Solve : Driver to Flash Drive?

Answer»

Can an driver I want to load to another computer be downloaded from one computer using  a flash drive and installed on another computer from the flash drive and if so how is that done?  I am trying to help someone I know who has this question.
Thanks for your helpYes. No PROBLEM with that. Actually, I just downloaded motherboard & video card drivers (for Windows 7 64-bit) using my friend's computer and save it in my USB Flash Drive. Then TRANSFERRED it to my own computer and installed it.Excellent!! Thank you. IowaMrs. I am not quite clear of exactly what the process it is that you want to follow to get this driver. Both routes are possible via your METHOD. Is the driver already in existence on the "other" computer and stored somewhere and you want to make a copy? Or do you want to use the "other" computer to go to the particular driver site and download it to your flash drive? The 2nd is a bit easier and the method i would recommend. Simply have the flash drive plugged into the "other" computer and once located direct the download of the driver to the flash drive. Bring the flash drive to the destination computer and once recognized (the flash drive) install from the driver ICON visible in the open window of the flash drive.truenorthYour 2nd explanation was what I was looking for and has cleared everything up for me about being able to down load a driver to a flash drive. Thank you for your response Truenorth.  It is what I thought, but just wanted to be sure.

Solve : "no drives attached to the fasttrack controller, the BIOS is not installed"?

Answer»

hi, i am having problems with my pc, last time it worked fine was on the 20th of december 2011 and the last time it worked with problems (shutting down randomly) on the 23rd of december 2011 and from 24 its been having problems with the drives "no drives attached to the fasttrack controller, the BIOS is not installed". i had dual boot-in off which both were windows 7 ULTIMATE but on this day they were not booting up so i cleaned install windows 7 again from the same disc and the screen got FROZEN at the final step so i restarted the pc (great, now i have no OS installed) and all of a sudden my 2 drives wont show up on the pc preventing from installing windows and the messages keep on showing. so now i am stuck with a pc, i cant do anything on, ive tried disabling the onboard promising controller but no luck, even tweaked with some other options still problem not solved.

here i have a link HTTP://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/   with some pictures of my pc and what happens when.

the pc does boot from windows 7 disc (when its in) but when at choose drive to install os on, there are none (also shown in the images).

hope someone can help. if i have not provied any info please ask, look at the pictures, in the link.

i am in a library asking this so i NEED my pc BACK asap, as i need to complete my work in a week and got a lot of it.

note; i bought this pc off ebay, it had windows xp and was working fine even after i clean installed windows 7, it was ok for an month or 2 but couple of days ago the problems occurred. what i did last was uninstalled a logic camera and after the pc started to go crazy. i also have included pictures of the 5 CD's i got with the pc.

thanks.Your Promise IDE controller has issues-it has issues with its BIOS causing problems when you attempt to install Windows via your DVD drive. It also seems to have issues detecting your DVD drive in the first place. Consider troubleshooting it in another computer or simply replacing it.

You can't install a 64-bit version of Windows on your 32-bit computer. To the OP: if your Windows 7 install disk has a file called Bootmgr.efi in the root folder then it is the 64-bit version. This may be a silly question: on your Flickr photostream, I see photos of your Belkin and Soundblaster install disks, but a curious omission is a photo of the Windows disk. Did you forget? As Transfusion notes, a Pentium 4 won't run a 64 bit OS.

Solve : RE: Windows 2000 Professional?

How do I find out if there are any Win2k support drivers for AMD SB6**, SB7**. SB8**. or SB9** chipsets? Google would be a good place to start. Also AMD forums.

Google would be a good place to start. Also AMD forums.

I've ALREADY used up many hours of library computer time over the past SIX weeks of wasted effort on Google searches. Already posted on amd.com/forum, & amdzone.com, without conclusion. Any other ideas? I'd like to do this custom-build before I'm too senile to enjoy it! I've already aquired all the hardware info needed on my other two OS targets (XP Pro & Linux Mint), but EVEN such basic Win2K info seems impossible to track down. And yes, I've located the Microsoft sites' Windows 2000 hardware list...zero mention of AMD chipsets or Gigabyte motherboards...tells absolutely everything else though. Why win2k?  The more out of date an OS is the less support you are going to find for it.Get real. Why would consumer hardware makers devote a lot of time to producing drivers for a version of Windows that is 12 years old, lifecycle expired (since 13 July 2010) and which even before it was obsolete was mainly a business and server OS?

If those are all Sandy Bridge, the answer is No.  Win2k needs something not produced within the last 10 years.  If you're trying to install on a new motherboard, it probably won't work.

Solve : Installing video adapter driver on Win 98?

Answer»

Having a difficult time with video adapter (without it I cannot get on Internet EXPLORER).  Using Belarc advisor I see I'm looking for S3 TRIO 64 V2-DX/GX (775/785)...found one dated March 98 on the S3 SITE, which is older than the one I have, May 98; so it doesn't help.
It also lists Diamond Stealth PRO when I right click on the desktop and go to properties, but I have not found anything on that one.
I guess I have done everything correctly; downloaded the zip file (also downloaded Winzip and installed on the Compaq DP 400).  Unzipped the files, device manager, adapter, drivers, update, browse to unzipped file and since the file is older than what's there, nothing happens.  I had no luck looking at driversguide.  Is there any other place to find a driver?  Or does anyone have any other suggestions?Re your colors displaying bad or something surely a video graphics cant stop you from getting on to the internet. Why when I reformat my computer and REINSTALL my OS no need to tell what it is It stays on 16 colors- not 16bit only 2 or 16 colors. I still manage to get online. Why do you think it is your video card that is causing you not to get online? Do you have a spyware scanner? Registry cleaner? Virus scanner? This was a very common video adapter on IBM PC300's and the driver is available on the net. I've had to go get it before. You do have to get he right one for your specific O/S. Is this the correct type of machine? I don't recall Compaq using that, as they used ATI Rage on their Deskpro's.

I agree that the video adapter has nothing to do with Internet. Are you on dialup or cable/dsl?

It looks like driverguide has it, and there are a few more possibilities:

http://www.video-drivers.com/drivers/87/87139.htm

http://bebits.bebits.com/app/202

http://www.softlookup.com/driveauthor.asp?id=562

If that doesn't work out, just do a little google search. I did:

http://www.video-drivers.com/drivers/87/87139.htm

Thank you for responding...I really appreciate it.  I probably could have been a little more clear.
Windows98, this was a fresh reinstall and I was able to get on the Internet, just not able to update Windows.  First I had to update to IE6 but could not (even with a CD)...an error message would come up indicating a display error that always seems to go away after I load a newer video adapter driver or graphic driver (??)  I don't always know what I'm doing, but if it has worked in the past, I usually try it again.  (Not very exact am I?)
GX1_Man, thanks friend!  It works!!  I had gone to some of those same sites, but could only find the Windows 95 (even though they said they were for Windows 98 and XP)  I am now finished updating the computer.  It was one of those I've tried many times, off and on, and just could not give up on it.  I'm very glad to be able to put in back in a classroom.Be sure and save that file somewhere. You will need it again someday, and it's easier to find in a desk drawer than on the internet! Glad you are fixed.  ANY drivers that are downloaded should be kept somewhere easily accessible whether you burn them to CD or keep them on a second or external hard drive . Always keep any drivers  you download.

