Not sure if it's XP or Vista, but I believe it has both. Thanks I will give it a try and LET you know how I make out.Hi I tried loading this one down a while ago it is Driver Detective. The only thing is that my screen does not have the ability to run the program as the wording is huge and it will not let me reduce it to push the right buttons and run the program. Is there anyway you could sendme the required driver to download,it would bemuch appreciated. THANK YOU>oh I'm sorry- If I had of known it was "driver detective" I wouldn't have even thought to send you the link...

http://driverscollection.com/?H=Aspire%203050&By=ACER

the VGA driver you would need appears to be the same size as the previous one, though.

As far as moving the window to push the buttons, you could try enter, or press "Alt+spacebar" and press "M", and move the window.

Solve : Hard drives mixed up? whats this problem???

Answer»

Compaq
OS: Windows XP
RAM: 512MB-1GB
CPU: Intel Celeron
Type: Desktop / Workstation

Question: Hi! My computer has a bunch of space on my C (presario) drive ... 56 out of 70 GB available. My H drive only has 54 MB out of 4 GB available. I believe this is because my primary hard drive is listed somewhere as my H. I think this because any time I try to download or update or save anything it tells me there is not enough disk space. I also get an alert telling me Im running on very low disk space on Local Disk H: and asking me to remove programs to free up disk space but there is nothing I can delete and I cant defrag. Disk cleanup doesnt help either. I have been able to move some files from H to C to free up some space for temporary files and I have to manually direct the file to be saved in the C drive. I know this cant be right. I have been into my registry editor and changed somewhere H to C... in two different spots...from the advice I recieved online but because of a few problems with running programs I switched them back. I want to know how to make my C drive act as it should and LIKEWISE with the H. Here are what the drives look like...

http://hosted.drpic.com/UYUC9TJ0YU

above is a link to the screen shot of my disk management window (since the one posted seems it might be difficult to look at) so you can see exactally what I am dealing with...
any help would be greatly appreciated!
thanks!

How is your boot order set in BIOS?
On which drive is Windows installed?i believe my windows is installed on my H drive. I am not at that computer right now but i am PRETTY positive its on H. I dont know how to check the BIOS... im not completely computer savvy so i dont know how to check that. or EVEN really what that is ?? lol.I think, your best option would be to use some free partitioning tool, like EASEUS Partition Manager: http://www.partition-tool.com/ to merge both partitions. Before any CHANGES are made, you might want to be sure that the 4G partition is not just the normally HIDDEN restore partition. Big name OEMs like to place a hidden partition on the drive that has a complete restoration image and all the original drivers on it. If Windows craps out on you, then this is what you would boot to and restore the system from. Wipe that out and you may wipe out the only copy you have of the original software (Windows, Office, etc.).Very good point

Solve : Specified monitor unknown What the heck???

Answer»

Ok, I am unsure of my problem here so let me start off by stateing my system setup:
Gateway Computer, Microsoft Windows XP home edition service pack 2, and printer is a Lexmark 1100 series X1185.

Great now that thats out of the way, here is my problem. I installed this printer a LONG time ago ( approx,. 3 years). About 1.5 years ago, it quit printing due to some type of spooler error. I looked at the Lexmark website and found how to fix it inside the pooler software side and PROBLEM SOLVED.

Great, rocked on like that for a while and printer again quit working about 4 months ago. Don't believe this will be a spooler problem this time. The computer sais Cant communicate with printer and so I did the sudjested troubleshoot by uninstalling and restarting and attempting to reinstall. Yeah, You guessed it, I don't have the instilation CD anymore, does anyone hang on to those. I traveled to Lexmark.com and found and downloaded the current driver for the Lexmark X1185 printer and did all of their instructions. In fact, the only part that is confusing is missing from their instructions. At the end of using the add a printer wizard, an error message pops up and reads "Could not install printer, specified monitor unknown." What the heck is this. please help and feel free to call me a 4 year old if this is a 5 year old skill level problem.

Thank you in advance, TaquecopDid you disconnect the printer while installing the new software?

These are the DRIVERS you used correct?--->Herethose are the drivers I used and no the cables never became disconectted. The Found new hardware bubble continued to pop up every time I entered the add printer wizard and began searching for hardware. every thing goes great until the end and a error message pops up saying "Printer not installed Specified monitor unkown" What monitor is this speaking of and how can I satisfy it in order to simply let me proceed with my printing ability.Quote

so I did the sudjested troubleshoot

What?

Quote
I don't have the instilation CD anymore, does anyone hang on to those.

Yes, we do. What if you can't get to the Internet to download a driver?

Are you supposed to install the software before you connect the printer?Quote from: Aegis on October 31, 2008, 06:14:31 PM
Yes, we do. What if you can't get to the Internet to download a driver?
Or even better, you NEED the driver for an ethernet card, and can't find the CD- unfortunately you need the NIC to connect to the net...ok I'm sorry, I think that I could be helpped out a lot if I were to know what the error message is talking about, and I will copy and paste in :

"Cannot install this hardware

There was a problem installing this hardware:

Lexmark X1100 series

An error occured during the instilation of the device

The specified print monitor is unknown"

If anyone could please let me know what this error is refering to or maybe just tell me how to rid the problem or even just bypass it, that would be great, oh and I went to microsoft download page and they had a way to bypass it, didn't work thanks again.DLoad a fresh copy of the Drivers street1 linked to.
Open Control Panel/Add/Remove Hardware and un-install the printer.
Go to Add/Remove Programs and un-install any Lexmark software listed.
Power down and dis-connect the printer.
Re-boot and install the driver and it will prompt you for when to connect the printer.Ok Patio, normaly your always right, and I think you will be if you continue on this one, but I tried the whole delete and reboot deal, didn't work this time but thanks for your effort, I think we can get through this, Again appritiation in advance for all help issued.Ok Patio and everyone, I figured it out by searching online, and I want to share it with you because I have no idea why this has happened to me or even what this is. I was told by someone haveing the same problem with a diffrent printer to right click on my computer and click on "Manage", then to click on "Services and Applications", more items will drop at this point , then click on Services. At this point Look for a file named "LexBec Server", if the server is switched to "Disabled", then right click it and change it to "Automatic"... PROBLEM SOLVED... Don't ask how or why, but problem solved,,,, thanks everyone!I have no idea why a service would be installed then set to disabled as a default...but glad to hear you are fixed up.Very nicely done, taq! Thank you for posting your findings, and solution! Was following this with interest - glad to SEE a result and an interesting result too.Good research taquecop.

