This will probably seem a stupid question to most of you, but I know nothing about computers and I'm trying my best lol.

I have BURNT a CD with video files from my mobile successfully, but its on a cdr which wont play through my dvd player.
I have dvdr blanks here, but do I need a special driver to burn dvd's? because the discs wont work in the driver I normally use to burn cd's through nero, or I'm doing something wrong?
I have a IDE-CD R/RW 12x8x32  and the other - a PIONEER DVD-ROM DVD-117

Any help appreciated!!  You need a DVD Burner. It is a separate piece of hardware that looks like a CDRW but has it's own software and can do this. They start at about $40. They can also write CDRW's, but not the other way aroiund.  YEAH sorry to tell this but your PIONEER DVD-ROM DVD-117  is only a DVD-rom combo drive which means it might burn cd's and read DVD's but it wont burn dvd's ,, sorry youll need a DVD burner to do this and then some good software as well altho might u consider trying TMPGEnc encoder as it can create VCD's (video CD's) you might be able to view them then on your PC.

Also one more thing if your thinking of buying a dvd burner now, check your dvd player to see if it supports DVD-R's or DVD+R's or both before you burn any movies. if its an XBOX ,, well my unmodded XBOX READS DVD+R's hope thats some help or at least points you in the right direction for research. lol i spent days and days researching that stuff..

oh and looking at the speeds on your CD writer drive it is quite old..

my computer is old and I TRIED to replace the HD with an old 6 gig HD the computer boots but it is SAYING i havea system disk failure. Help please don't KNOW what to doThe hard drive is either not hooked up or jumpered correctly or there is no operating system installed, or the hard drive is bad. Which do you think it could be? Do you KNOW the hard drive worked correctly?> Is it the only drive in the machine? Did you load an operating syatem?If you don't have an OS, or the disk is bad, and you have an installable operating system handy, you could format the drive and install Windows/Linux/whatever. But first, I'd check the cables to make sure they are correct, and the jumper is set properly, as GX1_Man said. FORMATTING is high on my "extreme actions" list.

Also, check the HD in another computer, if you can. If it works there, there may be a jumper issue or the cables aren't properly fastened.

finaly found i have a voodoo3 1000 BIOS version 2.15.05. graphics card downloaded driver which was zipped. unzipped it (i think) using winzip but cant open it or install it as my driver. except for goin mental, WHAT DO I DO.

Surely you will find what you need.Yup. Google, thats a good idea. think i wiped something. what does   a "Wscript Error" message saying  ("There is no script engine for file extension ".rom") mean
take it i do have the right driver. my computer just can't read it?
Are you  trying that original download or have you downloaded somehing else? What is the exact error message and when does it occur?

Run Everest Home (free) to get the exact ID of that card, megs of RAM on it and provide O/S details and let's see what we find. What does it show on bootup for the card? Do we know for sure that it works correctly?

I think you must have a BIOS upgrade there, not a driver, so I wouldn't worry about the first download.

I believe this was an OEM card that you have gotten. THese drivers are hard to find at best.

Good Luck and let us know.  Well that wasn't to hard. Well truth be told my friend brought own new driver for me. GF4 MX440SE 64MB DDRW/TV (wot a guy). Combined with the MEMORY he gave me, and the DDR400 motherboard from the old man..... Am laughin.

Learning from my past mistakes. Any chance you know how to load a l'espion mini digital camera (F2.8-3.9), by Digital Dream. Lost the driver cd ( for a change ). Downloaed the right one for camera from, Manugacturer page but when computer restarts after i install it, Nothing happens, No l'espion. how dya explain that, huh its a mystery. I have an ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe mainboard.  I am having trouble accessing the Phoenix AwardBIOS v6.00PC.  I KEEP getting the screen that says "Insert Disk press enter or ESC to continue POST".  My question: I would like to get the eSupport BIOS upgrade for this BOARD, but I fear that I will not be able to INSTALL it.  I am pretty sure that my system is virus free.  I can access the CMOS, and I reset to the DEFAULT settings, but I simply cannot get the AwardBIOS screen using the directions in the User Guide.  Any help appreciated.  I am past my skill/knowledge level.Don't be "pretty sure" about being virus free. Do you need the BIOS update? Some people want to update for no other reason than one is available and get problems for no good reason.

