Yes I'm an embarrassed newbie, TRYING to BACKUP music files saved on hard drive to cd. I have (I think) a standard cd-rom drive, 52X, using windows 98. When I try to copy, told there's no disk in d: drive, even though there is. I bought CD-R disks52X compatible. No format option in file menu of my computer that I can see. Simply the wrong type of disks or...? Any help OFFERED is greatly appreciated. The WHOLE comp. was just reimaged a few weeks ago... Quote

i have na LCD monitor that i set up on my computer it worked for one day but then i turned it off and the next day it didnt work when i plug the power cord into the wall the light that turns red for sleeping and green for active turns green and there is nothing but a black screen i cant turn the monitor off and it seems that the onyl way to turn the monitor off is to pull the plug i dont know if this is a DRIVER or tech PROBLEM or sumthing but it did work for one day but then i turned it off and the next day it didnt work please HELP me solve this problemTest it on another computer. This may not be a driver problem, but I have to start somewhere.

I have an Asus MB with integrated sound.  I can't seem to get any sound into the computer via the LineIn connector.

System sounds and CDs play perfectly, but my recording software Magix Audio Cleaning Lab doesn't get a signal ("Level too low").  I tried Audacity as well, although I just downloaded this program and may not be using it correctly.

However, I have recorded successfully with Audio Cleaning Lab in the past although it's been many months SINCE I've done that.   Seems to me that I had problems in the past as well.

The output of my tape deck is providing a signal and the cable to the LineIn jack also indicates a signal is being supplied.

My device MANAGER show lots of audio codecs, CMI8738... PCI audio devices, IMA ADPCM Audio CODEC, Legacy Audio drivers, etc.  

Can you suggest where I could start?  Could this be a driver problem?  How do I determine which driver it is to replace?

Ottawa, Ontario, CanadaSolved.   The Asus motherboard comes with a CMedia driver and applications on the install CD.  Obviously the motherboard LineIn would "talk" to the audio driver supplied by the motherboard company.

I installed the driver (again) but no LUCK.   I then installed the driver AND applications and everything worked fine after rebooting.

Sigh

But at least it works again after several hours of trying this and that.

i re-installed an OS on a cloned system and the drivers where missing.

When my kids attempt to play some of our older games such as worms 2 or age of empires the programs wont START up and RESPOND with this message, "A required .DLL file, ADVA.DLL, was not found." You may wish to reformat the HDD and reinstall Windows 98 to eliminate all problems CAUSED by the previous user.If all else fails that is what i was planing on doing  :-/

I just bought me a WD Raptor 10,000 RPM hard drive, and it was OEM, so it comes with nothing, its just the hard drive. Anyway, I was wondering whether there are any drivers I should install for this? It's working fine right now, though does it need special drivers? Its using the WinXP drivers that date BACK to 2001.

One thing that ANNOYS me is that because its not IDE, the computer thinks its a removable drive and displays the remove hardware icon in my taskbar. I am TYING to connect my old Gerber Hs15 Plotter to my XP pc, it was connected to my old Nec 386/25, but that pc died. It was running the old Gerber Advantage 3.5 solfware. I have most of the disk, but can't FIND all. The newer Graphic Advantage cost more that I can afford, so I was trying connect this Geber HS15 plotter to my New pc wiith XP on it. I had nvidia miron display driver which was saved on my computer c: drive and as my OS could not start due to a windows protection error, i reinstall windows 98 and then found that video driver missing( due to My Os being reinstalled).

There are lots of display  driver downnload sites for nvidia but how to know which driver my display card use?

Can it be seen from device manager?Unless the videocard is DETECTED and installed by Windows, it can not be seen from the device manager as it would be listed as an unknown device.

You may wish to try the following:

3. Type DXDIAG
4. Monitor tab

What does it say?

Certified: YesDXDIAG can most likely nog recognize its full DETAILS because the driveres are not installed.

Can you inspect:

A. Documentation
B. Box
C. Videocard

for the full name? This will make determining what family it is part of easier. There are three Nvidia families; Geforce/TNT2, Quadro and Riva 128/128ZX.Download and run "Belarc Advisor" or "EVEREST" to get the details.

You may be able to use the driver for the DESKJET 612C but I don't want to steer you wrong, so you can make the FINAL decision.

I looked on the dell website but they have 3 drivers and don't know which 1 it is. You can check if it is by doing the following:

1. Start
2. Run
3. Services.msc
4. Windows Image acquisition.

It should be SET to manual.

