Solve : CD Rom drive?

Answer»

I have a combo drive and went to copy a CD today, but for no apparent reason I can't OPEN the D drive door and when I did MANAGE to open it manually, the CD COPIER screen shows both drives as D, instead of D and E. All the cables seem to be OK and as far as I can REMEMBER, I haven't CHANGED anything on my computer. I actually don't use it very much. My computer manual is very basic. I see that there is a battery, could it need replacing, if so, why does everything else work? Confused!Has it ever worked? What kind of combo is it?

Hello

I am trying to install a dual boot Xp on this pre installed vista machine. I have already partitioned the drive. I cannot get XP to RECOGNIZE the partitioned drive. I believe an XP sata driver is needed and I cannot seem to locate one. Does anyone know of a source or another way around this.

Thank You
Chris
There should be one on the Driver CD that shipped with that machine...
If not visit ECS's site (your MBoard manuf. ) and grab one there.

By the Way Welcome to CH ! !patio,
Thank You for the welcome. I am by no means a pro at this computer stuff. Actually I am a bit lost with trying to get the proper driver. I guess I am not sure exactly which one to pick. I went to the ecs site here http://www.ecsusa.com/ECSWebSite/Downloads/Category_Download.aspx?MenuID=6&LanID=9 and tried to put in the CORRECT info to choose the right motherboard but I can't seem to do it right. I am selecting motherboard and anything with a reference to AMD but cannot seem to get the model MCP61P to show up. I was CONSIDERING submitting a form for tech support but was sure i wouldn't get an answer for the weekend. http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/dlcenter.asp?Tab=My

Is it possible to contact the motherboard manufacturer to see if they have developed a Vista driver?

Though you shouldn't have to do this, is it in your budget to buy a sound card you can install in the computer that has Vista drivers?First DOWNLOAD here: http://www.techspot.com/drivers/driver/file/category/10/ should do.
Your audio - Intel High Definition Audio (Azalia) based on the Realtek ALC880 codec

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01321559&lc=en&cc=emea_middle_east&dlc=en&product=3548658This site shows that the 3300 is for Vista only so drivers for use with XP may NEVER have been available.

However you might be able to use PCI cards and maybe find drivers for them which will run in XP.

Yes i've read that one,
I think he mentioned this folder:
C:\SWSETUP\Drivers\Audio

There are only drivers for Vista-32bit, vista-64bit in here.
Folders:
Config
MSHDQFE
Vista
Vista64
WDM

The only xp-thing in here is sp1, sp2 and sp4 installation. (in MSHDQFE)

Thank you for your fast reply btw Hello

I've finally found all the drivers
The drivers I was looking for were:
-Motorola SM56 Data Fax Modem (6.12.5.0)
-Intel(R) ICH8 Family SMBus Controller - 283E (8.0.0.1008)
-HP Remote Control HID Device (1.0.0.0)

So no more help is needed, topic can be closed

Good News...nice work !

Solve : ISA Sound card Drivers??

Answer»

I got an isa card from I think the pent 2 machine that was given too me. ui wanted to put it in the 486, not sure what it is but I NEED the driver an didnt think to post it in hardware cause of that.Is it a Sound Blaster brand card?Hope that this helps dont have much isa boards so I tried my best http://i310.photobucket.com/albums/kk403/squall_131/DSC01104.jpghttp://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&ct=res&cd=1&url=http%3A%2F%2Fforums.windrivers.com%2Fcgi-bin%2Fvb%2Farchive%2Findex.php%2Ft-15325.html&ei=63TmSauDI6TjnQf3h8GYBw&usg=AFQjCNG2NcSGLm2dw3tz3RIIpr8G3Gi7ng&sig2=Tq-sWms1H6D2MYQ8-80BLAah wasnt sure if that would have been safice or not.I got it thanks.I had installed it but its acting like that I have windows on there but I dont. Can I use this with DOS? I could use it with a windows machine but not currently.what do you MEAN it's "acting like you have windows on it" ?

most DOS games simply need the BLASTER environment variable to bet set properly.OH? Explain needed.most driver installations will set the BLASTER environment variable for you.

the default, IIRC, is
Code: [Select]SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D3

which tells the programs that they can find the sound card at address 220, IRQ 5, and DMA 3.

You can usually find these out using a tool provided with the sound card drivers.Ah but dont I have to set the irq? Some of the older games will ask for an IRQ setting within the game.
Does sound work when you turn on the computer, or use other applications?I havent REALLY tried figured that I needed a driver and such.

Solve : Drivers for ati graphics cards?

Answer»

I wouldnt mind if they game it away. But it seems to finally be working ok now. Okay, i figured out that everything works but CCC.Catalyst Control Center?

I hate that thing. I always just install the drivers and tell the CCC to go to *censored*. Besides- it never installed properly before because I only had a 2GB HD at the time- the .NET framework wouldn't fit, LOL.Well, when I first installed it.......several re installations ago........it worked fine....but ever since the 9.0 drivers, it has never worked. So I agree, GO TO *censored*, CCC!you can usually change all the same options in the display properties, anyway.exactly, but for the beginners, cc might help them, IF THEY COULD GET THE FRICKEN THING TO INSTALL AND WORK!!!!!!!!!!Ya that would be nice if my graphics card and your ccc decided workI mean, if they ever decided to work, they would be a good company, but their software is unused because it doesn't work on many computers!WOW, this is almost as pathetic as a the PC vs. Mac argument.

