Solve : DirectX question?

Answer»

hi all, im new here an seeking help from anyone

im tryin to get my wifes computer running to play a game called Rappelz, i get it installed, and everything good to go, once i click "start" it gives an error "render create device error" ive spoke with tech on their end and they told me to update my driver, which is up to date, they also told me to check my resolution and to make both windows and rappelz 60Hz which i also did.

so i opened up DXdiag to check an compare it to my pc (which runs rappelz perfectly) and everything is the same except for DirectX

it shows up as:
DirectDraw Acceleration
Direct3D Acceleration
AGP Texture Acceleration

all 3 are "not available" where as mine say "Enabled"

did she INSTALL DirectX incorrectly? or could this problem be something else?
could someone give me a hand fixing this, any info will help me greatly thankswhat video adapter is installed on their computer?Quote from: BC_Programmer on December 07, 2008, 05:00:38 PM

what video adapter is installed on their computer?

Card name: Intel(R) 82945G Express Chipset Family

if this isnt it lemme knowGet directX from here and see if you can it would help fix the problem.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3&displaylang=en

Doing this would get the LATEST version of DirectX compatible to your system.

And get the latest drivers for your adapter.yes- from the sounds of it the video drivers aren't properly installed, or their OpenGL and DirectX capabilities have been disabled.Quote from: BC_Programmer on December 07, 2008, 06:45:09 PM
yes- from the sounds of it the video drivers aren't properly installed, or their OpenGL and DirectX capabilities have been disabled.

BC_Programmer: Yes indeed. Hence my suggestion up there

TiMes: let us know how it goes. I'd have thought the program you are attempting to run would tell you more of what's wrong but I guess not ill give it a try tomorrow morning when i get up its too late to do it now ill post here once i FIND out for you guys thanks for all the helpran the file but no change, still all 3 say not available and game still gets same error i think ive done just about everything i can to fix this problem im at the point where i wanna pull out my hair xD

im tryin to figure out how to see if i have my video correctly installed, since everyone im talkin to says that seems to be the problem, ive gone to the intel main page an did some test, using her pc of course, and it gives all the info about her pc and says that everything is installed correctly not sure if this will help but this is the display info from my wifes pc maybe it will give you guys a better understanding of what im DEALING with here:

*** as you can see the bottom 7 are what i believe is the problem ***

also other online games seem to work such as starcraft, and diablo2 which use directX

An onboard Intel graphics adapter is crap. You need a real card.

Also, I noticed this on your DXDIAG output:

That usually means something disabled it. NetMeeting is the most likely culprit. Disable that and you'll get your video RAM back.Quote from: killerb255 on December 13, 2008, 07:50:04 PM

Solve : No audio since I formatted?

Answer»

HP pavilion 7950

Had many errors, (getting frustrated so I just formatted.) Why on the XP it does not include all necessary drivers to take care of the audio ALSO.?

I downloaded "everest home addition" which I will add on options. This is not a new problem as everytime I format the sound never works but I try to stick with it!! Anyway I think it is "Creative Audigy LS"

Solve : Strange Audio Driver Issue?

Answer»

People install sounds cards for two reasons:
1. On-board sound stopped working.
2. They want better sound, than provided by on-board.I think I installed the driver wrong...

I didn't uninstall the previous one first...

Oh and i searched and I'm thinking if this site might WORK...

http://www.updrivers.com/drivers/Sound_Card/Creative/Sound_Blaster_Live_Value-Windows_XP_2000/20030.html

it doesn't seem like a good resource for drivers though...

The above link won't do anything, but ask you for money.hi all

just opened up the CASE and dust was everywhere...

so i CLEANED it with some very cautious vaccuming and using a brush...

I noticed a cord from the sound car was loose but I assumed it didn't matter..

any way i installed an NVIDIA 7800 GTX 512 to replace the 6600 gt and i installed new 2 gb ddr2 RAM...

I put it back together and I go to install the new driver for the video card and I notice some clicking noises... so I go to DIAXDIAG and test the sound, and I don't believe it but it works!!!

I go and play a music file and ... voila! It works!

So i guess this ISSUE is closed and thankyou all who contributed (Eg. Broni (especially),BC_Programmer,etc.) for your time, efforst and expertise. Sorry for all the confusion...

THankyou all Great news good to hear it's all remedied!

Solve : Defragmentation?

Answer»

When Defragmentation is taking place how are the files REDUCED in SIZE ?They aren't.Please explain what happens.Quote from: Carbon Dudeoxide on December 10, 2008, 09:00:19 AM

Look in your text books.
Quote
Experience: Experienced
Hmmmm....Actually, I think the OP isn't explaining himself/herself clearly.

The actual files are not being reduced in size at all. However, they could be split into multiple pieces and stuck in different parts of the hard drive.

For example, if you just ordered a pizza, sliced it up, and put each slice on a different plate. You still have one pizza, but the slices are in different places instead of in the box itself.

Let's say you ordered SIX pizzas for a party and put each slice on a different plate. You go out for a beer run, but you didn't tell anyone how many pizzas were ordered.

One of your buddies wants to know how many pizzas were ordered. They would have to count each individual slice, know how many slices come with one pizza, and do the math from there. A pain in the ***, isn't it?