Solve : Resolution won't reset after installing new ATI driver?

Answer»

Long story short: I had a very old ATI driver that was giving me trouble on newer games. I installed the latest one thanks to Mobility Mod, and everything was fine and dandy, minus the fact that powersave on my monitor no longer worked. I tried to fix this by going back to an older driver version-- big mistake, for now the resolution on my monitor has whacked out.

The max resolution on my main monitor is 1280x1024, and on my 2nd monitor its 1680x1050. CURRENTLY, my main monitor won't display higher than 1280x900. And, happily, I still have the issue of the powersave not working. (This might be a software problem, since changing the driver seemed to have no effect. Can't IMAGINE what software is causing it, though; hijackthis SHOWED nothing out of the ordinary.)

I'm currently running a Radeon X600 VIDEO card with the 8.512.0.0 version of the driver, and the 8.7 version of Catalyst Control Center. (Not sure how that happened, actually. I thought I'd uninstalled Catalyst, but apparently it decided to stick around anyway.) I have XP SP2 on a Gateway 7510GX laptop.

I'm a touch desperate at this point. Any advice, great or small, would be much appreciated. Uninstall all instances of your video drivers and start over by trying the
original drivers.--->GoHere

Reinstalling the original driver worked a treat. Standby POPPED on happy as you please, and I was able to set the screen to the proper res. Looks like the power save problems were a driver issue after all.

I'm wondering if I should leave well enough alone, at this point. While it would certainly be nice to have the newer driver for the couple of games I buy every year, I'm not sure that it's worth the hassle.

New drivers are not always the best drivers...patio is correct here....as always.

"Driver not found !Reboot your system, and run this setup again" I tried restarting the m/c and reran the exe..but the same result. The message is really very weird right? as its installing the drivers and itlsef stting that driver not found !!!

I had done the same exercise before with the one which also stated in dell site, but had the same error message.

Do help.Dell's only like Dell drivers...it's been this way forever.
Travel to Dell's site...enter your Service Tag # from the rear of the machine and it will list ALL the drivers that machine needs....
Chipset/MBoard drivers ALWAYS go first.I got a list of @ 49 files.. i have attached the snapshot of the same
can you please advise what to install and in what order.

[Saving space - attachment deleted by admin]Well i can't clik on those links but there is only one chipset driver set and this is the most important one...DLoad and start with that.
Remember to re-boot after every driver install.
I have uploaded the doc with the list of all the stated files.
If feasible, can you now let me know what to install and in which order,

Solve : problems with external hard drive...?

Answer»

So about a month ago i was using CCleaner and accidentally removed EXPLORER.exe and a few other important...things(?). A friend gave me a copy of explorer.exe and i tried reinstalling it. nothing worked so i just installed a new windows XP professional. All was fine except i was having problems with my music(and IM sure other files) on my external hard drive. Every time i tried to open a music file and play it with either windows media player or VLC player, i would get the blue screen of death. The screen said i had a BAD_POOL_CALLER or something like that. The technical info for this was: *** STOP: 0x000000c2 (0x00000007, 0x00000C3E, 0xE1747501, 0xF5FFACA8) I wasnt really sure what to do so i downloaded driverscanner 2009 and updated windows fully as to get the newest versions of all drivers. Once, again nothing worked so i decided to change from FAT32 to NTFS. I didnt know what it would do but it seemed to make sense to me. Once i changed my external to NTFS, i got a new blue screen of death(yippy!) that now says something like IRQL not_less_or_equal . Im not sure what the technical info is but im sure i can reproduce the blue screen if necissary.

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.Have you tried to boot with video, ram, keyboard, and mouse only,
all hardware not needed to boot disconnected,or removed from
slots and USB connections?Bad Pool Caller:

Quote

A kernel-mode process or DRIVER incorrectly attempted to perform memory operations. Typically, a faulty driver or buggy SOFTWARE CAUSES this.

See Here.so i havnt been able to reproduce either blue screens, which i think is a good thing. I think some sort of update solved the problem. But i still cannot use external devices completely. I can listen to music on my computer with no problem (as far as i can tell. The problem may reoccur). The music is stored on the external HD of course. The only problem im having is with Winamp. Whenever i try to sync my Archos(mp3 player) Winamp has some sort of error and closes.Quote
i was using CCleaner and accidentally removed explorer.exe
Impossible (!!) with CCleaner. Tell the truth what really happened. How is it impossible? I could have sworn i did it...

i was using CCleaner and said i wanted to delete some explorer files(i think internet explorer and explorer.exe are related, thats what a friend said). Once i got down to some explorer things my computer just froze up and when i restarted an error box came up saying i was missing explorer.

I swear thats what happened.Quote
How is it impossible?
Because it is. CCleaner in no way would remove any legit Windows file.then i have no answer. I just know i was using CCleaner and my comp froze so i restarted and it said i was missing explorer. Unless it was some huge coincidence where explorer just got swept away by something else while i was using CCleaner.

Hmmmmmm

Alright. So ive solved all problems except for one. Now, my external works fine but i still cant sync my Archos 604 wifi. I cant sync in WMP, Winamp or manually. WMP and Winamp just close and say sorry for the inconvenience and all that crap. After i format the Mp3 player and add the four thousand some files it all goes fine for a while. But soon enough, an error screen comes up and says that either the selected file is missing or the mp3 player has been unplugged... and its neither.Sounds like an issue with the Archos software...
But seeing how these details are coming late here it's anybody's guess...

Keep in mind we cannot see your machine from here...even on a clear day.

Solve : Odd DVD install?

