. It is very slow and a Trojan called Fynben keeps reappearing in scans.

I need to completely reinstall with my current XP and new OFFICE 2007.
I’ve TRIED to go to Soltek for updates but they seem to be defunct.

I recently inadvertently deleted my sound programs and now they won’t reinstall, presumably because the Soltek disk which contains them isn’t able to adapt to XP.
I’ve downloaded something I found on the internet but I have no idea how to install it or indeed whether I should:

This is more of a comment rather than a question but replies are welcome. I installed Windows 7 RC on a Compaq d530 CMT computer about 8 days ago. Yesterday is when I first tried using flash drive with it. Win 7 displayed a message saying a valid DRIVER was not available and displayed a yellow triangle in Device Manager in the UNIVERSAL Serial Bus Controllers section. I deleted the device in Device Manager, restarted, tried the flash drive again, and got the same response.

Today, I tried a flash drive again and Win 7 accepted it as normal. I have no idea why Win 7 CHANGED it mind.It exhibited the same characteristics on my INITIAL install with a card reader...3rd boot = fine.
Go figure.

I'm new to this forum so I apologise if I have posted this thread in the wrong section.

I own a Dell Inspiron 530S with Windows Vista. The computer was "sleeping" and when I came back to it, it gave me a beep code of 4-4-4 which, ACCORDING to the Dell manual, indicates a cache test failure. Now whenever I turn it on I'm greeted by those FOUR unpleasant short beeps and a blank screen

I have scoured the internet for solutions but have been unable to find anything. A friend reccomended hitting the F12 key repeatedly to get a Dell Advanced Boot Menu and try and fix it from there but nothing seems to be appearing on the screen.

I'm NORMALLY quite good at solving these puzzles on my own but this one has really stumped me Any solutions? Any potential causes that I should be aware of in the future?

Its Xp version of driver does not work and I cant hear any voice:(

I have already downloaded that version of Sound Maker 5.1 but it worked not completely !!The device manager shows no error as it listed the sound device in the installed hardware, but I cant hear any voice from speaker still and the volume SYSTRAY icon is red-crossed!!
more interesting is that when I run my TV card interface (WINDVR), it plays the sound but when I PLAY a music with win media PLAYER or jetaudio,I don't hear anything!!
I am completely mixed up!!
If it isn't still installed why I hear the TV card Sound?
If it is installed then why I cant play music and systray Icon is red-crossed?

From what I can SEE, there are two types of Genius sound chips, Genius SM Live (older one) and Genius SM Live 5.1
If you have the first type, I don't see any Win 7 drivers.
You may need to buy a sound card (~$15).

Open device manager and if the yellow mark is under usb devices then click on the mark and click on reinstall button.
select the option reinstall automatically..... then the usb drivers will automatically installed into your system.....

If you have any other driver problem insert your laptop manufacturer's driver disk and do the same procedure as given above..
Hello Vikram. I am running the XP version that came with this 2001 laptop. I think it may have been the first XP release back then. There is no manufacturers driver disk as such, just the emergency CD's that were made from the original partition for that purpose when it was new. The yellow question mark in device manager is under Other and under that, Base System device.Since my original posting, I have been looking at the "Supposed Driver Scans" out there to gather any further Info and while I don't know if it is accurate or not, this is what I find. ************************************************************

Usually, if the manufacturer of the compuer does not provide the drivers, they refer you to the chipset manufacturer.

Download and install CPU-Z. Maybe it will be able to provide more information. Look on the "Mainboard" tab.You need to contact whomever you got the computer from and obtain the chipset driver.No, It has not been upgraded to SP3. I will do so next. What Chipset are you speaking of? Are there not many different ones on the motherboard? Iwill try the CPU util and let you know what it finds. This past Tuesday I upgraded my Vista Home Premium computer to Windows 7 home Premium. All is fine except for one thing. I cannot update the Nvidia Graphics Card with Windows Update. I GET an ERROR message everytime I try to update it. CAn ANYONE shed any light on this? I tried looking for this update from Nvidia itself as a .EXE file. Yet I cannot find it. So everything was fine. I installed libusb and an application to handle the installation of my Sixaxis controller driver, and apparently it didn't work because all of my USB ports became dead. So then I figured that I had to reboot...by doing so, I was PRESENTED with notices that my soundcard drivers, camera drivers, and a few other drivers were missing ("not installed") upon the reboot. I've TRIED 2 system restores, NONE of which were a success, sadly. Although I do have the Vista recovery disc....any ideas on what I can do??You need to locate the Driver CD that shipped with that MACHINE and re-install all of them...

