Solve : reinstalled windows xp?

Answer»

have lost all drivers and cannot connect to internet with other computer to get drivers can someone PLEASE help, so you mean that your pc is not able to connect to internet and neither can your Other PC?I'm not sure exactly what your problem is , SINCE you SAID both your COMPUTERS aren't connecting. But, I recently switched from Vista to Xp on my laptop and lost some drivers, and could not connect to IE from my laptop only.
After I installed a  Broadband WIRELESS driver for my network adapter , I was able to correct the issue. I wasn't able to attach the links. I found these on a different forum, which I don't think I'm supposed to say.
You can also download a trial program that might help you called (NETWORK MAGIC)

If you don't have any access to a computer you might be screw--!

Solve : Please help im going mad!!! [ removeable pen drive problem]?

Answer»

Ok I followed the ADVICE by this guy [ see link provided]

http://www.troublefixers.com/how-to-...or-in-windows/

and im still having a problem like a few others in those comments where I still keep getting a message saying "please insert a disk in drive f ". I changed it to x like he suggested but its done nothing. im tearing my hair out!!!!.

I have a 2gb mini micro Sd card in a flash stick thingie that came with my R4 revolution thing so I can eventually download my ds games that I already own onto it so that I dont have to carry around 20 seperate little cards and also it means I dont lose the original games like im good at doing..
Following the link, gets this:

Sorry, but you are looking for something that isn't here.

Sorry, but you're going to have to give more information (A link to another forum doesn't hack it, frankly, especially when it doesn't work!) and describe your problem much more fully, in proper clear English.

Or maybe this is spam to make us see the ads on the Troublefixers site?

"Or maybe this is spam to make us see the ads on the Troublefixers site?"

my god paronoid much?  I came here to ask for help and I get accussed before ive even started!!!

I thought I was speaking english thanks. you lot are soo friendly here arent you.

again ill explain as best I can not everybody is literate as you.

I have an error message please insert disk into drive F?
Everytime I put my flash pen drive into a usb port. I cant open it. it detects the hardware but nothing else.I see from looking round the net theres alot of people with this problem but no real solution. im tearing my hair out.
Have you tried plugging the stick into any other computer? Basically I am wondering if the pen drive is FAULTY or broken. This is quite common.

Has that flash drive ever worked?I might try the internet cafe later if its open. Here in the stupid uk we have a bank holiday today which is infuritating every single thing is closed and the buses only run very 3 hours. May is the worst month we have about 5 of them.

If it isnt that then what?

its brand new it came with the R4 pack.

This has happened before with a vodafone micro sd card plugged into a samsung j700 phone at the time I thought it might be the phone and thought nothing of it and the problem is happening again

But whats strange is I can plug in my mp3 player [ which doesnt have a sd card] it recognises that? but not micro sd cards?
There are SD cards and SHDC cards. They look the same but the newer SHDC type only work in a compatible slot or card reader (which will READ the older SD cards as WELL)

I dont know all I know is the pen drive and sd card came together in the r4 pack.
so they must be able to work together. I just feel im not getting anywhere. im finding this so frustrating. R4, eh? For the NDS? I wonder how this will fit in our rules.

Anyways, if the flash drive/adapter that comes with it doesn't work, it doesn't work.Is there another one I can use obtain somewhere? its werid as the product was new.

fit in with rules? should be ok surely? as long as im not asking anything iilegial? It's not new at all. I got my R4 about 3 years ago.

It uses a mini-SD card. I'm sure you can find an adapter at the store. I didnt mean that I meant I got mine "brand new" instead of 2nd hand. Then send it back to the shop. The said shop was just across the street so i changed it and everythings fab again.
The problem was the sd card it was faulty. Thanks anyway . So the adapter was fine, eh? Darn..

Anyways, good job.

Solve : directx, Direct3d Acceleration Fail?

Answer»

I recently reformatted my computer and installed Windows ME.  Other than that I reinstalled everything and RETAINED all the same hardware.  I no longer can USE games that involve 3d graphics.  I'm pretty sure that the problem is with directx, for two reasons.

First, when I installed directx it was missing a dll file and simply refused to work.  I found a copy online and added it, and found advice telling me that sometimes this happens when you install a newer version of directx- the newer version assumes that you're upgrading and have the old dll file somewhere, and doesn't provide it.

Second, when I try to play games, they hit 100% processor memory and stop functioning once the 3d graphics kick in.

Third, and most importantly, I've run dxdiag.  It fails when I test the direct3d acceleration.  It completes the first of three tests, and then fails on the other two, claiming that it is out of video memory.  Remember, all of my hardware is the same as before the reformat, and I have no other problems with my computer besides this one.

Here is the section of text on the failure, and then beneath it for completion is the entire dxdiag readout.

Direct3D 8 test results: Failure at step 29 (DrawIndexPrimitive): HRESULT = 0x8876017c (Out of video memory)
Direct3D 9 test results: Failure at step 29 (DrawIndexPrimitive): HRESULT = 0x8876017c (Out of video memory)

For completion, the entire test result.

I don't know what to do at this point.  Directx won't update because it says I already have a recent version, and my graphics card drivers are as up to date as they get.  Should I try an install from cd using an older version of directx in an attempt to backdate it?  I've diagnosed the problem, I think, I don't even know where to begin.

I got my COMPUTER reformatted not too long ago and I'm just now learning he didn't install any of my drivers!! The audio was easy to find but now I need one for my VIDEO card. I had someone check the Compaq site but he told me they no longer support my model. I can't find the drivers anywhere without them trying to charge a fortune. If someone can PLEASE tell me where I can find a driver for my Compaq I'd be very thankful

P.S. I run Windows XP

Solve : Driver is blocked due to compatibility issues?

