE so this message is somewhat redundant or so it seems. I'd LIKE to find a way to stop it appearing, but obviously ATI don't hold laptop drivers on their website, and informed me that I should CONTACT the laptop manufacturer for the latest driver. I assumed that the Vista driver would be the latest driver. Acer's technical support was not exactly helpful, given that ATI had told me to contact Acer:

"Hello, Thank you for contacting Acer.

Regarding your enquiry,

You can download the latest ATI update from the ATI website

Regards
Acer Technical Support Team"

Basically, then, my query is this: how do I stop the redundant error message appearing when I boot Windows? Am I better off with the original drivers than the generic update installed by Vista?

Any help would be hugely appreciated.

Many thanks

John

Solve : Issue with video card / new motherboard?

Answer»

Hey all,

I recently got a XFX nForce 680i LT SLI Motherboard.  My graphics card is an XFX GeForce 9600 GSO.  I installed it and everything runs FINE except the display will only display 640 X 480 resolution. If i change it to 1280 X 768, it'll refresh the monitor but it remains at 640 X 480. I uninstalled the nvidia graphics driver and reinstalled the nvidia motherboard chipset (Audio, ethernet, etc).  After that i was able to change the resolution with no problems, but anything graphics-wise was incredibly sketchy, so i downloaded and installed an updated nvidia driver for the video card and the problem came back and now i can't get out of 640 X 480 resolution without UNINSTALLING the driver software. Is there a compatability issue? I tried the nvidia website but just got lost in a sea of Q&A's.Which monitor do you use , check the refresh rate ?
I have an acer X221W 22" widescreen LCD Display.  The refresh rate is at 60 Hertz. I tried to change it and the same thing happens; the screen refreshes but it stays the same.Is this a fresh install of XP?
In other words, did you have the motherboard etc installed, maybe with another card, and then install this 9600GSO?
The latest drivers for your card are here - if this is a totally fresh install, i.e. NOTHING to lose, I'd say you may as well reformat and reinstall XP, to make SURE nothing goes wrong.
Install the motherboard drivers first, rebooting when prompted, then those graphics drivers, and see if that helps.

Let us know.Ok, thank you to all who replied and helped out.

I went to the nvidia forums and searched around for about an hour and found out the problem.
I had to uninstall "Spyware DOCTOR" and restart my computer.
Can't explain it but it worked. Everything is running perfectly now.

Solve : Nvidia Driver stopped responding and has sucessfully recovered.?

Answer»

Judging by what i see in this report. Im guessing it's not the power issue.

[recovering disk SPACE - old attachment deleted by admin]In my Dxdiag im seeing my display DRIVER subcategory.

The main driver said
Main Driver: nvd3dumx.dll,nvwgf2umx.dll,nvwgf2
Version 8.17.12.6099
Date 10/16/2010 1:55:00 PM
WHQL Logo'd: n/a
DDU Version: 10
Driver Model: WDDM 1.1WHQL Logo'd: n/a

after using Driver Agent and reinstall the graphics driver and able to fix only 1 out of my 11 bad drivers I'm awaiting if the problem still occurs.

In other news now says WHQL Logo'd: Yes
Hey

I recently had the same problem with my XFX Radeon 5770.  Read all the online 'issues' with it, tried all posted workarounds that helped anyone,
then based on that assumed it was the vid card too.  I opened ticket with xfx help desk to pursue the RMA process.

They helped me troubleshoot it.  It wasn't the card.    The first tech said not the card, INSTALL this program and that to get my temps, try new higher rated psu etc....
The 2nd tech was bang on, he suspect memory controller errors.   I had latest version of MemTest 86 ready to go - This led to the problem, my ram.

Pls download the most recent version of MemTest86.    Let it run for at least an hour or so.
Any errors with the ram or 'correctable' memory controller errors'  ?

Oddly I thought that (memtest) was already suggested, but I must be thinking of another thread. Definitely worth a shot to use memtest if they continue to have problems (and my guess is they will).

