sharifThere isn't a Windows XP driver for that printer available from Epson. The last driver that was made for that model was Windows 98. You COULD try it, but I don't think it'll work in XP.

Solve : Need: UPS driver?

Answer»

I have Vesta UPS 600VA. I need that drivers to connect with Win XP SYSTEM via serial cable.

If anyone known where I get drivers please post the link.I've searched for about 30 minutes and can't find anything like software/driver downloads for that thing. I couldn't even locate a website for the company. Sorry.Likewise...what Country was it purchased/manufactured in ? ?Vesta UPS is here..

AFAIK a driver is not what is required, a monitoring program is and one is AVAILABLE here.. For others see this list..

GOOD luck

@patio: I don't know where it manufactured but it was purchased in INDIA with my computer.

@Dusty: THANK you very much for your suggestions. Now I try with UPS Monitoring Programs.

Solve : Is my hard drive bad??

Answer»

when you say it starts over please don't tell me you are referring to a reboot- because the reason it would START over is because the windows XP CD is still in the drive Also ensure that the floppy drive is plugged in- don't know why a HDD would fail SIMULTANEOUSLY with a diskette drive, but as you said it exclaimed Diskette Drive seek error, so...

I've only ever had a single computer become unusable in my life, and I also have a AMD K6-2 350Mhz still TRUCKING quite well with Windows XP.

If you have any friends that are good (and I don't mean changing fonts in word good ) with computers you should SEE if you could get them to install XP for you.

Solve : DVD-R driver problems?

Answer»

Hi I am hoping someone here can help me with this problem.

I own a homebuilt PC. Very recently (in the last few days) I have had a problem with my DVD-R's not working. This morning, I went to CHECK under "My Computer" and noticed that the DVD-R's are no longer listed where they should be.

Both drives are listed under the device manager. When I went to Windows troubleshooter, it told me to uninstall the drivers for both of the drives, and then use the hardware manager to reinstall the drivers. I followed those instructions, and then I noticed that one of the "bubbles" below said:

"A problem occured during installation. Your new hardware might not work properly."

Windows troubleshooter then asks for me to check to see if there are updated drivers for the drives. There are none. And then WT follows up to say that they have no further RECOMMENDATIONS for fixing the problem.

This problem is rather odd, since both of these drives have worked fine on this computer for the last six months (when I built the PC). I don't know what would suddenly be causing this problem. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.Try booting into Safe Mode / Device Manager & take a look-see what's listed there. If there are multiple instances of the cdrom drives then delete them and reboot.

Also check your cabling inside the pc.

Alan -

(sorry for the long delay in getting back to you)

I checked cabling, it is o.k. for both POWER and data. I also did boot into safe mode, and in the device manager, there is only one listing for each drive. I also tried unintalling and then reinstalling the drivers also in safe mode, and the same result.

I am not sure what to do at this point. I am not sure if getting a PCI card that can accept a connection from a dvd-r drive would GIVE a different result. This reminds me of a defective IDE cable.

Solve : Lost Gigs?

Answer»

I have a laptop with an 80 gig hard drive(69 availible out of box). Now i have 18 gigs and i dont have that much on the hard drive. I have 5 gigs of music and two games that take up a total of 5.6 gigs. I also have some other things but not enough to take up what is says is gone. I have about 21 gigs of LOST memory that should be there. I think maybe some of my memory got lost when I changed from Itunes to Zune. I have gaps of BLANK memory and ive been trying to get it back. I defraged the drive and I did a clean up. The defrag did nothing and the clean up got me 6 gigs back. I just want to know if there is anything i can do to get the lost memory back. I know this is a confusing situation but i really appreciate the help. thanx Start by disabling the Indexing Service. And CHECK your settings for System Restore. By default it grabs 12% of the total size...download and install windirstat so you can visually find out where all the large files and folders are. Then delete the FILE you don't need. My guess is that iTunes is still taking up a lot of space with the converted music, photo, or video files.

now the mp3 player won't turn on also

can anyone help me to run that mp3 player correctly

plz..............Am i GETTING this right? You upgraded your mp3 player with the wrong firmware and know it doesn't work?

If that is the case I think you need to EITHER turn it in for repairs at the SHOP you bought it at or contact Creative directly for a repair. near my place i tod to every person in the shop they don't even know abt what to do Your SOL...i think you'll be shopping for a new mp3 player.

Firmware upgrades are always a gamble...sometimes you lose since they are irreversible. For the ordinary user it might be irreversible but Creative should STILL be able to reflash it. So I would contact them.

Solve : Sound Drivers....?

Answer»

Hello. Thank you for taking time to reading my Topic about this. I have been facing this problem for some time. I asked for tech support with the HP CHAT feature. nothing helps. this is what the problem is. Each time I Restart my computer (or at random times) the drivers for my sound card remove them self from my hardrive.I have to reinstall them each time. and cant hear any sound from the speakers. in that case I also cant hear sound from ONE of the .avi formats for final FANTASY 7 ADVENT children. due to this problem. How I know its the problem: I use winamp for .avi formats. and when theres no sound drivers avilable the winamp program says "No mixers avilable cannot play video" or whatever somthing LIKE that, anyway when running FF7AC the video plays with out any sound. its annoying to reinstall the drivers each time this happens and I faced this problem since March of this year.

Computer Info:
2.66Ghz Intel Pentium 4 Processor
512MB DDR1 RAM
Sound Card: Realtek AC'97 Audio.
Is anyone else experencing this problem? or has anyone had it before? You may need to update your sound drivers.

Solve : Fake Sound Drivers?