Answer»

I tried downloading an older version of SYMANTEC on my computer (Vista OS) and now this box keeps popping up saying: Driver is blocked due to compatibility issues. It says to check online to see if solutions are available from the Microsoft website. I did that but MS says to download the upgraded version of Symantec - which I do not want to do (I have another AV PROGRAM that I'm using - Webroot). Other info: Driver: Symantec Utility Driver   Publisher: Symantec   Location: Not Available  It also says a driver is installed that causes stability problems with your system. This driver will be disabled. Please contact the driver manufacturer for an update that is compatible with this version of WINDOWS.

Is there any WAY I can get rid of this? Thanks for your help!First of all, you don't run TWO antivirus programs, so your problem is solved. Two antivirus programs are just as bad, if not worse, than none at all.
UNINSTALL Symantec.I did uninstall Symantec as soon as the problem with the pop up window began - shortly after trying to install the older version. I'm just running Webroot...I still had the pop up window saying the driver was blocked due to compatibility issues... however the pop up seems to have gone away. I have noticed a couple of programs do not seem to be working properly now - specifically a program I use to make back-up copies of my dvds called Nero.Download HijackThis:
http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/tools/security_tools/hijackthis/download
by clicking on Download HijackThis Installer
Install, and run it.
Post HijackTHis log.
Do NOT attempt to fix anything!

NOTE. If you're using Vista, right click on HijackThis, and click Run as AdministratorThanks for the help!!! Quote from: republicangop on May 30, 2009, 12:06:29 AM

Solve : buying a used laptop?

Answer»

i am looking at this compaq laptop. I have no PASSWORD and the owner is a guest of the county for about 6 monthes. I think the first thing u do with used equipment is do a cmplete restore to erase all of her stuff. But I cannot locate all the identifying numbers to determine the correct restore data that i need to obtain. sorry to be so wordy but a. is this a good idea? b am i correct that i need to do a complete restore with a recovery disk? You dont need to do a recovery, you need to format and partition.  You need an OS disk.  Or find the person who is selling it and get the password from them, actually he should've formated it before he decided to sell it.  Find what Operating system you want and GO from there. For windows o.s, complete restore with recovery disk might be ok.

Like if you buy a computer from made by compaq, and you restore with compaq's provided restoration system or cd without issues, it would be REVERTED back to the way it was before you EVEN touched pc the first time. if you go that route, make sure you restore it to the factory, it would be pointless to restore it to an earlier state unless you want to use some of the programs that are already on there. and I would definitely just wipe computer clean and start over (whether it's a total reinstall of the operating system or it's just a recovery back to original factory presets doesn't matter --> both are fine) because you sure don't want to be a pirate and start HACKING into previous owner's stuff, not that you need to or want to LOL

Solve : I've lost my audio device and don't know where to find it!?

Answer»

Hi All

Firstly - apologies in advance for this new topic - there are already several very similar on this board (and many others all over the web)  I have spent the past 2 days following all sorts of advice, but nothing seems to have worked. I have done my best to RTFM I promise, but I'm now - officially - at my wit's end.

I installed what I thought was a nifty little gadget, NCH Soundtap, which WOULD allow me to RECORD audio streams.  Stupid, stupid, stupid. Instead it hijacked my soundcard and stopped any other software from being able to use it. My laptop now believes I have no sound device. Needless to say, I have since uninstalled the software and I just want my sound back!

I now get all the symptoms described by many other people on this board - no audio, yellow exclamation mark icons beside all of the sound devices in control panel, a code 39 error whenever I try to uninstall and reinstall the drivers etc etc.

(Notably, whenever I try to install the drivers it always has trouble locating the dlls, ksuser and ks.sys, although I am able to locate them on my system and point the installer in the right direction)

I have tried installing the kb888111 patch as recommended.

I have run Everest, which lists under multimedia: Intel 82801GBM ICH7-M - High Definition Audio Controller.  (is this the same as Realtek?)
The motherboard chipset is listed as:  Intel Calistoga i945GM/PM

My Laptop is an old-ish Acer Aspire 5680, running Windows XP  (the original installation disks are long lost)

It occurs to me that I might be following the whole process correctly, but that I may have located the wrong drivers to reinstall

Please, PLEASE, can any you clever people out there hazard a guess as to where I might be going wrong?

Thanks

The code 39 error is explained here....http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310123 with directions Thank you for this - it does give a more detailed description of code 39 than i have found elsewhere - but I have followed the procedure is recommends many times and the result is always the same.

I uninstall the drivers, restart, then reinstall - but the last dialog box of the installation tells me there is a problema nd my hardware might not load correctly - because of a code 39 problem.

There are so many drivers available on the Realtek website - how can I be sure I have absolutely the right drivers for my card and motherboard?I'm not sure this will help but you can give it a try.....

Go to Control panel>Administrative tools>Services>Windows Audio>See if it's enabled or restart.....

With regards to the drivers, I've used RadarSync with SUCCESS to download Realtek drivers.okay - the windows audio service was running, but I restarted it again anyway.

I installed RadarSync - what a cool utility - and used it to download the correct drivers.  I then uninstalled the existing drivers, disconnedted the device and reinstalled these new ones.

SAME RESULT     (restart my machine, follow new hardware wizard, end up with 'cannot start this hardware - cannot load the device driver. the driver may be corrupt or missing (code 39)'

At LEAST, TRYING to take the positives from the situation, I now know I have the correct drivers - it must be something else - although what, lord knows.

Incidentally, I also uninstalled the other items I saw in the hardware list that had yellow exclamation marks beside them (Bluetooth audio, Acer Orbicam etc)  and all of these suffer the same problem  (code 39) when I follow the new hardware wizard on restart.  Whatever the problem is, it is affecting all of these items.

Does this offer any more clues?

Solve : Sims 3 detects on 1 computer, but not the other.?