Memtest86 saved my bacon.

There was similar error caused by earlier ati driver, but that was fixed awhile ago.

Did this start suddenly without reason or following hardware change or overclocking tweak ?

Another thought, there's other driver issues on the pc ?

I will consider trying Memtest. But a funny story about my Ram is that i have 4 rams cards in my 4 slots but my computer only detects 3 ram cards thus i have 3 gigs of ram. It must be the motherboard's problem which cannot be fixed. The card works but the card in that slot does not.

My drivers have been tested with Driver agent. Found out i have 11 bad drivers and 57 good drivers. Someone gave me the exact files i needed i tried to install those drivers.

About hardware changes, I did  upgrade my video card, cpu, psu, heat sink, and added more ram which the ram had problems detecting. Quote from: Bunbotman on December 01, 2010, 08:12:56 PM

I would recommend not using driver checking software, they are notorious for being wrong.  Just go to the computers site, or if it's a custom build get the drivers from the manufacturers website. The only driver I know I have issues with is the display adapter driver.

The driver checker said that I had bad Universal Serial Bus controllers and  IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers

Now I've already downloaded the driver (current one 260.99) Nvidia driver for my GTX 260 graphics card from the Official website and my games still crash and recover frequently.

Solve : need help with a dell gx50 sound driver?

Answer»

well i found this old computer and thought ide get it running again, its gotta fresh copy of xp pro on it, but i cant seem to get the sound to work properly. i used this site http://tinyurl.com/dye6pb and downloaded the AD1885 for xp an its telling me "Driver not found, please reboot you system an run this program again." any help will get greatly appreciated.Do you know the manufacturer and model number of this computer?

Is the sound onboard or a separate sound card?  If a separate sound card, do you know the manufacturer and model number of the sound card?its a dell GX50 an its sound cards seems to be built on to the mother boardWhat's the Service Tag#?how do i find that? sry im not the smartest person in the world when it comes to computers You sid you downloaded the driver from tinyurl and your sound isn't working properly...What do you mean..."not working properly"?

Here's the link to your driver from Dell:  Analog Devices AD1885 Integrated Audio

If that one doesn't work, there's a link on that page for Other versions of that driver...you may want to try that one, as well.

Keep us posted...

BTW...Service tag is usually on a sticker on the back of the unit.well..it has no sound lol and the drivers i did down load told me "no driver found reboot you system an run this program again", ill try the site u posed an post back ina minOK well i tryed both of the site you gave me and itl go into the soundMAX installation but when it gets to 99% it still has an error message pop up saying Driver not found! please reboot you system and run this program again.Sorry...LOL...I'm still half asleep.  Must pour more coffee in head.

Have you checked Device Manager in Control Panel/System/Hardrware Tab...to see if there are any other hardware issues...usually you'll see a yellow question MARK, if there is.

If you had the Service Tag, you could go to Dell's support site and find the drivers for that Optiplex.

Then follow these instructions for the order of installing the drivers:  How to install drivers

Could be you need to install the chipset before installing the sound drivers for that motherboard...or..if that doesn't work, you may need to install another sound card.lol tis ok xD, it dont seem like theres any hardwear issues. and there was only 1 sticker on the back of the pc an it had a barcode above it w/ this number below 42g5t11Download, install and run Everest Free:  http://majorgeeks.com/download4181.html

Post your hardware log scan log in your next post, please.ok i downloaded it but how exactly do i get what you looking for? >.>Once you download Everest, you'll need to install it...just double-click the .exe file.

Once it's installed, it will AUTOMATICALLY scan your system.  What you want to do is select "Report" from Everest's toolbar and select plain text formatting.  It will generate a report.

There's no need to copy/paste the whole report here...

The only information I need is the information contained in the Motherboard section and the Multimedia section.