Solve : nVIDIA driver?

Answer»

I'm trying to find the driver that supports:

nVIDIA GeForce4 TI 4600 (MSI G4Ti4600)   I reformatted drive and reloaded ME and the graphics are distorted.  I'm thinking I need to reinstall the driver for this card.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
MarleneYou probably should just re-install it. Or, re-configure your video settings to something lower. Also, check to make sure you are on 32-BIT.Here's the latest driver from nVidia for your system: HTTP://www.nvidia.com/object/win9x_81.98.html

I disagree with the previous post's comment about 32 bit.  He's referring to the 32-bit setting for color, the highest setting.  That's not going to resolve anything for you.  You could set your color at 16 bit and your eyes will probably not detect any difference whatsoever in your DISPLAY, compared to 32 bit.
Thanks for the imput.  I'm downloading the driver now (big download).  Anyway, the suggestions on CHANGING to 32 bit or anything else for that matter is not an option.  Since rebooting the only thing listed is 16 bit.  Before doing the reboot, she was running in a 256k true color.  Make any sense as to why we've only got 16 bit as an option now?
Thanks,
Marlenesoybean

downloaded the driver you suggested.........IT WORKED BEAUTIFUL.......Thank-you soooooooo much.
Saved me alot of time and headaches.

You're the best!
Thanks again for your time.

Solve : Missing CD Driver?

Answer»

Hello all.

There are two computers in my house, the brand new one (Which I'm using now) and the old one (Which is almost dead, but still works). Today I had DECIDED to use a CD to transfer files from a very important folder from the old to the new.

All went well until I went to My Computer. I FOUND My Documents, C DRIVE, and Floppy A Drive, but no D or E drive. I rebooted, and found them again. 30 seconds later, they disapeared.

So I went to Device Manager. No sign of a CD Drive. I went to Add New Hardware. Again, the same thing. Even my friends are stumped. The only thing that makes this even tougher is that I'm being timed, too. Later this week, a person will COME to fix the wireless router and wipe the hardrive of the old computer for it to run like new.

Now, does anyone know how to get the CD Drive back?Google for cdgonelmao no TRY cd gone
What's so funny?
cdgone returns far more appropriate links then cd gone.
Check it out lmao.

Solve : MIDI assistance?

Answer»

I'm not sure if this is the correct forum. I think it probably is. I am looking for an "old skool" MIDI synthesizer that PLAYS sounds like the ones that were on systems that had Windows 95, the "latest and greatest Windows" of that time. Basically, I have a couple of games that play MIDI sounds and they sound FREAKY with the new synthesizers. Where would I find MIDI synthesizers like the old ones?It depends on what sound card or chip you have. Look in device manager or download Everest to see.

http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.htmlDevice manager says:

Sound Blaster LIVE! 24-bit
Creative Technology Ltd.

It also handles MIDI and MIXING. Status is enables and functional.

Driver version for my sound card is 5.12.1.512

Is that all you need to know, or is there more?Thagt should be enough, but there may be other incompatibilities with old games and new hardware. LOTS of variables. What games and what are your hardware specs? The two games I have in mind are

Sim City 2000 (I have 3000, but I play in 2000 as well so I can drive in the cities)

and

Hover! Downloaded because I can't find my 95 disk.

My computer's total specs are

OS: Windows XP SP2
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 Processor
Memory: 1 GB
Video: GeForce 6600
Hard Drive: 200 GB, 189 GB freeThat's a lo of horsepower for those!

Are you running in Compatibility Mode?I am in 256 colors for Hover! but not for Cim City 2000.

And I got that horsepower for games like Knights of the Old Republic. They're memory eaters. I am playing the old games for the nostalgia, mainly.I understand. I am playing SImCity 3000 and others on a PII-400 with a genuine SB16 ISA card. It rocks!

So, I was curious, is there a way to revive the old MIDI sounds? Like I said, it just sounds creepy.

You see, I got Hover from here because I found the 95 disk. Of course, broken. The sounds are CREEPY, and no program other than Hover! can open it, so it would be pointless to attach it.Can you convert from the real MIDI files to something else like .wav's?No. The are .muz files, and when I looked up the extension, it said it was a special MIDI extension just for Hover! to use.And since then .muz are special video files for some programs. You may be stuck there. Sorry, no clue.Oh, well. Thanks for giving it a shot. Actually, I'm a little surprised the games even work. But if I have to put up with creepy music, I will. Spooky music for a spooky game?   Naw. It actually isn't bad music in itself, but you know, after hearing what it was like on Win95, and hearing it today, it's the difference that sounds spooky.

Great. I played with the sound settings and now I hear no music. I'll have to re-download.

Solve : gateway 1100 restore disc??? help please..or drive?

Answer»

I have a gateway 1100 i am fixing up. the machine CAME with no restore disc set. i believe it originally comes with windown ME. I prefer windows 2000. I put windows 2000 on the machine and it is working FINE and i FOUND drivers online for the sound and the rest works all except one thing....

the battery monitor.. the battery monitor says it is on ac power even when on battery...so you have no idea when the thing is gonna just die while you are working....this is not good.

I contacted gateway support but they told me restore DISCS are no longer AVAILABLE for that model...

I hear with a restore disc you can just install drivers on your new op system...or if worse came to worse..i could just put it back to me...

so does anybody have a restore disc i could get an image of ? any help appreciated.

p.s. there is nothing on driverguide.com for the battery monitor of this machine.

thanks,
mark :-?Have you checked the Gateway site for drivers for that model?

http://support.gateway.com/s/Mobile/Solo_Series/P1100/P1100nv.shtml

or with Windows 2000 under Colntrol Panel/Power Options you will find what you want.

You don't need restore disks.

Solve : Firmware problems.?

Answer»

I have a DVD Burner that's not working with a full windows installation.

I know it works because I was ABLE to use it to INSTALL Windows XP and all my drivers. I can use it outside of XP (IE I can BOOT from it) and I can use it right after a fresh XP install (IE I can use it to install all the drivers.)

I'm guessing it's an issue with the firmware, but I'm not absolutely sure. Perhaps one of you guys could help me figure out the problem.Does it show in Windows Explorer?
Does it show in Devices Manager without any errors?Yeah, it shows up in both.

I can even put an audio CD in and auto-run will occur, but if I tell it to play it will freeze.Try it in another machine...if it does the same thing it needs replaced.
Brand new dual layer DVD burners are about 40 Bucks newegg.com

P.S. You could also try a new ribbon cable for a few Bucks. You may also try:
1. Uninstall drive. It'll be reinstalled upon reboot.
2. Go to Device Manager, CLICK a "+" sign next to IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers.
You'll see TWO items:
- ATA Channel0 (or Primary Channel)
- ATA Channel1 (or Secondary Channel)
Right click on each of them, and click Uninstal. Confirm.
Restart Windows. They'll be automatically reinstalled.

Solve : Need help with motherboard BIOS Update?