Answer»

When I PUT the CD in the DVD-ROM drive, it doesn't detect it at all. I went to My Computer to see if "The Sims 3" was in the driver I put the CD in, but nothing. Doesn't detect it at all. After that I put in Roller COASTER Tycoon to see if it was just my driver, but it detected the CD right off. I then took the Sims 3 CD to my other computer to see if the CD was the problem. When I put it in the drive, it came right up. What could be the problem? Its not my driver or the CD...I just don't know what to do now. Any suggestions would be GREAT. I don't know if you need any info or not, so here's some info.

dont know what other info might help whoever may be hopefully about to help me, but let me know what you might needOne of these may help:

2. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060
Restart computer.
or...
3. Download, and run Restore Missing CD Drive patch
Double click on cdgone.zip to unzip it.
Right click on cdgone.reg, click Merge.

4. Go to Device Manager, click a "+" sign next to IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers.
You'll SEE two items:

Right click on each of them, and click Uninstall. Confirm.
Restart Windows. They'll be automatically reinstalled.thanks for your help. but right after i finished posting here, i hunted some more and found a "Code 39" fix which is what it was saying in the device manager.  something about it couldnt launch drivers because of bla bla "Code 39" so i followed the instructions i found and it was a perfect fix!

Thank you again for your  help!

To solve this Code 39 error, follow these instructions:

NOTE: After removing these registry keys and rebooting, it may be necessary to reinstall any CD or DVD recording applications.

1) Close all open programs

2) Click on Start, Run, and type REGEDIT and PRESS Enter

3) Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

    * HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    * SYSTEM
    * CurrentControlSet
    * Control
    * Class
    * {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

4) This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

    * UpperFilters
    * LowerFilters
    * UpperFilters.bak
    * LowerFilters.bak

5) If  any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and CHOOSE Delete

6) After deleting the keys, close the Registry Editor

7) Reboot your computer

Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone. That's it. That was my fix #2.
I'm glad, you got it going

Yes, we can, but it is good to know if there are other ways as well!
If it be possible, I THINK it is easier than downloading the drivers!
Thanks for your replies!

I've never tried it, either, but I doubt it's gonna work.
When you download any driver, it usually comes as installation PACKAGE, which means, it's not like 1 file, which NEEDS to copied to some folder.

Solve : Display driver and world of warcraft?

Answer»

I think that the answer to my problem is quite simple, although i have been unable to find it. When i try to get into my WoW game, it says "Failed to find a suitable display device. Exiting Program." This is either a problem with my video card, or my driver, so i went to dxdiag, and under display notes it said,

"The system is using the generic video driver.  Please install video driver provided by the hardware manufacturer.
To test DirectDraw functionality, click the "Test DirectDraw" button above.
Direct3D functionality not available.  You should verify that the driver is a final version from the hardware manufacturer."

So i figured i should just find a new video driver, however I am not quite sure which one i need, so i tried driver detective; then came the whole fine print issue, and FINALLY found everest, which helped me get a sound driver, EVEN though i wasn't really looking for one (although i was going to be looking for it eventually).

ANYWAYS, i tried the same thing with my video card drivers, however it keeps sending me to a page that doesn't list a driver, so i just navigate from there, but every driver i try to download, it says, "Setup did not find a driver compatible with your current hardware or operating system. Setup will now exit."

I am at a loss here, because that's where everest sent me, yet it still says i don't need it, and i would really appreciate some type of HELP because i'm about to just pull my hair out and i don't know what to do.

Here are some details about my computer:

Operating system: Microsoft windows XP profesional (5.1, Build 2600)

DDI version: unknown

The computer was recently reformatted because of certain things i just wanted to get rid of, and World of Warcraft worked with no problems, but now it wont work, so please help if you are able, i searched a few pages and couldn't see any recent problems like this, and i'm not sure if it is a video card problem or a driver problem, but can you please just tell me what to do or where to go because i'm DONE trying this all on my own.
Monitor:I would go to emachines website under support and find your model Quote

T5048A
and then download the video driver from their site, such as here:

http://downloads.emachines.com/drivers/video/D00612-001-002.exe

Its an Intel GPU as long as its stock.... if you added a graphics adapter you will have to crack the case OPEN and look at it and tell us what it is such as nVidia 7300GS etc..

Whenever you need drivers...always start at manufacturers website and support. Unless a crappy company or obsolete system like 5+ YEARS old , drivers are usually there to be found.

Good luck and see you back up on WoW soon ...I also play WoW!

It's on there...you'll just have to use a magnifying glass.  All PRODUCTS have model numbers on them...somewhere.Any number at all might work.Start here:  http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/405/&cl=us,en?prodcrid=405

If you can't find one that matches, then go here:  http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/405/&cl=us,en&legacy=1Put the camera on the laptop, where it works, and see what information you can find about it in Control Panel and Device Manager. And /or run an Everest Home report...Thank you, Sir Edmund Hillary -- always going on about Everest!     I'll try that was thinking that I couldnt do something along those lines.  Patio I DONT have it setup too REALLY were I could so it wont work.  There is now seen number, the thing is that I am given up graphic's for speed so its hard to tell and if I turned them on it would only be slow. Not sure what this means but all you have to do is DLoad and install Everest Home and run the scan with the Cam connected...So I dont have to be connected?  I haev no protection on this machine an its not setup to connect.Look at the TWO links I posted...

Which of the cameras looks like the one you have?

Use the driver for that camera.

Sheesh...a two page thread for something so SIMPLE...a caveman could do it.  I'll look at it later.  A distorted view wont change if its set that way.I suggest this be locked. Squall has ALL the information he needs and insists on "looking at it later" just as he does in ALL of his threads. And then, a few months later he bumps his old topic saying he has time, people post a few things, and then suddenly he has to do it later again. I wonder how he get's anything done.by doing it later on when I have more time.  The following week I found the manual an was able to get a driver for it.  Its working good for the most part. You might have let us know...  ?  I didnt find it till like last week.

