Well today it hit me how real viruses on phones are, my mate got one and it does something so it DOESNT boot up the phone, it corrupts a file so the phone keeps trying to boot up but fails, it does it over and over. I was wondering has anyone got a FREE antivirus program for their phones? Any recmndations would be grately apprciated.

F-Secure, Symantec, McAfee and others were showing a very keen interest in the summer of 2005 whilst Kaspersky Labs were ACTIVELY beta testing a solution with a full PRODUCT release thought to be iminent.

Cabir and Redbook bring the number of malicious cellphone PROGRAMS released in the last year or two to around 150. Sophistication seems to be increasing exponentially and the target area has suddenly vastly increased with the discovery of what could well be a serious threat to java based phones.

Currently, Symantec have released [highlight]Symantec Mobile Security[/highlight], F-Secure have a detailed deal with Nokia to protect it's phones and have an evaluation version of the [highlight]F-Secure Mobile Anti-Virus[/highlight] offering available.
Kaspersky Labs, who are well ahead of the pack and at the very leading edge of this technology, has absolutely nothing to offer within it's product range or within it's public testing catalogue.

If you Google for "cell phone virus protection", I would imagine there are at least a few other solutions available.Yea thanks for replies guys. Can anyone help me? Yesterday, when I started my computer it hung up. Ctr/Alt/Del showed a FILE called vacation.exe was trying to launch, something I've never seen before. Without thinking, I went out and deleted vacation.exe.

Now, when I boot up (Windows ME) I receive an error message saying "windows cannot find 'vacation.exe". You may have typed the name incorrectly...." etc. If I click OK I can go on to RUN all my normal programs.

Can anyone tell me
a) how can I determine which application is having the error
b) how I can either restore the vacation file or delete the need for it?

I have tried to restore to a prior date, but had to undo that because it caused much bigger problems. Thinking the file was from Outlook EXPRESS I updated my Microsoft Explorer, hoping the update would bring the file with it. No luck.

Any suggestions from the experts out there? Thanks SO much!

It's probably trying to start from a registry entry.
Just download & run ccleaner, that should fix it.
If not, you can run Hijackthis but I don't think you will need to.I sincerely hope I am wrong here and I may well be but if you use virtually any P2P application without maximum protection and you have no idea what vacation.exe is or where it came from, it's probably the Win32.P2P-Worm.Alcan.x aka W32.Alcan.x aka W32.Alkra.x and it's pretty nasty!
It's a trojan dropper that drops various SPYWARE and adware applications, back doors, other trojans and RATs. The last infection by Alcan that I saw dropped in excess of 60 malware related files itself!

Carry out the procedures LISTED [highlight]in this post[/highlight]. Note down any and all infections discovered by the various recommended scans etc Keep a log of what they were and where they were and post a Hijackthis logfile here when done.

Sad to say I have a cheating spouse. I know for a fact that she has installed Imsecure on our home pc. Problem is I can't find it on my hard drive. Any suggestions? FlameI have software installed that tracks all internet activity including keystrokes and IM's. The problem is when the the "sender" sends messages via IM, the messages are encrypted so I cannot fully see what they are typing. I do know that the "sender" is an IT junky and he had my spouse install IMsecure on my computer. I am trying to find out where the IMsecure is installed on my hard drive so I can uninstall it. IMsecure and it will by default be installed on your hard drive on C:\programs\IMsecure ......It should also show up in the control panel \add or remove programs.
Are you the administrator for the pc that IMsecure is installed on ?
I just D/L and installed IMsecure to see where it defaulted to ....... and it installed on C: drive in the programs folder ....... I was able to rename the file folder to a differant name .....so you have to CAREFULLY inspect any file folder in the program folder you aren't sure of........ Use GOOGLE ....it's your friend.

Once you find the program , if you can use your spouses username , you MAY be able to turn off the encryption feature and POSSIBLY read the previous message or at the very least read any that come in from now on un encrypted.