I've had ATI cards for years, never had a problem with them. I hadn't had an nVidia card in years (not since GeForce2) until recently with my new build. Since then I've had a ATI Radeon 9550, 9600XT, and one other which I can't remember the model of before those two. They were all great cards at the time. Nothing wrong with the cards or the software for me. The only reason I went back to a GeForce card (GeForce 9600) was because at the time, it was the only card available to me with SM3. But I've been just as happy with ATI as I've been with GeForce.

BC is very right with his post in Reply #21. So very true. All too often when someone doesn't understand something about a particular piece of hardware or software, they just say it sucks. Not because it really does suck, but usually because they've done something wrong because they weren't following the directions and ended up making it not work like it should.

It's like automobile accidents. The leading cause is operator error, not mechanical failure.I also like both ATI and Nvidia. I used to like Trident for my old ISA cards. They were pretty good with their early graphics cards.

My first of the two was a ATI Rage Pro 3d 8MB AGP- it was inside a computer given to me, and I saw no VALID reason to swap in my RELATIVELY crappy PCI Cirrus cards.

Windows 98, once I acquired it, installed and SETUP the drivers without any CD (I later updated them which fixed quite a few issues I was having).

My first few attempts at an upgrade from that card was an Geforce FX (6XXX, I forget the exact number), which BSOD'd in the driver whenever I attempted a 3d-mode. Same story for the All-In-Wonder 9000 I tried. It was actually a issue with the motherboard or AGP chipset, since all the cards work fine on my CURRENT PC.

Solve : How do I move mp3 to flash drive??

Answer»

I am clueless...I just loaded some mp3s from Blubster, and need to move them to my $5 mp3 player that plugs into my usb port.. .I havent a clue how to get them moved....any help is appreciated.Thankssometimes if you use windows media player it will work, not sure but it usually works with differnt mp3 players. Didnt you get software with this?Copy and paste them to your MP3 player.

Does your computer recognize the MP3 player as a storage device? If not...you may have to use the MP3's software to copy that file to it...or synchronize your music folder where all of your MP3's are LOCATED to your MP3 player. Grant you...this may overwrite all the music currently stored on your MP3 player. Before PLUGGING in your MP3 player, open "My Computer". Once you have that open, plug your MP3 player in. Watch My Computer and see if another icon appears. If so, this will be your MP3 player. You should be able to just copy your MP3 files over to it like any other device.I opened my computer...and a new icon DOES pop up...so do i just pick a file off Blubster and do CNTRL C then CNTRL V in the top? Like I said...im clueless...but REALLY do appreciat e the help!...or...

Just drag and drop the file.got it....thanks

Solve : Vista driver for Dell E173FPb monitor...?

Answer»

As the SUBJECT states...

I've found drivers for XP/2000 at Dell...but am hoping to find a Vista driver for the above referenced monitor.

THANKS, in advance...Just had a search around for you but with no joy... Looks like Dell never made Vista drivers for this model.

Have you tried contacting Dell technical support?

Is there a specific reason/problem/error when USING the WINDOWS xp drivers?nah...the default driver works just fine...

Was hoping there was a driver available...tried Dell...no luck. Thanks for looking, though...I did the same thing...to no avail.

Solve : Looking for a sound driver.?

Answer»

Did you look at the bottom? I dont know why but usually you can press it and it opens and there is a place to store cds.If there was it might have been removed. Opened up the comp and there is nothing on the MB. Just checked the start up screen and the information screen just says compaq deskpro. The only other number I could find on the back is this one 6023DKY5A484 and I doubt that is what I'm looking for.all it said at the bottom was series pd1005Download, and install Everest: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html
In left pane, go Motherboard>Chipset, and see, if there is any driver download link.
Intel 82440BX/ZX is a very old chipset, and so far I didn't have any luck to find a driver for it.
IF, the on-board audio chip is still OK, installing chipset driver may bring the sound back.
But, there is also a good chance, the sound chip is dead.
Eventually, you can get basic sound card (~$15), still....this computer has only 128MB of RAM, and you're gonna have a hard time running XP on it.
It's gonna be painfully slow.Yeah. compared to my 3 plus gig cpu and 2 gigs of ram this is a snail though it is handling xp fairly decentlyHere is the everest report:

Solve : Camera Driver Issues?

Answer»

Okay. To start off:
I have an eMachines T3646:
160gb hdd
1gb RAM
Vista Basic

Okay. I have a Canon SD1000. Ever since a couple weeks ago, my camera has been working perfectly fine on my computer. All of a sudden, about 2 weeks ago, when I plugged it in, Vista would make the noise to tell you that something was plugged in the USB port and then nothing happened. I opened Device Manager and under portable devices, the item "Digital still camera" driver had a YELLOW question mark next to it with code 10. Now, when I try to plug in the camera, Vista tries to install the drivers but the operation is always unsuccessful. I cannot get the drivers off of Canon's website because my drivers are up to date.
If it means anything, 2 weeks ago, I jailbroke my iPod touch.
Please help.
Quote

If it means anything, 2 weeks ago, I jailbroke my iPod touch.

Please elucidate. I don't understand the term when applied to the iPod.