Answer»

Recently purchased a new duo core cpu with info from intel, my mother boards manf., that my RC410 mobo can take duo core. After installing the new processor my computer wouldnt BOOT. Reinstalled old processor and found i might need a BIOS update. Intel informed my my comp has a RC410 mobo, but i cant find this mobo on any website, intel included. Every where i go to find out what to do i see "go to wimsbios.com" but even there i dont see anything remotely close to a mobo called RC410. Can anyone help me or point me where i can find a BIOS update for a mobo listed as RC410? I think you'll find that's your motherboard's chipset.
What make/model is your PC, or is it self built?

Welcome to the forums. It was a EMACHINE T3506, everything inside is new except the motherboard and processor. If you could help me i would be eternally grateful! I can't actually find that model although I'll keep looking. Is the motherboard model possibly 4006117R? I found this listed on a parts website for my Emachine T3506Got it, click here to download.
Read this first.
Hope this helps.Well BIOS updated succesfully, processor still wont run. This would be the second processor ive returned and im beggining to wonder if they really knew what they were telling me when they said my motherboard could run dual processor. I thought they would know being they made the motherboard but who knows, anyway if anyone kind find some evidence stating clearly my mobo can or cant run dual processor please post so. Thanks for your help so FAR, youve been GREAT!Is this the original eMachines PSU in there ? ?
If so that may ALSO be the issue...finally found it on the web, my mobo does not support duo core, so intel and emachine must of been having fun jerking me around. now im trying to decide if i should put in mobo or just buy a new towerI just finished building a new dual-core system and it's a screamer....got it in under budget of $800.00 U.S. without a monitor.

I'm in the process of doing another one for a good friend. With an older system like that I'd go for a brand new system . . . in the long run it'll be much less hassle and will save cash too.

Solve : Having Display Problems! Please Help !!?

Answer»

just got a bran new HP computer. Payed TOP price (over $2000) I have a NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT Graphics Card and an HP w2007 Wide Screen Flat Panel Monitor, with 1680x1050 Resolution. Well all of my text is very small (I know how to fix that, but it shouldn't be a default SETTING), and All of my Pictures/Images are slightly fuzzy/Blury, and I don't know how to fix that, and I don't know why it's like that!

I had another computer before this one(A Dell Inspiron530) with a 22 inch WIDESCREEN flat panel monitor with even higher resolution than this one, but it had an integrated vidoe card, and the images were crystal clear, and the text and icons were normal size.

When I go to NVIDIA CONTROL Panel, there are several "Adjust Color Settings" and the Image Sharpening setting is set all the way at the bottom, and that is the only one that I can not change, but it appears as if that is the setting that I need to change.

Does anyone know why this is like this, or how can I fix it? Welcome to the forums.

Try adjusting the resolutions by Right Clicking the Desktop, going to Properties and clicking the Settings tab.For best results, you should set your video card's resolution to the native resolution of the monitor. The higher the resolution the smaller things will get on your screen. You can increase DPI but some apps won't look right. You should definitely set your video card to you monitors native resolution, which is 1680 x 1050 / 60 Hz.

If you hold control and scroll your mouse you should be able to make your icons bigger on your desktop. You can also use your monitor to adjust the sharpness level. Its actually preferred to use your monitor to make color adjustments rather than the video card. Good luck. You could try to contact Nvidia.  I have Nvidia and it doesn't have shared memory, but everything is perfect.

or change resolution.

Solve : Audio Only Coming From One Speaker?

Answer»

Hi everyone-

I am running Windows XP Professional (Service Pack 2) on an HP nc8430 laptop.  Recently, I've noticed that audio from the built in speakers is only coming from one of them, the left speaker.  I am not aware of any changes I made for this to happen; up till now my audio has been working fine, coming out from both speakers.

Does anyone KNOW what the problem could be?  I'm not even sure if it's a driver issue, it could be a hardware problem, or something totally different. If it was I doubt it be the pc hardware.  There just dual speakers right?  Check the connector that feeds to the right speaker, see if its not loose or spray an ELECTRICAL cleaner on the plug.  Are "dual speakers" just the built-in speakers within the laptop?  If so, yes, that's what's on my laptop.

squall, there are no wires to the speakers as they are built in.

Here's a picture of the laptop I have: http://www.notebookreview.com/assets/14619.jpgSorry I missed that it was, dual refers too any two sets of the same object.  Like if you have more then one cd reader.  SADLY i can't help then an recommened some pc support that does this work in your area, or if anyone is laptop savy here.Try plugging some headphones into the headphone jack and see if you get sound in both sides or just one side. If it still comes in only one side, there is probably an issue with the sound hardware itself. If the sound is fine, one of the wires connecting the speakers to the sound card internally has probably broken or come loose. If this is the case, you will need to find someone with a knowledge of laptops, wiring, and soldering... unless you yourself can do it.

Poppycock. There are still wires, whether they're built in or not. And those wires can still break/come loose. Thanks man yes that is TRUE an even thought I dont think thats what I was think but rather the cable that runs from the main one to the subwoffer to the other speaker is what he thought I was really refering to or somethingmake sure something didn't jostle the balance setting or something. It would definitely be embarassing to open up a laptop to check the wires only to discover later that the balance was simply set in one direction... AH yes. Very good point, BC.I would check the balance in your audio properties as well. Someone or something may have slid it to either the left of the right. Check you volume properties by double clicking on the little speaker in the taskbar.  Make sure the centering bar is in the middle.  If that is not the problem, maybe you need to get a new speaker (however you do that)

Reinstalling video card driver won't hurt.Hows the cooling?Do you play any other games and has this occurred then or is it only with Warcraft?

Also, what is the exact complete error message you see on the blue screen?I don't know the exact error message it just said that the Nv4_disp driver was malfunctioning on such and such line....It popped up really fast then it restarted. And my cooling is excellent it runs at room temperature 25 DEGREES Celsius constantly. And YES this error occurred on one other game Counter Strike Source. But besides that it's been going good. I'm assuming, it just happened couple of times, not some reoccurring problem? Precisely.Eh, nothing to worry about...I guess

Solve : XP Wireless driver for Atheros AR928X LAP TOP?

Answer»

I have a Atheros AR928X LAP TOP which originall y comes with  VISTA.
I have installed XP INSTEAD. However I can't find the Wireless driver for XP.
Emergency-Help!It is actually already (Should be) installed. It is a service that you have to turn on. It is called "Wireless ZERO CONFIGURATION."

This link should suffice with directions on setting it up:
http://www.home-network-help.com/wireless-zero-configuration.html

This other link may be helpful:
http://tech.ifelix.net/2007.html

After you turn the server on, look at the tray (near the clock at the bottom right), and you should see a little connection sign.

Make sure you check the security of the network, you may have to change the security type to get in.

Post if you need more help. Quote from: jblab on May 23, 2010, 04:51:00 PM

Not true, the WZC interfaces with the card driver to provide and AUTOMATE connection to different access points; if youdon't install the driver for the hardware, then WZC has nothing to interface with.

Try this driver:

Solve : Problem with Buffalo DVSM-PN58U2V external dvd-drive?

