I once read Jerry Pournelle's column in _Byte_ magazine, in which he mentioned being offline because a 'DRUNK had rammed a power pole'. This was around 1990. He sounded like the death penalty would be too good for the drunk guy. I never liked Pournelle. Mustn't get into politics, but I have to say you Americans are so lucky you have people like AOC.

Solve : WANTED: GPU bagged from mining?

Answer»

I want to test a few things on a card that is bagged from mining, hopefully as BAD as it can be and still put up a picture on a monitor.

I'm not going to pay for the card, I will gladly pay shipping though. I'm hoping that someone has ONE that they haven't gotten around to recycling YET or tossing in the trash. And I'll be HAPPY to share the results of my testing with you. Oh, and I'm not looking for any specific architecture either - so literally anything will be fine Is anybody really mining in 2020? I dont THINK you should be spending a fortune on GPU...for mining purposes.

My recombination. Never, ever buy a 'Fire' device from Amazon. The insult your intelligence by selling PRODUCTS that you can not control.

The best device I have is an old Apple iPad. It just WORKS good and does not push junk onto my screen. She has the Fire,I have the iPad.

My wife and I use our devices mostly for personal education and not for playing games. No, we are not anti-games. But we prefer to make oue own choices.

Solve : Does anyone know the name of this taskbar icon??

Answer»

Hello everyone,,
I was just wondering if anyone knows the NAME or anything about this taskbar ICON? It's related to WIFi-LAN connections, and it may have to do with the Qualcomm Atheros 5007EG network adapter(MAY). I'm SORRY if this is in the wrong section/topic; I'm new here. Thank you so MUCH in advance!

So, what icon is that, Gujarish?
On my desktop I can just move the mouse punter over the item and it will show a title of the item. For example, I move the mouse over the little box that looks like a PC with a wireless thing in UPPER left corner and it shows the name of the network I am on, And the words 'Internet Access' show. So I know it is related to my network stuff. If I click on it, then I seek a link to the network settings.

As you know, last year two Boeing 737 max aircraft ceased and killed all aboard. The company claimed it was a software problem and would be FIXED soon.

Now some internal INFORMATION has been made PUBLIC. It becomes clear the real problem was not software at all, nor could software ever cover up the flaws.

Solve : Will Microsoft Open-Source Windows 7??

Answer»

At first I thought it was a joke.
Here is the link:
https://fossbytes.com/open-source-group-windows-7-source-code-blank-hard-drive/
The Free Software Foundation was aiming for at least 7,777 signatures in their petition to open-source Windows 7. However, they RECEIVED overwhelming support from people with more than 13,000 signatures.

I want to roll my eyes. Well there goes my theory that no longer having a deranged socially backward pedophile defender in charge would make them less insane.

Though I suppose the people left are people who used to follow a deranged, socially backward pedophile defender, so I'm not sure what I expected.

To early for April first. Really so the Free Software Foundation wants a copy of the source code which is millions of hours of intellectual property. Even with a billion signatures it isn't going to happen. Perhaps Coke should be NEXT to give the world the recipe for coca cola.

BC_Programmer,
I had no idea of who he is.
I'm talking about Richard Stallman, the former "leader" (president?) of the FSF.

1. When Ulrich Drepper, maintainer of glibc, wanted to port it to Linux back when Linux was new, Richard Stallman was against it. To the point where he spread lies and rumours to other maintainers in a failed attempt to takeover the project and REPLACE Ulrich with somebody who would do his bidding, and not port the project to Linux. Obviously that didn't happen, but to me that story just SHOWS that he had the same ambition of control as any corporation would.

2. At one point, a maintainer wasn't able to make a change he wanted to be made, as they were busy since their wife had recently had a kid. After a number of other maintainers congratulated him, Stallman felt it was prudent to rant about how the single greatest thing anybody can do is contribute to free software (eg. Work for him) and then blabbered about overpopulation.

3. in 2013, Stallman said: "There is little evidence to justify the widespread assumption that willing participation in pedophilia hurts children.". Which echoed a similar viewpoint he expressed in 2006 when commenting on a news item regarding a new pro-pedophilia political party being formed in Sweden. And more recently he defended one of the people accused of participating in *censored* assault of minors on Epstein's private Island. Rather poorly- " the most plausible scenario is that she presented herself to him as entirely willing.".

He also decided to "change his mind" on the matter, one that he staunchly defended for decades. It seems less likely to be due to "self-reflection" on the matter and more a case of him being concerned that his free couch at MIT wouldn't be available since he had attracted so much negative attention towards MIT for his wildly inappropriate comments.

Solve : oscilloscope?

Answer»

I have a 1476 oscilloscope 10 mhz.
It's set on ms 2 and I have 7 L's UPSIDE down on display.
I need to know what frequency that is.
I got the probes across the speaker leads.
I don't hear some frequencies and trying to find the ones
I don't hear well. Any tips on this would be appreciated

So the speaker isn't making a tone sound with this waveform?

Is this PC Speaker off the motherboard header connection or a speaker connected to a sound system that is plugged into computers audio jack?

Most problems are fixed by REPLACING the Speaker Setup and you can get low cost ones for less than $20. If its an issue with the sound card then there is a low cost USB Audio Stick you can get to USE that instead of the onboard audio of a computer. I bought 2 of these for computers that have audio issues which were not the SPEAKERS, but the audio PORT or the audio chip messed up, and they work awesome. https://www.newegg.com/startech-com-icusbaudiob/p/N82E16829128004?Description=USB%20Audio&cm_re=USB_Audio-_-29-128-004-_-ProductHere are links about "how to use a scope to measure frequency." from Google.

https://www.circuitspecialists.com/blog/taking-measurements-with-an-oscilloscope/

What is see might not be in the audible range. It is not unusual to see stuff on a scope not elated to want you want.
2nd time this Topic has been brought up...did you follow any advice from the 1st one ? ?Hi

Your oscilloscope has 10 divisions across the display and if there is 7 rises and falls across the display with each division = 2ms or 2 khz that would be about 2.4 khz square wave.

