Solve : NVIDIA New Graphics Driver Causing Problems In Games.?

Answer»

The  driver i just installed is;

ForceWare Release 169 WHQL
Version: 169.21
Release Date: 19.12.2007
Operating System: Windows XP, Windows XP Media Center EDITION

My Graphics card is : NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GS (x2) (SLI)
-
*Ever since i installed this new driver after about 5 seconds after starting up a game, the textures go insane and the game freezes up...

*Ive tried Warcraft 3  and World of Warcraft and the same thing happend on both, it must be related to the driver because the problems only came since.

*Before i installed then new driver everything was running fine apart from the ocassional texture glitch. I REALLY don't know what i can do to resolve this issue, this is the most updated driver from nvidia's websiteDid you delete the old drivers before installing the new ones? If not, try deleting them and reinstalling. Also, why not just install the old drivers again? Quote from: Soviet Genius on January 01, 2008, 06:26:24 PM

Did you delete the old drivers before installing the new ones? If not, try deleting them and reinstalling. Also, why not just install the old drivers again?

Did exactly what you said to do, deleted the old drivers then REINSTALLED the new one and the games are running smooth again. I feel like an idiot for not deleting the old ones now.

thanks for the advice. No problem  Ack, I spoke to soon
I just found out that the problem comes back when i Enable SLI.  Quote from: Soviet Genius on January 01, 2008, 06:26:24 PM

IM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM my card is geforce 6200
and i only have 1 driver on my computer what do i do!?There might be an issue with the new drivers. Was there a reason you stopped using the old drivers?

I'd go back to using the old drivers for now if there wasn't an issue with them. 'New driver' does not always mean better.where do i get a working old oneTry doing a driver rollback on the new driver.  It's possible that won't work since you deleted the old one before installing the new one, but it's WORTH a shot.  If not, I'd try going to Nvidia's website and looking to see if they have a link for older drivers. I've got all the LATEST drivers installed incl. the FULL 150 Meg setup, and EVERYTHING works fine except the SCANNING. It shows up in any given apps available scanners/Twain devices, and even brings up the scanning utility app. However when you actually hit the Scan or pre-Scan button it just STARES at you like a deer into head lights. Brother offers no SOLUTIONS that I've found, so I'm SEARCHING for more innovative solutions. BTW, I'm using W2k.

Solve : NTVDM sucking up 100% CPU Resources?

Answer»

Flight Sim 9 FINALLY died after trying to die for the last couple weeks. Per the Task Manager, NTVDM is sucking up all CPU resources when the game tries to start - the splash screen appears, then a blue BOX (NTVDM) appears and the game immediately crashes to the desk-top. Now all of a sudden my Sound Blaster isn't working and I suspect somehow NTVDM has corrupted the software. I deleted it out of Win/System32 but XP SP2 just cloned a new NTVDM. I tried THREE DIFFERENT Registry cleaners, Disk SCAN, etc. to no avail. Is there anything I can do to stop NTVDM short of wiping out my hard drive and starting over?Travel Here...And only one post is needed for an issue to prevent more confusion. I am locking this thread.

Solve : Driver causing random reboot??

Answer»

I'm getting pretty sick of this, and I've tried to be patient with it. But after the last time it happened, it said the SYSTEM has recovered from a serious error. I checked the details, and iirc its a certain driver (a driver from something other than windows) causing it. I'm not sure if its a third party driver or not, but this has to stop. Can anyone HELP?We're gonna need a lot more info on your system, OS and what happened PRIOR to this before this turns into a guessing game...I guess he figured it out, or blew up the COMPUTER.

Solve : Display config.?

Answer»

I bought the HP 19" widescreen monitor and i have been using it on my laptop but have noticed that the image seems to be stretched So I went to change the display driver and found that the only displays that were available were 1024x768 witch isn't going to work with a monitor that has a native resolution of 1440x900. I think I hear somewhere i NEED to get a new graphics card, but was WONDERING if I COULD download a new display driver that would support this resolution. What should I do?I know little about wide screen MONITORS, but if there is an adjustment for aspect RATIO, that could be your culprit. Wide screens do have a different aspect ratio than regular screens.Go into Display in Control Panel and change the resolution of the display there.
You cannot change the graphics card in a laptop.
What graphics card do you have?

Solve : Multiple monitor mystery?

Answer»

I was running a dual monitor system on my PC, running Windows FX with my Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 graphics card. The CRT monitor WENT south on me, and I replaced it with a flatscreen. The problem is, I can't the video card to recognize a second monitor.

I have uninstalled the driver, downloaded and REINSTALLED the latest driver. I have switched monitors to see if that's the problem; monitors are fine. The kicker is that every once in awhile, when I BOOT up, both monitors WILL work, and when the card recognizes both monitors, everything WORKS great. Then I will need to reboot for something and I lose the second monitor again.

:-/

I have called the local COMPUTER store, and they are clueless....

Solve : Vista Driver For Integrated 10/100 Ethernet Chip?

Answer»

I obtained a DELL Dimension 2350 and will upgrade the memory, graphics card and HARD drive, and then INSTALL Windows Vista Home Premium. The Dell site does not list a Vista driver for the 10/100 ethernet chip on this motherboard. Will Windows Vista install a driver for this ethernet chip which will allow it to function correctly. If not, will the Windows XP driver work in Vista, or are there any alternate sites where I can find the correct driver? This is one of the dilemna's for Vista...some XP drivers will run fine for Vista...some will not.
I'm afraid at this point the only way to tell is to try it.
I'm fairly certain though for an Ethernet chip that Vista should have it's own drivers included.
Should being the operative word here...Everything on Vista should have been BACKWARD compatable
but apparently it wasn't.

Probably be as MANY fixes and headaches as Windows Me
caused.