Solve : LAN driver for HP Pavilion dv 6306rs for XP Pro?

Answer»

Hello!
A laptop user approached me with a Pavilion dv 6306rs, which was recently downgraded to XP Pro.
The problem is the LAN adptor is notwork so he cannot connect to the local network, we downloaded from the HP website the following driver sp36684. This driver apparently it only installs the wireless adptor and not the LAN adptor. Is there something we missing? or any suggestion how we can get the right device drivers for this laptop?    Try this driver: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp33501-34000/sp33645.exe
For any other XP drivers, check here: http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic75510.html (post #6)Thanks for your post! I downloaded the driver from the link u posted installed it still no solution.
Well when i go to the device manager i find installed the following, 1394 Net Adapter it shaws that its working and connected but it does not send or receive any packets, and when i go to its properties click repair i get the following error message TCP/IP Protocol is not activated for this connection. How do i go about activating this protocol?,  perhaps that is the solution I'm trying to Google for this error with no avail,.
Keep posting i will do the same if i get the solution. Why would you use IEEE 1394 (Firewire) to connect? Technically, it's possible, but it needs very expensive cable.
You use Ethernet port.Well its not that i want to use IEEE1394, its showing as one of the network adapter in Device manager the other one is the wireless adapter which is fine. Now i'm battling to have the LAN adapter function too, i downloaded the drivers u suggested run it but still there is no solution, any more help i appreciate.

By the way the 1394 Net Adapter, automatically installs its drivers once the XP OS installation is done. My concern now is to find the LAN adapter drivers. Please help If the driver Broni provided did not work perhaps the onboard LAN is faulty...Thanks! Patio
I would like to believe that it is faulty, but i dought this is because i'm looking for drivers for two notebooks both are Pavilion dv 6000 series one is 6707rs and the other is 6306rs. I looked through the Product specification of both notebooks and i compared the the details of the LAN Adapter, they look almost the same, i also tried the drivers on booth Notebook but did not work on non of them, then this means that booth LAN adapter are faulty? i dont THINK so, and the other thing is that when vista was running on these notebook the LAN adapter was functioning just fine, these are the specs of the LAN card on each Notebook:
ntegrated 10/100BASE-T Ethernet LAN for HP Pavilion dv6707us Entertainment Notebook PC
ntegrated 10/100BASE-T Ethernet LAN (RJ-45 connector) for HP Pavilion dv6306rs.

Any other idea or suggestion is welcome, will post back as well as soon as i get it sorted out, meanwhile i'm counting on your help too.
Thax!DLoad install and run Everest Home.....FREE
This will give you more specific details about the PC's components...
You can post the Computer Summary PORTION here as well and we'll have a looksee...Hey guys thanks so MUCH for your support. i finally found the soultion for my problem on this website and things are working fine on booth Notebooks.

Hello,

I have been trying to use the streaming feature on my Sony DCR-HC21 CAMCORDER. I want to use it as a webcam, but the included driver CD is not working. When I try to use Skype with Vista, the camcorder appears, but it does not stream video.
This feature has worked for me using a Windows XP PC.

Operating System: Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit
Camcorder: Sony DCR-HC21
PC: GATEWAY 6810-01You need an extra software to do it: http://chris.pirillo.com/how-to-use-a-camcorder-as-a-webcam/Are there any free OPTIONS? Sony's manual says it can stream video to the computer, and it worked on an XP computer. Do I need SPECIAL drivers?Try TrackerCam: http://www.trackercam.com/TCamWeb/tcaminfo.htm

Solve : Help w/(DIY?) serial communication and interpretation?

Answer»

Background:
I have a clinical chemistry analyzer, 'the instrument', that is attached to a PC (2.5GHz P4, 512 MB, 40 Gb HD) running Windows 2000 Pro as well as the company's proprietary dedicated software, 'the system'. The software has two options for data output, an DE-9 COM port and a 3.5" floppy. The proprietary software fully supports a wide variety of transmission protocols (Baud, parity, char length, STOP bits, ACK/NAK) and the system is currently talking to a POSIX-based system via the COM port.

The Problem:
For various reasons, I have become at least partially responsible for making this analyzer (and the data it produces) available to a wider number of users. WHENEVER I hook anything up to the system via the COM port, I get ZERO communication. No hyperterminal text transfer, no handshake, nothing. I've checked the port(s) with a VOM and, again, the instrument talks to another system.

I'm wondering if I have to write (if possible) or buy a driver to interpret the data that system spews or if I'm just missing something retarded like not shorting one of the COM channels.

I appreciate anyone's $.02 that they're willing to give.Is the cable used between PC and device the same cable that works with other systems? If different cable could be cable pin out. Is this a NULL cable?

I also made myself a serial loopback for testing serial ports its pretty easy to make you send the TX to RX and you can then type in hyperterm and see the text looping back. http://www.hosenose.com/radio/support/loopback.htm

If Baud, partity bits, etc are all set correctly you should at least see something like

F^%$VF&%^ if there are communications but its not able to be translated by hyperterm.

Is there a text string output from the device over serial that shows when powered like system ready etc in which you can reboot the device with the pc running hyperterm to see if you see anything other than nothing.

Only other time I saw a person with similar issue was GETTING RS-232 and RS-422 confused with Rockwell Motion Controllers that I serviced for 6 years as the lead support electronics tech.

Also if you are using a USB to Serial converter, they can be troublesome for some applications. A dedicated true 9-pin d-sub or 25 pin serial with 9-pin converter adapter is best.

There also used to be a tester like this one http://www.cables4computer.com/Accessories/Cable-Testers_Tools-and-Testers_Premium_Parallel_Loopback_Tester.html that had LED Diagnostics for Serial Com, but cant seem to find one other than parallel com. Quote from: DaveLembke on June 11, 2009, 11:10:14 AM

Is the cable used between PC and device the same cable that works with other systems?...

