Solve : Asus intergrated "Soundmax"audio card wont work on Windows7,w/e I do.Desperate!?

Answer»

Yesterday I upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate (build 7600), after which my integrated Soundcard  didn't work.

"SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD Audio".
On a  ASUS P5B-E Plus Rev 1.xx  Mobo.  (  3 years old I believe, BIOS: 0636 07/15/2008 (final one)

I  tried all the drivers I could find  , nothing worked. (I'll send a list if asked)
( I am aware of the default settings issue ; HDMI or Speakers)

Than I came here on the forum chat. And I was helped and we performed some  (processor)  updates.
Still  nothing.

If I make device manger do a search  for a better driver it tells me this is the best one, and it is working correctly. And INDEED this  is the only one that gives me the systray app.
(its the one thats  in the "win 7 "folder , inside the  "AD1988AB_Audio_V6585_XpVistaWin7" folder.

If I do a SOUND test there, it performs it without a problem.
Yet there is no sound.

Of the files I got send here last night, I could not get the  "TurboVEVO_V10105_XPVistaWin7" INSTALLED.
("cant set strings,"cant set string values" and another similar error I forgot )

Another (promising) file link I got send  was the "AD1988AB_Audio_V6585_XpVistaWin7"
I tried a few things there,  but TBH  there are so many seemingly relevant exe files in there, that  there are (too) many possible orders in which to install them.I could use some help there.

Although I am an experienced USER,it's not helping me  trying to get this solved to put it mildly...; reading, searching and trying for 14 hours now!!!!!   Yet all to no avail.

I have a dying and very noisy hard disk in my system, that I only want to start up once to try to get important files from. Still I forced myself to boot from the XP pro Installation on it.
Sound worked.......

I am nearing the end of my abilities as well as my patience with  a "minor"thing as getting a working  audio driver. Yet I really like to have windows 7 for several reasons.

Anyone reading this got a clue what is going on here?
Something to try?
Even a wild guess?
Anything very welcome here.

THX in advance!

Solve : Problem Playing Discs?

Answer»

Whenever I put in a disc I can hear it spinning , but nothing appears on my screen. I need to load my new Kaspersky Internet SECURITY and I don't what to do.  EVERYTHING was working FINE until recently. Today I got an external drive because I assumed the disc player was broken. This isn't working either.  I still cannot view anything! Something must have been corrupted or removed for this to happen. Can anyone help me?
I am using a Sony Vaio laptop and running windows xp professional.Try removing the laptop's disc drive and gently/lightly rub(clockwise or counter) the lens just with a SOFT cotton cloth. Careful not to scratch the lens. It might just be dusted. Click start then click My Computer. Does the CD drive show up there? What happens when you double click on it? You can obviously disregard this advice. Quote from: JJ 3000 on January 28, 2011, 11:49:05 PM

I double clicked the dvd-rw drive (e) and that page is empty.  What can I do?Does it read any CDs? Is it just the one that you have the problem with? Quote from: JJ 3000 on January 29, 2011, 11:36:31 PM

It makes  noise like it's loading when I insert a cd or dvd, but thats it. Nothing appears.  Same thing happens when i plug in the external drive. So when you have any CD in the laptop's CD drive, or the external CD drive and you go into My Computer and double click either drive, you GET a blank page. Is that right? Quote from: JJ 3000 on January 30, 2011, 12:26:23 AM

I put a  kaspersky cd in the drive, went to my computer, double-clicked and kaspersky was listed. I was able to download it from there. Thanks for the info.
However, I am still concerned why nothing loads automatically the way it did before. I still don't know what is wrong or what could have caused this.
Autoplay is disabled, click on the link and follow instructions.

Solve : Hard drive speed?

Answer»

I need to purchase a new hard drive for my laptop. I'm concidering forking out a few more $ for a 7200 RPM drive. I don't store a lot of data, but I want it to run as fast as possible, use it mostly for the internet. Any thoughts on if there would be much noticeable DIFFERENCE between a 5400 rpm and a 7200 rpm drive? THANKS!Sounds like a good plan. Intel is a good idea to have next to hard drive on hand.
You say that you don't store it much data and the your primary use is the Internet. In those circumstances getting a faster hard drive would be of little value. The better choice would be to buy more MEMORY.

Here is the reasoning about this. There is a relationship between datastorage size and speed. The more data you have the more important speed becomes. But if you have a small AMOUNT of data the speed factor becomes less important. In effect, a drive with a small amount of data on it is, on the average, much faster than a drive that is full of data. Of course there are other factors, such as disk fragmentation and what kind of programs that use PC has.

So then,, in my opinion you should max out the memory first and then think about the hard drive later.

Solve : I've accidentally deleted my sound driver!?