Are you the administrator, or do you have administrator privileges?

ALSO be certain that the latest Windows XP updates are installed.

I have 4 computers and 3 of them have adapters connected. On my own one, I can't seem to use my netgear ADAPTER - it just doesn't work! This happened when I was deleting the particians and deleted all of them and started again, anew, in the C: drive. I keep reinstalling the DISC but the "new hardware found" signal isn't  showing up. I even browsed around for it but couldn't find any signs of it being attached even though it makes a sound when I attach it or disconnect it. What should I do about this beacause all of the other computers work just fine with the netgear adapters. Also, they all GET their connection from the main modem and it's connecting fine with the other adapters.

I was wondering if anybody could help me with a problem.I have an Emachine that has a DVD RW AND a CD ROM, both have worked fine for the past year,however LAST WEEK EVERY time I tried to play or RIP a  CD on any of the media players on my computor they would tell me to INSERT  the CD which I already had. Later I also tried my DVD drive and recieved the same response . My computor now can only play MUSIC that has already been RIP or downloaded to my library.  ThanksClean DVD and CD-ROM drives with a lense cleaning kit.

I hope someone will have an answer to this problem. I had an Nvidia sound card which departed this life a couple of weeks ago So I replaced it (or had it replaced) with a Sound Blaster Live 24bit.  However when I plug my hi fi system into the 'Line-in'  socket I get no 'musical' sound just a noise (sounds as if it could be interference.) Nothing external i.e phone, computer, lamps, printer, scanner has moved and the Nvidia card worked fine. CREATIVE Labs suggested uninstalling and re-installing - no change after this procedure! So Help please. Thanks Tian_shiType dxdiag in the run box and test for sound..or update the audio drivers...........  Thanks for your so prompt reply - I have tried both of your suggestions. The dxdiag shows no problems - all the sounds come thru O.K. When I try to update drivers I am told that the driver I have is the best found.  The noise comes thru' on the sound card, even when the hi-fi isn't switched on, as soon as the sound card is 'unmuted'. (But only when the jack is in the socket). I have bought a new connection for the hi-fi to 'Line-in'- hoping that the problem was in that, but no joy.

Tian-shiSee if updating the audio codecs helps.....type msinfo32 in the run box....and then click the + components then click error devices......any thing listed.....just curious....did you plug the jack plug in the right hole??Hi Merlin_2 Thank you for worrying away at this little problem of mine. I have looked at msinfo32 -problem devices - nothing is listed. My line of attack has now shifted to my sound system - I have today taken it to an engineer who can check if there is anything wrong with that. I have my doubts as it worked O.K. when I had the Nvidia sound card but as I am at my WITS end I can only try a different strategy. Have you looked for plugs that can act as filters? They may be SHIPPED with the soundcard itself.Thanks to you all for all your help and suggestions. The sound card is working with a different Hi-Fi system !!! So - that's the first time I have heard of a sound card having a preference or not being compatible. Ok, I had to reformat my COMPUTER, and I MADE it go from Windows 98 to Windows 98SE (my step dad did it really) and now it says I can only have 2 colors or 16 colors, as opposed to 256 or whatever the other choice is, I can't remember. Anyway, it won't let me change the colors, or the screen size.... And I have no idea what to do, but I've been "researching" this for a few hours and everywhere else says something about downloading the driver (whats that?) for it and it should work. My video thingie says "Standard PCI Graphics Adapter (VGA)"..... Help... Please... You NEED to install the video drivers......you may have the disks to do this .....have a look around......drivers disks....recovery disks.....look for the makers disks.....

I have an emachine that I purchased used.  It runs good with just a few issues......theres no sound......I went to emachine home page to download drivers (didn't get the op system cds with computer.) I can download them on my hp machine, but they come as a zipped file and when I download them to a cd and PLACE the cd into the emachine, I can view the files but cannot open them.

Do you have WinRar or WinZip installed ..........you will need an extraction application to unzip the driver .

dl65  ......on  the bottom right there should be  speaker icon......click it....and see if the sound is turned down or muted......what emachince is it.......Theres no sound speaker in the bottom right hand corner.  The machine is a emachine t1100.  I should have mentioned that it originally came with win. xp., but we purchased the machine w/o a hdd.  We installed a 20 gb hdd (western digital) and then installed win 98Se.  I loaded on my internet service thinking I could just download it to that machine, and bypass loading thru cd...BUT it has a standard 56000bps X2 modem that also is not working, therefore, I'm unable to connect to the internet.  It's gotta be drivers.if you remove the modem  from the case and reboot....and shut it down again......now replace the modem and re-boot......window  may find the driver for it...type dxdiag in the RUN box....and test for sound.it will tell you more!.....you may also need a video driver??as you have said...........drivers.Marlene2.... You are correct....... it is probably a driver issue .