File fragmentation is the same thing. Pieces of your files are scattered around the platters of your hard drive. Your computer only shows you the file. If you TRY to access the file, the computer will load the file (and all of its pieces) into RAM. To the end user, it's still just one file of the same size. Behind closed doors, the file's pieces are not in the same place, so it's more of a pain in the *** for your computer to find the pieces (hence, taking longer and stressing the hard drive).

In this case, you're asking the wrong question. It's like the person paying for the pizza asking how many slices of pizza there are. He/she doesn't need to know. He/she just needs to know how many pizzas were ordered so they can pay for it.

In your case, you don't need to know how small the pieces of the file are. All you need to know is that your file is there and that its contents will be there when you access it. You defrag to make life easier for your computer.

How much beer did you get ? ?

Solve : Removal of Old Drivers????

Answer»

Running Vista

Installed a driver disk for an HP printer and horrified at amount of data installed on my PC. Even after UNINSTALLING printer and software, seems PC still has MASSES of HP files, FOLDERS and registry entries.

Can I get rid of it all?

ThanksDid you run add remove programs to remove or use their uninstaller....if so were you prompted on a level to delete the data such as remove all or only remove certain features of a bundle package LIKE a HP all in one printer/fax/scanner.Try Driver Sweeper: http://downloads.guru3d.com/Guru3D---Driver-Sweeper-(Setup)_d1655.html#downloadHP all-in-one printer discs are bloated!

You're BETTER off downloading the BASIC drivers from HP's website.I used the Windows Control Panel to remove the drivers.

.... and yes, thank you, i'm fully aware that HP disks are 'bloated'. That's the reason for this thread

Solve : Desperate situation?

Answer»

First of all, i'm going to speek not so well in ENGLISH, because i'm from lithuania.

I'm here, willing to help me.

I had problem with 2 things.
Frist is USB, second - sound.
USB. Before formating my pc, usb (usb FLASH, usb camera cable, phone usb cable) were working very well. But now, it is dead! Even a device manager didn't show anything familiar with USB? When i plug usb-flash, computer keeps in silent... My computer can't find anything about removable devices... What should i do?

My second problem is sound. When I start my pc, it just loads fine, with sound (XP welcome sound), i can play films, youtube-like movies, anything, and i can hear sounds, but, ater few mins, maybe about ten, it dissapears. Winamp brings up error, classic players brings up error, both saying that something wrong with sound... I have to RESTART my pc to have my sound back on... but only for few mins!

All these problems ocured after format, i have tried reinstaling my motherboard drivers, my sound card drivers, and also, tried to instal an USB drivers... Nothing helped. Maybe you can help me?

First foto displays, no usb controllers, and also shown that is nothing wrong with sound, meanwhile sound is disappeared.

Second foto shows, what kind of error brings dxdiag after sound disappeared

Last foto shows, control panel showing, that i haven't got any sound device....

My PC SPEC:
athlon 64 3000+ 2.0GHZ
1 GB of RAM
GeForce FX 5950Ultra
Realtek AC'97 soundcard inegrated

WIN XP SP2

[Saving space - attachment deleted by admin]when reformatting / reinstalling your system did you hit F6 to install
the USB drivers?? If not you should be able to install them later BUT YOU NEED
the correct drivers for THE CORRECT OS your using.....

download them and burn to a CD and use F6 when installing the OS....

try that...as for the sound issue...Download and run Everest Home.

Save the report as a text file, and attach it in your next post. @fgdn17 when i pressed F6 during instalation i was pleased to insert a floppy disk into A drive, so i haven't got it... Futhermore, I took my pc and bring to the computer specialist, what he did is just formatted and INSTALLED new OS, (win xp sp2) that's all.

heres report:

yes that's the "last resort" solution and cheapest for someone who charges to fix your machine...

you could have done that yourself...anyway glad it's fixed...you don't understand, computer specialist just formatted and installed of, nothing more, but sound and usb still not working... dunno what to do...

in addition to this, my friend asked to look up my computer -> manage -> services and applications -> services for windows audio, and i found that it was 'not started', when i start it, by the time he turning off again... something wrong... when i just set 'restart the service' if it fail to load or stop working.. but i think, that still something wrong... especially with usb,,.. Julencijus- your computer "expert" simply didn't install the drivers, as you said.

drivers for Motherboard USB, Sound and a few others can be found here

although you say you've tried this, which I just noticed. So I don't know how helpful that will be.i have tried this too... installled many versions of usb 1.1, 1.2, 2.0... but still nothing... nothing noticed in driver manager, dead usb flash memories, dead digital camera... dead everything... now I understand how additct I am with USB...Quote from: julencijus on November 30, 2008, 07:48:35 AM

what do you mean? You only have one version...

and there isn't a USB 1.2- so that is likely driver versions.i tried install 2.0... installed - nothing happened, so i tried older versions.. same sh*t... I think there is problem somewehe in the BIOS.. but i'm not experienced much, to do something there...hello again... I got some good news! And for now, with my pc is EVERYTHING ok! At last! thank you for your help. Best REGARDS.

Solve : Ineed help finding a Bios update?