Answer»

I installed a new Sony DVD DRIVE for a friend. I set the jumpers to be the master at the end of a ribbon cable and the existing CD rom to Slave in the next connector down. This was suggested by Sony Support ALTHOUGH I didn't think it made any difference which was master or slave. The drive was recognized as a PNP and reads data DVDs with photos on it fine. The problem is that it will not read a purchased movie. It came with some DVD movie viewing software but I have an Interactual Player already installed. It is RUNNING XP w/sp 3 but is about a three year old Dell. I don't remember the model. When I PUT a movie in it opens the player then just freezes. Got any ideas before I hang on the phone with Sony again. ThanksTry a new ribbon (IDE) cable...if it STILL does the same thing return it for a new one. Thanks, Patio, I will give it a shot.

Solve : 2 disc drives will not read?

Answer»

I have two disc drives--one that reads cds & dvds and one that reads and also burns them. Neither of these will recognize that a disc is even in there--when I try to play the disc or open the file it says "please insert a disc." The dvd burner drive does show how much disc space is available if there is a disc in, and when I try to open it, the menu that should show the disc contents is empty. This happened after we took our computer on a long trip to have a different issue addressed--could something have been jostled loose? Or is it more complicated than that? Any ideas?Open a side panel and check the IDE cable is snug both at the drive end and the MBoard end...I'm sorry...is that the flat, wide cable or the three little wires, red white & black...because those are the ones I've been messing with and one has been COMPLETELY unplugged this whole time...but I out it back in and the PROBLEM REMAINS... thank you and I'm sorry I am so ignorant about this! The ribbon cable is the IDE or data cable...
The other connectors are the power connectors. You may have to try another power CONNECTOR. They do sell extensions if it's a little short.

For future REFERENCE, go to ati.com, click graphics drivers, choose your OS, and then try legacy (discontinued).98 but I'm only seeing 2000 an xp an vistaSorry, I edited my post as soon as I posted it.
98 drivers are there - on the ATI drivers section, you need to scroll down to the bottom, and 98/ME are under Legacy.Sorry was able to find it then you beat me to it.

I think I GOT it, and the computer made this drive not a usb port though I know what you're talking aboutQuote

Is this a usb drive!......it like GETTING dollars from fort knox!

That would be easy compared to this.

I think he's attempting to say. He REINSTALLED Windows which created a 2nd partition (E) which is now the boot partition, original partition (C) is still there. He wants to remove E and boot to C.

I say: modify the boot.ini file to boot from the partition you want. Or, kill the WHOLE drive and start over.please tell me how i can delete drive e i want to use drive cit's been TWO YEARS and your STILL using the same configuration? If this is somebody else, start a new thread describing your problem.

Solve : sound suddenly doesnt work after installing new video card.?

Answer»

Ok, so i just recently fixed my crappy computer and then i installed its necessary drivers it was missing.
Everything was smooth and my sound was working perfectly fine, but right when i install my new video CARD everything just went blah. after i installed my ATI Radeon HD 2400 pro video card the sound didnt work. infact, the driver went completely missing. I tried reinstalling the sound driver but when i reload it doesnt work.
The sound driver i USED was an AC'97 audio driver from realtek.
when i go to my drivers window, it shows that there is some conflict with my PCI driver.
There was no problem with it at first untill i installed my video card. Perhaps it is a conflict between my INTERNAL video card and my new external video card?

Any help on this problem would be greatly appreciated!~ =]anybody? What exactly does Device Manager error say?
What Windows version?

Solve : xp 64 driver for HP photosmart 1000?

Answer»

Hello,
I would like to see if I could get a driver for my old (Hp photosmart 1000 printer). It would be for my (Windows xp pro. 64 bit system.) I of course CHECKED the HP sight and they stopped updating that model printer for xp pro 64 bit system and also the vista system. Has ANYONE here used, or do you all know if there are any other HP printer DRIVERS that would work with the HP photosmart 1000?

I know it's an oldie, but I like to use it for test prints and sometime letters. I have a huge Epson printer for large photos that I work with. XP Drivers.

I'll tell you from experience that if there are not 64bit drivers for it then you are out of luck...this goes for any device on a 64bit OS...no drivers...no joy joy.Read all of this page it may help you.--->GoHere

Solve : Sound problems?

Answer»

I formatted my Dell 9100 PC this morning due to a MALWARE infection and it needed a clean start and it certainly from spending few hours downloading software I had on it before feels better for the rebooting, I have also installed Windows Service Pack 3 as I'm trying to install Adobe CS4 as it asks for it, and now I go to to WMP11, try playing music, I get a red cross next to the song title of every song I try play and get the error code -

"Windows Media Player cannot play this file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might be not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another programme or it might not be functioning properly"

I know after I rebooted it, I removed a ton of programmes mostly trials run and crap I'd never use as I have superior programmes to the ones they were reccomending, I got rid of Creative Media (not sure on exact name) but when I've used it in the past it's always been a similiar product to WMP which I don't need, but now I remember durrrrr, stupid me, it also was related to Soundblaster or something LIKE that what might of been the sound device I think as that was always the master control for the volume of the speakers (AVERAGE dell ones that came with the computer).

Is this my problem that I got rid of this software when I got to Control Panel then Sound devices, it says none installed or something similiar. Urgh, my stupid mistake. Any idea how I get it back instead of rebooting back to shop standard which I presume is not good for my pc. THANKS in advance.Go into Device Manager & see if your sound card is recognized/enabled / if so do you have the software for it? / Go into Control Panel & run Add/Remove hardware. Again, have the software for it handy.

Solve : differance between 8GB SSD and 120GB HDD?

Answer»

i was hoping someone could help me by telling me what the differance between a 8GB SOLID State Drive and a 120GB HDD? and which would be BETTER to look for?
i am currently looking at buying an Asus Eee 900 notebook which has the 8GB SSD or an ACER one notebook with 120GD HDD everything else is the same? An 8GB SSD has, obviously, much LESS storage space, but will be QUIETER, consume less power, and may be faster in certain aspects.
Hope this helps, and welcome to the forums.

Solve : NVIDIA Drivers Won't Install?

Answer»

My main Christmas present this year was a NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT for PCI-E 2.0. The problem is I cannot get it to work.