If you want to test your hearing the more modem way is with words not tones as explained on this web site
https://www.blameysaunders.com.au/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI04vi3cr65gIVjIqPCh3ftwqgEAAYASAAEgJmrvD_BwE

There is a test button and you will get a report at the end which is more accurate than a tone test.
Dave,
Thanks for the information
I get a tone at the speaker.I'm guessing it's about 2000 cycles.
It's a circuit made up of a 9v bat 3904 &3906 a cap 2 resisters and speaker.
With my finction gen the sign display is good when I put in a sign wave
and square wave.Mastermind,
Thanks a lot. those 5 sites you gave me were very good tutorials
I,m learning the osc and seems each day something new.Hi

If you are only seeing upside down L's on the screen i.e only the leading edge of the square wave it is possible you have the triggering set to leading edge only or the scope isn't fast enough to display the trailing edge.

Looking at the manual for the scope http://radiorestorer.com/bkt1466scope.PDF

It seems it is an older analog scope in which case it is unlikely to be a trigger setting (there being only 3 trigger settings on page 16) more likely the scope lacks bandwidth to display the trailing edge. It's not a fault just a limitation.

Solve : What is it used for. Adapter?

Answer»

The 15 pin VGA I understand but the other end what is it and what might one use it for? That's an adapter to adapt VGA to HDMI. HDMI is a newer (not brand new) video standard that handles high resolution video as well as audio. All the TVs I've PURCHASED in the last 8 years or so have all had HDMI inputs. Same with newer computer video cards and monitors, they all support HDMI now.

Solve : Can I work at home with my tech skills??

Answer»

As you might know, I am now 81 years old and living on Social Security. It is alright, but it so happens I live in California, among the most expensive states for cost of living. My Electric bill is beyond human understanding.

So, I ahve been thinking. Can I work at home with my tech skills? Maybe some of you have and can give me honest answers. Some things I have tried and found that I had to spend money to make money. Not a great idea.

Here is just one example I found in a search:
These 10 hottest tech skills could pay off the most in 2020
Quote

In today’s job market, technology skills are crucial.
The demand for IT workers is high, pay for tech jobs is competitive, and more workers in nearly every line of work are putting effort into learning data and technology skills. But with the rapid rise of advanced technology, it can be difficult to pin exactly which skills will pay off the most in the long run.
Yeah, but can I do any of that at home?
I can not drive a car and I don't like to walk. My knees are weak.
You may be able to find a job doing telephone tech support. I know 2 people that worked at those type of jobs.

One (my niece) did software support for software she knew nothing about. They provided her with a large binder with scripts to run through for all the software they supported. She just ran through the script for that particular software application and if she got to the END of the script and the issue wasn't fixed, she passed the call off to the next level of support. I don't think she got paid very well since she didn't stay at that job very long.

Another person I know is pretty technically knowledgeable and does phone tech support without a provided binder. I suppose he gets paid a decent salary since he's been doing that type of work for awhile. However, he seems to get laid off every 2-3 years.

I know another person that does customer support from home for retail stores. When people call in with problems with something they purchased, he helps them and arranges for returns and refunds and things like that.

Here's a link that might give you some leads for tech support jobs: https://www.thebalancecareers.com/tech-support-from-home-3542621

The last 10 years or so of my career, I worked mostly from home as a software engineer. Not sure if your skills are current enough to be able to do that.

I am also retired and living in California. I can't imagine trying to live on what Social Security gives me per month. Good luck finding some gainful employment.Strollin,
Thanks for the link.
I will look at it and maybe I can do it.
While not very tech, it might be worth checking into:

A friend of mine got a job as a Taxi dispatcher and he is able to work from home. The business that hired him redirected their calls from their business number to his home where he also unable to get out of his home due to handicap, but he is capable of answering phone calls and dispatching the cabs to the customers. It doesn't pay crazy money but its a little above minimum wage. When waiting for calls he SURFS the internet playing games or WATCHING Dr Who etc. Then pauses the game or whatever he is doing to do the job.

Not sure how much uber has hurt the business but he still works for them and gets paid to work from home as a cab/taxi service dispatcher.

Maybe check with taxi companies in your area to see if they need any work from home dispatchers. He was one of 4 people who worked from home answering calls and setting up customers with cab drivers. He works in Toronto though Canada as far as location of the job he has.I work from home though I wasn't looking to do so when I was job-searching (about 6 and a half years now). I program desktop software in C# and do a little bit of support (mostly being brought in when the support staff can't fix something or to set up/configure something I worked on). I also man the after-hours (we advertise 24/7 support) in week long shifts with two others. (Which finally gave my smartphone a reason to exist)

The more interesting aspect relevant to your expertise is that the bulk of the support work is dealing with an old OS called Theos Corona and software written in the 80's. (our "old" software). Which really brings about the point that many companies are running quite old software and therefore they will occasionally need people with expertise with the software stacks- to fix problems or bugs, fix crashed setups for which nobody remembers how it works, etc.

As I understand you have Assembly, FORTRAN and COBOL experience which- if you look in the right places- can be a very high-demand skillset for older software setups that need maintenance.

As a correlated example, sometime in the early 90's, somebody stole all the source code to the old software, quit, and then basically "forked" it and started to sell it under-the-table to companies in our industry, even poaching a few customers that were working with us. They made their own modifications to the programs for those customers. Well, a few years ago that guy literally died, and now those companies are scrambling because they literally have zero support. We can't help them because we aren't doing new installs of our old software, they weren't one of our customers anymore either so aside from not knowing what customizations they had, their features were never considered for the windows programs.

In that scenario, A consultant with a strong grasp of THEOS Corona and it's VAX-11-like BASIC would be an incredibly valuable person to that company, as the company did have the source code- but couldn't find anybody who would work on it.

