Solve : Unable to remove old AGP driver?

Answer»

I'm setting up three monitors and I'm unable to remove the old AGP driver. I go to system devices and click on AMD-751 AGP Host to PCI Bridge and then click remove. It SEEMS to be removed so I close down the computer and install the duelhead AGP Video card in and reboot the computer but the the driver reinstalls itself.I have had no problems with the PCI Video card and can see a driver in system devices being AMD-751 AGP Host to PCI Bridge. This must have been a delault driver because it installed itself when it detected new hardware.I've done the hole setup about five times but the same thing happens. I have tried only putting in the APG Duelhead Video Card but no luck.Does any one know how to remove this Driver? Thank's

Regards Doug
Is this an onboard videocard that you are speaking about?

If so, go to either your BIOS or System management (Right click on My Computer -> Management) and DISABLE it.

Or you can look for a program called 'Driver Cleaner'

It can remove drivers you no LONGER use.

http://www.driverheaven.net/cleaner/

- Driver Cleaner - FreewareNot an onboard video card.

I've downloaded that software but a bit worried about

going to safe mode, I'll see what happens. Using 98 SE

Thanks DougFinally got there then the pci card would not be found but put it in the other slot and all was OK

Thank you

Solve : Installing Device Drivers?

Answer»

Hello all,

My brother was having problems with his computer and had the harddrive wiped clean. Upon reinstalling Windows 98 and other software he found he was unable to get on to the INTERNET. After checking the Device Manager I found that the drivers are missing for the ethernet. This particular computer has no cards installed on the motherboard whatsoever. So how do I go about finding the drivers for this device?

Pleeeeease Help.

Robjester333.....So the ethernet is on board. When you look at the device manager....DOESNT it TELL you what kind of ethernet adapter is there .......Then go to .......
http://members.driverguide.com/ums/index.php?action=l&ac=1091067993v828290 log in using "driver" as your username and "all" as PASSWORD.......then go to the network adapters and find yours and D/L the latest driver onto a floppy disk and install it in your computer.
( you will have to use another p/c to do this as you cant get online with yours).

Good Luck

dl65 I suggest you find the name of the mainboard its MANUFACTURER and download the mainboard/onboard periphal drivers from them.

Solve : Hp officejet pro 6978 not printing. It keeps showing "Driver Unavaliable"?

Answer»

Good Afternoon all,

I am new to this board and am needing help on this topic. I have a an HP Officejet Pro 6978 printer and it is not printing. It keeps telling me DRIVER unavaliable. I have it connected as a wireless connection and my OS is Windows 10.. I have tried everything from downloading new drivers from hp website, reinstalling the printer, and nothing is working. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.I have set up various Wi-Fi printers, they are all a bit quirky connecting up. I have found most of them prefer EITHER using the controls on the printer to connect, or to completely uninstall the software in windows and run through the setup process again.

I have found a link to the manual for your printer: In Chapter 8, Page 90 are the wireless setup instructions using the front panel, and other THINGS to watch out for, testing Wi-Fi etc

Solve : i2C device, code 10?

Answer»

Hi.

I'm using an HP laptop, an i5 Pavilion I bought about 6 months ago, running windows10. All of a sudden, the touchpad went completely dead. I looked in the device manager, found the device, uninstalled it, reset the computer. The touchpad is still dead and has now disappeared from the device driver. There is an exclamation point/bang/! NEXT to the i2C HID device, along with a code 10 error saying that the descriptor for the device cannot be found.

I started the computer in UEFI diagnostic mode, the touchpad works a treat. Soooo, I replaced the drivers for the i2C HID device, thinking it was a device driver issue. The new drivers were apparently corrupt, the device could not be started, code 48. At this point I got in touch with HP and got the run around, to the point that I gave up, frankly. I've since reset the machine using the cloud version of windows, no result.

Can anyone suggest something that I havent tried? I have uninstalled/reinstalled the i2C HID device, no result. Any help would be greatly APPRECIATED.

Cheers

You should really provide us with more information, 'used it last night & it was working fine' isn't really going to GET any of us anywhere.

I suggest you scan for viruses, check the cabling, test the CD-ROM drive on ANOTHER PC. But first, see if Windows XP is showing any errors in the device manager.

Solve : Installing GPU Drivers Crashes Computer?

Answer»

Hello everyone, I have a problem with my PC after I have upgraded graphics cards to a Gigabyte 3060TI Gaming OC Pro. The CARD lights up and the fans spin but after I installed the drivers, it crashed a quarter of the way through and I keep getting a blue screen error which cycles on and off. I have no idea how, but I have managed to get to my desktop on rare occasions but the display is showing a max of 1080p. I have a display port CONNECTED to the back of the GPU to my monitor as my only input. This makes me think that the hardware is fine. At the CURRENT moment, I can't access my desktop at all and my computer is boot looping constantly. HELP please!
Components:
Motherboard: x570i Aorus Pro Wifi
CPU: Ryzen 5600x
GPU: Gigabyte 3060TI Gaming OC PRO

Fresh Install of Windows (this GOT me to my desktop but upon trying to install the drivers for the GPU the same problem OCCURRED)
Attempted install of windows through bootable 64GB usb which was formatted to exFAT and installed with a fresh copy of windows. My computer can register the USB in bios but is unable to install windows through it giving a "no bootable device hit any key"

Solve : Intel 82810E Graphics Controller Uninstallation?