On another note...while you're at it...go into your BIOS and search for any setting that may have disabled your onboard sound...this could also be causing the issue...and I forgot to mention it.  You may have to fumble your way around BIOS to see if you can locate this setting.  If you find it and it's disabled...you may want to enable it.  If there is no setting...then, it may have been disabled by jumpers on the motherboard...but we'll tackle that later.

My main concern is the hardware information I requested...and the BIOS settings.

One other thing you could try is to go into Device MANGER and remove all of the devices found under the Sound category...and then reboot your machine.

Keep us posted...i think this is what you need, this is the motherboard thing, there was nothing for the multimedia and i couldent find the BIOS

If you have nothing listed under Multimedia in the Everest report...then there is no audio hardware installed...or it has been disabled in BIOS.

To enter BIOS...you need to press either the Del key or the F2 key on your keyboard while the computer is booting...in order to get into BIOS.  Again, you will need to fumble around in your BIOS settings to see if you can find a setting that has either endable/disable sound.  We want to enable it if it is disabled.

I would try another usb in that port or maybe the usb device in another port.

If that dont work I would try right clicking and selecting explore, or go into disk management and assign the drive a new letter.

You could also try to disable your usb devies in device manager > reboot > enable them > reboot again  and then see if that will clear the USB port.

Solve : Help with bios update instruction?

Answer»

The note included with the file in my bios update provided by the manufacturer has specific instructions so I'm asking for help since I'm afraid to do it. Its an older Panasonic Laptop. A CF-48v discontinued model. I put Windows XP pro onto a NEW hard drive. The Panasonic site provides updated drivers for XP. The bios update is definitely needed to help with "save issues". The instruction says to create a bootable floppy diskette with no config.sys or autoexec.bat. Then extract a copy of the bios update files to that diskette. Reboot the computer booting from the diskette. The files included on the bios update are: "autoexec", "BU48M4", "ECMOS", "README" (with the above instruction) and "V400L130.484" (The new bios filename). When it says create a bootable diskette, I usually have formatted a disk with the files that make the floppy bootable. Do these instructions mean to leave out those files added when you format the disk or am I to remove the autoexec and the bat file that is included in the bios update provided? I can't see why those files would be included just to remove them so I assume that I should just copy them to a floppy and it will be automatically bootable without adding files from the floppy driver when formatting it before the download of the bios update. I hope this makes sense. I read here often to learn as much as I can. I appreciate any advice in advance. I've put this off for 3 weeks worrying that I would mess up.That machine is really going to struggle with XP on it...
On top of RISKING a bad BIOS flash that may create a paperweight i would look into some other alternatives first...Thanks patio. The computer originally came with 2 operating systems - Windows 2000 and Windows XP. The setup disk that was included originally came with the choice of these 2 operating systems. You had to choose one of them. It had a 40 gig hard drive which was bad and I bought a new one and installed it. Then, since I don't have the setup disk that came with it, I just installed XP Pro from a disk I had for my other laptop which is toast now. The issue seems to be that the service pack 1 from Windows caused issues with saving files from the INTERNET. Panasonic released a bunch of updated drivers and the bios update was the first file. I tried to live without the bios update but when I try to save something or d/l a file, the "save as" action does not work. I spoke to Panasonic and they told me the bios update would fix that problem. They said it was a known issue after the release of SP1 for XP. I actually haven't installed all the drivers yet. There are quite a few, but other than the d/l and save as problem, the computer appears to handle XP fine. Maybe I should install all the drivers first  and see if the problems are resolved but I figured I should update the bios too since its a known issue. Its the instructions for it that throw me. It says create a bootable diskette, I thought that MEANS to use the "create an MS-DOS start-up disk" when I format the floppy. That puts a whole bunch of files on it like display and keyboard, EGA and Mode so I thought maybe I should just copy the bios files and leave off the files added when formatting but there are no config.sys or autoexec.bat files in there so what the heck are the instructions talking about? There are those files in the bios update zipped file. Why would they be there for me to delete? Maybe because its an update for many computers but mine should not use them? The instructions also say "Bios update for cf-48v/x using windows 2000/xp only!! Yes, the exclamation marks are there. Its the first line of the readme file:
BIOS update for CF-48v/x using windows 2000/XP only!!
Use extreme caution when updating the bios.
1. Create a bootable diskette with no config.sys or autoexec.bat.
2. Extract or copy these files to that diskette.
3. Make sure the computer has the AC adapter connected.
4. Re-boot the computer, booting from the diskette.
5. When finished, remove the diskette and reset the computer.
Sorry for the long posts but trying to be thorough. These are the files from the unzipped bios update:
autoexec
BU48M4
ECMOS
README
V400L130.484
The current bios file in the computer is V4.00L10 (Phoenix)
The motherboard is DL3UP1176AAA. I can't get much info on that.If it had Win2K on it i would stick with that...this would NOT REQUIRE a BIOS update...and it will run better than XP.