Answer»

I need the latest Bios update for the mother board cb60-bx rev B1

Let me KNOW if you found it from a free download site. Why are you flashing the BIOS ? ?
This has created a lot of expensive paperweights over the years...You can try BIOS AGENT or CPUz. I never recommend a BIOS upgrade
but, this may help.

http://www.download.com/BIOS-Agent/3000-2098_4-10175528.html

http://www.filehippo.com/download_cpuz/A BIOS update is more of an "as needed" consideration.

Examples of when a BIOS upgrade is needed are:
1) NEW CPU that's not supported by the CURRENT BIOS
2) new RAM that's not supported by the current BIOS
3) SERIOUS problems that are specifically related to the BIOS (CPU suddenly "underclocks," RAM timings changed, CMOS settings won't retain (that's usually a CMOS battery problem, but can also be a BIOS problem).

Other that the above, BIOS upgrades shouldn't be applied liberally. One false move and, as Patio said, it can become an expensive paperweight...

Solve : Installing new older dvd with windows xp?

I have installed a sd-608 dvd in my TOWER and windows xp will not recognize it as other than a CD rom. I have instructions on installing a driver in dos mode yet the instructions dont match what happens when I try to boot up in dos. It says run FROMDOS.exe yet I cant get that to be recognized as a COMMAND in safe mode dos.
Please helpXP should not need drivers for an optical drive...
The drive will be REPORTED according to what type of disc was in it last.
My 2 DVD burners will both show as CD drives for example if the last thing i used in them was a music cd.

How is the drive being reported in Device Manager ?
How are the jumpers set and what other drives are on that cable ? ?The computer does recognize the DVD yet it says that it does not have a compatible decoder for windows 10. I have nero installed yet it says it is not an acceptable decoder.Quote from: patio on December 10, 2008, 08:09:46 AM

The computer sees it as a DVD yet it says that there is not a compatible decoder for the system. Thanks for what you showed me so far!! I thought I had to install the drivers for it to work.A decoder sounds like a region blocking thing to me...what type of DVD's are you trying to play ?

WARNING: Most DVD players only allow a fixed amount of region changes and then you are stuck...or maybe codecs issue.
1. Try VLC Player: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ - it has all codecs built-in.
2. Download K-Lite Codec Pack: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Codec_Pack.htm, and see, if it fixes WMP problem.Thank you
The VLC program WORKS to a point.I also installed a program called XP Codec pack and it works the same. It is like the dvd player is too slow. When a movie plays it seems like it is in fast forward, the audio is garbled and the picture looks like a bad satellite pic.
Has anyone seen this before? How MUCH RAM in the machine ? ?
How much free space on the hard drive ? ?
If both those are adequate you may have a failing drive...
To test this swap it into another machine and see if it does the same thing...
If so replace it.

Does my driver have the right capabilities?

I bought this game on sale for only $10 (new still in packaging) . I just wanted a driving game for my boys and I too play

unfortunately- your built-in Intel graphics don't meet the requirements.

On the bright side, you can easily find and purchase an appropriate card for your motherboard that will work with the game; couldn't say wether you would need an AGP or PCI-Express card at a glance, though.

Sorry to be the purveyor of bad news...No problem

how do I find out if I need AGP or PCI-express card?

duh- sorry, it says it right in the log

(3 PCI, 1 PCI-E x16, 4 DDR2 DIMM, Audio, LAN, IEEE-1394)

looks like 16-lane PCI-express.

these are fairly easy to find, their the main video interface used nowadays.

Solve : copying a homemade dvd to another dvd?

Answer»

Hi i am trying to copy a dvd to another dvd. but i am having TROUBLE doing that. I have two drives a cd/dvd drive and a cd/dvd burner drive. But in my "my computer" the cd/dvd burner shows up as a cd drive making it so that when i try to copy the homemade dvd to the blank dvd it keeps saying please insert a blank cd. Please help me fix my problem thank you. It's actually against our forum rules to put up how to rip or copy DVD's so I can't really help you there.

If these are homemade DVDs, can't you burn another CD using the source?QUOTE from: s_y_i_r_e_e_z_y on December 11, 2008, 05:23:33 PM

Solve : Deleted dvd/cd rom drive?

Answer»

I'm using windows vista on a T3612 emachine. I noticed my e drive, which is the dvd/cd rom drive was missing. Is there a way to reinstall it or download something that could fix it? Also, what could cause it to just delete/disappear? I think I had something like a virus (not a virus, I think they are called trojans or malware. I'm completely computer illiterate, sorry.) because I used a few programs to "clean out" the comp when it was running slow and a bunch of things came up that needed to be deleted. Hope this makes sense, thanks in advance for anyone who helps.A trojan is a virus. It's possible that one corrupted your driver. Of course, we have no idea what these "clean up" programs are that you used, so there's no telling what might've happened. In any case, if you are still having virus issues, feel free to head over to our Malware section of the forum for help.