Hi. I am having problems with links on web pages. For instance on Comcast.net I can click on my Mail icon but it will not take me to the log in page. The other icons WORK fine. The link that was sent for activation on this account would not work either. I had to copy and paste the link. It does not do it on CERTAIN buttons, links and icons. This problem started yesterday. I can't FIGURE out why this is happening, hope someone can HELP. I guessing maybe it has to do with Javascript, but not for sure. Any help would be appreciated.

Using Firefox may be desirable but it doesn't solve the problem.
You will find that the mail is in your outbox folder. Open Outlook or Outlook Express, navigate to your outbox and simply delete the offending message.

I'm USING MICROSOFT Outlook (2002) and it was working fine until this morning.
I keep important emails, even if I have replied to them, or FORWARDED them, in my inbox, to CHECK later on them. This morning all the replied and forwarded arrows were gone. After having replied to an email, I don't see the replied sign, but when CHECKING the deleted items after deleted the replied messge, it is under deleted items, with the replied arrow.

When I play music on my computer, the right HEADPHONE speaker buzzes REALLY loud. I think the problem is with the computer itself because the same thing happens with two different pairs of headphones. My computer is a Samsung with Windows XP - in Korean, so I'm lost when looking through the menus. Any help or guidance would be appreciated!

First step would be checking if the headphone socket is clean, blow out any dust.
Also you could try USING the headphone socket around the BACK of your computer.

one of the options of the card is that it has the ability to record

I found this forum while searing via google for a computer help forum and everywhere I went, it SEEMED to link to this one! I suppose this is as wonderful a place as any & the people seem very nice!

Onto the problem, hehe...

First off - System Specs:
Windows XP, eMachines AMD 3100+; 1.80ghz processor, 1.00 GB of Ram, 80 GB Hard Drive. Video Card: ati Radeon 9250, 256 MB. Network Adapter: Linksys Wireless-G PCI adapter w/ Speedbooster. (802.11g) Wireless Modem/Router: SBG900 Wireless by Motorola

My problem is, since I switched to wireless. (was previously on dial-up, horrible story), whenever I visited myspace, after logging in, it seemed to bring me to a "server not found" error before it would even take the time to load the page. It never takes the time to try to load the page before continuing on. Now, I can handle an error and all that, no big deal. HOWEVER -- this shuts down my entire internet service! I can't surf to ANY other website, my downloads stop, and even the computer not on wireless stops working! I have no idea how myspace.com could cause this, but it never happened when I was on Ethernet. Only after switching to wireless does myspace.com shut it down. Now, I'm sure some would sya "just put the computer back up to the ethernet cable" -- well, it's not a laptop, so I can't just reattach it. It's on the other side of the house!

I'm guessing maybe I have a setting out of place, because surely if all of my neighbors who visit myspace with almost a exact same setup can browse with no problems, I should be able to also, right? I even had the cable man come and rewire all the wires from the pole to the house -- all to no avail.

I was thinking maybe a bandwith issue? Well, even when I'm the only one on the computer, it does this. I could not have any other website up and it doesn't let me login! I'm PRETTY sure the 5000 kbps down / 500 kbps up would let me at least go to Myspace. don't you think?

Well, I'm not sure what else to say... I would be willing to share any settings you may inquire to see. Just say what you need. Also if anyone is more experienced with this and wishes to speak with me directly, I do have yahoo messenger that I would be glad to reinstall to get some help. I'd do just about anything at this point!

why is my mic jack detecting sound that is not there?

FlameThere is ALWAYS "sound" PRESENT in any electrical circuitry. It's produced by electrical "noise" emanating energy within the frequencies of the audio range. It's the bane of the audio electronic designers life.

You need to check the gain for your MIC input and perhaps disable any other inputs.To hear that electricity, you must have your speakers turned up high though...

FlameNot necessarily Flame. It's easy to form an audio frequency loop where there's a noisy input and "cheap" amplifier concerned.
The analogue CD ROM cables may be worth looking at too. Either re-route them or better still, remove them altogether.could it be that there is something stucik in my mic jack?

