Solve : GeForce 9600 GT drivers won't install?

That board does not support SLI.

Ouch...Quote from: patio on October 17, 2008, 04:10:29 PM
BTW Where the heck have you been ? ?
You know, I'm not too sure myself . . . I made the foolish assumption that it supported SLI because it was included on the newegg search for which I had chosen SLI as one of the filters. The instruction manual had a page for ATI Crossfire and then another page for "Multiple Graphics Cards". I hoped that they had merely been unwilling to pay nVidia for the rights to us "SLI Certified". After much frustration I came to the result posted by Calum.

That crummy board has been replaced with an EVGA 123-YW-E175-A1 LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 750i FTW SLI ATX. It's sweet. The board's not crummy, it was just listed wrongly on the site.
For future reference, any board that does not have an Nvidia chipset (exception: Intel Skulltrail, and upcoming X58) will not support SLI.
Sorry to see you got misled by the description, but at least you know now.Well, the board was crummy for another reason. Newegg refunded the price because the onboard LAN was defective. Quote from: Eg0Death on October 20, 2008, 12:31:24 PM

At least you got your money back so you could buy a SLI support MB!I just bought a 9600 GT nvidia and shows as GENERIC VGA under display adapter. the disk that came with it wont work to install it. Ive installed the best drivers i could find from nvidia and it still wont read my video card. MAYBE im using the wrong driver. if you have any links to driver downloads that you know work or any advice it would be much appreciated. nitelife2989, start your own thread, don't hijack other threads.clearly the post above cant read... i have the latest drivers and wont work the disk i got is a xfx disk (came with the 9600 GT card. it tells me that it isnt a xfx card and nvidia says it cant find any software to match my hardware any advice.Sorry, nitelife2989. This is nto your thread. It is easier to start your own because you won't get any false information(and you won't have to deal with posts like mine and quantos's) why start another one exactly the same, i figured there is one and they have got some ideals already on how to fix it so why not give it a shot and maybe get my video card working. but apparently no one knows anything about my prob so you tell me to go else where. thought this sight was help for everyone not just you.Quote

You know, I found the same thing when searching for video cards on NewEgg for another thread. I had specified certain features (2 VGA outputs, or 1 VGA and 1 DVI) and found a few listed in there as not fitting that. Given the number of things they sell on there, it's not surprising there are mistakes.

Sorry, this particular thread is for this person's particular issue. You're more than welcome to try the solutions presented here, but if they don't work for you, start your own thread specific to your own issue and we will gladly come help. This prevents confusion with trying to solve two potentially different issues in the same thread, regardless of how similar they might seem. Solve : No active Mixer Devices, Very Very Frustrated?

Answer»

OK WELL I've done just about everything anyones ever told me to do to fix this problem.

the other DAY my computer was attacked by a virus, i got RID of the virus, cleaned out everything it did, that's fine, now everythings working but the sound.

I noticed when i went to play a game id bought, it was rather agitating. Ive attempted to update my drivers, reinstall drivers, and so on (on-board sound on a ASUS M2N SLI mobo). I have also ran the services.msc and made sure that windows audio was started, and is started AUTOMATICALLY, even set it to restart 3 times after it fails. The C-Media CM6501 Like Sound Device Driver IS installed on my computer, from disk, and even tried from the site, It is there, and in Properties, it even lists audio devices, MIDI Devices and Instruments, And Mixer Devices All which i have chosen to use on this device.

I have also tried installing Realtek Drivers, which are also up to date.... I am at a huge loss at this point and i have no idea what to do to get my sound working, and seeing as i use my computer as a gaming rig, sound is rather important to my gaming experience.

Any ideas or help would be much appreciated, as i have been going absolutely crazy attempting to figure out just what could have went wrong here.

Solve : How do I identify USB 2.0 Ports on PC??

Answer»

I would like to know how to determine which physical ports on a PC are USB 2.0, or enhanced, and which ports are standard USB ports.
I'm running Windows XP SP3, when I use my Epsom R300 printer, I sometimes see a message bubble that says, in effect, my printer would print faster if it were plugged into a USB 2.0 port.Do you have it plugged into a USP hub or port replicator?Hi

No. I just want him to see that content of the page. Not necessarily to send him to apple. Fair enough.