As for your optical drive...I'm not super familiar with Vista (spawn of the devil), but I believe you can access the Device Manager by going to Start > Control PANEL > System and Maintenance > Device Manager. Once there, are you able to find your CD/DVD drive? Are there question marks or exclamation points? If you find either of these next to your CD/DVD drive, right click on the drive (in Device Manager), and then choose to uninstall. After uninstalling, restart your computer and it should be reinstalled automatically.I went to device manager and looked under disk drives, there is only one drive there and I don't know what I would look at to identify which drive it is. Its says a bunch of numbers and letters then ATA Device. It also says the device is working properly, should I still uninstall this and restart the computer?
I'm sorry I FORGOT to mention which programs I use. They are TREND Micro Anti-virus, which came pre installed on the computer, and Malwarebytes-Anti Malware.
Thanks for your help.Quote from: Ash2184 on December 11, 2008, 06:13:23 AM

Solve : NVIDIA?

Answer»

Hi!
Newbie here....
I was just wondering if I really need NVIDIA on my PC. I'm running Windows XP Pro 2003. 5.1.2600 Service PACK 2 Build 2600.
I get that annoying balloon message that say's "SLI multi-GPU rendering has been disabled..." blah, blah, blah.
I have got to stop dowloading things that I think I need on this pc.
I'm a "junior-senior citizen", so maybe that explains why I do these things.
Any input would be appreciated & if you need more info on the system, let me know.
Thanks,
nuzzum what video card do you have?Hi ,
Sorry 'bout that.
I was LOOKING at my invoice & it says I have the 2005 version!
The only thing I see that looks like it would be a video card says all on one line, "256MB PCI Express x 16 (DVI/VGA/TV-out) nVidia GeForce 6800"

Does that help?

The only thing that's "weird" is for "Magic ISO Host Controller"... there's a yellow triangle with an ! in it. all of a sudden my two cd disk won't write. i can read what i wrote last week. drive c and f are listed in my computer, but when i try to open them with a BLANK disk in, it says "drive not accessible". when i right CLICK on a file to write it does not give me the option to send to either of my drives. i used NERO to make a data cd and when it was done, i could not access the FILES on it. it says the same thing "drive not accessibel" i have tried several of the blank disk and it is from the same sony disks that i have been using.
any help would be greatly appreciated.
jjonPlease start here...

What information should I add when submitting a question?1. Right-Click on the drive with the problem.

Choose: Properties

Choose:Recording

then check the "Enable CD Recording On This Drive"

2. If that don't work try Guided help from Microsoft at the below link.
Scroll down to'Download Guided Help' download and run the 127kb file.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060
Thanks, that worked on drive D. Drive E doesn't have the record tab in properties. But it is a dvd-cdrw. Of course that is an older one. I will replace it with another one I have here. I thought that it might be a bad cable inside and I was going to try that next. I still will look and see if they are both on the same cable or SEPARATE ones.
Thanks again,
JjonStreet1, oh maybe that drive E isn't a writer. I guess I have always written to drive D. I guess I'm getting old.
I still think it is time to put the dvd recorder one in.
Thanks.

Hi

I used belarc advisor to list the componants but have spent days looking for the missing drives. they are not available on HP or Compaq's web page, and they did not reply to a post I sent them. The texas INSTRUMENTS site was of little help.
I am currently TRAVELLING overseas so don't have any driver disks with me. I thought I was ok with norton Ghost but the backup failed (great)
I have a AMD turion 64 mobile
ATI radon xpress 200m graphics
windows xp sp3

I am missing bus adapters
texas instruments PCIxx21/515 cardbus controller
ati radeon xpress 200m [display adapter]
texas instruments PCIxx21 intergrated flash media controller

THANKS for the help please be patient with my replies as I am in the African bush with little chance of internet over the next week.

Try here: http://www.xpvistaworld.com/texas_instruments_pcixx21_integrated_flashmedia_controller_396.htmThanks. that worked. Now i will attempt to find the other driver on the same site. You have saved my mind (others may disagree)
Cool I downloaded the Texas Instruments PCIxx21/515 Cardbus Controller driver
from the HP site but the computer is not reconising that it has been installed. Is this common or a problem with the driver. It seems the other sites offering the driver link to the Texas Instruments site which has taken the driver off the site.I can't find anything on the net about this one.i would recommend calling TI, their CONTACT us page is: http://focus.ti.com/general/docs/contact.tsp?DCMP=TIFooterTracking&HQS=Other+OT+footer_contact

i would look for a customer service, explain that you need drivers for Texas Instruments PCIxx21/515 Cardbus Controller driver and they cant be found on the site. maybe they have a hidden link somewhere, or they can send you a disk. Thanks guys we are on a winner now.

Solve : Problems after formatting?

All RIGHT. OK, I did everything according to what you have said, I tried to REINSTALL the driver and everything, but at the end COMES up a window saying: Cannot install this hardware, because the wizard cannot find the necessary software. I followed the 15 step 'manual' you advised, but I do not know where the problem is now. After another try, I got a window saying I need to update plug and paly driver? What is the message and what did you do to GET it? As the 'manual' says, I OPENED the folder you downloaded for me (thanks) and I followed it. I tried to reinstall the driver from WIn XP folder. But at the end comes up a window saying: Cannot install this hardware, because the wizard cannot find the necessary software. Well, to be honest, I have been drained out of ideas..........
I know, it is a bit .... but if anyone has got any idea, please share it with me (us).

1. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060

2. http://aumha.org/downloads/cdgone.zip

3. Go to Device Manager, click a "+" sign next to IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers.
You'll see two items:
- ATA Channel0 (or Primary Channel)
- ATA Channel1 (or Secondary Channel)
Right click on each of them, and click Uninstal. Confirm.
Restart Windows. They'll be automatically reinstalled.I tried reinstalling the drives, but it still doesn't work. The DVD doesn't even start spinning. I'm pretty sure it's not the hardware, because both drives do the same thing. Also, both of them used to work just fine, and I haven't DONE anything weird to my computer.Quote from: Carbon Dudeoxide on July 22, 2008, 07:22:24 PM

It may be also good idea to try those drives in another computer.Have you tried disconnecting both those drives physically and re-connecting them ? ?

Solve : Odd audio issue?

Answer»

I'm experiencing issues with the soundcard in my Dell Inspiron 1720, its producing random distortions in all audio played, even in games, which results in some rather severe chopping. I thought it was the drivers, but I pulled the newest ones from the Dell website, and I still have the same issue. I can't seem too find anything on this issue. I also tried updating the chipset driver, no luck there fixing it either. This issue happens with the internal speakers, or with ANYTHING that I plug into the audio output jack on the laptop. At first I thought the chopping was video related, but while I was downloading the LATEST drivers, I played some music. I noticed the music was distorting too, so the issue seems too be related to the sound card or bus, most likely caused by a faulty driver, however, I have no EVIDENCE or resources too find out if this is the case, so if you could help me find a solution, I'd be grateful.

I am running Windows XP SP2 instead of the Vista Home PREMIUM that came with this machine, Vista was a nightmare, it idled at 52% RAM usage with everything turned off, and I have two gigs of RAM! That's like, idling Crysis while running windows.

The soundcard is a SigmaTel STAC9205X and the North bridge is the Intel Crestine PM965, South bridge is the Intel 82801HBM ICH8M.
I know this sounds basic but - have to wonder if card itself is faulty.

Whether in main chip or a discrete component - no easy way to tell .... could even be a resistor gone high or a small tantalum cap' that has gone leaky.

(Another Vista ditcher here!! )Yeah, I was thinking that. Heat of constant gaming may have killed it. CPU gets up between 154F to 180F (Depending on the game or app running) with the fan custom controlled with a third party app. And when the CPU heats up, everything heats up. Especially the left side of my keyboard, in the winter while I'm gaming, it feels like a heated keyboard. Nice feature that dell didn't intend. The P4 Prescott based laptops would LITERALLY make the keyboard to hot to comfortably use if you gamed though.

I'll probably just call dell, they'll send someone, and he'll fix it in my house the same way they had to replace the daughter board recently that the sound output/mic input ports are on. I didn't buy this thing because I can't build a computer, I bought it because I'm tired of fixing my own.

I think the soundcard is integrated into the motherboard though, almost certain it is, in which case, I'm not entirely sure if they will do an in home repair. I only paid $200 for the two year warrenty, which, is amazingly cheap, considering that covers everything including in home service.

And about vista, the whole "Windows by Tubba-Ware" look that aero gave ate too much memory and was LESS appealing than "Windows by Fisher Price". I run Royal NOIR though, leaked theme for XP that looks decent. I mean come on, 52% of RAM gone too the OS when I'm just idling with NOTHING in vista running. If I actually turned on the sidebar and crap, it'd eat about 78% of my RAM. XP eats about 17% with everything I need running in it.Looks like I didn't roll back the driver far enough. I found a driver still in the root of my C: drive from when I re-formatted and re-installed windows back in June. Thanks anyway though, it seems the newer drivers just suck.

The sad thing is, this driver is for a dell Inspiron 15XX series notebook. If anyone mentions this again, I guess I'll have too email them the driver I've got, don't got a clue where I got it off of dells site.

Solve : Unable to read burn DVD disc?

After burning a dvd, data FORMAT, and reinserting the disc, I'm UNABLE to read my burn dvd. Aparently, when I click on the dvd-rom icon, my windows explorer hangs. My dvd writer is 16X Sony DRU 710A. I tried it out on 3 different bands of dvd, TDK 8X , Sony 16X and Philips 8X. It all didn't work. I'm pretty pissed by the ridiculous idea of not being able to open the burn disc. I even tried burning it on 2 different softwares, nero and dvd decryter. SERIOUSLY need help!!

This the error i got from burning through dvd decrypter. Forgot to add: I have updated it to the latest firmware. I'm running of windows XP SP2. It was working LIKE this for quite a long time, bloody pissed. Are you sure multi-session is turned off in the burner SOFTWARE ? ?

If it isn't the burn is not finalised and the DVD will show blank.

DLoad and install ISOBuster and report what it shows on those DVD's....Did that drive EVER work correctly? If yes, than what has changed? If no, then GET it replaced.

Please advise if all of this software is a complete legit copy on a shiny CD with the manufacturer's name on it or "versions".