Did you TRY their web site? That seems like the logical starting point.

http://www.averatec.com/customercare/downloads.asp

Their contact info is here:

http://www.averatec.com/customercare/results.asp
Yeah I downloaded all the drivers from their site ( there the ones on my desktop ), and they all worked fine except the video and TOUCHPAD ones I've even tried downloading drivers direct from nvidia but they dont seem to work either, I just get that msg in the SS. maybe Im missing something? :-?1. Get the new drivers but do not install them.

The drivers on manufacturer's sites are often out of date and/or not working, as you have found out.
Glad you got it sorted and thanks for posting back - could you also post a link to this forum where you found the answer?Yeah sure here's the link for all the correct averatec 2300 series drivers http://www.averatecforums.com/showthread.php?t=5643Thanks, I bet that will benefit other users with the same issues.

Solve : Display Driver??

Answer»

Over the weekend my computer GOT unplugged before it shutdown properly. When we tried to plug it back in and restart it, it won't start normally. I have the option of safe mode, restore back when it was working, and start windows normally. Every TIME I try to start normally or restore it, it STARTS thinking for a while the goes right back to that same screen. I've gone into safe mode and msconfig to check all the startup options. Everything is turned off (except microsoft stuff). I tried to restart it and the same thing happened. I went back to safe mode and tried the system restore. It said it worked, but again when I restart it, I can only get in in Safemode. When I'm in the safe mode I get an error about my DISPLAY DRIVER not working correctly. The icons are huge, the whole screen is zoomed in and the color isn't right. I've tried to change the setting of the color dispay to high like normal, but it just keeps defaulting to low and not very many colors. I can USE the internet or my other programs, I just can't see the whole screen.

Someone PLEASE HELP me!!!!!! I don't know what to do next. It's probably easy, but I have no clue. It's so frusterating. I totally envy all the computer people. I'm jealous you all know so MUCH!!!!

Thanks,
jenniferTurn the items in msconfig back on, or at least the useful ones.

Verify all connections inside PC, reseat all cards and RAM, verify CPU fan is seated properly and running. Solve : PC reboots while playing MS Flight Sim 2004?

Answer»

Hello all,

I have a problem. I have not played my 2004 MS flight sim in awhile, so the other day I decided to play and the game starts off fine but as soon as I pull the yoke back and the plane leaves the ground the computer would reboot. I set the option to display the error code instead of rebooting and I receive the following MESSAGE BAD_HEADER_POOL I went into MS CONFIG and UNCHECKED MAPPING INDEXING and then got the error message BAD_HEADER_CALL So I switch back on the mapping index and from what I gather I have a bad or conflicting device driver. I know since the last time I actually played flight sim I have installed the following: DIAMOND PCI 7.1 EXTREEM SOUND CARD/ MEMOREX DUAL LAYER DVD BURNER that also came with NERO BURNING software BTW Nero always has an error when burning DVD's but that’s all I have changed with the computer and before that flight sim worked great. I tried to update all current drivers for the above mention items and all are updated or I already have the most current version. So at this point I'm at a loss as what to do now. Any help or ideas?

In my EVENT VIEWER under APPLICATION I see a few things that maybe related to the crash. I get APPLICATION ERROR and APPLICATION HANG and Under SYSTEM I get ERROR DCOM Event-10005

Here is the complete error message I receive on the blue screen:

BAD_HEADER_POOL

Nero always has an error when burning DVD's

What is the exact error message?

I would start with a free RAM test from www.memtest86.com and a free hard drive diagnostics from the appropriate drive maker's site.

Some details about the machine and the operating system, etc. could be helpful as well.If it is RAM, I have had some success with this test (cheesy to some I know but its worked in some situations):

1) Remember the place in the sim where it crashes - same place every time?
2) Do a soft reboot, play again, crash in the same place?
3) Now do a complete hard boot (unlpug PC power for about 30sec), boot back up and play again, does it now crash in a different area?

If so: likely RAM, try reseating or possibly using a different RAM slot (or remove 1 RAM stick at a time), use test software

Hope that helps out

The only sound device found is the modem. If I check with device manager - no sound card!

When I try to install drivers I get "VIA AC97 chip set is not enabled on BIOS"

Anybody any ideas???
You need to enter the BIOS to enable onboard sound on that machine if it does not have an add on sound card...on that MBoard i believe it is by HITTING delete repeatedly when booting.
After enabling onboard sound choose F10 to save changes to the BIOS and it will re-boot.
If you have no sound after that then try re-installing the sound drivers which will be found on the MBoard CD that came with the machine....or visit the manuf. site. Thanks for the quick reply.

There are 2 options in BIOS Auto and Disable. Bios is set to auto. I have tried setting to disable and then on re-boot changing back to auto, but with no luck. I have also got the latest drivers.

So now I am in a very silent world!Re-check your connections and all the settings in Control Panel/ Sounds and Multimedia...it's unlikely that anything would make a BIOS change if these worked before.
Post back and let us know....I don't think a BIOS flash is in order. Put that idea WAAAY down the list.

What happened before you had no sound? Surely it has not always been this way?Quote

Sorry I should have explained

My computer was running very slow especially when on-line. I took it to the local computer "mr fixit shop" and he removed a lot of junk files that had built up and he also sugested that I change from Zone Alarm to AVG. W

hen I got my computer back it was much much better. About a week later I became infested with trogons/malware/virus (I had a list but have dispossed of it) My computer would not start - it kept resetting before it got to the "xp screen" I had to reinstall windows and rebuild my files from my back ups (back ups made BEFORE infection) everything was great just no sound.

At first Device Manager found the sound card - REALTEK AC97 - and all the checks said that it was there and the drivers where upto date, everything was ok but NO SOUND.
I had by now reinstalled Zone Alarm and all traces of any infections had gone.