I must admit that I was quite surprised to see MS support on an Apple site though. That must really grab Steve Jobs by short and curlies.Perhaps I wasn't clear. I have two ports on the front of my tower type computer. There are two ports on the front and four ports on the back, presumably attached directly to the motherboard.
I don't have the motherboard manual, as Karnac suggested (thank you, by the way). I looked at the apple website and I didn't see any thing new to me. Looking at the Device Manager doesn't tell me what port to plug into. I'm looking for a simple method to identify the physical port. Do I plug in, say a jump DRIVE, then LOOK at the Device Manager for a connection? Is there a freeware/shareware/purchased software program that would identify the types of ports? I have asked my company's geeks this question and no one I know can find an answer.
Thanks for the help and replies.
TundrawalkerIf you plug a thumbdrive in- windows will complain if you plug it into a 1.1 port. It won't say anything if you plug it in a 2.0 port, however.Try Everest

You'll also be ABLE to get a motherboard model.

http://majorgeeks.com/download4181.htmlIf you see the message that the device can run faster then that is a 1.1. port.Bet my bottom dollar the rear are 2.0 and the front are 1.1....... Quote from: Tundrawalker on June 25, 2009, 02:07:53 PM
I sometimes see a message bubble that says, in effect, my printer would print faster if it were plugged into a USB 2.0 port.

Usually if you see this message, you've plugged the device into a USB 1.1 port. Or, in some cases, this means your motherboard CHIPSET drivers are not installed.

Does your motherboard have on-board video and, if so, is it disabled in the BIOS?right now i have a 9400GT INSTALLED works perfect. just basically putting a bigger better video card in.Ok, then did you uninstall the driver you used for the 9400 before attempting to install the 9600?i didnt delete it the first time i tried to install but after trying several times i went in and completly removed anything with a nvida tag and tried from scratch. then i went to nvidia site and installed the series 9 drivers (with the 9600 installed) it didnt work. so i put my old video card in (9400 GT) and that worked just fine. so the drivers were installed. but my PC is neglecting to read my 9600 as nvidia or xfx Perhaps a faulty card.

You did plug the power cable into the card, right? Some people forget that.i dont see a spot for a power cable for the video card but it is running fan is spinning and a little red light is on\. is there another cable im missing? and i hope it ISNT a faulty card because i cant return it.Quote from: nitelife2989 on June 27, 2009, 11:32:43 PM

Look at this page:
http://www.legitreviews.com/article/666/4/

See the back end of the card? There's a 6-pin plug there. There should be a 6-pin power cable coming from your power supply specifically for PCIe cards, or you'll need to use an adapter that converts 2 molex plugs into the 6-pin plug you need.well i pluged that in and the red light went off lol i will try installing the software again.

Solve : NEED HELP to bring my comp back to life?

Answer»

I have a dell dimension e510 which i bought 4 years ago. My computer crashed bad about 2 years ago and I had 3 techs out to fix my comp. Everything was replaced in this thing EXCEPT for the hard drive (i still had a warranty). I decided to get a hard drive at Fry's due to the fact my comp still didn't work after multiple tries from techs. I purchased a hard drive from Fry's with the rep assuring me it was the correct hard drive. I put the hard drive in correctly and put in the operations disk..... all i get from my monitor is a - - - - - - at the top left corner. Am I missing something? Can anybody shed some LIGHT on this? I'm about 1 step from tossing it 50 feet from concrete.

thank youDoes the machine now have 2 hard drives or one? What model and IDE or SATA drive? It's a seagate 640gb sata. 1 hard drive. You have to install Windows on the new hard drive. Right now it's "blank" (empty).I used the operating system disc and after is was formatting the partitions my comp said a file was missing. So i exited the set up and it automatically rebooted. When my computer restarted it was just a black screen that says "NTLDR is missing" and the only option I get is to RESTART again in which it will say the same thing. You are replacing an old hd with a new hd and want to install the OS on it - is that correct?

If so, first make sure you are using an original, retail OS CD. Then boot to that cd, format the drive, and install the OS.

Are you following that procedure exactly? That is exactly what I'm doing I am using the OS disk dell sent. It doesn't get pass the copying point it will state that a file can not be copied.Quote from: fortytozero on April 25, 2010, 01:15:20 PM

Solve : BIOS ACPI Setting (something POST) locked me out of BIOS SetUp.?

Answer»

I FLASHED my BIOS, so it might be some different. But here's the specs...
Intel D845GRG, Version AAA81583-304, Serial ABRG32219313...
BIOS RG84510A . 15A . 0057. P19

I changed a setting trying to maybe enable ACPI, but didn't work either.
It was under the Power Catagory, seems like it was a POST setting and maybe video. Could be I just know that from video takes 4-5 minutes at POST. But I'm pretty sure it was a POST setting. Can't boot from a boot disk for some reason either, to get to DOS. ANYWAY the BIOS set Up screen never shows and I've tried pressing F2 at all different times still nothing except Windows at the User Account screen. Skips XP's start Up screen also. I tried Flashing Bios again thinking it might set it to default but flashed successful and it's just like it was.