Answer»

Okay, so I'm trying to uninstall my Intel 82810E Graphics Controller so I can put in Radeon 9200 thing into the computer. However, I can't find out how to uninstall the Intel 82810E Graphics Controller, because it's built into the system, and I can not physically take it out. I've put in the new card, disabled the OLD one, but th old one keeps coming back The Radeon 9200 is physically in, but the instructiosn say to uninstall other video drivers. So I click the "uninstall" button on the Intel 82810E Graphics Controller, which reboots the MACHINE. It appears uninstalled as I install the new radeon card, as the screen is all messed up. But when I reboot afte "installing" the new card, I come back with the Intel 82810E Graphics Controller now installed again, the radeon not installed. How do I take the Intel 82810E Graphics Controller out of the system for good? Here is my tip base on experience, hope this would help:

Since Intel 82810E was built in, make sure that the Radeon is properly inserted to the VGA slot... In some cases 82810E will be disregarded and that the new VGA will be used... and if not still you have the rights what you want to use... In the Display Properties located depending on the OS, if it's Windows, then it is located at the Control Panel... Go to Setting > Advance > Adapter > Change... use the Radeon driver that you had...

I hope that helps...You should DISABLE it in your BIOS. Not only by using Windows.

Solve : Where's My Hard Drive Space??

Answer»

I have a computer that I built from SCRATCH and was working fine. One day I used System Restore to undo, (I put a game on there, but didn't have my virus software on it). I noticed that about 8GB more was used on my 80GB hard drive. I rolled back the last restore to find that about 8GB or so more was gone. I did this again ( which I should have learned by now ) and once again more space was gone. In all about 27GB or so of space is gone. What did system restore do, and how can I fix it?Hehehe, ... This is actually my first time to encounter such condition...

Let me see, if I were you... I will use the scandisk METHOD if I haven't seen what consumes my storage CAPACITY in my hard drive... in that case... the disk space reported will be repaired and correctly displayed...

and if this would not do... i'll try the disk clean-up method...

the above methods can be found in the Properties of the hard drive if you are using Windows as your OS...
I read somewhere that DISABLING system recovery and then resetting, will bring back the MISSING disk space. You can then turn it on again.

I never tried this, though.

Solve : Looking for a way to shut off display backlight - Driver Issue?

Answer»

So I have a Netbook with an Intel Atom N280 1.66Ghz APU in it. Driver Support ends at Windows 7 32-bit. I installed Windows 10 32-bit to it and it runs FINE on Windows 10 however when the display is set to SLEEP after 5 minutes the display will go black, but you can see the backlight glowing.

Prior OS on this Netbook was Windows XP and the driver for Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 3150 would SHUT off the backlight in addition to display going black.

The issue is that the backlight not shutting off eats into battery life even when the screen goes black.

Was wondering if ANYONE else out there ran into an issue with this and had a work around. Maybe a 3rd party utility that is able to target the backlight to shutting it off along side the display going black when the Windows 7 32-bit driver doesnt work with Windows 10 32-bit?Just an update to this...

Gave up on trying to find a way to shut off the back light and am using a better Core i3 laptop anyways now, so this old Intel Atom netbook is just going to be used when needed and shut down when not needed.

Solve : Has to be a driver issue....?

Answer» HEY guys, so LONG story short, my GPU died. I'm setting up IGP. All the motherboard and IGP drivers have been updated and the monitor drivers. When I connect both monitors I can either duplicate them or view them on mon 1 or 2. If I extend the view to both monitors I get this result https://imgur.com/eZuW16A (VIDEO of monitors flickering). I know it works in extended, I was changing some cabling and unplugged the HDMI accidentally and didn't notice until I'd booted. Now it won't work.Try a few cold boots with HDMI still unplugged...then replug and boot.

P.S. The tapestry looks GREAT !No changeOkay, there is a change, now when I select extend it just stays at whichever monitor it was assigned to.if the HDMI cable was hot-plugged try another cable...I had to use DDU and then reboot and REINSTALL the drivers. Odd, unless it was something floating around from when the GPU was working.

Solve : Generic Windows Tablet has lost all drivers?

Answer»

Hello all,

First time posting in these forums, I joined as I need help. I thought I was FAIRLY ok with most aspects of driver installs, but that has been challenged recently. I seem to have broken some drivers on my tablet

It is a fairly generic Tesco Connect 8.9 tablet (Tesco is a supermarket here in the UK if you're not from here), but the DEVICE appears to have been made by a now defunct company called Viglen

I had been struggling for ages to update Windows 10 to 21H2, but I finally did it, and it worked ok. Well as ok as it can, this tablet is not impressive in specs at all, and just says runs Windows, I just use it for MESSING around on, not for anything SERIOUS. But I did a rally stupid thing. The tablet was working, I should have left it alone, but I went to the "Optional" section of Windows update, and installed everything there, it looked like Webcam driver stuff etc. basically things that the tablet had onboard. This was a mistake, when rebooting the tablet appears to have lost all drivers for, well, anything, It doesn't know it's a tablet, there's no touch ability, no rotation, no battery indicator, doesn't recognise the SD reader etc, etc.....

Luckily, I already had a Bluetooth keyboard PAIRED, and VNC server running on it, so I can do stuff. Wi-fi seems ok

I managed to find a download of all .inf based drivers from the internet, but i have no idea what to do with them. Tried installing by right clicking, nothing happened, on things like the camera driver, or the battery.... I am not sure what I should be doing to get this back to a workable state... there is no backup, and no restore point, I have no idea why the latter was turned off...

I really don't know what to do, any help will be appreciated

Steven

Solve : What is aoxdxipl.ax??

Answer»

Hello!

I do not know very much about computers. However, I am learning many interesting things from this site.