My old card was a NVIDIA GeForce 6600 and it ran on the same PCI-E slot I have placed the new card into.
I uninstalled all the drivers for this card, booted the computer into safe mode, and USED drivercleaner to wipe the remaining traces of the 6600 Drivers.

I then removed the 6600 and replaced it with the DUAL slot 9800.

The monitor doesn't seem to work when I plug it into the 9800 card(it doesn't work on either of the two slots), but it will work when plugged into the computer directly.

When I rebooted the computer(while plugged directly into the computer) windows recognized new hardware. However the 9800 wasn't what it recognized. The hardware wizard wanted me to install something called a VGA(I assumed this was the intergrated video card).

I inserted the 9800 installation disk and when the menu came up I chose to install the drivers. The following error message appears when I try to do this:
"The NVIDIA Setup Program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. Setup will now exit."

I searched for a good few hours on the trusty Google and finally came to the conclusion that I needed to disable the intergrated video card. The only video card I could find in the device manager was the VGA(that was mentioned earlier). There was some error going on with it(I didn't investigate that matter), but I disabled it.

I rebooted the computer, and at that point windows didn't recognize any new hardware at all. When running dxdiag the VGA still appears as the video card.

Some more searching was involved and I decided to see if I could disable the VGA in BIOS. I haven't the slightest idea what motherboard I have, but after searching around in BIOS for a bit I couldn't find anything having to do with the VGA card.

When I was in BIOS I did notice that the video slot being used was PCI instead of PCI-E. I switched it to PCI-E, but I still haven't had any success with this.

When attempting to install the video drivers directly from the NVIDIA site I get the same message I do when I try to install from the CD. Also the card seems to be working(the fan is spinning) despite the fact that windows won't recognize it.

Also for some reason, even though no video cards are enabled, the computer appears normal. I mean that there is no color distortion and everything is working correctly. The screen and icons have reverted BACK into the 800x600 mode, but besides that everything is the same.

Here are the specifications of the card I'm trying to install:
EVGA
NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT
512MB DDR3

And computer specifications:
Gateway E4300
Windows XP Professional SP3
Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.00GHz (2 CPUs)
1 GB System RAM
Direct X 9.0cI was under the impression that PCI-E 2.0 was backwards compatible. Am I wrong?

Apparently my system BIOS hasn't been updated since 2005...
That could be a problem.
I'll update that to see if it helps any.Quote from: HollowNobody on December 26, 2008, 09:10:55 PM

Apparently my system BIOS hasn't been updated since 2005...
That could be a problem.
I'll update that to see if it helps any.

Well my BIOS hasn't been updated since 2005, but I can't find an update for it. I also have become very confused as to what motherboard I have.
EVEREST lists it as unknown.

The motherboard says Intel on the side, but the BIOS version indicates that it is a Gateway motherboard.
When I go to the Gateway site to look for BIOS updates I am redirected to another site that apparently now handles all "Professional" unit computers made by Gateway. It's called MPC. MPC's site simply lists the FACTORY installed components for my computer and states that my computer is no longer covered by their warranty.

Is there still a way to update the BIOS?

Solve : Missing VGA Controller[VGA Compatible] Drivers?

Answer»

Well I recently upgraded my hard drive and so I re-installed Windows XP, downloaded all the updates, and there is a drivers CD that originally came with my PC so I just popped that in when I re-installed Windows and I thought it took care of all my drivers. Later while I was surfing the web I was reading a news article when I wanted to scroll down the scrolling was choppy and not very fluid. I first thought it was because of Internet Explorer or that particular website so I switched to Mozilla Firefox and tried other WEBSITES still the same thing, also when I WATCH videos -online and offline- I tried to MAXIMIZE the video and it turns a little choppy it plays fast and the audio works great too but you can see like choppy lines when it is maximized. It not my mouse either because I tried other mouses with this PC and the same result and the when I use the scroll bar same thing. So then I though may my computer is just really slow but all my programs work really fast. And I have a broadband internet connection. I thought maybe it was a virus buy Kaspersky Security found NOTHING. i never had this problem before I upgrade my hard drive. So I thought my monitor looks likes it works fine so I checked Window's Install new hardware to see if I was missing any drives and it turn out I'm missing a VGA Controller[VGA Compatible] driver. I think it is for my graphics controller(I don't have a graphics card my motherboard has integrated graphics). So i went to my Monitors property to see the type of adapter I have and it says that the adapter info is unavailable. I have Biostar P4M800-M7A motherboard with and Intel Pentium 4 chipset. So can some one tell me what type of graphics controller I have for this motherboard and where I can download these drivers? Also it because I am missing this driver causes the choppy scrolling or am I just imagining it? you have the S3 UniChrome integrated graphics, it's part of the VIA P4M800 + VT8237R chipset

you can get the driver here:

http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx?PageID=420&OSID=1&CatID=1160&SubCatID=150

ref: http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=P4M800-M7&cat=MBB

http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx?PageID=2&OSID=1&CatID=1160

Good LuckThank you very much! All those problems are fixed! No more choppy scrolling! Thanks again!

Solve : HELP! Toshiba satellite m200 driver for xp sp2?

guys! does ANYONE here knows where can i find drivers for my laptop satelite m200? help please! . i rili NEED this one. http://www.nodevice.com/driver/Satellite_M200/get47866.html

If you need a driver for something specific, try Google, if not, let me KNOW and I'll try and help.I think it's better to try Toshiba's site directly. (Actually what would be best is if you had the driver CD that came with that SYSTEM. Do you have this CD?)

I didn't see this model listed as a Satellite model. It was listed as a Portege. GIVE this site a try and let us know. Laptops should only use drivers from the laptop manuf. site period.
Any others will certainly give you issues...

Solve : Sound driver?

Answer»

I recently reformatted my computer for the first time and as a beginner i've run into a few problems, that ive managed to fix, however the one persistant problem is that i can't seen to get my sound to WORK. I'm using a Intel 945PL motherboard, and ive attempted to install the Realtek AC'97 driver that i got from the intel website, to no effect, ive tried to install it 3 times and I still don't have sound, at the moment im clueless as where to get the driver or how to get my sound to work. Any help would be appreciated.

