Solve : External Hard Drive Problems...?

Answer»

I have an external harddrive.

Toshiba 250Gb external harddrive.

And, for some reason, whenever I plug it into a computer it suddenly says that it dosn't have the drivers NECESSARY to use the hardware. Is there anyway I can fix this or download drivers for this. I've tried everything I could think of, but nothing seems to be workng....so if someone knows ANYTHING about this can you let me know.Did it work before?
Any recent computer CHANGES?
Do you plug it in, while computer on?Did it work before?
Yes, has until a few days ago and from then on my comp doesn't recognize it.

Any recent computer changes?
None that I know of. Unless Windows updated itself one night, I haven't changed anything.

Do you plug it in, while computer on?
Yes. I've tried booting my comp with it plugged in and plugging it in after booting up, but both have the same results.Try it in a different machine and see if it is RECOGNISED...
If it is...boot your machine without the external.
Find it in Device Manager and uninstall it.
Power down and plug it in and re-boot...Windows should automatically re-install it.Tried...and it still says it has to install the drivers for the hardware....

Solve : C-media audio device 'will not start'. why??

Answer»

Hello to everyone

I have searched this problem in the forum but nothing has appeared usueful to my problem so far so I'm appealing to you all to SEE if you can help.

I attached speakers to my computer for the first time in about a year and the driver is not working. The make model etc is C-Media AC97 Audio Device version 5.12.1.51.

I have tried all the basic stuff recommended in various forums and on windows help and support centre. Windows says 'device cannot start' (code 10).
When i go in to the device multimedia properies (from control panel... SOUNDS and audio devices...etc)  and look at the individual properties they all say Status: Driver is enabled and functioning properly. So, i really don't KNOW what the problem is.

I am using xp.

I'm not entirely useless with computers and have tried many things out and searched for a solution to this problem all over the internet and this is a last RESORT. Please help.

Eva.Windows is no good at telling if a driver is good or not...
Dload the proper one From Here   and re-install it.
Re-boot and see what happens...Which driver do i dl?I have RESOLVED this matter finally. Uninstalled driver and downloaded the one from the speaker manufacturer's site. Dead Easy.

Thanks for your help.

Solve : Error 1598?

Answer»

After two years of using my Aspire 5043WLMI on a non-manufactures version of XP, I just  lost my wireless driver. Tried to un-install the Boardcom 802.11, and RELOAD the same driver (From Acer.com for this machine) however I get stopped with [Error 1598 SETUP cannot continue]. How can I re-install the driver. (Note the CPU is a AMD. Turion64, however I BELIEVE the XP works as 32bit [FAT]) Sorry if I don't seem to know what I am writing about. THanks Tom (Note: The XP is not a bootleg, lost my D2D when I FIRST purchased the laptop and tried to load Ubuntu.)Perhaps you should order a restore disk.

Solve : Windows media player running S l o w Windows XP?

Answer»

Since I updated the drivers useing "driver DETECTIVE" the Media Player program slowed down to a crawl.  I can't even burn a CD anymore.  I upgraded to MP 11, but no help, still running slow.  Any ideas? Quote

Since I updated the drivers useing "driver detective"
Why? Was it anything wrong with them?I didn't think so, however, I am also trying to burn DVD's from a software program that COMES with my camera.  It was suggested that the reason the DVD wouldn't burn could be due to outdated drivers.  I used the program "Driver Detective" and it indicated that some of the drivers were outdated. so I ran the update.  Since I sent this email, I decided to download "RealPlayer" and that works fine.  I am going to uninstall WMP.  I don't understand the problem  as I can play music files.

Thanks for your response. Quote
It was suggested that the reason the DVD wouldn't burn could be due to outdated drivers.
Suggested by whom? Optical drives don't need any extra drivers in XP.
Never update any drivers, if there is nothing wrong with them.

Solve : Hotkeys on keyboard?

Answer»

I bought a brand new IBM Easy Access keyboard to use on my WINDOWS XP machine. It works, however the hotkeys don't. I've tried installing the provided driver, but it doesn't like Windows XP.

I've tried other variations of the Easy Access Keyboard Driver (i.e. the Easy Access Keyboard II driver), knowing that they probably wouldn't work, but they didn't, so, no loss there. I tried installing the drivers in compatibility mode, and they didn't work either, as well as trying Microsoft IntelliType (which has WORKED with non-Microsoft keyboards for me in the past). Windows doesn't have a built in driver for it, either.

Is there any wa at all, even if it involves registry hacks, and short of going to Windows 98 again, to get it to work?

If not, no loss, I only paid $5 for it, the actual keyboard part works, just the hotkeys don't.

Thank you all very much for your time and help with this.  Did the Keyboard come with a cd at all?

Do the hotkeys work on another computer?
Haven't tried it on another computer, although I might break out the old compaq tomorrow and try.I would try reinstalling the software, restarting the computer, then check to see if it works or not.