Thanks for the quick response.....I'll give it a try and post back.Ok guys this is where I'm at now......while investigating this emachine I have noticed that on the back of the pc there are three bays (not sure thats what they're called) Two of them have cards PLUGGED in, one of them is empty.  The one card has a model number of MA560CI which I did a search on and is the modem.  I unplugged it, shut down the pc, restarted and it didn't bring up any new hardware found.  The other card has a model number DL10038D which I found is a network card.  So now I'm thinking the middle one, which is missing is probably the sound card? At any rate the modem still is not working. When I go to Systems, Device Manager, Sound, video and GAME controller, it shows "MPU-401 compatible".  Also in device manager, Theres a yellow ? mark by "other devices" I opened that  and theres

pci communication device
pci ethernet controller
pci multimedia audio device

they all have yellow ? marks by them

winxp comes with an unzip program.......save them to a folder........then go tbck to the device manager  right modem.update driver.......and do the rest of them the same.....ok, I'm downloading them again...they're downloading as a zipped file....once downloaded if I open them on my hp machine are they going to cause conflicks with my system, or will I be able to transfer them to cd once opened and then delete files off hp machine?transfer them to a cd......now open them up in the emachince......to a folder.....the should really go to  siystems drivers folder.....this does not matter as winxp will ask you to search for them...... I have a Radeon 9550 card have alot of problems with lock ups,playing games. Did the driver updates still the same thing happens.  Could there be another cause for this other then the card.  Already had the card replaced,my computer is BRAND new and fast 3.2g intel4.

Try tuning the catalyst drivers that came with it.. Try turning off special stuff until you get it just right.When you say lock up, Do it go to a Blue screen?

Like already stated, it may just be your game or games. Get the patches then try

Hi everyone....I need to reinstall my WINDOWS. I need both windows98 and windows XP. I think that Windows XP will auto INSTALL all the drivers which INCLUDES VGA and sound but Windows98 wont..!!!!
So I need both driver FILES for both windows98 and windows XP.

Hey everyone. I've been trying to find drivers for my DVD+RW for QUITE some time now. I don't have them on disk, I didn't recieve them when I bought it. I can't burn or play DVDs with it. So, I searched the net over and over and can't seem to find anything. The problem is that I don't really know the NAME of the manufacturer. I think it might be just a generic DVD+RW. Anyway, here is the info I have on it:

ATAPI DVD+RW 8x4x12 (ATAPI isn't an actual brand is it? I thought it just had to do with the specs of the DVD drive)

You may need to find the defect elsewhere as any CD/DVD-ROM device should automatically work.

What are the precise symptoms of your problem and when have they first commenced?Well, it works as a CD drive and a CD+RW automatically with the installed windows drivers. But, from what I understand you need a DVD decoder or the drivers for the specific drivers to enable DVD functions.

It hasn't worked with DVDs since I first bought it, for the reason above, I would think.The exact error is just the basic:

Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because a compatible DVD decoder is not installed on your computer.You may need to download decoders such as Divx and AC3 (Audio Decoder). I am not very knowledgeable when it comes to these decoders, but I suggest you look for WinDVD and PowerDVD. Both are often SHIPPED for free (limited capability versions) with ATI and Nvidia videocards.Ah, yes I do have an ATI card. I'll look through my cds again for that. Thanks for your help.Do return if your problem is not solved by installing additional decoders.

I am having problems getting my sblive 5.1 (soundblaster live 5.1) card to work.  I downloaded the drivers for it and the driver program keeps saying that "setup was UNABLE to detect an sblive 5.1 card on your system" and then setup shuts down.  I have got the card in the PCI SLOT and windows ME device manager is detecting the sound card but the friggin driver proggy isnt. what can i do? My computer closes games while I'm playing them and sometimes takes me to the BLUE Screen of Death. On the blue screen it SAYS at the top Driver_IRQL_Not_Less_or_Equal and on the BOTTOM it says Stop: 0x000000D1 (0x2EA9EE3D, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x2ea9ee3d) also last NIGHT it the blue screen said ctaud2k.sys and portcls.sys.