I think it's sleeping but can't wake it. Searched near 15+ hours stil aint found the solution.

Thanks,What happens if you try F8 - do you get the option to boot from Safe Mode? (just to make sure it's recognising key input during boot up)

Have you tried any other key than F2 (Del, F10 & F12 are common keys).

Is this a laptop or desktop? Removing the CMOS battery can clear any unwanted settings and default it back to factory settings. The computer is a desktop. A Gateway E-4000 w/ serial number 0030341372. BIOS was RG84510A . 15A . 0037 . P15 It is now R84510A . 15A . 0057 . P19 (BIOS Date 08/21/03) The ChipSet from a BIOS Info program says Intel 2560 Rev. 3 BIOS Type - American MegaTrends Licensed to Intel. The system board is an Intel D845GRG, Version AAA81583-304, Serial ABRG32219313.

F-8 repeatedly durring it's start w/delay seemed to of stopped it from booting. I'm assumming too early stops it or delays it more. ctrl, alt, del does reboot it. But it may be timing it just right. F-2 repeatedly durring start up keeps the system from booting up. Thought it was maybe in bios, so tried F-9 (I think enter) in case it ask for confirmation then F-10 and enter. Because it does ask for confirmation. But I tried assorted keys at start up (esc, tab, F-12, F-1, F-11, alt + tab, ctrl + esc, maybe delete). I also tried a Diagnostic POST card to watch for possibly timing it right. Tried too many different keys, instead of trying F-2 at multiple times.

I've done tons of searches, about 10-15 hours at it. Tried the CMOS jumper (except putting it in recovery). Left the battery out over night but I think I left the power on, so might not of helped. I've reflashed the bios, it COMPLETED succesfully.

There was only like 2-3 settings in there. I changed one. I think it said something about video and post. But I aint sure if it was enable / disable type setting or how many choices after I expanded the item. I do remember it said something about post, and might of said something about video in the explanation on the right.

Do I need to set the jumper also to clear or reset, while the battery is removed?

Thanks for the help.Remove all power to the machine when removing the CMOS battery to reset the BIOS...
It's also good to hit your power button a few times in this state to discharge any stored energy...

I have to ask though ...why did you flash the BIOS ? ?
This has produced many expensive doorstops...Yes I flashed the BIOS. I'm using that computer now, to type this. But it takes about 4 minutes to start from power on. I don't get a screen at start up to press F-2 to enter BIOS set up. It also skip the XP start up screen. The video is doing something extra, I think at POST. The setting I think that messed it up mentioned POST. I enabled it and now I got no video till the computer is ready to log in to Windows.

I've tried to put a boot disk in to get the C prompt, I was going to try some internet debug ideas from a search I come up with. No C prompt after waiting the usual time either.

Computer runs fine, but some setting in BIOS I changed keeps it from starting with video, I think. The setting was under the POWER (Tab), it said ACPI above one of the two or three changable items. As if they were all ACPI related. The one I changed related to POST when I expanded it to look at it. I think it delt with video.

Gateway might know, or MPC who seems to of aquired this perticular version. I'm just holding on till I have funds to call and ask. Or buy the out of warranty warranty.

But the computer is fine. Except I can't get in BIOS since the screen is black either when it comes on or it skips it. Hoping it's just a black screen, video is off while it's starting up. It'd just be a matter of catching it at the F-2 pressing time. I aint tried that many times.

Thanks, Forgot... I flashed BIOS to try and make it Vista compatable. I tried installing Vista and once it almost did, but hung. Then I formatted the drive to make it clean and fresh. But messed up installing, it installed XP Pro as a standard computer. Wouldn't upgrade from XP since it wasn't ACPI compliant. So I flashed the BIOS to upgrade it. Didn't work, and was trying to enable something to possibly change it from Standard Computer. Though I've read once in Standard it can't just be turned back on. I hate these "i flashed my BIOS" stories as they normally don't have a happy ENDING....
Start by contacting the manuf. for a replacement EEPROM chip which is the only way to get back to square one.
You will need to take it to a local Repair shop as it is not a user friendly repair.
Best of Luck to you...Was the setting changed AFTER the BIOS Flash?

i don't know the problem of my computer, it always hangs up when i turn it on, it also automatically shuts down and is very slow processing..... please help me restore or reboot or even reformat my computer so i can start WORKING again with my computer..