If not, try the other computer.I've tried installing the provided software before on XP. If it's not run in compatibility mode, it GIVES an error and won't install. When run in compatibility mode, the driver installs, asks to restart the computer, and does so. The control panel appears with small text that's unreadable, and the hotkeys don't work. I'll try it on the old computer tomorrow.Compatibility mode? What OS is this designed for? Quote from: Carbon Dudeoxide on March 07, 2009, 04:26:28 AM
Compatibility mode? What OS is this designed for?
The driver is designed for Windows 95\NT4. Yeah, it's THAT old. It even came with a PS\2 to DIN adaptor. LIke I said, if the hotkeys don't work, no big deal. It's a good keyboard with or without them.Yeah, I don't think you will get the hotkeys working with XP.

Solve : Backup disk drive question?

Answer»

I have a Gateway laptop running Vista Home Premium, and my D-backup disc says it is full.
What should I do?D is not your backup, it's your recovery partition. I shouldn't be touched. Did you PRY any files into that partition?Backup requires another Had Drive.
The D: is not really another hard drive. It is a place where some very important stuff is kept and you don't want to mess with it.
You need to buy another Hard Disk Drive. Many people like to get the EXTERNAL kind, because the are so easy to install and USE. And if you r COMPUTER is small, you have to use the external kind.Hello:

Please do this steps ONLY IF you receive the "Low disk Space" message.

You could not backup to the recovery partition, however, if you have already receiving Low disk space error and would like to disable it (Note: This will not free-up recovery partition space, this will only disable the annoying Low disk space message):

Press and hold Windows Key on keyboard and press R. It will open Run Window. Type the following in the open box and click OK

Regedit

1. Use the left side of the Registry Editor, navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindo wsCurrentVersionPolicies

2. Right-click in the right pane and select New Key.

3. Name the new key Explorer.

4. In the Explorer key, right-click in the right pane and click New DWORD (32-bit) Value.

5. Name the DWORD NoLowDiskSpaceChecks.

6. Right-click the new DWORD and click Modify.

7. SET the Value Data to 1.

8. Click OK.

Solve : Can't get sound to work on 2nd hand computer?

Answer»

I got a computer from a recycle network. I was able to reformat the hard drive and install XP. Everything seems to be working fine except the sound. I plugged in the speakers but get no sound. When i go to hardware device manager, it lists a "multimedia audio controller" under "other devices with a yellow question mark next to it. It says it is enabled but that the DRIVERS are not installed and gives Code 28. I tried the  the "reinstall driver" option but it can't find the driver. And I don't have any of the software that came with the computer so I can't reinstall.  I also tried the troubleshooting feature but that didn't help.

In the hardware device manager list under sound, video and game CONTROLLERS these are the things listed:
audio codecs
legacy audio drivers
legacy video capture devices
media control devices
video codecs
When I click on each of these, each say they are working properly.

The computer is a shuttle brand computer and the PREVIOUS owner upgraded the video card to an xfxforce. Is there a way to know if he also upgraded the sound card and that's why it is not working? I tried plugging the speakers to the built-in speaker outlet but nothing happens. I also noticed that the monitor (an ADVUEU which I can't find a website for- much less a driver) has speakers and a speaker outlet built into the monitor monitor itself. I tried plugging into there but that's not working for me either.

What can I do? Appreciate any ideas.Download, and install Everest: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html

Solve : Need drivers for motherboard?

Answer»

The Computer was an Emachines D2880... but was replace with a motherboard that was not the same..... the restore cd worked.
The drivers, chipset, ect everything worked great.  However, do to a different mb "HP motherboard" when i try to activate it.... it did not work.
so yes, i would say that tech was insane or was a good dam hacker!  You NEED to either do a fresh install of Windows or a repair install of Windows.on a different cd... not a restore cd correct?Using an XP cd, correct.that's is why i SAID that tech was insane... now he has to buy another xp cd.
he should have put another  crappy emachine mb that was the same... lol

thanks again What he did is irrelevant and your stuck with it...what we do is look for solutions...
Repair Install of XP...

Done properly all your data and apps will be intact...1 mistake and everythings gone...but you will have a clean install of XP.
So i suggest reading it thru and PRINTING out a reference COPY before starting...

PS You will most likely need to re-activate XP with MS...i know... but by the time i GOT the computer.... it was too late, he restore/format the computer.
Thanks guys. *****sigh**** Quote from: Slayer666 on December 04, 2010, 05:13:08 PM

i know... but by the time i got the computer.... it was too late, he restore/format the computer.
Thanks guys.
So the tech has already formated the drive?
I hope you had your data/documents backed up.

What's up with techs always assuming that they have to format everything.no my friends father did... because the computer Crash.... he restore the pc and the tech said, you shouldn't have done that.
The thing that puzzle me was .... he restore it on a pc that wouldn't let you activate windows.... the tech put a new motherboard in it and didn't warn him that he couldn't use that cd anymore.

I don't know much about  Windows Reactivator  but the only thing i can think... and you guys would know more than me is he either use Windows Reactivator before he put windows in or hack the pc.  I don't know nothing about Windows Reactivator but i can tell you his HD went to heaven.

I think what he means is the Zip driver he has is stored on a floppy disk, & computer doesn't have a floppy disk drive.  So all he needs is a way to download the driver.
BTW, I used to have a Zip100USB.  It was a POS.  Zip Parallel was worse.