Similar situations, I'm sure, play out across the globe for COBOL, FORTRAN, and perhaps even older embedded assembly stuff. At that level of "desperation" whether you would work remotely via a terminal link or remote desktop or whatever probably is less important than the fact that there is now hope that they can be brought back online.

of course I suppose the trick would be finding those relevant to your skills and inserting yourself into the conversation somehow! The biggest problem you face is that in many online fields, you're competing with the whole world. And therefore with billions of people who can simply afford to work for far less than you can (living in one of the most expensive countries in the world).

Therefore, whatever work you look for, you should look to make sure that it leverages the fact that you're in the US, know the country/area and can legally work there. That can be your competitive advantage or disadvantage, depending on how you play it.

Good Luck Just realized one job to share here that pays from home is that there are websites that have forums that they want to keep the forums lively and so a friend of mine is paid in amazon gift cards by the website owner to moderate as well as logon as alias identities and when a subject gets slow and the forum needs more activity, he will go on as an alias and stir it up some. This way people will go back to the website to chat about whatever the subject is and the website owner gets paid money for the ad traffic from people visiting the website.

Not money to get rich on, but EXTRA money that he is able to buy stuff on amazon and income tax free loop hole of gift cards because its not all that much money that he earns. He makes about $100 a month doing this and enjoys it. He just logs on once or twice a day to check on things and only has to spend time there when he has to give the forum a kick to get people to communicate etc or kick a trouble person out who is spamming etc.

He found this job when searching for work at home moderator jobs.
Hey,

Just a thought. You could maybe put a listing for yourself in the local paper if it has a website. Get them to come to you to save yourself going out. Can't believe your 81. Hat of to you! You've helped lots of people including me in the past and your still going, so a big thank you for all your help to me and everyone now and forever. Hope something good comes your way, you deserve it!

I read that BC said you had COBOL. This is on LinkedIn. It says "This is a nine month contract position and US Citizenship required" and it can be 100% remote.

https://www.linkedin.com/jobs/view/1676707330?trk=li_ziprecruiter_Global_careers_jobsgtm_job-dist&utm_medium=jobdist&utm_Thank you for the encouragement.
That COBOL job that you found has already been filled & they wanted a full-time employee. And I am not familiar with the new variations on COBOL. But years ago I did do quite a bit of programming in what has now become all generically DB2 but no longer exists as the original product. It was a great product for its time and made it POSSIBLE to take CP/M computers and have them do stuff that ordinarily would of been done on a mainframe. That was cool.
But nowadays I think I'm too old to do any real coding. I am so slow. It probably would take me one hour to write one line of useful code. That is supposed to be an inside joke. Somewhere somebody calculated that for each line of valid code it consumes one hour of somebody's time if you include the debugging, deploying and revising needed to keep it going.
By the way, I am doing this using Dragon naturally speaking and it is not the newest version. After some effort I discovered how to make this version work with Windows 10. So maybe that is something I could to, I can show people how to take an older version of Dragon NaturallySpeaking and use it with Windows 10. The older version can be purchased for a very attractive price. Maybe I should start up a little business offering night help to people that have trouble with Dragon NaturallySpeaking.
End of my voice recognition.

So I've been researching Hattaun recently because, like you, I noticed a great deal. I think it's way too good to be true. Like 80% off with free shipping from Hong Kong on a large item. They have a US phone number in Idaho they don't answer and a physical address listed in another state that looks to be in a residential neighborhood. All their prices SEEM to be on the $50 to $60 range from pillows to mini refrigerators. I also sent them an email with no reply. The bottom of their page has the PayPal symbol but they don't accept it as a payment method. PLUS the company has only been registered for less than a month. Well why is he wasting our efforts. Cox has published a suitable answer to the question. On other forums thins issue has come up and the general repose is something like this:
The Cox terms of service of home users may use either static or dynamic IP address. The home user may have to power down the modem for up to 36 hours to get a new IP address. An alternative is to install a modem with a different MAC address.

The funny part is he actually referenced the "whatismyIP" sites instructions which stated exactly this, in no uncertain terms. No, have not contacted cox because I figured it would be a run around.
I guess I will and get back to you then.OK...I just called up COX...you tell me if this sounds like BS or what.

On whatismyip.com....it reads that my IP is: 68.98.137.201
on my command prompt it reads my IP is: 192.168.1.102

Cox says the difference is DUE to one reading the external or something?

They also say the 68.98.137.201 IP addresses is changed every 24 hours automatically by the COX DHCP server.
They claim that were this not the case I likely would NOT be able to connect to the internet.
They also claim if this is not changing then it is an issue with the router (linksys).

So basically...I do not get it.
I have a dynamic connection...with a CABLE company.
When it was Comcast I could change my IP myself...with Cox I can't and am still banned from sites.

UPDATE:
Spoke to another person...who said the difference is with Comcast my PC was connected through hardwire NOT wireless.
He claimed if I disconnect the wireless, reset the hardwire modem, connect through hardwire, then follow whatismp directions...I will be able to change it.

Make sense?Quote

Yes....I know if you go cmd>>>>>run>>>>ipconfig.........the 192. shows

BUT if I go to what is my IP....I still even after running the steps get the same IP address: 68.98.137.201.

COX said it should change automatically every 24 hours...but 4 days later the address still is the same.

1) Disconnect the router
2) Reset the modem

Solve : safe legit sight to download movies from?

Answer»

I don't want to join a monthly payment type movie download provider like netflix etc. but rather a pay-per-movie provider. Any suggestions for a provider I can trust with my DEBIT card info etc.?
You mean copyrighted movies.
Are you serious? Have you note read the news about copyright crackdown?
Why not just ask "What is a safe way to rob bank"?

To date, the only sites that stay online do one of two things:
1. Charge some kind of fee to the user, which helps buy permission.
2. Somehow get advertisers to help pay for the costs.