Answer»

I play a game by Paradox Entertainment called Victoria, and it REQUIRES sound drivers. But from my previous experiences playing it, it shouldn't really require sound seeing as how the only sound it produces are a few lame clips when you click a military division and three background songs that loop endlessly. Usually when I play, I just turn the volume off and play the radio or a CD.

I'm playing it on a different computer now, and I don't have a sound CARD. Are there any drivers out there that can trick WINDOWS XP into thinking I have a sound card when I actually don't?

Thanks in ADVANCE for any responses.Sorry, but I don't think such "drivers" exist. Thing is, drivers are just programs made to work with specific sound cards. Faking it would still require a sound card. And then, you might as well get real drivers.

Sounds like a FUN game, though.

Solve : Hi-speed usb host controller?

Answer»

please can anyone help before i go insane!!
I have an old computer box and have tried to install a usb for a MOBILE phone memory card reader on doing this i got a message saying "The USB Mass storage device will work at low speed need to install a Hi-Speed USB Host Controller" so i have bought a'HI SPEED USB 2.0' but i am confronted with the same messege as before. can anyone help pleeeeaaasee!!! Quote from: empty on August 21, 2007, 11:36:32 AM

'HI SPEED USB 2.0'
Uhh what exactly did you buy?
If you bought an USB hub (an external box that you connect to one of your existing USB PORTS) then it will still only RUN at the old USB 1 speed since the USB port in your computer is an USB 1 port.

Solve : Can no longer read or burn DVD-9/Dual layer disks????

Answer»

About a month ago I purchased memorex Double Layer DVD+R disks and had no PROBLEM burning a video MUCH longer than the standard 4.7 GB disks; however, I recently had to reformat my entire COMPUTER due to VIRUSES and what not. As a result everything was lost. I reloaded all my old programs and hardware but the only trouble I have is my computer can no longer read a Dual Layer disk like before. Instead it reads the disk as being a CD instead as a DVD and prohibits me from writing any video to the disk. This confuses me because I know my computer is capable of writing to a DL disk because I have DONE it once before.

Computer: HP PAVILION m7580n w/ Lightscribe DVD+/- Writer/ CD-writer
Processor: AMD Athlon 64*2 Dual core
Processor 4400+ for True multi tasking
Optical Drive: Super Multi DVD burner

Solve : Okay, I have no Idea about this please help??

Answer»

Okay I have an Acer computer, AMD Sempron Processer, Windows XP.

I have no clue where the problem is AT ALL! So If I am on the wrong board please show me the board I need to be on. Okay well here is my problem...

My computer RACES all the time. I'm afraid that one of these times its going to crash because it races so MUCH.

Does anyone know the problem/solution?OK, I don't understand....
What do you mean by 'My computer races'?What I mean by it races, is that it loads loud. It sounds like the fan is spinning really really FAST. It loads loud? What do you mean by that? Is it only when loading something it is noisy? Can you determine what is making the noise? If there is a loud sound comming from your computer, it is probably your fan.
You should check if all your fans are connected properly and are not moving around.
Your fans are supposed to be on for as LONG as the computer is on but if a fan isn't connected properly or is loose, it will make a sort of rattling sound.Have you seen the cat in the last few days ? ?If the fan is not usually so loud, I expect your computer is getting hot inside. Maybe it's all clogged up with dust. Or the air vents are covered up or too near a wall or a radiator. Or maybe it's very hot where you are?

If it is clogged or just about, you can disassemble your case and use compressed air, hold rag over end of hose to catch moisture. I use dry Nitrogen and about 50 lb`s of pressure to blow out case and power supply. I work in refrigeration, and air conditioning. Have a tank on truck
for Nitrogen. you COULD find a A/C Ref. tech around your area to blow comp out with Nitrogen.
He may charge you. I would not, I also live in small town

Solve : New Computer Not Detecting?

Answer»

Hey I just got a new computer. I built it myself so its all from scratch.

I guess the only important things you might need to know is that I have: Windows XP Pro, http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16827151141, http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16813131013

So the story I'll try to make it as clear as possible.

I put together the computer, turned it on, inserted XP. It installs XP but when it went to launch XP, my computer shut off due to the processor overheating. It was no big deal just my room is to hot for this computer I have, so I moved downstairs. Well I turn it on, the overheating problem is gone, and I FIND out that now it doesn't do anything. It goes to a black screen.

Being more detailed about whats happens when I turn on the pc. It loads and gives me the DEL for setup and TAB for bios message. Then it lists any Errors that happened. The error is:

(a sentence picking out my cd/dvd drive)
detect device done, no any drive found

then the screen is black and nothing happens.

So I went into the bios to double check, and sure enough my cd/dvd is there but its not being detected. Nothing is working I am totally lost as to going about finding my drive. I cannot do anything but enter the bios.

Any solutions would be welcomed ^_^. ThanksI advice you to reintall your operating system. also make sure that your processor, fan and heat sink are install properly. And to check if cd or dvd rom is ok, remove it and boot your computer and if it persist, then do same with other hardwares. If possible start afresh eg partitioning, farmating and xp installation. Good lock

my email: email removed to PREVENT the SPAMBOTS attacking...If the CD is listed in the BIOS then at least the system is detecting it.
You should be ABLE to just put the XP CD in and re-boot and the startup PROCEDURE should start.
Then just re-install XP...

Solve : Webcam Driver?

Answer»

I have a "Max-I-Swann USB 2.0 Webcam". I have just installed Windows Vista 7 times because the webcam driver doesn't work with vista. When i run microsoft update there is an update for the webcam. As soon a you install the update things go wrong. You can't shutdown the computer anymore and numerous times you get the BLUE screen of death (about EVERY 10 mins).