Question - aoxdxipl.ax - system says - enabled but not working properly. What is it and how would I fix it?

Question - I ran a dxdiag (learned that here). When I did the test, a box popped up - Your SOUND card does not support hardware buffering. Sounds will only playback from software buffers. - What does this mean?

Thanks - elbib

computer info - system (2000 Prof.), Direct X version 8.1Quote

aoxdxipl.ax

Seems like a driver to me, did you uninstall/install drivers for any hardware component lately?

I am not too knowledgeable regarding soundcards, but if you have not yet done so, return to your DXdiag soundtab and then proceed to Direct-X functions.

From there, move the Acceleration of hardware sound slider to 'full acceleration'

This might solve the problem of your sound card not supporting hardware buffering.

Normally, this should allready be at 'Full acceleration'
I did as you suggested, but the same box came up.

The following were in the note section of the sound test.

- The file viaudio.sys is not digitally signed, which means that it has not been tested by Microsoft's Window Hardware Quality Labs. You may be able to get a signed driver from the manufactuer of the hardware device.

- DirectSound test results: All tests were successful.

Is having something 'SIGNED' important?

Thanks - elbibI am not very familiair with 'signed' drivers but it does not affect performance in any way.

I believe this is Direct-X way of showing you that problems might occur because the driver manufacturer did not test them properly with that version of Direct-X.

Correct me if I am wrong.

About the 'SIGNED' thing - I'll take your word for it!

About the aoxdxipl.ax - Would you HAPPEN to know what driver it is? Do you know what those letters stand for? I haven't unintalled anything. I hope!

Thanks - elbibI cannot tell you specifically what type of driver it is..

Judging from the websites that google has showed me as a search result it seems concern a USB port driver or device.

Thanks, Raptor.

I will look into things regarding USB ports.

Thanks - elbibPerhaps you can recall when this file first showed up? Do you have PROGRAMS running certain programs?

Do you require it for something?I came to this site hoping to find out why I have terrible sound when I play movies (DVD's) on my computer.

I started reading some of the posts and began poking around my system looking and checking things out when I saw it. I thought maybe it could be the cause of my sound problem.

Thanks - elbibWhat type of soundcard do you have installed?

Did you install the proper drivers?VIA - I think. (Looked under Sounds & Multimedia in Control Panel)

The computer was given to me. How can I check?

Thanks - elbibEither go through the paperwork that you (assumably) got with the computer or open the case, unplug the power, demagnetize your hands and move out the soundcard. See if there's a name or a number printed on it. Or perhaps a sticker.

Unless you have an onboard soundcard, in which case you could perhaps see what kind of soundcard it is by inspecting your mainboard or going through the BIOS.

Did the person who sold/gave you that PC not supply you with any CD's or diskettes you haven't used yet? If so, please inspect them.

This might help solve your sound problem, I donot know if your aoxdxipl.ax error has to do with your soundcard.

ALSO, when and how did your sound degrade? My husband gave me the computer. I will ask him. I was hoping it was something I could fix on my own, but I think I better TURN it over to him and watch.

I want to thank you very much for your help. I have learned a lot from this site.

Thanks - elbibCome back if you have more questions.

Thank you. I will.

Thanks - elbib

Solve : Print spooler sevvice not running?

For no apparent REASON the printer SUDDENLY stopped accepting print command and brought up the
JAKE.......For starters , how about telling us just a bit more......LOL and if the problem is with a printer , post the problem in the hardware section ......unless you KNOW the problem is with the driver. Also knowing what operating system you have and the make and model of your printer would be a big help.

Solve : PIONEER CD ROM DRIVER?

Answer»

HOW CAN PLAY AUDIO CD IN PIONEER CDROM DRIVE IN DOS MODEFirst you would need DRIVERS for your CD rom drive. If your Pioneer CD Rom follows the STANDARDS of CD-Rom drive TECHNOLOGIES (sometimes not the case with very old drives) then you can use any generic cd-rom driver.

Make a Windows 98 boot disk. If you boot with that and it actually STARTS up your CD-Rom, then you will be fine. All you would then require is a dos program that can play audio CDs.

If the Windows 98 boot disk doesn't detect your CD-Rom, then go try poking around on www.pioneerusa.com.

Solve : Troubleshooting Bluetooth Headphones?

Answer»

I find BT MADDENING. Sometimes previously-connected devices automatically reconnect, sometimes they need to be forcibly reconnected, sometimes they need to be dropped and re-added...

So anyway.

I bought a pair or earbuds to dedicate to my PC for Zoom calls. Paired fine, but:
* Sometimes you can't hear anything when "Headset" is selected but "Headphones" is
* Sometimes you can't hear anything when "Headphones" is selected but "Headset" is
* Sometimes what I'm hearing turns into a robotic mush
** Sometimes that fixes itself if I swap from "Headset" to "Headphones" or vice versa (But it is embarassing on calls to tell people to stop talking)
** And when I say "sometimes" I mean four or five times in a one hour call

Sometimes - whether I'm on a call, or just sitting here minding my business with the earphones in - they'll just drop and reconnect. (That creates a mess of issues with other software, but one thing at a time...)

I tried unpairing and repairing several times. Then it got to the point where only ONE earpiece would pair - a few times it was just the right, now it's just the left.

So I threw away those ear buds and bought a more expensive pair.

Same f$%!#ing thing.

When I listen to music, my BT speaker never drops, never gives me trouble. But obviously I don't want that for Zoom.

My wired headphones never give me a lick of trouble - but do tether me to my PC.