Thanks much for the $.02. It's always two or three SIMPLE problems together that really trip you up. I tested the cable and got intermittent results. Threw it away, and made my own (if you want something done right...). That was half the problem. The query input settings on the software are ambiguous as well, when you turn off queries, it waits for the host to ask for data rather than just sending it out.

Anyway, thanks for your input, I hope I haven't taken up too much of your time.

Solve : Formatting hard drive on laptop c400?

Answer»

My LAPTOP crashed and was advised to get a NEW hard drive for it,which I did -100gig;Now,next set,after installing it would be formation;

can anybody please give me the steps for it?I am not a computer genious, but I think I can do it if somebody PUTS it down for me....Insert OEM OS cd into drive and boot from CD then follow installation and as PART of installation it will format. If Windows its that easy, if Linux and the distro doesnt have an installer helper in which you need to manually create partitions etc you would need more assistance. I am guessing your Windows which is boot from CD and then follow directions.

*** IF Laptop is very old it may not boot from CD and probably wouldnot address HD to FULL 100gb. Guessing a newer laptop that will.Consider visiting this site

Solve : Having problem downloading lastest printer driver from Epson website?

Answer»

I am having a frustrating time trying to download the lastest printer driver from the Epson website.  I have Windows XP Professional on my computer but was told to go ahead and use their download for Windows 2000.  I worked on the phone with an Epson tech and we kept getting a popup at the end of the trying to download which read, "c:windows/system32/autoexec.nt The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft windows applications.  Close to terminate the application."  The tech told me I should go to the Microsoft website for help.  The Microsoft website help center told me to follow the same steps that the Epson website did and so I get the same pop up window.  To get further help from Microsoft costs big bucks and all I'm trying to do is get my printer to start working with my computer again.  Has anyone got any suggestions for me? Quote

trying to download
or install?
Download link, please. I'm trying to download a printer driver from the Epson website.

http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/supDetail.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes&oid=14422&prodoid=10614&infoType=Downloads&platform=All

Is this the link you were refering to in your question?  Thank you for resonding. There are several drivers at your link. Which one are you trying to download?
...and one more time...are you getting mentioned error, when you try to download, OR install the driver?I'm trying to download a printer driver listed under Windows Operating Systems at the link I GAVE you, it is named printer driver v5. obes2 for Windows 2000.  When I try to download, the download never finishes because I get the MESSAGE I quoted in my original post.Possible solution: http://kb.bighammer.com/article.aspx?id=10003Wow, that was amazing!  That was exactly my problem, it was nice to know I wasn't the only one that it has happened to.  Anyways, I did what they said to do then went back to the Epson website and voila I was able to download the driver.  That was the positive stuff.  Now I still have some negative... when I tried to print something I am getting a printer failed to print message.I'm glad, it worked

As for your printer...
Go to Device Manager, uninstall printer driver, and printer itself.
Turn off computer.
Disconnect printer cable.
Turn on computer.
Install freshly downloaded driver.
It may ask you to connect the printer back to your computer.
If not, finish driver installation.
Turn off computer.
Reconnect printer.
Restart computer.Well, I am back and appreciated seeing a list of THINGS to do.  I went down the list methodically and did everything the way I thought was right but I'm still getting a printer failed to print message.  Let me ask you this...When I went to Device Manager the only thing on the list that seemed linked to my Epson printer was a listing called Ports.  Under Ports there were 2 CHOICES; COM1 and LPT1.  Under both these headings I find a subheading of Driver.  When I went through your steps I went to the LPT1 choice only and clicked on uninstalling a driver listed there by Microsoft dated 7/1/2001 version 5.1.2600.0.  The same driver is listed under the COM1 heading in Ports but I did not uninstall that one because I didn't know if I should.  Should I have uninstalled both?  Or am I totally not doing the right thing?  Thank you again for your help. Quote
Or am I totally not doing the right thing?
Yes. Nothing really happened by uninstalling "wrong" driver, because, most likely, Windows reinstalled it on reboot.

Printer may not show in Device Manager.
Click Start>Printer and Faxes.
Is it listed there?
If so, right click on it, click Delete
Then...
Turn off computer.
Disconnect printer cable.
Turn on computer.
Install freshly downloaded driver.
It may ask you to connect the printer back to your computer.
If not, finish driver installation.
Turn off computer.
Reconnect printer.
Restart computer.
Okay, I'm finally back.  After following your steps it still wouldn't print for me so I DECIDED to switch to a USB cable instead of my parallel cable and I'm happy to say the sound of my printer never sounded soooo good to me.  This has been a 5 day process for me to work out all the kinks and I would have never got it done without the important link to http://kb.bighammer.com/article.aspx?id=10003 that you gave me.  Had you not figured out that for me I would not have known where to turn.  So thank you very, very much for your help.  I will be passing this website on to my friends.  This is a great resource. You're very welcome

Solve : NVIDIA drivers problem?

Answer»

So, what happens when you try the 91.31 drivers ?
FILE Name 91.31_winxp2kmce_english_whql.exe

http://www.softwarepatch.com/utilities/nvidia-geforce-fx-5200.html

Have you disabled the onboard graphics in the control panel?
You may need to do this in safemode.OK.  This is odd.

I donwloaded the 169 driver today and....it WORKS.  It didnt work the other day but today it does.  The only difference in my system is that I am now running wireless internet rather than using a WIRE to connect to my router.

COULD the problem have been as simple as a dodgy cable?  Could it have SCRAMBLED the download in anyway?

Cheers, guys.

Solve : Can't Print-Get Message - Need didtcnv4.dll file - Need Help Thanks.?

Answer»

--I clicked on Universal Serical Bus Controllers - there was no Support listed
--I went to BIOS and Universal was enabled
--Zone Alarm firewall had a MESSAGE, "Printer Device wants to act as server"
--Patio had mentioned about using the wrong port
I'm not familiar with Zone Alarm, maybe it is causing the problems.