EVEN if you uninstall the update i still keep getting the blue screen of death. I just installed vista so i don't currently have the update installed. I just installed the driver off the disc but the camera doesn't work SINCE the driver is for xp. So i cant use my webcam without the update. when i got the update it worked but the blue screen of death CONTINUES. How can i get the update to work without it crashing my comp. all the time?Have you tried visiting the manufacturer's website for a driver for your operating system?Give this driver a try...

Solve : XP not recognizing SATA drive?

Answer»

I have a new HP Pavilion. It came with a home version of Windows Vista. I need to have XP on it to run the software I need on this system. When I tried to reformat the drive that came with the unit I got a blue screen that said the drive was bad and I could not go any further, but I could go back to the hard drive and it acted normally (still having Vista installed) I thought maybe HP protected the hard drive somehow so I bought a new drive and disconnected the old drive and installed the new drive. With my Windows disc in I still get the same message. I did some research and FOUND that XP would probably not recognize a SATA drive so I would have to hit F6 during the install and install a SATA driver for the motherboard, but I have not been able to FIND a SATA driver download. Anybody have any ideas? Would it be possible for me to do a duel BOOT, maybe?
Gie us some details on the computer please. Either the MAKE and model of the motherboard or at least the computer's model number. The SATA drivers for that machine should be on the driver CD that shipped with the machine...alternatively you could check the HDD manuf. site.
Did the new drive come with a CD or floppy ? ?
If so there they are.

Solve : Network controller??

Answer»

I have a rather pesky issue here. I run a C552US laptop by Compaq/HP.

In device manager, one of the "unknown devices" is listed as Network Controller and claims to not have a driver installed. This is the reason why I cannot get on the WLAN. In addition, I have installed HP Wireless Assistant and it INDICATES that my WLAN is "disabled," and any attempt at "enabling" it, if it is even possible, seems to be in vain. Any help on finding the right drivers for the network card WOULD help a lot.

This link: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericDocument?docname=c00876541&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN

Is supposedly a list of all the components of the laptop. As you can SEE, the network card is labeled as "integrated" and is NAMED rather generically, which is of no help when I am trying to google up the right drivers. Do you have the original Compaq Driver CD for that laptop ? ?
If so re-install the MBoard drivers and that should solve the issue...

Solve : Any software out there for finding and collecting drivers already installed??

Answer»

Here's my situation: I am getting ready to wipe my HARD drives clean and do a reinstall of everything, my OS, my programs, everything. I have all the disks for my hardware and everything, so I do have the drivers available, but I was hoping to shave some time off and try and get all the drivers all together in one place. Anyone KNOW of anything capable of that? Or better yet is there a folder where all my current drivers are stored?

Also, I was wondering if anyone was aware of any programs that would be able to identify what hardware you have installed and go get all the drivers for you automatically.

Thanks in advance for any help anyone is able to offer.Everest HOME will show you all the COMPONENTS of your machine.
However 9 times out of 10 the best drivers are the ones that shipped with the machine.
The cleanest install method is :
Install OS (XP Win2K etc)
Install MBoard drivers.
Install video drivers
Install NIC card drivers.
Install sound drivers ( if not onboard sound ).
Note: No one really does this much anymore but i re-boot in between each install...

At this point install all your protection apps.

Before connecting to the web restart the machine and make sure Windows firewall is enabled.

Re-boot go online and grab all the Windows updates.
After that grab all available updates for your protection apps.
Shut down, disconnect from the web and run all your protection apps in safemode.

When done with this it's the perfect time to create an image of your BRAND new install using Ghost or Acronis.
And if you decide you do want to try Everest ( it is free ), here's a link to save you having to find it:

Solve : Driver causing system crash?

Answer»

Hi! I'm hoping someone on here can help me, because I'm quite at a loss as to what to do.

I'm using a Dell Dimension 8300, and I'm running Windows XP Home Edition, Service Pack 2. It has an Intell Pentium 4 CPU 3.00GHZ, and 512 MB of RAM. I use EZ Armor Firewall and eTrust Anti-Virus, along with AVG Free Version Anti-Virus. I also have Ad-Aware SE Personal version, also free, for catching spyware.

I'm having a problem with a driver on my system. It causes my computer to crash and give me the blue screen of death 1-2 times a day, and in addition, it has been running a lot slower and programs keep on freezing. This computer has a 112 GB hard drive with 60% still free, so I don't think it's because I'm out of space.

When I first got this computer back in 2003/2004, it came with a trial version of McAfee firewall. At one point, it kept trying to force me to pay for it and kept messing with my other firewall, so I tried to uninstall it first by using the program's uninstall command. For some reason, it didn't work, so then I tried to DELETE it VIA Add / Remove Programs. It kept saying that it was deleted, but the icon was still in my taskbar and the program was still there and was still running.

So, in a moment of impulsive stupidity, I went into the Program Files, found the McAfee file, and manually deleted everything in it, file by file. It took a few tries to get rid of everything, but eventually I thought I had. The computer had CRASHED periodically from time to time, but it's happening now with annoying and alarming frequency. The last 5 CRASHES have sited 'MPFirewall.SYS' as the offending driver that's CAUSING it. That driver is part of the McAfee Firewall that I thought I had deleted. Since I deleted all the other files and accidentally left the driver there, I guess it's causing my system to crash by trying to do stuff with files that aren't there?

I tried downloading and running McAfee Virtual Technician, which "will scan your system to ensure that your McAfee products are installed correctly," according to their website. I ran it, and it said that it couldn't find any trace of McAfee products on my computer.

The first couple crash screens I got told me to use CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption. I did that, and it didn't find any problems.