My operating system is Windows Home Edition Version 2002, service pack 2Did you reinstall motherboard drivers?Well i ran my motherboard CD and it basically didnt work at the start, so now im just trying to download the driver from the internet.Quote

it basically didnt work at the start
Be more specific.Well i tried installing the INF utility first and it didnt work, so i thought it would work if i just clicked the "Xpress Install" button, which installed all the drivers and such on the CD, but it still didnt work after that, so i went back into the CD and attempted to install the Realtek sound driver separately, but before i could do everything, all the options had greyed out and i couldnt do anything with themI just performed a driver detective scan on my computer and from what i can see it looks like i dont even have a sound card? Thats odd, my computer had perfect working audio just 2 days ago before i reformatted....Stay away from Driver Detective!

Solve : Problem with Drivers?

Answer»

Recently my brother installed drivers from the toshiba site on to my toshiba L25 XP Pro SP2. Since then my system has been running very slow on bootup and programs take along time to load. It seems that the drivers he downloaded were run from the site over what was already installed. Drivers show no conflict but some drivers state not installed but working.

Any help will be much appreciated, ThanksI would travel to Toshiba's site and DLoad the correct drivers according to your model # and OS...
Then compare the filename with the one your brother installed...sounds like they're not the correct ONES.Thanks for responding:
I did check and they are the ones on the site that he D/L. This pc is from a previous owner, not brand new. I did noticed there was a reference to a program "driver scanner" which I cann't remember the name.

Can you sugguest anything else?

Did find the program: versiontracker, program no longer on pcQuote

Drivers show no conflict but some drivers state not installed
Says what? Device Manager?under system devices:

ATI SMBUS No drivers are installed for this device. But under resources tab shows conflicting device list, Input/Output Range 8040 - 804F used by: Motherboard resources

Direct memory ACCESS controller: No drivers are installed for this device.

listed Twice - (1) Motherboard resource: No drivers are installed for this device.

(2) Motherboard resource: No drivers are installed for this device. But under resources tab shows conflicting device list, Input/Output Range 8000 - 805F used by: ATI SMBUS

Numeric data processor: No drivers are installed for this device.

Programmable interrupt controller: No drivers are installed for this device.

System board: No drivers are installed for this device.

System speaker: No drivers are installed for this device.

System timer: No drivers are installed for this device.

Would like to note on all above entries, on General taps, Device usage, it's listed as use this device (enable). On Resource taps there all listed as setting based upon (current configuration) which is greyed out. Could this be the problem?

Would be willing to send Everest report if asked.

I would re-visit Toshiba's site and/or contact the seller to see if he has the original Toshiba Driver CD.I did look at the site and matched what they had for this model, and what was downloaded is on this system, there wasn't much up there. The most current download is for the year 2006.
When I purchase this system from the previous owner, he stated he did not receive a CD and I wasn't to concern at the time cause it was running fine.

I GUESS my last question would be if those drivers were not installed that I've listed previously, would disabling them make a difference? They need to be installed properly or that machine will continue to give you HEADACHES...

I don't quite understand this...i think you've gotten caught up in finding NEW drivers ...forget that. Install the ones for the machine ...Ok, I'll try and do that, thanks again.

Solve : Problem burning CDs?

Answer»

I have been having trouble burning CDs on my laptop. I've had this problem for a while now, off and on. I used two different music programs to attempt to burn a cd (windows MEDIA and itunes) and both gave me an error and ejected the blank cd. I know that it is not the CDs because I have been able to burn songs on the cds that I am using. I previously READ somewhere else that it could be that my cd/dvd drive needs to be replaced (it is about 3 years old). I was wondering if this could be the problem or if there was any way to find out what the problem could be.
I have HP Pavillion dv4230us laptop with windows XP sp2.any entries in event viewer, application that may give an idea on what the issue is?

(do help on OR google event viewer)

Good LuckDLoad install and run CDBurnerXPro and do a few test burns...
It's FREE and will tell US if it is the drive or not.ok i tried to burn a disc and it gave me the following error:

Burning error occurred

An error occured while burning the disc. Most likely the disc is not usable. Usually, these errors happen in the inserted media is not compatible to the drive or of poor quality.

(devWriteError_Generic) Error flushing device cache while closing TRACK. Write Error - Generic. -0x030C00

(I have used these CDs before, most recently was about a week ago, and it worked fine at that time)I would certainly try another brand of media...borrow a blank CD from someone to test...but frankly it sounds like the burner is going South.
New dual-layer burners are about 35 Bucks shipped from newegg.com if your in the States.

Solve : no audio device?

Answer»

My daughter had her computer (Sony Vaio) reimaged by the tech department at her college. Now she doesn't have any audio. When we go to the control panel it reads no audio device. The operating system is Windows XP.

Can anyone help?

THANKS!A Sony Vaio is a laptop right?

The audiocard drivers should be on a CD you got with it. Yes it is a laptop and we can't find the cd's. That's because they should have been KEPT with all the other DOCUMENTS related to the laptop for cases just like these...

Well, log onto the Sony Vaio website (Vaio.eu) and go to 'support'.

If you're based OUTSIDE the EU, you PROBABLY have to go through sony.com

Of course it should have been kept with all the documents with this laptop but it wasn't and so that is why I'm trying to get help.

Thanks for your suggestion.Well, did you find it?

Solve : graphic card driver...and bkue screen of death?

Answer»

Something wrong here.
Try repair installation: http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htmHave you tried REBOOTING in Safe Mode? If not, try that (jam on the F8 key when your computer is starting, then select "Safe Mode"), then ROLL back your video DRIVER:

Start -> Control PANEL -> System -> Device Manager (upper-left hand corner).

Display Adapters -> whatever the name of your video card is (double-click) -> Driver tab -> Roll back driver -> reboot.

Solve : Graphics Card Problem/Drivers? Garbeled Screen, black screen Nvidia GeForce 5200?