FlameWith XP SP2, the WinPopUp or Messenger service is disabled by default because it's such a high security risk.Winpopup a security risk? I hadn't heard that. Utterly useless, yes...The only purpose I've seen for Net Send is to ANNOY people on the same network. I mean, once I was in CAD, and the ex-Marine TEACHER (who you DON'T tick off) was showing me how to work in the program, and I got flooded with about 9-10 popups that said NOTHING useful. Annoyed, I responded with a popup that read, "Click OK or shut down if you're gay". The popups stopped.

A bit more on-topic, if you have XP Pro you can set up Net Send, but I actually tried to set up a network with a couple of XP Home PCs and I couldn't do it. I Googled and got few answers. Windows 2K I know works; my CAD computers use that OS. I don't recall if it works in 9x or not, but I doubt it. I won't bother checking on ME.XPs Messenger (WinPopUp) service has been exploited almost since XP hit the shelves.Hang on - winpopup (messages over NETBIOS) isn't the same as the messenger service? Is it? :-?If you want to turn on messenger and recieve Net Sends (not advisable) you have to go into Computer Management (Right click My Computer and go to Manage) and then into Services and locate Messenger from the list and enable it. To make a data CD:

Drag the files you want burned in the writer's DRIVE folder (if your writer is D:, put them in D). Then, in the drive window, you should ssee grayed-out versions of the videos. Click "write these files to cd" and follow the WIZARD's instructions.

Oh make sure a blank cd is in there that can be written.

i DOWNLOADED two MOVIES on limewire and need to know if i can compact a BIT smaller to fit on a 700mb cd?

How does WinZip do with them? I think the 704 MB one will fit if WinZipped and I'm not sure about the bigger one.Not saying it's desirable, and not saying it's something that will WORK necessarily... But... Decrease the video QUALITY. That might make it smaller... For example, maybe High-Quality (NTSC) is too big, and you need to downgrade...

About 6 months ago I moved from home for some college classes elsewhere, back then I was using a Microsoft 510 Wireless B USB adaptor. I had roughly a 100 or less ping, and a 120 KBS download rate for most websites.

I am now moved back home using the same network, the same wireless B usb, and i am now getting a ping of 200-300 on average.

I have tried moving up to a Wireless G usb adaptor, same ping, and a Linksys PCI-G card, and the same thing still.

I have checked the microsoft base station, and everything is properly SET for a G system (YES, the base is G).

I cannot think of anything that would keep me from achieving a rate that i had LAST time.

We do have a Cable modem and the same one as last time.

Literally everything is the same. But The rate achieved is much much worse.

Any Ideas on how to fix this?There's nothing a USER can do about ping performance. It's just that the network (Outside of your control) has deteriorated or become over subscribed since you last used it.

Try a few traceroutes etc at different times of the day to see if a pattern emerges. Perhaps your ISP is unaware of a dodgy router somewhere. [highlight]PingPlotter[/highlight] is a useful tool and it provides pretty graphs.

my GREAT moron buddy dan decided to install limewire to his flash drive with the idea that he could run the program from it. i dont think it worked because he then UNINSTALLED limewire wich was sucsessful. but there were still files that were left over that said were write protected when he tried to delete them. i loked at it and couldn't figure it out. Hi, Guys.

Does anyone know where I can find out what an ERROR code(s) actually mean? I am trying to programme a Sat. CAM USING a programmer and continually get the following message(s) they vary slightly but ALWAYS start ...."USB READ communication error" then go on to give the code which starts with C0000 etc. etc.

I have asked on the Sat. websites but no one seems to have a clue and the manufacturer of the programmer wasn't interested after he had got my MONEY. The programmer has now been changed by the retailer but the problem remains!!

Anybody any ideas please? Is there a website or list of error codes of this type anywhere does any one know?

Hello, first time post here.
I'm on Windows ME and have a CD Rom Drive and a CD BURNER.