Answer»

Hi i will try to explain this best as possible. I have a dell deminsion 2400 that had a motherboard with only pci slots. And i want to add a graphics card. Well we all know those are slim pickings in pci without some $$. So a friend and i got a new motherboard (asrock p4vm890 - fsb800 ddr400) so that i could use a pcie gcard. The p4 is a 478 chipset, and it has two 512 sticks of pc3200. Once we installed the mboard and the gcard ( GEFORCE 7300 gt 256mb) we knew we might have to run the dell rescue disk to even get into windows. ( windows xp home with latest patch). Well now here i am and i cannot use diagnostics because the motherboard is not recognized as dell original hardware. So will not work. I WOULD like to keep from formatting my harddrive if at all possible. is there anyway possible to install my drivers onto my harddrive and make it work. Maybe thru dos?

Any help would be well appreciated.

RayDell software is keyed to only be used on Dell machines. The license is likewise tied to the machine (in this case the motherboard) so that it cannot also be used on a different hardware configuration without Microsoft's approval (per the OEM license). In addition all support for the software must be done through the OEM (Dell), not Microsoft. Frankly I am surprised that motherboard fit in there to start with.so its probably format time huh..Quote from: AntaliveDM on April 27, 2007, 07:00:05 PM

Yeah, if you're very lucky and you went to church last Sunday.
Sorry dude, but this was a very bad idea to begin with.
Dell crap is so proprietary it's tough to try to mix in mainstream components.

I'm surprised that you got the power supply and front panel connections to work.

Unless you just put this thing back the way you found it, you will probably have to install an OEM or retail XP to get it to work.
And that's more money....
IOW, it will no longer be a Dell and IOW, you should have just built a new box.

Let us know how it goes.well i had to lengthen the front panel wires and take the asrock board wire diaghram and match the power button wires, HdD activity light and power light. ANd with a little time it worked. BUT im going to take my old hd and put another one in, put windows on it. Then copy my files off the old one. then i should be ok. YOu are right though i really just NEEDED to build off of a new case. But funds wouldn't ALLOW. So when im done i will be satisfied. I Will see you all on cs:s.Well good luck with that plan. Do let us know how it turns out.just love the sarcasium...What's sarcasium ? ?Quote from: patio on April 28, 2007, 11:05:45 AM

The 60's.. When folks were still decent and they carved driving licenses out of stone. Sigh. Heh. well all is well. I got a new maxtor 160gb sata harddrive and installed it and also turned Raid off in the bios, because i probably didn't have the driver for it. So it worked and i installed xp pro on it and have been gaming like crazy with 30 tick on CSS. thanks for the help.

Oh and just copied the old files from old harddrive.

Solve : Raid installed..i think. but windows still cannot detect drives???

Answer»

ok so here is the problem. my pc has been out of commission for a few months now, and i cannot remember what the catalyst to this problem was. however i will tell u about the problem as it is now.
but first my system is as follows:

mobo: gigabyte ga-8knxp
2 gigs ram
2 sata drives 70 gigs ea - connected to SATA0_sb @ SATA1_SB
vid card: radion 9800 xt (will stick my new one in once i get my comp up)
standard cd/dvd-r in IDE 2 (because i read earlier that if in IDE, it can cause clashes w/ raid)

Im just trying to boot up, re-install, what ever just to get my d**n comp back up. I don't care how i get there. just booting as is with not disks or cd's in my comp stops @ "verifying DMI pool" i had this probelm once before and just threw in my systems disk (floppy) and it took care of it and let me boot, but now something has corrupted on it and i get an ERROR. now im letting it to boot from cd (xp cd) and it starts the xp set up. but then hangs saying that it cannot find the drives. so i have now installed a new driver for raid, from Gigabyte and the installation for that went fine. and i figured that this WOULD solve the problem, but once finished it just displays the exact same screen saying that it cannot find any hard disk drives! could i be in the wrong sata ports???

im FUNCTIONALLY retarded when it comes to bios so if thats where the problem is, i cannot detect it.

any help would be greatly apreceated

thanks,

Mike I think I had a similar problem when I was building my (relatively) new computer. The motherboard manufacturer had not bothered to include an invaluable RAID manual with the board, which made it *censored* near impossible to set up until I downloaded said manual. For the on-board nVidia RAID drivers, the manual can likely be found by a google search of:

"nvidia" "raid" FILETYPE:pdf

Hope this gets you started.

-Ji do have the Manuel, however i could still not set up raid even following gigatypes DIRECTIONS. so i have given up and just started to format onto an IDE drive. once that is finished hopefully i can setup my sata's after the fact

MikeIf you are reinstalling just to get it up an running on an IDE drive have you considered removing the SATA's for now ? ?Did you go into the bios and select raid as a boot device?

Solve : IBM laptop CD drive will not run "recovery" disk?

Answer»

I have a 1999 IBM Thinkpad that originally had Windows 98 on it. I reloaded it with Windows 2000 but did not like it due to how slow it make it run. I'm attempting to go back to Win98 by using my IBM Recovery CD that came with the computer. I know it works, because I used it once before with no problem before I loaded Win2000.

Problem: When I boot the laptop with the Recovery disk in the CD ROM drive, it will not grab it and start the "recovery" process. Instead, Win2000 would continue to load as normal. I've done the following below trying to fix this and get the CD to start "recovery."