I took it back to the computer shop and he installed another HDD and used ghost to copy all my files etc. He then reinstalled windows on my original HDD and was able to get sound but only by using a USB sound card.

When he ghosted my files back to my original HDD, no sound, not even with the USB card. His only suggestion was to update BIOS because it was not finding the sound card.

Control Panel - Sound & Audio Devices = No Audio Device
Sound & Audio Devices - Hardware = Realtek AC97 audio for Via(R) audio controller = PCI Bus 0 Device 17 Function 5, Device staus = This device is working properly.

I'm really struggling with this problem (probably due to my lack of knowledge and experience) and don't want to do any more damage. I am still able to use the machine in every way except for lack of sound. It is not a vital requirement for me, but I HATE it when something doesn't work as it should Try re-installing your MBoard drivers...Quote
Try re-installing your MBoard drivers...

Still no sound!!! I would then give up on the onboard sound...those chips do go bad. Invest in a new PCI sound card...easy enough to install yourself.
1) Power down the machine and remove the power plug.
2) Open the case and install the sound card in an empty PCI slot. Make sure it is seated firmly and attach the single hold down screw.
3)Re-connect power and re-boot the machine.
4) Install the drivers SUPPLIED with the card.
5) Hook up your speakers and pat yourself on the back for your new listening experience.

Solve : Re-enable standard vga driver?

Answer»

While trying to update an AGP Radeon 9550 graphics card I kept getting a message saying "install standard VGA driver first". After many attempts and reboots, I made a serious mistake. Under "hardware configuration" I showed having no video drivers but the standard vga driver, so I disabled it and rebooted HOPING it would accept correct drivers finally. I discovered soon after that I had no video at all now. I figured out what I had done but have been unable to fix. So far I have tried "last known good config", windows recovery CONSOLE, safe mode(freezes at vidstub.sys), and enable VGA mode. Using "enable vga mode" does show my windows boot screen but then goes blank soon into the load process. I can HEAR and tell that Windows does CONTINUE loading like its sposed to except that I cant see it. I am now running a spare Windows drive and have my normal main drive set as slave. I can access it perfectly, I just cant boot with it. My question is the file name and location that contains the "hardware configuration". I am hoping it to be editable to be able to mark standard vga driver as enabled. Specs include Asrock 775V88+, P4, 3GHz, 3GB ram, XP(Home, SP2), sata WD 250GB, ide Seagate 250GB, ide Maxtor 160GB, ide WD 80GB, AGP Radeon 9550, dual 19" widescreens. Any help on how to fix without having totally reinstall Windows would be greatly appreciated. ThanksWindows version? Do you have a real Windows CD to do a repair install with?

It's a real version but an upgrade. Long story made short.. system came with ME on a HP recovery disc set but have since completly rebuilt system so to install Windows on a new drive I usually load XP upgrade, verify with a really old version of 95 standalone, and continue the install.Have a read:

Solve : BSOD, Probably driver problems?

Answer»

Well, I recently had a run in with the TrustIn Contextual malware, after which I've been having problems with Blue Screens of Death.
I'm absolutely sure that everything related to TIC is gone from my computer, so there must be something else that it did.

Anyways, every time I wake the computer up from a hibernation, I get a crash after varying amounts of time usually 5 seconds - 1 minute after the desktop appears.

Screen below.

The error message will show either NDIS.sys or bcmwl5.sys as the filename.

EDIT: I forgot, I also can't access google.ca or google.com, I get an UNABLE to connect error. However, I can get to google.co.uk
I'm not sure if this is related however it did start at the same time so I thought I'd put it in there.DLoad and run memtest on that machine...sounds like faulty RAM.

Let it run for a few hours...any error messages = bad RAM.

patio. 8-)Eh, I don't have a floppy drive, so I can't really run something that boots from a floppy. Is there an iso for it or something that can be burned to a CD?There are instructions for creating a CD. (Just another reason to always have an archaic floppy. )Well I let memtest run pretty much all night and nothing came up, so it would seem that the memory is just dandy.According to the error message the other 2 reasons can be a bad device driver or a damaged pagefile...
Have you added any hardware LATELY to this machine or are any DEVICES not working properly ? ?
To check this go to Control Panel / System / Hardware / Device Manager and check for yellow exclamation points next to devices...
Next thing would be to DLoad and run the HDD manuf. diagnostics to check for HDD errors. These are free and available at the manuf. site.

There still exists the possibility that the RAM is mismatched as well....have you recently added RAM ? ?

patio. 8-)I haven't added anything hardware related to this machine since I bought it, so that's why I originally figured it was bad drivers. Dell has a diagnostics tool built into the disk on its own hidden partition. So I ran that from boot, and the boot checking part didn't find anything.

After that it loads to a screen where you do specific tests related to what your symptoms are. So I ran the Blue Screen of Death tests and it didn't come up with anything. However, looking at the tests it doesn't do anything with device drivers, it just checks the L1 and L2 caches, main memory, and secondary memory.

So that's where I'm at right now.Does the Dell utility run a physical HDD TEST ? ?

There still exists the possibility that the RAM is mismatched as well....have you recently added RAM ? ? Yep, the Dell utility runs a HDD tests.

I've already said I haven't put anything in the machine since I've gotten it. No memory, no HARD drives, no nothing. I have not added anything to it, at any time.Gotcha.

Did you also check this ? ?

So I wouldn't have to click down into the hierarchy to find these exclamation points? Because there were none at the top levels.

So yeh, didn't have any exclamation marks anywhere in there.Sometimes you do but it's worth the effort.Yeh, I went through everything in there. I did update some drivers that were at an old version, but who knows if that will do anything.