Before I start deleting stuff willy-nilly in DEVICE Manager, is there anything really to do? Or is that just a function of BT on a three-year-old PC?Hi

On your computer if you check in device manager what version of BT is it reporting. Also is the BT built in or a USB dongle?.

Another way is download Speccy from here https://www.ccleaner.com/speccy

Run the program , then select from the file menu publish snapshot, then copy the URL to this site for a check over.

Built in:

I've spent hours trying to get this to work. So frustrating.Have checked the Marvell AVASTAR bt radio and people are having problems with ADAPTERS which use that chipset.
I would buy a USB adapter and disable the internal adapter.

something like this Edimax BT-8500 Bluetooth 5.0 Nano USB-A Ultra-Small Adapter
or TP-Link UB500 Bluetooth 5.0 Nano USB Adapter

A google search in your area should show where theses are available. Ugh. I'll stick with wired headphones or my phone if an external BT is the only answer.

Thanks for the research! (Did you just google "marvell avastar adapter problems" or something simple like that?)Yes correct about the google search.
Not knowing the chipset of the BT adapter meant the reply was very general. The speccy report would have given the chipset and other data which could have given a better diagnoses.
I feel like I used Speccy once here years ago and was scolded - that the Piriform stuff dresses itself up nice but...I understand your concerns. There is so many possible causes for a computer problem it requires a lot of QUESTIONS which the speccy report answers in 1 post, you are only posting a link to the report. Looking back at some of your other posts you copied parts of the report and in one CASE the whole report which floods the channel and is useless. The report is HTML which is easy to search, copy to google searches . For your issue I would be checking 10's of things in the speccy report to find a solution.
Oaayyyyy... Don't know that I've ever "flooded" the channel with a Speccy report - just my sparkling wit...

Solve : Help!! (DVD/RW drive problem)?

Answer»

Ok, about a month ago I had to system restore the computer - no problem.
SOON after, I was attempting to burn a DVD and realised that the DVD drive had not been installed since the restore, so I installed the drive and the Pinnacle burning software that CAME with it - again, there was no problem.

However, soon after, I opened pinnacle to burn a DVD and when I put the DVD in the drive and close the drawer, the computer restarted.

Ever since then everytime I put a blank DVD or CD into the drive the computer restarts and continues to restart until the disc is removed and when the computer opens up again, a message appears saying "The computer has recovered from a serious error." When I try to send the error report, it says that the report was corrupt and could not be sent.

Normal DVD's or CD's work fine, it's only when a blank disc is inserted.
The only thing that worked so far for DVD's is disabling the device, inserting the disc and then enabling it. That works until I try and burn to the disc and then it restarts again.

My Computer says that the drive is a TSST corp CD/DVDW TS-H552B if that's of any importance.

Anyone have any idea what the problem could be?!?

(Ps, Sorry if this is a stupid QUESTION or I'm missing any important information..I'm only 11 years old!!)

Try REINSTALLING the drivers and the burning software.
If that doesn't help, you could try system restoring again.

Try the first one first though and post back before you system restore A roundabout suggestion but here goes...
Use Add/Remove to un-install the Pinnacle Software...
Then go to Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager and find the DVD drive...right click it and select remove...ignore the warning message and re-boot.
This will automatically re-install the drive.
DLoad and install CDBurnerXPPro ( FREE ) and try a burn with it ...if it works good. You can then try re-installing Pinnacle Studio...

Solve : USB works on and off?

Answer»

Ever since I re-installed XP my USB ports don't usually work; From TIME to time they seem to "kick in" but most often they dont. Now this sounds like a hardware problem, but I am sure it is windows based (my computer dual boots to mandrake Linux, which still utilizes USB perfectly). I cannot install SP2, which I have been told may repair my problem, so I am at a loss. I cant install sp2 b/c I have zero internet service, hence my need for a USB flash drive to move data around. I checked out the DEVICE Mngr where a yellow question mark sits beside my USB and my SMbus icons. I read that this was indicative of a MISSING chipset installation, so I went to ASUS.com and ran the most recent chipset tool for my board; Now one question mark no longer accompanies my SMbus, whereas the USB icon still has a yellow question mark next to it. I am right out of ideas and I would really appreciate any input this community may offer. Thanks : )Consider this: Order Windows XP Service Pack 2 on CD.

What is the exact MODEL of your motherboard? The question really is why can't you install SP2 ? ?
It is a major system upgrade not just a security patch as others would call it...

Is this an "ahem" version of XP by CHANCE ? ?

Solve : flash drive blues?

having additional problems w/ a imation 1 gb flash drive. back around april 4th, i removed documents from it, formated flash drive as FAT32 & moved all files back to the flash drive. last night when i tried to save a document onto the flash drive i got a message that thumb drive is write PROTECTED---anyone know how to fix this?

my second PROBLEM is i lost a key document i had saved on the thum b drive. the correct document name is there but when i open the document it is a different document. is there a way to retrieve the document under the "imation disk manager III" on the flash drive, or on the c drive under temp FOLDER? thanks! Some of those thumb drives have a switch on them for write protection...beware they are so tiny you will have to examine the unit very closely.