Yes, it means something. You did something with your iPod and your computer, and in the same time frame, your computer STOPPED cooperating with your camera. With Vista u should have 2GB RAMyes- I have to agree with Aegis- what is "jailbreaking" something?Interesting

Basically it's a method enabling one to install 3RD party apps to an iPod...
Since Apple has shut down many sites dealing with this then we won't deal with it either.

See the Forum Rules for clarification.Quote from: Laska on April 03, 2009, 01:04:00 PM

1GB works fine for me. Its pretty zippy.
I JUST remembered.
A few weeks ago, on a Saturday night, my brother had been home from COLLEGE for a week for Spring Break and had forgotten the cord for his digital camera, so he asked if he could pop his memory card into my camera (which had been working perfectly prior to this) and connect my camera to his Apple Powerbook G4. He got his pictures without a hitch and gave me my camera back. Then I tried putting MY pictures on MY computer and this is when I encountered this problem. I began to jailbreak my iPod the NEXT night, so the jailbreak couldn't have caused the problem.
In addition to what I said above, I just tried to use a different cord and camera, and the problem remained the same. Also, my camera and cord worked perfectly on my Dad's computer.

SO: is it possible that having my camera connected to a Mac could have messed it up?Does anybody have any ideas?
Please? I'd like to be able to PUT my photos on my computer. Quote

Do a System Restore to before the problem started.
In the search BOX type: rstrui and press enter.
Now you will see

Just choose a date before the problem started and click finish. Your computer will restart and be restored to the date that you chose.

Good luck!

Solve : Ip address?

Answer»

I downloaded McAfee and another program at the same time. After I can no longer connect to the internet. I get a message error that says CONNECTED with limited access. (in other WORDS no access) when I go to start cmd and type in ipconfig it takes me BACK to the c prompt. I am running Windows Vista and have an HPIt sounds like you downloaded two antivirus programs. They will try to battle against each other and cause problems, like loss of internet CONNECTION. I would uninstall both of them and install only one of them. Then check if you get the internet back.I also have two network adaptor yellow boxes isatap.{5A391858-2FA6-4061-ACD3-CA40C56A4666} Do these need to be UNINSTALLED? Re-install your MBoard drivers...they should contain the Ethernet drivers...

Solve : Compaq 5BW120 No Sound!!!!!!!!?

Answer»

Okay I have a 5BW120 2H07DTY9616F it runs windows 98. I have no disk to this machine and got it second hand. I got the driver off the site and tried INSTALLING with an error. Found that I needed direct x 6 installed but I get It TRIES and looks for a file called ksuser.dll but its looking at the c drive and says its looking at the cd an cant find it. Not sure if its on the disk.
that's from the windows 98 CD.so it is on there then okay. But it looks at LIKE C:/windows/cabsYes, because in some installs, those CAB files are put on the hard drive, so Windows doesn't always require the disc to resolve issues. They're called cabinet files, because they contain compressed information. Ah but why is it asking for the disk then? Pointless about half then.it's asking for it because as far as it's concerned the files are on the disc. the fact that the path was changed to a folder on the HD, and it subsequently didn't find the proper files is why it's asking for the CD.

you DO have a windows CD, right? change the path from C:\windows\precopy or whatever it is to your CD-ROM drive.

there, another trip to google averted.right, but were in the cd do I find the directory?\Win98

now you've averted a trip to windows explorer!

you're on a roll! I'm in middle of CLASS so sorry about ahh.

OK. not at the machine then? nope thought that youd figure that. Dont have a connection any way there.

Solve : MotherBoard Drivers?

driverguide spammers seem to gather here sometimes...It's Spring....at least in some Hemispheres.ahh YES, that's when the spammer eggs hatch, and out crawl some of the lowest forms of life known.Hello,

Go to this web site: http://www.jetfans.us/ (it uses Driveragent scan) and select

1. Locate drivers for the COMPUTER you are using now?

OR

2. Locate drivers for a computer that is not connected to the internet?

Once you are done. give me the Driveragent Scan ID, I will try to provided all the drivers needed (Free of cost, I know one of the driveragent admin, I will ask him)

NOTE: All the instructions are provided on the above web site. Please read it.( DriverAgent is a small tool that will scan a computer for hardware devices, and provides working LINKS to the drivers)

I will try my best to give you the drivers.

Sykes LMAO

how very timely, and relevant to the previous few posts...Why you would suggest DriverAgent is beyond me...

Solve : Another Bad Image?

Answer»

Everytime I try to trun on my computer i receive a bad image code \??\E:\WINDOWS\system32\RPCRT4.dll is nat a valid windows image.
I can't even log onto Windows. It shuts down the computer except enough power to bring up prompt. I lose functionality of my keyboard and mouse as well.
I don't have any program discs for this.
Any suggestions?Welcome to the forum.
There are many poeple here who want to help.
We need more information about your computer.
What kind? What make and model? How old is it?
And can you notice if there were some other problems recently?it's an HP Pavillion 6835. Right now it's running XP Professional. I'm not quite sure exactly how old it is. i think about 5 or 6 years.
There is a deeper issue here. Someone put the XP Professional on here without my permission. Not just that but it was never registered because apparently that person "boot legged" the program. I was attempting to reinstall Windows 98 through MS-DOS, but it wasn't recognizing my cd-rom drive. I restarted the computer, and thats when the Bad Image prompt started.I think that computer was sold with Windows ME, not windows 98. It may be hard to install Windows 98 without the drivers disks that cam with the computer.