Even the allegedly "free" sites are in some way getting income. Running a broadband server costs money. Every DAY. And using Copyright material brings legal problems. You either pay the movie studios or pay the Nattiness. (Om sp,e copuntires YHU might bribe someone to look away.)

The story below may seem rather unlikely. But it could happen to you.
THE FBI LOCKED MY COMPUTER!!!
Quote

Another legal issue. The F.B.I. can not legally hand out fines. They can arrest me, but I would need to then go before a judge, and only after being convicted would I be punished. If the F.B.I. demanded money for an alleged crime then that would be called a bribe and what they would be doing is extortion. Also, the F.B.I. would never alert a criminal that they knew he had evidence prior to an arrest.
Yes, that was a hoax. But there is something to learn. The people who send out such hoaxes believe they will never be caught e becomes theyare doing something harmless. Just like some think the watching pirated movies is harmless. In both cases harm is being one.

Some TV networks do offer free viewing of past episodes of popular sees. But your question was about movies. And yes, there are a few places where some movies are available with no cost to the viewer.

Geek...i believe he was inquiring about legit good sites...
Thanks patio. Yes I am. I'm gladly willing to pay for the download provided the price is reasonable, and the site is legitimate so I don't have to worry about my debit card information being compromised. Sites like Netflix charge a monthly fee for downloads which is not what I want. I have a short list of movies that I want to watch, and then save to my hard drive for future viewing. I may not download any other movies for several months, therefore I don't want to be paying a re-occuring monthly MEMBERSHIP fee for nothing during that time.
I am aware of the fact that inquiring about commiting illegal copyright theft on this forum is against the rules, and that is certainly not my intention.
That said... Any suggestions for a good movie source?Quote from: Geek-9pm on May 01, 2015, 06:16:50 PM

The free movie sites usually don't have a selection of specific movies that I am looking for. I beg your pardon. I spoke in hast.
The sites that offer free movies have a limited seslection.
http://www.digitaltrends.com/web/where-to-watch-free-movies-online/
These you already know:
Amazon
Crackle
HULU
YouTube
Lessor known are:
Open Culture
TopDocumentaryFilms
SnagFilms
Vimeo

However, you want downloads. Most now is for streaming only, not downloads.
This link claims to have paid download information. I have not verified it.
http://movie-download-websites.no1reviews.com/

I did know of a site that allows limited downloads and charges by the month. But you can cancel at any time. If you have good broadband, buy a premium account are download a bunch of stuff and then cancel your subscription, If you want.
Lessor know pay for site with movie downloads.
Last time I looked they had thousands of titles, including some of the most popular.
But read it over very carefully. The quality of the materiel varies and you get charged for the bandwidth used. And some of the stuff is real bottom of the boat.

EDIT: Some free movies are clips or shorts. Like these:
https://vimeo.com/121156397Public domain movies are free to download. Most are old, but some are very good.

There are public domain movies available at archive.orgIf you insist on posting affiliate links your posting priveledges will dissapear...You can try Vudo and Youtube where you can buy and rent movies and watch them whenever you want. Vudo is a wallmart venture that deals with movie and TV shows. For free movies you can try Tubitv, snagfilms, and popcornflix.

Solve : checking e-mail from other accounts on a Gmail account?

Answer»

I have had this issue a few times. I have a GMAIL account and I would like to b able to check mail from other addresses on it. I successfully managed to do so with a couple of accounts. However, I am still struggling to link others to it. I keep getting the following error message:

Server denied POP3 access for the given username and password

I have had this issue with a couple of gmail accounts. Please advise how to fix this problem!Sounds like you want to have more than one Gmail account. Is that right? On my system I have for email accounts with email and I am able to access them WITHOUT the need to switch my user account.
There are a number of different possibilities you can have. Multiple operating systems, several WINDOWS user accounts, different email clients and an email SERVICE that is browser driven.
From your description I'm not able to clearly grasp what combination of things you're using that does not work for you.
Here is an experiment you might try that to should not cause any harm. Create a new user account on your Windows computer and then LOG into your favorite browser and to yourself to the Google online email account. Offhand I don't remember exactly what the URL is, but I think if you just Google Gmail it will give you a link into email browser-based client. When you sign in and use your username and password, you should see somewhere an option to switch to another account. Are you not able to find that online version of Google Gmaill? Please clarify.

Solve : About dual booting and changing between kali linux and windows?

Answer»

So my name is Kostas and i am 16 years old. I want to run Kali Linux and i dont really know how. I know the theory but i have some questions before i continue in action. In order to run Kali i need to have a LIVE usb right? Done. So when i load kali in my live usb what do i do in order to run it? I shutdown my computer and jsut turn it on with usb plugged? Boot computer and when it gives option to boot from USB agree. Might have to go into BIOS and change boot order for USB to be listed before Hard Drive in boot order listing. Other method is pressing F9 and chose boot device after the splash screen of the system and before windows boots. F9 will pop up a menu to select an alternate boot device. *However if you have boot order as USB PRIOR to Hard Drive in BIOS, each time the USB stick is installed into a USB port prior to boot it will boot the Linux off that USB flash drive. What confuses me is the User doesnt know the difference between a live Linux distro or if he actuallt wants it installed...i'll wait for feedback.Anybody that wants to start into Linux should consider this site:

yeah you are right i dont really know the difference. Can u plz explain it?A live Linux Distro runs from the CD/USB...if you find you want it installed and dual = boot i would suggest a 2nd HDD to install to...it's the cleanest method.
Then it's a simple method of selecting which drive to boot to at STARTUP.

Solve : Corrupt Thumb Drive Data?