Stored it away when I got a parallel to SCSI converter cable for external SCSI HD's, then an HD-45 hard drive enclosure with both parallel & PCMCIA interfaces.  Retired the HD-45 for external USB IMAGE BACKUP a couple years ago.

In any case, the page lists your computer as XPS/Dimension 400/9150. Is this correct?
Then, your AUDIO driver is listed as SigmaTel SIGMATEL STAC 92XX C-Major HD Audio. Is this, what you tried to install?

now what?Did you restart? Still no sound?
Now, try this driver: http://members.driverguide.com/driver/detail.php?driverid=205636
If NONE works, I'd assume sound chip being busted.nope didnt work

my computer might have gotten banged up so
i woouldnt doubt the chip being f'd up

this is HORRIBLE..

how much do they run for?Not to worry. Sound cards start at about 15 bucks.and installing them?Pretty easy.
It comes as a PCI card. You open the case, put the card into the slot, start the computer, and Windows will detect the card. You install a driver form provided CD, and you're done.

This would be equivalent to reinstalling XP on a new machine and starting a new topic for every missing driver- In each threat people helping would only know you were missing the one- whereas if a single thread was STARTED describing all missing drivers and the reinstall relevant assistance comes much faster.

... That's how forums work, as well.

Solve : change the default download drive??

Answer»

Hi,
How do I change the download default drive from H:/(which I don't have) to C:/?
I was given this computer from a friend that must have had it connected to a network server-- H:/ drive.  Now I WANT it as a 'stand-alone" computer.
Thanks for any help...
Skookum BobBrowser ? ?
In FIREFOX it's Tools/Options/Main/Downloads/ Select where Downloads are saved...
I haven't seen IE in years so don't ask...
Someone else who is familiar with it will be along shortly...Thanks,  I will try that.  But now I have really screwed up.  I THOUGHT I would LOOK in the bios to see if there was a drive change.  I didn't think I changed anything, but when I hit f10, and got out, Now my computer won't even load windows.  What did I do?  And how can I fix it??  Please help.  Remove all power sources.
Open a side panel to the machine.
Remove the CMOS battery located on the MBoard ...about the size of a dime.
Be careful not to damage the battery holder.it has a tiny spring bar to hold the battery in place...i use a toothpick to do this.
With the battery out hit the main power switch on the front of the machine to discharge any stored energy.
Wait 10 minutes and replace the battery and power up.
The BIOS will now be RESET to it's default settings and should boot properly...

As always when working inside the case remove all power sources and take anti-static precautions...

NOTE: Never fool in the BIOS to fix a software issue...it doesn't work.Thank you for the bios tip.  I promise to never try to change a software problem in the bios.

The computer boots up fine, but now the log in password in not working.  I have the password and have been using it for a few months now.

After the bios trick, the boot is fine until I type in the password in the correct box.  Then the nasty message that I don't have the correct password or that the 'case' is wrong.  I have tried both.

Is there a way to bypass the password until I can make my own?  I original owner had her password on the computer.  When she gave the computer to me, she gave me her password.

Thanks,
Passwordless Skookum

Reinstalling windows and Erasing all my files and everything that I had saved on my computer, Which means I had to do all my windows updates again and start all over.

And I notice I did not EXPLAIN my problem very well I apologize.

SorryI'm guessing it's either your RAM or power supply.

This leads me to suspect the power supply as the most likely culprit.

I notice that this problem is causing my fan not to work all the time, the funny thing is that it does run sometimes which is very odd.

Are you talking about the fan on the back of the computer? The fan that cools the system down, Which the air is coming from the back of my computer. Which is the back one I thinkPlease explain exactly how you erased your files and installed the OS. Step by Step. Thank you.I started my computer up I tapped F8 went into " Repair your computer " Then it went into tech guys and I had options ( For example to use the Windows memory diagnostic tool ) But i went into "Reinstall Windows" And clicked Full Destructive recovery which said below it " Reinstall windows back to it's original configuration".Okay thank you. And immediately after that the problem appeared or was it okay for a while? Also, do you have an anti virus utility installed and always resident? No,The problem happened after I went on an unsafe site and I didn't realize, And my fan was starting and stopping every second eventually my computer went off then thats when I started getting the BSOD error after I tried rebooting, So I did the full system recovery and the fan started running up while it was configuring everything and even when I was downloading all the windows update and everything it ran smooth through out the day, Then the next day I go on it the fan isn't running at all when I booted my computer and It ends up switching itself off again after a while then I reebooting and get the BSOD Problem again. Has for Now the fan is working now then a bit later it will start stopping and then starting again then stopping. Sometimes it won't start up at and cause Overheating. The fan seems fine tho just doesn't seem to work has it should be.Ok I have tried to resolve the problems myself for a few days, It hasen't crashed in a couple of days. But my fan is having a late start up about a 10 minutes after booting my Computer, the fan works fine through out the day. My fan sounds fine when it's running but having a very late start up is there anyway of repairing this then my problem should be solved after that because originally my fan was causing the BSOD it seems like and something is causing it not to run like it should be.Is this a laptop?
Brand and model?Yes it's a laptop, And the brand is EI System. Sorry I can't find out the Model because im at college thats all the information I can provide but I will be home in a couple of hours I will tell you then. What did you MEAN by model?