1. I checked the CD drive, it is working and would run in Windows2000 and also in MS-DOS when selecting files or doing "DIR" commands.

2. I checked the boot sequence in my BIOS and it is set to CD first, floppy second, and hard drive last. I don't have the ability to disable the hard drive, or any item for that matter. I can only change the sequence or order they are accessed.

3. I removed Win2000 by reformatting the drive and partitioning it. So now it is a blank FAT32 drive with no OS on it.

4. I boot the laptop using a Win98 start-up floppy disk and can view the files on the Recovery CD using DIR commands, but when I attempt to run any of them they don't start the process either. The ".exe" commands are the only ones that do anything when I type their name at the E: prompt (CD drive letter), but NONE of them thus far have started the "recovery" process successfully.

I don't know DOS WELL enough to know if I'm not typing a specific command sequence to get it to start "recovering", but I can't figure out why the Recovery CD will not begin as USUAL in the first place. It's not the CD, because I have a backup which won't work either.

I also have a Knoppix and Helix boot CD, and they will not start either, they begin to spin-up, but would allow Win2000 to load as usual, or do nothing after I reformatted the drive.

What can I do? Is there a sequence of DOS commands I can type to have it run every EXE FILE on the CD until something HAPPENS? It appears my Recovery CD and my boot CDs are not starting for some reason, but the CD drive seems perfectly normal/in good working order.

Help, I have a Thinkpad brick/paper-weight! Thanks!Double post, thread locked.

Thanks.

Solve : CD-RW Drive Burned Out or...??

Answer»

Hello. I do not know much at all about computers besides how to turn them on and type, so please do not be harsh with me.

I went to put an AUDIO CD into my CD drive and after some weird noises, it smashed my disc to pieces. After starring in sadness at the loss of my beloved songs, I found out the whole thing does not even work anymore. My DVD drive still works as do my other programs. (I think!) LIKE I said, I do not know much at all concerning computers so my question is if I take this drive to get fixed, will I also lose all my files? Stupid me, I do not have back ups. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. You will need to get your CD drive replaced. It won't be worth repairing it, even if it is possible, which I very much doubt. A plain CD-ROM drive costs about as much as a Big Mac these DAYS, if you can still get them.

You can play audio CDs in your DVD drive did you know that?

Are you planning to remove the drive yourself and get it replaced, (It can't be repaired) or were you planning to take the whole computer to the repair PLACE?

Just replacing a CD drive won't DAMAGE your files, unless the repair people are unbelieveably stupid and trash your whole computer. If you were worried about that you could remove the hard drive and keep it at home.

I am still waiting on OP's to respond.

The oldest post is from late November2006.
Is there still hope?

Maybe we should have like a max waiting time of 2 weeks without OP response (but this only starts from when the first person posts). It's really annoying when people ask for help, but don't see it through. They think that they can just post their problem and WHAMO it's solved. And sometimes it can be, but the poster must realize that all of the pertinent info is required and they are part of the process.I have heard of a mother-in-law screeching, perhaps that accounts for the absence. Solve : Missing USB drivers?

Answer»

I was having trouble installing a printer and was advised to delete all USB controllers, being assured they would reinstall when I rebooted, but they didn't!! Now I can't use the mouse etc. I have searched the WEB for hours and have found no answers. I have a Dell Dimension 2400 with XP Home, and SP2 installed later. I believe they are Intel drivers that i need. I have tried the Windows disk, told it to search online etc but it always says "An error occurred .... The driver installation file is missing a necessary entry. This may be because the INF was written for Windows 95 or later'
Any ideas - I'm getting beyond desperate.

Sally C
New ZealandDo you have any other CD's that came with the computer? I've been working on a 2400 recently and it came with two ResourceCD's that have the necessary drivers. If you don't have the CD's, the majority of the included drivers can be found here...

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/devices.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&SystemID=DIM_PNT_P4_CEL_2400&os=WW1&osl=EN

The Intel driver can be found under Chipset. Is it only USB devices that aren't working? Does a PS2 mouse work alright in that computer? If so, right-click on My Computer, go to Properties, click on the Hardware tab, and click on Device Manager. Anything with missing drivers should be marked with a yellow hazard sign and/or question mark. Try installing the corresponding drivers from the Dell site and post back with any problems or results. Thanks - I found the CD and it has a chipset installation utility which I installed but it didn't help. I then installed the one off the Dell website but still no luck. There was nothing like a USB driver so I hope that was the right file. I also got a bunch of USB drivers from Driverguide but they didn't do it.
I don't have a PS2 mouse but I can navigate into Device Manager with the kb. The USB controllers all have yellow warning signs except the USB2 which I somehow got working along the way.
Just had another look in device manager and I now have a yellow ! under system devices for the Intel SMBus controller. Trying to fix it produces the same error message about INF files. But - I have now managed to get back all the USB controllers, but they don't work, so I guess this Bus Controller is the key. Now where do I get that? I ran a PROGRAM called infinst_autol.exe from Intel but it doesn't seem to do it.

Sally CWell, it looks like we're on the right track...hopefully. Ha. Try this fix from Intel and see if it helps...

http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/sb/cs-013541.htmA Dell should only use (and require) drivers from the Dell site. No exceptions.