Answer»

Hi! So i bought a buffalo DVSM-PN58U2V DVD MULTI DRIVE. The package says that it installs automatically when connected into the computer, but when i plug it in, instead my computer recognises it as Optiarc DVD RW AD-7560S USB DEVICE, tries to install its drivers, and fails.
I have a 32bit vista HOME premium.Leave it connected and reboot. What happens?nothing, after the reboot its just like before, windows still recognises it as Optiarc DVD RW AD-7560S USB DEVICE.The device itself works fine with other computers, i tried it with my other computer wich runs a windows xp, and it worked fine.Does it work PROPERLY? What shows up in device manager? In device manager it just thinks that the device is Optiarc DVD RW AD-7560S USB DEVICE and says that it cant find the proper drivers.Does it work?Since Buffalo don't actually make drive hardware, my guess is that the drive in that device is actually a Sony Optiarc and that Windows is RECOGNISING the hardware accordingly. If it works I wouln't worry.

1. Optiarc AD-7560

2. Buffalo DVSM-PN58U2V

If it is brand NEW, I suggest you return it for refund/replacement but wait - just a thought... does it have a power supply or is it USB powered? It maybe that your USB port is not up to the task (either because it was already damaged or because it is not designed for powering external drives) We do not KNOW what kind of PC you have (is it a laptop?)

Yes, it is usb powered, it has a dc in, but i couldnt find a 5v adapter in my house.
This is not a laptop but actually i remember having a similiar problem with some device that recharged using a usb cable.
I hope this is the problem, i will buy a 5v adapter and try again tomorrow Quote from: Frag on May 30, 2010, 02:52:46 PM

It probably is the problem. a USB cable can only provide a few hundred milliwatts of power.

You beat me to it, Patio.
I was just gonna post that, but, then remembered that some new laptops have the CMOS battery accessible on the bottom of the case, not unlike the RAM.  I don't remember which ones, but it was a surprise to me.  Never could understand why they didn't do that years ago.
The memory module/coin-cell battery cover is #3

Not particularly- laptops still have CMOS batteries.

my old thinkpad has three batteries (well, ideally) a MAIN battery (which exploded) a standby battery (which also exploded) and a CMOS battery, which thankfully has not exploded.

I use exploded with some hyperbole. They just SORTA started leaking.

For laptops, most of the password advice is sound, of course, the password may just as easily be a HD password, which would immensely COMPLICATE things.

thnx, would it clear a latitude d630? no the HDD isnt password protected well it is, but she knew the p/w to that so it has no p/w anymore. Its the bios :/On most laptops the CMOS battery is not usually easy to GET to...
This is by design...to discourage theft and to make it difficult to re-set the machine.

This is also why we don't ADVISE here at CH on how it should be done.

Solve : directix?

i need some help with a driver.
i want too play a game but it gives me a error
"to play this game you have to make that you have Directix 9c"
i have directix 9 10 and 11 but it still doesn't work is there somebody that can help me out...Well DirectX 9.0c is the latest offical release for Windows XP.

DirectX 10 is for Windows Vista, Win7 and above.
DirectX 11 arrives with Windows 7 and latest graphic cards.

There is a hacked version of DirectX 10 for WinXP, as people got fed up with Microsoft saying it's only for Vista crap. Also games like HALO for Vista only have been hacked to work on WinXP. Crysis has been patched for DirectX 10 on WinXP, etc and runs faster than Vista, lol. If you are using these versions or a dummy fake version, it might however cause issues with some games.

Run the DirectX End-User Runtime released from Microsoft for DirectX 9.0c.

Some games might have their own DirectX files, having their own DirectX installer found on the CD. You COULD also attempt to install that to see if it resolves the problem.

Make sure your graphic card and sound card are supported with DirectX 9+. Quote from: Azzaboi on May 30, 2010, 05:48:56 PM

Also if you believe you have installed DX10 and 11 in XP you should probably do a malware scan. Some of them just sorta copy a few files and change the version string in the registry, and some of them install a DX9 Wrapper for DX10 (which makes it seem like you have dx10) but most of them are just thinly disguised malware.
BC Programmer - DirectX 10 was actually released for WinXP, it started out from warez/hacking and became quite popular that Gaming enthusiasts released their own versions. People hated to be forced to update to Vista, and it's was the only think missing.

Falling Leaf Systems, who developed Halo, was forced to release it for Vista only, when they said it's Bullsh*t and could work on previous systems like WinXP. Some of the developers went against Microsoft's monoploy and released patched version for WinXP. "No longer will you have to upgrade your OS and video card(s) to play the latest games," revealed Cody Brocious, Lead Engineer on the Alky Project.

Currently, the download is available via Falling Leaf Systems, weighing in at 824 KB and contains written instructions on how to install the files.

http://news.softpedia.com/news/DirectX-10-Available-Outside-of-Windows-Vista-53066.shtml
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Programming/Components-Libraries/Alky-DirectX-Compatibility-Libraries.shtml
http://www.techmixer.com/download-directx-10-for-windows-xp/

DirectX 10 runs faster on WinXP too, giving basically the same effects. Falling Leaf Systems was unfortunately shutdown, but their drivers live on.
I was suggesting just checking to make sure you haven't got a fake version by mistake like BC said, and there is no DirectX 11 for WinXP yet. There is no DirectX10 for XP.

There are torrents that claim to have DX10, but half of them are just a few Vista DirectX DLLs ZIPPED up. Instructions say something like "copy to your windows folder, now u have directx10 and your games run faster"

I even found one that claimed to allow you to play, say, Crysis and Ultra High (which usually required DX10) and, when you ran DXdiag after installation, it said DirectX 10.1, so there is NO way its fake, right?

Except the installed DirectX version is simply retrieved from the registry. None of the files listed in the DXDiag "files" tab are actually DX10 files. All most of them do is copy a few files and change the listed version string in the registry. That's it. the DLLs are never actually used- they may as well be empty. In some cases I bet they are.(more likely they were simply scoffed from a Vista install or something)

Even the Best case scenario is that these "directX 10 on XP" things are simply DirectX9 Wrappers so that programs can use Directx9 as if it was directX10.

of course this results in the fact that using "DX10" features of a program are markedly slower(because they are all being translated to DX9) and still look the same. That is, the only thing that changes is what the program (and apparently the user as well) thinks they are using. DX9 is still doing the rendering, because there simply is no DX10 for XP.

Think about it. DX9 is a good ~100MB. and yet, getting DX10 is only around 800K? no chance.

The best case scenario is installing a DX10->DX9 wrapper, which is exactly what you have linked. It doesn't add any DirectX10 functionality- it just wraps all DX10 calls into the best equivalent DX9 calls.

This also means that no matter what, it will be slower then the equivalent DX9 calls done by the game, since the game is interfacing with what it thinks is DirectX10, which in turn uses Nucleus.dll to delegate functionality to either DX9 or attempt to emulate DX10 functionality.

Because any DX10-specific features are either emulated in software (nucleus.dll) or simply ignored, it's hard to believe any claim that it works "just as well as it does on Vista/7" because that simply is not the case.

Also: don't try to debate wether it's a wrapper. a simple dumpbin /imports on any of the dll's or a dumpbin /EXPORTS on nucleus.dll reveals this to be the case quite clearly.

Falling Leaf Systems, who developed Halo

Halo was developed by Bungie.