All I know is the laptop is a EI system laptop that has Vista home premium and has Intel Celeron Dual core t1400 1.73.GHz and my Computer has 1.00 GB Ram

Im sorry I didn't understand but can you explain to me what model is or have I given the right information?Woops I mean my Computer is a E-system computer*

Apologies

Solve : Old External Hard Drive Not Compatible.?

On my Old HP Pavilion M8200n computer, I was using the HP Personal MEDIA Drive for my music and VIDEOS. I'm finding that there isn't a driver that is compatable with my new HP Pavilion Elite HPE 400f. Can anyone shed some light on this??? Is there an alternative to transferring files to a new computer.1) Is it a usb drive? If so, I don't believe it would need a driver
2) Even if it does need a driver, drivers are OS specific not computer specific

??if you are referring to the monitor- it could mean a DAY, it could mean five years- hard to tell.

Personally I've used monitors until they start setting off the BREAKER, or their magnets that guide the beam start going weak enough to CAUSE it to stop scanning up/down (bright line in the middle of the screen)

Thankfully LCD monitors don't have scary sounding parts like electron guns.

Solve : Does Error 1598 = burnt out card??

Answer»

How do you diagnose whether a wireless adapter card is burnt out?
I keep getting a [error 1598 setup cannot continue] when trying to reinstall the boardcom wireless driver.
Burning out a wireless card is HARD to do. And as far as BroadCom Drivers go...they can be a pain to try to find the right one. I am guessing that you have maybe the wrong driver for the chipset. Did you get this driver from the OEM or some place else?

Also is this card integrated to the laptop etc or PCMCIA or USB interfaced etc? Seen before where if you dont have your PCMCIA BUS Controller drivers it will cause issues with devices plugged in.

If this is an external wireless adapter device, has it been mistreated to where it could be damaged or are we truely hunting down a driver issue like this sounds like? Thanks for your comment DaveLembke.

I do not see why I would have had the wrong driver for the chipset. This is because it worked for 18 months, before just not working a few weeks ago. I am using this same computer with the ETHERNET cable into the same router I recieved the wireless. The driver I was using was downloaded from Acer for this model of MACHINE. I am sorry, I don't know what OEM means.

Also is this card integrated to the laptop etc or PCMCIA or USB interfaced etc?
I have no idea.

I cannot order a service MANUAL from Acer, because I do not have a credit card, and Acer will not except money orders. Other than the inspection plates, I cannot get this thing apart.
I have no idea about a PCMCIA BUS Controller.

There is more information about my machine in my two other postings on this site.

If this is an external wireless adapter device, has it been mistreated to where it could be damaged or are we truely hunting down a driver issue like this sounds like? Might have been.

This machine was shuting itself down, I think it has been heating up alot, so I had to try clean it with compressed gas (air or whatever it is)....... However the machine worked fine for a couple weeks after I had done that.........

I know considering purchasing a new machine......... Please read my posting under general or other cat........... Thank you for your advice.........Driver / file issue.

Solve : possible bad soundcard?

Answer»

is it possible for the sound card of a computer to be bad even though it says it is working properly in the device manager?Yes, Windows does not do a full diagnostic.Hiya.  I have just recently re-installed windows xp on my computer and ever since then i have had no sound.  The device manager tells me that it is working properly, but when i go to the sounds and audio section to try and bring some sound samples up, it shows no device detected.  I've tried to update the drivers for them but there are none better.  Should i try to re-install XP again?  I'm also not sure which is the sound device.  Here is the list of all the names under the sound, video and game controllers tab..Audio Codecs, Legacy Audio Drivers, Legacy Video Capture Devices, Media Control Devices, Unimodem Half-Duplex Audio Device and Video Codecs.  I'm PRETTY sure that the video one's have nothing to do with it, but I'm not familiar with sound devices and what they need to be able to work properly.  Sorry for the noob question

thanxIn the device manager do any devices have a yellow question mark?
If so, all such have to be re-installed or removed. Any device that is not installed properly can interfere with the sound. Even video cards, in some cases.
You should not have to do the XP install over again. Instead, remove one to the suspect devices or update the driver.
Besides installing XP, you need to install whatever is needed for your motherboard chip set. Often nothing works right until you get that done. Did the  motherboard or PC come with an install CD other that the XP CD ?
Thanx for the quick response and yes there are a few that have yellow question marks on them under device manager.  Under other devices: PCI device, SM Bus Controller, Video Controller and Video Controller(VGA COMPATIBLE).  Once upon a time I had all the re-install CD's,  but I have lost them all.  This copy of Windows was given to me from a friend.I un-installed the files in question and installed them again, but only 2 have the yellow question mark now.  i tried to get updates for them, but that didn't work either.  There is nothing in Device manager about my graphics card specs either, so I'm wondering if the system is not fully recognizing the card.  I have downloaded the latest drivers for it also.Do you have the MBoard Driver CD for that machine ? ?Nope.  all I have is the OS disk.  I know my MOBO NAME and the chipset.  When i download the new chipset file, is there anything i have to uninstall for that update to work properly?.. thats the only thing i can think of at this point :/Here is a list of my DxDiag info involving my sound.