Solve : "No Disk Entered" AW NOT AGAIN!?

This happening to me again! On my old computer (and I mean OLD) a Windows 95 the CD-ROMS stopped working. The sound also didn't WORK so I though that might have something do do with it, since some game require a sound card. Now I got a Vista and just a few months after I get it the CD-ROMS stop working like the 95. The were working a few months ago and one day they just stop! The sound works, but when I put in a CD-ROMS and press "Play Game" a little window pops up and says "No Disk ENTERED". Please help me out.
Are you trying to run Vista on old hardware meant for Windows 95?

If I am misunderstanding your question, please let us know, we are happy to help. When I first got the computer I installed Roller Coaster Tycoon 1 (which is for 95 or 98) and it worked. Then RCT2 (which is for 98 or XP) and that worked too. Then when i try to install RCT3 which is the latested version of RCT and should work, nothing happens! And now all of the CD-ROMS don't work work! Not even the one I already installed! Please help me.How old are these optical drives ? ?
They certainly don't make them like they used to.
Brand new dual-layer DVD burners are about 30 Bucks shipped from newegg if you are in the States.Knowing more about your computer will probably come in handy.
Could you post the specs or a brand name and model NUMBER?
And does the problem only occur with some discs or with all?
Do music cds or DVD movies work for example?Music CDs and CD-ROMS both stopped working and the DVD slot refuses to open. GATEWAY GT5670. Has anyone had this problem before? So in other words you can't even get the drive to open? Or do you have two cd/dvd drives? There is 2 drives, but I haven't yet tried to watch any DVDS on my computer because I just play my games.I see the PC in question comes with a DVD burner.
How about the other drive? How old is it?
Is it the DVD burner or the other drive that isn't working? The 1st drive which is for CD-ROMS , and music CDs and things like that will open, and when you put in the CD-ROM it say that it does not detect the disk. And Im not so fimilar with this new burner becuase I haven't burned a CD for a while, not since CD-ROMS were working on my old computerHow old is is it?We got new around this time of year last year.Check the wiring...

This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system. (Code 12)

Diagnosis
Two devices have been assigned the same input/output (I/O) PORTS, the same interrupt, or the same Direct Memory Access channel. The assignment was made by either the basic input/output system (BIOS), the operating system, or a combination of the two.

Resolution
This error message can also appear if the BIOS did not allocate enough resources to the device. You can use Device Manager to determine where the conflict is and disable the conflicting device.

Forget the Driver Wizard...it's useless.I did go to the dell printer website and thought i downloaded the drivers . When i go to install them it then goes to Internet explorer can't find website etc. What printer are we talking about here ? ?
Dell doesn't make printers.Get the drivers here. Ok so i went to techspot and downloaded info. Thank you for that, but now it still says it can't communicate with the printer. *censored*. Sorry Quote from: BetteBoop on August 09, 2009, 06:29:21 PM

Ok so i went to techspot and downloaded info. Thank you for that, but now it still says it can't communicate with the printer. *censored*. Sorry

Double check all your cables for the printer, make sure they are connected and that the printer is turned on.

Is the printer a USB printer or parallel?OK so i tried every suggestion that was given and i have to say some WORKED. I am very appreciative of any and all info that was sent to me. But i finally succumbed and called Dell. So to make a long story short, all this time my McAfee Firewall was preventing me from installing the printer. Isn't that what i asked in the first place? Anyway and hour or so later i now have my printer working fine Thanks again for all your help

Solve : NVidia Geforce 8300 GS Graphics card Problems?

Answer»

My Graphics card crashed my system today, After I did a reset I found i COULD not get to the login screen (It WOULD blue screen).
I restarted in safe-mode, DELETED the Nvidia driver then DOWNLOADED the current driver. This did not fix the blue screen PROBLEM. I then attempted to restore My computer to an earlier setting, Which didn't solve the problem. I then reinstalled window vista and that fixed the blue screen problem but now I'm stuck in 800x600. I've tried many nvidia drivers and they all come up with the blue screen. I did try a 3rd party Driver that solved both the blue screen problem and the 800X600 sizing problem but in all settings above 800x600 the screen had vertical yellow lines running across the screen.

Any help? Its fine running webpages on 800x600 but for gaming its pretty fail. just for checking...
If you use your on-board video card, are there any errors, is there a blue screen?
Amazingly, That fixed it.