Answer»

Hello! I deleted my sound driver last JULY and have finally decided that I need it back. I have tried reinstalling it with the driver CD, but whenever I insert that into my computer, it tells me it has experienced a problem and needs to close.
I know a lot of people have posted similar problems and have been given links to things to download that work for their specific computer and I was hoping maybe? somebody would know what I should download?
Thanks so much! You haven't given us any information about your PC... model/manufacturer?Sorry but what information do you need?
My computer is a gateway... running on windows XP... what do you need and how do I find it? Sorry I'm not great with computers. What company was it manufactured by (e.g Dell)
What exact model number (e.g Dell, Dimension 2400)

If you have a manual for your computer found out the info we need on that.Open device manager and go to the sound device - what is the make and model?"device manager and go to the sound device"
how?

sorry... we don't have the manual Control Panel - Device Manager - Sound DevicesAh. well when I go there, it says there is no audio device.Download and run Everest (http://www.lavalys.com/) and see what it says about your sound device please--------[ EVEREST Home Edition (c) 2003-2005 Lavalys, Inc. ]------------------------------------------------------------

Solve : Desperate for BIOS help Acer Aspire 9300?

Answer»

I have an Acer Aspire 9300-5317 that runs Windows XP and has 2gb RAM and has been working perfectly.  Today I found it had shut off overnight and when booting did not RECOGNIZE USB ports and had an error surrounding the BSCOM or Bisonbar.exe that I believe had to do with the Acer Orbicam that I dont really use.  I deleted that registry entry and spent all day trying to fix the USB ports since they are hot to power but have no data flow.  i.e. The mouse laser lights up but WONT move the cursor.  I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the USB ports even though they were not reporting errors.  Then I tried removing the batteries and power for a few hours as I read this had helped a few people.  Finally, in desperation I decided to update the bios when the cmos did not reset.

It had been running Phoenix V 1.09 and I downloaded the NEW BIOS v.1.20 from Acer's website. http://support.acer.com/us/en/drivers_download.aspx
In windows with all applications closed, I opened and unzipped the download and ran it.  The last message I saw was something saying it was successful, then the computer began to reboot and went to a black screen.  All I see now is the lit power button and the dvd/cd tray light flashes occasionally and I can hear the fan running.  I have tried holding downt he power button a few times to force a reboot and the same thing happens.

What have I done and is there anyway to undo it?

Thanks,

ErikIn the case of a laptop your only choice is to take it to a factory authorised service center.Although the news is disappointing, thanks for your help.

A factory authorized service center would likely cost more to repair it than the computer is worth is my guess.  What needs to be done and what did I do exactly in case I try to sell it for parts on eBay?  I want to know how to describe the PROBLEM.  Also, from what I read, that bios update should have been okay: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=231463

Maybe the BIOS chip needs to be replaced is what I am guessing?  Is there some reason other than the sheer logistics of replacing that chip in a laptop that makes it worth not trying?  Or is that not even what needs to be done?

Thanks!Correct...
That is what's needed to be done.
If you've ever seen the cramped innards of a laptop MBoard you'ld understand why they charge a premium.

Last resort you could scour the Acer Forums to see if anyone's been successful reverting /flashing back to the old BIOS revision. Thanks Patio!

Since it's a parts computer at this point anyway, I may as well try to pull it apart to find the bios chip.  In worst case, it's still parts computer.Go for it...

Solve : Error when Re-Installing Sound Driver for Sony Viao with Windows XP?

Answer»

I am really in dire needs of sound on my laptop.  I have a Sony Viao model VGN-FE790.  It has Windows XP.  It has been through a system recovery and completely wiped clean and re-installed.  Aparently my sound driver was not re-installed.  I went to the Sony support SITE and tried downloading.  At the end I get the error message that the driver installed is not for this model.  The site said otherwise.  My computer does not list ANY drivers for sound so I have no idea which one i need to re-install.  Can anyone help me? Download System Information for Windows: http://www.gtopala.com/siw-download.html to your Desktop.
Get SIW Standalone (English-Only).
Double click on siw.exe to run the program.
Go File>Create Report File>HTML
Save the file to known location.
Zip the file, and attach it to your NEXT reply.after i click run a window pops up stating:

C:\Documents and Settings\April\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IES\JSW9C9N6\siw[1].exe is not a valid Win32 application

?Right click and run as administrator.in the RUN AS ADMIN window, it is prompting me for a password and i have no clue what that COULD beI'm sorry. You're with XP. For some reason, I thought, you're with Vista.

I'm not sure, why SIW wouldn't work.

Let's try something else.

Download, and install Everest Ultimate Edition 4.6: http://www.lavalys.com:8081/everestultimate460.exe
Enter following registration code (Help>Enter product key) to make it fully functional:
RHGJE-54X47-HML9C-V498I-UUMVI
(it's all legal, the above version has been recently offered as a free download)

In left pane expand Computer folder.
Click once on Summary
In upper menu, go Report>Quick Report-Summary
Save it in text file, and paste it in your next post.
Don't include anything under the line Debug - PCI

this is the result.  hope i saved correctly! thank you for all your help thus far!

Solve : Unidentified Driver installed?

Answer»

Twice now a window has appeared :

"Driver Software Installation

Unknown Device installed

The software for this device has been successfully installed.

Unidentified Device            Searching Preconfigured driver folders... "

I'm at a loss to understand what this means - no new device has been added and I don't know where to look to track it down.  Advice and suggestions appreciated.
1) Look in device manager - any errors?
2) Do a complete system scan with BOTH your anti virus software AND MalwareBytes
3) At what point do you see that message?Allan - thanks for reply.