How did some one install XP without you permission? Did a technician do that? Your cousin from Arizona?

That model can run XP very well. But Windows ME is not recommended because so many programs now are written for either windows 2000, XP or Vista.

Di you still have any of the original materials that came with the HP Pavillion 6835?
Somewhere there is a serial number and perhaps another number called a service code. With house numbers you can find if that machine was licensed to run XP. Some ME machine may have been upgraded to XP, even out of warranty. The Serial number can help you find out. You can contact HP via e-mail and see.
Have you been on the HP site? You need to go there to get drivers.

http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.htmlThe computer had Windows 98 on there initially. The person who installed it was someone i THOUGHT i could TRUST with the computer. I don't have any of the original materials for the computer, but i have the windows 98 program to reinstall on it. The problem isn't necessarily all of that right now though. The problem is the Bad Image that i don't know howto get rid of.As this point you want to biit the computer in 'safe' mode.
Turn the computer on, wait a few seconds and start hitting the F8 key until you get a response. You will see a menu that lets you select safe mode as an option.
It won't boot in Safe Mode or any other Mode for that matter. It seems to be giving me the Bad Image prompt where the "Log In" PAGE should be coming up. Do you have an XP CD ? ?No I don't if read the previous post. I need to get rid of this Bad Image and i don't know how without the Installation DiscI don't see any valid way to solve this issue without an XP CD as the machine will not even boot into safemode...
You will need to track one down...
The version and service packs installed need to match the CD i.e. if you have XP Pro with SP2 installed then that is the CD you will need to FACILITATE repairs.Raven,

The file you refer to is referenced at Process Library: rpcrt4.dll

Since you are running a bootleg version of XP Pro on that machine, there's REALLY not much we can do for you, except refer you to your local computer retail store for a legitimate version of XP Pro...or you can contact your computer manufacturer for recovery software.

The recovery software is relatively inexpensive and will put Windows 98 back on your machine...

Other than that...good luck!Thank you. I'll attempt the recovery software. I don't want the XP on the computer mainly because its used to just pay bills and whatnot.

Solve : INSTALLATION problem?

Answer»
Hi,
i have Compaq presario f700. had a problem with virus, so had to reboot my system. when i installed the new OS(windows xp) i started having problems with drivers INSTALLATION. i successfully installed all drivers except the audio drivers. Microsoft UAA HD driver sp32646 doesn't install properly. it comes to a point that it prepares to install and asks me to wait and suddenly everything stops. task manager shows that this process is not running. i tried to install in safe mode. didn't work
please help me guys i need soundAre you sure that's the correct UAA file for your computer?

I've just put XP (SP2) on a new laptop which had Vista on it, and I needed KB888111.exe for proper UAA installation. Go to the microsoft website and search out the 888111 file and request a download. They'll just email you a link and you download from there.

Unless, of course, you're sure that you've already got the correct file... in which case I'm not sure how to fix your problem.i downloaded that from Microsoft website... sorry dude didnt work It came originally with Vista didn't it?On my DVD...Oh, you torrented your Vista DVD? Nope.
Brand new from the Microsoft store.
I won it on one of the other Forums i VOLUNTEER on...Vista Ultimate X64.
Nice because it shipped with both the 32 and 64bit versions...

I also ordered from MS the CD's which they sent for a nominal shipping charge. These are for installing on a MACHINE with CD but no DVD player...i just stored them offsite for EMERGENCY backups.

MS can be very generous if you speak to them the right way.... you download the driver for sound in www.compaq.com following the MODEL specification. you just give what is being ask in the website all the information about your laptop (downloadable from the company ok) to get the exact driver.

Solve : driver for mercury MW54P?

Answer»

hello there...anybody here COULD help me find a driver for my wireless mercury MW54P?
I really need this...I reformatted my PC (desktop) and I can't use my internet anymore..maybe it's because of the driver i need for the wireless..
any suggestions? I gather Mercury is the brand of wireless hardware you have?
If it is, just go to their website, look up the hardware, download the driver.
Or go to the MAKER of your computers website, look up the hardware there, and you'll likely find a driver is available. Download to any computer, save to USB drive if need be, and COPY over for use on your system.Since all the search results for that unit are in Chinese it may be easier to just get a NEW wireless PCI card...isn't there any way out here?

Solve : SONY VGN-290 drivers?

Answer»

I have a sony laptop(model vgn-290). I installed Windows XP in it instead of Windows Vista. But I can't find the drivers for it. There is only Windows Vista drivers on the official WEBSITE. Where should I find the drivers and sony software for Windows XP,especially the Bluetooth driver.

Thank you.I forget to tell you that my laptop model is SONY VGN-CR290This should have been investigated before you upgraded to XP....
Some laptops were built with only Vista available...you may have one of those.
If so you are out of luck.Any reply?I wouldn't say you're out of luck. I just bought an HP laptop with Vista on it, and HP provide ZERO drivers for XP and state that they do not support XP for this computer.

Yet here I am, ALBEIT a week later, with my new HP computer and XP finally working reasonably well on it. I have a few quicklaunch BUTTONS which don't WORK quite RIGHT but otherwise it's all fine.