If so, are you sure that it is the correct BIOS? Have you checked the manufacturer's web site or forum for updates to the MANUAL or others with the same problem and their solutions?

I have a Dell dimension 4100 pentium III 933  With Windows ME.  I have a portable MP3 player S-320 that it will not recognize. I bought it about a year ago and had the same problem then. I found the solution then at the microsoft troubleshooting website, but the solution is no longer there, and I'm having the problem again. Shame on me for not writing it down. Didn't think I would need it again. It had something to do with removing part of a command. It was very simple.....*censored*. I believe a year ago it gave an error MESSAGE    usbntmap.sys was not found     I believe the file is there but the command line needs that change as I said earlier.......any ideas ?     When I plug the MP3 player in the mouse pointer just goes on and off the screen very QUICKLY, if you are not looking at it you would MISS it. Then nothing happens, computer functions normally.

Thanks anyway for your comment.Believe it or not I cannot find the name on the MP3 device anywhere, I even opened it up. The driver cd that was included has some install files on it that are titled MSI, I thought maybe that was the name of the manufacturer.

Hi.  I did my best with the search engine, so I'm sorry if this is a repeat question.

Anyways, I lost the installation disk for my motherboard.  So I tried to download the drivers off of the Epox website, but I have no idea what to do with the files that are in the ZIPPED folder they gave me.

JohnUnzip the zip.There's about 5 types of different UPDATES available for any mainboard. Be more specific.Nevermind, I got'er figured out.  I thought the thing I downloaded from Epox was some SORT of driver installation program that I couldn't work.  I figured out that I just needed to manually tell Windows to install the drivers that I downloaded.  

So simple that it seemed hard.People are spoiled. With Windows 98, we had to do that all the TIME.

Its that time again for me to reofrmat my computer and reinstall the Operating System. I am stuck on something that maybe you can help with. My problem is I have no sound on my computer it is built in sound card and I have the DRIVERS ready but after the INSTALLATION I get that yellow !. So I decided to check it out. Apparently it is USING the printing port LPT1: As the default location. My COMOS is set to AUTO. If I chose DISABLE same thing. Anyone got clues?

TRY shutting down your system, removing the sound card, powering up, shutting down, adding the sound card, and powering up again.  Windows may detect the sound card and properly allocate resources this time.

If you meant that your motherboard has an audio controller with incorrect allocation of resources, let me know and we will try something else.

I recently purchase a used, refurbished IBM 380 XD Thinkpad. It works great!  

The GUY I got it from uses a DIAL-up connection.  I have a broadband (cable) connection. He happened to have an IBM pcmcia token-ring auto 1614 credit card adapter. This fits into one of the pcmcia slots on the laptop.  instead of having an ethernet port, it has a cord attached to it, with the ethernet "male" end on it.  

I PUT the card into the laptop, then connected the end of the cable to my cable router.  I was not able to GET an internet connection.  I reset the cable modem, cable router and restarted the laptop, but it still wouldn't connect.

I'm assuming it needs drivers, but can't find them.  It also just may not work.  The guy I got it from got it w/a bunch of parts on ebay.  He couldn't test it, since he has a dial up connection.  

Any ideas?

About a month ago My DVD & CD rom drives are not showing up using windows explorer or my computer. and I can't play anything on either drive.
I have XP about a year old.
The D & E drives showed up the other day right after booting up the computer, then they disappeared a few seconds later. POOF just fanished.  
If I put a disk in either drive it will not run even a boot cd will not run. Its gotta be a software problem.

Are the optical drives external or internal?  If internal, have you opened up the case of the system and checked to see that the data cable is PROPERLY seated (i.e., firmly connected to both the motherboard and the optical drives)?  If external, have you tried plugging them in to a DIFFERENT USB port?

Why does this driver Chipset_WINXP32_V665.zip download as a Zip files but when I right click and say explore it SHOWS Chipset_WINXP32_V665.rar. I cannot extract with either winzip or winrar. What is going on here?
Am I a goober?Where did you download it from? It MAY not be YOUR problem (yet).I downloaded it from the ASUS web site.
On the 3rd computer I tried, I was able to extract the zip file to the rar file, then extract the contents.
I think I have a winzip issue on one machine but this was really wierd to SEE a RAR packaged in a ZIP file fro ASUS.

