Solve : looking for intel 865pe chipset intallation utility...?

Answer»

At Intel.com if you choose the 865 chipset drivers then select vista (ultimate/any version) x86, all you get to choose from are install versions 8.3.0.1013, 8.2.0.1014, and 8.1.1.1010. All of those versions end up only supporting the p35/q33 chipsets (even though on the site it says it supports 865pe).

I have installed the older intel chipset drivers before on the same machine with vista, but i DONT remember the chipset version that i installed. Ive looked everywhere but cant locate them at all.

I desperately need these inf files because i cant install the drivers for my video card (agp8x ati/diamond x1650pro 512mb) without them.

so if anyone can post some info or a link directly to a Vista compatible 865pe chipset installation utility it would be GREATLY appreciated.

thanks very very much for your HELP Everything I COULD find reading up on this led me..

This driver has a setup file makes things EASIER.

Street1:

I've noticed in other threads that you can sniff out drivers.

I poked around here:
ftp://ftp.logitech.com/pub/techsupport/mouse

Check out mouse.txt . See if you think mouse.exe is what Stefanos D. needs.
If that one is not it, it sure looks like it should be somewhere in that directory.

Well,WillyW when you double click on M83setup.exe in your
link and download it ,thenExtract those files to a FOLDER..You
then have a copy of Disk1 and Disk2. Looks PRETTY good to me.

Solve : Is my system too old to find drivers? (PLEASE HELP)?

Answer»

Hi Everyone!

I recently switched over to ATT/YAhoo high speed internet from broadband. The installation disk notified me that I needed to install an ethernet adapter so I installed a Trendnet TEG-PCITXR 32-bit 10/100/1000Mbps Copper Gigabit Ethernet adapter into my HP Pavilion 8670C (Intel PENTIUM III PROCESSOR, Windows XP, 30 GB hard drive and a 128 MB memory.)

I made sure that the adapter was firmly pressed in place and SCREWED in. I ran the installation disk that came with the product but right off the bat I noticed that it never gave me the option to "select drivers" as it said that it should have in the instruction manual that came with it.

After installing the ethernet adapter software anyway, the ATT/Yahoo installation program STILL says that it can't find the adapter.

I called ATT/Yahoo and they told me that it sounded like I needed the "disk drivers" which would be on the installation disks that originally came with the computer (WHICH I DON'T HAVE) or I needed to get it from Hewlett Packard (the maker of the computer).

I called HP and they said b/c the computer is so old, they don't carry the disks anymore.

My question is: WHAT EXACTLY do I need and is there any other way to get it???
GoHere

Thanks, to Constable Calum. COL!!THANK you for the info! I did go there and I FOUND the recovery CDs for my computer.

I do have a couple of questions:
1. It says that it's for use with Win 98, I have Win XP...does that mean that it won't work?

2. If I use the recovery CD's will that erase everything on my computer?

3. This is a novice question obviously, but are "recovery CDs" the same as "Disk Drivers"...or do they INCLUDE the "Disk Drivers"?

I appreciate the help!

=)
Have you tried it in another PCI slot?

Here <--is a list of Trendnet adaptors and drivers.

I PERSONALLY did not find drivers for windows XP maybe they are not
needed,or the Windows 2000/2k drivers will work.

Edit: the recovery cd would cause you to lose everything because
it would restore your computer to like it originally came from the
factory.

Yours used Windows 98.

Solve : Updating My Video Driver?

Answer»

I am currently in the process of trying to update my video drivers and want to make sure I am downloading the correct drivers. It SHOWS I have Intel(R) 82810E Graphics Controller. I found an update here http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=35302&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=92934&os=228&lang=en
and I am not sure if that is the correct update. I don't KNOW how to check to see if my drivers are outdated or not.
Any help would be much appreciated! are you saying that you use onboard graphic?
Or graphic card?
SOMETIMES people get confused by this
I Think here it is,
http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/win/36267
but before you install it, check the date first (2002-01-23)
isn't that an old driver? If it's older than you USING no need to install ok.http://downloadcenter.intel.com/scripts-df-external/Product_Filter.aspx?ProductID=798

You didn't mention your OS, which is why I linked to the "select an OS" page rather than the DIRECT download.
That's the last driver they have developed, it's a very old chip so there will be no more updates.
Hope this helps, and welcome to the forum.

Solve : Video Mode Initialization Error?