Answer»

Hi, I hope someone might be able to help me I have a Dell DImension 8300. THe graphics card that came with the system was the Nvidia geforce 5200. A few days ago my screen started going weird, garbled, turning black, locking up system etc. Went through Dell **** support, was told my graphics card was bad. Ordered a new one, and while waiting, tried uninstalling Nvidia drivers and downloaded most current drivers. Did not work, same issues, probably worse. New card came (ATI ATLANTIS RADEON 9000 128MB) Followed directions, uninstalled drivers for old card, replaced card, but now my monitor would not work at all, yellow light, no video input. Reinstalled the old card, and reinstalled drivers, same problem as before. THe only way I can get the old card to work is to totally uninstall all drivers for the card, and of course, my display is a little wonky. Any ideas what the REASON could be that the new Radion card will not work? Or why the Nvidia drivers are creating problems, even though updated? When I did call Dell back, they told me I needed a new motherboard. I don't think that is the case?.Do both cards use same slot?well yes, I removed the Nvidia card, and installed the new one in the same slot. But my monitor would not come on. Has POWER, but green lights turn yellow when I try to boot. So I removeed the new card and reinstalled the old Nvidia card, but it goes crazy with the Nvidia drivers. Running now without the drivers, hence I cannot change any settings as resolution, or screen goes crazy again. If I try to reinstall the Nvidia drivers same thing happens, screen goes crazy. I just downloaded another driver 91.31 from Nvidea, but at this point I am terrified to try it. Maybe that slot has a problem. Do you have another one available?no I don't think so, there is an empty slot next to it, but it does not look like it would fit the card. I don't think the slot is the problem, I believe it is a driver issue, though why the new card does not work I do not know....maybe it came damaged? I am at a total loss here, as I ahve tried everything I dare to tryIn that case, I'd try your new card in another computer. Bad devices, just out-of-the-box, happen.
If the card checks out OK, Dell people may be right.
well problem is that the only other computer I have is my work laptop, so that will not work. I am wondering if I am doing the right thing when I uninstall my Nvidia drivers using the add/remove programs, since when I reboot, though it is running without the drivers, they are still in the add/remove program files. Very frustratingThat shouldn't matter, because most new video cards while installing will overwrite any existing video drivers.I guess I can try to install the drivers I just downloaded, but I am terrified. Its hard to uninstall them when you have a few seconds of screen to uninstall if the screen goes weird again. Its literally catching a clear screen between blackouts and lockup. Quote

Its hard to uninstall them when you have a few seconds of screen to uninstall if the screen goes weird again.
Do it in Safe Mode, where only generic drivers are installed. Not sure how to do that... ???Just boot up IIN safemode, then install those drivers?Yeah.just did that and lost everything again....this is a nightmare. Every time I try to instal those Nvidia drivers my computer goes nuts. In safe moe it told me I had a keyboard failure, was finally able to AGAIN delete teh Nvidia drivers, only reason I can post here at all. Maybe this system is dying and its time to buy an external harddrive, back up 6 yrs worth of files, and start looking at a new computer. But this system has been so steady, no issues. Could SP3 be the problem? How do I revert back to SP2?I guess I am at the point of getting an external hard drive, backing up my stuff, and then thinking of a new system. I did try to revert back to SP2, but did not work.
I am frustrated to no believeI thought, you're trying to install ATI drivers in Safe Mode...
You said something about SP3. Did the problems start after SP3 installation?
What do you mean by you can't remove SP3? Did you go to Add\Remove?

Solve : have sound but sounds odd...?

Answer»

heres the low down..
things were goin fine until i loaded my comp one day and noticed the sound was acting up.. things didnt sound normal. you could still hear sound, just no bass, no vocals...only high pitched sounds on top of which sound like they are in a cave or something.. major echo and scratchy sounding. Also noticed applications that play music(real player fruity loops ect, glitch/pause/stop making music when you click another windo in the background, but if you minimize it then click another application it still makes sound just crackls between?!?!...noticed some lag also so i got the avria virus SCAN since since i heard avg and windows defender arent that great..did a scan and found a trojan in an .mp3 i downloaded..when i looked it up i noticed it read that this trojan targets the sound codecs and audio drivers so i put 2 & 2 together and figured this the cause of the sudden problem with my sound. having done little with codecs, i simply uninstalled the driver and rebooted.. weeeell nothing changed..so i invited a friend over who claimed having worked on "this type of thing befor" and after a few hours of nothing much, he successfully deleted about half my codecs, leaving me with No sound at all...& without a way to get them back (bought my computer at repair place and didnt get a windows boot disk or anything for drivers, and when i asked them yesterday if they had 'em for me, the guy said "we do all that stuff on the internet"...is that wrong does n e 1 know?!?!)
2 days later, tons of searching & i now have my codecs back, and i have the exact same problem with sound i had befor we ventured into the unknown..
does anyone know what could fix it, or if you need more system info i can post. just didnt knwo if anyone might know those signs and have a quick fix

Download, install, and run Belarc advisor.Copy and paste the results in your next post.Post everything down to Virus Protection.

http://www.belarc.com/free_download.htmlhere is everything except my ip address.. if you can make sense out of this and figure something out, i will be truely impressed, and if you need more info or something please ask, been 2 or so weeks this has been going on, and i hate to fork out the 100 bucks if i can fix it myself or with your help

Solve : universal serial bus controllers?

Answer»

Although I am using Win XP to send this question, (and I have a similar problem with XP) I am attempting to resolve this particular problem on my older computer running Win 98 2nd ed. The Problem : USB Root Hub, It has that LITTLE yellow marking next to it in System Properties. ( I'm somewhat confused from all the researching ) but I KNOW it said it was disabled, and then another report said the current driver was insufficient, but when I went to intel to DOWNLOAD a current one, none was available ? This seems to be the only item I can find a problem with, and I'm not even sure it will help me clear up the problem of unclear and hazy PICTURES ( for a poor report of what I see) but I do know that the root hub problem is driving me to drink ON BOTH MACHINES, and needs to be corrected. I wonder if possibly it's something I am doing to CAUSE this problem on BOTH machines ? If you have Windows 98 SE try the nusb33 drivers.

GoHereI went there, it seems very scary ! Too MANY replys about their computers being messed up after using their downloads. But I thank you for your reply.

Solve : testing the system unit?