 That is strange. Sometimes PEOPLE download BIOS updates from the net at random (as opposed to the legit site) and get BAD surprises.A CHIPSET driver is not a BIOS update.

You may be able to force it to open by first opening Winrar and then browsing for the file.

It could also be an archived file. Simply double click on it to unpack/install the contents.

Hello I have a radeon9800 PRO. I went to install the newest driver updates for it and I GOT an error. The error was

"Setup was unable to complete the installation. TRY to setup your display adapter with the standard VGA driver before running setup."

Does anyone know how to fix my problem?

From there I went to install and before it could complete I got that error. installed a new hard drive but can't seem to get it formatted.
I'm using windows 98 to boot it but it doesn't seem to work.
It will go thru the startup only with the cd in, if I remove it the computer will not start up..it shows a cassette and the F keys.

Ok, i bought a NEW Jaton Geforce 6600gt VIDEO card and to update the drivers for it, It tells me i need to goto the device manager when my new card is in my computer. So when i goto the device manager window, it is blank, nothing shows up. Now ive been trying to figure this PROBLEM out and ive been working on this problem for 8 hours now and i could use a little help  :-/You can try running system RESTORE to a previous date when it all worked properly, but...in short, if Device Manager is blank then your system assumes you have no hardware.

If you try clicking on action and then scan for hardware changes, if that fails to help then you will have to reinstall your OS.Thank you i will try that Use the search of the forum before posting!

i HAVE A FRIEND WHO RECENTLY PURCHASED AN 'apollo
9800 pro. I got him into pc gaming built a rig for him and showed him how to do it. but anyway when the card arrived we found out that  the factory had put the wrong bios on it instead of being a 98oo pro it was a 9800 se, with only 4 pipelines instead of the standard 8
and lower clock speeds. I wrote the company support dept. and they apoloigized for thier mistake and I guess that all of thier 9800 pros had this problem. they said it is easily FIXED by flashing the correct bios for a 9800pro
and that it will not effect warranty and even sent a letter stating that, the problem is I cant find the bios for a apollo 9800 pro any where. I know other bios will work
but to be honest I have never done the bios for a video card. I have read how to do it, pretty much just like flashing the bios for a mobo,
but i dont know what bios to use could some one please help me with a set of bios that will work

I realize this is a very messed up deal on the behalf ofd APOLLO, THEY have been ignoring my REQUEST for help
I called them and they told me they would post the bios on thier site but they havent. we reaLLY dont have time to return the card TO NEWEGG they will replace it but that will take 2 weeks flashing bios takes 20 min.

sorry if I am ranting I am very upset, that I have introduce a friend to the pc gaming realm. showing and telling that it is a whole new world of gaming, directed to the older more mature gamer, and this corp wants to treat him like a 14 yr old with a super nintendo. I have Intel P4 based desktop SET with 2.4ghz processer, 256mb ram(400mhz FSB), 40GB hdd with 4 partitions, onboard video and audio systems, FDD, CD rom drive, and ADSL Broadband. My operating system is WinXP PRO (SP2) and it being updated to latest windows updates. My security centre settings are as per recomendations. Norton Antivirus is with latest upates. The computer is functioning very well for games, internet and other MS Office applications.

One of my application, 'Typing Tutor 6' doesnot start due to missing files in the C:\windows\system directory. The two files it can't find are GLCV20DR.DLL and GLFS20DR.DLL. These files can't be found using search in all drives. This problem started when I installed new OS. Can't reinstall 'typing tutor 6' as I no more have this disk. Please guide to find and restore these missing files from the internet.

I recently MADE a new computer using a ASUS P5LD2-VM motherboard. When i went to install the Ethernet driver an error message comes up saying the SNMP service is not installed, PLEASE instlal then start set up. I THOUGHT Windows XP comes with that but maybe im wrong. What can i do to either WORK around that problem or get SNMP onto my computer?