Answer»

Hi all. I am having trouble with an error I get each time I try to start a recently installed game. I receive the following error: VIDEO mode initialization error. Please contact your video card vendor to obtain the latest video drivers.
At risk of sounding foolish, how do I find out who my video card vendor is and where do I go to get the latest drivers? Any help would be much apppreciate. Thank you. Try this :

1.Click Start, click Run, type dxdiag in the Open box, and then click OK.
2.In the DirectX Diagnostic dialog box, click the Display or Display 1 tab.
3.In the Device pane, note the value that is next to Approx. Total Memory, and then click Exit.
4.If you have less than 16 megabytes (MB) of video memory installed on your video adapter, install ADDITIONAL video memory on your video adapter, or install a video adapter that has more video memory.

You also could try updateing your video cards drivers.....

Solve : Why two hard dives?

Answer»

I have a Packard Bell with 2 hard drives 1x HDD (c)
the other is 1x Data(D).

When do I use the one marked Data (D)

And why have two . One could be a partion drive

With hard drive capacities growing so large [now 1-TeraByte], intelligent partitioning has become an issue.

HARD DRIVES are like houses, because each house (hard drive) has its own rooms (partitons). Houses come in DIFFERENT sizes, and may contain any number of rooms (partitions). They can also be expensive, and some are built better than others.

Adding a second hard drive to your system is like buying a vacation home at the shore or the lake. It could be used to store all your digital Media, such as your MP3 collection, your lossless audio files, or photographs.

• PARTITIONS are like rooms in a house, because they separate different parts of a house into distinct areas for different purposes. For example, the KITCHEN for COOKING, bedroom for sleeping, gaming room for playing Counterstrike. Likewise, you can create a partition for all your Games, and another to store your Back-ups, etc.

Hey,Spero-T....Real good discription. I like that. Thanks ! Very creative, Spero.

Another thing I think I'll go ahead and mention:
As some of you might know, if you're copying something from C:\ to another directory in C:\, the copying could be done in about 5 minutes (depending on file size) but if you're copying a file from C:\ to C:\ and at the same time, a file from D:\ into D;\, the time for copying will be like 20 minutes because it's like being in two rooms in once

"Why two hard drives."

All of your replies were informative & very helpfull

Especialy to me as I am still going through the learning curve

Admiral No swet...

But you cant thank me... I did nothing....

it was all Radified..... Yup, to me, windows exists on one drive, and other stuff exist on second drive (maybe backup).

So... drive 1 is where I live, and drive 2 is my summer vacation house. elxr06 mentioned having windows on one hard drive and everything else on a second, is this a better way to use two hard drives? As opposed to having windows and all your programs and media on the same hard drive. Would you keep all your media and drivers on the second drive? There's nothing here to say that C: and D: are different physical hard drives, they may just be partitions on the same hard drive. Like all electronic/mechanical devices a hard drive can fail at any time and if you only have one hard drive, even if there are two partitions, you lose the lot, operating system, programs and data, none of which might be recoverable..

With two physical hard drives, one (generally the slave) can be used for backup by either using cloning software or simply copying. Regardless of which media type you decide to use for backup the backup should be updated regularly.

The operating system and programs can always be re-installed but data files created over a period are extremely difficult to rebuild.

Good luck on your learning curve Admiral

Hello johnvarles - welcome to the CH forums.

My PREFERENCE is to keep the operating system and programs in one partition (C:) on one physical hard drive, data files etc on a second partition (D:) on the same physical drive. Backup is a second physical hard drive which is a duplicate of the first (partitions E: and F:). Other long-term backup is burned to cd's.

Good luck.

Solve : My bios system won't boot up?

Answer»

Hi, I have a question about my computer.

To start, my computer was built with various hardwares I bought in SUMMER of 2001, I have also replaced the hard drive, the video card and computer casing before.

The problem: I was using my computer on tuesday when I walked out (it was working when I walked out) and I came back in. The computer screen was black showing the "no signal" sign and also my keyboard num lock light was not on. USUALLY that light will be on. I suspect a problem, so I tried restarting. All of the HARDWARE sounds correct during startup and the three lights on my keyboard (num lock, cap lock, scroll lock) lit up for a brief moment at startup (which is correct). Then the lights go blank and when the monitor comes on it shows "no signal". I don't hear any noise pointing to XP starting and I didn't hear any XP startup music. The cd drive, the mouse(the newer model without the ball underneith it), the USB extension port devices all has power. Even when I reconnect the keyboard in, all three light flashes for a moment, then goes blank. I was using a site TV.uk (or something like that) which has some free tv shows.