My suggestion is to go to the Sony website to find out all the hardware your system has, what brands and models, etc. Then go to the respective "brand" website to find the drivers for the each piece of hardware - they'll likely have suitable drivers. Also, you may find in some cases that the Vista drivers actually work in XP, as my sound card driver did.

Make a start with that, you'll probably get most if not all of your drivers.
What I'll also add is that it took me about a week to get my system running properly on XP, and that there's no one place to go to for all drivers - like a driver "pack". You're probably wishing to hard to expect that, like I was for a while.

Solve : Downgraded from Vista to XP and now numerous drivers aren't installed.?

Answer»

Hello,

I've downgraded from Windows Vista Ultimate BACK to XP Home Edition. The disk I used was the 2002 version of XP, never opened and had been sitting in a box for quite a while now. When I try to go to dxdiag.exe, I go to the directx page. It says that my current video driver does not support direct3D. And I am a game designer so that is a problem. I've had this problem before and have been able to fix it. I went to device manager, and it stated that my video controller, network controller, and my Ethernet controller did not have drivers. So, I TRIED to find the driver manually, but none of them were supported. I remember when I first got my laptop it had the Intel RADEON 8500 family driver. So, my second resort was to go to a website and DOWNLOAD one of there driver check tools that would download the appropriate driver. Problem is, my internet driver is not installed! (Like I said earlier) SO WHAT DO I DO?! My thought is that because my laptop was newer than the XP software, the software didn't come with the appropriate drivers for my laptop. Or at least out dated one's. Please Help Me! There'll be drivers, I'm pretty sure of that... well, mostly I'm sure.
I've just spent a very challenging week getting my new laptop rolled back to XP from Vista, so I can probably give a couple of tips depending on what type of machine you have.

Can you tell us exactly what type of computer you have? Brand, model, etc...Windows won't have all your laptop drivers...the manuf. site is where to get them if you don't have the laptop's Driver CD that ships with the machine...I have a Dell inspiron 9200 windows xp service PACK 1.
Intel Pentium M/Centrino
1.60 GHz
598MHz
1.00 GB RAM
Dell inspiron 9200 windows xp

Do NOT get drives from other places until you first try the Dell Web Site:

Solve : XP driver search?

Answer»

I am looking for the latest driver for my Asus P5Q Realtek ALC 1200...searched everywhere and i can only seem to find drivers for windows VISTA and i'm running Windows XP Service pack 3..Can someone help by posting a link to the driver i need. Thx again for the help. What is it? Chipset driver, or sound driver?sound
Computer brand, and model, please.(1). First, download the Realtek driver from here .... http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/Barebone/P3-M3A3200/RealtekALC1200_Audio_V51005657_V6015657.zip

The description for this file says it's the Asus P2-M3A3200 Realtek ALC1200 Audio Driver 5.10.0.5657/6.0.1.5657 for XP/Vista, but it seems to be an older VERSION of the Audio driver. If it unzips and you can install and get sound to work fine, then I'd just keep it as is Else you can continue with the following (which I think updates the driver if I'm not mistaken):
(2). after unzipping file to a location you can find easily, then "START"--> "Control Panel"--> "System"-->"Hardware" --> "Device manager". you may find an item named as "sound, video ... control"
(3). WITHIN this item, find a subitem titled as "Realtek .....". Right CLICK and choose "update the driver". Don't let Window update automatically choose the right driver for you. You have to update the driver yourself from the folder where you put the unzipped files. The right driver for XP32bit may locate within "Audio \ driver \ WDM"
(4). If you are unable to update, you may need to release your current driver then update.

Hope this works for you!

Solve : audio problems?

Answer»

I have audio problems its telling me i have no audio device, I downloaded updated driver from gateway, but still nothing. In Device Manager do you have a "Sound, video and game controllers" section and if so what is under it. Also do you have any "Other devices" or any other devices with yellow exclamation marks or red X's?in the sound & audio devices its all gray nothing is hi-lighted, it won't let me select anything. Is this for a laptop or desktop computer?

If it is a desktop, do your speakers plug into the lime green plug with the folowing arrangement?

Its plugged into the light green portYou sent me this personal message. Please only post here and not SEND me a Personal message, since it helps me keep track of things.

I do have a yellow exclamation next to pci device

If this is the case. Try highlighting the PCI device, removing it and rebooting the computer. If this does not work it's LIKELY you're going to need to get the drivers for this sound card. Do you have the model of gateway you're using?I think that you mentioned that in the sound & audio devices its all gray , so try this it will help you:
Go to Start menu and chose Run, write this command:
SERVICES.msc, press enter
In new window on the right panel find Windows Audio and double click on it, when you see the new window under Windows Audio Properties in page General down to the Startup type make shore it is Automatic and in the part Services status click on Start than Apply, OK and the problem is solved.
Quote
I suggest you this because sometimes this SERVICE is stoped by some virus infections, even if your PC is protected by antivirus software, when you delete the virus it leaves this problem.

P.S. Let US know if this did helped you.
Cheers.

Solve : NIC Not Function After Reboot?

Answer»

I just reinstalled XP Pro (clean install) on a home-built 4-yr-old box. 1 G of RAM, 2 hard DRIVES, AMD processor.

When I reboot, there is no network connection (cable modem, ROUTER). I go to the Device Manager, uninstall the NIC, search for hardware changes, and XP reinstalls the NIC. Everything is fine until I reboot. I've tried reinstalling the driver, rolling back the driver and nothing seems to change this. The NIC is a Asound PCI 10/1000.