I am not sure WHETHER this is the right place to post this question! Having tried unsuccessfully to install a USB printer, I thought I might try and reload the Via 4in1 drivers. I first loaded an older version by mistake and then a more recent version v1446. I now get on booting up a 'Found new HARDWARE'with 'Via CPU to AGP controller' and 'Via PCI to ISA Bridge'. Windows TRIES to find the drivers but it puts up error message 'cannot find files'.Those items have an exclamation mark next to them in Device Manager. I have tried unsuccessfully to uninstall and then reinstall. I know they have been loaded, because they were ticked in the installation dialogue. After uninstalling them, the graphics went BACK to windows VGA, but after reloading the same wizard stills pops up. Another mystery!! Any ideas? I am running Windows 2000 Prof SP4 and it is an Asus mobo Via chipset A7333.
Try going into device manager and from the properties dialog you should be able to update drivers by pointing windows to the proper location (MB CD or directory for downloaded drivers).Thanks for your SUGGESTION. Because of a major computer problem I had to uninstall and now am trying to install my scanner but after INSTALLING get an error message "device is not CONNECTED" have tried uninstalling and installing again to no avail. hi, neither of the drivers on my dell will recognize any dvd's, i have a dvd driver and it worked in the past, it currently will not work in either drive and does not even recognize that there is any disc present at all. dvd's that previously worked will no longer play. It would be unusual for two to go out at the same time. If that is what happened, I would recheck all cabling,especially the secondary IDE channel on the MOBO.sry, well i have a dell dimension 8200. i dont know exactly what the drivers are ive had the computer for about 3 or 4 yrs. there is a "cyberlink powerdvd" driver as my second disk drive however it worked fine when we first installed it, it occasionally jams and will not open THOUGH. however my logic tells me it is not necessarilly that program because neither drive shows that there is a dvd present.
p.s. i dont know if it matters but i do have windows xp.

~cassieCan you go into F2 at startup to see if those drives are recognized in the BIOS/Setup SCREEN? These would be listed in the secondary section.The primary's are the hard drive(s)

If not then you would need to open the case and make sure the cables are snug. There is a 3 prong power cable and a flat gray data cable for each. Remove and replace each. Then see if thaey show up in the setup.

It sounds at least like drive #2 has a mechanical problem.The mechanics generally LAST longer than the optics with regular use.

Is there any chance those drives could be taken out and tested in another computer to see if they read? They would need to be tested one at a time. To get them out you just have to use the green tabs to release and unhook the cables.

In addition to the previous checks to make sure your drive is working:

- Do you mean to say that when you insert a disk, it does not play automatically?  
If so, remove the disk and open (double-click) the player (Win Media Player, Roxio, or whatever you use).  Insert the disk BACK in the drive.  Wait a few seconds.  
Does it now play?  If not, click on the play button.

Note:  most open players will recognize a DVD when inserted in a drive.  If auto-play is not enabled in your default player, it will not start automatically when you insert a disk.

- I have found that some recent commercial DVDs will try to add their proprietary player/software to your system when you first load the disk.  If they succeed, it can really foul-up your auto-play and other settings.

I've just installed a brand new cdrw in my tower. When I go into MY COMPUTER I do not see the new driver ICON or my DVD ICON from the driver, that was ALREADY installed. I had PUT the installation disk in the CDRW, but without the ICON I couldn't do anything. How can I add the new hardware to the computer so it will read it.
ThanksIs the drive jumpered correctly? Both the existing drive and the new drive if it is a second must be jumpered appropriately.

If two drives, pick one to be the master (MA) and one to be the slave (SL). The jumper pins on the back by the power cables must be SET. Then HOOK it back up, and go into the BIOS/setup screen to see if both drives are recognized - adjust as needed.

I am being clobberred by a memory leak which I have traced to my installation of ASPI, version 4.71.2. This leak consumes the nonpaged pool (kernel) memory at a rate of 160 bytes per call, according to poolmon.exe. This causes my system to crash after about three hours of constant tape drive use (a high-end W2K system with 2GB of RAM, 256MB page pool size).

I have also found a website () that indicates that this memory leak was introduced in ASPI version 4.6 and is present in 4.71, but is not present in aspi 4.5.7 (the version they recommend). But I can't find such an old version anywhere, not even in ADAPTEC's "obsolete" download area.