Looks like you have a Voice/Fax modem. TALE it out of the computer (with power off). Reboot, remove any drivers for any sound devices. Reboot, windows may now 'discover' the right sound device and ask for drivers.
Later, put your, modem back in, if you need it.

Solve : My E:drive is not reading my dvds . and what is raid controller??

Answer»

I'm having a problem with my e disc drive.  It's not RUNNING any dvd's or the sims 2 when I put them in there.   I'm not sure when the problem started but it had to have happened RECENTLY.   I put the discs in and no error message comes up or anything, I just go into my computer and look at the e drive and it doesn't show anything in it and when I click on it, it's like there is nothing in the drive.

I use WINDOWS xp, it's a custom built computer with 512mb of RAM  and IT's AMD

I've tried the gettting rid of lower and upper filters but it didn't help.

can anyone help me?

p.s. I went into device manager and there is a big yellow  question mark next to other devices  then raid controller.   what is a raid controller?I always thought E: drive was a Virtual Driver from Daemon tools or MagicDisk? Quote from: Jennja28 on February 22, 2009, 06:53:45 PM

p.s. I went into device manager and there is a big yellow  question mark next to other devices  then raid controller.   what is a raid controller?

Raid controller is related to hard drive raid CONFIGURATION. A yellow mark next to Raid controller means that the raid driver is missing. The driver will be available on motherboard disc . Your computer is using IDE mode instead of RAid. However. this is not related to dvd drive issue.

If the drive is able to read cds but not dvds, there is an issue with the drive itself. In device manager , click on the plus sign on cd/dvd drives . what is the name of the drive listed ? double click on dvd drive and check its status. If status say "working " driver is fine .   If you get any error code there , let us know

The name of the cd/ dvd drive  is  HL-DT-ST-RW GCE-81608

it says it is working properly.   it's so strange cause I do not understand why it's not reading my dvd's, sims 2  but yet it's reading my audio cds.  do you know of what it could be?The issue may be caused due to the lens not able to read dvd but read cds ... different wavelengths are used to read cds and dvds.. reinstall the cd/dvd driver:

1. Right click on HL-DT-ST-RW GCE-81608 >> select uninstall
2. Restart the computer. the drivers will be reinstalled after a restart

You may also try special lens-cleaning disc available for your dvd drive to clean the lens. Also check for firmware updates for the drive .  if the issue STILL persists, it can be a dvd drive issue  ...

First of all your computer is not seeing your cd drive as a floppy disk drive.  You have an option in your BIOS set that you have a floppy drive.  (PRESS F1 or the DEL key just as your computer powers on to get into bios and change it.)  Second, I would check the Master/Slave settings on both hard drives and your cd drive (the pins to jumper are located right by the spot you plug in the IDE cable).  Your first hard drive should be set so that the jumper is in the master setting, the second hard drive should be set to the slave setting.  Your cd drive should be set to the Master setting.More people can help you if you make it clear what computer you have, have you modified it, and when did this start to happen.
Why are you sure that you did not have a hardware failure?
If the thing had been working, what did you change?
Why did you set your CD-Drive to Master?
Or do you mean it was always set that way.
We don't know for sure if you CD is a PATA or SATA interface.
We superpose it is a PATA.
How does the floppy get into this?
Have you recently installed strange software?
Have you been poking around in the registry?
Many here want to help you, but need a clear explanation of what is going on.
To have a CD Drive become a Floppy Drive is one we have never heard of!

Solve : Compucessory cordless mouse?

Answer»

I was recently given a used compucessory cordless keyboard and mouse.  There were no DRIVER disks present.  When I plug it in the keyboard works perfectly (I am using it now)  but I can't get the mouse to work.  I have tried looking for drivers for it, but I cannot seem to find anything.  Is there a way to tell if the mouse is just broken?  The optical light shows up just fine.

The model number on the bottom of the mouse, keyboard and reciever is CE0470.

I am using Windows vista Home Premium SP1
The computer is an HP Pavillion 2 GHz dual core
I have 2 GB DDR 2 Ram

Thanks
Since google only turns up 3 hits for info on drivers on this model...all dead ends i would suggest investing in a new cordless combo....Do you actually push "Connect" button on wireless receiver, and on the mouse, before you try to use it?I didn't know there was a connect button.     I'll look for it and try it.

What you usually do, you push "Connect" button on the receiver, first, and then quickly, "Connect" button on the mouse (it should be underneath, and you may need a pencil to push it).I have to admit i've never seen a google search on hardware turn up only 3 results....however carry on.Solved!!

I pushed the connect buttons, and the mouse worked, but was JUMPY.  However then the keyboard stopped working.  I finally solved my problem by going out to the garage  and finding a PS2 extension cord and extending my plug in mouse to where I wanted it.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Was getting the No Audio Device error, but fixed that with your help (THANK YOU).
Now it sees the sound device & plays the CD but I hear nothing. I have all audio turned up to Ear Drum Transplant Required, and I hear nothing. I'm ready to throw this thing off a bridge.