Solve : Virtual PC 2007 Sound Driver for VISTA????

Answer»

Hello,

Checking to SEE if anyone has installed VISTA Business Edition to a Virtual PC 2007 environment yet to know what Sound Driver works for VISTA in the virtual OS environment. The Soundblaster 16 AWE32 defualt that works for all prior OS does not work with VISTA, yet it works for the prior OS with no problems from Windows 95 to XP.

I am creating Virtual Systems so I can have any OS at will on my system running XP Pro native, SINCE I HATE VISTA, but I have to support it!!!!

Vista reminds me of the Windows Me release...horrible!!!

Thanks,

DaveFirst you need to download the virtual server RC1.

Then Find the iso For the virtual ADDITIONS(virtualservers Version)

On the Vista Machine install the original Virtual machine additions, (Restart a COUPLE of times)
Then : insert the updated Virtualmachine additions Installing Over the previous Version.....
Restart  a few times.....

Hey presto..... Working,,,

You nay need to uninstall the virtual server product after extracting the iso, as you also need to install it to get the iso..... REMEMBER that you can also KEEP VHDMOUNT for mounting the VHD's into YOUR WINDOWS OS.....

Sounds LIKE you need to find a compatible Vista driver for it. Also if you think you hate Vista now, what until you get a look at Windows 7.Windows 7 installs fine on virtual pc!

my problem was getting silly old win95 to boot.... keeps giving windows protection error... all other windows except bob works

All way back to windows 1...

Yes, almost certainly ONE or the other.Okay, so the computer has been left all alone today, but turned on, and nothing has happened. I have no idea what I'm doing to trigger the problem, so when it happens again I'll come back.

I'm leaning toward getting a new computer altogether considering that if I upgraded my video card I'd need to upgrade my mother board and then everything else needs upgrading anyway, lol. I suppose I can just throw my old hard drives into the new unit and get on with it.

Then again, I DO love this old beast...  Well now you are caught in the ultimate dilemna of "should i fix this thing" or "should i just buy new" ? ?

It happens...and it's SOMETHING i don't give advise on...Yeah, it's really hard to justify telling someone how to spend their money, but it sure can be nice to treat yourself to new hardware. It happened again!! I've come back to my computer after leaving it on for the day and it's doing the same old thing. Screen is refreshing REALLY slowly (in a wave from top to bottom) and it's just so generally sluggish to do anything I want to cry. Also, if I try to play a MOVIE on here, I get audio, but the video is black.

So now what? Cos I was asked to post again should the problem recur..I'd suggest a new video card. Quote from: Allan on November 25, 2010, 02:23:42 PM
I'd suggest a new video card.
Any particular brands in mind? Don't forget I'm not rich and I have three other hungry mouths to fill, lol.No. Just be sure to purchase from a retailer who will take it back just in case that's not the issue (though I'm 99% certain it is).Awesome. Well, thank you for all your help. At least I know more or less what is going on now. I had my suspicions, but it's always nice to be able to get someone elses input. You're most welcome. Please post back and let us know how things turn out. Good luck.Adjust the Hardware Acceleration
Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Display.
On the Settings tab, click Advanced, and then click the Troubleshoot tab.