Solve : dvd drive wont read disc's?

Answer»

gateway 500gr
dvd-rw drive will not read dvd's or CD's in windows media player BUT iTunes will recognize cd's.

i'm really trying to restore this computer with the restore dvd that came with the computer. the disc that deletes everything and reinstalls the factory drivers, applications and operating system.
but when i insert the restore dvd then restart computer the restore menu does not come up...just restarts the computer. any help??Have you reset the boot device to the optical drive in the BIOS?i should say i'm a beginner...

i dont know how to do that please explainIs this a FAIRLY new computer?no, i think build date was in 2005, it has windows XPHave you tried with a second optical drive that is known to be good?no i have not. with a dvd or cd in, the drive blinks a few times then stops. but somehow itunes will still allow it to rip songs...

i just want my 'restore dvd' to read so i can start from scratchany idea?Try the DVD player in another machine...10 minutes to swap in and out...
If it does the same thing then the DVD laser is shot and you need another drive...well just my luck lol
i got some nasty spyware last night and spent about 4 hours trying to get rid of it, end result: crashed! guess i need to get a new computer! or if the drive is bad i'll just replace that and restore the pcWe have a section devoted to just that...
Clik Here and follow the instructions at the Top of the page...Even with a bad infection, SCRAPPING the system is not required. At the most EXTREME, you just have to reinstall Windows. The affected DVD drive MAY well just be shot. It happens.

Solve : Computer won't recognize external optical disc drive?

Answer»

I have a problem with my external optical disc drive. I burn DVDs and after I copy the source disc, the disc tray pops out. That is fine because I put the blank disc that I want to copy to into the disc drive. However, I watch in my computer folder as the E: drive disappears for a few seconds, burning fails, and then reappears after. Any thoughts? Can we have some more info on hardware and software please mate.I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop and the external disc drive is Samsung SE-S084B (RLNS?) The drive worked a few days ago to burn DISCS but no longer works correctly. Thanks for any help I MAY receive. How old is the external ? ?
Try to burn on another machine to see if it's the drive itself...The external was made this year and I just recently updated the firmware.Quote from: patio on July 16, 2009, 07:15:35 AM

Try to burn on another machine to see if it's the drive itself...

Can you try it on another machine as Patio said?Quote from: steingr3 on July 16, 2009, 07:26:43 AM
The external was made this year and I just recently updated the firmware.

This may in fact be the issue...YES, firmware updates "just because they are available" are seldom necessary (and very risky!) unless you have a specific issue that the update purports to solve. MANY a good component has been turned into a paperweight.

This SI even more common with random Bios updates done "just because".

Solve : Marvell Yukon 88E8040 PCI-E?

Answer»

I'm doing a reformat on my laptop. Never done this before and its a slow process. I thought I had a disk with the right drivers and utilities on it, but it seems ineffective - I can't see anything on it that resembles the drivers I wrote down before I did the reformat.

I found a WLAN online to REPLACE the one I have, but I think I need to connect hardwire to my DLINK before it will recognise the signal wirelessly. The Marvell Yukon 88E8040 PCI-E is not among my drivers, is this the one I need to connect VIA ethernet to my DLINK, can I get it anywhere online - I can't find it - or is there SOMETHING else I should be looking for?Specifics on the laptop would be required for appropriate responses. Marvell PCI-E sounds unusual.

See the other suggestions regarding using Everest. You can download to a flash drive or a CD on ANOTHER machine and run it from there Click on Report and PRESS enter three times.

Solve : Abit Airpace drivers?

Answer» HI Everyone, I have an Abit Airpace (AW-GE870) wireless network adapter (PCI Ex1) & cannot get drivers for it. I did try to d/load from Abit but got a dialogue box saying Vista (64bit) cannot/will not use unsigned drivers. It works ok in my other PC (XP Home) Does this mean I have wasted my money on this card? Why should M/soft dictate which drivers to use? The utilities LOADED ok just not the drivers. I used Driver Detective to no avail also. Any help or ADVICE will be much appreciated.I believe in windows vista 64, Microsoft has disabled the use of non-Microsoft signed drivers so Windows will not use those.Install ReadyDriver Plus: http://www.tipandtrick.net/2008/permanently-turn-off-and-disable-64-bit-x64-windows-vista-forced-driver-signature-signing-with-readydriver-plus/Quote from: 2x3i5x on August 04, 2009, 05:22:44 PM
I believe in windows vista 64, Microsoft has disabled the use of non-Microsoft signed drivers so Windows will not use those.