Help!

~Raven Quote

been to SiS & C-Media to get latest drivers
Why, since:
Motherboard Chipset   VIA UniChrome KM266 Pro
Audio Adapter   VIA AC'97 Enhanced Audio Controller  Because when I was scoping your site & checking the puter for info it GAVE me SiS as driver then gave me C-Media as the device.

Its on-board or I'd just yank the thing and replace it. Funds are tight though so I'm exhausting all other options.

Any ideas those options might be? I have tried literally everything, even re-installed XP.

The chipset driver installs fine, but the audio driver crashed the computer.
Twice. I get the blue screen of doom & the memory dump error.
I ran a repair install on the harddrive, and tried again, same result.

Any idea why installing a driver would kill the computer? Do I need to wipe the drive and start from scratch?

~Raven
did you uninstall the SiS and CMedia drivers/Software? Quote
I get the blue screen of doom & the memory dump error.
Navigate to: C:\Windows\Minidump folder.
If you see any .dmp files, zip all of them, and attach zipped file to your next reply.
.dmp files attached. Thanks much

[attachment deleted by admin]All three latest errors come from sysaudio.sys file (System Audio WDM Filter).
Let's see, if your system files are OK.

Go Start>Run ("Start Search" in VISTA), type in:
sfc /scannow
Click OK (hit Enter in Vista).
Have Windows CD/DVD handy.
If System File Checker (sfc) will find any errors, it may ask you for the CD/DVD.
If sfc won't find any errors in Windows XP, it'll simply quit, without any message.

Solve : Windows 7 and x700 Drivers?

Answer»

Hi guys (and gals)

I am currently RUNNING the Windows 7 Beta 32-bit, and want to FORCE install Radeon x700 Drivers, but it wont lt me, saying they aren't compatible, even though I have tried the Vista 32-bit equivalent.

Also, my card is too old for the Windows 7 Pre-Release drivers to work.

Any ideas?Did you try compatibility mode? (Right click the installer, proprieties, Compatibility an use the vista or xp)If it still don't work you can try to unpack the installer in a folder, in device manager, right click the video card, click update, BROWSE the computer, LETS me pick...Browns in you folder, click you driver an voila

Hope it helpYes I tried both

Even when I point it to the folder with the .INF in it...it refuses to install it

Solve : Free Driver Site .... Use to use Driverguide long ago when free?

Answer»

Anyone know of a good site for drivers that is free... Driverguide use to be free years ago and I could use Drivers as user name and ALL for password. Now they want you to pay for the service.

I think its wrong that they accept drivers for free from people and then charge you to download them.... especially since there is still tons of advertisements with the paid service, so they are making money both from users needing drivers and the companies advertising through them.

I have been fortunate to be able to get most drivers direct from the manufacturers, but have also had to perform work arounds that I will not discuss here in detail to grab 1 or 2 needed drivers by use of their 2 or 3 download trial setup and a method that I will not discuss to promote the use of which is not hacking etc, but definately circumventing their Trial Process by use there of.

Hoping there is a Driver Site out there like driverguide that is still free and makes their money from advertising only and/or donations!
I never use driverguide, I've never been able to get a working driver from them, and as you say it's BS that  they want you to pay.

Now I just do a google search- of course I'm sure you've explored that option, though...

What device and OS are you looking for drivers for?I never update drivers, unless there is something wrong with them.
God forbid any automatic driver scans!I have luck at the below site. Driverguide was a leech what a shame.
Great site too.

Broni I edited the link from your reply since your not online...I deleted my reply, then Ok am new here so a little BACKGROUND .For the last year plus i worked the driver guide chat .I had free access to A service that seems to be somewhat berated in several of the forums here. No not driverguide but d....agent
Now I know I helped many get their drivers at no cost using the 'SCAN' as the search tool ,but it would appear that now as the driverguide chat is discontinued ,the people I helped are still mailing me . So there are genuine free help sites out there the problem would appear to be that people are not willing to look .
As i am unsure of the PROTOCOL here I will not post a free application , e/book and driver site that has evolved  because of  the demise of driver guide chat.
It's backbone is a manned chat room not a forum . There is not even a donations box on the site

We have a chat....and a forum....

Driver agents and searchers and what not are USELESS.

Perhaps, in the end after paying for the program, they may find drivers, but it's USELESS in the way that those drivers can be obtained for FREE.

As Broni said, drivers don't need to be up[dated. If it works, it's fine.it seems you missed the point . I am able to provide those drivers for free. To someone sitting in an internet cafe in Mirmar that is a big gift . Often they have no money to use the luxury of time to update their MACHINES . What you may feel is a trifle of time , to them can be many days labour for an hour on the internet.
True to use the agent as a personal tool is a cost but as a time saver it stands on its own . You may wish to peruse this   http://windowssecrets.com/2008/07/31/03-Dont-get-burned-by-driver-update-scams   .
I do not defend the cost but I will defend the fact that they are helping the LESS affluent in fact all comers for free. I don't see that elsewhere

First of all, drivers DO NOT need to be updated.