Anyone know where ASPI 4.5.7 can be found, or have a copy AVAILABLE?
I don't think you will be able to find the older version unless it happens to be on some installation disk. Adaptec's latest version is .72 or .72a and might have fixed the problem. Nero has their own ASPI files. Though I haven't tried it myself, I have heard several say that is what they used to correct some problems ASPI.I have downloaded and tested both the NexiTech evaluation copy of their ASPI driver (from http://www.nexitech.com/site/downloads.shtml) and the Nero ASPI driver (from http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/enu/ASPI_Driver.html). Unfortunately neither of these worked, in the sense that I could not simply replace the Adaptec-written file wnaspi32.dll with either of the third party files, and have my software RUN.

I have tested the Nero and Nexitech drivers with SNOOPER, an ASPI snooper program written by Brian Sawert and distributed with his book, "The Programmers Guide to SCSI" (http://www.sawert.com/scsi/main.html) and with ASPI TAPE SNOOP, written by Till Toenshoff and available from the codeguru website (http://www.codeguru.com/Cpp/W-P/system/article.php/c5657/).

The results were:
The NERO dll caused both programs to hang on start up.  
When using the NexiTech dll, the SNOOPER program failed to detect any hard drives, while ASPI TAPE SNOOP could detect the tape drives, but was unable to read them.

To be fair to Nero and NexiTech, they NEVER claimed that their dlls will work in this manner. In fact, Nero specifically states that their dll can not be used with any programs other than their own. So I have deleted it. The NexiTech dll is intended to be used by software developers in writing their own software, and on purchase they provide software coding examples of its use. But it is apparently sufficiently different from Adaptec's ASPI that software written and tested for the Adaptec dll will not work with the NexiTech dll without modification. I am however still investigating what those modifications are, and so am still evaluating the NexiTech dll as a possible solution.

As far as Adaptec goes, their current version of ASPI is now three years old, which is a long time to leave leaky software in circulation. I can only conclude they aren't too serious about supporting ASPI.

I agree that ASPI as a technology, while not a BAD idea in theory, is a failure in practice.

But I am stuck with it so am still looking for a solution.

Can you borrow another keyboard to check? Is it plugged into the right spot? Is it a PS/2. USB, or wireless model? WHat brand? How do you think this could have HAPPENED? And any more details, of course, WOULD help.You wont need keyboard drivers to log on.
The only information usually used for keyboards is the multimedia aspect.
Otherwise when you plug it in for the first time then how would you be able to log on to install the drivers?

Have you tried F8 to see if it responds to getting Windows advanced startup options screen or getting into the BIOS?

Try CTRL+ALT+DEL twice when you get to the log in screen, this will bring up the old STYLE log in screen asking for username and password fields.

If you can get into the BIOS check USB support is enabled, sometimes works on the likes of Packard BELL and Compaq machines.

When I start W98SE I get an unknown device on my netvista 2276 . When I look at properties in is a ACPI int0800. Any idea what it is? I assume it has to with power but dont find any drivers on the web so far.
This is that netvista 2276 mod 16u that I replaced the HD and loaded W98SE.Still havent got sound even bought a PCI Card and it still silent? The drivers that I downloaded from IBM was an update and did not make the onboard sound work.  I followed the memo put out by Lenova i/e remove sound devices restart hit f1 disable onboard sound and power off install card & load drivers. The only otrher card is a 3380 modem also updated Bios per IBM. This was an urgent update from IBM went ok. I have given up on sound just wondering about this APCI thing. MY restart option dosent work either are they connected?

on my other older pc my device manager is totally screwed. if i go into the device manager it says my display adapter S3, standard floppy disk controller, MS Windows Sound System compatible, Sound Blaster Pro or Compatible (Sound Card) and i guess the main thing is my ACPI BIOS isn't working properly. here it says that its got a Code 2 : Windows cannot load the driver for this device, because the computer reports two ACPI.SYS bus types. I've tried to solve the problem by updating the driver with my win98 CD-Rom but it can't find the files it needs. my S3 says Code 24, the standard floppy disk controller Code 11, MS Wind Sound System Code 16, SOund Blaster Pro Code 28.
Please Help!!!!!!! I've got IMPORTANT stuff on that Pc i dont want to lose!