But yeh, no exclamation marks anywhere. Are you using a wireless lan? The problem is most likely bcmwl5.sys. It is a Broadcom wireless lan driver distributed with some machines. It is total garbage. If you are using wireless, try going into device manager and reload or update the drivers. If you are not using wireless, prevent that driver from loading.Yes, I am using a wireless LAN.
Ok, I looked around in Device Manager to update this driver, but then I'm not exactly sure where to do this.

Thing is, under Network Adapters I've got:

Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller
Dell Wireless 1370 WLAN Mini-PCI Card

Looking at it, the Broadcom Controller is disabled, and I'm not sure whether the Dell thing is using that driver or what exactly is being used here.

Solve : Is There A Standard Driver For USB Sticks??

Answer»

Hey all.

My sister bought a USB stick which didn't come with a driver. The brand's MIKOMI. I've tried the usual search for the driver but had no luck. Their website is horrible!!

Anyway I was told that there might be a standard driver for basic USB sticks. Is this true?

Oh, she has Windows 98se as she only really uses MS Word. The stick is only 128mb in size. She has no connection to the internet so I'll have to bring the driver to her too!

Thanks.A driver? I was unaware that a flash drive (stick) needed one. I have a 1GB drive from PNY and it needs no drivers. Which begs the question: Did something on the computer tell you that you do?Well over the phone she told me that the usual "This device needs a driver" screen appeared.

I must reinstate that it is Windows 98, I believe this OS needs a driver whereas XP does not. (Although I might be wrong).I see. What I don't see is a Mikomi web site. I see mikomi.com.au, I see mikomi.net, but none of these seem to sell flash drives. Are you sure that's the brand name? Is there anything else on the flash drive?

And yes, I see now that you use Win98; I'm not sure how, but I missed it in the first place. There is a win98 unofficial service pack at the below site.

USBMan is a good site.

http://www.usbman.com/win98seusbguide.htmYeah that's the make OK. Here's the PRODUCT: http://www.argos.ie/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=30001&langId=-1&catalogId=10001&productId=663768&clickfrom=name

I've not been home so I don't have much other information other than this was the Mikomi site I found (the FLASHES are under IT Products):
http://www.mikomi.com.au/productDisplay.php?url=http://www.therange.com.au/2007/WritingInstruments/index.asp

It doesn't have information that previous product though.

As I said I thought I might be ABLE to install a different (similar) driver. I'm almost 100% certain that one doesn't exist for this product!USB was relatively new when Win98 was released. Drivers for it are hard to come by indeed.
You can try another name brand driver for it an incorrect driver shouldn't wonk the machine.

patio. 8-)Thank you for the advice.

She got hold of a few 'similar' drivers but none of those worked. After reading street1's link I'm pretty sure I'll have to enable USB in the BIOS.http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/win98/t1139568514 for a suggested download location for a driver that works. If you can't resolve this for that MIKOMI flash drive, I can tell you that PNY has a driver for Win 98SE for their flash drives. I know. I have a PNY USB 2.0 Flash drive and I've used it with Win 98SE by installing the driver. Here's a good deal on PNY Attaché 1GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive if you take advantage of the current rebate offer.

Edit: It's not a rebate, it's a special sale price now in effect.Hey guys I got it sorted. I was directed here http://www.technical-assistance.co.uk/kb/usbmsd98.php (through Wiki ). Once this driver was installed the device worked no problem.

Just thought I'd let you know incase the problem comes up again.Thanks. It will DEFINITELY come up again.

Any ideas? Is this something I need to run the re-install disks that came with the computer to fix the problem? Does this mean that the game card isn't working?
Thanks for any HELP.

According to the info posted at the site you are well within the games requirements:

Windows® System 98/ME/2000/XP OS:

* 800 MHz or higher CPU.
* 256 MB or more of RAM.
* 32 MB 3D graphics card with hardware TRANSFORM and Lighting, such as GeForce 2 or better.
* 4 GB or more of available HARD drive space.
* DirectX® 9.0c or above.
* A 56K or higher modem with an Internet connection.

I would travel to Dell's site put in your service tag # and grab the video drivers and re-install them.

The vid card is the problem though according to the error message. Thanks, I'll give that a shot.

DL65 Some All of these problems are Microsoft's - the way they designed Vista and problems with backwards compatability inherent with that design. What about signed WHQL drivers??Signed by Microsoft?Have you attempted dl65's advice given above yet ? ?The article is unavailable; I get a 404 error. But, Logitech, Creative, NVIDIA all have drivers for Vista for various devices. So, the original post here seems quite incorrect.

Solve : Computer Shutting Down??

It shuts down & says:your computer is shutting down to PREVENT damage. It says I need to disable a driver or update it. Can you tell me how to find the drivers? What do I do?Much more relevant info on your machine, OS and what happened prior to this and the posse' will be along shortly...Its a Compaq Presario 5000, Win XP SP2.1300mhz, A blue screen comes up, has a stop message:0x0000008e. Says driver ,FIRST letter looks like an upsidedown L 81xdnt5.dll, needs to be updated or disabled.Yep that message defininetly points to a driver conflict of sorts...have you added or subtracted anything from that machine recently ? ?

One place to check would be Control Panel / System / Hardware / Device Manager...look for yellow exclamation points.I got it solved, I hope, It seems to be doing alright now. I RAN CCleaner, SpyBot Search & DESTROY & that seems to have fixed it.Sometimes we are just that quick...

But i DOUBT seriously that a driver conflict could be solved by the things you did...expect more issues in the days to follow.LOL! I hope not!Trust me.

What happened prior to all of this? Can you try a system restore to a point before that? This will not fix defective hardware, but it may be enlightening. This may have 'to do' with your DMA settings.

The only thing i can think that i have done posibly is at some point a few months ago slotted in a 1gb Ram. I was very sure not to have knowcked anything and have chedcked all the connetions. could the new RAM have something to do with it?