I did look in Device Manager when I first saw the message, and again this morning - I could see nothing to suggest an error, but I really didn't know what I was looking for.

I'll scan again with Avira antivirus and MalwareBytes to see if I can SPOT just when in the process the message appears (I presume that is what you mean).

I did both scans yesterday as part of another query that I had, and POSTED logs for them - if it's any use to you they can be seen in my post under Viruses and Spyware "Email problem/query" Feb 23.  They both showed all clear.Didn't mean to confuse you - the scans will have nothing to do with when the message appears, I just want to RULE out MALWARE as a POSSIBLE cause. I would, however, be interested in knowing when the messages appear (separate and apart from the malware scans) ie, when the system first boots to the OS, when you try to run a specific program, when you connect a usb device, just randomly, etc. Thanks.
OK, will do.

Solve : CD Rom not reading disk?

Answer»

LITE-On Combo SOHC-5236v not reading a Garmin disk inserted. No conflicts on manager, DEVICE working, no updates for driver, uninstalled and restarted, still nothing. Will not read disk automatically and when enter E:\setup I get a box that says E:\ not accesible. RUNNING XPDoes it read any other CDs?
Did you try Garmin CD in another computer?Just a few questions,
1. Do you know what is on the disk you are TRYING to read?
2. Do you know what speed the information on the disk was burned at.
3. If it is from someone or some other region  and have you given permission to you PLAYER for the correct region?
4. what player are you using to play the cd?

i know it may seem alot of questions but these are things you NEED to askGarmin is a factory produced data CD...and would not have region codes.

Solve : (1st Self Build) What order to load all the software, drivers ect . . .?

Answer»

Hi. I'm putting together my 1st self-build and need a bit of help in the info DEPARTMENT. Here's what hardware I have;

WINDOWS XP 32 (only until I purchase windows 7)
Antec 300 case
Gigabyte GA-P55-US3L mobo
Intel i5-750 CPU
Nvidia Geforce GTX285
Corsair vx550w PSU
Corsair (2x1gb) TwinX XMS3 DDR3
Samsung 500gb HD502HJ SpinPoint F3
LiteOn IHAP122-19 22x DVD+and-, 8xDVD
Saitek PK 02AV Eclipse II Wired Keyboard
Kensington Wireless Laser Mouse
22" Digimate - DGM L-2262WD Black, Widescreen LCD

Putting all the parts together was relatively easy. What I need is a little help with the order to install the software and drivers and when to go into the bios (and what I'm doing in there).

I couldn't find anything on the internet that gives this specific info. I'm presuming, as it seems logical, that you ENTER the bios 1st to tell it that the operating system can be found in the optical drive. Then you load the operating system from the optical drive . . . and that's about as much as I know.

From what I have I seem to be looking at the bios, the os (and any updates), drivers for hard drive, optical drive, mobo driver and updates (if needed) but if there is anything else then PLEASE let me know.

Any and all help will certainly be appreciated.MBoard chipset drivers 1st...
Then the rest of the order doesn't matter...

Solve : Changing operating systems and drivers?

Answer»

Hi, I have a laptop. It originally had windows vista installed working fine. Then one day I decided I didnt like it,uninstalled and tried to install windows xp from disk.

Done that and then when I started using my new XP version I forgot about all the drivers that go with it and now I have a big mess. I was wondering is there any way I can just go back to vista how my laptop was originally set.? I dont care about any data I have saved,I just want all my funtions to be working. I tried to get the specfic device drivers for my xp version which I have installed now but im runnin into so much problems just cant seem to find the right ones. Either way I just want my laptop back working and doin the basics again. Basically am askin which option should I take and how do I go about doing it

1. Get back to vista with all CORRECT drivers how my laptop came in the box or

2.keep my current windows home editon xp and find the correct drivers.

Eithjer way am not sure what to do.I just want everything to be able to run right again

any help greatly apprectiated
1) Either one - you decide. But either way you will need the original OS disc and the appropriate drivers UNLESS your laptop has a built in recovery partition
2) If I were you I'd remove my email from the post. NEVER post your email address on a forum unless you want to be spammed incessantly. There are bots that do nothing but scour the web for email addresses which are then sold to spammers. How do I know if it has a built in recovery partion? On my D Drive ther is a folder called 'RECOVERY'.Could this be it?
So you think my best option would be to get the windows vists disk install it and the orginal drivers yea?Your CHOICE. I always prefer a clean format and starting from scratch, but that's me.

And yes, that would be the recovery partition.Well what is the recovery partion? sorry if these seem like lame questions. Yea I agree id like to get back to scratch.Does this recovery partion have my files backed up is it?

I just want everything working again, all drivers working. doesnt matter if I lose any programs. I have my laptop here beside me so if you could point me in the right direction for getting it working again id greatly appreciate it.The recovery partition should get you back to the way the system was the day you GOT it. Nothing else. What type of computer is it?Its a HP G6000 Laptop, Well when I look in the recovery folder and click into it its just empty? does that make sense
The recovery partition should be hidden. If you can access it and there is an empty folder, that isn't good.