Trial Period Data Recovery

I used this tool recently on a finicky drive and it worked rather well...

p.s. Do a complete search of your hard drive for that filename as it was probably on the machine at one point in time...Patio, you recommended I "Do a complete search of your hard drive for that filename as it was probably on the machine at one point in time..."

after COMPLETING a search on the local HARDDRIVE, I found 2 filed w/ same name but when I try to open either pc tells me 1) that the f drive is not accessible, this folder was moved or removed (the thumb drive is the f drive) for the file in folder: "C:\Documents and Settings\myname\Recent" , or 2) that the drive or network connection that the shortcut refers to is unavailable for the file in folder: C:\Documents and Settings\myname\Application Data\Microsoft\Office\Recent". any other ideas how i can retrieve it? any idea how to retrieve a missing file on the thumb drive? thank you, dedei lost a key document i had saved on the thum b drive. the correct document name is there but when i open the document it i did a search on c drive without success. i called imation today & they told me the imation disk manager III is password protection software but not data recovery software. is a different document.

is there a way to retrieve the document under the "imation disk manager III" on the flash drive? or from the c drive?

Solve : DVD RW Install?

Answer»

Afternoon Folks,
Simple question I hope from a simple mind. I was given a DVD RW from someone & never messed with one before. No software, just the hardware. I installed just to see what would happen & nothing not EVEN the D: logo in "my computer" so I put my CD rw back in for now. I've done some searching on the net, including here on CH with no luck finding drivers.
I'm running an older Dell with 450Mghz, 160mb ram, Win2000pro.
The DVD is an OptoRite Mdl. DD0401. The website LISTED for them is just a jumping point to different DVD sellers. I thought 2000 would have a generic driver, but I guess not. The dvd was manfg in 2003 if that would make a difference. ANY Help appreciated!!Is it found in the BIOS ?
There is a lot of information at the below site.

http://www.cdrlabs.com/reviews/index.php?reviewid=215&page=InstallationIt must be jumpered correctly and seen in the BIOS. If so, then Windows will recognize it. Any DVD use will require software for functionality.

Optorite is not a quality name, but it may be functional. You don't need special drivers. If it was jumpered the same as the CD-RW drive and installed on the same IDE cable as the CD-RW drive had been, it should show up unless it was a dead drive. Maybe you discovered why it was being given away free.

Mind you, with a Pioneer DVD-RW 112D on sale in the UK at £21.14 plus delivery, who needs to play around with old junk? You could soon waste that much in coasters. (That price is less than a 5 pack of Verbatim DVD+R DL disks)

OK THANKS!
I had put it in an old CTX & it would work the CD part at least, & yes in the Dell I had it jumpered the same & on the same cable as the CD Rom.

Street1 I hadn't CHECKED the bios, & that website is all I could find with ANY info on it, plus the name of the Mfgr.
If it doesn't work nothing lost, but I try all the freebies first then go the money route!! I'll try it again later, trying to get a linux system SETUP on that old CTX right now!!
Thanks Again! No problem,No need to junk an item you can use,or send to a friend.

One persons junk is another persons treasures.

Exactly how many years is "a few"? Optical drives aren't KNOWN for their long lifespans. To FIND out if it is the drive swap it in to a known working machine and see if it does the same THING...if so it's the drive.Quote from: nathan3013 on May 12, 2007, 11:13:30 PM

I'd advise you to uninstall the one's you currently have INSTALLED and install the appropriate one from this page. You would be best served by using the driver from your motherboard manufacturer's page for that specific model.

Solve : Slave hard drive problem?

Answer»

Hi:
I have three hard drives, one master and two slaves. I also have only two unused IDE cables therefore I can only have two hard drives at once and not all three. The problem that I'm facing is that last time I opened my computer and changed the connection between the two slave drives and when I turned on the computer, on "my computer" I had the drive C (master) and drive D (slave). When I open D the drive was empty well visually empty but PHYSICALLY full. Last time that I used it I remember it was full but now it is like the FILES are here but not here. I can't see them but when I right CLICK on it and go to properties it gives me that the drive is full. Any help to get my files back would be nice.
Thank You in advance.
And when you right click on that drive in My Computer and choose properties what is everything that it says? Were these slave drives ORIGINALLY formatted NTFS or FAT32? What VERSION of Windows?Sorry but everything is back to normal thank you for your input anyway.Sometimes we are just that good.

Solve : Failure of videos to show image after updating catalyst drivers on Radeon X800?

Answer»

Hi there,

Recently updated the graphics card drivers on my computer to 7.4 because just got a new game, first in a while (C&C 3 - pretty good!).

Anyhow, although the game works fine I can no longer view my home movies. They load up fine and play, even giving the correct sound, but don't show any images. The screen expands but then stays blank. Having just updated Winamp, still using the free version, I thought that might be the cause but the problem persists in RealPlayer, Windows MEDIA Player and Winamp. The only video viewer not affected is Quicktime.

Any suggestions/other people suffering the same problem?

jamesTry reinstalling your codec package. If that doesn't work, follow this procedure to reinstall your drivers.

1. DOWNLOAD the drivers, but do not install yet.

2. Uninstall the old display drivers via Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel.

3. Restart.

4. Install the new drivers.

5. Restart.

This will perform a clean install of your Catalyst drivers. Thanks for your suggestions. Reinstalling the drivers, after uninstalling them, worked a treat.

Thanks again,

jamesYou're welcome, glad I could help and thanks for posting BACK.

Solve : Is it DOA? I need a crash cart STAT!?

Answer»

Opps sorry thought I was back at work for a min lol. Ok I have SEARCHED past topics and tried a lot of the info I found on there. So I just need a second opinion before I bury this thing.

I have a Toshiba Satellite running Windows XP Home Version 2002 with service Pk 2. Today I got a new software program and when I tried to load it into my computer NOTHING happened. So I went into my drive manager and there is the yellow exclaimation mark on there. I checked the properties and it says that

Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device

Which of course I did the troubleshooter, checked with Toshiba for driver updates, checked Windows and Microsoft for updates, rolled back my driver and ummmm.. I think thats it. LOL then like the typical air head I can be I decided I would just do a recovery on my system. DUHHH the driver isn't working, I can't back up my system or run the recovery disc. So is it a lost cause? Call the Cyber Morgue? What drive is the drive manager reporting as faulty ? ?