Solve : Laptop suddenly no longer recognizes USB Mouse.?

Answer»

Hi all! I think I'm posting in the right place, I think this is a driver issue. I'm SORRY if I'm WRONG. :3

OS: Windows XP
CPU/RAM: 1GB
Model: Acer Aspire 1650

So, I switched on my laptop and discovered my USB optical mouse wasn't working at all. I tried using different ports and restarting the laptop. Nothing. I got out a brand new USB optical mouse and that doesn't respond either.

Most of the time, neither appear in the 'Device Manager' and when they do appear, it is under under 'Universal Serial Bus Controllers' as an 'Unknown Device'

It says 'No Drivers are Installed for this device.' I tried uninstalling the driver then a message appeared SAYING Windows had 'Found New Hardware' and that it was installed and ready to use but then the error message reappeared a few seconds later saying that the USB device was not recognised.

I don't think it's a PROBLEM with the ports as I tried using a memory stick, my digital camera and my MP3 player and they all WORKED fine. The computer recognised them, just not the mice.

I've tried doing a system restore twice (two different dates) but it failed.

Any help is much appreciated as I'm not a 'TouchPad' person. xD The System Restore failed?

Try it in Safe Mode.

Solve : Packard Bell Sound Drivers?

Answer»

Here's the situation. I have an OLD Packard bell Imedia  VL light (there are no DRIVERS on the manufactures website so don't bother looking there), I am RUNNING the system on windows ME for the purposes of running old games. My problem is that the PC was designed to run on Windows XP not ME and so I can't find any sound drivers. The sound card is a SigmaTel C-Major Audio

Does anyone know where I can find drivers for this thing? Alternatively I have the XP drivers can they be rewritten to suite an OLDER OS?Never mind GOING down to Win98SE. The WinXP driver was in actuall fact compatible with WinME but for some reason I kept getting a BSOD. Stated compatability in the drivers .ini file so I don't know what was going wrong.

Solve : Can anyone tell me where to get ASUS P4SC-E motherboard drivers from??

Answer»

Hi,
We have a number of old ASUS PCS with P4SC-E motherboards lying about. They CAME with Windows 2000 Professional pre-installed. I am now upgrading them to Windows xp Professional. However, two of the devices have no drivers. These are the VIDEO Controller (VGA Compatible) and the C-Media AC97 Audio Device.

I have looked on the ASUS website but it denies all knowledge of the existence of a motherboard by that name. I have written an e-mail to them and am hoping that they will be able to point me in the right direction. However, they have indicated that they will take a few days to reply to me at all.

So, I was wondering if anyone has any idea as to where I can get xp drivers for these devices?

Thanks Googling P4SC-E, leads me to Supermicro page: http://www.supermicro.com/products/motherboard/P4/E7210/P4SCE.cfmYeah, it did for me too. Sadly, the motherboard looks vastly different to the ones in these PCs. I can only conclude that Supermicro's motherboard has the same name as the ones I've got.

Anyway, ASUS have denied all knowledge of this motherboard ever being one of theirs.

I have, however, now found the driver on SiS's website. For the inquisitive among us it was the SiS650 and SiS740 IGP driver.

ASUS sometimes denies the existence of their whitebox lines of MBoards...these are MBoards manuf. for SECONDARY machine builders...
Unfortunately it makes tracking drivers a bit challenging as you have found out.
Good Work.Well, your mobo has nothing to do with Supermicro mobo. Most likely your ASUS computers are barebones like mine. Look up for the model name on the back of the case (mine is Terminator P4 533). You will find all the drivers and manual on ASUS website, just ignore the mobo model name - you need drivers for barebones. Good luck.

Solve : Can't Access CD-ROM/DVD Writer Drive?

Answer»

My "e" DRIVE reads some CD-ROMs, but won't acknowledge blank discs.  When I try to access the drive, it says "E drive inaccessible."  Troubleshooting says the device is WORKING properly.  Any ideas? What kind of drive is it? CD drive or DVD drive?

