For a while now whenever I try to install my motherboard drivers (Nvidia 590 SLI AMD). I get a MESSAGE stating I have drivers installed and need to remove them to complete the install. I went to Add/Remove Programs, and only my nvidia video drivers were there. Hi, I recently reformatted my Windows and I forgotten to back up my drivers. Well, I managed to FIND my video driver, but I just couldn't find my SOUND driver. I used PCWizard and EVEREST Home, and I managed to find something: "82801DB/DBL/DBM (ICH4/ICH4-L/ICH4-M) AC'97 Audio Controller". I'm guessing this is my audio device, and I need a driver for it. I tried going to driverguide and using google FREQUENTLY, but UNFORTUNATELY I just could not find my driver. Could anyone be so kind to provide me links to the driver? Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help solve an autoplay problem I have with my flashdrive. When I plug it in it normally should start up and ask to start Splash Screen.exe but it recently stopped working. Here's what the autoplay file looks like:

Does autoplay work for other devices, like CD/DVD drive?Now that I think about it, my other flash drives work in that drive but the LEXAR doesn't...Does that help at all?Can you check it on another computer?Not RIGHT now, but for more information, when I do plug it in it tells me it's a high speed device in a low speed port. Also, I can still run the autoplay by right-clicking the drive and clicking autoplay but the function where it would pop up and ask to run the program suddenly quit working. And the usb port has autoplay enabled. (Checked with TweakUI and Autoplay tab)Are you SAYING, that other Flash drives will autoplay, but Lexar won't?

I have a IBM Thinkpad T41P with windows XP service pack 3. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the usb hubs and controllers that did not work. I have tried the microsoft hotfix thinking that would resolve the issue but that as well did not work. I have 2 usb PORTS, everything is enabled and comes up as no conflicts or ERRORS. I have also WENT into BIOS and the usb is enabled. I do have a 2.0 host controller

I have tried connected my kodak V705 camera which will indicate its connected to the computer, a mouse, a blackberry and an ipod.
Have you tried this without Service Pack 3 ?

I reformatted xp with the recovery disc that came with my computer. After reinstalling windows I put the drivers and utilities cd in. So my question is, can I make a list of the drivers I will need to REINSTALL, or just back up my drivers. Or burn the specific drivers I need to a cd before install. You see, I had dell help me over the phone and they just connected to my computer and installed the drivers. I wanted to update my processor but when I downloaded the update and TRIED to install it, it told me to go to add/remove programs to uninstall the old DRIVER. If I uninstall the old driver, would the processor STILL work when I rebooted(because it teells me to reboot when it is UNINSTALLED)? Or will it be fine and when it reboots I can reinstall the new driver? Ne help would be much aappreciated!

I recently formatted my laptop with Windows XP. When I turned my laptop on, most of the hardware that I connected needed drivers. This includes my ETHERNET controller, my wireless adapter, my audio controller, my Smartbus card reader, my USB controller and my video controller (DIRECT from device MANAGER). I have no idea what drivers I need or even what the model and make are. I REALLY need my ethernet controller as it is the source of internet. I will provide any info need on request. I have a nero disc that may do the trick.

For the DVD-RAM I heard that You need a special
dvd disc that is different from a typical RW disc.
It supposedly has lots of rectangle looking images on the

And they are very expensive..
I can buy a dvd -rw drive from pricewatch cheaper than
one or two discs.That DVD RAM drive doesn't burn DVDs...

It is only a DVD ROM drive, but it can burn CDs.

Windows 98 should be able to detect the drive. However...in order to USE it to its FULLEST capacity...you'll need software and codecs in order for it to function properly...specifically for the DVD capabilities.

If your version of Nero plays DVDs, as well as play/burn CDs...then you should be in business.

Give it a go...and keep us posted...

What's the model of your motherboard?It would also help us if we knew the manufacturer and model number of your computer.a friend came by & dropped off a motherboard only, turned out to be a Toshiba V3100., Whatever that is. Can't find it on web.I do not have the history on this motherboard, nor do i know of its components., But the sound did work on it. Replaced desktop speakers. Microphone does not work either.The Toshiba V3100 is the model number of a desktop manufactured by Toshiba.

