okay so heres the thing: i have a Intel DR767 mother borad with a Pentium 3 slot 1 prosser at 500MHz 512MB of ram a 10GB HDD with an A Vortex sound card and an integrated nVidia RIVIA 128ZX video card. when running in Windows 98 my DOS games (like Tyrian 2000) run full speed full framrate with complete sound. but when i upgraded this comouter to Win2k suddenly i lost everything the framrate got choppy the sound vanished and it wont detect my joistick now WinNT doesn't seem to respond very kindly to Windows 95/98 games, try using Dosbox. well when i use DOS box i have to mess with the cycles/milisecond before i can get a SMOOTH framrate for like 2 minutes just top lay the game once

oh also Tyrian 2k is a DOS game but i cant figure out how to install the sound card drivers correctly for the ISA sound card i have. the software says it detected the sound hardware and Tyrian detects my Microsoft Sidewinder Pro 3D joystick attached to the Game/MIDI port but when i plug the speakers in THERES a whole crapload of static and you can BARELY hear the sound through the staticQuote

Maybe someone can help me out here. I went out earlier today and PURCHASED a Geforce 9800 GTX. After installing it I now get no sound whatsoever. I'm quite puzzled by this. I've always used the built in SOUNDCARD on my MB for sound and have NEVER had issues. I checked my device manager and it says EVERYTHING is working fine. And also my Winamp crashes everytime I load it ever since I put the NEW card in. Any ideas? Here's my system specs:

-MSI K9N SLI PLATINUM mother board
-AMD Athlon 64 x2 4200+ CPU
-2GB ram
-160gb HD I've seen cases, where installing nVidia card messed up the sound.
Try to reinstall sound driver.
If no help, uninstall nVidia, reinstall sound driver again.
You have to juggle around a little.

Can someone please help me out here? I'm getting this error, need to shut down pc manually, then microsoft is TELLING me all KIND of stuff I really don't UNDERSTAND what they're saying.

The error is for a display driver.

I don't KNOW what information you need for me to give you so you can help me out here.

I like to burn TV shows onto re-writable DVD's so I can watch them on my TV. I have had no problem for the last two years, but now when I put in the disc my computer will not read it. When I click on the DVD Drive it just pops the disc out and says please insert disc. If I use just a writable disc....not re-writable, it works just fine. I only have a problem with the re-writable ones. It is a little expensive to use non re-writable DVD's, I live in Germany and watch ALOT of TV. I dont know what the problem could be. Any Help would be greatly appreciated. I have a Dell computer...I am at work now so I do not have the specifics.

Other than that swap the drive into another working machine and see if it does the same thing ...if so it needs replaced.
They don't build them like they used to.I actually CANT use another type. I live in Germany on an Air Force Base, and they only carry one type. I dont think that the one's off base will work in my DVD player.The PBX only sells 1 brand of blank media ? ?

I have had a LOOK to see if my question has been asked and it does not appear so, If it has and I have missed it then my apologies.
Basically I send CNC programmes to my machine via a DNC link. The link is from COM Port 1. I had no problems with it until I had a new server fitted. The problem is that if I reboot my computer and then want to send a programme via DNC link I have to disable and re enable COM Port 1 otherwise it wont send, or should I say it appears to send and goes from 0 to 100% in say HALF a second but NOTHING has actually sent at all.

OK, I have a 500G external hard drive that I run all of my programs off of instead of my ancient 512mb 80g Sony Vaio (it's been a great computer, though). Well, as of last night, for some reason, my external drive has been MAPPED as the H drive! All of my info is still on the external, but my programs are all linked to the G.

I googled how to remap the drive, but when I go into the admin tools, computer management, there's no drives listed in order to select which ONE!

I'm so confused not to mentioned lost cuz NONE of my programs will run! Somebody please help! tks...

Right click My Computer and select Manage then Disk Management...
You can re-assign the drive letter there...
Unplug any flash drives and/or card readers when doing so.

Be Careful and make sure it is the correct drive or you could MUCK things up even worse...