Hi guys again!!! how would i test the system unit and operating system to ensure its suitability for the home user? thanks Sounds like homework to me.Plug it in and turn it on. Does it work?it would really depend on how the system is going to be used ie
gamming/etc....

ANYWAY there are a list of benchmarking tools at TOMS Hardware Guide as
well as other places on the net...google should FIND most...

Plug it in and turn it on. Does it work?

Quick and to the point. I Approve.

Now it's my turn...

First- you'll want to give the sides of the case a good whack to scare out any cats- they get caught in the fans ya know. Nothing bad happens to the cats, more of a screechy hiss really- but the cat could damage the computer while it struggles.

Speaking of cats, you could easily turn a cat into a makeshift duster. hold them firmly and dust your PCs case. DO NOT USE ANY SOLVENT! THIS WILL DAMAGE YOUR CASE- and probably won't be good for your cat either.

** I stopped here, I WENT on for a few more paragraphs, but it got a little bit morbid, what with cats being put in plastic bags to prevent dust buildup in the case... so I stopped here to prevent flames***Quote from: senz1989 on November 23, 2008, 12:59:25 AM

Good Luck

thanks for the links fgdn17, I'll try those links. and i will let you know how it goes..

about a 1000 of them...it would be nice to know what the audio device is...anyway
you can start here:

http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/SOUND-CARD/OTHER-SOUNDCARDS/Microsoft-UAA-Bus-Driver-for-High-Definition-Audio.shtml

but BEST to identify the device first, then look for the correct driver...IMO

but try these:

4. UAA drivers to enable the audio hardware for Windows XP.
Note: It is strongly recomended to install ths driver before you install the audio driver. If you do not install this driver the audio will not work.
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp33501-34000/sp33867.exe

5. Conexant High Definition Audio Driver for Windows XP -AMD.
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp34001-34500/sp34386.exe

thanks for the help. its now working properly...

Solve : Pictures?

Answer»

Hi I reinstalled windows Xp on my dell COMPUTER and before I did so I had a half a dozen memorex cd-r cd's with pictures on them and they worked fine. Now I tried one and it says it is blank and nothing comes up and I am possitive there were pics on this cd I have used it alot. What could be wrong, did I not install a specific thing? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. THANK youThey may not have been finalised when you BURNED them...
DLoad the FREE trial version of ISOBuster and see if it sees the data.
If it does it NEEDS to be extracted off the CD's to your HDD and re-burned to CD.

Solve : My cmputer issues.?

Answer»

Old computer died so I decided it was time to upgrade. Also decided to custom build my computer from base parts. Since then there have sadly been some minor problems that I am concerned are indications of a larger problem that will get worse if I ignore it.

Let's start with my parts:

GeForce 8800 GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card

GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3R LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard

Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD6400AAKS 640GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive

G.SKILL 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-6400CL6D-8GBMQ

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz LGA 775 Quad-Core Processor Model BX80562Q6600

Thermaltake Purepower W0100RU 500W ATX 12V 2.0 Power Supply

ABS Aplus ABS-CS-EL Diablo Black 0.8mm SECC ATX Full Tower Computer Case

HLDS 48x 24x 48x 16x CDRW/DVD Combo Drive R2 (this could be the source of the problem but the fact that it runs at all makes me think it's RELATED to ones and zeros)

Diamond Audio 2.0 Analog Speakers (also recycled from the previous computer)

Logitech headset

HANNspree HF199H monitor

The hard drive may need to be increased in size but messing with the drivers has improved the issue since it was built. Plays my games with RELATIVELY little problems. I was hoping that someone here could suggest bios or driver updates or fixes that I may be able to try.Can you specify what the problems are?Oh my god. I spent so much time making sure I got the hardware down and reminding myself to post the problems that I FORGOT to post the problems. Stupid linear progression of time.

When playing an audio CD or accessing the internet the process becomes "choppy" or slow. CD's will sound as though they are skipping as well as audio files from the internet. The internet itself will suddenly slow down as though processing a suddenly large amount of data. Also video graphics associated with these two medias often mirror the problem, freezing until the computer finishes moving things along.

And yet another problem comes with my microphone. The computer says that it is detected and yet when using the hardware testing wizard I cannot hear the playback. If am communicating to people online they tell me that I sound quiet and distant. I have checked all audio and microphone options including the switch on the headphones itself and I am convinced that nothing is muted.

I've searched gigabyte, realtek, and microsoft for updates that may assist the problem but it still persists. I have communicated with gigabyte and realtek but have received no real assistance other than an offer to refund my money from gigabyte.

I've tried tweaking performance a little nad ended up restoring defaults (I as lucky to do so as for a time my computer kept rebooting upon startup).

I really hope that I won't be without a computer for two to seven weeks.Let's see...8 GB of RAM, so I'm assuming 64-bit Vista.

Do you have Service Pack 1 installed?

What are you communicating online to people through? Ventrilo? Yahoo? MSN? Skype? Have you check those programs' settings? Are you running them as an Administrator (User Account Control annoys the crap out of Ventrilo).

If you go to Task Manager (CTRL+ALT+DELETE, select it), is something hogging a large amount of CPU or (unlikely as it may be) all your RAM?

Would you be able to try out another optical drive to eliminate that as a potential problem?

Also, it may be a longshot, but would you be able to borrow a sound card to try out? If that works, but your onboard doesn't, that definitely indicates a problem with the onboard sound or its drivers.

As for your computer rebooting on startup, do this:
Start -> Control Panel -> classic view -> System -> Advanced System Settings -> Settings (under "Startup and Recovery") -> uncheck "Automatically restart". Next time it wants to "restart," it'll actually give you a Blue Screen of Death. Write down EVERYTHING on it and post it here.

Finally, we may also want to consider the fact that your power supply only has two +12V rails: one 14A and the other 15A. Are you on the cusp of needing something bigger? Then again, my build is similar to yours with 8 GB of RAM, Q6600, Vista x64, MSI P6N-SLI FI motherboard, 8800GT video, Mad Dog DVD burner, three 640 GB hard drives and one 500 GB hard drive, and all that is running on an Antec 550W power supply with three 17A +12V rails...