One other thing you can try, unplug EVERYTHING from your usb ports except your keyboard and your mouse. Go to Device Manager and expand Universal Serial Bus Controllers. RIGHT CLICK on every "USB Root Hub" and click uninstall. You will receive a warning, just click ok. After uninstalling all of them restart your computer and they will reinstall. Then try plugging your printer back in and see if you get the "Found New Hardware"  Thanks for all your help. I got the printer to work. After installing and uninstalling the driver download for the 20th time, I pressed Update instead of Downloading Driver. That brought up the USB port under Properties (where it didn't exist before). SELECTED USB port and presto - I have a printer that works.

I've said it before - this site and volunteers are awesome. Many thanks.

Solve : Microphone crashes any application that uses sound!?

Answer»

Hello!

Firstly I would LIKE to thank you very much for taking the time to help me.

Here is my problem: A few days ago, I ran a Windows LIVE Messenger conversation with three people while we fooled around speaking nonsense to each other through microphone. (For information, I use a Logitech for Notebook Deluxe microphone (not a recent one), and my computer is a recent Hewlett-Packard running on Windows 7 Family Edition.) My microphone froze completely during one of my recordings and since then, any application that produces sound, for example videos viewed on the Internet through my browser (Opera or Chrome), Skype and other games just freeze completely once I start using the microphone. But the big problem now is that I cannot access the sound section of the control panel anymore, regardless of whether the microphone is being used or not. I click "Control Panel" => "Hardware and Sound" and once I click on the "Sound" section the button does not respond and acts as if I never CLICKED it.

I am thinking one of my drivers has been somehow messed up but don't know which one. I have checked the windows device manager but have only found one faulty device NAMED "Saitek Magic Bus Root Enumerator" which does not seem to have any link with the Logitech microphone or the sound card.  Do any of you pros out there have a clue or even a hint which might put me on a track to fix this problem? Should I reinstall a specific sound driver? If so, which one and how?

Feel free to ask any additional information on my computer which may help you. Thanks a bunch!reinstalling the sound driver sounds ( ) like a good idea. If you cannot uninstall the driver in normal mode, try BOOTING up in safe mode and removing the driver and then rebooting.

What can I do to fix this problem. Please explane in detail because I am a novice.
Thanks a lotGo the the nvidia website and download and install the Windows 7 driver for your card.I tried that amd it stil gives me the same error mesage, is there something else I can do? I already sent it back and they replaced the graphic carad so it can't be the card. Here They Are...That is the one I tried and it gives the same error message as before, is there anything else I should/can do?Look in DEVICE manager. Any ERRORS?Are you sure this card is what it says it is ? ?

Sounds busted* to me. Google reveals many complaints about Moser Baer poor quality, but this can happen to any brand of pen drive. Also if you bought it in suspect place e.g. street market, it could be a fake or manufacturing reject.

I've had similar type probs with many pen/flash DRIVES. The end result was the drives are dead and basically uselkess if it cant be recognised by windows.. Quote from: DEEPAKSHREEN on July 03, 2010, 11:35:34 AM

Saying "it works well" and "I am able" in the present tense gives the impression it is still working on that system. So Carbon probably made the logical assumption from your comments that it can be read by your Windows 7 system and therefore you should try to format it on that system. thanks calum but what program do you recommend using to properly benchmark the graphic's card, to see what driver is best?3DMark06 (for XP) or Vantage (Vista or newer) are probably the best tests, although they are synthetic so performance in those is not necessarily indicative of real world performance.

Allot because for example if you don't have the right driver for a specific video card you wouldn't be able to run Aero. And in my case, me having the first driver release for the Geforce 210 installed it was really lagging in game's. And last but not least Nvidia had some driver issue's that destroyed allot of video card's. So drivers are important. And duh, i will install the driver from the actual manufacturer. You missed my point, but okay - as long as you're getting the driver from the Nvidia site it's fine.

Solve : Can't find the right drive?

Answer»

I have no clue what it could be, there is no info in the Device manager it just say, Other devices => Unknown device, on properties I only get this:

Code: [Select]Unknown device

Device type: Other devices
Manufacturer: Unknown
Location: on PCI standard ISA bridge

Device status

The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

There is no driver selected for the device information set or element.

To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver.

And it don't say anything that could specify what it is, I didn't have it last time I reinstalled the computer and I don't think I should let microsoft try to find it with "Update Driver Software..."

Anyone know what it could be?Are you saying you just did a new install of the OS? If so, install the chipset driver.Well the ting is that I have no clue what my chipset driver is...

Here is Asus homepage with my motherboard, http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=lhJiLTN5huPfCVkW

But if I download

Code: [Select]Description  AMD Chipset Program Driver WHQL V3.0.732.0 (Package Version 8.63) for Windows 7 & Windows 64bit 7.(WHQL)
File Size 120.15 (MBytes) 2009/07/31 update
I get "ATI Catalyst Install Manager" but I have no clue if it is the chipset driver, so it's kinda confusing around there... (but it is installed) Yea I should mention that when I install the "Chipset" driver I get a error when I start the computer, the error is that it can't find a file, and I have to reinstall the OS to get rid of it, reinstalling the program dose not work, and thats the only reason why I reinstalled the OS in the first place.Ok, I have now found out that I'm using a AMD 790FX and that there seems like to be no drivers for it at the AMD homepage, well I didn't any and the homage is just a big mess.

But I STILL have no clue where the drivers and what the Unknown driver is, so if anyone knows what it is do a replay.

1. Don't use caps.
2. Make your own post.Ok it seems to be nobody who know what AMD 790FX drivers are, if they really are the "ATI Catalyst Install Manager".