I will look at enabling tha DMA if you think this will help although i have no idea what i am doing!i have checked the DMA settings according to that link and they are all fine.

Its all very wierd. i cant help thinking there must be a simple solution... but its looking very unlikely!I've Done it!!!!!!

Solve : How do you backup a HD and what does that mean??

Answer»

I understand it is a way of keeping record of the files and status of your PC. I don't know ANYTHING else, LIKE how to go about it. Where is the BACKUP stored, what steps to perform the task and how often are just a few of my initial questions I have trying to understand the process. Well there are numerous ways in doing so. You can copy all of your important files onto a flash drive(depending on size of memory taken on harddrive), you can burn them to a dvd, you can get an external harddrive, or you can simply get another internal harddrive and back them up on it. I would recommend an external harddrive only because of the storage that most of them support now and how fast the process can be done. Here is a place to get you started since USB external HARDDRIVES would probably be the easiest and fastest way...First we MUCH teach you how to Google. Click on this:

Solve : issue installing laptop network card?

Answer»

Hi folks,

I am experiencing problems installing a network card into my daughters laptop.

The Laptop is a Hi Grade Notino 3400 running WINDOWS ME the card is a Belkin Wireless G Notebook network card. I chose this card as it says that it is compatible with Windows ME.

I have followed the installation instructions installing the software first then installing the card at the prompt to do so. The Laptop then needs a restart to complete.

When restarting a message comes up saying that the Belkin network card is not installed properly and sure enough when restart is complete it does not work.

The card appears in DEVICE MANAGER with a yellow exclamation mark. I have ATTEMPTED to update the driver in device manager and I have uninstalled and reinstalled so many times that I have lost count.

I have tried the card in a friends machine so I know that the card itself is not faulty. Does anyone have any ideas, anything at all that I can try.

Thanks Guys

Llewitha
Is TCP/IP installed? Is Microsoft client for networks installed? Have you tried the internet connection wizzard? Thanks for the REPLY,

Yes the items you mentioned are installed.

I have previously had no problem using this laptop on a wired network through the same router that I want to access now without wires and also prior to this I had no problem connecting to the internet through the laptops modem.

Solve : CyberMax 21" CRT driver for XP needed??

Answer»

8-) Hi 'ya I went "Goodwilling" (thrift store) shopping the other day and came home with a huge but kinda nice monitor. $5 I would love to have an LCD of this size, but my wallet wouldn't.
I use Windows XP SP2 and the monitor is up and running, but I would like to make some adjustments that are not showing up in Control Panel. This may be because I am using this on my notebook right now, until I get my new system built. I use Photoshop, Premier and a few other graphics/video editing pgms., so I welcome the large display.
Does any one know where I can get drivers for this: CyberMax Computer Company 21" CRT, CX2100, Model #AT398 ?
I have "googled" it and see the company is defunct, but there should be a driver for this out there somewhere. I did find a German site that had a listing and picture of my monitor under the brand NAME of Magic, but could not find a driver for that one either.
Any help would be most appreciated.
Thanks in Advance
SteveIt would be unusual for a CRT monitor to need a driver. Let's hear about your graphics adapter and resolution settings in Windows. What "adjustments" are you trying to make?Hi 'ya GX1_Man; thanks for the reply.
Real HAPPY with my $5 investment, should work out well on the system I am building; AMD 4600+ X2, undecided video at this point, likely GeForce 7900 w/256 MB video ram and 2 gigs system ram.
On the notebook I have CyberMax connected to right now I am severly limited in video dept.
The notebook is a Fujitsu with a ATI RAGE Mobility PCI with only 8 megs video ram.
XP SP2 is set at 1024X768 32 bit color @ 60 Hz. Using MS XP driver 5.1.2001.0
I am wanting to increase real estate to fit more on screen, maybe 1200 X 800? I would love to change refresh rate to something over 60 Hz, 75 Hz would help tons.
I am still exploring this monitor settings on monitor itself, but have not FOUND any documentation to tell me what some of these odd menus are onscreen.
In Windows control panel, the only settings I can get are 1024X768 and a 60 Hz setting.
Any ideas? Any idea where documentation might be found on this monitor?
Thanks again for your reply
SteveIf that monitor is the vintage you describe AND if the video card has 8 megs. RAM I suspect that is the best you will ever do with that combo, regardless of any documentation. The videocard should be capable of delivering at least 16bit colour. It should also be capable of a resolution up to 1024x786. Have you ever installed the proper drivers for it?Quote

Thanks for the replies.
I suspect with the notebook's limited resources I am not going to get much out of this monitor, but what I am needing is finding documentation and drivers for my full system that is in the works and should be up and running soon.
I would sure like to change the refresh rate right now though.
Any idea where drivers might be found? I looked at sources that came up in first 10 pages of google SEARCH, but could find none for this brand of monitor.
Anybody know of other names this monitor may be marketed under, like Magic in Germany?
Thanks again,

Usually drivers are for video cards and fancy LCD's.Looks like I may just wait until I finish my full system I am building and see what HAPPENS with a good graphics card and drivers.
But any documentation on this monitor would be nice, would like to know what the specs are, refresh max, etc. I can figure out these odd onscreen menus eventually. (a lot of sets of numbers that don't seem to coresspond to anything)
Take care and if any info on this monitor comes through, I will be a happy camper.
Bye now,

Usually drivers are for video cards and fancy LCD's.

I use them for CRT's as well so I can get the highest possible refresh rate out of it, Windows doesn't always know the monitor so it assumes a standard monitor with lower settings.

But if you can't find drivers for it, chances are it's not capable of much more than the standard settings.

Solve : Device Manager Code 12 error? Need Help?