Code 39 is usually related to CDRom devices...certainly not a reason to trash the machine.

If it is in fact the CD/DVD drive right clik it and select Remove or un-install and re-boot.Oh darn! I thought I put all the info down, lol was so proud of myself.
It's my DVD/CD-rom driver.
The part that is showing right under the driver says
HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4243N

Not sure what that is, when I tried to find it through Toshiba it says that there is no such thing. Thanks Patio, I did as you said and it still isn't working. Wonder how these things do as freesbies! Is this the original drive that came with the laptop ? ?

If it's over 3 or 4 years old it might be the drive itself that is failing.

First thing to try is to power down the machine, unhook all power and remove both the CD unit and the battery. Let it sit for a few minutes and carefully hook everything back up. Re-boot and see if it works.

If not the only way to find out if the drive has failed would be to try it in another Sattelite or have a shop look at it. I don't recommend a shop they might charge more than it's worth just to test it.

Let us knowThank you Patio. My laptop is about 2yrs old but still under warranty. LOL I always get the super deluxe warranties when I purchase TV's or computers. So I guess that will be what I'm doing this weekend.

I'm kind of afraid to take the drive out only because I'm afraid of voiding the warranty. Thanks again Patio, I will let you know what happens. You're more than Welcome...Good Luck this weekend.Well just a little update. I took my computer into the Geek Squad and they did something so that my computer would reboot with a disc. So I was able to do a complete restore on my computer when I got home. He said it was the driver software and could have possibly been caused by a virus or spyware, since I didn't add or remove any programs.

At lest now it is working and stuff. I did lose some programs but oh well I will just load them back and start over again. THANK you again for the help!I would like to hear their version of this.I agree.

If there's a phone # we can harangue them into telling us the full story...

tamisgem, GLAD you're fixed up.

But it seems like they will say just about anything.I agree that they just talk to make themselves sound good a lot of the time. As a matter of fact he was very surprised at the fact that I was able to figure out going to the toshiba site to find out if there was a driver update. LMBO hey I may be a girl (old one too!) and I may go for the sparklie stuff but I can figure basic computer stuff on my own. GESH!

I think I will try to either call Toshiba or someone to find out exactly how my driver was corrupted. If anyone has any other ideas please let me know. I did have to remove a virus about 3 wks ago but when I restored my system I would have thought that would have cleared up my driver if the virus caused it. So it has to be something else.

Thanks again y'all,

Solve : Is there any way to fix this firmware??

Answer»

Hi,

I recently bought my first CD burner. It's a SONY Spessa USB Plus CRX100E/X2 drive. I found out that it can't quite burn an entire 80 min/700MB disk, but that there is supposedly a firmware update that fixes it. I downloaded a firmware update program from Sony's website (found here), and flashed the drive with the default firmware file (CDRW0008.BIN), but it didn't seem to do anything except change the driver to an EEPROM driver. I switched back to the original driver, and it was as if I had never done anything...

The firmware program CAME with another BIN file, ZERO.BIN, so I tried flashing that. I guess that was a mistake, because now the drive doesn't work at all - it's recognized as a "non-specific QT processor with JG". I tried changing the driver back to the original again, but this time Windows won't use it. It just says that there are no compatible drivers for the device. I tried to flash the firmware with the program from Sony again, but now it doesn't recognize the drive as being compatible, so it won't flash it.

I was hoping to get some support from Sony, but they informed me that I would have to pay more than I paid for the drive in the first place to get support. So, I hope someone here might have an idea of how I can fix it. That is why the smarter people here do NOT recommend firmware or BIOS updates lightly. You can END up with a doorstop and no recourse. If the product is still under warranty and doesn't do what is advertised, take it back for a return or replacement with something that does.Yeah, I should've known better than to flash some random file to the firmware... I've heard about the dangers of firmware flashing before, I just didn't listen.

Well, thanks for replying.Just return the drive and tell the people it 'stopped working all of a sudden' I don't think that would work very well since I bought it on eBay, and left positive feedback a few days before I broke it.

Actually, I was able to salvage the drive. I noticed that the drive was just an IDE drive in an ENCLOSURE, and the firmware I was flashing was the firmware for the enclosure, so I took it apart and installed the drive internally.

Solve : lost my installation cd for my printer?

Are you downloading your driver from that page? Did you select the proper OS? What is your OS? Try downloading it again; does the same thing HAPPEN? Are you on dial-up?

You could try downloading a driver from somewhere else, but you should try to get the Lexmark one to work, as we know we can trust it.You don't say if you have a dial-up or high-speed connection. Do you have a friend that has high-speed that could download it for you / had this time-out problem before?

Solve : GeForce 6200 driver problems?

Answer»

I have a dell PC with XP home SP2, 512mb Ram, 2.8ghz Pentium D onboard video and a new GeForce 6200 graphics card.

I have upgraded from a GeForce 5200, which worked fine. Both are PCI models, not PCI-E.

I removed the 5200 and installed the brand new 6200, booted up, logged into windows (In a strange resolution) and installed the driver from the CD supplied. When I rebooted, POST went fine as did the windows loading screen, but then the screen went blank. If I blindly type in my password and hit enter, I can hear the windows startup sound. This happened every time.