I had this same problem a couple of years ago and finally cured it -- but I cannot remember exactly what I did.

What am I doing wrong?

PeterRe-install your MBoard drivers...Tried reinstalling the MB drivers to no avail. Actually, I did it twice over a couple of days.

Like I mentioned, this happened a couple of years ago. I have some vague recollection that it was coming up with an incorrect IP address or something like that. And that uninstalling it and letting XP discover it again caused it to get a CORRECT address.

Does that make any sense?

PeterConfigure your connection so that the DHCP server and Gateway point to the routers IP address. And if 2K_dummy's advice doesn't work grab a brand new NIC card and install it.

2) Did you install the correct drivers ? ?
3) How does the card show up in Device Manager ? ?
4) Did you disable onboard sound in the BIOS ? ?
Thanks for the respond Kame.
Yes i have disable the onboard sound also remember that i had a soundblaster before, which WORKED well with no problems.
i install the new card with the CD supplied. If it only happens in solotaire there's 2 things you can do...
Ignore it.
Or put that sound card thru all the paces in every app you can think of and try to reproduce the condition. If you do return it for a replacement.I voted....what can i do? You'll need to disable the old sound card and ENABLE the new one. Run a sound test through control panel so that it will recognize the hardware. This info was given 3 days ago. Look up there.

Solve : Microsoft USB Intellimouse Explorer?

Answer»

i need a DRIVER for a microsoft USB intellimouse explorer optical v1.1, but every site i find re-directs me to microsofts site, which is a dead end because they stopped supporting this mouse quite a long time ago. its a five button mouse, optical, with a scroll wheel, and its USB v1.1. its OLD, but it works great. if you know where i can get find a driver, please tell me, thanks.

EDIT: as a note, the v2.0 driver MAY work if i can find it, but the 3.0 does not work at all with this mouse. a UNIVERSAL driver for the series would probably work also, as long as i can set the side buttons to do what i want them to, i'll be happy.I would just invest in a new mouse...i highly recommend Logitech.
The wireless optical i use right now was less than 30.00 after rebate and it is bulletproof...Did you try to update the driver from device manager. Windows might have a built in driver.Quote

i LIKE my mouse. i see no reason to in getting a new mouse when mine has NEVER failed in the seven odd years my family has used it, and no, windows doesnt have a built in driver that supports the button feature. that and "investing" in anything is a bit impossible, as my budget is literally non EXISTENT.

Solve : Cell Phone(modem?) won't connect through infrared?

Answer»

OS: Windows 98 Second Edition

Problem: Computer wont recognise my mobile phone through infrared using a usb adapter. I seem to have all the correct DRIVERS installed for the adapter, according to the cd.

When I activate infrared on my phone, it shows that it is CONNECTED to a computer(on screen, using an image, top-left). Also, on the actual computer, it comes up as "one infrared device in range - SAGEM" on the Infrared Monitor. So it is obviously connected.

When I try to transer files using Infrared Recipient, the following message appears:
"Communications could not be initialized. Make sure infrared is enabled on your machine thourgh the infrared control panel applet." (- which is referring to the Infrared Monitor)

The problem is that the infrared monitor is not installing the (modem?) drivers for the PNP device (which is my mobile phone) when it is connected. When trying to install it manually through the control panel, it seems to recognize my phone. However the infrared on the phone seems to disconnect (image top-right) for a slight moment.
Thus, saying that it could't find any modems during the search. (it searches through 3 ports - port1, port2 and an virtual infrared port)
While all this is happening, i noticed that the infrared monitor seems to be showing activity. (eg. as if it was sending/recieving files.)

Does anyone have any advice for me?
eg:
-change settings on phone (serial speed)
-change setting on computer (serial speed)

Note: I almost forgot, my phone model is 'Sagem my400v' if that helps

Solve : Re: Graphic card driver ? for LCD resolution?

Answer»

Did you push it in properly?

Perhaps you need to set your monitor to either digital or analog input if it's an LCD monitor. Or you put the videocard in the wrong slot, it NEEDS to be in the upper SLI slot otherwise there will be a big delay on when you'll get visual during boot.. Or you might not get visual at all.No problem "HONVETOPS"

"Set the monitor to either digital or analog input" ? Yes, it is an LCD, *** how do I do that?***

Assuming your monitor is capable of both there should be a switch somewhere. Check the manual to find it.

Did you try booting with a PCI videocard to see if that works? (Not PCI-E)What type of videocard is installed? perhaps you forgot to hook up the SLI POWER connector.. (6 pins)Wonder who the OP was?? I thought Raptor was just talkin to himself...

Solve : Manaccom Camera Drivers?

Answer»

Hey everyone. I'm having a little bit of trouble with the drivers for my Manaccom web CAM. This was the web cam that came with the "Send Away" promotion in the Trend-Micro Internet Security 2006 program. This is generally a plug and play web cam, but this does not seem to be WORKING this way for me this time around. It has worked before, but we reformatted the computer and now it is not installing. I've tried drivers updates through Windows, rolling back of drivers, uninstall and reinstall etc., but nothing works. I'm running XP SP2 legit version. Could someone direct me to a website where I can download the drivers for this webcam or its equivalent? Thank you.Without knowing much about the webcam itself, I'm going to take a shot in the dark and say these might be the drivers you need (it appears to be the only webcam they make)...

http://www.manac.com.au/Support/dl/USB_Webcam_Drivers.exe

If you don't have the CD that came with the cam, you might want to download this. Also, make sure your DIRECTX is up-to-date. If the drivers don't work and you're still having problems, you might want to stop by the Manaccom forum.CBMatt is correct here is the full download--->Full

no,as i said, it didnt work this morning, but worked last night. the generic drivers worked before i turned it on this morning. wont work with any PS/2 keyboard that i've tried in normal or safe mode. i dont know if its a port issue or what though. What happens if you boot with your operating system CD?