Answer»

Hey, im needing some advise or some kind of direction in trying to fix this problem...im getting a code 12 on a Linksys Wireless notebook card driver. The thing is i have had this device loaded on this laptop of mine and for no reason (at least not to my knowledge) it just stopped working. I've tried everything i know to do...i even deleted the partition and reformated the hard drive and reloaded windows xp OS and still its not working...same error everytime...

Does anyone have a suggestion for me? Let me know I would very MUCH appreciate it.

Thanks
jtadd247Its resource conflict, IRQ, DMA, Memory, or I/O. Try using the trouble shooter to see it can be resolved.ok, well, the prob is still there, i went through the entire trouble shooter on the code 12 error and still nothing. One major problem is i cant see what resource address the device is using because under the resource TAB it just informs me that i do not have enough resource memory. What leaves me puzzled is the fact that it worked three days ago and I couldnt tell you what happened because its my daughters laptop...who knows what she may have DONE. Im wondering it the problem is not in the bios....what would you recommend doing next....do you think flashing the bios with an update from dell would fix it. The laptop is a Dell D600.

flashing their BIOS.=Door Stop.If you do, take your time
and really read up on the procedure.

Systems: Dell Latitude D600 Series
Version: A15
Build Date: 01/26/2005

Read all of the below PAGE first.
I never recommend a BIOS upgrade but, this one
below mentions added support for wireless cards.

http://ftp.us.dell.com/bios/D600_A16.TXT

The newest BIOS FLASH for your laptop is
D600_A16.exe. See Below.

This is still a possibility. If this is a plug in wireless card, can you uninstall the drivers and try another card, at least for a bit, to see where the problem really is?

I don't think a BIOS flash is relevant if it worked one day and not the next with the same equipment.

Solve : Please verify GOOD or BAD advice to delete driver?

Answer»

I'm really note sure on what drivers Fed is making you install, most S3 videocards I've had installed under Windows XP ran were auto-detected.What Raptor said is right, removing all your video drivers & rebooting should allow windows to detect & install its built in drivers drivers for you.
To update if there's no exe file to click then try using your Device Manager and pointing it to the driver .inf file in the directory you downloaded.
You can also use Add/Remove Hardware from your control panel and point it to the downloaded stuff.I've spent several hours trying to find a KM400 driver to uninstall with no luck.

Remove or install programs doesn't give me the option of pointing to the new driver. Only options are: install from CD, or install from Windows update site.

In device manager, there is no driver named KM400.
The display adapter driver is VIA/S3G UniChrome IGP, which I've already replaced. (Didn't help)

I did a search for KM400, only results were websites I visited, and the download it's self.

It's alright to go ahead and have a good laugh at my being "DUMB as a stump" , I'm laughing too!
Then could somebody walk me through it, like I'm a six year old? Use your Device Manager to uninstall the VIA drivers, reboot and let XP do its thing, then come back here and let us know what's happened.

BTW, I said Add/Remove Hardware, you said Add/Remove Programs, there's a huge difference. Yep, your right about a huge difference. Guess I was tired when I read that post.

OK.. went to device manager, uninstalled display adapter driver, went to add hardware clicked on driver, rebooted.
On reboot got message: "New hardware found"- Install Wizard installed new driver. Got message: "Install Completed"
Before Install Wizard message came up telling me to restart my computer, the screen froze. Pressed RESET button.

When rebooted, all Icons were very small and elongated, "START" was completly off the screen. Screen resolution had been changed.
Changed it back to where it was. Checked hardware acclerator, it had been moved to full, moved it back to none. Checked device manager to see if video adapter driver had changed in any way, it looked the same. Then MACHINE RESTARTED.

I logged on to windows, all Icons came up and then the screen went black. Pressed RESET button again.

After rebooting, I checked Event Viewer, nothing showed up.

I came here to post results, but half way through typing results, it RESTARTED again. Just before Windows logon screen came up
the screen froze with nothing but the pointer on a black screen. Pressed RESET button.

Logged on to windows, all icons came up, clicked on ISP logo to connect to Internet, nothing happened. Clicked it again...nothing.
clicked another icon, nothing. Clicked "START", nothing happened. Waited a few minutes and tried again, nothing. Pressed RESET button.

Logged on to Windows, icons came up, clicked on wordpad, screen froze. Quitely screamed a few words that I can't print here and pressed the RESET button again. Feeling a strong urge to put my foot thru the monitor, I opted instead, to turn the evil machine off and walk away.

An hour later, logged back on, went to wordpad and wrote this post, saving my work after each line. Got online, came here and did a cut and paste.

Just realized I've been up all night, ...... again, it's 5:30 AM here!

Everyone should "BELIEVE" SOMETHING....
I believe, I'll catch a nap and get back with you later.
My computer was behaving in a similar way a few months back, i posted here about it, GX_man Reckoned it might have been my power supply.

Like your computer it would some times Run for a few hours, but more often than not it would reboot in a matter of minutes, i never did fix it, i bought a new comp instead.

Also i think it could be A Hard Drive problem in your Machine ,

But to rule out the Video Card , you might want to borrow a Video Card from some one , and try it in your machine, also i think you should try a Different Power SupplyAlthough Microsoft said the problem was video drivers I believe that's incorrect as the problem still exists when you're in safe mode.

Did you test your RAM yet?No, I haven't tested RAM. I don't have that kind of knowledge. Can you walk me through it, please. Some people seem to have a lot of trouble with this but I'll try and put it in simple terms for you.