Here's a link to using HP's recovery Solution. See if it works for you. If not, you'll have to format and install the OS from scratch (which isn't such a bad thing). If that's what you end up doing, download ALL drivers from the HP website.Yea its just a folder called recovery but theres nothing in it! Where you SUPPOSE to post a link ther? :/ maybe not! umm...Right so my best option would be,
1.get vista disk.install from scratch
2.then download drivers from site.

yea? pity I cant find the *censored* vista disk oops - sorry: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=18703&docname=c00608578try this program it detects unknowing hardware in your system

Solve : DVD Burner will not recognize or burn CD-roms anymore.?

Answer»

I have a Lite-On DVDRW SOHW-1633S DVD Burner that stopped recognizing and/or burning CD-Roms.  It will not even recognize an audio CD.  Ironically it will still recognize, play and BURN DVD's just fine.  I have tried several different CD's to make sure it's not a problem with a particular brand but it's not.  I have been to the Lite-On website and downloaded what I thought was an upgrade but it won't work either.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

My computer specs:

HP PAVILION a1010n
Windows XP SP3
Intel Celeron D 2.93 GHz
1.49 GB of ram

If you need more info, I will gladly do so.

Thanks!
It looks like CD reading and/or burning laser(s) are out.Broni is right. Not the answer I wanted to hear  but I appreciate the response.  Guess it's time to beg the wife for another burner!  Thanks!! When shopping for a new burner, consider:
1. Brand name models.
2. One YEAR warranty.
3. Vendor with fair  return policy.

The third point is in case the problem was not really the DVD drive and you WANT to send the new one back.
Example:

Return Policies
Every product that you purchase from http://NewEgg.com has a Return Policy that defines the time period and limitations for returning the product. You can view all policy types on the Return Policy Page, or see the policy that applies to your purchased PRODUCTS on your invoice, under My Account.

Solve : Multimedia audio driver for Micron PC (Intel Motherboard D875PBZ)?

Answer»

I'm looking for an audio driver for the integrated audio on a Micron PC.  Micron is now bankrupt and their support website no longer exists.

I've searched both the Intel and Analog Devices sites, but cannot find the driver for this board.  Can anyone help me find the correct driver?

The PCI Device Instance ID is:
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_24D5&SUBSYS_E0068086&REV_02\3&267A616A&0&FD

(This didn't help me very much either).

Thanks so much!

- KevinWould you happen to have a model name of the Micron computer or any additional information or numbers on the computer?

Did you look at this:
Intel Desktop Board D875PBZThe reason I didn't specify which drivers exactly is because of my hope to get more specific drivers. But if you're WANTING additional information from that PCI string. Below is what is pulled from that information.

VEN_8086 = Intel
DEV_24D5 = multimedia audio device (codec AC97) SoundMAX or VIA

Personally I'd go for AC'97 drivers, if you can't identify more about this system: http://www.softwarepatch.com/utilities/ac97.htmlThanks guys for the help.  I really appreciate it!!!

Geek:
Yes, I have looked at the Intel page "Intel® Desktop Board D875PBZ".  The "latest drivers" link does not list audio drivers.

Admin:
The computer is an MPC Clientpro.
Model: D875PBZ-0DYD
Serial#: 3657702-0001

I've tried DOWNLOADING and installing both the RealTek and Via AC'97 drivers.  The RealTek drivers crash Windows (even old versions -- the oldest I've tried is 3.64.  The newest I've tried is 4.06).  The Via drivers don't work with the hardware.

The Intel site will not show the latest audio drivers because of the possibility of different audio chipsets (I believe). So it's going to be up to a third-party site in order to get the right drivers. Not knowing too much about the MPC brand lines I did a search for "MPC Clientpro and the D875PBZ" and came up with the MPC ClientPro 545, which led me to the same type of audio driver mentioned on the Intel site, which is: SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio Driver.

I was unable to find an exact download for any MPC computer so I had to find what I believe to be a generic driver. May want to GIVE this link a try.

Right, the Intel downloadss are a pain. But if you can identify you mobo exactly, you can often get the right driver.
Look at this:
http://tinyurl.com/64z6b2
This gives a list of stuff for XP pro for that board.
Look for :
INF_AllOS_8.3.1.1009_PV_Intel.exe
This helps the OS identify the type and name of driver needed.

Changed link to tinyurl so it works.

The ClientPro series used several different audio configurations from model to model.
Most common was the Realtec ac97 although versions differ from one model to the next. The MPC website closed down in March 2009, although the new support site is up and running at http://www.mpcdrivers.com

The ClientPro models are supported through the download link. All ClientPro models can be found under the "Base Units" link rather than the "desktops" link.I have the same issue and Intel did not recognize my set ups. I couldn't navigate the RECOMMENDED site to know what I am supposed to download for MultiMedia. Did the solutions above work for you? I should add that my PC is a rebuilt Micron PC, but the sound card is a Compaq and worked for quite a while until yesterday. I did look in the bios and audio is not listed so I could not check if it was disabled.Hometech suggest starting a new thread since this an older issue and if you're using a different sound card it's likely the issue is not the same.thx. replaced the card with another creative SB0200 and although all seems to be fine according to the checks, I still have no sound or audio. wondering about the MOTHERBOARD, downloaded current drivers but no success even after new devices are recognized.