Already took care of the rebooting by restoring default settings. Enabled some power management thing and then disabled it when I managed to get my computer up to the bios again. I am not using Vista and don't believe that it is in fact an upgrade over XP (which I am using) with all of the problems that I have heard about it. As for the optical drive ti will be a couple months before I can get one with the holiday season. Same goes for sound card. As for power management, nothing hogging that much memory is running.having an outdated computer like that is kind of hard to manage, its important that you get good quality products to add on to your computer for the best
XP isnt a bad operating system unless you dont have the hardware designed for that type of program

The reason I assumed 64-bit Vista (x64 = 64-bit) is because you have EIGHT GIGS OF RAM.

Are you using 64-bit XP? If not, then that might be part of the problem. 32-bit XP can only see 4 GB of RAM minus some, depending on what hardware you have (somewhere about 3-3.5 GB is common).

64-bit XP and 64-bit Vista will see all 8 GB of your RAM.

However, 64-bit XP has very limited support (available by OEM or volume licensing only) and drivers are limited. As for 64-bit Vista, it only accepts signed drivers without booting into unsigned driver mode. Also, if manufacturers want to have their drivers signed, sealed, and approved by Microsoft, they have to have 32-bit and 64-bit VERSIONS of their driver. In other words, forced 64-bit support for Vista. A Very Good Thing.

My usual recommendation for people that build their own PCs is:

2 GB of RAM or less = stick with XP for now.
3-4 GB of RAM = toss-up. Vista runs just fine with that amount of RAM, as does XP. Stick with 32-bit.
> 4 GB of RAM = 64-bit Vista, unless you REALLY want to deal with 64-bit XP...

Because it can't. Your operating system can't see all your RAM...

Solve : hp pavilion laptop wireless button doesnt light & has not wireless?

Answer»

I am working on a my friend's hp pavilion, maybe 6 years old. xp professional. It should have wireless, but there is not wireless in network connections. I thought at first wireless button had been pushed by mistake, but when I push it ...no light comes on...nothing. I am trying to find out if my friend has restore discs. Someone told me to do a hard reset, but I dont see how that would HELP anything. The laptop works perfectly except for that. I installed a wireless card (you plug in), installed the drivers for that and wireless WORKED fine. Do you think a restore back to original config would help. I really didnt want to do that especially if he has no discs. Even if it has it on a partition...it seems to me a lot could go wrong. (no date or programs are important at this point). I just thought the card has gone bad or lost the drivers. THANK you for any help you can give me.BTW I also installed drivers for the laptops internal wireless card and it did nothing. If you re-install the MBoard drivers for the laptop it won't hurt anything.
These include the wireless ethernet drivers.
You might want to disconnect the wireless card for this step.
Then travel to Device Manager and see if the laptop wireless chipset shows healthy ( no Yellow !!'s )

If so try to reconnect.

Wiping a machine out to try and fix this is a bit drastic...especially if he has no CD's.thank you. i am going to do that now. i'll let u know. thanks for taking your time!I have a stupid question I went to http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=228&lc=en&dlc=&cc=us&product=353507 and downloaded and installed all the "Driver-Network" drivers. Which one would be the motherboard drivers?please forgive me...i solved the problem. i downloaded drivers for the hp pav ze5300 because that is what was on the laptop. i just happened to NOTICE a half peeled off label saying ze5385us !!! it has the driver for the wirless card!!! I guess the 5300 didnt have wireless! so SIMPLE. Thank you for your help.Good work.
One thing to keep in mind...no matter what laptop it is the manuf. site is the ONLY site you should try drivers from.Thank you! Good advice because I was a little desperate and considered downloading from another site. I WON'T.

Solve : system won't recognize new phone via usb?

Answer»

I run XP Pro on an older laptop. I bought a new LG cell with music player. Stupidly, I attached the DEVICE before installing the accompanying USB driver. The wizard launched but did not find the driver on the cd. Then I installed the driver from the cd. Now, the system will not recognize the device when connected. After reading the documentation, I SEE that it warned me to not do what I did. Can I fix this?Find the phone in Device Manager and right clik it and select remove/uninstall.
Travel to Add/Remove Programs and uninstall the phone software......Re-boot a few times.
Leaving the phone disconnected re-boot and install the software...it will prompt you for when to plug the phone in.Tried your suggestion. phone is recognized as a modem but not as a storage device so I can't access it to TRANSFER music/vids etc. Phone is an LG ENV2.Quote from: Tapper58 on November 30, 2008, 11:27:13 PM

Solve : Dvd drives not working.........help please!!!?

Answer»

My dvd drives were working last nite, but now i cant access them in the start menu under computer. When i pull up properties, it tells me that Windows cannot load the device DRIVER for the software and it says code 39. What can I do to fix this? My drives have been working fine until just the other dayFind them in Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager...
Right click each one and select uninstall/remove.
Windows will re-install them automatically on re-boot...

What happened prior to this and what burning apps are you running ? ?

Also if the machine has been moved recently you may want to remove a side panel and check the cabling...but if you are GETTING an error message this is probably not a factor. If patio's advice won't help...

Try one of these:
1. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060
or...
2. Download, and run Restore Missing CD Drive patch
Double click on downloaded file, and allow registry merge.
or...
3. Go to Device Manager, click a "+" sign next to IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers.
You'll see TWO items:
- ATA Channel0 (or Primary Channel)
- ATA Channel1 (or Secondary Channel)
Right click on each of them, and click Uninstall. Confirm.
Restart Windows. They'll be automatically reinstalled.i tried to unplug them and reboot, but when windows started it said the device drivers failed to load and its showing the error code 39. It was working fine last nite and I didnt do anything DIFFERENT, it just stopped working on me. I tried a system restore and it worked but then the drives disappeared again from the computer menu. Do you know what could be causing it? what do I need to do to fix it? thanksDid you read patio's, and mine replies?yes, i tried to uninstall the drivers and reboot but that didnt work, is it safe to run the "restore missing cd drive patch" link?Does this forum look like "MALWARE Planters Ultimate"?no sorry, k what do i do after i open the files, they are in a compressed folderDouble click on cdgone.zip to unzip it.
Right click on cdgone.reg, click Merge.
Accept registry merge.