Go to http://www.memtest86.com/
and download - Pre-Compiled Memtest86 v3.2 installable from Windows and DOS
to your desktop.
Put a formatted blank FLOPPY in your A Drive.
Double click on the file you downloaded.
Double click on the install.bat.
Reboot your computer, enter bios and set your A drive (floppy) as the 1st boot device (Note the original order)
Save your changes as you exit.
Your computer will then boot to the floppy and memtest will run.
Let it run for a COUPLE of hours and see if any errors show up.
Reboot your computer, enter bios and set your boot priority back to how it was, save your changes on exit.
After it boots, remove all the crap memtest left on your desktop.
Keep the memtest floppy for use some other time.

This may all sound a bit daunting but it's really quite simple.Nice instructions Fed...save those to the Vault.

Solve : unknown device in device manager?

Answer»

First of all let me tell that I know very little about COMPUTERS so I hope my terminology is correct. I bought my daughter a new computer 11 months ago and she is now having problems with the memory card reader. This is a Compaq Presario SR1603WM that came with CD-RW/DVD combo drive, 9 in 1 memory card reader USB interface, two USB external ports, windows xp, microsoft service pack 2. (anything else you need to know, just ask). Several months ago had a trojan virus while using Norton antivirus and am now using AVG and last scan showed no virus. The memory card reader has been used since then with no problems. A few weeks ago put the memory card in and it showed nothing. Looked under "my computer" and the only DEVICE with removable storage showing was CD/DVD. I tried troubleshooting on HP website and so far none of them have worked, including physically disconnecting the reader and reconnecting, reinstalling drivers and software, ensuring all devices are enabled, and compaq recovery (nondestructive). The only thing that changed after all that was in device manager under usb serial bus controllers there is an "unknown device". I ran the pc doctor and the report had "removed device: usb mass storage" (this was prior to unknown device showing up". Our IT guy at work suggested doing a recovery using the recovery disks, which I have not made and dont think I want to attempt on my own. Other suggestions have been that I have spyware that is messing it up but I have adaware and spybot and have ran both with nothing showing up. Short of having a shop fix this, I dont know what else to do. Any suggestions? You never made the recovery discs or youdon't want to use them? SOmetimes if you don't make them immediately it is too late later.

If you haven't DONE so, make these discs while we think about this further.

What if you delete those questionable devices in Deviice Manager and the memory card reader IF showing.

Just reboot the MACHINE and see what happens.

By chance do you have a printer attached with memory card slots as well?
TRY a restore point instead, if you are virus free.I will make the recovery disks. I am pretty sure I still can. It said on the option to make them that I could only make one set and was actually going to make them then but it required more disks than I had. I am kind of scared to try to use the recovery with the disks myself. Like I said I dont really know what I am doing very well but I can follow direction pretty well.

As for deleting the unknown device, I think it is the memory card reader because it showed up after I removed (per hp's troubleshoot advice) the memory card reader, turned the computer on for a while, then turned off and reconnected memory card reader, turned computer back on. But I have deleted all usb drives and rebooted and it is still the same. I will try again and post back results.
No printer connected at all.

Using a restore point was one of the first things I tried (sorry I had forgotten about that). It showed the restore dates but then said something about not being able to restore to that point or something like that, I dont remember exactly what but it would not let me do it. I think I am virus free. I will check again.

Solve : My new cd rom does not work properly?

Answer»

I did not try a data cd in the new one, the old one did fine with them until the door would not open.

I did not install the drives, they installed themselves- see my earlier postings.

I do not know what a jumper setting is...Can you remove the drive and make certain the IDE cable is properly connected?

Jumper settings are on the back of the drive; the sticker on top of the drive should have provided you with instructions.

I don't think it's a hardware problem, though. But we've got to be certain, anywayOk, now I got you, in the store I was told to to put the jumper on CS which I deduced was in the 3rd and middle setting based on the manual- there was no sticker. Which one is the IDE cable?Quote

Ok, now I got you, in the store I was told to to put the jumper on CS which I deduced was in the 3rd and middle setting based on the manual- there was no sticker. Which one is the IDE cable?

The flat ribbon cable with the large keyed connectors. Often grey/black. Leads into the optical and HDDs.

Are there any other devices attached to that cable and if so, are those set to CS as well?

If your CD-ROM is set to CS, it has to be connected to the Master connector of the IDE flat ribbon cable and not to the slave..

The middle connector is Master, the one on the end is slave. (The two conectors closest to eachother.)

This does not apply if you have an (IDE) flat ribbon cable with only one connector on each end.
There are no other devices attached to the flat ribbon, however it was attached to the connector on the end.

I downloaded, installed and ran the suggested cleaners but I did not have time to try playing a cd. I will let you know how that goes.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Have a wonderful day!Quote

Try setting the CD-ROM to master instead of CS.Ok did all of the above suggestions and it is still skipping. I did a diagnostic of the cd in itunes and got the following result:

Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional Service Pack 4 (Build 2195)

iTunes 7.0.1.8
CD Driver 2.0.6.0
CD Driver DLL 2.0.6.0
LowerFilters: AFS2K (3.1.20.0), CDR4_2K (5.3.2.31),

IDE\CdRomPIONEER_DVD-RW__DVR-111D_1.23____, Bus Type ATA, Bus Address [0,0]
If you have multiple drives on the same IDE or SCSI bus, these drives may interfere with each other.
Some computers need an update to the ATA or IDE bus driver, or Intel chipset. If iTunes has problems recognizing CDs or HANGING or crashing while importing or burning CDs, check the support site for the manufacturer of your COMPUTER or motherboard.
Current user is an administrator.

The drive DVDRW speeds are: 4.
I decided to try to play the cd using windows media player and it would not even play the cd- it just made lots of noise and then would not shut down- I had to end task. I am really baffled now.You could try finding IDE drivers for your mainboard on the manufacturers website.. Or perhaps you need a BIOS update.

What mainboard do you have and what drivers/BIOS are used?Where do I find that info?