And even if there are updates, there is no need to update them if the piece of hardware is working fine.

What's this about? Time? Why are they in a cafe?
Downloading drivers are free. There is absolutely no need for a driver agent or anything like it.'And even if there are updates, there is no need to update them if the piece of hardware is working fine."
No argument the agent only suggests there is a later driver and provides a link.

In that situation the only internet access the masses has is via govt controlled cafes . Also the average income is very low and internet costs are high. As I was using this as an example of the fact that not all have the luxury of time or the "Expert " SKILLS required to find out what they have let alone where to find the drivers etc.
Also you appear to be stuck on the thought that I am touting DriverAgent . I am not but am defending it on the basis that DriverAgent is helping these people for free nothing more.Manufacturers offer drivers free at their site...lol
Driver agent is helping people for free? You have to pay for it though......

Solve : Driver messing up internet connection?

Answer»

I was using a Dell Inspiron E1505 but the screen got BUSTED so I got a Dell Inspiron 6400 which they are basically the same except the 1505 is for consumers and the 6400 is for business. Anyways well I just took my hard drive out of the E1505 and put it in the 6400. Everything seemed to work fine except for the video CONTROLLER drivers it said needed to be downloaded. So I downloaded the drivers which I can almost say 100% are the CORRECT ones. But after I downloaded and installed them I lost my internet connection. With IE it would show my homepage but when I tried to go to another site it would say that I didn't have a connection. Same with Mozilla. I eventually uninstalled the driver and then voila. My internet connection was back. So instead of Dell I tried to download the driver from Intel's website but the same thing happened. I don't loose connection right away. But after about 10-15 mins I loose mt connection again. Some of the games that I like to play require that I have direct X but I can't have direct x unless I have the driver installed. Could someone please try to help me with this. Uninstalling so I can get online, and reinstalling so I can play a game is getting kinda old. Thank You In Advance.Travel to Dell's site and enter the Service Tag # from the 6400...
There it will list all the drivers for that machine.
I would re-install ALL of them starting with the MBoard chipset drivers first.
Re-boot after installing each one.

Best of Luck.Same problem I was doing them all in order and when I downloaded the video driver I restarted it and couldn't get back online

Solve : COMPUTER LOCKS UP AFTER UPGRADE?

I replaced my motherboard, CPU & memory. UPGRADED from 939 socket to AM2+. After INSTALLING drivers for the MSI board, I had no graphics after windows started. Changed graphics card, and now I can see, but the MOUSE won't work, the keyboard won't work. Tried booting in safe mode, no good. I think I jammed up the drivers somehow. Can someone help me back out of this without re-formatting the hard drive?Re-boot and re-install your MBoard drivers.
Then re-install any additional drivers.

Solve : Graphics driver help please?

Answer»

I have an HP pavilion that is a few years old now, I believe I bought it in '03 or early '04,  and it's running WinXP.

For almost a year I've been having intermittent problems with my graphics driver, which as far as I know is Intel 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV.  Everytime I think it's finally stopped it comes back.  I've tried tracing it to new programs, JAVA updates, McAfee updates, nothing seems to set it off, so I don't know what causes it.  The computer will randomly crash or reboot, and occasionally I have problems with it on start up, and if I do an error report it always blames it on the graphics driver.  I'm getting really tired of it.  I reinstalled the driver last year with the most recent ONE available on the HP site, but that didn't work.  Is this something that I can fix?  Or will I be FORCED to either put up with it or get a new computer?  I assume this driver has something to do with the video card?  Could I replace that?  Or is that totally different?  Any advice would be welcome, thank you.  What is the error, you're getting?
If it really comes from your video card, you can always buy a real video card. If you don't need anything fancy, they're pretty cheap.I get a few different errors.

Usually what happens is that even if the computer seems to boot normally, it gives me a box after XP fully loads that "the system has recovered from a serious error".  If I report the error, it tells me that it was caused by the Intel Graphics Driver and that they don't have any suggestions on how to fix it other than reinstalling the driver.  This happens frequently.  Sometimes the computer will crash and reboot suddenly, or other TIMES it will just freeze and I need to do a cold shut down, and when it restarts I get the "recovered from a serious error" message.

Other times I have gotten a blue screen that says that the driver is stuck in an infinite loop and to restart the computer and that if it keeps happening to reinstall the driver or contact the manufacturer.

And then a couple times the screen has blinked off and comes up again with the screen in extremely low resolution and 8 or 16 colors, then an error message tells me that the graphics driver has stopped working and to restart the computer, and that it will give me a chance to report the error on restart.

Then I've had times where I don't really get an error message, it just won't boot up...it just stops and then restarts, often several times, or it freezes and I have to shut it down.

Does that tell you anything?  I'm at a loss.  I'm fairly good with computers but this is beyond me.   Thanks.
Will it boot OK into Safe Mode?
When you said, you reinstalled video driver, did you uninstall old one, FIRST?It seems to go fine into Safe Mode, at least once or twice last year I had to go into Safe Mode and I used an earlier configuration to reboot, which worked.