First I don't think it's a overheating issue since at the time my computer was at 91F and my computer have ran fine at 100F. I don't know if it was a virus attack, but I do have the latest version of AVG free and Zonealarm firewall installed and I regularly update it. I don't go onto random unknown sites, and I don't download random programs. I do use emule, but rarely. I suspect it's a bios error, because of the blank screen and the fact that even if I insert a flooy disk with my bios info or the MS-DOS start up disk it won't show anything. I inserted my winxp cd and the cd drives spins and then stops even before it was suppose to. I'm not sure if it's this exact problem or if it was something else.

How do I solve this?

System specs: My motherboard is Intel DB850 model. P4 1.5 Gh. 256 ram, ati 9200 128mb graphics card. creative live sound card. Toshiba CD-rw combo drive. 160 GB western DIgital harddrive. XP pro.

Thanks. The first thing you'll want to do is unplug the computer and disconnect any CABLES attached to it...

Open the case, being careful to protect the computer components from Electrostatic Discharge...by simply grounding yourself.

Using compressed air...and NOT A VACUUM CLEANER...remove any build-up of dust and debris around the vents, heat sink, CPU fan, and PSU fan.

Close the case, plug everything back in and reboot. It's a dust issue? It's still not working The BIOS doesn't just go bad normally and make a machine not boot...
The No Signal error usually points to either a vid card going bad or a loose connection.
Remove and re-seat the vid card CHECKING what Saviour suggested above and restart everything...
If it still does the same thing then swap your vid card into another machine to verify that it is failing...if it does the same thing in another machine it needs replaced.I don't think it was the video card problem because then the keyboard num lock lights should be on and the xp startup music should be heard. The lights are not on and I can't hear the music. Plus when xp loads I can hear "computing" (vibration) sounds inside the computer, I can't hear that either. I tried to start with the startup floopy disk inserted but the computer won't even read it.

I tried to clean everything and it's still not working. Are you sure it's not the power supply? Have you tried troubleshooting it?

If you have a spare one laying around the house, you may want to try using it. PSUs are tricky...they can fail completely...or intermittently.

Here's a good read: Power Supply TroubleshootingWhy would you think it's not the vid card after recieving a no signal error message ? ?

You're eliminating things before they have been diagnosed.
Swap in a working vid card.
Swap in a working PSU as suggested.
Other than that just more guesswork will ensue...

HI i have reasently purchased the dvd perfect stranger and as i allways do i tryed to make a backup copy for general use.afterwords i would place the original in to my collection to keep it pristeen.i use dvd shrink and dvd decrypter to accomplish this.an error MESSAGE came up in the dvd shrink program telling me that it can not complete the task due to unknown copywrite protection.so i shut down the program and tried it again, thats when i discovered my dvd rom no longer worked properly.the dvd rom will still read music cd's both original and burned.it will read dvd-r's that do not have copy wright matterial on it.it will not read dvd-rw's or dvd MOVIES both original and burned.i strongly suspect the dvd perfect stanger caused this problem.what i need to know is, is there away to get to the dvd rom to change the settings hoping that thats all thats needed.and if so how?or will i have to use the windows xp cd to repair the problem.my system is windows xp PRO version 2002 pentium 4 2.4 ghz 512 mb of ram custum builti hope i have explained my problem well enough.and i hope you can help.thank you all.Sounds like the DRM people are getting slicker...google for DRM movie listings and see if your title is on the list...I have heard of this happening...Sony released a Audio-CD a while back that when placed into a computer, silently INSTALLED a program that stopped their own disks running due to too tight DRM protection, and it killed 100's of computer's OSes across the globe. I heard a fix was to hold the shift key down while inserting the disk...This disables Autorun and it should work from there, though do it once to make the accesibility feature thing show up and disable the hotkey for it (hold shift for 5+ seconds) and then try the disk again

Solve : Formating my harddrive. Help!?

Answer»

Over the past few weeks, I have found my computer running slower, and slower. I wasn't too sure why, until about a week ago - when I download some free removal software, and virus scanners. A lot of spyware/trojans and such had attached themselves to my OS. I have REMOVED almost all of them, but I am afraid that I will never get rid of them all. So, I have decided to just start over clean and fresh, by reformatting.

But....