So new question, how do you know if you have installed your chipset driver?search for a program named driver fetch, i have used it and found drivers for things i didnt even know i needed, you can work back and forth with a coputer and a flash drive if your computer cant access the internet, and oh yeah, ITS FREEDo not use third party utilities for drivers. Open device manager. Are there any errors? Quote from: Frejoh466 on July 29, 2010, 11:45:43 AM

...I don't know what you are trying to say...
It's on the link you PROVIDED.  Click the Download tab, select the OS and there are all the drivers.  Chipset is 120MB download.  The files within do seem to be for ATI Catalyst, so could be a bad link by Asus.  Just use the LAN & Audio and forget the chipset.

WinXp chipset is only 5MB file, and the files within appear to be correct.kk, but on the CD I got it also have the cataclysm thingy, but every time I install it I get a error that a file is gone so last time I had to go into temp files copy and paste stuff to get rid of that startup error.

But anyway anyone know what the yellow question mark is?

Solve : keep loosing USB hub on boot?

Answer»

My Belkin 1 yr. old 7 port hub keeps  loosing it's drivers upon reboot. It's  powered off a card that I have installed in the card slots for the Main board.

I have to reinstall the drivers from the CD driver reinstall menu, restart and then all's fine.

Where do I go to fix the issue? BIOS, Device Mgr.?...and more importantly what to do.Is there an external POWER option ? ?If you mean power PLUG GOING to a plug-in STRIP, yes.
The USB hub (the USB hub on the desktop) is also powered off the card. when i plug just the card and Hub together I get an orange power on light on the hub's base.

Solve : Vid Driver update problem..?

Answer»

well i downloaded my driver update if if this is any HELP its a nVidia Geforce 7600 GS and when i run the update program i get a error saying didn't pass threw Microsoft Logo testing, don't really know what that means so i don't continue because i don't want to SCREW up my computer. do i have to delete my drivers right now and then install the new ones? please help! thanks! This is instructions from Nvidia.

Driver Installation Hints

"Download Accelerator" utilities should be disabled when downloading any drivers.

Do not run virus protection software in the background while installing the drivers. This prevents the driver from configuring itself properly.

Before installing new drivers make sure you uninstall all NVIDIA display drivers from the Windows Control Panel. Browse to the Start Menu > Windows Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and search for "NVIDIA Windows Display Drivers" or "NVIDIA Display Drivers" and select remove

Below is you driver LINK.

http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_94.24.htmlwhat are "Download Accelerator"? also i did everything and it SAID didn't pass threw Microsoft logo testing and i still continued is that ok or what's going on? also when i go to my computer and click on local disk click on nVidia then it shows Win2KXP click that and it shows to number FOLDERS 84.21 and 94.24.. and it still says they are out of date!If you don't know what a download accellerator is then,I
doubt you have one installed.

The below link shows your graphics and the driver 94.24 is supposed
to be up to date May 31,2007.

http://www.nvidia.com/object/94.24_winxp_32_supported.html

You may also, download 'Driver Wizard' and it will work to find the proper
driver at the Driver Magic site which is a free download. Good site.

DriverWizard is Here->http://62nds.com/software/Driver_Wizard_setup.exe
You can ignore the message and just install the drivers anyway.

Solve : Drive fine EXCEPT for one CD-Rom, which plays on other computers but not mine.?

Answer»

Okay, I have to start off with the off-stated, and in my case QUITE apt admission, that I know absolutely nothing about computers. The problem I'm having is that I purchased a CD-Rom with a bunch of different files on it--PDF, audio, and movies--and the CD doesn't play. Although my computer (run-of-the-mill Dell, running WINDOWS XP) usually handles CDs with no problem, for some reason absolutely nothing happens when I try to play this disk. The good people from whom I purchased the CD sent me a second one (assuming they had misformatted the first one); however, the same problem persists. What makes it even more PERPLEXING is that when I gave it to an IT guy at work today, it opened on his computer immediately. He suggested I upgrade my Adobe at home (which I did today from 7.0 to 8.0) and to upgrade by CD drive. When I try to upgrade my CD drive, I keep getting the message: "Wizard cannot find a better match for your hardware than the software you currently have installed." Any HELP (in simple SENTENCES please!) would be MOST appreciated!

Solve : Win 98 Drivers for Sony DVD-ROM DDU1621?

Answer»

Operating under Windows 98SE.  Custom built CPU with 256 MB RAM; Intel P4 (Intel x86 FAMILY 15 Model2 Stepping 4).

I installed a Sony DVD-ROM Model DDU 1621.  Can not get Windows to SEE it.  NEW hardware wizard does not find it.  I obtained the software CD from Sony, however it will not read from the DVD-ROM.  Tried copying it across the network to the given computer, but it will not install from the hard drive.  Says it must be installed from the optical drive itself.

I solved a similar problem for Win98 SE and USB flash drives by installing native USB drivers.

Are there any such thing out there for DVD-ROM under Win98 SE?  Any suggestions to make Win98 SE see the DVD-ROM would be appreciated. DVD drives weren't AROUND with Win98 and i doubt Sony bothered to write drivers for it.
Have you tried the install from a USB thumb drive ? ?

The only other option would be to experiment with some generic CD drivers and trying that. You would need to EDIT your autoecec.bat and config.sys files to try this. You may be able to do this manually if you are comfortable with the procedure.

Let us know. You could try making an .iso image of the cd, copy it over the network, then mount it on your windows 98 machine.

Solve : Unable to use or see part of Hard Disk?

Answer»

Have new Laptop. Microsoft Vista. 80GB. But only 68.4GB is viewable and usable? Any reason for this???any solution? please HELP!!!!! TOSHIBA M200-A410.
This is normal... A few gigs of the HARD drive are going to be used no matter what, even if nothing is written on it. The first sectors of the drive CONTAIN the master boot record, partition table, etc and take up some of that space. You mentioned vista is one there... that also takes up space on the drive.