The other crash screens all told me to use/do the following:

1.) Driver Verifier - I ran it, and it found the driver and monitored it and gave me some technical information with a lot of numbers, but it didn't offer any actions to take with the driver.

2.) Special Pool - I enabled it, but again, no difference and nothing happened.

3.) Update Windows - I tried that, and it made no difference.

4.) Disable BIOS Memory options; caching & shadowing - I didn't do this, because I don't know how.

5.) Uninstall new software / hardware - The only thing I installed that I noticed system problems afterwards lately has been Windows Live Messenger. After I installed it, the system started crashing, but it kept and keeps identifying 'MPFirewall.SYS' as the reason.

So, my first question is how can I fix this?

Secondly, if I were to go into the DRIVERS folder and simply delete the 'MPFirewall.SYS' file, would that make the system more unstable or worse, or could that fix the problem? I tried typing 'Manually Deleting Drivers' into google, and I didn't get anything helpful. So then I typed in 'computer help' and found these forums.

Please help!Based on a quick Google search I'd delete it, you may have to re-start in safe mode.
Run Ccleaner after deletion.

Solve : Disc Drives Messed up?

Answer»

I have a problem with my master and slave drive, (nexxtech DVD rom (master) (reader), samsung burner (slave), recently I changed my dvd rom drive becasue my old jvc lite on stopped working, after I changed it windows does not recognize either drive, its shows they are working, but when I open *my COMPUTER* and click on the drive *my computer* freezes, when i press eject on drive D both disc drives eject, so I assume their is something wrong with the set up, how could I reset the drives and make them go back to working properly without REINSTALLING windows.Try setting the burner as master...double check the jumper settings. It should be master or master with slave present. This drive should be hooked to the end of the ribbon cable.
Startup Windows and see if it's recognised.
If so power down and install the reader as slave. Hook it to the middle connector of the IDE cable.
If all this fails i would try a NEW IDE cable.
When re-installing only introduce one drive at a time...So Just switch the wires, and if not change the ide wire.
thx ill try it outIT WORKED THX MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thank you so much, I thought I had to reinstall windows, but not anymore, do u know what caused this?
It's easy for the BIOS to get confused when addind g new equipment...has little to do with Windows.
A good rule of thumb is to only change/add one component at a time and always re-boot for the changes to take effect...
Glad you are fixed up.

Solve : Problem loading 1GB Jaz Drive, DOS 6.22?

Answer»

If at first you don't succeed, try, try again (the reason for this statement will be made clear below).

I have run into a problem I have never seen before, and hope that someone here can provide some insight.

The Situation:
I am running DOS 6.22 on an older model Pentium 2 computer. I am booting off of one (of 2) IDE hard drives, and am attempting to mount an internal 1GB Jaz drive (SCSI), using the Iomega GUEST.EXE program.

My SCSI Host Controller is an Adaptec AIC-7890AB, and requires the ASPI8U2.sys manager.

In an attempt to make the GUEST.EXE program run automatically at boot ("permanently loaded"), I copied the entire contents of the Iomega Install floppy into a local directory on the hard drive, and edited the guest.ini file to run the appropriate ASPI manager (obtained from a Windows 98 boot disk).
I edited my config.sys file to contain the lines: DEVICE=C:\JAZTOOLS\ASPI8U2.SYS
and: LASTDRIVE=T
and my autoexec.bat file so that the last LINE is: C:\JAZTOOLS\GUEST.EXE LETTER=F

The Problem: When I turn the computer ON (Plugged into wall, hit power switch), the computer boots as normal. The bios finds the two hard drives, the SCSI Jaz drive, and begins to boot DOS. It successfully "installs" ASPI8U2.SYS, and attempts to execute GUEST.EXE. The program PRINTS a message to the SCREEN: "Finding a drive letter for your Iomega drive...". After a relatively long wait (average: 38 seconds), the program returns "successfully", with the message "Your iomega jaz 1GB drive is drive letter F:". However, attempts to access the drive fail repeatedly. Occasionally, multiple attempts to access the drive will result in one "success" (i.e., the prompt will read: "F:\>"). However, even simple tasks like dir will fail. This is where it gets interesting. If I hit the computer reset button (cold restart), the computer reboots. This time, the execution of GUEST.EXE takes less than five seconds (same messages). After the reset, the Jaz drive works perfectly -- every time. Successive resets (at least ten) result in the drive always working (hence the "try, try again").

This seems like a hardware problem, but I've checked every connection multiple times. Additionally, the bios finds the Jaz drive every time (at both initial power up, and after a reset). The fact that the procedure works after a reset makes me think that it might be a driver issue. I've tried powering the Jaz drive up independently (and first) from a separate power source -- and then turning on the computer, but I get the same result. In addition, I've removed the references to GUEST.EXE from the autoexec.bat file, and tried to run the program manually, but the system exhibits the same behavior (i.e., failure after power on, and success after pushing the reset button).

I have so far been unable to determine if this is truly a hard reset button (i.e., cuts the power to all system devices temporarily), or if it simply sends a signal to the processor.

Any comments/assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Preparing for the possibility that I can't "fix" this, is there any way to make the computer do a reset from some sort of batch file?Quote

C:\JAZTOOLS\GUEST.EXE LETTER=F

Edit this to read: C:\JAZTOOLS\GUEST.EXE/F:

Save the changes and reboot.
Make a copy of the original before editing in case this doesn't solve it...Have you considered the possibility of the jaz drive having failed? They were notoriously unreliable, which is a reason often suggested for their failure in the market place.

@Patio: thanks for the tip. However, this did not fix the problem.