At start-up the driver is stuck in INDEFINITE LOOP and I can only shuy off computer.

Alright, here's the problem, i wanted to use an old nVidia MX4000 64MB PCI GPU as a secondary GPU to run my TV and maybe another monitor, its got S-video, and its annoying to have to switch between my secondary monitor (Which is on my 7300 GT) and the TV every time i want to use the TV. I've tried the new drivers for the 7300, they don't see the MX4000, but the old MX4000 drivers see the 7300, but, the old drivers are absolutely horrible. Anyone got any ideas? I'll try to list things as detailed as possible. I know most of the specs off the top of my head.

The specs of this computer are as follows

Pentium 4 (socket 478) Prescott @ 3.0GHz w/ a 800MHz FSB, and Hyper Threading. I find it amusing how Prescotts nearly run hot enough to rival a stove eye without a decent heatsink. This ONE gets to about 146 tops while gaming, not horrible, but it could stand to be lowered, NOTHING I can do though, I got no money for a new heatsink, thats not the problem though, this system is rock solid usually. Though it does throw a random bluescreen at me from time to time... I think it just does that to annoy me. "Hey, you've been gaming too long, go away!".

MSI PM8M-V MS-7104 socket 478 motherboard. Pretty good motherboard, the VIA P4M800 chipset it boasts is better than the Intel chipsets of the socket 478 era.

Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 SBO100 PCI sound card. REALLY good sound card, bit lacking as far as modern performance goes, but its great for this setup. Sounds great too, I love good audio quality.

D-Link AirPlus G DWL-G510 Wireless PCI Adapter (rev B). Not much to say about this card 'cept that I've had it since 2006ish, its given me my fair share of hassle, lately its worked fine though.

Not entirely sure on the specs of the MX4000, I just know its a PCI nVidia MX4000 64MB 32 bit GPU, i had it running with my 7600 GT years ago when i was living at my fathers house. How I got it to run, I'm not sure.

Oh, the current setup I'm running, I don't have a decent case so... Its mounted to a uh... A wooden TV dinner tray. The CD/floppy drive bay is from a small shuttle PC case, the hard drive cage is from a gateway, and the motherboard tray is from a tiny Pentium III HP pavilon case, I haven't mounted the PSU, its just sitting ontop of the CD-RW drive. I don't have a picture of it, the only thing i have to use as a camera is a screwed up blackberry pearl, but its USB port came loose a while back. I've got a friend who can remedy it, when he does I'll upload a picture.

This system is surprisingly good, I can run Half Life 2: Episode 2 at near max settings @ 800x600, low resolution but man it looks great. I'll upload a screenshot of that if people want to see.

Keep in mind, this is just my backup rig, my primary is another story, not great at the moment, but good. Well, soon to be primary, soon as my brother is content with me trading my laptop for it.

My computer will not finish loading unless display driver is completely UNINSTALLED. My graphics card is a 7600gt. i can load in safe mode or if i click enable vga, otherwise i get a black or blue screen. With the nvidia driver removed my computer will then load normally. On a side note RUNNING safe mode with net and the driver INSTALLED i treid to update it and when it did my screen went haywire and stayed that way until i reloaded in safe mode again and deleted the driver.

Your post is a little confusing to me. What led up to this (what is different between the last time the system worked properly and the first time it did not)? Please post all details as clearly as possible.As of this morning when i started my cpu it got to the the windows load screen then screen went blank with hourglass in center and nothing happening. After a few attempts with the on/off button i started in safe mode with net to search for help. I found similar problems from other people which pointed to my graphics card or driver.

Some of the sugestions i read : run a memory tester, update driver, or delete driver then reinstall.

I did these things memory is fine. But ding when i did delete the driver the cpu started normally just with a low resolution.

From this point on if i reinstall the driver, old one or attempt a updated one, the cpu wont get past the load screen and just goes blank.

My CD Drive is not found so it will not PLAY any CD or DVD. I have a DELL Inspiron E1505. And use Windows XP. When looking in Device Manager the Drive no longer shows up. Just to expand a little on what Allen was saying, before checking the boot order of the CD drive, make sure it it showing up in CMOS/BIOS, period If it doesn't show in cmos, it will not show up anywhere else.