Falling Leaf Systems

On the heels of the merger also comes the announcement of Falling Leaf Systems’ intention to provide compatibility software to allow Windows XP users to play two upcoming, Windows Vista-only titles: Halo 2 and Shadowrun. These games are available for immediate preorder through the companies’ website. Orders will be fulfilled by Amazon.com, and those who purchase will receive a free copy of the compatibility software within a few months.

“Microsoft has, in typical Microsoft fashion, decided to launch their forced migration onslaught in full force with the release of two games that will only run on Windows Vista,” stated Thomason. “First they claim that it was impossible to implement DirectX 10 compatibility atop Windows XP, and now they also want us to believe that they couldn’t successfully launch two DirectX 9 based titles on XP either. We plan to expose both theories as patently false.”

http://www.prleap.com/pr/77567/

Falling Leaf continues to work toward providing a set of compatibility libraries which will allow DirectX 10 based games to run on operating systems and hardware for which they weren’t originally intended.

ps. I've played Halo 2 before on WinXP, works fine and compared it against Vista, graphic wise pretty much the same, FPS performance was better on WinXP...

Okay so even if it's just a wrapper then, you miss my point that the post owner might have it installed and you need to be aware there is a valid working version and a number of fake versions of it floating around.

Solve : Epson Stylus CX5500 driver?

wmk, "1. Microsoft XPS Document Writer
2. Sent To OneNote 2007"
What are they? Do they actually exist? If not something you have or need. Delete them and then try to:
1.Print a double sided document using the cx5500(assuming it too is still in the list)
2.With the 2 above deleted try to uninstall and reinstall the CX5500 as per the manual and my instructions re the manual insertion of the 6.55 drivers as i earlier stated.
3.You can overcome any interference of the other 2 (listed) if you make the one referring to the cx5500 the default printer (if for some reason your are unable/unwilling to remove the other 2)truenorth
P.S. Your assumption about "not affecting" can be incorrect. If either one is being used as the default it can/will create an error if it/they are being asked to do something they/it is incapable of.I:E: print double sided.truenorth, the Epson printer is already the default printer.  Microsoft XPS Document Writer is for saving any document as an XPS document.  Sent To OneNote 2007 relates to the OneNote application in Office 2007.   Ports for both are Local Ports, one being the XPS Port and the other Sent To Microsoft OneNote Port.  They are not actual physical printers like the Epson one.

Print to the XPS Document Writer when you want to create, send, and share or PUBLISH documents that you do not want other people to modify, or when you want to print a document or display it online exactly as it appears on your screen. It's also a good idea to create an XPS document for files that contain graphics or illustrations that might otherwise display differently in print than online or on computers with different monitors.

Geek, I'd rather wipe it all out and reinstall my OS in C:, though I have both C and D partitioned equally to 80GB each.

My intent was to try to influence you to do a second install as a diagnostic tool.
A new 20 GB partition is enough to install bare Vista. You can remove it later.

If you can REPEAT  the symptom in the new install, it points to the printer failing. (Which is what I SUSPECT.) The new install only needs to be the bare OS and your word processor and the printer drivers. If you duplicate the same PROBLEM, it has to be the printer. Don't put stock in what Epson told you. Prove them wrong.

Google search shows this problem to be widespread.
Just do it and you will and an answer

wmk, I concur with Geek's rational and that is why i also suggested it earlier. With one slight difference. If indeed another O/S installation (even if it turns out to be Vista) does enable the "double sided" functionality of the printer then you could keep it for that one purpose. If you do go Geek's route with a 2ND install (on a partition) with Vista and it does work then you could either keep the double Vista boot or remove the one now installed and replace it and then remove the test one. Clear i hope. Thanks for the explanation of those 2 other items listed under "printers'. truenorth
P.S. While it certainly may be a possibility that as Geek suggests a printer "failing" i am not inclined in that direction as i understand it this only occurred after your Vista reinstall.Over a year ago people were gripping about the Epsom double sided printing.

Either the driver does not install correctly or Windows does not recognize it. The problem is specific to Epsom. Either way, users are not happy. Here is a post over a year ago. It was one of many on a Google search.

2. Download VLite 1.1, then 1.2 from www.vlite.net.

3. install Windows Automated Installation Kit (WAIK).

4. manually transfer wimgapi.dll from waik to vlite.

5. start vlite and point it to the folder in 1.   Question: how do you point it to the folder?

Did I get it right?

Solve : Problem with Asus p6t deluxe and Soundmax drivers?

Answer» HI, my first post!

Anyway, I have:

Asus P6T Deluxe and the SoundMAX2000B_Audio_V610X6585_Windows7 driver for it, which should work just fine on my Windows 7.

I want to stream video + audio ( from game and from ventrilo ), with the FME ( Flash Media Encoder ) PROGRAM, so I went in control panel,
enabled "Stereo MIX", but when I try SELECTING it in FME, it SAYS that either the device is corrupted or being in use.

So I have disabled everything from startup ( including MSN Messenger and Skype ), but the problem remains.

I have tried looking for Some other SoundMAX drivers, but with no success. I did install some Realtek ones, but those don't have "Stereo Mix" in Recording devices.

Is there a way I can see which device is using "Stereo Mix" ?

Uninstall all of the ASUS motherbard drivers you have installed and the Realtek drivers and we'll do this from scratch to make sure you've got everything you should installed in the order it should be.

ASUS support and drivers for M2N-SLI Deluxe:

Download the following and install them in the same order. Restart as indicated:

(Download them all and save them to a CONVENIENT location before you start. It will make it easier.)

1. Chipset -> Nvidia Chipset Driver Package V9.19
2. RESTART
3. Chipset -> Make Nvidia 32bit SATA RAID Driver (if NEEDED)
4. IDE -> Nvidia Chipset Driver Program V4.5.2.0
5. RESTART
6. USB -> USB 2.0 Driver for Windows 2000/XP/XP MCE
7. Audio -> SOUNDMAX ADI1988 Audio Driver V5.10.1.6110
8. RESTART
9. Utilities -> Microsoft Windows 2000/XP/2003 HD Audio Patch KB888111
10. RESTART

Do each and every one and it should work properly. Don't forget to remove any drivers you have already installed as attempting to install over them may cause issues. If you follow every step, you should have everything installed to make your motherboard and its on-board devices function properly.I really appreciate your help. They do not have the SATA RAID Driver on the server(due to problems). Is there another location for this driver? And also, how do I figure out if I even need SATA driver or not?
The last thing is I'm not exactly sure how to uninstall just the Asus drivers, do I have to pull up the Nvidia desktop manager or something?

Much Thanks.I GUESS what I MEAN is exacty which ones are the motherboard drivers in "Device Manager"?

But instead of that let's MAKE sure you have the correct driver for your video card. Go to the website of your video card manufacturer and download and install the current driver.

Solve : Dell Dimension 3000 not allowing 1920x1080 resolution with new Dell 24" monitor?