I don't have the current VERSION of windows disk, that I am running (I have an older MSXPPRO disk, with me), and no bootdisk. I have tried restarting my computer with the older MS XP PRO disk in the drive, and rebooting via disk drive (Not sure if i did it write or not.) And I can't simply just right-click on the haddrive, and FORMAT for more obvious reasons.. .. I seem to be stuck! Any suggestions? All the tutorials/guides that i've read, either end with me needing a Windows install disk (Which, mine is different version? older? bah) or, with a boot disk.

Any help / suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!Do you have a 3.5 floppy drive?Quote from: street1 on October 09, 2007, 04:25:13 PM

Do you have a 3.5 floppy drive?

Sure do.If you format your data is gone...how will you install Windows without a Windows CD ? ?I have an older version of Windows XP PRO disk. I just can't downgrade, from what I have currently (Somehow, a newer version?)Gotcha.
If you are confident the older ver. CD will work and you're ready to take the plunge AND have backed up all the data you need then travel to bootdisk.com and DLoad the bootdisk for WinME.

Solve : Reformated Hard Drive; New Install; Need Network Controller driver now?

Answer»

I formated hard drive on Toshiba, Portege 7000ct laptop, and installed win 2000, but can't connect to internet-lack of driver for network controller. Everest Home is attached. Not sure what other drivers I need so help would be appreciated. I can not do ms updates and can't download svs pack for win 2000. I have a red! at network controller!

[Saving disk space - attachment deleted by admin]The Everest report is empty...
Do you have a Toshiba CD labeled drivers ? ?
If so re-install the MBoard drivers and that should do it.I have NO Toshiba "anything" so I'm starting over.

I was in safe mode before when I copied to A: Drive and it didn't work apparently)

This is what you need driver for. Probably Intel web site would be the best place to find it.As a matter of fact, I found it for you here:
http://www.intel.com/design/network/drivers/index.htm
Look in:
82550, 82551QM, 82558, 82559 and 82562 DriversThe drivers listed will not work; I've used them all..one at a time. Intel site did not have correct driver either and now searching through Toshiba.

I keep getting messages that my AGP is disabled and ASPI is not working. Are there drivers for these as WELL? In device mgr, I have ? mark on other devices and ? and ! marks on network controller but no info on mfg. or driver info..the location is cardbus slot (PCI bus 20, device 0, functior) and the status is: the drivers for this device are not installed. Should I uninstall the device? Or try finding driver? Here is a listing of available drivers for that machine.
Have you contacted Toshiba ? ?

I would try This One FirstToshiba is a pain!!!
I used to have Toshiba rig, and their support is just non-existing!!!
Now...

What do you mean by, they won't work?
How did you install them?
You download this:
Controllers, Intel® 82550 FAST Ethernet Controller, Intel® 82558 32-bit PCI Bus LAN
It comes in self-extracting ".exe" file.
You run it, then you go to Device Manager, right click on "network controller" (that one with "!"), and click "Update driver".
Windows can't find it, or what's the story? As for:

I'm not sure, but I think, it has something to do with your CD/DVD drive.
Where is it listed in your Everest?

Solve : Windows 98se won't take any network card?

Answer»

OK, I have tried 3, yes 3, network cards....2 were new, 1 was not

new card #1, had 98se drivers, seemed like that 5 volt issue from my first post, ANOTHER site online even stated that that card does not work with 5 volt PCI slots

old card had 98se drivers, same exact errors as the first new card, 5 volt PROBLEM

new card #2 from my manager at work, it got different errors than the first 2 card I tried, I know for a fact it works with 5 volt PCI, my manager has used the same model card on 5 volt PCI slots

Now, new card #2 I know should work with 5 volt PCI and Windows 98se and it's not working correctly, I have no idea why.....if I buy a fourth network card, I think I will just be wasting money that I don't have to spend

To me it does not look like a hardware problem with the card or motherboard, but instead it seems like a software roblem, with 98se or the drivers.....but I could be wrong, since I often am, in fact, an idiotUNOFFICIAL Windows98 SE Service Pack 2.1a

just an idea.....last thing I could think of friend.

http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4131.html
You're not an idiot...an idiot would have given up without a solution...
Try SWAPPING in a known working PSU of equal or greater wattage...use the newest card.
Also try another device in that same slot such as a modem or sound card just to eliminate the slot as the culprit.I ALREADY tried the unofficial service packThere's a suggestion after that one...have you tried it ? ?Tried a sound card in that slot, worked fine.....I don't have a spare PSU, but it doesn't seem like a PSU issue Just an update, the card work fine in *censored* Small Linux, drivers build into the kernel

Solve : PCI device driver problem in WINXP getting error code 39?