I just don't understand why windows says drivers are installed but have not been started. Confused and left out...Have you tried running services.msc from the Start/Run menu to see if the Windows Audio Service has been started?There are several items not starting, modules missing, start &stopping, windows audio says device not functioning., device manager states no problems....but have you tried restarting the Windows Audio Service? Missing modules...items not functioning...sounds like a corrupt operating system.

Have you tried a repair installation? Do you have any important items that need to be backed up?

To me...a repair installation and/or a clean install may fix the problem.

I can't seem too find a Win XP sound driver for a dell optiplex GX50. The below site, dell's site, has only windows 2000 drivers, yet, this dell has a Windows XP Professional sticker on it. I have no discs for this Dell. I have tried too find a windows XP driver, no luck, and the windows 2000 driver doesn't work at all. I need this driver because the one windows installed SEEMS too not work, I need too know if the onboard audio works or not, as this machine is going too be my TVR BOX. It was donated too my brothers collage, then donated too my brother, as the collage has no need for such off form FACTOR ancient machines. My brother gave me the dell for doing some work too his desktop.

My mum recently bought an ASUS EEE PC with linux operating system. The salesman also sold her a canon pixma mp210 and said it would work with the computer. When she asked me to install it I thought it would work as a plug and play and the drivers would install automatically when plugged in. This did not work. The printer was also not listed in the available printer list. The salesperson said that the computer was windows compatible. Does this mean that windows based applications can be loaded on or does this mean that windows os can be loaded on if linux is taken off. I guess what I really want to know is can I use the windows printer installation disc to install the printer? I have had no experience whatsoever with linux so I am in the dark. Can anyone help. Certain brands of Linux are sophisticated enough to install printers now, but an install on a Linux system usually takes a bit of work.

I've only been in front of an Asus EEE once. I liked what I saw, but I was told by the owner that the version of Linux was pretty basic.

I was at the Asus site earlier, trying to find more information about all this, but have not yet found it.

OK, I'm back, and more idiotic than ever!

If it's a Windows systems, salesman should still be ashamed. Yes, many, many DEVICES plug and play on Windows, because (for all Microsoft's faults) they've done a pretty good job of keeping up with drivers for devices, but there are so many different printers, and other devices, that Windows can't automatically run them all. The salesperson should have known better than to make a "blanket" statement that the printer would plug and play.

DEPENDING UPON THE VERSION OF WINDOWS ON THE ASUS COMPUTER, the Windows Vista/XP/2000 driver can be downloaded HERE.

There was no Linux driver for that model Pixma. HERE is some information about Linux compatibility with certain printers.

In the meantime, it's time for salesman-of-the-year to step up and make good on his word, or exchange the printer for something more compatible. (I'm not as Linux-knowledgeable as I want to be, but as a very GENERAL rule, I like HP printers for compatibility with Linux.)

In the meantime, I put out an e-mail to the person whom I know that has ONE of these and see what he did for printing.

I do not believe the Linux operating system will load the Windows driver.

Linux is much, much better at plug and play than it was even a few years ago, as the open-source development community scrambles to produce driver software that runs all the printers and so forth that are out there.

I do not consider myself expert, but I would've steered you to a basic HP printer; yes, the all in ones are lovely -- I probably would've tested the product line I had for sale to know which printers work with GNU/Linux.

Thank you again for your comments. I agree whole heartedly with you. It was the salesman's fault. My mum hasn't taken the computer or printer back as yet. She is still 'playing with the computer' and I really feel she will learn to love it. We are definitely taking the printer back though. Do you suggest that we steer clear of multifunction printers and just go for a basic hp. Epson was also one that was mentioned in the manual. I have been to both of these sites and they both have downloads available for linux. If she still wants to GET a printer and scanner combination, do you know if I would have to download drivers for printer and a separate driver for scanner component? (That is if the printer does not have a CD in the box for linux). Don't worry if you don't know. I can go to the websites and have a look myself. I just thought you may know. You should be able to get a driver set that will run the multifunction HP's or Epsons. I don't know much more than that, but you're on the right track.