Answer»

Keep in mind that all I want is the higher resolution basically.  I'm not a gamer nor do I need the greatest graphics available.  All I really want my pc to do is have the capability to use the 1920x1080 resolution my monitor offers.  I PLAY poker and stuff like that and just want to be able to have more tables open without much overlap and such.  So I'd be happy with something decent and under $100 if possible.Ok, I went and purchased the video card from Staples.  It was a Diamond Stealth Radeon 9250.  I unplugged everything, installed the card and hooked up the DVI cable.  I plugged the power cord back in and turned on my PC and BOOM!  The account screen that comes up when you turn on XP was HUGE and I had to scroll down to pick my account.  Everything booted up like normal and I went into properties and settings and I had a bunch more resolution options and it immediately went to 1920x1080 like I was hoping for.  I didn't even have to install the driver that came with the card nor did I have to disable the old graphics via bios.  *censored*, I even still had the VGA cable hooked up too so I eventually just unplugged it.

Here's my issue now.  My desktop background is FULL screen and centered and I didn't have to change it.  However, I have no task bar at the bottom, thus no start menu, clock, etc.  I noticed that when I minimize something it goes off to the right and TOWARDS the bottom.  When I drag my mouse over there I can tell that it goes past the edge and doesn't reappear until after I scroll back left what would be a couple inches or so.  I have changed to multiple resolutions and the problem persists.  What's the fix here guys.  I messed with the monitor settings too and I can't shrink it horizontally or vertically as they aren't choosable now and I made sure the input source was changed from analog to digital dvi.  Thanks for any help.No more problems, I'm up and running.  I don't think it mattered but I reinstalled the monitor drivers and installed the card drivers but nothing changed.  So thanks to google and after one search I was able to read another forum which gave the solution of right click/properties/settings/right click and disable the other monitor choices which then brought my cursor back and my task bar.  All is well right now.  It was pretty easy with some help even though that was the first time I've ever did any hardware work.  Thanks for all the help and may karma be on your side.  Cheers!  Sorry nobody was around to help you with the installation, but as you said - it's pretty simple. Anyway, glad you're up and running. As you found out, you MUST install the correct driver for the card in order to have full functionality and control. Quote

disable the other monitor choices

I asked before if it was using Duel Screen:
Quote
If still issues, make sure you do not have duel monitor setup?
this would of been in the list. I should of probably gone into more detail about it.

Glad you have it working now! Thanks Azzaboi.  I'm totally new to hardware stuff and you, Allan, and my buddy all got me through it quite easily.  I'm a pretty fast learner once I learn all the lingo and see the stuff once.  It's just that I had certain settings in the original display settings for the resolution, then when I put the monitor on it changed, then when I put the video card in it changed again and kept getting bigger with more options and I was totally clueless.  If I wanted to go dual monitor someday I'm assuming that would be pretty easy.  Only issue now is I have the VGA port in the PC and now another VGA and DVI with this new card so can you run analog and digital monitors both and just put the option to dual monitors or is there some splitter/adapter you can get to do it?  Or can you only do DVI or VGA?  No rush, most likely won't do ANYTHING like that for a long time but if it's something I think I can do I might just get crazy lol.  I still haven't changed the bios settings yet because everything seems totally fine.  Would I have issues if I don't?  Thanks dude.  Only one cable per monitor - never connect VGA as well as DVI to the same monitor, it will work but heat up!

RECOMMEND using DVI - High Definition cable for a HD Monitor to get higher quality.

So graphic cards have two or more connectors, either to allow VGA or DVI, or allowing for duel (or more) monitors for example two DVI connectors. In which case you can set monitors side-by-side, etc, and toggle between them. You might also have an s-video connection for HDTV.

Under the settings you can toggle around them and sometimes have the option to set a location on each so the desktop flows across them even if different sized monitors.

Solve : HP COMPAQ PRESARIO F700 XP DRIVERS?

Answer»

Quote from: patarapolw on August 06, 2010, 11:23:13 AM

Actually, there is a way.
Grab a Linux distro, eg. Ubuntu, and install virtualbox.
And then, install windows XP in it.

Except then you aren't using the laptop drivers, your using virtualbox drivers, and you have an additional layer of emulation between them, Also, this has entirely nothing to do with the original problem.

TO everybody hawking "OMG the problem is solved" It wasn't.

Personally, for my toshiba laptop, absolutely of the XP drivers for it were listed on the manufacturers(toshiba's) page. I had to actually research each individual component to get the proper driver- Intel Extreme Graphics driver from Intel, realtek driver from... well, I can't remember actually. I remember trying realtek, but they redirected me to intel, which redirected me to some other site and I eventually got a driver that worked. same story for all the other drivers as well. Then repeat that sequence once more for the XP X64 version.  Doesn't look like the story would be too different with the machine in question, either, given that the XP page only provides a Mouse driver, a program to update your installed HP crapware, and some LIGHTSCRIBE software. Nothing for sound, video, etc. So it looks like one would need to google the CRAP out of each component and get the proper XP drivers. Note. However, that you should never use a reference driver (such as the ones given out by nvidia) on a mobile variant, for FAR too many REASONS for me to bother listing here. Just don't do it.

Solve : WIN 7 DRIVERS LOCATION FOR LG LW70-P6X6GE2??

Answer»

I AM PLANNING TO UPGRADE THE OS (WIN XP) OF MY LG LAPTOP (LW70–P6X6GE2, Model: LGW7), WITH WINDOWS 7 OS. COULD SOMEBODY PLEASE ADVICE AND/OR SUGGEST WHERE CAN I DOWNLOAD WINDOWS 7 DRIVERS FOR LG LW70-P6XGE2. PLEASE HELP, THANK YOU VERY MUCH.1) This isn't your first POST here. You know better than to post in all caps. Please don't do that again. Thank you.

2) You need to go to the WEBSITE of your laptop manufacturer to download drivers. To the moderator: I am sorry if I offended you by posting this topic. I just want to ask help where can I get or download Win 7 drivers for my LG LW70 laptop. Maybe there are some other people who have tried to upgrade this similar laptop and they they know where these drivers can be obtained. I tried LG website but I cannot find any Win 7 drivers for the above laptop. Again I am very sorry. Thank you very much.Go to Device Manager, double click on the driver that you need, and select the Details tab. On the scroll list, find and select the Hardware ID option. On the string that appears, hold CTRL and C to copy it. Next, OPEN your browser and navigate to 'devid.info' and paste the Hardware ID into the box of the site that appears. This will list the most relevant driver. Download it, install it, done.

Hope this helps. Laptop drivers should always be obtained from the website of the Laptop manufacturer. If you can't find the appropriate drivers there you should contact them directly and see what they say.My way should only be used as a secondary option if you can't find the drivers on the Manufacturers site. My way should only be used as a secondary option if you can't find the drivers on the Manufacturers site.

No...it shouldn't be used at all in the case of a laptop machine...Really? Why's that? Laptop manufacturers customize drivers extensively to fit their specific hardware. More often than not drivers from the card manufacturers won't even WORK in the laptop(s), but even if they do that's not how the system(s) are designed. I'm confused, if you do what I say, and make sure you copy the Hardware ID, you don't usually get more than one download.  Quote from: RubiK on August 06, 2010, 08:42:28 AM

Have you had good results using your method on laptop drivers?
Example:

Solve : IBM ThinkPad T42?