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/devices.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&SystemID=DIM_PNT_P4_CEL_2400&os=WW1&osl=ENThanks EVERYONE. After trying everything I've decided to reinstall Windows - been meaning to do it for a while and this has pushed me into it.
I may well be back for more help! CONGRATULATIONS on your fresh install of Windows ! !

Sometimes we avoid it but doesn't everything run so much better ? ?

Yes, you're right and it actually was quite easy. All done in a morning. And it is much faster.A good format and reinstall solves all Windows problems....for a while. Quote

A good format and reinstall solves all Windows problems....for a while.

Yeah, and then someone decides to use the darn thing and it all goes to *censored*. Ha.Praise be to reinstall, but all may not be fixed is XP SP 3 on the horizon!HuH ?

Solve : Pressure Sensitivity Drivers Needed for Vista for Manhattan Graphics Tablet?

Answer»

Hey guys, just yesterday I built myself a new computer, and installed Vista HOME Premium on it. I was planning to use this new computer as a graphic design PC, and as such, have installed Photoshop CS3. I plugged in my Manhattan 8" X 6" graphics tablet, and it installed all the movement drivers etc. for it, but when I went to use it in Photoshop, it said there was no "PRESSURE Sensitive" graphics tablet. I KNOW that this tablet works fine on XP, because I've used it on the other computer, but when I put the disc in, and went to install the sensitivity program that is used on XP, it gave me a message along the lines of "Setup.inf" not found. I copied all files and RENAMED "setup.winnt" to "setup.inf" and the program started and supposedly installed, but upon restart, there was no change. I was wondering if anyone knew where to find the drivers for this tablet for windows Vista. I have looked and found nothing so far. THANKS guys.A lot of drivers are still not updated/compatible with Vista.
Hang tight for and sometime will come with an answer to your question .

Solve : BSOD _ Blue Screen Of Death?

Going to need some help on this one guys! See attached Picture.

This happens when I try to execute certain files. Status of my system drivers show everything is okay...( No exclamation points. )

The BSOD first HAPPENED to me this morning after Un-Raring some PHOTOSHOP tutorials I downloaded from the web... a trusted site. Last NIGHT, I also allowed ActiveX plugin to view videos at a popular tube site. This was because I had to use IE to access the site. I am definitely a FIREFOX user and very rarely do I OPEN MSIE. I dont know if this could be the culprit or not.

I dont have any problem opening any program or executable using the Start/Run command.

Would appreciate any help.

Solve : camera files not accepted by computer?

Answer»

i just got this canon dc100 camera with dvd-r discs and my computer is not taking them. I have a dell dimension 4300 win XP using windows MovieMaker.

thanksWhere there any error messages that came up? Have you tried uploading the files onto another computer? Has there been a previous camera that has worked on the same computer you're using now?

Gizmo73Can your CD/DVD-ROM Drive read DVD-R's? Detail is needed.ms_dos_sux ...... Have you read the manual in detail? I came across this which may assist you .
The DC100 takes 3-inch Mini DVD-R/RW discs, and like most of its competitors, can fit about 20 MINUTES of best-quality VIDEO on one. If you choose to initialize a disc for playing in a standalone player, the camcorder writes standard VOB files; if you initialize for future editability, it records in the VRO format. Windows Media Player can play the latter if you rename the file with an MPG extension, however the aspect-ratio information GETS lost--that info is ENCODED into a separate file--so 16:9 video will get squashed into 4:3. Because you must plug into an outlet in order to finalize a disc, the DC100 is probably not the best choice for outdoor vacations.

Solve : Need to Install Ethernet Drivers.?

Answer»

Hi, everyone
Im trying to help my father with his new computer, its an Acer Aspire SA90 with windows Vista Home installed, however we decided to load Windows XP Home as he had major problems with vista. I had to install the Audio drivers from Acer web site thats working ok but i cannot install the Ethernet Drivers so i can connect his cable modem, message comes up saying " Internet Explorer Cannot DISPLAY The Webpage " What else can i do? Thank You.The Ethernet drivers will be on the driver CD that shipped with the machine...usually included with the MBoard drivers...There was no CD in the box at all, I thought when you buy a new computer they at lest give you a System restore CD. Can i get some sort of support CD for this computer if i go to the store where my father bought the computer from? Or will i be wasting my time?It depends on the retailer...some are much better than others.

Don't let them charge you $ $ as what you need if they don't have it would be available at Acer's website.

You MAY have voided your warranty by wiping out the Vista install however...

The other option you have would be to DLoad and install Everest Home on that machine which will tell you what every component is. It will then be EASIER to track down XP drivers for that card...This is what I do and I reconnmend it to you:

If you can use a friend's/libary's/someone's computer (Make sure you have a USB Drive or something to put data onto) download the drivers and then plug the USB/CD/DVD/etc, to your Dad's computer then install it from there, its always good to have 2 COMPUTERS ^_^Good news, i managed to down load the driver from Acer web site. That Everest Home is not a bad program, good INFO. Thanks for your advice.Glad to hear you're fixed up...stop by anytime.