I am not sure about the driver....I believe I looked up what to do and followed the directions, but I don't remember now, it was so long ago.  If it works OK in Safe Mode, it may be just driver issue.
Download the newest driver, uninstall current one, and install new one.

Solve : css-dvp.sys?

Answer»

My main computer with Windows XP Home has a blue screen warning of a css-dvp.sys problem. I have sought all sorts of advice, but the problem is I cannot GET rid of the blue screen. When I close my pc by switching off at the box and restart the blue screen re-appears before I can call up anything. As a result I am being a model of controlled patience, but it is wearing thin.
Please can someone suggest something?
Donald.Did you, or do you have Authentium Command AntiVirus installed?
It looks like its driver, and it's listed as one of Device drivers known to cause instability in Windows XP Service Pack 2: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/883775Thanks for the reply. No, I don't. Of course, now the pc is down there is no way of checking other files is there?Try repair: http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htmThanks for the excellent advise. I will try that and let you know how I get on. It may take a biy of juggling with the pc, though, as when I start up the blue screen kicks in. Could I do this in Safe Mode? Print those instructions out, and follow them very carefully. You need to boot to Windows CD.Thanks again. I will follow the instructions with the greatest of care and caution.
Keep us posted I tried all the advice given to reinstall with disc but, of course, it has been upgraded and I don't have the product key. I did a restore from Safe Mode and got my screen back but the files have lost CONNECTION and can't source where they were produced. Quite honestly, I know how they feel! I will try a Safe Mode restore to another date. It's a bit like a trip in the Dr Who Tardus - you never know where you will end up!
DonaldSorry. The files "are not SUPPORTED".Wow! The Tardus has landed in a safe place. After a system restore to last week there is no css_dvp.sys and no broken file links. There is a God and he moves around in cyberspace using the internet highway.
Thank you for all the help. I will now have to find that css_dvp.sys and delete it before it rears its ugly blue screen again!

I'm not SURE, what you mean by "upgraded", but from what you said, I think you made a mistake at the step, which says in big fonts:
do not choose "To repair a Windows XP installation using the RECOVERY Console, press  R", (you Do Not want to load Recovery Console).

Solve : Reformat deleted nic driver?!?!?

Answer»

I recently reformatted a corrupted computer with windows xp sp 3 and as I began to UPDATE the drivers so I could CONNECT to my dsl and  I FOUND out that it deleted my NETWORK DRIVER.  How can I download the correct driver?

It is for a HP Pavilion xt963 desktop, I couldn't find the right one on hp's website.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  It looks like network card wasn't included in original configuration...

Download, and install Everest: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html
Open it, click Computer, then Summary.
In upper menu, go Report>Quick Report-Summary
Save it in text file, and paste it in your next post.
Don't include anything under line Debug - PCI And/or if you can't locate a driver simply buy a new NIC card.....they are dirt cheap.

Solve : My DVD drive has stopped working!?

Answer»

Hi everyone,

I've noticed a similar topic but I'm creating a new one because it probably needs one. Basically my computer was playing up today and I found out I had a trojan. A part of my computer playing up was me not being able to open my Norton 360 anymore. So I uninstalled it and downloaded this "FixVundo" thing from the symantec website which claimed to have REMOVED the trojan, and the effects the trojan was having weren't happening anymore (pop ups and the taskbar disappearing etc). But then I had a new problem. I re-installed Norton 360 and although windows defender said that Norton was protecting me, I still couldn't launch Norton. So on the add/remove programs list I CLICKED "change" for Norton and in hindsight I'm not sure that was a good idea because I don't know if that repairs it or uninstalls it or what ANYWAY, it told me to insert the Norton CD, I did, and it appeared to uninstall it again as now the icons and folders aren't on my comp anymore.

Now this is my problem - I inserted the CD again after rebooting to re-install Norton, and the CD isn't picked up. Nor are any DVDs that I put in. And the drive doesn't even appear under my computer. What is going on ?? Have I damaged it somehow ?? How can it be fixed ??

Any help would be much appreciated !

Thanks You could run CDGone--->http://aumha.org/downloads/cdgone.zip

You could try downloading and running the Guided Help PROGRAM from
Microsoft.--->http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060
Thanks for the reply,

Could you explain what CDGone is please ? And for the Guided Help thing, is there a version for Vista ? Quote from: Rosbif08 on August 14, 2008, 07:07:26 PM

Vista Repair instructions--->http://www.windowvistarepair.com/VistaBlog/known-vista-issues/dreaded-vista-error-code-39-code-31-code-32-and-code-19-60/

CDGone also removes  upper and lower filters then you reboot.
Just a different program like Microsofts guided Help.

It was a bit nerve racking, but the vista instructions worked. Thanks a lot !!  We are glad it worked friend. Good job!!! Rosbif08

I think you may have gotten the hardware names mixed up. Do you mean the modem (the box connected to your internet) or something else?

It might help if you give US the exact model of your laptop. Quote

Where are you posting from?Use another computer to download the driver. Save it to My Documents and then burn it to a CD. Now take that CD and run it with your computer. Quote from: Carbon Dudeoxide on August 14, 2008, 10:36:31 PM