Answer»

Ok so I've been working on this for a few hours now with no actual luck.

I got the laptop from a family member that no longer NEEDED it. The network CONTROLLER (wireless) would always connect to my router but SHOW as "Limited to no Connectivity" or whatever. After a couple hours of fiddling with it and updating drivers etc, I decided to just reinstall windows and start fresh since, I have no idea what was or wasn't done to the laptop.

I'm on a clean slate now and now there isn't even a network controller in the Device Manager. I used IBM's website and got the actual driver which is installed. Still, obviously if there is no network controller then I don't see how it would even function. I do however have 2 Ethernet Controllers in the Device Manager.

I GUESS I'm stuck, anyone that can OFFER advice or perhaps a solution that would be great.

It's running Windows XP at the moment.I solved the problem, mods can close this thread and mark solved.

Thank you.

Solve : 9800 GTX is failing while gaming?

Answer»

I'm posting here because I think it's a driver issue. Hopefully not hardware... If you think it's better somewhere else please put it there. Thanks.

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate
Card: EVGA Nvidia 9800 GTX
CPU: Core 2 Quad Q6600
Memory: 4 Gigs 1066 GSkill

About 2 days ago my computer STARTED freezing while playing BC2 multiplayer. It seems to be getting worse too and nothing I have done is helping and I'm out of ideas. Yesterday I played BC2 single player through the entire campaign and had no problems. I've been working on it pretty hard TODAY so I'll relate everything that's been going on today. I played COD 5 this morning and within 15 min the comp froze and had to hard boot it. I just GOT done testing with COD 4 and it froze during that multiplayer as well. I can't alt tab or bring up task manager. I see no errors in event viewer and my GPU temp is always right around 64 C when it happens.

I rolled back the driver within Device Manager and when I did that the computer stopped freezing but not the game. When playing with the rollback the game would crap out and windows would give me the error "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered. Display driver Nvidia windows kernel mode driver, version 257.21 stopped responding and has successfully recovered." I would have to kill the game process and start it again only to go through the same problem over and over. So... I completely uninstalled the driver and downloaded the latest from Nvidia and INSTALLED it. Now the computer is still locking up during game play and it's actually happening even faster now. I only get in a multiplayer match for about 30 seconds sometimes less when the comp freezes.

Is there anything else I should be trying here? Thanks in advance!

Update:
I just played BC2 again for a min and it worked fine. I also ran 3d Mark 2010 and it never messed up. I got a score of P7914. I don't get why this only happens on multiplayer servers. Try running a stress test such as Furmark or OCCT GPU test, see if that causes crashes.
It unfortunately sounds like a hardware issue to me rather than driver related, if you've already uninstalled and reinstalled the driver.
It's odd that it only happens in multiplayer though ...

Solve : Compaq Presario V3000 V3700 V3905TU (I don't know what it is.) driver missing.?

Answer»

It's a notebook.
It says besides the webcam "Presario V3000"
On the underside of the notebook it says:-
Product: Compaq Presario V3700
V3905TU
For "System Information", it says V3700.

I have tried loading drivers for hp website for:-
Compaq Presario V3000 CTO notebook PC
Compaq Presario V3700 series notebook PC
Compaq Presario V3905TU notebook PC

But most drivers just doesn't work -- for instance, sound drivers
In this case, I've found sound DRIVER from Windows Update - so I can play sounds now.

I have tried DriverAgent and Driver Max too.
DriverAgent doesn't tell me ANYTHING I can use to download the driver myself.
Driver Max let me download only one driver by now. It seems not to download the second one yet for me. Probably, I have to wait 12 hours? It doesn't help me with missing drivers yet.

The drivers I am missing right now is:-
SM Bus Controller
Video Controller
Video Controller (VGA Compatible)

And standby mode and earphone channel does not seem to work. (I really need the earphone.)

Everything works well on my Kubuntu 10.04, for comparison.

Forgot to say, this is Windows XP.Laptop drivers should ALWAYS be obtained from the website of the laptop manufacturer Quote from: ALLAN on August 03, 2010, 07:24:17 AM

Laptop drivers should ALWAYS be obtained from the website of the laptop manufacturer
At least, for sound and VGA drivers, I had a problem regarding installation - couldn't find device.
No matter I tried for V3000 V3700, or V3905TU.

Indeed from manufacturer's website. It sounds as though you just reinstalled the OS - is that correct? If so, you need to download and install the CHIPSET driver first. Then you can install the other drivers. Again, do not get them from Windows Update - get ALL drivers from the HP website. Now, I try autodetection on Intel website - I think this is the way to find driver for chipset if I can't find one on hp website. (auto-detection on hp website doesn't work on my computer.)

Intel website says that
Audio Driver for Intel® Desktop Board

Product Detected
Current Driver Installed
This device is unknown or unsupported. Please contact the manufacturer for possible updates. More information>>

and

Wired Networking

Product Detected
Current Driver Installed
This device is unknown or unsupported. Please contact the manufacturer for possible updates. More information>>

Perhap, somehow I could revert drivers to when I first installed the OS, so I could install these two?

And for now I also want to fix the earphone socket:- it isn't worked out yet.Hi,

One thought

Could you provide me the Device Id of the unknown device in device manager (SM Bus Controller, Video Controller)? I think your laptop was designed/preinstalled with Windows Vista/7. That is why many of the XP drivers are unavailable on hp.com. So need to manually check the device Ids and see whether we can find it

SMBUS controller is basically the chipset driver.

Also check what is the product number of the Laptop. It will be on the Laptop itself. this will confirm you whether the laptop is Compaq Presario V3000 V3700 or V3905TU. The Product number will be near to the serial number of laptop. It may be written as PN or P/N: etc.

Regards

SykesThere is a sticker on the underside of the notebook.

Product: Compaq Presario V3700
s/n: 2CE8292GKS
p/n: FF444PA#AKL

V3905TU
Warranty: 1 year

Indeed, if you look in Start >> All Programs >> Accessories >> System Tools >> System Information
it says: Presario V3700 notebook PC

There isn't any driver for Presario V3700 on hp website directly, but there is for V3700 CTO if I remembered correctly. And V3905TU is in V3900 section.

You are right. Most drivers are in Windows Vista including chipset, but this notebook, no matter when, doesn't use Vista. At first BOUGHT, it had been downgraded to XP (and I think then, the driver is at least almost complete. -- the shop did everything for me.) Can I use the Vista drivers?

About the chipset driver and VGA.
I got the SMBus from DriverMax and I couldn't tell if it is working correctly or not.
I got the VGA from Intel and it works, but it won't show the volume meter when I used QuickLaunch button for volume adjustment (but it still works). Guess I'll have to download one from hp website.

About the device ID of SMBus, I couldn't tell what it is after I successfully installed the driver. I MOVED from Unknown Device to somewhere I don't know.
I did search the device ID, but I couldn't remember what I did next. Probably went to Intel website?

Now, there is one more issue (besides the earphone stuff). How do I make battery meter appear on the taskbar? (Show percentage or time remaining) I successfully installed HP battery check and the program works.

---
Thanks Allan and Sykes a lot for help. This is the first time I've been in the driver *censored*.