Answer»

Hi,

I am using WinXP. I am having a problem with my audio driver. Going through the topics posted on your site, I tried all the options.

I can see the "Sound, video and game controllers" in the Device Manager and under it:
Audio codecs
Legacy Audio drivers
Legacy Video capture devices
Media CONTROL devices
Video codecs
For each of them it shows that the device is working properly and still Under System deivces I could see: PCI device with exclamation.
I want to INSTALL sound driver for the device.

But from the System Information TAB, I can see under Problem devices :

Device : PCI device and
PNP Device ID : PCI\VEN_1106&DEV_3288&SUBSYS_81E71043&REV_10\4&23B2F3EA&0&0898

Please help me out in the regards.

Solve : Help? Almost like DRIVER PROBLEM.?

Answer»

Just purchased a Hitachi external hard drive for my desk top (Dell with Pentium 4 {2.66}) The external drive shows up in Device Manager as Hitachi External Hard Drive with a yellow question maark next to it and it is under Other Devices. When I right click and select properties it tells me the drivers are not installed (code 28). Hitachi does not show up anywhere in STORAGE. I have tries picking through the drivers on Dell SUPPORT.
Any Ideas?
Thanks?Have you been to the device manager and tried update drivers?WOW, very quick response. Thanks.
Yes I have. It says that it was not installed because the software COULD not be located.
I should add. The reason I have not tried to reload all the software I because I have lost the password (imada) for the computer (fingerprint scanner handles logons and administrator password not visible). The external hard drive was to back everything up so I could reload with out loosing everything (and in case I did something else silly). Are you using windows XP?Yes. Windows XP SP2.Did you format it?

Go to CONTROL Panel, Administrative Tools , Computer Management , Storage , Disk Management. What do you see there ?The Hitachi does not show up under disk management. The system keeps trying to install the device but always says that it is unable to find the software.Just noticed that I seem to be having a problem updating any driver.

Due to a changing market, Kensington has made a very difficult business decision. As of 2001, Kensington exited the Imaging business in order to focus on other products.

As a result of this, Kensington no longer develops drivers for the #67014 Kensington VideoCAM, #67015 Kensington VideoCAM VGA, or the #67016 Kensington VideoCAM Super VGA. Thus, VideoCAM drivers for Windows XP or 2000 operating systems have never been developed, nor will be supported by Kensington.

Solve : OS Requirements for Upgrading from Windows 98 to XP?

Answer»

I meet all of the requirements for upgrading to XP exept one.
It requires 1.5 GB of available hard disc space.
My SYSTEM printout states I have Hard Drive C: 10988MB
What can I do to increase the Free Space?
Bob 10988Mb is APPROX 10.73Gb of spcae... You have more than enough to install XP.

Unless this is your hardc drive capacity?

EDIT: Please don't post your email address in any of your posts Thanks for your reply, this is the hard drive freespace, the totalspace is 13053, am attaching sys. diag. sheet.

[getting space - attachment DELETED by admin]You have plenty of space to upgrade to XP.

You will find quite a slowdown in speed with only
192MB of ram and a 400MHZ CPU.

It should work okay though......only much slower.

I assume you have a socket 370 PPGA processor.

If so the best you could increase to would be 533MHZ
CPU. The SSpecs are---->SL3FZ. See the link below.

http://www.cpu-world.com/sspec/SL/SL3FZ.htmlEdit your 1st post, and remove your email address, unless you want to get tons of junk mail there!!!Agreed, Street1, More than enough space but system will be very slow considering rest of the hardware.

Agreed, Street1, More than enough space but system will be very slow considering rest of the hardware.

Add another 128 stick of RAM and throw Win2K on there and you will have a HAPPY machine...I just upgraded RAM to 512 & ordered DSL high speed, which will bring me out of the dark ages of dial up.
I also am bidding on Windows XP upgrade.
My current processor is Intel Celeron 400MHZ
on my SIMILAR Gateway PC that just crashed, it has a Intel P2 Model5 448MHz processor, would this be worthwhile to swap it into my current PC for faster speed?400 MHz is pretty slow for an XP...

Remove all power to the laptop.
Pull the battery as well.
Remove the panel that covers the hard drive...you may have to check diagrams in the owner's manual.
Carefully remove and re-seat the hard drive.
Replace the battery plug in the UNIT and power up and see...