The CD Rom Drive started palying up by not reading a disk when it was placed in it and then it has progressed to the stage that when you open the CD drawer it will open and then close immediately. If your quick and get a disk in the drive then it will start up and make NOISES that it is being read but this just goes on and on.

Clearly the drive is GETTING power but thats about it.

BruceMTry cleaning the drive with a suitable CD drive cleaner. This does sound LIKE mechanical failure unfortunately.

The good news is that replacement CD (or DVD) drives are now pretty cheap.

I'm GLAD that you're sorted. If I were you, I would STILL follow the instructions in the post that I pointed to earlier. Pay particular attention to the latter part of the post with regards to prevention.
WinSock damage isn't CAUSED by viral activity but by erroneous removal of what's commonly (And wrongly in most cases) known as spyware.
What you found were more than likely TROJAN downloaders and you're very likely to have some remaining collateral damage.

• A start menu that runs away from you
• A fake shut-down
• A SERIOUS monitor error (fake)
• Pretending to delete C:\WINDOWS

When i am typing sometimes the spacebar wont work. As well as this problem sometimes the flashing line where it shows where your typing will move back as if i hit the LEFT arrow key. This happens frequently and is very annoying when typing.When you SAY the spacebar doesn't work, do you mean it does nothing? Or does it overwrite the text you have? If it's the latter, hit Insert and try again. Also, what do you do right before the cursor goes back? Is the Home key near the letter keys?I mean the space bar does nothing. Im also on a laptop so i dont know if that affects anything. When the flashing cursor goes back i am just typing regularly. Ive tested this out by typing really slow to make sure im not accidently clicking anything. This problem is very odd though because some programs won't be affected. Such as these forums or msn. My home button is almost directly beside the backspace button.OK, two questions:

1. Has this always happened?
2. If not, have you made any CHANGES recently to your computer's configuration? (I have no idea what setting would cause this, but it's worth looking into.
3. Have you spilled any liquids on your keyboard? (Gotta clear the obvious first)

Hi guys, I searched ours, and ours for a vista wallpaper that I wanted. What is the best way to go about scanning my photos. I have many photos, I need to scan and have no idea how to go about it. For example, my mom has PASSED away, and I need to scan photographs of all her art and furniture. So I don't know what is the best program and so on. Most scanners have SOFTWARE bundled with them. What scanner are you using?Dran..... I would SUGGEST reading the scanner manual and it should walk you through the procedure. If you dont have the manual , try the manufacturers site , you should find one there ..... Do you have a digital camera .... as that might be of assistance with the furniture .

Hey...I went to www.ccleaner.com and downloaded the PROGRAM and ran a CLEANER, just to clean things up here. I thought it was great. The only problem is that it said I had to install a Yahoo TOOL bar, so I did, and then went and uninstalled the toolbar because I hear toolbars can cause problems. So I did that. The problem is that my MSN screen change is different now. It's one I don't like. I can only tell you that it SAYS beta-msn.com I don't know what is going on. I wish I knew more about what I was doing.
You did not have to install Yahoo toolbar. You may elect not to install it soon after STARTING the installation of CCleaner. Also, unknown to many users, you can download the Basic version from http://www.ccleaner.com/downloadbuilds.asp; it's the same as the Standard Build except for the Yahoo toolbar.

CCleaner has a forum on their site for CCleaner users. I suggest you visit their forum and post your question; see http://forum.ccleaner.com/Just uninstall. If you need to uninstall ccleaner do that too and just be careful when reinstalling to uncheck one of the boxes.

I've found that whenever there is a thread where the last poster is an EX-Member with a presumably removed account or such, the thread's last post column reads - Ex-Member. When I try to open the thread, I get an error.