@contrex: I have considered that, but am not sure that the Jaz drive is the problem. One reason is that I have two Jaz drives, and both (independently) exhibit the same behavior. Both were working before I started upgrading this system. While it is possible that I somehow managed to fry both drives, I do not think that that is likely. Secondly, I have been able to get the computer to boot from both drives (if the IDE drives are disabled in the bios) upon initial powerup, i.e., no reset necessary.

Incidentally, executing the command: ECHO G=FFFF:0000| DEBUG is a nifty way to reboot the computer from a command prompt. In my situation, executing the command seems to solve my Jaz issue IF (and only if) the command is entered manually. If it is a part of the autoexec.bat, the Jaz drive still does not load properly. This leads me to believe that timing is an issue -- maybe the Jaz drive needs some FINITE number of seconds of power before it can be loaded? I've tried playing around with delays in the autoexec.bat script, but even up to 15s doesn't seem to work.

Any additional ideas would be welcomed.

Have you seen these notes?

http://pw2.netcom.com/~deepone/zipjaz/dos.html

Thanks for the suggestion. I have, in fact, read through those. I do not have the original Jaz Tools disk, and so am stuck using Guest.exe. Unfortunately, Iomega does support Jaz drive anymore, so I can't get the utilities from them.

What flavor of Windows are you running ? ?

I am running windows home basic. I can use my monitor, however windows detected my monitor as a "GENERIC PNP device" and if there were manufacturer's drivers for the monitor, it would be BETTER....

meaning, some features might not be available until I get the manufacturer's drivers; this is what happened with my previous monitor....

Solve : Missing video-card drivers??

Answer»

Hello everybody,

bought a Dell Optiplex GX150 without operating system. Bought Windows 2000 and installed it, I find that only 16 colors are allowed and maximun screen area is 800x600 pixels. I thought I was missing some video card drivers and I downloaded all the video card drivers for that Pc in Dell.com but without results. Does anybody have any suggestion?

Thank youuuuu

Robert

Travel back to Dell's site and ENTER the service tag # from the rear of the machine to insure you have installed the correct video drivers...
Or is this an add-on card you have ? ?Wonder if they ever figured it out ?Once you have double checked to be sure you know what you need...
driverguide.com might be a PLACE to go, as I have found all drivers I have needed from that website.

You will need to register for free in ORDER to have full access to that site. You can do scan from that driverguide.com. which will tell you what drivers you need, what drivers you need to update, and whether or not driverguide has it available.

If nothing works, try contacting dell technical SUPPORT, with computer MODEL, serial/product number, and maybe display driver device model info handy.

Good Luck.

Solve : Updatin Drivers??

Answer»

how do i know when i need to update my drivers for my pc..You shouldn't have to worry about UPDATING them at all...if they're not causing any problems.

Like the old saying goes..."If it ain't broke...don't fix it!"With one exception - GRAPHICS drivers.
If you have a dedicated graphics card, you should update the drivers if the NEW ones OFFER performance, feature or stability enhancements (if you want those enhancements that is).where can i go about locating that.?What graphics card do you have?try driverguide.com or manufacturer's website. You'll find what you need there.

Solve : SiS Audio Driver Help?

Answer»

I think its an onboard card, part of the motherboard. I used the Belarc Advisor Profile of my computer and this is the motherboard spec:

Board: SiS-651
Bus Clock: 100 megahertz
BIOS: Phoenix Technologies, LTD 6.00 PG 04/08/2003

I did a google search for the audio drivers for that, and GOT SiS 7018 audio driver. I use the installation wizard and it goes halfway then the wizard closes with no error message. In device manager the 7018 has a YELLOW exclamation mark next to it, and when i try to update or re-install, I get the error message "the hardware was not installed becuase the wizard cannot find the necessary software".

I've now tried downloading the ZIP file for the 7018 drivers. I used the "WINXP" folder, and selected the driver in there. The PC copied the files over, but then I got the error message "The device cannot start (Code 10)" Any idea why? Please visit the following page to look for the correct driver for your motherboard:

http://support.gateway.com/s/Mobile/Q106/Bishop/4006148R/4006148Rsp2.shtml

Let us know if this helped at all...My PC isn't a Gateway, its a Q-TechI'm sorry...I don't know how that happened...

Anyway...visit the following page for the correct driver for your audio:

http://www.sis.com/download/I tried these recently.

With the 7012, I use the installation wizard, and it closes itself everytime, halfway through installation.
And with the 7018 (which is installed on my PC but no drivers) I use that, go through device manager and get the Device cannot be started Code 10 error message. Please visit the following page to let SiS scan your system to determine the proper driver(s) for your motherboard:

http://www.sis.com/support/support_prodid.htmJust tried it, and got back with this.

Audio Not SiS Audio device. Provided by board maker.

Belarc said my board is SiS. What am I doing wrong?Well then, we know the audio chip on the motherboard is not an SiS chip...

Also...I did some research and found that the SiS-651 is not a motherboard but a graphics chip.

We know the manufacturer of your computer is a Q-Tech...now if you could only supply us with the model of the Q-Tech...we may be in business or at least pointed in the right direction for the proper audio driver for your notebook computer.

What does Belarc report for audio devices ? ?This is what I get from Belarc

Multimedia
SiS 7018 Audio Driver
USB Audio Device

And where would I find the model usually?Maybe you could help us a little further and tell us what Belarc says is the installed motherboard.I get this under "Main Circuit Board":

Board: SiS-651
Bus Clock: 100 megahertz
BIOS: Phoenix Technologies, LTD 6.00 PG 04/08/2003

I did a "SiS-651 audio drivers" search on google, and from driverguide, DOWNLOADED a ZIP file entitled "a12111c". I used the setup.exe and it completed. Restarted my computer, nothing CHANGED. I then went through device manager, and updated the 7018 driver with the 7012, and still get the same error code "This device cannot start (code 10)".