Alas, They never sent me an owners manuel even though i requested one.
Clik Here then read to the bottom of the page for a clickable link to a DLoad of your owner's manual...
It is in PDF format. So if you do not have Acrobat Reader installed then Clik Here and DLoad and install Foxit which is the best FREE .pdf reader.

Remember to SAVE the Owners Manual in a folder that you can find for future reference...Thank you so much Patio. I will download this when I am able and will keep in TOUCH on progress achieved.

First of all. Please don't POST in all capital letters. It's harder to read and in a forum/chat context it is considered the text EQUIVALENT of shouting.

Second of all. It doesn't sound good when you say the drive wont read discs most of the time. This could be a sign the drive is failing. How old is the laptop/cd drive?sorry about the fonts stuff buddy
the discussed notebook was bought in december 2005 and to the besst of my knowledge in this period this laptop was only used for newspaper reading ,haradly one cd was burned through it and rarely this drive was used movie stuff
one more thing i have download a utility from ibm that called pc doctor and has a test for drive chek and this test shows this drive was failed in all kind of test , so i guess it is gone

Solve : Do I need a different driver, or one at all??

Answer»

Ok, so I’ve got a shuttle computer http://eu.shuttle.com/archive/en/ss51g_faq.htm v.2. I got it from a friend and I’ve been FIXING it for a while now. I’m down to the LAST steps of getting it up and running well!!!

So, one of the problems was that the secondary video card that was in it had a blown capacitor. Only, that was a video card that was included with the system bought from the manufacturer, and I’m pretty sure the motherboard drivers for it are for that secondary video card. So, it also has an integrated video card, and that’s what I’m using, but what do I use for a DRIVER now? Is it the same driver as the secondary video card, is it a different one that I need to find, does it need one at all?

OH yes, and obviously I re-installed windows which is why I need to re-install the motherboard drivers.

Anyone KNOW?
What Windows version?
What do you have listed in Device Manager, under Display Adapters?Right, I have Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 2

Currently in device manager there is no display adapter category, and that's because i haven't installed the drivers for it yet, right? In "other devices" it says video controller (VGA Compatible)With most manuf. when a PC is sold with an add-on video card those drivers are on a seperate CD from the MBoard drivers.
Reason being during the course of a full production they may use 2 or 3 different add-on cards,
But they normally use the same MBoard so the drivers on your MBoard CD are for the onboard video.

Hope this helps.

Solve : No sound, driver installed (I think)?

Answer»

I bought my computer from a friend of a friend. The sound worked, but, after a short period of time, I absolutely wrecked the computer and was forced to reinstall windows without getting the drivers. I don't even know what they were. When I logged in, no sound was playing, and I kept getting error messages while playing music and games.

After a while, I installed a driver, (realtek '97, i think, but I don't know how to check). The error messages stopped, but no sound came through. Now it's as if I have no speakers. I also tried my headphones, which a know to work. In the device manager, there is a yellow -!- at Multimedia Audio Controller.

Now, Info:
The computer is custom built. I know the M/B is from gigabyte, but don't know which one.
It has 1GB Ram.
Windows XP Home.
The speakers are Logitech X-540.

Please Help!everytime you install fresh copy of windows, the audio driver are not included.
You need to install it with the disc came with the mobo or search by the web via manufacturer.
The error gone because you install a driver sound, but it's not capatible with that mobo.

That's the same audio driver I have now.Quote

After a while, I installed a driver, (realtek '97, i think, but I don't know how to check). The error messages stopped, but no sound came through. Now it's as if I have no speakers. I also tried my headphones, which a know to work. In the device manager, there is a yellow -!- at Multimedia Audio Controller.

Did you try install the driver?is there still yellow at the Multimedia audio controller?
With the correct driver it should be fine I think the driver's installed, it's icon is in the taskbar, and it's the right one. The yellow ! is still there
By the way, in the multimedia audio controller's properties, it says "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)"
Did you enable the sound in the BIOS ?

Solve : Can you help this old fool please?

Answer»

I apologise if this is a basic question, I am an old man struggling to keep up with technology.

My PROBLEM is that I have a file on a very old computer that I want to copy to disk and then TRANSFER to my new laptop.

When I try to copy this small Excel file onto my (D:) drive, it tells me that the folder is marked 'Read Only'. The machine says it is a CD recordable/rewritable machine.