Solve : XP Service Packs and Drivers?

Answer»

I'm a newbe at this so here goes.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A135-S2276 which came with Vista Home. Shortly there after I REMOVED Vista and replaced it with Xp. I am having driver issues. I know several need updating. But before I go through all that searching, would it be prudent to LOAD the updates and service packs? If so, should I install all of them or are there ones that are UNNECESSARY?

Thanks
Mad Cat

not REALLY mad just a bit off center. You should first install the chipset driver, then the other drivers, then update to SP3 and all other MS Updates. Get the drivers from the OEM websites, NOT from MS Update.Thanks. I APPRECIATE the help.

M.C.Just a heads up that'll save you some time/effort...SP3 is cumulaitive and can be installed right after SP1....
Saves the waste of time with SP2.Again, thanks. Any time saved is a blessing.

Solve : Intel driver question?

Answer»

I want to update my drivers for graphics, I have GMA X4500 graphics card by the way, I want to update it but apparently the one I have is modified by gateway and it SAYS that INSTALLING the intel one can mess up my computer, so I was asking if it will mess it up or if it is okay, Here is the exact message I got:
Quote

A customized computer manufacturer driver is installed on your computer. The Intel Driver Update UTILITY is not able to update the driver. Installing a generic Intel driver instead of the customized computer manufacturer driver MAY cause technical issues. Contact your computer manufacturer for the LATEST driver for your computer.
So what should I do?Seems clear to me.Why do you want to update your driver, the latest driver is not always the best one.
Unless there is a specific problem that you are having that is fixed in the new version then I would recommend leaving the old one alone.

Answer»

Hi there,
I purchased a USB to 25 Pin Parallel Printer Cable adapter Converter online a few weeks back.

* I have connected it to my printer, but nothing is working.
* I have also installed the correct printer driver onto my computer.
* I have also FOLLOWED the 'step by step' instructions but when I GET to the following part (please see below) nothing happens.
That is, NO DEVICE is detected.
"2. Plug in the USB to Parallel cable into the USB PORT and Windows will detect the IEEE-1284 device and run the Add New Hardware Wizard to assist you in setting up the new device. Click Next to continue."
Please can somehow advise I can fix this so that the USB adapter is workable?
Thank you in ADVANCE !!You did not say what OS you have. With Windows XP the installation should be automatic.

Maybe you should send it back to the vendor.

Solve : Downloading Dell Drivers?

Answer»

Hello.

I did a clean XP install on a Dell Optiplex 170L DESKTOP.  Now I need ethernet and video drivers.  I can't seem to access Dell's download websites; maybe there are too many other people trying to download?

Two Questions:

1) Is there another site I can get Dell drivers?

2) I'm using another computer to get the drivers (no ethernet driver in the Dell yet), when I download, do I "save as" and put on a cd or THUMB drive?

Thank you.Go to the website of your video card manufacturer for the video driver.

You did install the chipset driver, correct? Also, I just checked the Dell support site and there is no problem logging on.For whatever reason, Dell's download site is non responsive from here.  I installed the os from the Dell oem cd; I don't have the drivers cd.  The computer works--video vga only and no AUDIO or network.  I suppose their are chipset drivers or it wouldn't work, right?

So, is there another site with Dell drivers?  Do I just "save as" to put on a thumb drive? Quote from: McGuire on February 17, 2010, 06:16:29 AM

I suppose their are chipset drivers or it wouldn't work, right?

Wrong. You need to download and install the chipset driver first.

So, is there another site with Dell drivers?  Do I just "save as" to put on a thumb drive?

I don't know why you can't get to Dell Support, but I'd be concerned with that if I were you. But to answer your question, all drivers can be downloaded from the component hardware manufacturer websites. And yes, you can transfer the drivers to the system via usb drive, cd, floppy - whatever you like.
What happens when you click on this link? http://support.dell.com/support/ It hangs up half way through.  Strange, I get 5MB download!I have the same problem getting to redbox.com.I'd try Dell support from a different computer then. Obviously the easiest way to get your chipset driver is by entering your service tag number on their driver download page.

Or are you using an ad blocker or any other kind of UTILITY that interferes with browsing? You can also try a different browser. Thanks, I'll have to do that then (wish I knew why some sites can't come up from here?).  Or, I'll open up the computer case and get mobo/chipset info and go to the mfg's sites--do you think that will work?  Thanks again Allan! You don't need to open the case. Solve : no audio devices are installed - Toshiba laptop?

Answer»

The sound has quit WORKING on this laptop.  Can't say when it happened or what caused it.  My wife's laptop and she didn't notice.

It is a Toshiba Satellite U305-S5077, OS is Vista Home edition.

Sound Icon on the lower right has a red X beside it.

I have gone into the control panel - Sound - playback --(message) no audio devices are installed.

Went into Bios and set to factory defaults.  Nothing.

Went to the Intel website for it to do an updated or driver search, nothing showed up.

Below is the info from Everest application:

I have looked at other posts, they have been similar, but none of the solutions have solved my problem.  I have been working off and on this for a couple of days.

Help!!!

I am supposed to take this laptop on the road and can't without the sound.