I'm glad your mom's giving the computer a chance. I think it's a great little system, and I'm a BIG fan of linux, even though I'm currently using XP on my computer.

For the price, you may as well get a multifunction printer. Don't blame you at all.

I had vista installed on this computer, but it was too slow and i installed xp on it.
I got the drivers from fuijtsu siemens homepage, but the sound driver isn't working or is there some other problem?
I dont know if this matters here, but under device manager, i have a YELLOW ? at other devices - PCI device.

DriverAgent.com is not a free service.piaaz.....I followed your link, and I managed to find the version of the InstallShield engine needed for the two drivers, however, when I tried to load the engine , I got the following message :

I had to abort because retrying did nothing and when I ignored it and loaded it anyway, I would get the original error message when trying to install the drivers. I tried loading alternative drivers, none would get past that message. This may not be significant but, all the drivers that did load and work, were .cab files, while the ones that would not work, were .zip files. I extracted the .zip files, ran the setup.exe file and got the aforementioned '1607' message.
So as I see it, I can't update these drivers because I can't update the InstallShield engine that installs them! I need some input from you pros. I obviously have to get the InstallShield working first.

Broni....of course I paid for them. I knew it was a mistake, even as I was reading them my credit card number, and still, I let them 'brow beat' me into paying for it. This comes from years of being too afraid of asking computer questions and then, being berated for my ignorance.

I recently had a new motherboard INSTALLED on my laptop. Now I have no cd_rom drive that was there before in My Computer. It shows the drive for a 3 1/2 floppy, which I do not have on my laptop. Gateway2000 Solo. Windows XP.

You MAY need to make changes in the BIOS.XP looks for hardware changes so it possible that some of the BIOS SETTINGS where changed. It appears that you have to go into the BIOS and disable the FLoppy drive and find where the CD ROM is an have it enabled. Just in case you dont KNOW what to look for.Install motherboard drivers.

Also, It has some bios setting screen when i STARTUP =lMicrosoft has a DETAILED 'howto' on driver rollback.--->GoHereI know how to rollback a driver. I just didnt know which device to roll back.

Anyways its fixed. I just messed around with the bios settings at the start. It now works. =]Please DEFINE "just messed around with the BIOS settings."

I have installed Windows XP Home with service pack 2 on the windows partition of an I mac.
I have identified the Intel chip as Core DUO CPU t 7400. I link to BROADBAND by a wireless service that WORKS fine for the mac. But after configuring the PC I get a message that says that it can't connect. In the device manager the ethernet controller icon is a question MARK in yellow as is the network device. I have tried MS help with no avail. Intel don't seem to have the sort of help I need. I can run the broadband on another PC. It looks like you need ethernet card driver.

A laptop computer, precisely a TCL K40 chinese-manufactured computer has its hard-drive hidden away from windows INSTALLATION at boot-phase. Where can I locate the SATA/RAID drivers for such a system, or are they any other options. The best answer to this QUESTION, sincerely earns my respect as the very second best computer geek in the world; after me. Chou... I normally reserve this advice as there are some dangerous TOOLS involved...
However i'm assuming you have a decent knowledge of systems and can stay out of trouble if need be,
DLoad the UBCD from Here...
Use it to create a bootable CD.
Then travel to the system info section and run AIDA16 and the 2 other utilities to determine what MBoard and chipset are in that beast.
Travel to the appropiate manuf. site for the drivers and you should be good to go.