I guess I just need to change it to read & write, but don't know how to do this. Any help much appreciated.Right click on the file name, select properties, uncheck read only, click apply, click OK.i just want to say, it's not too late too learn, and i respect the OLDER that have a big heart and still want to learn.

Just follow 2k_dummy.Thanks for the reply, HOWEVER it is not the file that is the problem, it appears the entire D; drive is read only and I can't put anything onto the disc.err, do you mean that you want to transfer the file into a blank disc?
then you have to burn it using nero ahead or other burning software, and not just that, you must have have a burner drive, can you cd drive burn disc? What is your D drive?
Where do you have that file, right now? On a floppy?

Solve : Keyboard[driver] turns on/off?

Answer»

Ok i have a dell computer and windows xp PROFESSIONAL and HID keyboard driver v5.1.2600.2180...
The keyboard is a usb, and yes i have attempted to put it into the other usb ports. Same result.

My problem is when I log ONTO my computer my keyboard randomly turns on and off... The keyboard icon disappears from the DEVICE manager and I cant type. The power to my keyboard is turned off...

It turns on and off at random; SOMETIMES it will constantly do it and sometimes it will stay off/on.

When it does it the computer makes the sound its supposed to when something is unplugged from the usb port.

If you need any more specs i will be more then happy to give them to you.Welcome aboard
Did you try another keyboard?yea but the computer wont read it....

thanks i feel welcomedTwo other things to try:
- update USB drivers
- get USB to PS/2 adapter, and try your keyboard in PS/2 jackI dont have a PS/2 spot...

Hold on im going to try to update my usb ports...there up to date

Solve : Intel graphics driver seems to be malfunctioning??

Answer»

I have a 3 year old HP Pavilion, running Win XP. 258 megs RAM, as far as I know all the service packs are current and I do run Ad-aware and Spybot, well I try to remember to do it weekly but it probably is more like every other week. I have McAfee though my free AOL broadband account.

LAST week when I booted up the comp, it started acting funny, kept restarting itself at different points in the startup sequence. Finally I somehow got it booted in full and it told me it had "recovered from a serious error" and microsoft told me it was my RAM and recommended I run a program "Windows Memory Diagnostic". I planned on doing it later, but then started having another problem.

A day or two later I booted up as USUAL and after a few minutes, the graphics driver (Intel 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV) stopped working, and gave me an error message to restart and that it would tell me what to do upon the restart. When I restarted it, it told me that the problem was the graphics driver needed to be updated/reinstalled, so I went to the Intel website and downloaded the correct driver and installed it. This fixed the problem.....for a few days.

Yesterday it was doing the same thing-restarting itself over and over when I tried turning it on, and I COULD only get it open in safe mode and had it revert back to a checkpoint for Saturday, which was what worked last week, if I recall correctly. The graphics driver has gone down, or windows has told me that the error was due to a device driver a few times. But the new driver is installed and seems to be working-I can see the icon in the tray as I type this.

I've reached the end of my own computer expertise at reinstalling the driver. If that's not working, I'm not sure what to do. I'm not sure if the problem is really something with the RAM or if it's the driver, but I've gotten the driver error many times and the RAM one once, before the driver problem started happening. I'm not sure what could have happened to set this off either, I haven't installed any new programs in the last few weeks. The last thing I installed was a Flickr uploader, and that was at the beginning of SEPTEMBER. If you have any advice on how to get this error to stop recurring, I'd love to hear it. Thank you.

If that is all it takes, then you are too easily irritated. Try our best and remain civil, you say monitor and I say Super Video GRAPHICS Adapter..You say GUI and I say Graphical User Interface..All these are for helping. Lord knows you cannot get thru to Microsoft and who wants help when they speak a foreign LANGUAGE.Uhm...I'm afraid I just asked a question about drives here.

But English isn't my first language so I here by excuse myself. I know it can seem a BIT bothersome at times, contrex, but you have to KEEP in mind that if people are asking for help here, they likely don't know much about computers and often don't know the difference between a drive and a driver. Everyone's a little ignorant about something. If you went a forum about frilly underwear, you might annoy a few people with your lack of knowledge. Unless you know a fair deal about frilly underwear, in which case my example isn't very effective.Doesn't matter same thing.Quote from: tommy gusack on October 29, 2007, 10:17:14 AM

Solve : BIOS update?