All laptops should only get replacement drivers from the laptop source...
Travel to Toshiba Support and jump thru the hoops...Went to the Toshiba site and then to the forums.  Many people with the same problem but no solution that worked for everyone.

I have reinstalled the driver but the computer is still not recognizing that there is a sound card.

I will research Microsoft to see if there is a fix for it in the vista forum.  Seems like some people were successful with this approach.  Others still waiting for Toshiba to come up with a fix.

Any ideas anyone?

Solve : Youtube Videos Are Slow And Delayed And Not In Sync With Sound?

Answer»

Also, when I drag a screen it makes duplicate shadow/copies of the screen sometimes. I'm thinking its a chip-set/graphic problem. I have tried everything that I know of. When I reinstall the driver it says something about file broken or missing every time. Below is my report from Everest.

Is it obvious? Really? Next time I can do without the belittlement. Look, I appreciate any help I get here but I don't want to wait 2 days everytime to get a response like....."did you turn your CPU on?" Then 2 days later...did you download your driver??? I mean do really think I would copy my Everest report if I didn't check the basics? Again I appreciate the help but I will GO to another forum if this is how it is.  I understand I have to wait a bit to get a response. That's Fine. I'm very patient. But, at this rate...I could be somewhere else getting an educated solution in a far more timely manner because I'm not getting responses like "oh it's obvious (another words your an idiot)". You see when you reply with a message like that, then the other educated people on here bypass my thread thinking it's solved....Mr. Captain Obvious.Sorry for wasting your time, I will stop wasting yours aswell, good luck in trying to solve this issue. Solve : Video Card Driver Help, please??

Answer»

Hey all. I am new here, hoping someone can help me out. I just purchased a new VIDEO card for my computer, and can't seem to get a driver to install.

The card is a n-Vidia GeForce 9500GT 1GB PCI-E.

My computer has the following:
Gateway GT5014, Pentium D 2.8GHz, 3 GB of Ram

Can anyone help me out please?Forgot to add, this is the warning that I am getting:

"The NVIDIA Setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. Setup will now exit."Are you using the CD that came with the card?

What operating system?I have tried the CD that came with it, and the drivers from nvidia's website. I have WINDOWS XP 2002 Media Center Edition. I have ALSO tried Guru Driver Sweeper. does your computer have on board video? Did you have another video card before you put the new one in? Did you uninstall the old video drivers before you tried to install the new one? Quote from: jpsamuel06 on February 16, 2010, 07:44:30 PM

I have tried the CD that came with it, and the drivers from nvidia's website. I have Windows XP 2002 Media Center Edition.

How are you running this CD ? ?

There should be a Win2K FOLDER under vid drivers...open it...

Solve : New Hardware won't install (USB 305)?

Answer»

I keep getting a message for new hardware (USB 305) but I can't figure out which hardware device this is reffering to. How do I tell which device my pc needs the installation CD for? Try each USB device 1 by 1 til you find the one that is not WORKING...
You could also try re-installing your MBoard chipset drivers...Also, open device manager. Any yellow marks? Quote from: patio on February 03, 2010, 07:11:24 AM

Try each USB device 1 by 1 til you find the one that is not working...
Ok, it is the 'ATT Laptop Connect' wireless PC card (USB) that I use on my laptop (in specs), which I'm trying to install the software on my emachines desktop (in specs). But there is an error during the install process. =
When the setup WIZARD gets to the point when it installs the drivers, there is an error message as follows:
Title = microsoft visual C++ debug library
Contents = Debug assertion failed. Program E:\windows\system32\MsiExec.exe
file f:\sp\vctools\vc7libs\ship\atlmfc\src\mfc\filetxt.cpp
line 68
For informationon how your program can cause an assertion failure, see the C++ documentation on asserts.

This dialog box gives the options of abort, retry , ignore. Press retry to debug the application.

If I select retry it shows another dialog box that reads;
MsiExec.exe has encountered a problem and needs to CLOSE.

Quote from: Allan on February 03, 2010, 07:27:11 AM
Also, open device manager. Any yellow marks?

Yes, there were 4 entries under "other devices" NAMED "USB 305" that had yellow marks. I selected "uninstall driver" for all 4 then UNINSTALLED the AT&T software. When trying to reinstall the AT&T software, I got the error message described above.

What next?
Thanks for the help.

Run the Windows Installer Fix...

Re-boot.
Try installing the software 1st...with the card not installed.I tried running the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility  - restarted - then un-installed / re-installed the software with the card inserted in the USB socket. (The software is within the card so I can't install the software without the card plugged in).
I still get the same error message as before. No difference.
At this point I have the 'AT&T InstallSheild Wizard' = "Status: Installing Drivers...Please wait" and also the dialog box for the 'Microsoft Visual C++ Debug library' with options of "Abort, Retry, Ignore"
What next boss?
You may simply have a dead card...did AT&T provide you this card ? ?
If so i'd request a new one.All the software and drivers installed fine on my laptop (in specs) which I'm using to post this.

Solve : USB Devices becoming unrecognized?