Answer»

Was wondering if anyone had any suggestions of how to recover data from a partially corrupted thumb drive. The user claims that one day files were missing. I ran ATTRIB -H -R -S /S /D H:*.* on this drive to see if I could recover data and found a BUNCH of it, but it doesnt know the correct file extension for the data. I knew the documents were word documents and so I renamed all files using RENAME *.* *.doc and was able to open it in MS Word but its all scrambled. I then renamed them as *.txt and was able to see more information about the files, but its as if maybe they weren't exactly .DOC files or SOMETHING because its just as scrambled looking in text form as in word form. Looking at them as text files shows they claim to be Word Documents as in screenshot snippet that I attached. Not sure why all the Chinese characters when it should all be in english.

Wondering if anyone know of any free tools to help get their data back from the scramble that they have. Its unfortunate that the user only saved their data to this 1GB thumb drive that was heavily used. I was surprised that they didnt save it locally and then save to USB stick as a backup and that the USB stick was the single work location for their data going back of 11 years of use.

First thing I'd suggest is creating an image of the drive as it currently stands. Ought to have done that before making any changes.

Then run a disk check (chkdsk).

I would guess that it suffered a similar fate to a 256MB flash drive I used years ago. Basically the clusters managed to get cross-linked as well as lost, and files were sharing clusters so say in the middle of a program source code file there would be 4KB of some random executable, or vice versa. using chkdsk basically made every file only it's first 4KB cluster, and the rest of the data was all converted to the "lost chains" CHK file, with no indication of what file they belong to, what order, etc. Even being able to read the text, rebuilding any particular file was difficult to the point where I didn't bother. Dealing with Docx files (which are zip archives) and trying to piece the files back together would be even more difficult.

As BC_Programmerhas said first make an image of what you can read. A program I sometimes use is HDD rawcopy from here https://hddguru.com/software/HDD-Raw-Copy-Tool/
This will copy the pen drive to another drive or to a file on your computer. The file on the computer isn't in a FORMAT which recovery software can use just so you can make other copies to TRY things with.
Have you asked the customer what word processor or version like are they docx files. I suspect they are not not doc files but word perfect or works files. The header part of the document looks like WP or Works.
There are free file viewers and programs like Reclaim me will sort the files into there types like DOC DOCX even if the extension is changed pretty cool ah.
You can download a trial copy from here https://www.reclaime.com/
Free file viewers https://windowsfileviewer.com/file_types

Please don't continue doing the recovery on the original drive only on raw copies.Thank You both for help with this. I will try this at work tomorrow to see if any of it can be saved. I told the user that if they have any other computers they plugged this into that maybe there is an archive local copy somewhere as Office sometimes does that. And / or if it has been used on multiple PC's have them try it on each one...i've had stiks like that showed corrupt on 1 PC and normal on another...no idea why.

Solve : Pc (Win 10) with broken screen stuck in safe mode ans won't let me use hdmi?

Answer»

Hello, i am having a serious issue with my All in one MSI PC. The screen on the computer is broken. So i was using it on an external hdmi TV without any issue (only hdmi output supported on pc). So, i did sort of a disk scan with it, don't know what happened but without paying much ATTENTION, it got into safe mode. Since, it won't let me use the HDMI output to display on another screen (i can't afford the replacement of the screen ATM). I have tried disconnecting the in-built screen cable inside, but still it won't work.

I was guessing that even if i couldn't see anything, i could enter my account password (with the help of NUM lock light on boot). Let me explain, when i TURN on the pc, Num lock light is on, the it goes off automatically and i will have to switch it back on with the num lock light key. I guess it is ASKING for password even if i used to use a PIN in normal mode. But i can't go any further. Can you please help me. I have a lot of important things in this pc.

Thank you in advance.

Solve : Which is better, Google or Alexa??

Answer»

Which is better, Google or Alexa?
Or Elmer Fudd?
Google Assistant is much better at handling free-form, web-based queries than Alexa is. Alexa tends to be a stickler for wording, and for particular sequences of WORDS. Alexa also leans heavily on Wikipedia for general knowledge queries, while Google's search is more comprehensive.
https://www.pcmag.com/news/amazon-echo-vs-google-home-which-smart-speaker-is-best
Most of you already know you can use Google for searching things on the Internet by using Google voice. Amazon has an electronic device that does about the same thing it is called Alexa and the command to start actually is its name Alexa. For the Google device you say hey Google and then the commander search for something.

After watching a YouTube video, I am no longer sure which is better. But one thing I know for sure, I'm not going to pay hundred dollars for something that already have. Let the explain that last remark. I have both android and Apple devices that I can talk to. In fact, I even got one device that has Microsoft eight on it and it also has the same voice command you find on Windows 10.

But for dictation I always prefer using Dragon Naturally Speaking. Nevertheless, you can do a decent job of dictating with either the Google or the Amazon device if you know how to do it.

Anyhow, that is not really my question. My question is about how to change the the start up command. For some applications it would seem advisable to use a different command to start the device up. For example, you might have somebody in your office or school that his name Alexa and if you called her ACROSS the room your device might RESPOND with a good answer..

Of course is nobody named Google. Why in the world ever chose that name is the on me. Really, what is a Google?

So my question is this: Can you change the attention word for either of these devices? Imagine the fun you can have one of these devices you gave it a different name as the attention thing.

Suppose for example you had a THONG named as Elmer Fudd. That can be rather funny if other people were listening to you and they heard you call on Elmer Fudd for weather forecast.
For Alexa you can choose the WAKE word from these 4 choices: Alexa, Amazon, Echo or Computer.

Solve : Cheap Cell Phone Plans Under $20.?

Answer»

Here is the USA tou can Google:
Cheap Cell Phone Plans
And find lots of new and old firms that claim they can do it.
Myself, I have not DONE very well with cheap phone plans.
But I am still trying.

So my question is this:
Do you have a good cheap plan you found in your area?

I saw one that says you can pay as little as $3 a month if you already have a phone.
Well, if it too good to be true, it is too good to be true.