Anyhoo, I was trying to look up what post = what rank, because I was curious. But it's interesting to note that the Admin wouldn't have deleted his first post, and PEOPLE delete posts all the time. So what probably happened is that an Ex Member got a post removed and CH glitched the thread on the mod/admin. Just a thought.That's the only issue with this new YaBB! Software. It's buggy. I liked the old version more as far as stability. For features and looks however, this new version is best. Every once in a while a bug will show itself. It shouldn't be too hard to fix. I bet the permissions are just messed-up with the whole Ex-Member thing. This is the first time we've ever had Ex-Members by the WAY. Back on the old forum, if you didn't want to be a part of CH, you just let your account sit there. Becuase this is the first time we have Ex-Members, it's almost plain to see that we will have one or two bugs here and there. Can't be hard to fix though.

What does it mean by 'BREAKING of frames'?

Does 'Frame' only means diving the webpage into two parts , or, it has any other meanings? If your SITE "breaks frames", it dissolves any frames on the page and leaves only your page.

Google "web frames" or something similar for a definition of frames. The term is usually encountered in connection with this: certain web sites (e.g. About.com) refer PEOPLE to other web sites. They will enclose the other website in a frame, LEAVING their own logo ETC. at the top of the page. "Breaking frames" usualy means getting rid of the About.com bit and leaving the other website in the browser on its own.

I have the strangest issue that I have ever seen.

Once, while visiting a web page, it was discussing the bgsound attribute for HTML. So, when I heard the sound of a match being struck, I thought it was funny. Then I went to another site, and it did it again. Thing is, I'm not sure where the sound is even coming from!

See, each time this happens my speakers are on. However, I couldn't tell WHETHER it was coming from my speakers or my monitor.

If it is my monitor, my first thought is that I'm ****ed. However, I am completely unable to predict the pattern. It happens randomly. It happened here yesterday.

There are some patterns to it; it may be what we need. First of all, I never get this sound when not in a browser. At least not so far. It sounds exactly the same, and it always happens twice. The intervals are always the same: about .75 seconds to a second between "matchstrikes". The first time it happened I had the monitor facing my bed (two feet away) and was using my wireless mouse and my long-cabled keyboard, since I wasn't FEELING well. I am fairly certain that it has happened with the monitor in normal position, but I'm not 100% on that. If it is my monitor, I have no idea what it could be.

If it's my speakers (noooo!) then I'm not sure what regulates it so well.

A ton of things are not regular about it as well. It includes the fact that it sometimes happens on a page and sometimes doesn't, the fact that it happens at all TIMES of day, and the fact that there seems to be no trigger to it.It is hidden code on the page. Are you using Firestarter?Not sure what that is, so I'll say no. You have a poltergeist. Contact your priest.

i have just up graded my computer and now when i turn it on nothing happens on the screen but it issues one long beep then 2 short beeps and will not stop ive trieed takin my com aprt puttin it back together to reveal the same thing. im startin to freak out cus no one seems to know what to do only conclusion i can come up with is a dead video card

I would like to host my own web site, what would I NEED to do? I bought a domain name and my ISP will only allow domain names for Business customers not residential.

I am running Xp home from a pc that is alwasy on-line.If you have a static IP address (you'll only have this if you've paid for it with your ISP) then get the domain you've bought pointing at that IP address (for www).

If you don't have a static IP address, sort out an account with DynDNS for free. You may be able to transfer the domain to them for a fee; otherwise set up a domain with DynDNS and get your ISP to point your domain with them at the domain with DynDNS. That will in turn point to your (dynamic) IP address. You'll need one of the windows clients to keep the IP address updated at DynDNS.

Finally you need a webserver running on your PC. This is the hard bit! My recommendation is Apache, because it's free and also industry-standard, i.e. virtually bullet-proof. It is not easy to configure, but then no decent web server is easy to configure.Just a quick note: If yo're running *unix (UNIX or Linux or something along those lines) you can get any version you want; however, Windows users are presently limited to 2.0.55 at the latest. Just a reminder as I spent 10 minutes figuring this out.