Is there any citation for this? I'm curious for my own needs here. That's true. It should rather say "Microsoft has disabled the use of non-Microsoft UN-signed drivers"THANK you Broni for correcting my small error

So basically 64 bit windows will not use any drivers that do not have Microsoft's digital signature coming with it without the help of a third party tool ...Here you go THANKS guys.

Solve : Cannot find proper audio drivers?

Answer»

I recently reformatted my COMPUTER due to poor performance after getting some terrible trojans and malware that would not go away. I have reformatted my computer in the past before and obtained the proper drivers from a CD that comes with my computer.

However, when I installed all the drivers, with no errors, I still have no sound coming out of my computer. I have tried manually downloading and installing the proper drivers, (Realtek) but still no luck.

I've done the whole Start-Programs-Accessories-System Tools-System Info thing and I guess it shows I'm missing 4 things, b/c here's what shows up on Problem DEVICES:

guess I missed where everst told you about

if there are any known compatibility issues with your programs and devices, and windows 7..

especially device drivers/etc.

so your all set I guess...

what?basically-- what does XP mode have to do with anything? That has nothing to do with drivers, it's an application compatibility setting.

Basically it's exactly the same as all the compatibility settings we've had in all windows versions- the difference with Windows 7 is they add a teensy little change- it dynamically links that program with the windows XP version of uxtheme.dll, in addition to the other compatibility layers. Wow, congratulations, Microsoft, you managed to SWEEP everybody off their feet with a feature that is already present in windows Vista.

woops went off on a tangent there.I thought that would allow for any devices that are xp only to be allowed to use with it till they got drivers made for it. So its like how xp was then.Quote from: squall_01 on August 05, 2009, 06:04:42 PM

No. It's for programs. Not all MBoard/CPU combos support the XP mode in Win7...

And yes it's for programs...not devices.ah thats a bit of disappointment some what. Quote from: BC_Programmer on August 05, 2009, 05:45:13 PM

Solve : CD+R/RW driver "not found"??

Answer»

I DOWNLOADED the Windows 7 beta from Microsoft and attempted to burn the ISO file to a DVD with MULTIPLE softwares and receive the same error message: "Not found CD+R/RW driver!"
It was EITHER that message or the field where my CD-ROM driver name is located is blanked out...
But the WEIRD thing is, that when I insert a DVD or CD, the "What do you want to do?" action box comes up (asks if you want to burn the CD, make a music CD, etc.) but it won't show up in any fields or be recognized by software. I've rebooted and everything with no different outcome. The driver also shows up in the Device Manager......

I've read online that I should uninstall the driver and reboot, then the driver will reinstall, but I'm afraid that something wrong will happen...
So should I take the chance or is there any alternative(s)?Nothing bad should happen, all optical drivers are in essence on the Windows disk. Take a chance with it and let us know.Let's not mix up drive with driver.
Optical drives don't need any extra drivers in Vista.Or XP.or 2000/NTWe could really drag this one out eh?OK. Anything NT based. Amen...LOL AMEN You guys are hilarious...lol
But I did a system RESTORE; it completely reinstalled XP. FRESH START. I still have all my other files though...CD drive is working perfectly! BTW, I had to do an F11 (Gateway notebook) restore because I kept getting BSoD on each boot...even in Safe Mode...the last OS to need drivers for the CD-ROM/optical drives was windows 3.1/DOS...

heh, I dragged it out anyway. sorry about that.

Haha well I'm going by what I read on the Microsoft website lolMeanwhile................back at the Ranch...Quote from: teezy4life on July 22, 2009, 04:31:49 PM

Solve : total noob needs driver help. (everest report included) Thx!?

Answer»

Howdy gents. New guy here. Long story short I have a travel laptop that crached and I had to reinstall xp. I had to borrow a cd to do it as the recovery cd didn't work all the way. I got it up and running but now I don't have the option to use wireless and the video isn't working (like if I play a dvd) So I went to gateway and got all the drivers based on the laptops serial number.

THEN

I got everest and here is that report under the "computer" option. See below as it's long. I wasn't sure what you guys might need so there it is. I then went to gateway and based on serial number got all the drivers it said were an option. There were 9 of them. I have them saved on the c drive. Now, I tried to install one based on the instructions twice and it didn't work. What does that mean and what do I do next?

Thanks for the help!

Solve : OLD IBM SETUP DISK(Mod 30-286)?