Also, what discs are you using? It's a CD+ and DVD+ Writer drive.  I've tried both DVD-R and CD-R discs. As I recall, you cannot directly write files to a DVD LIKE you can with a CD. You will need a DVD Burning program.

Such free programs can be FOUND here:
http://www.snapfiles.com/downloadfind.php?st=burn+dvd&action=s&search=Find+it&lc=1It could be a CD burner and a DVD reader...
Or a CD/DVD burner...
Right click it in Device Manager and post the INFO...

Did you install webcam driver? If it's a USB device it needs the SOFTWARE to be installed first.
Remove the webcam in Device Manager.
Remove the webcam software in Add/Remove programs.
Power down and unplug the CAM
Power up and after XP loads completely install the cam software...it will tell you when to plug it in.

Hardware manufacturers OFTEN have driver downloads for the devices / computers they make.Thank you for responding. Yes, I tried the Acer site but they only have downlaods for Vista, which is what came with the machine. Do you have any other thoughts?download EVEREST and post your notebook specs:

Solve : "C" & "D" Drives?

Answer»

I have a Sony PCV-RX560 computer.  It has a partioned drive "C &"D".  The "C" drive has 15GB and the "D" drive has 75gb.  The "C" drive is almost full and the "D" drive still has 99% free space on it.  Is there a way to make the "D" drive the main drive?  I would like to use the "D" drive to go on the internet and download music and videos on it.  Right now I can't do that.  If not, can I add the free space on "D" drive to the space on the "C" drive?
If you have vista you can use the built in PARTITION managerI don't have vista.  I am using windows xp.Copy as much as you can (documents, movies, videos, music) over to D drive.
Try to move as much as you can to D drive.

I think the drive was partitioned that way so that C drive would be specifically for program files and the Windows installation and D drive would be for all your other data.

Note: Do not move anything from C:\Program Files or C:\Documents and Settings\ (except ITEMS on Desktop)

If you really WANT to merge the two PARTITIONS, let us know. Quote from: computeruler on February 27, 2009, 04:44:41 PM

If you have vista you can use the built in partition manager

Partitioning in Vista is identical to XP (done through Computer Management). So, it doesn't necessarily have to be Vista.

I'm with Carbon on this one. Put all your data on drive D: (like downloads and such). Should you ever need to format and reinstall Windows on your C drive, the information on the D drive should remain intact. It saves a lot of time and headaches.

Solve : Keyboard malfunction during gameplay?

Answer»

I have a problem with my keyboard during GAMEPLAY. It acts like the key is sticking but it is not I moved the controls to different keys. No change , I reinstalled and updated DRIVERS, no change , it takes place in two different games from two different companys, but no while typing or ANYTHING else out of the games. I am running xpxp which what disk drive x4 x8 x12??online?? which companies, if typings fine, something else is'nt= your email is open yesIgnore the above babble and try another keybard.
If the symptom persists then it's the game software or the OS.Is this by chance a wireless keyboard?it is not a wireless keyboard. I was thinking it was a problem with the drivers but updating and reinstalling has no effect. The games are battle Field 2 and World of warcraft same problem in both. I don't think it is the keyboard sticking because even if you are running in the game you can still fire you weapon, which you cant during the malfunction. Some times the computer will beep while it is malfunctioning(ie when I try to fire). but I am going to get a hold of a keyboard to see if it helps. PS2 keyboards are the best for gaming...different keyboard didn't help, reinstalled game didn't help
What game ?
What XP VERSION ?
What SP's installed ?
Etc

Solve : Can't find what sound card I need?

Answer»

I have a Windows XP Home Edition,Version 2002,Service Pack 3, Dell, AMD Athlon(tm) 64 processor 3700+, Gateway

My computer crashed and my friend got it back up and working again, but for some reason my sound doesn't work and i don't know why..I am guessing i need to download the sound card..