Answer»

Hello EVERYONE,

I have been having this problem for quite a while now, and it is starting to become much more frequent. While using my laptop, the only USB device I use regularly is my mouse. If I leave my mouse in the same position for almost any amount of time, (not moving if for about 3 minutes), the cursor disappears from the screen, and my mouse becomes an unrecognized USB device. After this occurs, no other USB device will work. I then have to reboot the laptop and remove the battery for a while in order to use my mouse and other USB devices again.

Is there anything I can do to fix this? Will I have to send my laptop in to get fixed? Hopefully you will be able to help me.

The laptop I'm using is a Dell Inspiron 15, running Windows Vista 32bit Starter Pack 2. It has 2GB of ram, and the processor is an Intel Pentium Dual CPU T3400 2.16GHzCheck the power settings for usb in Control PanelDo you mean the ONE where it says "USB selective suspend setting"? That is disabled for both On Battery and Plugged In.Yes, that was it. You said this started a while ago. Do you recall what changed between the last time you did not have this problem and the first time you did?

Have you tried a clean BOOT to see if the problem is still present with nothing else loading? No, nothing that I can think of. For a clean boot, do you mean safe mode? If so, I'm running safe mode right now, as for some reason my computer has also started to completely freeze. This BEGAN earlier this morning, and I don't know why. I just tried booting it up, and once at the desktop, it froze. My mouse is working just fine in safe mode. I'll have to see if it continues working, or if it is just temporary though.

Solve : Lost my disc to monitor?

Answer»

I have an AOC 22" monitor, and I just MOVED and cannot locate my monitor disc anywhere.  I had it installed on a different computer before I moved and need it on this one and can't find the disc.  I have gone to AOC website but don't find anything there but information about the company nothing about disc and downloads...etc...please helpSee if Google can help. For example: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&rlz=1T4GGLL_enUS304US305&q=download+aoc+monitor+driver&aq=f&aqi=&oq= Why do you need monitor driver?
I never used one.I ALWAYS do. Certainly not critical, but nice to have the VIDEO driver recognize the display. The disc was not needed, I just needed to make a few ADJUSTMENTS which playing around with the system and asking a different question got my monitor up and running.  Thank you all very much for your replies.  Have a great day

Solve : USB Controllers?

Answer»

I have an HP G56 laptop which I bought two weeks ago.
All of a sudden none of my usb ports work.
I checked the device manager and they all show an exclamation mark in a yellow triangle.
I'm not sure how to re-activate them, any ideas.
Thanks
DavidI have read about a system recovery restoring the USB ports to life, but you'd have to back up ANYTHING you want to KEEP, I guess on CDs/DVDs or via a network since the USB ports are not available...

see link below

http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware/USB-ports-not-working-G56-Notebook/m-p/489549

But I wouldn't do any fiddling about inside. If that doesn't work and it is under warranty, don't monkey with it, TAKE it back or contact the vendor.
Is this the COMPUTERhttp://www.walmart.com/ip/HP-XG598UA-ABA/14978549no, it's this one :

There must be a more easier way to get the usb's working again without having to do a system recovery, surely..RIGHT clik all instances of USB roots and hubs and select Remove...
You will get a warning...ignore it.

Solve : Blank DVD-R disk......?

Answer» I just received a DVD-R in the mail and its suppose to have something recorded on the disk. The disk is one from a DVD camcorder and I PUT it in the DVD ROM on the computer and load it and when I TRY to play it, it says that the disk is blank. What do I do? Could it have gotten erased when it CAME through the post office? I have tried everything that I know how to do, can someone please help me out? Thanks....No, the DVD-R can not have been erased.

What is supposed to be on the DVD?The burn process was probably not FINALISED...this will make a DVD R appear blank.
ISOBuster can retrieve and extract those files to your hard drive to be burned again properly.

My f*****g old computer won't read dvr or dvd discs. I have updated the driver, and it reads music CD's. But when I PUT in a dvr or dvd, it does nothing. I go to the disc drive manually and it sais "insert disc". If I re-insert it after that it attempts to read it but locks up and I have to run task manager to close the whole program! Bad drive...one of the lasers has burned out.Has it ever read a DVD ? Is it a DVD drive or a CD drive?cleaning your drive may help you...

I might suggest that ComputerspissmeoffXD download, install, and POST the RESULTS found by, Everest Home FREE.
After the program has scanned your PC, click on 'storage" then "optical drives".

Solve : device manager shows question marks galore. no sound. screenshots.?

Answer»

hi,

i reinstalled xp professional.  my computer is a compaq presario SR1710NX and found i have no sound.  device manager shows a slew of yellow question marks (exclamation points) that indicate the problem.  there is a screenshot that illustrates this.
i have installed everest (i hope i have the right version) and i have a screenshot of the output of the motherboard chipset.  is this what was needed?
i know i need to learn more about drivers and the proper installation of them, and i am working on this (i've been on google).  in the meantime, i just want to be sure that i get the proper drivers installed and get this computer working right.
the LAST time i came here asking for help a fine gentleman provided me with a link, and all i had to do was click on the link.  everything ELSE was done inside the computer.  i couldn't believe there was no setup, installation, file extensions, nothing!  incredibly easy.
i know there is a procedure that takes place between the question marks in device manager, the running of everest, and the link that gets clicked on, any advice, tutorials, links, etc, that could be shared with me would be most appreciated.
thanks.