Answer»

Anybody know how/where to get a copy of the IBM 'reference disk' containing the setup program for setting the cmos??More INFO...The old IBM PS/2 series computers did not have access to the BIOS via a KEY press at boot time, like modern computers. They used a utility on a floppy. Called a reference disk.

disk images and manuals and miscellaneous UTILITIES here for PS/2s...

http://ps-2.kev009.com:8081/selectpccbbs/

Model 30 286... (zip CONTAINS RAW disk img FILE)

http://ps-2.kev009.com:8081/selectpccbbs/mod30286.zip

or Google for IBM PS/2 reference disk

Downloaded and disk created. Will try tonight. Thank You is far from adequate, but I gotta say it

Solve : Does It Sound Complicated? Need Your Help Here?

Answer»

I formatted my Toshiba Compaq Presario CQ60 laptop computer and reinstalled Vista Ultimate on it only to discover to my surprise, that the Ethernet driver was missing. I visited the HP support website and browsed out the drivers download page for my laptop. I couldn't find any Ethernet drivers there. Loosing my calm now, a friend urged me to try the online customer care chat to help me with my problem. Following their advice, I downloaded a diagnostic tool called "EVEREST ULTIMATE" to really find out what make my laptop NIC was. I discovered it was an nVIDIA MCP77 Lan Controller (PHY: Realtek RTL8201CL/CP).

I googled and googled but couldn't find it. I then discovered that the said driver was a PHYSCEIVER (that is, a driverless piece of computer hardware). Further research advised me to contact the motherboard/ chipset manufacturer for driver support.

According to the diagnostics run on my laptop, AMD seems to be the company powering my chipset. The name of the model on m laptop is AMD K11 IMC. And guys, this is exactly where I am stuck!

I have googled and googled (thank GOd for Google at all!), but nothing.

Guys, can someone save me from this mess. Infact, am I on the right track?

I need your answers guys. Thanks a million!!!Post the Computer Summary portion of the Everest REPORT...You may need a chipset driver prior to the NIC driver. What is the exact model of the computer according to Everest? It's near the top of the report. (Click on "Report" and press enter three times. THIS IS THE REPORT OF MY SYSTEM VIA EVEREST ULTIMATE

Try Here...Hi guys! I finally got the solution to my problem. I checked up the motherboard manufacturer website and was able to download the chipset driver for my system. It was able to drive my Ethernet controller.

It was quite an enlightening experience, and I am so sure I wouldn't have learnt my way thru this without you guys.

3 CHEERS for you all!!!

I appreciate it thanks....."Toshiba Compaq Presario CQ60 laptop"

Just out of curiosity, is it a Toshiba or a Compaq?Well Compaq made Toshibas for awhile and in later years Toshiba returned the favor and built Compaq's...I don't remember hearing anything about that.Chipset driver. Just kidding Quantos.... Yeah....

I gathered that. I heard rumours that IBM was in the lemonade business, but got that entire division bought out by a local 5th grader with a "lemonaid stand". tragic really. they even tried to standardize the pitchers and glasses being offered. the industry didn't accept them, because they wanted a royalty to use the design, so they came up with their own. I think they called it "Extended Integral Solution Accumulator" or EISA for short.

Other stories tell the tragic tale of when Commodore tried to enter the CHEWING gum industry. so you had to choose from Dentyne Ice, Trident Citrus, Excel Wintergreen, or Commodore "chewy sweetened Chicle blocks". This was of course before they bought out KFC and RENAMED it to "Warm Dead bird"I think that was actually the 'Beta' lemonade industry, it was sponsored by Sony wasn't it?

Solve : copying for use in a CD ROM drive?

Answer»

I have an old Dell PC. It has a CD ROM Drive. I want to erase all the data on the hard drive of the old PC.

To do so, I would like to use a newer Dell PC to download software from the internet for ERASING data. This PC has a DVD+/- drive and a CD ROM drive. Is there a type of disk I could use in the DVD+/- drive to COPY the software onto, and then use in the CD ROM drive of the old PC?
If you have a Windows CD, you can boot from the disc and format the hard drive.

You can even hook the old hard drive up as a slave in our new computer and format from within Windows.I used a CD-RW. ...........So? Did it work or not?

If it didn't what were your errors?I checked with Dell whether a CD-RW was suitable for each computer. They said it was. It worked ok. I'm glad to hear that you solved your problem.

Solve : Gateway nv5214u drivers needed!?

Answer»

I recently bought a gateway nv5214u notebook from BEST buy.