Under sounds and audio devices properties it says no audio devices btw.Look for your sound drivers on the Driver Gateway CD that came with the machine...
If he re-installed XP then you should re-install the MBoard drivers from there as well...Any other way? Since i don't have that cd?Sure.
Travel to Gateway's site and look up your Model # in the Support/Downloads section...Wouldn't be fun if it was that EASY eh? xD  I can't find out my model number the sticker with it was ripped off. On it was also the serial number.  DLoad, install and run Everest Home.....and save the report as a text file...
Post the Computer Summary info here...nothing under the Debug section and we'll have a looksee.Really quick. I dL'ed a driver scanner and for the sound, VIDEO and game controllers part is says i need realtek AC'97 Audio for VIA (R) Audio controller.. could it be it? Just wondering before i try the Everest Home Edition 2.20

edit: Never mind. I just check the drivers my computer has for sound and it lists
Audio Codecs
Legacy Audio Drivers
Legacy Video Capture Devices
Media Control Devices
Realtek AC'97 Audio for VIA (R) Audio controller
Video Codecs

Uh, ill try the thing you said now. Oh yea i forgot what i did but i got an error that said failed to open waveform output device..if that means anything ----Summary---

Like it's having trouble starting up or something? I don't know. I think this may have something to due with unable to find the music that was downloaded? Er.. yeah.

Solve : Unable to load pictures to Computer from Camera; Drives missing?

Answer»

Hello,
First of all I want to apologize ahead of time b/c I'm not very technically inclined with the computer.  Typing and playing with pictures and such is the extent of my knowledge.  Okay, here is the problem.  Any help is greatly appreciated.  I went to put pictures from my camera to my computer and they wouldn't load.  So I went to My Computer to see if it was even reading on the drives, whichever one I plugged it into ie: G: H: J: I: etc.  They were all missing.  I only see D: and E: for my CD/DVDs.  All the drives for the USB and camera card slots on the front of my tower are gone.  I switched log in names to se if that made a difference, it did not.  I did a system restore to a month prior, even though I put photos from the camera to the computer a week ago, to see if that would help, it did not.  Any suggestions?  Thank you.  I use windows XP with a Dell computer.Hello:

Thanks so much for replying!  I kind of gave up hope there!  I opened up Device Manager, there are no "unknown devices".  It does not detect the USB cable when plugged into the front of the computer, there are two spots for that, and it does not detect the camera memory card when I use that.  The printer is working fine, it is plugged in with a USB cable in the back of the computer.  Under Disk Drives it reads "ST3250824AS" and under DVD/CD ROM Drives it reads "SONY CDRWDVD CRX3105" & also "TSSTcorp DVD+-RW TS-H553A". The model # of my Dell is DXP061.  Thanks for any help!

TracyHave you tried hooking the camera up with the card in it to a USB port on the rear of the machine ? ?I did try that.  It didn't work.  I am not sure why.

Solve : Burned CDs saying they are blank?

Answer»

So I have been looking AROUND and TRYING to find a solution to my problem.  None of the answers seem to be working.

I bought my laptop (toshiba m200) while I was living in Korea.  Thus, all the cds and dvds that I used to burn were from Korea.  Now that I am back in the US, my computer will no longer burn cds or read any cd BURNED in america.  It can read all the cds that I burned in Korea still so I am a little confused.  It can read dvd movies and music cds, but nothing that is burned.

I had the computer search to make sure the driver is running correctly and is up to date (it is).  I checked the region and that is fine.

Does anyone know what else I should do?What application are you BURNING with ? ?
Are you finalising the burns ? ?The cds have been burned by different applications.

I have some old photos on a cd.  I have cds that are music files burned from a friend's computer.  I have cds with pdfs burned from my work.  None of them are reading on my computer but ork on othersThen it's probably a burned out read laser in the unit...See i thought about that.  However it doesn't make sence because it is only US burned cds it won't read and burn.  the cds from korea work fine.