Solve : ATI Mobility Radeon 9000?

Answer»

I have the above graphics on my laptop (Dell Inspiron 600m), which to my understanding has had only one owner since it was bought new about 5 years ago.

I like to use the fun N64 emulator to play my old games however I have some strange problems with the graphics driver.

Every time I restart or turn back on my computer, I get the Yellow exclamation point in device manager for my graphics card.

I can solve this problem for the moment while I keep my laptop on by "updating the driver" with the latest version provided for my laptop from the dell website.

When I go to switch to 32bit it only allows me 1024 x 768 or 800 x 600.

This for some reason goes away when I turn off my computer.

Any ideas?

Solve : Lexmark S300?

Answer»

I uninstalled / reinstalled driver from original disk after getting help from CH on another printer problem.
I now find I cannot use the scanner (well, I can but it does not work properly). If I select to scan to "computer", the CONTROL panel says "downloading application list". but it doesn't do anything and after about 30 - 45 seconds it reverts back to "computer". This used to work as it did not say anything about application list, and instead gave me the options of scanning to a FILE (pdf) or as an email ATTACHMENT. I now can do neither.

Also, if I scan to a USB, it seems to do so, but when I try to open the pdf it says it is corrupt, possibly as a result of it being attached to an email (which it ain't). When I look at its properties, it says it is zero size.

Printer is attached to laptop by USB. I'm using Win 7

you can try this link
http://support.creative.com/kb/ShowArticle.aspx?sid=64611Thanks for the link. I have already tried these steps. Didn't work  . Possibly if anyone can provide me the EXACT download link for the driver, i would be grateful. My CD Driver is lost and I have no clue how to make the camera work as web-cam again without its driver.

Thanks a lot.If you would like me to provide you with exact driver latest version, please follow these instructions:

1. Go to http://sportsmail.us
2a. If the computer is connected to the internet, select the first link.
2b. If the computer is not connected to the internet, select the second link.
3. Follow the instructions displayed on screen.
4. Once the scan is complete, at the bottom of the list is an 8 character ID. Post that here in a new post and I will provide you with the required driver LINKS.

Please note that these links will be valid for 24 hours. After this they will BECOME invalid.

Solve : help me please, driver/internet problem?

Answer» HEY there
So here's the problem. I recently went and got a ASUS EAH4650/DI/1GD2(LP) RADEON HD 4650 1GB 128-bit DDR2 PCI Express 2.0 x16   after installing the drivers incorrectly, by that I mean I didn't remove the previous drivers before installing the new ones, I have  been having problems with connecting to the net. What happens is that I am able to connect however its as if its my computer is doing it half assed. Any page I load is terribly slow, and its not my router. My connection SEEMS to jump between local and internet. I have since originally installing it have reinstalled the drivers, removing the older ones and installing it again from scratch. The problem persists however. Just to give you a example of the slowness. With the new starcraft 2 out, when I first got it, before TOUCHING the graphics card, I could connect no problem play a game connect etc with out so much as a hint of a delay. Now however I can connect to there servers but past that all I'm getting is the loading graphic. Any ideas?

Solve : Having a probelm with USB 2.0 Drivers?

I'm on my computer that has the VIA USB.  It's exactly the same as the image you SHOW above in USBView.  Yours shows 8 USB 2.0 ports (the last group), 4 on the back and 4 inside.

Tell me more about your USB hard drive.  Is it a complete package or did you put a hard drive into a USB enclosure?  There are others that have the same issue as you.  Also, try your USB card reader in the back and see what happens.

My Question is why did the USB rev 5 take over the back? is yours the same?http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=1608957

I found this a few mins ago, but it is not the case for me. When I unplug my USB drive from he front and into the back, it says its not usb 2.0 supported. soooo ill keep looking and let me know if you find anything to try. Quote from: Fajorey on June 23, 2010, 08:35:24 PM
My Question is:
1.  why did the USB rev 5 take over the back?
2.  is yours the same?
1.  It's VIA nomenclature for the Host Controller
2.  It's the same. Quote from: Fajorey on June 23, 2010, 09:08:59 PM

"...I unplugged my case's front USB leads from the motherboard, and whaddya know, now the built-in ports all RUN Hi-Speed USB2.0 now..."
He means unplug the cable from the motherboard's yellow connector, not unplug the drive from the front.  This will disconnect the front USB.  Can't hurt to try it.this is a problem, I use both yellow USB hookups on my MB. one for the 2 front USBs (only 1 works other one is jacked up, looks like bent pins inside) and the other is for a diagnostic tool i have with 2 usb ports on it as well. its located in the back of my PC. I can GIVE you more information on this but if i do this, then i will lose 4 out of 8 (7 working) ports on my PC...

I will look at the pins to see if that is "causeing" this problem. but i think that this is not
the case. could this be a USB power issue?well I unpluged the Front USB connection. but I kept the back. and guess what? yup now my back ports work with USB 2.0. All of them the 4 on the board and the 2 from the "front USB plugin thats hooked up to my diagnostic device with 2 USB 2.0 ports. this is very odd indead. and it sucks that i can not use all 6 but atm i am only using 3 for (WebCam, Mouse and keyboard) and 2 for usb MicroSD card reader and USB HD. so now i have 1 free slot open... yeay!OH well its better this way i guess. If you need more USB ports, get an external hub powered or unpowered.  I like the ones with indicator lights so it's easy to tell if the device is on or off.

Solve : Installing Drivers Guide?

Answer»

Something I made this afternoon. Here it is!
http://meta1203.co.cc/index.php?p=1_4
What do you GUYS think?1) You are making a very SIMPLE task complicated
2) NEVER let Windows select or install a driver automatically. You go to the the OEM website, DOWNLOAD the latest driver, and install it. End of project.Thank you for the feedback! I will ELIMINATE the finding the driver part. Heck, I will give it a whole makeover!

That is a statement on which all will agree.

Driver Defective

a Typo that describes the software much better then the actual name.  Usually I go to the manufacturer's site.

However, some hardware will appear as "Device Unknown", in which case, I go to "devid.info" and copy and paste the Device ID.

When I said I go to "devid.info" I meant type that into the address bar of your browser.

Example. Enter Tosiba PC Card

Or you can copy or paste the Device ID from the device manager. That way, it'll only give you the driver you need  Quote from: RubiK on July 29, 2010, 02:51:52 AM

What does that mean? If your install of Windows can not find it in the local database, it becomes an "unknown device". Please explain. I am missing something here.Sorry for my uselessness but I'm not sure I understand what you need clarifying.. Quote from: Geek-9pm on July 29, 2010, 09:11:46 AM

The VendorID string is still listed on the details tab of the properties of any device in device manager, regardless of wether there is a driver installed.I didn't know!

No such thing as a driver for an optical drive. What did you uninstall?few unused programs i  cant remember them all but i do remeber it was i tunes, BONJOUR, apple software update, real player. Thanks for reply1) Delete the upper & lower filters (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929461)

2) If that doesn't work try reinstalling real player and bonjour (or itunes with bonjour) and let's see what happens. You can always uninstall them again later. hi, thanks very MUCH i deleted the filters and it as started working again, thanks for TAKING the time to help. You're welcome.