BTW, CONSUMER Cellular is good, but it is not under $20 today.
Here in Britain, if you own a phone yourself, you can get what are called 'SIM-only' contracts. You pay monthly for voice and data and text service. My contract with VIRGIN Mobile costs 13 pounds, (17 US dollars) each month, and for that I get 2 GB data, 2500 call minutes, and unlimited text messages. In Europe we don't pay for incoming calls or texts. If I don't use all of the data it rolls over to the next month. My contract is a 'rolling 30-day' one, that is, I can terminate with 30 days' notice.republicwireless.com offers $20 / month service that gives you unlimited talk & text and 1GB data. You can BUY a phone from them OR you can bring your own phone.
If you have your own phone, you go here to see if it's compatible with their service: https://republicwireless.com/pages/compatible-phones.

I currently subscribe to this plan and it's decent for me.

Solve : Over the air tv signal to smartphone?

Answer»

Can one get over the air TV signal to smartphone? Hulu and other pay services offer Live TV via their smartphone app. You wouldn't be able to simply receive OTA signal on a smartphone since you WOULD need a receiver and an ANTENNA.Here in the USA there was a MAJOR change to all TV broadcasting.
The FCC ordered that TV had to be digital and not use the VHF spectrum.

You can get a hand held TV set to watch while you walk. But making a smartphone to grasp TV SIGNALS is not a popular thing. SEEMS a gadget like this would work except I am 70 miles from broadcast tower That device is exactly what I described, a receiver and an antenna. As you mentioned that you are 70 miles from the tower, a rabbit ear antenna such as that is usually only good to receive nearby signals. If yer gonna do it make sure you can return it for full refund...just sayin.

Solve : screen recorder?

Does anyone know of a S.R. that is either free or at the least LOW in price? I have seen one, that they are asking $69.2 screen capture programs that I know of :

1. Sreen CAST O'Matic, free version limited to 15 mins per capture, you can upgrade for unlimited length
2. Capturewiz pro, there's a free TRIAL with no feature restrictions for 30 days, but would be $39.95
to buy a key code that will ALLOW unlimited usage past trial

I use the capturewiz pro program and it's good, but I've know somebody who uses the screen cast-o-matic program and that works fine for him as well.

Harry, we still don't know for sure exactly how you get your email. Please say exactly how you do it. Do you use an email client or do you always access your email via your web browser? We can't tell this by merely knowing that BT is your ISP. Many ISP's allow users to get email either WAY, or both ways. So, how are you doing it?

I have no idea what you said above. For example, what is the world does "until microsoft and others took 3/4 sites of the web" mean?
soybean I understand how it works. I'm trying to keep it as simple as possible since there seems to be a lack of clarity here on which email service does what. Harry and I have been down this EXACT same road before. He is NOT using an email client, it's the free Yahoo web mail and he is concerned that his spam box is filling up. I've tried to explain (in another thread) that that's what the spam box is for, to collect spam mail, and that Yahoo is the WORST at stopping spam from getting to your inbox. Yes, the email addresses, such as @cox.net or @bellsouth.net, are provided by the ISP, but not the email client. And to reiterate for harry, the email client is the software installed on the user's computer.

Yeah, if the ISP maintains a backup somewhere, then you could request help from their tech support to retrieve some mail. But, I wouldn't want to rely on that. Under normal circumstances, once a POP mail user downloads mail, the mail is no longer retrievable via normal procedure. If the user logged on to his ISP email account, he would not see the mail that has been downloaded to his computer. It's gone from the server's regular message storage space. Also note that what I say all makes perfect sense....to ME

Mail clients, web mail, email, servers and all is confusing without really thinking about what, and how, your saying things...

Edit: That snowman is supposed to be laughing. Looks kinda creepy actually!Yeah, I thought that snowman looked dangerous, like it was wanting to clamp its jaws on me.

So, you say Outlook Express is provided by the ISP? No, but the @.??.net is. I haven't used it in a while but know you can configure it with free POP accounts, the free Yahoo not being one of them...

I suppose we should ask Harry what his email address ends with. @Yahoo or @bellsouth or whatever. That would probably help narrow it down.Yeah, well, harry, it's not great to get yet another pitifully brief reply from you. I don't know about other contributors, but my patience is wearing thin. Your responses are too brief to provide any clear indication of WHETHER you now have some understanding of the VARIOUS points about email clients, POP mail vs. webmail, etc., that have been discussed here, or whether you're still clueless about this stuff.

Look, you've been given ample information in this discussion to draw a conclusion. What would that conclusion be?

1) Yahoo sucks for spam control.
2) If you want to resolve the spam issue, you need to move away from Yahoo and move to another email service, one that will give you some serious spam control options.Quote

I think you've been around this forum long enough to know it's very uncharacteristic of me to use the tone of expression I used in my previous message. Don't expect people to waste time trying to help someone who does not show they are really trying understand and work with the forum members to resolve their problem. You just haven't demonstrated that at all, here.

As I said, your replies are pitifully brief. They are incoherent, illogical, poorly written. My mother is 83. I honestly think I'm not exaggerating when I say she shows a better grasp, when she asks me computer questions, of the technical content of this discussion than you. I think that's inexcusable. Solve : MY laptop screen turned Yellow !!!! HEEELPPP !!!!?

Answer»

Hi im relly basic with comp,i dont know much but my SCREEN TURNED YELLOW!!!! please help, dont know what to do !!!!!Neither do we, really.

Maybe if you provided us with some very basic essential information we could get started...

I'll humour you because it's christmas TIME;
What kind of laptop, how old, what OS, WHEN does it turn yellow? Have you kept the cooling system clean?

oh god,its advent, turned yellow about 11 am today, what is the cooling system? to be honest my son has been watched some cartoons on you TUBE and close laptop accidentally(he is 19 months) thats when its happend ,i can still use it but everything is Yellow !!!!Please help me,cant find any information about this problem anywhere im on VistaDid you try turning off the laptop by keeping the power button pressed?