My bios only has options for Auto or Onboard. I changed to onboard and swapped the monitor lead to onbord video connector. Windows loads fine, I can log in etc. etc. using onboard video but the graphics card still just gives a black screen (The monitor still has a signal, so no 'Stand By' mode) after login.

Still using onboard video, I unistalled the driver I had just got of the CD, went to the Nvidea website and installed their latest driver, but I still get all the same symptoms and nothing has changed.

Please help. Sounds like you have a little driver contamination going on.

While using your onboard video, uninstall all the 5200/6200 drivers.
It is often not a one-step process, I'll post a link that might help.
You can either use the drivers that came with the new card (probably older but stable) or use 84.21
The 6200 likes 84.21

If you decide to use 84.21, just place it unzipped, in a folder that you can locate later. Write down the file name and location and then during the install just point Windows to it.

http://www.techsupportforum.com/hardware-support/video-card-support/151528-stickies.html
In the first post there is a link to the 84.21 drivers and also the very useful Driver Cleaner app that helps get rid of driver remnants after the basic uninstall phase.

With Driver Cleaner make sure you understand what you are telling it to remove.
Having said that, do you backups, set a Restore Point etc.

Thanks, for that, looks useful.

I don't have access to this PC at the moment (I will soon, I'm at the wrong house) and I will try that. I thought that maybe by default the graphics card is set to too high a reolution, so that on startup the monitor can't show DISPLAY it? If so safe mode should boot...just a guess, going over all possibilities.

I was using Nvidias 93.71 driver. The card is distributed by a company called PNY, and as nvidia don't support their graphics card (Rather, they manuacture the chips which are then used on the card by a different company) I'll have a look at their drivers too. I'll download the one you pointed me to and burn them all onto disk for when I go over along with that driver cleanup utility.

One more thing, the owner of the PC (It's not actually mine, I am just slightly more technically minded than he and therefore I am doing this on his behalf) did not uninstall the old driver. Because the 5200 is no longer in device manager, I can't uninstall the old driver. Do I need to find a way around this, or would the driver have been automatically replaced with the new one, or will it get cleaned up with the driver cleanup utiltlty?

Seeing as I can't check right now, anyone have any more suggestions so that I can do it all at once when I get there?

Edit// Is there a freeware alternative to driver cleaner.net? Yes, typically when dealing with video card drivers, one goes to the GPU (CHIP) maker's website.
This should be an easy fix, sounds like the 93.71's simply got installed on top of whatever the 5200 was using.
In hindsight, the 6200 in all likelihood, would have run on the 5200's drivers

No, you don't look for 5200, but rather its drivers.
The links that I PROVIDED will clearly illustrate how to do this.
The driver will not be auto-replaced with the new. That is your problem.
Loading one video driver without cleaning out the old is a no-no when dealing with the same GPU mfr's drivers. They become corrupted.

Driver Cleaner is freeware (donationware if you like).
You are at the wrong site if they are asking for money.

Be CAUTIOUS with Driver Cleaner, esp. if you have other nVidia drivers that need to be left alone, such as mobo drivers.

If you're not comfortable with DC...
Using Add/Remove (in Windows), you can get most of the driver(s).
Then you can do a simple search and delete the remnants from there to the Recycle Bin.
This is not as thorough as DC, but it allows a do-over from the Recycle Bin (with the "remnants") in case you screw up.

Solve : Video card gone??? Can't play music/games or get online?

Answer»

hey, i was updating my video card driver (geforce4 ti 4200) and I went into add/remove programs to remove my old DRIVERS. I think I removed something else (it had NVIDIA in it) and the computer said it must restart. When it restarted, my screen was adjusted so that part of desktop was off of the monitor. I then discovered that I could not get online and that my updated driver I had downloaded for my graphics card would not install (could not locate any drivers compatible with your hardware). Now I do not know what to do. I am using an ASUS a7n8x motherboard that uses nForce 2. Perhaps I uninstalled something relating to nforce?? The Direct X Diagnostic Tool lists no information under DEVICE and under drivers it lists the vga information. Under notes, its says the system is using the generic video driver. Please install video driver provided by the manufacturer hardware. I no longer have my asus or nvidia cd so I cannot use those. In Device Manager, there is no listing for Display Adapters and almost everything with NVIDIA in it (such as NVIDIA nForce MCP Networking adapter or NVIDIA nForce2 AGP Host to PCI Bridge) has an ! by it. Also, I am using an AMD 2600+ processor on windows xp professional. Well thanks for your help guys I really need it!it sounds like you deleted your chipset drivers heres a link to a site which has drivers for your motherboard http://www.nforcershq.com/article24.html good luck!hmm i tried installing 3 different versions of the chipset drivers (I am almost 100% certain that you were correct in this is what I removed) but it begins set-up goes to the INSTALLATION wizard and then crashes to the desktop. I tried using Driver Cleaner and then I CLEARED the registry with Reg-Seeker but nothing seems to work. It just keeps crashing at the same point no whatever what version or how many times I try to install. Well any help is appreciated.Have you tried System Restore? Alsways good to have a restore point BEFORE you make a major change just in case. Can you open Device Manager? It's surely going to show some yellow triangles, some unknown devices. You might try correcting your problems by starting from within Device Manager. In other, initiate driver installation/update from Device Manager and keep at it until everything there appears normal. If you did in fact wipe your mobo (chipset) drivers, you can get them here :
http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us
Enter all the appropriate info in the fields to the right.

The file you need will be under the Utilities tab, after you make all the entries.
NOT BIOS Utility !
It will be named something like "nf2v116_wxp" and be of about 16MB in size.
But again, VERIFY everything before selecting your download.