I just bought a 500 GB external harddrive yesterday and with nothing on it, there was 460 some gigabytes. This is normal and nothing is wrong with your drive.i find it odd that the bigger the hard drive is, the more unusable room you have

for example: the 20 Gig i bought for my Xbox = 16 usable
The 80 gig afterwards = around 65 usable
The 250 Gig afterwards = about 215
considering none of these had anything whatsoever one them, not even operating systems, and they were formatted for Xbox use, it doesn't make sense lol.

same principle for my pc hard drives... but they don't count lol...Formatting uses some space.
Plus, a drive sold as 80Gb will not be 80Gb in binary, where 1024b = 1Kb and so on, it will be 1000b = 1Kb.
Therefore the quoted capacity is less than the capacity seen by an operating system as the measurements of space are different.
Hope this helps.        Actual Hard Drive Sizes:

In your case peace because it's a laptop there is probably a hidden partition of about 3 to 7G which contains the RESTORE files for re-installing everything back to Day One.

Check your documentation on how to use this. That's what I was trying to explain, that size chart.  Thanks.
And the restore partition is a good point too, I have a 2.47Gb partition on mine for this purpose.
Confused me as well when I first got it.
You can see the size of it LIKE this - right click My Computer - Manage - Disk Management.
There you can see the size, format and health of all disks and partitions connected to your computer.
Be careful and do not do anything in this program unless you know exactly what you're doing, or you can cause major problems.
Also, don't format the hidden partition to get your space back or you'll be stuck.

Solve : Don't know which Sound Driver to install?

Answer»

ECS K7S5A is your motherboard. Look in belarc again and see if the chipset is identified as SIS7012 or SIS7018.I personally use Everest to ID my HARDWARE, not Belarc.

Everest download is---->Here

Off Topic P-Wood uses Belarc though. Looking back at the first post, it is the SIS7012. Go here http://www.sis.com/download/ and follow the drop down menus, then click go.Eh, got this error when I tried:

UpdateDriverForPlugAndPlayDevices
-536870397The file should be in .zip format. Did you unzip it.Lol yeah, it happend during installation.Looks like you tried to update the driver instead on installing it. Go to the directory where you unzipped it and look for its setup or installation file.It happened during the installation that launched when I clicked SETUP.exeDid you remove those extraneous drivers that you had downloaded? If not, do so, then try this. Go into device manager and remove the sound card. Reboot. If windows detects the sound card and offers to install drivers, cancel out. After the computer finishes booting, try the setup again. It didn't work. Maybe we should take that error message I keep getting literal?

"UpdateDriverForPlugAndPlayDevices"

I GUESS it wants me to update the Driver for Plug and PLAY devices, =/
if it's even something you can do, how do I update a Driver for PnP Devices?Very dark room must have light.

I think you need to go to start/run

and type:  sfc /scannow something isn't right here.

Read the below site and have your XP disk ready.

http://www.updatexp.com/scannow-sfc.htmlAllright, copied that I386 folder from my Windows CD and went to the Register Editor to change that folder thing like the site said I should and ran the sfc /scannow. However it gave no results, after the scan was completed it simply closed down and I take it as there were no errors and that all my files were intact.

There is a slight chance some of the old Drivers might still be installed, but only partially 'cus it's not showing up in my Add or Remove Programs. One of the Drivers I tried to install gave me a short message after running the .exe file saying it would be installed and be done in a few mins. After that however nothing happened, no matter how long I waited or how many times I tried. Is  it even possible for a Driver to only be "partially" installed and then not show up in the Add or Remove Programs?

Also haven't anyone else expereinced the "UpdateDriverForPlugAndPlayDevices" error before? So, you tried this driver?--->Here

If you already tried it maybe you got a bad download.Try again. In ur forum, postin' mah errors...

It's not working, it gives me the same error over and over again. And the readme ain't helping much either, I think it's missing some parts...

"To install Windows 95/98/Me/NT4/Win2000/WinXP drivers, please run SETUP.EXE in this directory;
To uninstall Windows 95/98/Me/NT4/Win2000/WinXP drivers, please run Control_Panel->
Add/Remove_Program->SiS Audio Driver"

Isn't it supposed to say WHICH directory after that semicolon?
Anyways I tried to run the SETUP.EXE from Add or Remove Prgrams, it did nothing but give me the godforsaken error again.

Why do you keep ignoring the error I talk about by the way, or is it just that you don't tell me about it and still make solutions based on it without TELLING me?

Whenever I run setup it GETS to arund 25% and I recieve theese, one after the other.

Pretty, aren't they?

I FOUND the driver but can't found it.
I missed my driver CD.
So,Please help me.
I WANT DISPLAY, Audio, LAN etc driver for the motherboard .
MSI MS-7191 motherboard.
Windows xp 64-bit & 32-bit.
AMD athlon dual core processor.
PLS help me.Searching MSI with your model, this is what was found:

http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=searchresult&keywords=MS-7191

Verify the search results before using any of those drivers.Sorry Saviour.
But I can't found the driver.
My moterboard is MS-7191 & there is no match found.
But thanks for a reply.Did you try to let Microsoft search for a driver?
Go to the Device manager do you see any yellow signs there?
This is what I found while I was looking for a driver.
You might want to take a look at it.
I understand very little of that language but maybe you understand it.

Jonas Ya I tried that. But microsoft can't find it.And yellow mark appear again.

That not my problem. Now the work very well. But there are many problems in that. So, I want to format it & install windows xp .
Before doing this I found my driver CD that came with the motherboard. But I missed it.

So,that is my problem & I can't found any driver in my pc so that I copy it.

Mainly I want only LAN driver. Other driver I can found or not its not a BIG problem. The model nr you stated is not the actual name of the motherboard but just a part nr. To find the correct drivers i suggest you try MSI's live UPDATE feature and see if that can't find the drivers you're looking for.