What happens if you boot with your operating system CD?

It reads a CD, and and the keyboard works there just not in windows, but reformatting and reinstalling windows is not an option.. I have almost 90GB out of 290GB used, and I have no way back it up at the moment. I'd just like to be able to fix this problem. I was able to use a voice recognition software to type this message. though it is slow and sometimes inaccurate, once I train it should be better than typing. But as of now, it's quite annoying to type with. however, I need my keyboard video GAMES and such, so if anyone can help, please do so. Although not a solution you can get a PS2 to USB adapter...

It works on boot but not in Windows tells me the port is not fried.

Start/Run and type in sfc /scannow and hit Enter just for grins...long as it doesnt screw up my nvidia or audio drivers..
It shouldn't at all...it's designed to check all Windows installed system files and replace any that might have gotten corrupted.that fine.. but... will it finish this century..?Be patient...you might have more than one issue.

Interrupting it can cause mucho grief....it didnt fix anything.. srry for the wait on the reply. had to use the hdd with the keyboard issue. i did find the error below when i tried to find a fix to this prob.. anyone know if this is the prob? if you know how to fix this, please tell me..

[old attachment deleted by admin]SFC should have fixed this issue...did you let it run to completion ? ?

You might be looking at a repair install.

Buy a PS2 keyboard...every computer user should have one if just for emergencies.
Let's say you cannot get XP to boot and you need to run the Recovery console...since Windows isn't loaded neither are the USB device drivers. If you have a USB keyboard you are out of LUCK...

Recent operating systems do not need drivers for CD drives. As the DEPUTY has said, a driver is NOT the issue. What does it do or not do? Is it SEEN in Device Manager? Have you tried other USB PORTS (especially in the back of the machine)?

Try it on another machine with SP2 on it. If it doesn't work there either, you may have a dud. Was it new?

Some machines front ports are underpowered and might be causing this.
Try a rear port and dis-connect any other USB devices that aren't completely NECCESSARY and (sigh) try the re-install again.

Gotta admit i'm getting stumped on this one but it actually sounds like poorly written drivers...

Also do you have the phone on AC power when you are hooking it up ? ?Is it plugged into it's charger UNIT ? ?

Did you unplug all unneccessary USB devices ?Check add/remove for any samsung listings and remove them from there if you can.
If not go to Windows Explorer and delete any Samsung folders and retry...hello again, now l did what you advised and it said the same can't find software, but on taking the usb out of the back port l got a message saying my hardware was ready to use, does that mean it's done it, and if so how do l check its done and prepare to add music to my phone l don't know what to do to get music to the phone from scratch. thanks

If you have a computer PROBLEM, before asking your question please make sure to try searching for it and try browsing the FAQ Database. Some questions get asked weekly or more often, and it is smarter to check these spots first rather than expect someone to reinvent the wheel and type it ALL out again. If the suggestions don't work, or you have other questions, then certainly post away (but not in the FAQ).

Click here to create a new topic in the Drivers section.

When posting make sure to keep the below guidelines in mind.

 • List as much about your computer as possible. This includes operating system (what version of Windows you are using), service packs, computer make/model, RAM, hard drive, sound and video cards, current adware/spyware/virus programs being used on a regular basis, do you have a "real" Windows CD, etc.
 • Post in the appropriate forum. Do not start a thread in "Programming" if you need help with a specific program. That would go in "Software". If you post in the DOS forum please specify if it is "real DOS" and what version or some sort of Command Prompt from with Windows, and what version of Windows. There are differences some subtle, and some very important. These tips ensure that the people most likely to help will see your posts.
 • Don't "hijack" someone else's thread. Though you problem may sound similar it is a rude practice and the real issues and solutions may be very different. Click on "Start New Subject".
 • Make sure to click the Spell Check button before posting your question or reply.
 • Use an intelligent title. "Help Me Now" is not as likely to get you help from the appropriate people as quickly as "Smoke Coming From Power Supply"
 • Do not make multiple posts in different AREAS for the same issue. That merely confuses things and they will probably be deleted.
 • Be as thorough as possible with your description of your problem. What happens exactly, error messages, if any, what happened before this started, what you have tried, are you the only user, type of internet connection, what you have done inside the case, etc.
 • Keep your computer safe. Use the SUGGESTED FREE spyware/adware/antivirus programs. Click here for a great post listing these programs.
 • Realize that this is a volunteer forum. Don't expect instant solutions to all of your problems or be abusive to those who try to help. We donate our time as we can. If you want to pay $75+ an hour for support, there are plenty of repair shops that can and will take your money. We cannot see your machine. We can only suggest based on the pertinent data you post. Again, more is BETTER. Too little is pointless.
 • If you have some solutions, REGISTER and help others. Unlike many "Help Boards", we welcome input from well informed and well experienced members, not just moderators.
 • Don't post messages with any personal information such as personal e-mail address, home address, phone number, credit card information, etc. All posts can be viewed by anyone or anything visiting the forums.
 • You cannot give too much information. about the system. Withholding information seldom solves a problem quickly, if at all. Please don't expect us to drag information out of YOU to solve YOUR problem.
 • We do not help with cd-keys, cracks, and warez. This is not negotiable.
 • We try not to help with homework. If this is what you are after, please at least be honest and don't try to hide the purpose for the question. Honesty sometimes gets results!
 • It is OK to use the PM feature to contact a member about a specific question, but don't expect a response, unless you have already established that relationship. Our expertise is displayed in the forums to help everyone.
 • Finally, if a suggested fix works or you resolve it some other way, PLEASE post back to let other users know its a tested solution.