After adding the sound card did you disable the onboard sound in the BIOS?where do i find the digit code? is net vista like internet explorer? i dont use the I.E. on that pc cause it doesnt have internet.
i didnt add any other hardware to it and it was working fine all along until the weekend!
i MOVED that pc into a different room and when i plugged all the plugs back my sound wasnt working so i disabled the onboard sound, then it worked finde. then i plugged an i-pod into my speaker system and when i was finished with that the sound wouldnt work, so i tried to enable and then disable the onboard sound, didnt work. restarted, and then all of a sudden it told me there was sth wrong with my acpi device. i only had 16 colours and 640x480 pixels and still do. in device manager all my hardware was gone, kinda fixed that, now its just showing problems with the stuff i listed! adding to that it wont find my F:\ drive for my usb connection, tried adding the hardware but nothing worked. if i had my usb connection i could take all the stuff and put it onto this pc and format the other but i dont wanna lose the stuff on there!

Can you get back into the BIOS and set it for defaults? I am not sure why you have a sound card added to it, if it already had onboard sound (and probably some speaker jacks on the back of the machine!)

MANY things have been altered in the BIOS and we will need to get them back as they were. RULE #1 - Don't fiddle with settings if you don't know what they do!

Enough chastising. What are the settings and the options that yousee in the BIOS screen, if you do not have a "revert to DEFAULT" button.

in windows xp professional, if you go to system information, hardware resources, and then conflicts/sharing, should there be any items on the right?  i have many, some with more than one component conflicting.  is this something i could fix?  or is this normal?Look in Device Manager instead.My agp shares with 2 usb ports. *shrug*under device manager, there are no conflicts, so i guess theres no problem?  as for agp, thats the conflict that im worried about under system info.  my agp is sharing an i/o port twice with my motherboard? and share the same memory address a few TIMES with it as well.  my dma is sharing an i/o port with my pci bus as well (while im STILL not to clear about these two terms, one things for sure, i dont have anything plugged into my three open pci slots).  device manager doesnt raise any issues with it, however, having things plugged into slots that have nothing int hem is cause for alarm.

also, i was wondering, i just added daemon tools on my system, and i was wondering if a person could make an image of data, that equals maybe 4.3 gigs of information, and turn it into an mds file, would i be able to delete the RESULTING .iso file and keep the mds file, to save SPACE?  im asking because i need to buy dvd's so i can export data from my computer, but until i do so, i would LIKE to save them virtually via daemon tools without losing the information and keeping them in a format that i can burn later.

i'm trying to save word docs on a disc on the d drive, but i keep getting error saying " i don't have access to d drive and to see my computer administrator".....both i and my b/f are administrators on this computer, but neither of us can save word docs to cd. we can however COPY pics and music with no problem.
i'm using windows xp home edition, cd-r discs, the disc is new (clean).  what can i do ?

Hi, I have a GeForce 6800 NX grahics card and I have recently have had some issues with my graphics.  Once I load a GAME the screen freezez and a whole bunch of little blue rectangles appear all over the screen.  Is this a driver problem?  If so what driver update do I need?www.nvidia.com - if you are updating the drivers, they are all generic dependent on the family of card and OS you are using.

Try system restore to an earlier time.I have just WIPED my computer clean and a short time after that it started to act up.  But I haven't installed recently before it happened.  It is really weird though.  I have been played these GAMES before and nothing unusual happened.  Also intresting is that I can play the new call of duty demo with no problem.  I just updated the driver for my graphics card too. Help!!!!!The installation messed up or something interupted it. Try clearing your TEMP files and do a registry cleaner with Ccleaner and thebn try the installation again. PS make sure that the CD isn't in bad condition.

A friend had the cable guy hook up her internet and he told her that she needed a NIC card, she got one (a second hand one) and someone installed it. The drivers for it have not been loaded. When you GO through the steps it asks you to PLACE the Xp service pack 2 cd in the drive.    No matter what I try it comes back to the Service pack 2 cd. I uninstalled and reinstalled the card and a balloon pops up and says ether net card detected and then another one pops up with the brand of the card named. Still no drivers in sight. The NIC LIGHT is shining bright. I am trying to get her on the internet but am having this problem. Please, any suggestions will help.

That will be important to finding the right drivers, don't you think? That is certainly more relevant than any problems with SP2.