Now when I go to My Computer it aknowledges the D drive but will not aknowledge that there is a cd in it. It says please insert disk. Then it freezes things up on the computer when I open and close the disk door. I tried switching everything back - the IDE cable (which is labeled CD1 and CD2 btw) and switched the jumper back to CS but it still does it.

Using the CS jumper can sometimes require a certain type cable, and all drives to that cable must be jumpered as CS. The one on the further end of the cable is Master and the connector in the middle is slave.

Usually a basic Master-Slave jumper setting works better for most people.

for PICTURES and details of settings for this driveThanks for the visual!! It is back on CS now- where I had it origonally and there are no other drives or devices on that cable. The old cd/rom that I removed had the jumper on master. I did try re installing the drives this morning before I had to leave for work. But it still is not recognizing a CD in the drive.

AND GET THIS.... When I opened itunes and played the album it imported yesterday there was no skipping at all.!?!?!?! :-?Use Everest Home Edition (Can be found in the FAQ section) to determine what mainboard you have.

What have you done prior to making the skipping stop? Reseated the jumpers?I wanted to thank those that were helping me. In the end I took the Pioneer DVD rom back and got a Memorex that was better suited to my PENTIUM II processor. I did have to reinstall the drivers on that one initially as well but it is now working well. The problem now is that it seems I do not have enough memory to upload songs into itunes. I think I will ask advice in a new thread. Thanks again!

Solve : Sony 1516DVD Rom driver?

Answer»

I am LOOKING for a driver for a Sony 1516 DVD Rom drive. Sony says it is made by them but because it was installed by manufacture, I don`t know which, I have to go to them for the driver. They don`t support this drive. Anyone know of the driver, which OEM manufactured might have put this DVD Rom in their system? Drive was made in 2006.Which VERSION of Windows are you running ? ?

Some don't need DVD drivers at all.

patio. 8-)Win XP Home edition.Shouldn't need drivers but i'm not certain.
One thing you can try though is Control Panel /System / Hardware / Device Manager...find the DVD listing and right click it aand select remove.
Windows will automatically re-install it upon re-boot.

p.s. If this doesn't WORK since it's an older drive it may have failed...

You can get a brand new DVD burner for around 40 bucks shipped these days.It would be quite rare for a driver to be needed beyond what Windows provides. How did you decide this was an issue? Not really an issue .. just wanted to make sure my driver was up to date. The Winxp program came with a 4 year old COMPUTER. I have done the window updates. The drive I have installed because the original failed, is only a year old according to the date of mgf. It's up to date. Now go and enjoy your computer.

So, there are no problems whatsoever regarding the video capabilities of my computer, like I can play games like age of EMPIRES II and I can watch movies and stuff, but only Steam games do not work. SO could I maybe reinstall CS and Steam and that could fix it?
What, exactly, happens when you try to play Steam games?

I'm not a gamer so I don't KNOW where Steam fits in the spectrum of computer games. I believe it's not the most demanding of games, is it? Anyway, you do need to keep in mind you've got an OLDER video card there that probably will not give you good performance on the more demanding games.

Do CS and Steam call for a specific DirectX specification? It might be higher than what
If your system works fine except CS and Steam games, you may need to upgrade your video card. And, DEPENDING on how well your system has been maintained, you may need, as others have said, to format and reinstall Windows.

Edit: Ah, I just went back and looked at your system info again. You're USING Integrated video. That's a limiting factor here. Give some thought to an add-on video card. Even an AGP NVIDIA GeForce4 MX440 will give you better performance than you onboard video, partly because it will free up your full 512MB of physical RAM for CPU use rather than reserving 64MB of that for the video adapter.

Do CS and Steam system requirements specify a certain DirectX capability? That may be a problem. I believe NVIDIA GeForce4 MX is a DirectX 7 GPU.

Let's start by finding out some details about the machine, operating system, what drives are in there now, etc.

The operating system is Windows XP, it has an LG CD/DVD player, an A-Open disk rewriter 48 x 12 x 50, is there anything else would you like to know

TomOpen the case/side panel of the machine. Make sure you have dis-connected the power source. There will be 2 flat ribbon cables coming from the MBoard one to the Hard drive and the other to a CD drive if you have one. Use the CD / empty one not the HDD one.
Mount the drive using the screws provided. The ribbon cable has a tab on one side this goes towards the TOP of the drive. Make sure it is seated firmly.
The second connector is called a Molex and supplies power to the unit. It is a 4 pin connector and is flat on one side. The flat side goes TOWARD the bottom of the burner. Make sure this is seated firmly as well.

For now LEAVE the side cover/case off to make sure things run properly.
Plug in the power and turn the machine on. hit the power switch on the burner and put a data CD in and open Windows Explorer. If you are able to see the contents of the data CD then congratulations you have done everything properly !
Replace your case/side panel and Happy Burning !Thank you Egghead for the infomation, even with my limited experience I understand what you said.Who is Egghead? Patio (Egghead)Quote

Kay smarty pants here's the question. You have a Panasonic PD/CD Rom 650MB SCSI drive that you are TRYING to connect to a Panasonic laptop which has a clean harddrive how do you install an OS without a cd rom. I'm trying to install either XP professinal or 98 on it right now it has Dos w/Win 3.1. The laptop is about 10 years old but meets all XP min requirements. How do you plan on hooking up a SCSI CDROm to the laptop ? ? Parallel port ? Serial port ?

These will be painfully slow.

If i were doing it i would buy a 2.5" to IDE connector cable and hook up the laptop drive to my desktop.
Then using a bootdisk of WinME or later USE FDISK to create a secondary partition of about 1G and copy the XP CD to that partition.
Then re-install the HDD to the laptop; boot to DOS; log the second partition; BROWSE to the i386 directory then type Setup and hit Enter.