I am having trouble convincing my laptop that my CD-ROM exists. A few weeks ago my mother pulled it out without safely removing via the computer and it has been "missing" ever since. The device manager has a ! next to where my TSSTcorp CD-ROM TS-L162C should be under the DVD/CD-ROM drives. I have tried uninstalling it, then re-installing it, I have tried updating it, and I have tried to use the safely hardware technique and putting it back in. All of these things have done nothing to correct it. I could use some help on what to do next. Any input WOULD be appreciated!Have you tried re-installing the MBoard drivers from the laptop's Driver CD ? ?To be honest, I don't know how to do that and I didn't know that was an option. Could you explain in layman's terms how to do that and what it will exactly do to my computer? The Driver CD that came with the laptop will contain a file called Setup...normally with an icon.
This will re-install all the Drivers the machine needs to run properly.
Re-installing them will not harm anything but if it is a missing/corrupted driver it should cure the ISSUE...I found the CD for Drivers and Utilities for my computer (luckily I didn't throw it away), but my computer doesn't realize that it has a CD drive, so I can't access any CD I put into my computer. Is there any other way to force my computer to realize I shoved a CD into it?Try one of these:
1. Uninstall the drive through Device Manager.

Hi. I have a HP a000 computer. Last NIGHT there was a power outage and now my computer will not turn no. No, I did not have a power surge protector. The LED light on the back near where the power cord PLUGS in blinks when the computer is plugged in, but I get no response when I hit the power button. I've tried switching plugs and everything. Does this mean my mother BOARD is fried or do I just need to replace the power supply?

I'm going to bet its your mother board.. But if you have a Volt meter you can test the power supply.Some PSU's have protection for this some don't...
Remove the power cord and toggle the PSU's power SWITCH a few times.
Replace the cord and see...

I just installed XP Pro with SP3 and I was installing the driver for the motherboard (Intel) and the computer crashes during the install of the driver. I tried installing my older version of windows XP Media edition and the same thing happened. If I don't install the ethernet driver the machine runs PERFECTLY (but alas no internet). I even downloaded the most recent version of the driver from Intel website and it crashed with that too. Any suggestions? Could this be a hardware issue (my machine was working fine until I decided to upgrade to windows Pro)

It'sa copy of XP. I used to use a similar copy and if buying the real full version is the simple option then I will but I have a feeling it MIGHT be more hardware related. Hope not though.

If you dint have the disk, then your computer manufacturers website should have the drivers available for download.

Did you just install windows?
If not, did you make any changes to the computer's hardware or software prior to the driver problem?I never had problems before, but then a friend wiped the computer. I'm not sure what happened... I know that my SOUND doesn't work now though.When a machine is wiped so are all the drivers...you will continue to have issues until you locate that MBoard Driver CD that shipped with the machine...

select your OS...xp I assumed...start with chipset drivers first..then video, audio..etc.

after installing them and removing all your yellow ? under device manager make sure you do a windows update...

It seems that every other time or so that I boot my computer, the mouse does not load. If I reboot, it usually loads WITHOUT a problem. I have tried searching the forums, etc. but it seems most issues are with the mouse not loading at all.

I have an HP Pavillion, running Windows Vista. The computer, mouse and the WORKS are about a year old. I have not upgraded anything recently to cause hardware or driver conflicts.

Any help would be appreciated.Can you try another mouse?I would suggest updating your mouse driver.

1. Go to Control Panel--> Double-CLICK "Mouse" to open Mouse PROPERTIES.

2. Click the "Hardware" tab-->Click "Properties".

3. Go to the "Driver" tab--> Click "Update Driver" and follow the instructions.

Hello, I'm not sure I'm on the correct forum? My old computer has a dvd slot, it will play a cd but not a dvd. I thought dvd players would play both.

The computer is an old Del. XP home edition-- the hard drive came out of a newer computer, I don't know if that is relevant, the computer works fine.

The dvd is text not movies or music. I didn't know if there was free software, I might be able to download, all I want to do is READ the info on the disk. when I try to run the dvd, a MESSAGE pops-up, saying maybe disk isn't formatted, the computer can't read it. This disk will work on other computers but, if it won't work on mine, I can't use it. Any ideas. thanksI'd open the system up and report back with the model# of the DVD READER such as Hitachi 506B etc so we can know exactly what we are up against. Also...does Windows show this as a DVD or CD drive in My Computer? If it says CD Drive then Windows may think that it can only handle CDs or infact maybe this drive is not DVD? I have seen some combo drives misread the DVD / CD-RW drives in which Windows thinks that the hardware is a CD Rom and not a DVD Rom... Make and Model of the specific drive is needed to assist you better.Thanks for the reply.

I went to (my computer) link, there is a box that says dvd. When I try to run the disk, the lite is on for the driver for several seconds, when it goes off, the TITLE under the dvd box switches to cd.

Just built a new Media Center computer. No matter what I try I get absolutely no sound from the rear ports or headphone jack on the Motherboard.

I do have HDMI and it is working but I am not sure where to go.

The sound software from the Motherboard installs fine and Windows shows the sound software installed and all drivers working. The Realtek sofware even shows the little sound waves coming from the speaker arrangment.