Most of all have fun and enjoy the community that is here!

Thanks to GX1_Man and all the forum members who help put this together.

Solve : EXB-1500 DOS tape drivers?

Answer»

I just picked up an EXB-1500 tape drive to see what's on my old tapes. I can't get it working in my DOS 6.22 SETUP, I'm not sure what to load into the autoexec.bat and config.sys files. What SYS file would I use with an old tape drive??From what I am able to determine, the EXB-1500 connects using what looks like and will connect to a Floppy Disk Controller, but it uses a proprietary Controller Card. I can't find any information about whether it has SCSI or IDE variants.

I wasn't able to find the driver software for MS-DOS. I see listings on eBay which include the proprietary Controller card as well as the driver software diskette, but cannot find any information on compatible alternative controller CARDS or driver software downloads.I actually have the controller card, that's not the issue. I even have the Arcada Backup software DISKS, but they are built for Win95, and there is no discernible driver for DOS on there. Is there a generic SYS file that DOS uses for tape DRIVES? HONESTLY, it's been ~20 years since I used it, so I don't remember how to set it up in the autoexec.bat or config.sys. Sorry to bump, but any info on installing a tape drive in DOS would be most helpful! If i remember correctly i used to be able to get older Adaptec tape drives...Qic 80 i believe using HP Dos tape drive software...Quote from: patio on October 19, 2015, 08:28:42 AM

Moreover, i used intallupdatewizard and mcafee but cannot. They say there is a app that is running and i have to uninstall it. But i do not know what it is about and dont know how to continue to play this game. Can ANYONE help? My driver has something wrong is it? ThanksThis sounds more like a malware issue than a driver issue. What is the application you're being told to uninstall called? What is the exact error message you're SEEING?

Solve : SATA issue. Cant see desktop?

Answer»

My old computer broke, I had a bunch of files that I needed to get off of it so I purchased a sata adaptor.

When I hook it up to my computer for some reason I can not see any files on the desktop. On the folder options I have selected to show hidden files and there is nothing there.

My computer tells me that the hard drive is nearly full, so I know the data is still there, but for some reason I can not see it.Are you sure the data is on your desktop and not at G:\users\me\my documents ?I am 100% positive the files that I was looking for was in a folder on the desktop.

I am not sure why I can not see ANYTHING at all on the desktop.Your files are there...all the Desktop contains is shortcuts to those files...
Open the HDD in Explorer at the root and you will see all the directories/files.Please forgive my IGNORANCE here... What do you mean "Open the HDD in Explorer at the root"

how do i do that?I'd think you already did- the "root" is the top-level of the drive itself- after clicking, in this case, G:, but I expect you went through that already.

Are you certain that your user was "Me"?

The files are not stored elsewhere. They should be visible there. One possibility is an issue with permissions, though I don't think it could simply cause files to be invisible. Since it is a separate drive it might be reasonable to Take Ownership of the files therein, since they are still largely going to be tagged as being "owned" by the user on the previous system (which isn't done by name, but uses a unique ID).

If you know of any files in particular that you want to find, you might be able to find out where they are by opening the Root as patio mentioned (the top level of your G: drive, in this case) and then using the Search Bar in Windows Explorer (the "search Desktop" area in your screenshot) to try to find it.No luck, gaining ownership helped my open up some folders in other locations but it didn't MAKE any of the missing files appear on the desktop.Stop concentrating on the Desktop...as i stated all your files are there...Desktop only has shotcuts to any file /app etc...
Look up some tutorials on file management and you will find what you NEED...Quote from: patio on October 29, 2015, 01:22:51 PM

Desktop only has shotcuts to any file /app etc...

If you create a folder on the desktop, the folder is created directly in the desktop folder (C:\Users\\Desktop) and any files you add to it are stored there directly as well.
Long shot, but might be worth checking Users\Public\Desktop as well...other than that, have you tried running a search on the drive (ASSUMING you know the folder name)?Quote from: BC_Programmer on October 29, 2015, 03:27:31 PM

I did not know this...however i disagree.Quote from: patio on October 29, 2015, 04:15:56 PM

Do you disagree with the first fact or the second one?
If he knows the name of just one file or folder, he could just do a global search. Once found, he can open the containing folder.

None of the suggestions are working, but I think everyone very much. i've been looking into understanding file management, it's only been 1 day but I don't think I am getting where I need to get, anyone have any good tutorials?Sata adapters are tricky to work with. The first time I used one I really had to look to find the files I wanted to save.