[Saving space, attachment deleted by admin]Have you installed the chipset driver? If not, download and install it. Then install your other drivers.Allan,

i just visited the hp SITE and was pleasantly surprised that they had so much for this computer.  i'll see if i can't install the chipset drivers as you advise.
my experiences with hp in the past have left alot to be desired.  maybe this will be pleasant.
i've bought several new computers from them.

thanks for the quick reply.  i'll be right back. You're welcome - and take you're time. There's almost always someone here to help.i screwed up.  i went and installed the realtek audio driver.  though it worked (i have sound), i think it messed up the pending installation of the chipset drivers.  here is a screenshot that shows this.
i am going to wait for your reply (or someone else with expertise, i clearly don't ).  if i need to uninstall the audio driver, i can do that.  sorry.
thanks for the help.

[Saving space, attachment deleted by admin]You don't need to uninstall anything. Just install the chipset driver.that's the point.  i tried to install it and it wouldn't install.  the screenshot was taken because of this.
i negotiated to c>softpaq>sp26608 and tried to run the exe and received the same error message.  i don't know what to do in device manager.  i don't see chipset for motherboard listed there.  i'll go back and look again.
even though this isn't working.  i still find it quite fascinating.
what do i do?
thanks.  i won't mess anything else up.What service pack is your XP version?
And you tried to run WHICH .exe (the name of the file)? Did you try the install.exe in the folder that is created (\softpaq\sp26608 )Go to c>softpaq>sp26608 then to the chipset_ATI_SMBus folder. Right-click on SMBUSati.inf and select "install". If that doesn't work we'll point device manager to that driver. It's also possible that the driver you are trying to install from softpaq may be corrupted...
DLoad and install a fresh one for your machine from the site...
Save it to the Desktop and run the install. No, I just downloaded the driver and got the same message. There are a couple of .exe files there though and I want to know what he's trying.OK gotcha...so the DLoad is corrupt ?I don't think so. It may want to install via the .inf file. But there is an install.exe in the parent folder and I'd like to know if the OP tried that Is it possible the .inf needs to be migrated to the REGISTRY 1st and then run the .exe ? ?it's servicepack 3.
sp26608.

i gave this a shot:

Go to c>softpaq>sp26608 then to the chipset_ATI_SMBus folder. Right-click on SMBUSati.inf and select "install".
it didn't work.  i put up TASK manager and said it was running.  but after a few minutes, nothing happened.

i can try to get you a screenshot of this, but i am not quick enough.  i'll wait and see what you say next.

thanks to both of you.

Solve : driver for printer HP 7350?

Answer» TRYING unsuccessfully to download the driver for printer HP 7350.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.  thanx!trying unsuccessfully to understand your post. What EXACTLY is the problem you are having?I followed the directions but nothing happened.  it would not download.I have no idea what you are talking about. Start at the beginning and explain what you are doing and what is happening. If you don't provide detailed information we cannot provide intelligent help.It asked me lots of questions about my computer, but the model # for our computer was not in the drop down list.    You keep talking in riddles. If you are not prepared to provide a DETAILED description of your problem I, for one, cannot help.I am not trying to be evasive or talk in riddles.  I do not know how to describe the problem more articulately.

When I started to try to download the driver, there were several questions about what kind of a computer we have.  One of the questions was what is the model number with a drop down menu to choose from.  But the answer to the model number was not listed in the choices provided.  So I was stuck and could not proceed.

Does this MAKE more sense?  THANK you.  YES - if we'd started with that we could have been done by now

Did you go here: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DriverDownload.jsp?prodNameId=72887&lang=en&cc=us&taskId=135&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=72885 Thank you, so far so good at going to that address you sent.
Now we're stuck again.

where do you plug in the USB cable on a lenovo computer?  where is the outlet located?  our computer does not look like the one pictured in the directions we are following.  I can't see your computer from here. EITHER it is equipped with usb ports or it isn't.How would we find the usb ports and if we do how would we know which one is for the printer?  are they marked or color coded in any way?Alleluia!!!  We got it!  and the printer is actually working.  Thank you so much for your help,  Allan.  We couldn't have done it without you --- obviously!

Solve : Problem locating drivers?

Answer»

Hi. Anyway, here's the issue. I had a bad virus that blue-screened my computer  whenever I tried to boot my computer up. I reinstalled windows XP, but now none of my devices are working. It's not showing my sound card or graphics card, and I can't INSTALL them because it apparently can't find them (I think).

I don't know what the cards are, so I can't tell what I'm looking for, though I'm pretty sure graphics card is nVidia. I've never had this PROBLEM after re-installing XP before, help?Who is the manufacturer of the computer? Model NUMBER? manufacturer driver is always the best but if you cannot find it windows default driver will also do.
for any requirement you may check google or check here xpdrivers.com/index.php my PERSONAL choice Download Everest from here:
http://majorgeeks.com/download4181.html

Open it, click Computer, then Summary.
In upper menu, go to Report>Quick Report-Summary.
Save it in a text file, and paste it in your next post.
Don't include anything under the line Debug - PCI

Also, let us know which devices have errors in device manager. Click start, then Run, and TYPE in devmgmt.msc and press enter.