The thing is there seems to be absolutely no electric power 'hum' from the the ports in the back when plugging and unpluging - even though the Realtek HD software manager shows the plug that has just been inserted/taken out.

The HDMI sound is great running through the HDTV I am using for a monitor, but the Realtek is supposed to be 8.1 channel, etc.

I sent a help request to Elitegroup but who knows when they will reply.

Tried reinsalling drivers very carefully, etc. Checking Realtek SITE, Elitegroup Site and Vista sound help site. Not much help.

This is a newer board but I haven't seen any other complaints about this board or this chip so I figure I must be missing something.

Any suggestions would be great, other than this problem - the setup is terrific. Did you install Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio First before you installed the drivers?

Thanks for the reply. The UAA device is definitely not listed in Device Manager. I have uninstalled the Realtek drivers and am downloading the exe now.

A couple things that are curious: Why would this driver not be included in the Vista Home Premium OS CD? And why would Elitegroup not provide this essential driver on the MB CD?

I picked up a OneTouch 4 (Maxtor External) but it will not run on one of my computers, the one I picked it up for. Error message reads that the equipment is not recognized and I am using Windows XP. I checked and updated the USB port and bus drivers. No problems and all is functioning. The external drive works excellently with all other computers I TRY it on. I phoned Maxtor and they place the blame on the computer and I find the support from them is not very good once you get past the endless sales screens, which is a shame as they offer a nice component. Given the POOR support I thought I would throw this out to the forum with a prayer. Hi,
I have something called a IntuixUSB PC Camera (WebCam to me!), I have used it on my work PC (installation was very easy) & I am now trying to USE it on my laptop.

I have the User Manual, Installation CD & the WebCam - obviously!

When I INSERT the CD, it makes a few noises & nothing happens. So, I follow their instructions: Start > Run > D:\Setup.exe - and I get an error message:

Windows cannot read from this disk. The disk might be corrupted, or it could be using a format that is not compatible with Windows.


So...I went on the Search for the Drivers - not easy because this this doesn't appear to have a Model Number. But I found something and downloaded the Zip file to my desktop and then extracted the files.

The good news (or so I thought) is that the PDF manual with the drivers is the same as mine!

In the Driver folder I clicked Setup.exe and the set up process starts correctly - until I get a new Error message:

Please update your XP Version to Service Pack 2

I thought this was strange - Auto update is on. So, I found out how to check and I already have SP3 - no problems there!

There are a load of other folders that came with the Driver I downloaded, but my extremely limited knowledge is now exhausted, and all I know is the WebCam doesn't work!

Finally, even though it tells me not to connect the Camera until the Setup finishes - I plugged it in the USB. It is recognised but 'New hardware Wizard' can find nothing.

Help!!

I managed to sign up, but I couldn't find the driver I needed. The manual is so vague, and there is no model number - all I have is 'IntuixUSB PC Camera', and there is no entry for that.

As I said, I think I have the correct Drivers sitting on my Desktop, but I am GETTING this strange error about the Service Pack.

The primary partition needs to be set as active for a normal working Windows install so unless this was done it will not work...

IN device manager I have the choice to DISABLE

I have dbl check to make sure both drive are enable in BIOS
Booted in Safe mode
Booted to Last Know good config.
UNinstall both drives in device manager window and rebooted/ restarted also tried a SYSTEM restore.

Unfortunately problems like this arrise when being MS Guinea Pig with BETAs ...They plan on people like you reporting issues to them to fix bugs as part of the Beta program and save them from vigorous testing expenses.

Your registry is likely hosed and STILL has junk from IE8 corrupting IE7. As for MS likely never planned for anyone to downgrade from IE8 to IE7 so its likely a sloppy uninstall with junk left behind.

I'd backup your important data and reinstall Windows clean and wait to install IE8 until the BETA is finished or there is a critical need to have IE8's features. I'd stick with IE7 the stable IE for now.I have my drivers CD.... is their a way that i can make it run?......

However upon restart only the working CD Driver showed up (TSSTcorp)

Every time I put a CD into my computer, it starts to read it and then my computer shuts down. It doesn't matter if it is an audio CD or and computer program. I don't know what to do. I've TRIED reinstalling the CD drive, but that didn't work. The external hard drive I have been using is no longer recognizeable or accessible. it used to be listed on My Computer as "my K Book" but now just is listed as Local disk (K:)
Previously I had been trying to run DVD Shrink using files from K (external drive) to burn to DISC but it kept coming up with i/o error.
Now I can't even access my K book at all and if I try, it too comes up with K: is not accessible, i/o device error. Was it UNPLUGGED without using "safely remove hardware" ? ?