If it is not showing, Check the PATA/SATA cables, re seat them...reboot, enter cmos and see if it is there..


If the drive still doesn't show up, try plugging the cable into another connector on the board... If it still doesn't show in cmos/bios, then it could mean that the power supply isn't delivering the right voltages and trying another available power connector from the psu could help (assuming that the power supply isn't failing) At this point, if the drive still isn't showing up in cmos/bios, the drive is broke and you can forget about putting it first in the boot order, or any thing else


edit: you could also try the drive in another computer... If it works then the problem is something on your computer, if it doesn't work, then the drive is definitely broke

because of a program i purchased (and yes, did not read ALL of the directions), i did some deletion damage, so had to re-create some things.
i went to to dell "drivers/downloads" and saved them to a folder in "my documents".
how do i run/ADD them ?

The card is a Masscool XWT-RC040. I installed it on this PC a while back and it worked fine. The HDD I had my OS on bit the dust so I replaced it and re-installed XP but cannot find the driver disk!! I downloaded the supposed drivers from Masscool but the arent the same as what it came with it and when I FOLLOW Masscools instructions, XP says that it couldn't find the driver even though I had it look in the folder with Masscools "driver" in it. I tried to but it was a no go. That puzzled me until 2x3i5x pointed out that those drivers were for Windows 7. Since then I have been installing and uninstalling random sata pci card drivers. I'm glad to report that I have solved my problem by downloading a driver from one of VIA's products. I've just upgraded my son's PC - Pentium 4 1,7Ghz - to WINDOWS 7. I kenw that the drivers weren't AVAILABLE. Once upgrade, the only resolution that I get, with the standard VGA driver is 800x600 or 1024x768.

My monitor is a LG L192WS, which can go up to 1440x900.

Is there a generic driver for VGA cards that gives more resolution choices then only those 2?

I installed an old Photo editing software and with it came some crap called "My Digital Camera" which is in My Computer, under Other/Miscellaneous

I found a GUIDE which sort-of worked, I still got the crap and it works as it always do, but the label "My Digital Camera" is gone (The guide TOLD me to remove a CPL file from sytem32 folder)

It isn't listed in device manager or under Installed Programs..

I searched through the registery, for "My Digital Camera" and removed the entries, nothing happend

Also, the uninstaller for this software doesn't remove the crap either

Reason why I dont want it:

The tool is; not working with my camera, is ugly, slow and so on
And my camera can connected to any Windows (95 or higher) computer without that tool, like any storage device

Its late and im tired and else where. Anyways. im trying to install an ATI driver for a ATI RAGE PRO Turbo 8mb AGP. I downloaded the driver from this page:

under the Rage Pro subtitle and when trying to install it, it causes my system running 98SE to freeze up. Im assuming its the wrong Drive. Can someone point me in the proper direction? i believe its the correct one for my card.. I need for 98SE and for 2000. ThanksI was going to suggest the Rage XL driver, but from the looks of it its the same file as the Pro. I have a Rage 128 PCI adapter that is 8MB that I needed a driver to work with Windows 2000 Server and the XL driver worked for the Rage 128 GPU. The Rage 128 driver although should work with Windows 2000 Server errored out on me on install.

With Rage 128 driver version: 4.13.7192 and the Rage XL version: 4.13.2655 I believe I was using an older driver to get the Windows 2000 Server driver support to work.

MIGHT be APPLES to oranges because your using 98 and I was using 2000, but I think if its truly only a driver issue, going with an older driver version might fix this like it did for me.

I would try using an older version maybe. You used 4.13.2655 and try a driver such as 4.12.7942 or 4.11.2579 and see if you get better results. Because its the same family of GPU and very close in release, it shouldnt impact the performance much. But after istalling I have to disable the AMD driver from safe mode else I get blank screen after reboot .

It is a customized driver from HP which includes both the intel and the amd driver .

There is no option in the bios for switchable graphics .

I installed the appropriate driver . It worked before . But recently I reinstalled windows and now it is not working .