If that doesn't work, disconnect the power cord and remove the battery.

Start it up again. Still a yellow screen? Then describe to me what you can and can't see. (IE: Is it entirely painted in bright yellow or just a yellow hue?) Hi just done what you wanted me to do and its still yellow! Every white part of the page (any page web included) is now yellow, weird is, that my start stripe(sory about my description, dont know the proffesional name) MUST be on the left side on the screen ,not on the bottom like use too other ways screen is not visible becomes really funny: looks like there are 2 the same pages -one on another and its all shaky...If thats make sens.....sory about my writing-im trying hard in english Alright, so the screen turns yellow in Windows?

Is there any visible damage on the monitor? You said your son shut the screen. He didn't damage anything did he?

To rule out Windows being damaged, lets boot into safe mode.

Restart the laptop and keep tapping F8 before Windows loads. You should be presented with a screen that says 'safe mode'. Click enter and WAIT for Windows to load. No yellow screen? Report back. Yellow screen? Report back. You'll have to restart the laptop to get out of safe mode again.
done everything like you said...still bloody yellow..... :'but fuuny enough only white stuff is yellow, the rest is in colour- like it should beYou didn't really answer my questions. screen is not damaged, perfect condition LCD i tryed do everything like you said but with no RESULTS....
read something on www.ask.com about pins, and graphic cards....i quess im to stupid to do something about it,just worried about price if i need to repaire it......http://forums.vnunet.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1156992&tstart=0

please have a look at this it sounds like my problem but i have no clue what the resolution isHave you tested it on an external monitor?

I assume you went into safe mode and that everything still looked yellow, yes? hi there ...just back from work, laptop was off for about 5 hours, just swiched it on and yellow is gone...........
it works normally........weird...something going on....is it possible that it MAY get to " tired" as i have it on for about 5 ,6 days sometimes ..........maybe i should give it a rest sometimes...?what do u think? It does sound like something might be breaking down. I'd keep some cash from getting into the hands of Santa Claus just in case...

Solve : Uploading memory card from my computer?

Answer»
I would like to upload selected PICS to a memory card on a digital picture frame .
How can I upload a memory card from my computer ?If you're computer has a compatible card reader you can insert the card there are use it like a removal USB DEVICE. card readers are oblong slots, usually at the front. it might have writing near it (something like M2, SD) the card will only go in one way and only if it's compatible so don't force it too much.

If you don't have a card reader, if the card is from a digital CAMERA then there should be a USB lead with the camera that will allow you to CONNECT the camera direct and upload photos to the card there.

Solve : help computer shuts down?

Answer»

okay i have a problem with my computer and i am not very good with computers either. look my computer shuts down by itself after a while of using it and when i try to TURN it back on it says cpu overheating or sometimes it says failed overclocking but i have not overclocked it or done anything since i bought it. my fans work fine and it has never done this since i bought it like 3 years ago so i don't know how it's overheating. the only way i can get back on is letting it sit for a while, o and when i try to burn a CD it will shut down instantly can somebody please help me.Turn computer off. Open the case. Use a can of compressed air to clean it inside (do NOT use vacuum cleaner!).
While cleaning fans, hold their blades with a pencil to avoid any damage.
With case opened, turn the computer on, and see, if all fans are running.

When done...

1. Please, post some computer info:
- processor type, amount of RAM (hold Windows key, hit Pause/Break key)
- hard drive size/free space (open "My Computer", right click on hard drive letter, click "Properties")

2. Download, and install SpeedFan: http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php
Post your computer temperatures:

ok i blew the fan out and it seems to be working fine but it still turns off after a while.

here is some info on my computer: CPU-pentium 4 3.06GHz
Ram-512mb
Harddrive-160GB/36GB free space

My reading for my fan are as follows:
GPU: 47C
SYSTEM: 34C
CPU: 70C
AUX: 81C
HDO: 32C
CORE: 46C
AMBIENT: 0Quote

CPU: 70C
This is your main problem. Depending on Pentium 4 model, max temps for it are listed at 67.7C-69C
You're melting your processor down.
Don't use the computer until the problem is solved.
You may START with reapplying new thermal paste. If you need to use the computer inthe time being, get a large external housefan and have it blow at the computer. On one condition....temps don't go to 70C

Solve : my computer is freezing up.?

Hello,
I have searched for computer lockup questions similar to mine but I think my situation might be Little different or I havent found a DISCUSSION as similar as mine is so I thought I would post my question hoping you all could help me pinpoint my problem. I'm running windows XP professional with service pack3. I have an amd sempron 2800+ 1.6 GHz processor, 2GB ram and 2 harddrives one with 80 and another with 111 GB of space (if you need more info about my computer please ask).

I play Warcraft but lately as I am playing my computer just seizes up. The SCREEN freezes in place whatever it is I'm doing. It began doing it only once a day but now it's becoming more and more frequent. It seems to only happen when I'm playing warcraft. But it HAPPENS acouple times when I'm surfing the web. My computer runs fine when I'm not doing anything on it and my screensaver runs all night without any issue. There's so many issues that would cause lockups I dont know what to do. I've checked my drivers but I don't see any "!" or "?"s. Ive recently reformatted so I don't think it's that. Please help me!
If there's something very similar posted in here to my topic I apologize in advance. Just didn't find anything similar. Thank you all for your help in advance. thank you. Do all the regular maintenence such as diskclean and defrag...
Then run all your malware scans including A/V and Trojan scanners...
Reboot and see if THINGS improve.Thank you very much for the info. I'll try that.

Solve : Downsizing video clips from digital camera in Qucktime format?

Answer»

Hey everyone!!!!