Answer»

ok, I downloaded a BIOS update for my IBM NetVista 8303. However, Im kinda scared to actually flash my BIOS because of some horror stories I heard.......

system specs:

Windows XP Professional
Intel Pentium 4 2.4 Ghz processor
512 Mb RAM
ATI Radeon 9600 128Mb graphics card
250 Gb hard drive......................BIOS only recognizes it as 120 Gb
DVD player
CD Burner
Floppy

my hard drive is BIGGER than detected, but i guess it is ALREADY formatted as 120Gb when I first installed windows, But I dont know if after flashing my BIOS and it detects my hard drive as 250Gb, if it will be able to boot into my OS.

The last thing I want is to reinstall everything, so will this BIOS update affect me in any way, shape, or form?? Why and How to Flash your BIOS

Download HDD Diagnostics from your HDD manufacturer, and use it to create a bootable CD. An incorrect flash COULD cause many problems.

Are you sure you have the right BIOS flash file?
Make sure you have the right one....and...do you really need to flash your BIOS, and why?the main reason i want to flash it is because I WANTED it to detect my whole hard drive not just part of it......

I got the BIOS flash from Lenovo web site..

I don't see the 8300 listed.

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-42952.htmlDo you have SP2 installed ? ?
A HDD SIZE limitation is not neccessarily a BIOS issue...unfortuantely I dont have service packs installed. Would getting these help out??

I'll get them and then see if it worksSP2 allows Windows to properly see HDD's bigger than 137G...
And it is a major OS upgrade as well. What patio said is nicely explained here:
http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/printpage/482/2
Quote
Windows ME, NT, 2000 and XP without SP1 or SP2 don't recognize hard drives over 128 GB as they don’t support 48-bit LBA addressing
...127.5GB, or 136GB depending on your GB definition...

Solve : Drives disappear suddenly?

Answer»

I have two CD/DVD drives. In the last couple of days, whenever I insert a disc into either of them, both their icons turn into what you see in the screenshot bellow.

The drives are nowhere to be found in My Computer, or with the Device Manager, or in any way imaginable. There's also no way to eject them until they spontaniously resume their function the next day or something (restarting the computer doesn't seem to help either).

I should also say that I've had the same hardware configuration for months and no problem until a few days ago, so I don't think the problem is some sort of power lack.

So if anyone can help, it would be appreciated.

By the way, I'm using XP Professional if it's of any importance.

edit: it was just brought to my attention that this is a section about drivers, not disc drives. Well, sorry about that. I CHOOSE to blame it on Microsoft. When you right click on any of those funny named icons (I assume, those name are not FAMILIAR to you), click Properties, what do you have there?
Did you try System Restore?
All Windows updates, security check up to date?Actually, I made those names (renamed the desktop shortcuts only, not the drives). When I right click -> properties it says that they point to E:\ and F:\ (which is correct) but then it informs me that E:\ and F:\ don't exist and asks me if I want to delete the shortcut.

Windows updates and security are up-to-date.

I'm hesitant in using system restore until I've used up any other solutions people might suggest.I don't understand why some people are so afraid of System Restore...
It's the easiest way to FIX things, if they are fixable through System Restore.
It won't remove any data, or programs...
Just wondering...Yeah, when I first got my computer I used system restore a few times in a row and next thing I knew my computer was slower than a smoked up turtle carrying a pile of bricks on its back. Not sure if it's connected but I'd rather try something else this time.

Besides, I'm very interested in the cause of this problem, the solution will come once I know it. Giving your PC shock therapy isn't the answer to everything.Oh, and now I can eject the drives, but the situation is the same apart from that. They're still non-existent ACCORDING to Windows.Quote

Giving your PC shock therapy isn't the answer to everything.
I'm sorry, but I have to disagree. System Restore is a legitimate Windows tool, not a butcher.OK, my Linux installation CD just got left inside a drive when it went MIA again. And when I say *my CD* I mean *CD I borrowed from my teacher*.

Tried system restore, doesn't work.

I'm losing my *censored* mind.

Is there anyone who can tell me what is going on or do I have to open the drive with a crowbar in order to retreive the CD, which I have to return tommorow? There is a pinhole on the FRONT of the drives...straighten out a paper clip and insert it pressing gently til the drive door opens...

I would then delete your desktop shortcuts...travel to Device Manager and right clik each drive and select uninstall. You will get an error message...ignore it.
Re-boot and Windows will automatically re-install the drives.
You can then re-create the shortcuts and you should be good to go.