Solve : Please Help! Need functioning ohciusb.sys driver?

Answer»

Greetings Everyone,
Three days ago my computer froze and when I restarted the computer it started showing this blue screen message:

*** Stop: 0x0000001e (0xC0000005, 0xED6BF9FA, 0X00000000, 0X00000118) KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
*** Address ED6BF9FA base at ED6BF000, DateStamp 46d6e306 - ohciusb.sys

Some more info:
- Windows 2000 prof., P4 1.4 Ghz, 256MB RAM, HDD1 137GB HDD2 163GB,
- The computer can run in safe mode
- I have not added any hardware or software recently
- When I start the computer it windows loads until it DISPLAYS the dialog box which states "Please wait Windows 2000 is...." and then the blue screen appears. Windows 2000 never fully loads.
- I have a D-Link DUB-H4 USB 2.0 mini hub, but it did not
come with any driver software.

From my research I have found that Microsoft says I need to replace the ohciusb.sys driver because it is most likely faulty:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/275678

Below is some info on the driver:
http://www.runscanner.net/getmd5.aspx?md5=88CB769EBCDAE664A242450AA1FB1ECA&process=ohciusb.sys

In an attempt to localize the cause of the problem I removed the driver file from the c: drive and placed it on my secondary drive and restarted the computer. I noticed that when I did this the computer loaded windows to completion, it displayed my wallpaper and the icons on my desktop, however after 20 seconds the blue screen message appears.

I think that if I can replace the ohciusb.sys driver the computer will function as it did before.
My problem is that I dont know where to find the driver. I looked at my windows 2000 cd-rom and my other cd-roms with drivers programs on them but have not been able to find it.

Can someone please direct me to where I can find a functioning copy of the ohciusb.sys driver? It would be GREATLY APPRECIATED. I am a student and I need to resolve this problem quickly because I need to have a functioning computer at my disposable to do my work.

Again your help is GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Krontype
According to the link provided this is not a Windows driver...it is a third party USB driver so you need to review all USB devices you have had installed and track it down that way...

BTW most google hits show it as possible malware...what protection programs do you have and when have you updated and ran them last ? ?Hi Patio,
Thanks for the help. I have the AVG free antivirus and the AVG free Anti-Spy ware, Spybot Search and Destroy and Comodo Personal firewall. All of them are updated. I ran them all. My c: drive was clean except for some tracking cookies which I removed. On my secondary hard drive I found one virus worm.feebs which I promptly removed it , but I haven't used this secondary hard drive in over a year so I'm not sure if this would be the source of the problem.

I looked up the worm.feebs in google.
http://www.pctools.com/mrc/infections/id/Worm.Feebs/
It seems to be a virus involved with mass mailing and such.

I have gone through all my driver cd-roms looking for the ohciusb.sys driver but have not found it.

I am using the safe mode as I am typing this and I cannot enable my Comodo firewall, is that normal?

krontypeYes the Comodo thing is normal...since only the minimum drivers/services are loaded in safemode most firewalls will not run in that mode.
To eliminate the secondary drive as the issue ( which i don't believe it is ) simply unhook the IDE cable and see if the issue persists...
Your protection scheme should be adequate and as you had no reported issues it may not be an INFECTION...if it is it's probably a low threat one.

Another thing you can try :
Do a search for the driver across the entire hard drive.
Make a backup copy of it and put it in a new directory.
Write down where it resides on your system...there may be more than one instance.
Now delete all the entries and re-boot and see if the error message goes away.

If it does i would keep things the way they are
If it still errors out we may have to try a different approach...Hi Patio,
I tried your suggestions but unfortunately when i delete the ohciusb.sys file from my computer it returns when I reboot. Windows loads up but after displaying my wallpaper and desktop icons the blue screen message also returns.
There is only one instance of the file, in my C:winnt/system32/drivers folder. I deleted it from there and placed it in a folder on my secondary hard drive.

krontypeTry the application Compatibility tool.

Here Thanks Street1.
I am not at home and won't get home untill after 10:30 pm this evening. But I will try it as soon as I get home.

krontypeI encountered this exact same error using the same OS on a Dell Dimension 4100. It started last Friday afternoon (Sept 7th) and I have been unable to correct it after many attempts. I too can bring the system up in Safe Mode. I am very interested in knowing how to fix this one.

My BSOD started just after I connected to ATT Yahoo Internet service for the first just after completing the install process for this new service.

Thanks for your help!Hi Street1,
i cannot install the program I keep getting the following message box:

The Windows Installer could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running in Windows safe mode, or if the Windows installer is not properly installed.

Unfortunately right now I am forced to run my computer in safe mode, it will not run otherwise.

krontype
Looks like you need to do a repair install. This is a good walk
through for repair install.

GoHere If it re-appears after deleting and re-booting i suspect it is in fact malicious...
Update and run all your protection apps in safemode.
Then post back with a list of what you ran and their findings...Greetings Everyone,
The following suggestion was passed on to me: First in safe mode rename the ohciusb.sys file to ohciusb.OLD. Then log into the computer with a different profile (an admin profile - I had to create a new one), and then delete the user profile that originally produced the error.

So far it seems it has worked for me, but I did not delete the old profile yet. I believe that it can still be restored. And I'm also trying to transfer some of the stuff (firefox settings, bookmarks, extensions, etc.) to my new user profile.