The Print Screen key====I can't seem to get this key to WORK on the keyboard. I don't know how to program it to work wither. If I want to CAPTURE what is on the screen, I can't. Has anyone had problems printing business cards on this printer? I can not get the card stock to go through. If I give it a bit of a push, it end up on the perforation line or above it so the card is of no use to me. Can any one SHED some light on this? Does this printer not accept business card pages? any help would be appreciated.I think that is a pretty old and basic printer. It may not be up to the task.I have a BJC-3000. I've PRINTED business cards with it in the past, but haven't printed any for a long time now. It should print them.

I had a similar frustration with ENVELOPES. I could not get envelopes to feed through it properly. Since I had an older BJC-2000, I connected it to my parallel port and have the BJC-3000 on a USB cable. I use the BJC-2000 for envelopes.

Have you tried changing the lever on the printer that adjusts for paper thickness, the lever that's simply has two positions, one for paper and one for envelopes. I guess you could try changing that to the envelope setting for business cards and see whether it works.

By the way, if you want a manual for that printer, you can download the BJC-3000 Manual. You can also download a driver for it; I don't KNOW whether that would help.

Are you getting a lot of these? Do you or have you ever sent e-mail to this recipient? What kind of malware protection are you using on a regular basis? Are you on a broadband connection?

This could be just bounced e-mail from a bad address or something much worse.

I have a server configured to act as a mail server. Is it possible to USE a Dynamic DNS service (such as DynDNS) and use, for example: [emailprotected] as an email address if EVERYTHING after the @ is registered with the DNS service?It is possible but inadvisable. You can set up an MX record pointing to your mail server, but you really need to ensure that mailserver is permanently available - i.e. not a good plan if you're on broadband, since broadband is not a GUARANTEED service. Configuring a secure mailserver that is spam-proof is by no means easy and there are LOTS of ptifalls. I consider myself reasonably experienced in this area and would not personally attempt what you are SUGGESTING. You need a top quality firewall, preferably at least 2 load-balancing mail servers and at least one backup mailserver.

Once the internet at large detects a mail server on your broadband connection, it will be hammered away at day and night. Think twice!

I just got Verizon DSL and SunRocket VoIP service. I use a linksys 4 port DSL/ Cable router to connect multiple computers as well as the VoIP box to the DSL modem, but I get no connection. I can get into the router config GUI, and I've TRIED different configs, but I still get no connection to the coputers or the VoIP box. I do when I connect directly to the odem, or from the modem to the VoIP box and then to one computer.

ALSO, the IP address I'm getting from Verizon is a 192.168.1.x address..... I didn't think 192.168.x.x was used with ISPs because it's a private class C. I called tech support for both Verizon and Linksys, but neither were any help so I'm hoping that someone here can be. Linksys router model: BEFSR41 v.3. OS: Win XP Pro.I believe you NEED to change a setting in your modem to "bridge" the router. At least, that's what I vaguely recall from changing from modem-to-computer to modem-to-router-to-computer with my Sprint DSL service. Sprint tech support guided me through that.

Since you can't get good tech support from Verizon, I suggest you visit http://www.dslreports.com/forum/ilec,vz, a forum focuses on Verizon DSL. The site also has a forum just for Linksys hardware.

I have a web site, I made some changes to it and was able to see the changes while in the editor. However when I go to IE and type in the web sites address I get the old pages which by the way were DELETED yesterday from the server. I had my husband try we are connected to the INTERNET via a router and he get the same old deleted pages like me. I call all my friends and had them check they are all getting the new pages.

I called my web site server people and comcast both had me to the following which none of it worked.

We both my husbnad and I

Cleaned All Cookies and Offline Files
Cleared History
Reset the MODEM and router
Bypassed the rounter
Reset every BACK to the default settings in IE

My husband even tried all this on Firefox and still same old pages

I'm at a loss neither compnay Homestead nor Comcast has a clue and I sure don't.

They are now saying it must be our computers... LOL Funny how both our computers messed up at the very same moment.

If anyone know of anything that we can try it would greatly appreciated.