I have a Toshiba Satellite C55-B5298. I installed Windows 7 Home Premium Kama 64-bit comma on it because I was tired of using Windows 8. The install went well and all of the devices are working fine except the Wi-Fi. I have gone to the Toshiba WEBSITE, and I have used their tool to identify my MODEL by serial number, part number, Etc. For whatever reason comma EVERY TIME I go to install the Wi-Fi driver, the computer locked up right before the installation finishes. And I can't even get the computer to boot in normal mode after this lock up. I have to go into safe mode, then into device manager, and manually install the driver before the computer will Start Up Normally again. I'm not sure what to do. Right now I am using a USB Wi-Fi adapter to access the internet on this laptop. But I would like to be able to use this laptop without the USB Wi-Fi adapter please any help would be greatly appreciated. I was tipsed by a friend to use TrueCrypt to encrypt my entire disks and I was thinking hey good idea. Said and done I installed and rebooted and on windows loading screen ofcourse it gets stuck. Since i'm new here and no one seemed to have answered your question...
Even though you seem to have solved this (like a BOSS) on your own, i still WANT to try and answer this.

Most of the time when shutting down the SYSTEM during an update nothing will happen.
On reboot the update should be recognized as incomplete and should continue.

However if you shut down whilst updating an important file (system files or such) that file might get corrupted and your system will be unable to boot. or which is -in my opninion- worse it would cause "random" ERRORS, crashes and slowness (in your case you would probably have weird graphical issues)

When the driver was installing, my screen went black and froze. I decided to LEAVE it for about 5 minutes to SEE if it CHANGED anything but it didn't. The screen was still unresponsive. Is this due to a broken GPU inside my computer? Boot to safemode and remove the nVidia drivers and re-boot...I replied to your other post which is now locked. ( i believe you can still read the content though)
I replied as it being updates in general but this should apply to you sitiation as well.
also, patio is right. deleting and rebooting should clean up the mess it may have made.

I have a Compaq Evo with windows xp. I just got it today and I THOUGHT everything worked fine until I tried to plug in my ipod into the USB drive. I did not buy this new, and I cant figure out how to fix the problem. Can someone please help me. I REALLY need to use my USB ports. More info...And have you tried a DIFFERENT usb device to see if the ports work?The computer was not new when I bought it. The ipod works fine on other computers. And yes IVE tried to plug in a usb drive and nothing happens at all.
Travel to Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager...

EXPAND all instances of USB roots and Hubs by clicking them...
Right clik each one and select remove/uninstall....you will recieve an error message...ignore it.
After removing all instances of roots and hubs re-boot....Windows will re-install them automatically.

NOTE: Do this with only the bare minimum USB devices hooked up to the machine.

NOTE #2: If this does not produce joy - joy you will need to re-install the MBoard chipset drivers...

I just got a reminder that there is an update of drivers for my integrated video. I opened it up and one has to be really knowledgeable about such updates. I do not KNOW what options to pick of all that is offered. The one thing I did notice before i got this reminder, when I view certain areas..IE Youtube, and try to view a video clip, I see it, but there is a dark/red center vertical line on some of them, not all of them. Now I am wondering if its my OLDER drivers or is this something new. I went to AMD web site and got disgusted..the support we get these days almost forces one to register and Log in, in ORDER to see if one can get support from other viewers. All I want is to ask the question that I am asking here and not want to register for Facebook . I have enough Log ins as it is. So I am hoping someone here is in the same SHOES that I am with this driver update. BTW, I am not into games...that is why I chose integrated video for my build.

Today or shall i SAY last NIGHT I installed windows 10 64bit on an older machine and am having issues with its GPU driver.

Its an Acer Aspire AM1100-E1304A. Older machine but more then capable of running 10. So far everything has worked just fine aside from this error.

I downloaded the GPU driver from AMD (ATI x1200 GPU) and the installer from ATI refuses to install giving me an error STATING the component the installer searches for is not available, and it closes the installer.

So i downloaded the Chipset driver from Acer themselves, this one did install no problems. At the end of the install it asked for netframework 3.5 which i then installed but it had errors. Upon reboot it gave me the "missing or could not find MOM.implementation" error.

So i downloaded another 3.5netframework but it STILL happens. Upon uninstalling the driver, the setup locks up or seems to go on for HOURS trying to uninstall it but never does.

Any suggestions would help. yes i realize this is a Vista 64 driver, however it shouldnt have any issues working. My last case scenario i pop in some cheap PCI-E Gpu. The gentlement only uses it to stream TV. Was the driver 64 bit ? ?Quote from: comda on April 29, 2016, 08:54:51 AM