I have a Toshiba satellite LAPTOP about 2 years old. Out of warranty. All 4 usb port stopped working. Any device (ipod, thumb drive, camere etc) plugged in gets the message device not recognized. I check for drivers and it says all there. A friend and I determined it was probably the chipset on the motherboard (he determined that for me). My question is if i GET a PCMCIA to usb adapter, should it work if the chipset thing is bad? I just need to be able to attach my devices to laptop and can't afford to replace the chipset (or whatever it is called) Didn't want to order the adapter if it wouldn't work anyway. Any advice will be great. I did read the other threads and have basically DONE everything advised there. To make sure it is a bad chipset i'm afraid you would need to take it to a shop to find out SINCE it's a laptop...
Go to Device Manager and right clik ALL instances of USB roots and hubs and select remove/uninstall...you will recieve a warning...ignore it.
Upon re-boot they will automatically be re-installed.

If this still does no good try re-installing your MBoard drivers from the Driver CD that shipped with the laptop...

Try all the above options before you take it to a shop and/or buy a PCMCIA card.

Well if you just did a clean install you should still have all of your data backed up.

I am installing Windows XP onto my Fujitsu Seimens Amillo Laptop. It had Windows Vista Home Premium installed but then i wiped it using KILLDISK..

After that, i have been using my old laptop to MAKE a Windows XP CUSTOM Boot Disk. I installed nLite to make it. i followed the instructions. coying the Windows files. Blah blah blah.. then i got to the drivers bit.. i went on the Fujitsu Seimens website . and downloaded the SATA Drivers . The problem is it ends up as a .EXE file which i dont want! i want it as a .INI file so nLite can detect it.

I dowloaded WinImage to try and Convert is as a Virtual Driver. so then after i can turn it into a .INI file.. but when i START converting it its got up to 99% then just stopped i left it for over an hour. I have tried s many different things but i just have lost hope on life and need help... please any WOULD be appreciated :]

My comp runs microsoft xp. I have a "c" drive (which contains my os) and a "d" drive (which contains nothing) I would like to know how to set my comp up where all my programs are on the "c" drive and all my files, documents, music, video, etc. go onto my "d" drive AUTOMATICALLY without having to think about it each time I save something. I am fairly knowledgable w/comps, but idk this oneYou can't. You will have to manually move what you want over to D drive.
I suggest moving all your pictures and videos (all your media) to D drive and leave C: FREE for your programs and Windows OPERATING System.

Note: Do NOT move ANYTHING from C:\Program Files or C:\WINDOWS.tweakui can be used to change the folder windows uses for My documents and so FORTH.

i have a wifi usb adapter & need the driver for windows xp,the only thing i know about it are at the wifi usb written "cnet" so i think that could be the brand, and when when i connect it to the usb port it detected as "marvell wireless usb adapter" and asking for driver to continue.

They are universal and quite EASY to install however i would suggest having someone who has done it before you assist since it's your first time...

It just occurred to me that the CDs I can't play now, after system repair operation I mentioned in the beginning of post, are MP3 format. So, maybe the ability to read this TYPE of file was lost after system repair. Where do I look? I read a LITTLE about codecs but I am not sure, like I said I am a novice. What player do you use?

I won't go back over signs and symptoms but check the posts below and if anyone has a clue send me a hollar. At this point I am left with the only option of phoning the company again and/ or being resigned to the fact that the Maxtor OneTouch doesn't work with all computers (would be acceptable if I had a Twiddle-Dee-dum Comp Corp computer but this is a HP RUNNING XP). Great to take to work. It is flawless EXCEPT with this one machine. Patio, on the other machines I get the standard desktop icon and toolbar icon, functions well, I get a drive letter assigned and it is great. For the other machine it might as well be a brick on a string. No rhyme or reason.Also, Laska, I don't always use HDD's because the material I save is so large that the programs, even when broken to components, are to large for a disk, and they don't seem to compress enough. That is the control factor put into a lot of items, keeps them from being "shared". I'll have to check out flash drives when I loose my patience with this machine and the poor support received.Yup Yup Yup, There's something wierd about HP and external drives no matter what brand I always WONDERED if it was the slow Bus speed but anything Iv'e used on a Flash drive has been OK for now

I recently installed xp professional on my compaque COMPUTER. It originally had vista basic. The hard DRIVE now says i have used 106 gb of my 110 gb on my hard drive. The problem is I only have one progam loaded and it only takes up 1.5 mb. How can this be POSSIBLE?Did you format the drive?

You do REALISE it's only a 4GB Difference.... Windows XP can take up almost 2GB.System RESTORE points...