DISCLAIMER: If you manage to run the wrong utility and wipe out your HDD; wipe your CMOS data or anything else foolish that can be done with this collection of tools i am not responsible in any way, shape or form.

when ever i turn on my computer i am required to install my audio driver, like when i go to device manager it says its still installed but audio will not play and my volume control will not open, becuase it says theirs no mixer installed. but i have noticed that when the driver isnt working i can still hear the clicking when browsing through my documts and what not. i am runnin XP home.

marekNo panic my friend! Just repair yours windows installation USING a bootable service pack disk/CD. This should cure it, before we think of reformating the hard-drive. Just sometimes, anti-viruses may not be exactly perfect; just like we humans. Also, let me ask you if you do have the right audio driver for your PC. Visit the website of your PC manufacturer to ensure you have the right driver for audio. If you can't find the audio driver for your system, I'll recommend you to install Windows Vista on your system. haha i BUILT my comp my SELF so i dont have any off that OEM crap lol but i just got my hands on vistaa so i made a multi boot system xp and vista

I am ANOTHER new computer ILLITERATE, desperately hoping for help. I'm not sure what my mom needed to hide, but she would only give me her computer after she did a system restore. When I ATTEMPTED to re-install the drivers (copies of originals) the first 6 went fine, and I am unable to continue after that. It is a Compaq Presario.

Okay, so I just got really fed up with Windows Vista and how it was killing my computer, so I downgraded to Windows XP and LOST EVERYTHING...including my sound. I've already tried Windows Update, and it says I'm up-to-date on everything. I've tried going to my computer's website to download the drivers for my specific computer, but they all want me to be running Vista in order for me to USE them. I'm not sure I can find a sound device USING Everest, but I do have a "PCI Device" with a yellow question mark next to it in the Device Manager...but it won't update or reinstall the driver when I try.

I can't seem to find anything that screams "this is the type of sound card you have" to me, and yes, sound has worked on this computer in the past.

I'm running an HP m8100n Media Center PC, on Windows XP with the latest service pack.

And I would really appreciate your help.It's possible that there is no driver available for your device in XP, the driver may only be available for Vista. Here is MajorGeeks on the subject (See Halo's response).

You might be able to use a pci card which has an XP driver, they're not very expensive or you may be able to borrow one for a trial.

I bought this webcam a few days ago. When I installed it yesterday, there wasn't a problem at all. But when I wanted to turn it on TODAY, it didn't work! I tried to uninstall the drivers, but it failed. re-installing the drivers doesn't seem to help either. I really WANT to use my webcam again so any help would be greatly appreciated. Then power down and dis-connect the Cam and re-boot. Install the software and only hook it up when it prompts you...You see, that's the problem. Also, when I checked device manager, it said that there weren't any drivers installed. That could be true since I accidentally deleted the drivers from program files while I was attempting to fix the problem. Hi, Guys. Bought a Dynex model DX-M200 PCMCIA V.92 modem card on Ebay. The driver that CAME with the modem does not have the V.92 update. Nor does the manf website. Running Win XP on my laptop but goes to the default V.90 settings. Highest connect speed has been 31.2Kbps (my desktop connects at 45K on same phone line). The modem query shows that this modem can be UPDATED to V.92. Checked a bunch of the driver websites but cant find any V.92 drivers for this modem. Question is......is there a way to upgrade this modem to the new V.92 standard? Would this be a firmware upgrade? I'm lost! How can you tell if your dial up modem is using the V.92 standard? Any help would sure be appreciated!!

But BEWARE: Using the wrong flash may render the modem inoperable.
The difference you will see from V.90 to V.92 may not be worth the risk at this point...

I have an external Western Digital 300GB hard drive that I have only used as storage BASICALLY. I only have a 6GB hard drive running my operating system. I try to put all my downloads etc. onto the external, but I eventually have the same problem over and over. I know there are ways to partition my 300GB so that I can run an OS on it but I don't know exactly how to do it, and I am so nervous I will mess up and lose files, etc. I need advise and/or instructions badly! Please HELP!

kimiismeXP will not boot properly from an external HDD without an awful lot of messing around...this is by design.
The best thing you could do is get a larger INTERNAL hard drive.
You could then use the manuf. software that is Free with the hard drive to "clone" the 6G to the new drive and all your data and programs will be intact and you will now be booting up to the newer larger hard drive...
Post back for more instructions if you decide this is what you want to do...and your external HDD will probably be USB connected. Which is a lot slower.

When I went to boot up my pc - the moniter gave a ticking noise like a spike was GOING through it and wouldn't turn on. I have replaced it with my old 14" moniter and although it works it sometimes spikes and flickers. Is this my graphics card.
