A conducting square loop of side 'L' and resistance 'R' moves in its plane with the uniform velocity 'v' perpendicular to one of its sides. A magnetic induction 'B' constant in time and space pointing perpendicular and into the plane of the loop exists everywhere as shown in the figure. The current induced in the loop is(i) BLv/R Clockwise (ii) BLv/R Anticlockwise (iii) 2BLv/R Anticlockwise (iv) Zero

Answer»

Answer is (iv) Zero

Current induced is I = \(\frac{lel}{R}\)

Now lel = \(\frac{d\phi}{dt}\)

But there is no change of flux with time, as \(\bar{B},\) \(\bar{A}\) & θ all remain constant with time.

∴ No current is induced

Answer» Correct Answer - D
A ploar molecule is a molecule containing polar bonds , where the sum of all the bonds dipole moment is not zero.
In case of `H_(2)O`, the bonds are inclined at an angle so the net dipole moment in non- zero . Hence `H_(2)O` is a polar molecule while in all other cases the dipole moment are balanced , so that the net moment is zero.

“Learning: The Treasure Within” submitted to the UNESCO by Jacques Delors, is a report on:1. Education2. Economics3. Foreign Affairs4. Racial Matters

Answer» Correct Answer - Option 1 : Education

"Learning: the treasure within"
Report to UNESCO of the International Commission on Education for the Twenty-first Century.

In November 1991, the General Conference invited the Director-General "to convene an international commission to reflect on education and learning for the 21st century." Federico Mayor requested Jacques Delors to chair the Commission, with a group of 14 other eminent figures from all over the world and from a variety of cultural and professional backgrounds. Learning: The Treasure Within, commonly referred to as the "Delors Report," proposes a holistic and integrated vision of education based on the paradigms of lifelong learning and the four pillars of learning to be, to know, to do, and to live together.

Duration of short term Memory is:1. 2 seconds2. 20 seconds3. 1/2 second4. 30 seconds

Answer» Correct Answer - Option 4 : 30 seconds

The mental process you used to answer all of these questions is known as memory. It refers to the ability to retain information and reproducing it over a period of time when required to perform a cognitive task.

Memory is a process comprised of three stages.  All information received by our senses goes through these stages:-

  1. Encoding: It is the process of converting sensory information into a form that can be processed further by the memory systems.
  2. Storage: In this second stage, received information from memory systems is stored so that it can be used at a later time also.
  3. Retrieval: It refers to locating and bringing the stored material information to one’s awareness when required to complete a task.

American psychologists Richard Atkinson and Richard Shiffrin (1968) proposed the Atkinson-Shiffrin Model of memory which is very similar to the way computer handles the input and storage of data. This model involves various steps to store information.

The sensory register or memory:
  • This receives information from the various sensory receptors from the environment.
  • Here, the information is held for a very brief period of time, perhaps a few seconds.
  • The information passes from the sensory register to the short-term memory, only if attention is paid to it.
Short-term store or memory:
  • This is also known as working memory or primary memory.
  • Here, the information is kept up to 30 seconds.
  • It has a very limited capacity to store information.
  • Several pieces of information can be combined into chunks and stored in a short-term store and later retrieved.
  • It stores the sound of the speech, visual images, words, meaningful sentences. Since the storage is very small, most of the new incoming information displaces the previously stored information.
  • Information that is rehearsed well then moves to the long-term memory and the information that is not rehearsed is lost.
Long-term store or memory:
  • The information is organized in different ways in long-term store for days, months, years, and maybe forever.
  • Long-term memory has unlimited capacity to store information.
  • Information is generally not forgotten from the long-term stores, and if any forgetting occurs, it is because the information has not been retrieved or organized properly.
  • The information that is stored in the long-term store consists of meaningful words, sentences, ideas, and various experiences of our life.

Hence, the duration of short-term memory is 30 seconds.

The best indicator for the detection of end point in titration of a weak acid and a strong base is

Answer»

Selection of suitable indicator or choice of indicator: In order to choose a suitable indicator, it is necessary to understand the pH changes in the titrations. The change in pH in the vicinity of the equivalence point is most important for this purpose. The curve obtained by plotting pH as ordinate against the volume of alkali added as abscissa is known as neutralisation or titration curve. The suitable indicators for the following titrations are,

(i) Strong acid Vs strong base: Phenolphthalein (pH range 8.3 to 10.5), methyl red (pH range 4.4 – 6.5) and methyl orange (pH range 3.2 to 4.5).

(ii) Weak acid Vs strong base: Phenolphthalein.

(iii) Strong acid Vs weak base: Methyl red and methyl orange.

(iv) Weak acid Vs weak base: No suitable indicator can be used for such a titration.

A spring is stretched by applying a load to its free end. The strain produced in the spring is(a) volumetric(b) shear(c) longitudinal and shear(d) longitudinal

Answer»

(c) According to the diagram where a spring is suspended with a fixed rigid support. Now a load is attached with the lower end of that spring. So, it is stretched by applying a load to its free end. Clearly the length and shape of the spring changes and the weight of the load behaves as a deforming force.
The change in length corresponds to longitudinal strain and change in shape corresponds to shearing strain.