Also if you have have your mobo's driver(s) CD you could use that instead.

Solve : CD Drive Broken??

Answer»

Last week i tried to play a music CD in my laptop but it would not play. It also does not play CD ROM's. It does however play DVD's fine. I have done a lot of ripping music recently but not much burning. I have tried a number of different discs but the problem remains. I have also tried re-installing the driver for the CD drive but again, no change.

Are there any other things i could TRY? Have I buggered the thing? Do I need a new one? Anybody out there that can help, please?Well Markyp, I know you're new here but I am afraid we need some more information.
Information such as:
1. What OS are you using
2. What CD Drive do you have
3. What laptop are you using

That should be fine for starters.CDRom's and music CD's won't play...but DVD's do. Sounds like the optics have failed. Some DUAL purpose player/burners have 2 sets of optics one for CD formats and one for DVD's.

A new DVD burner can be had from newegg for about 40 bucks including shipping.i would have to agree with patio on this one ive had it happen twice once to my pc and also my aunts 2 completely DIFFRENT pc's. i also like to shop at newegg!

P.S. sorry about the death of your drive Let US have a moment of silence...

Solve : sometimes reads cd's and dvd's but other times wont?

Answer»

i have a toshiba qosmio g10. Sometimes it reads cd's and dvd's fine othertimes it wont read them and when i try to access it through my computer it says: D:/ is not acessible. the request could not be performed because of an I/O device error. I was just wondering why this happens and can it be fixed.
ThanksWhat OS are you using?
Have you checked inside the PC to MAKE sure the cables haven't come loose?
Have you tried downloading the latest drivers?
How old is this computer? Its 2 years old (feb 05). no i havent checked inside the computer because its a lap TOP and i DONT have keys. Not sure about the OS. and have not downloaded any drivers scince ive had it, never had any problems before this last week.o by the way as far as i know its never been dropped. and its fairly WELL looked after.Eject the drive and carefully clean the contacts with a QTip and rubbing alcohol...ALLOW it to dry for a 1/2 hour.

Re-seat the drive and see if things improve.

If not and the machine is older than 3 or 4 years that drive may be failing. This may or may not apply, but have a read here...

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/891894ok well i try that and if all else fails i'll get someone else to take a look at it

Solve : compatibility of cd installation disc??

Answer»

Hi

someone gave me the desktop board

Intel D865GBF with P4chip

and it had some problem,i sent to service and after some time they gave me a replacement board .

Intel D865perl

They seem identical only with minor DIFFERENCES,one less PCI etc..
The thing is i dont have an installation disc for this board.I have the original disc for the first board,do you think it will work the same or i have to look for drivers?
On the disc i have, it says ONLY IntelD 865 GBF and GLC.
But there are other models of same chip. What kind of stuff is important on these discs? The reason i ask is if it doesnt work i WONT spend to buy some other stuff i also need to build a computer work.Or is it easy to find drivers for this board,so i can go on and build the thing?
Don't use the other disk...

Courtesy of google on .013 Secondsthank you for your help.i'll use these files and i hope it works.

there is one file,

QFE for serial ATA,

that one has to get from SP2.
Do you know how i can get this file without installing SP2?i tried installing SP2once and i had problems.
You need to have SP2...if you had problems before it's probably due to incorrect drivers.

DLoad and install SP2.
Then DLoad and install the correct MBoard drivers the link points to.
Do this after dis-connecting from the WEB temporarily with your anti virus program de-activated.

Re-boot and re-connect to the web and DLoad all the CRITICAL MS updates and restart your AV protection.

Good Luck.thanks again for your help.I bought a used P4 2.8 chip and fortunately it all works fine!!!!It all cost me 120$.I'm happy with the results.Only i may buy
a newer graphics card the one i got is geforce MX440.But a friend who sold me most of the stuff says i wont see any difference with a better card due to the PROCESSOR.

***STOP: 0x0000007B <0x8186B6B0,0xC0000032,0x00000000,0x00000000>
INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE

What does this mean.I think im RUNNING dual BOOT Windows2000/Windows98.This happens when trying to start up.

-Thank YouThis Stop message, ALSO known as Stop 0x7B, indicates that Windows 2000 lost access to the system partition during the startup process. This ERROR always occurs while the system is starting and cannot be DEBUGGED because it generally occurs before the operating system has loaded the debugger.

Try the resolution here and see if that works for you.

Solve : Driver For Gateway Wireless Optical Mouse?

Answer»

I picked up a Gateway wireless optical mouse, Model # MR-0350T, with a receiver Model # RR-0403U, at a computer show. When I connected the receiver to my USB port, my computer began the new hardware recognition process. I realized I did not have 2 AA batteries for the mouse and aborted the INSTALLATION process. After I picked up and installed the batteries and reconnected to receiver to the USB port, the new hardware process did not automatically commence. The light on the mouse is lit. However, I cannot get the mouse to function. I do not see it in Device Manager, and have not been ABLE to find a way to install it. I tried dicsonnecting the receiver, rebooting and reconnecting the receiver, without success. Apparently, I must obtain the specific driver for this mouse in order for it to function. The Gateway site does not have a driver for this mouse. Does anyone KNOW who manufactures this mouse for Gateway, and where I can get the driver? My OS is XP Professional.Run the new hardware wizard or USE the 'display hidden entries' in Device Manager.

I was thinking the same thing a few hours ago. It SOMETIMES seems like it takes three or four of US to give one answer. Heh.It sometimes takes 3 or 4 posts to get enough information to work with as well. Quote from: GX1_Man on April 16, 2007, 11:47:42 AM