I reformatted my drive (including recovery partition) to install beta 7. It finds all the drivers but some of them are generic and the system is buggy. I need to original vista drivers.

The catch: Gateway is undergoing a MERGER or BANKRUPTCY or something and has NOT updated their site for this product even though it's been for SALE for weeks (or even months).

I need the drivers for a vista 32bit install.
If you have this notebook, PLEASE help me out by using some utility to grab the drivers and zip them (archive) then upload them to filedropper.com or something.

It would REALLY make my life easier. The below link should be your drivers.Don't do the BIOS update.

Solve : Disc drive doesn't pick up the discs.?

Answer»

I ahve been USING this computer for a good 5 years and TODAY, when I inserted my Sims 2 disc, I thought it was odd that the autoplay did not show up. Then, I clicked the icon instead, only to find that my disc drive did not even pick up that there was a disc in it. I tried other games to see if it was just this one game that wasn't working or if it was every game that it didn't read - it turned out to be the latter. None of my games will run because the drive doesn't pick up that there's even a cd in the computer. Please help!

My System Properties:
MICOSOFT Windows XP
Home Edition
Version 2002
Service Pack 3

My computer is about 5 years old and is a gateway. It sounds like you need a new optical drive. But before you spend any money I would suggest opening the case and making sure that the cables for the drive are seated properly and that the Molex(power connector) are connected properly. Also TRY cleaning the laser if you have a cleaning KIT handy. Might help.

Cameron GrayDo what quatos said. Take the plugs out of the cd drive and then try to replug them in. If it still doesnt work, they are really cheap. You can get a dvd drive for around $20I have a similar problem I can't read dvds with my CD-rw\DVD ROM I installed a new drive and had the same problem. Now I know its software but have no idea how to fix it. HELP PLEASE?Try an audio disc / music CD. It probably won't work, but I'm just curious.

Have you worked inside of a computer? Are you comfortable doing so?

It is not all that terribly difficult, but it depends on your experience, and how you feel about it.Quote from: lostandfrustrated on July 30, 2009, 01:27:41 PM

Solve : Dell Driver Error?

Answer»

When trying to play the Sims 3 my computer displays an error saying my video card does not support Shader 2 or higher. Please update my card. I had a similar error occur on my other computer and it was easily fixed by Dell INSTALLING a new driver [[my ialrm display stopped responding..something I forgot the exact error.]] I figured I can fix it on this computer by installing a newer driver. However, when I try to runt the app to install it I'm GREETED by "Cannot install application. The application is missing required files. CONTACT application VENDOR for assistance." I TRIED chat with Dell but my computer's service tag cannot be found. Does anyone know what else I can do?
ThanksssWhat is the make and model of your computer.

Also I have doubts this will help if your onboard graphics fails to meet the requirements of the game.

Solve : Missing channel volume sliders?

Answer» Intro:

I moved my SB eXtremeGamer from an old to a new PC and, well it WORKS as expected, at least from what I can see

Problem:

My problem is the configuration, it doesn't show up right...

I open the Sound Configuration (I think it's called that) from controlpanel

Then I click Advanced and it says I have "5.1 Surround Sound"

But if I open the Speaker Volume, I see this:

Code: [Select]Left Volume: Silent --------|-- Loud
Right Volume: Silent --------|-- Loud
I saw this on the old PC when the card was in it:

Code: [Select]Channel1: Silent -------|--- Loud
Channel2: Silent -------|--- Loud
Channel3: Silent -----|----- Loud
Channel4: Silent ---|------- Loud
Channel5: Silent ---------|- Loud
Channel6: Silent ---------|- Loud
Channel7: Silent |---------- Loud
Channel8: Silent |---------- Loud
In the help file I found an index over channels in an 5.1 example (Correct me if I'm wrong)

Code: [Select]CH1 = Left Volume
CH2 = Right Volume
CH3 = Front Center
CH4 = Subwoofer
CH5 = Rear Left Volume
CH6 = Rear Right Volume
CH7 = Unknown/Unused
CH8 = Unknown/Unused
Since the 2 sliders I see controls volume for every channel I can't configure it as I want

I have tried reinstalling drivers, with and WITHOUT the card installed

Note: Both PCs runs WinXP, newer has SP3, OLDER has SP2 (Yes I'm gonna install SP3, but later)

What should I do?
Any help would be appreciated

Btw:

I don't KNOW where the problem is located but my guess is the drivers since the card works if I put it back into the old PC, so if this topic is misplaced move it please...