Some observations:

I found that after renaming the file I was able to start the computer with the old profile without getting the bluescreen message(but for some reason I could not get on the internet). I created the new user and rebooted. Then I went to C:\WINNT\system32\drivers to make a copy of the new user's ohciusb.sys file.

Now here's the interesting part, as soon as I clicked on ohciusb.sys file AVG free Antivirus alerted me that it was infected with trojan horse Agent.HKI. I clicked heal and it said the restoration was successful. And it DETECTED another trojan horse called generic7.IGZ. I clicked heal and it said the restoration was successful.

This is really a shock because on Sunday Sept 9, I had scanned my computer (in safemode) with AVG Antivirus, AVG free Anti spyware , Spybot search and destroy (all updated with the latest definitions) and everything came back fine. I am wondering how this happened, is it that perhaps in safemode not everything can be detected be anti-virus/spyware programs? Or maybe it is because these last 3 days I have been forced to connect to the internet for hours at a time without my firewall?
Right now I am scanning my computer for more virus and it takes between 6 and 7 hours so I'll give you the results tomorrow.

krontypeGreetings All,
Here's the scanning results of last night under the new user profile.
AVG Antivirus found that the ohciusb.old (in my C://WINNT\system32\drivers\) was infected with the trojan horse Agent.HKI and deleted it.
And a few days ago I had made copies of the ohciusb.sys and the ohciusb.syt files and placed them on my secondary drive. Last night AVG Antivirus found them to be infected with trojan horse Agent.HKI and deleted them as well.

I restarted the computer. The new user profile seems to be working with no problem. I am scanning the C://WINNT\system32\drivers\ folder to see if there are anymore viruses. Can't spend a lot of time with it today unforunately I have classes all day and won't be home until late. However I'll post my findings later.

krontypeGreetings Everybody,

My computer is now almost functioning completely normal. I didnot have to delete my old user profile. After the viruses were deleted I was able to log on with my original profile. The only thing that is different now is that I get a dialog box which states the following:
The drive or network connection that the shortcut '.lnk' refers to is unavailable.
I'll find what shortcut that is referring to and delete that.

Thanks to patio and street1 for the help and suggestions.

krontypeGood call patio.

Solve : How can you replace a faulty CD-ROM driver??

Answer»

I have an Dell Latitude 600 using Windows XP Home Edition. I bought the COMPUTER used three or four years ago, and it came with a Matsushita UJDA330 CD-ROM drive which as always worked just fine -- until a week ago. When I tried to copy my Quicken Backup files to a CD, I got the dreaded blue screen. At that point, I did a system restore and thought the problem was fixed. However, I've gotten the blue screen three or four more times, but only when I'm trying to use the CD-ROM drive.

Microsoft provides a whole laundry list of possible CAUSES for blue screens, but MINE seems to be related to the driver for my CD-ROM drive, since that's the only time I get one. What I'd like to do, unless it's a stupid move, is to replace or update the driver for the drive; but Matsushita doesn't seem to offer anything, and the drive isn't listed on the Microsoft certified list (therefore, I can't get a driver from them).

Two primary questions:
1. Am I taking a sensible approach by updating/replacing the driver for this drive?
2. Where in h... does one fine a driver for my particular drive?

Help, somebody. I don't use the drive a lot, but I do need it.so it's a cd burner?are you sure its from it?have you try playing movie or anything except burning?if its fine then go to the software you use to burn or the thing that you burn, should be that at my 1st though. I tried to open some files on a CD, but part way through the process I got the blue screen. It's not DVD, so I can't play a movie; and my sound is so inferior that I don't use it for music. I just use it for data and PHOTO files.what written when the blue screen occurs?it's good if you google itI didn't write it down, but the message didn't specify why was wrong -- only said Windows encountered a significant problem and shut down to protect my computer. Since I have no problems unless I'm using the CD-ROM drive, I think I've isolated the problem to that hardware or its driver. I thought I'd try replacing/updating the driver first to see if that would solve the problem. The alternative, I suppose, is to replace the drive and get a driver for the new one, but that's expensive. Since I bought the computer used, I didn't get the original data and restore disks, so I can't reload the driver for the drive I have. Microsoft doesn't CERTIFY my particular drive, so I can't get a driver from them, either. What I need is a source for a driver that I can download.bsstor.sys is mentioned many times with your problem.

You can download it Here

Perhaps your copy is corrupted,or missing. What is bsstor? I don't recall seeing that anywhere, and when I opened your link, Windows warned me that it is an uncertified site. More info, please. In my link I am the one who uploaded bsstor.sys.

I thought you needed to replace your copy.

This is where it came from---->Here

Should look familiar to you friend.

RobertYou didn't answer my first question, Robert. What is bsstor.sys? Is it a driver for a CD-ROM drive or, like it sounds, a system restore program? I don't think I need a system restore, just a driver for a Matsushita UJDA330 that won't be in conflict with others.Have you tried installing a different burning program?

See Below site.

http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4242.htmlI've already tried two burner programs -- Roxio and Windows -- with the same result: a blue screen. Right now I'm convinced it's the driver that's the problem, and nobody seems to know how to find one to replace it.

Solve : Problem w/ Drivers? System won't recognize newly installed ethernet adapter?

Answer»

Hello All:

Although I don't know much about computer technology, I'm no idiot and can follow directions...PLEASE HELP!

Here is the deal.

I recently switched over to ATT/YAhoo high speed internet from broadband. The installation disk notified me that I needed to install an ethernet adapter so I installed a Trendnet TEG-PCITXR 32-bit 10/100/1000Mbps Copper Gigabit Ethernet adapter into my HP Pavilion 8670C (Intel Pentium III Processor, Windows XP, 30 GB hard drive and a 128 MB memory.)

I made sure that the adapter was firmly pressed in place and screwed in. I ran the installation disk that came with the product but right off the bat I noticed that it never gave me the option to "select drivers" as it said that it should have in the instruction manual that came with it.

After installing the ethernet adapter software anyway, the ATT/Yahoo installation program STILL says that it can't find the adapter.

I called ATT/Yahoo and they told me that it sounded like I needed the "disk drivers" which would be on the installation disks that originally came with the computer (WHICH I DON'T HAVE) or I needed to get it from Hewlett Packard (the maker of the computer).

I called HP and they said b/c the computer is so OLD, they don't carry the disks anymore.

My QUESTION is: WHAT EXACTLY do I need and is there any other way to get it???

Thank you for your time!!!try find the driver here
www.driverguide.com
but i'm sure xp didn't need installation disc for the ethernet adapter.
MAYBE I should also add that the computer did not come with Windows XP...I think maybe Windows 98. I installed XP later.

I appreciate the LINK but I still don't REALLY know what I'm supposed to be looking for.

Solve : Driver issue or something else??

Answer»

I play a game from Sony Online Entertainment. I have been playing for the past 2 years, and everything has been working fine. When opening the game, it goes into full screen, but doesn't load the game. I can hear the game play but cannot see. Same with another game from nexon.net. I can hear everything but cannot see. Also, when my CPU is powered off, but the monitor is STILL on, it displays different colors in this order: white, green, red, blue, BLACK. Over and over again. Is this a DRIVER issue or a video card issue?

My Computer: Dimension 3000 - Celeron, Intel Celeron D Processor 330 (2.66GHz, 533 FSB) Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition. My video card is, Intel(R) 82865G Graphics Controller.
You may need to uninstall and REINSTALL you graphics/video drivers.

Solve : is my computer running on a 3GB drive??

Answer»

my computer has two disk drives. the C drive is 35 GB and the E drive is 3GB. everything i install is saved into the smaller drive. so i pretty much have no programs on my computer because of that. i cant install anything without it telling me that there's not enough disk space. how do i change my computer so that it starts saving on the C drive? or do i need to install a new hard drive? When you save sth does it offer you where to save? I mean when you install a program it should show you the location where it 's gonna save the it. So you can change it to the other drive just choosing browse.

[Saving disk space - attachment deleted by admin]yes it does. i change it so that it saves in the larger drive but it still tells me there's not enought room because of the smaller drive. What are the free SPACES in both drives?Right click on the c:// go to properties and TELL US the size on the C: drive there's 11.4GB of free space.
on the E: drive it's always changing. when i turn it on there's usually less than 100MB so i always end up doing a disk cleanup. but that usually doesn't help so i restart and then it'll usually have at least 200MB. but then it goes down again when i use the internet, until everything stops WORKING and pages close because there's no more disk space left on the the E: drive.

I would suggest adding another drive for storage...3G is not much for TODAY's overly bloated programs etc.

Solve : USB to USB 2.0?

Answer»

I installed a USB 2.0 into my computer however I do not have the driver to enhance my CONTROLLER to a USB2.0. I believe it came with the USB2.0 but I can't find it. Can I download a driver for it?What TYPE of device did you install ? ?
This is unclear.
A machine either has USB 2.0 or it doesn't...
You can install a PCI USB CARD that will support USB 2.0I don't know the terminology.
I bought a 4-port USB2.0 thing that I PHYSICALLY put into my computer. It is being READ as a USB1 and not 2.0. I believe I need a driver to make it work as 2.0 as it came with one but I no longer have it.
Thanks.Quote from: slafa23 on September 22, 2007, 09:52:51 AM

Can you post back here with the manufacturer name and model number of the card that you inserted?
Any and all descriptive info about it is good.

With that info, maybe somebody here can help you.

Which windows are you using? If you are using windows XP,
you should have the service packs installed. SP/1 is most
important for USB support.

Solve : Computer graphics messed up...?

Answer»

i have recently switched back from linux to xp and.... now i cant get above 640, 480 (don't tell me to GO to start, control panel, etc... because a) im not an iddiot and b) im a geek ) i had windows and it worked just fine (graphics-wise) and when i went to linux....nvm thats another story... so i went back to windows and my graphics are stuck

---tried solutions---
start, control panel, display, and yada-yada --didn't work
download graphics drivers from gateway (monitor type)-- said graphics card not supported
graphics card driver (honestly no clue what it is but i think intel celeron b/c of a sticker)--downloaded, installed (completely), rebooted, and got bull.
HECK even gone into system BIOS, changed the boot speed to a slower ONE (or some bull like that) and still---B-U-L-L

I also went to Start, run, typed in "dxdiag", went to display and (in the box) got this:

The system is using the generic video driver. Please install video driver provided by the hardware manufacturer.
To test DirectDraw functionality, click the "Test DirectDraw" button above.
Direct3D functionality not available. You should verify that the driver is a final version from the hardware manufacturer.

Im in a rut... any answers can REALLY help me out. and when im going to forums-I need help.

Thanks in advance-- liam

OH!
P.S. Ive REINSTALLED windows sp2 and didnt work
P.S.S. ( do you have to start with windows xp, then go to sp1 then sp2 or somthing?)1. Start
2. right click my computer
3 click mange then device manger
4. expand display adapters - click your GPU
5. Make sure its responding ok by looking in the information box
6. update your GPU drives or roll back to a previous driver installed.

You didnt mention this.....Your graphics driver is not Intel Celeron...that's the processor...CPU for the layman. I hope I didn't make you feel like an idiot.

BTW...go back to Gateway...and look for the drivers for your graphics card...there may be more than one...

Good luck.