I have a Kodak easy share C813 digital camera, that records video clips in a quicktime movie format when they are downloaded to the computer, and they are about 10-13 MB in size, and they take forever to transfer over a NETWORK, such as sending them via IM or upoading to youtube, etc. I do have dial up which is one of the reasons i am sure but is there a way to compress these clips to a smaller format without losing too much audio and video QUALITY, so they transfer faster and take up less space? like using a different Codec? i am new to working with audio/video and WOULD appreciate any HELP y'all could offer thanks in advance

ccWhat I do to reduce filesize of videos is put them into Windows Movie Maker and, without doing anything to the original video, go to File --> Save Movie --> Next --> More Options and Best to Fit Size.
Keep bringing the file size down step by step until you see the framerate or Display Size at the bottom of the window CHANGE. You want to keep them the same and let only the Bitrate decrease.
Then save the movie.

Other than that, I don't think there is much you can do to compress videos.

Solve : Ubuntu by mail?

I only use Linux for a server OS (the one that runs my website...)
Great server OS, I dont use its GUI on the server though, thats a waste of resources. Where is your website?

And I don't mean that thing that makes me register. I've used Ubuntu as my main OS, in a virtual machine (which I do now), on a server, and as a Live CD to fix a busted computer. It's very handy to have around and is definitely worth learning, IMHO.

However, if you want a very minimalistic distro and you aren't afraid to get your hands dirty I suggest Arch Linux. I just started using it alongside Ubuntu in a Virtual Machine and I must say, it's pretty cool to get it all up and running yourself.Very Small Linux is pretty slick...Quote from: Raptor on December 25, 2008, 02:08:12 AM

Yes, I realize the homepage is a bit funny looking... I was messing around one day, and figured I would just leave it at that for now. Pointless website, really. Few hundred bots that fail to post each day.

I manage two other WEBSITES, off paid hosting. They are not my websites... I just manage them. I am extremely sure that the paid host is Linux, they do have a Windows hosting option, however, it costs more, and it would be kind of pointless.

None of the bots ever get thorough.

What concerns me is traffic... most bots only request the text of a page, and no images, and they usually dont handle javascript. Still, the text can really add up. I understand. You may be surprised that you are visited by other "things." I've not had any comment spammer problems but within a few days of putting the Honey Pot LINKS in they had attracted a few. If for no other reason then do it for the satisfaction

Only takes a few minutes to set up.

I think I can figure out the Wordpress spam blocker, however, I would rather just block every spammer from the entire site. How do I do that?
Your missing the point of having the Honey Pot. Adress harvesters are going to visit no matter if they can post or not. The Honey Pot links are only visible to these entities (and you in your control panel) and they will try to harvest them. If one does get by and registered they will get trapped in the Honey Pot and you can easily identify them as well as the people running the Honey Pot. The more spam/harvesters identified, the better.

Quote
Project Honey Pot is the first and only distributed SYSTEM for identifying spammers and the spambots they use to scrape addresses from your website. Using the Project Honey Pot system you can install addresses that are custom-tagged to the time and IP address of a visitor to your site. If one of these addresses begins receiving email we not only can tell that the MESSAGES are spam, but also the exact moment when the address was harvested and the IP address that gathered it.

I have a Word Press account but haven't used it yet. I'm thinking about switching as Blogger can be slow to load, just need to get around to it.

Sure can. Thats why both computers need to be virus free at all times and sport decent virus scanners. (IE: AVG)

Solve : blinkies are not animated in Windows Mail?

Answer»

I hope this is the appropriate place to ask. My uncle has only had Vista
for a short while. I'm not sure of the specs on his computer but it is a
brand new machine. It is a simple enough sounding problem but I have
googled with no luck so I hope someone here can suggest some things to me.
I do not have Vista myself and am HELPING my Uncle via email so I can't
actually look at what is going on.

His problem is that in Windows Mail when he recieves blinkies or smilies or
other small animations he cannot see them animated. They appear just LIKE
basic pictures when they are in fact animated gifs. Can anyone suggest what
settings he NEED to change so that he can see the blinkies animated. Or any
other suggestions on what could be causing this problem.

Thanks in advance

Deb
I know of no setting in Windows Mail that would do that.

Can your uncle ACCESS his email via webmail, in other words, via web browser? Keep in mind he may be able to do so but does not know it. If he uses an email account provided by his ISP, there's a good chance he can access his mail via web browser. I'm curious about whether he would have the same result when accessing his mail that way. It could be a troubleshooting step.

If your uncle does not know whether he can access his email account via webmail and if his email account is one provided by his ISP, try to visit the ISP's website and search for info on this, or contact their tech support.Thank you for your reply. I have been unable to get him to go and look at his webmail (he is a fairly new user of Vista - previously used windows 3 point something) so is a bit limited. I did however send him a direct link to a moving animation on the web and he is able to see it in his browser. I don't know if that narrows it down for you or anyone else. When I was thinking of a setting in Windows Mail I guess I was referring to maybe some type of security FEATURE in it... Thanks again for trying to help... oh and btw Merry Christmas

Solve : Is Site Advisor getting bloated??

Answer»

New update today. v28.0 added this to my Firefox.

If you click on the "McAfee SiteAdvisor" button, and click "Disable Secure Search", it will shrink back to the normal width. The update makes my status bar taller either way though. Hopefully, McAfee will fix that in its next update.I got the Safe Search turned off but the new rating icon is still much larger. Not good!

I made a small complaint at the McAfee forums. I really wish the size of the RATINGS icon would have stayed the same.

http://community.mcafee.com/showthread.php?p=543284#post543284yeah that really got me mad today.I don't use site advisor. Noscript + modified HOSTS file + manual cookie selection means very few connections I do not WANT to make.I agree here, installed the update and I'm not impressed.
I've got the same setup as Raptor in terms on Noscript, HOSTS, manual cookies, figured Siteadvisor couldn't hurt and have been testing it for a few months.
It may be booted from my system fairly quickly. It puts 2 02 bho's, 1 018 protocol and 2 023 services entries in a HJT log.

Sorry.Yea but I believe that is for IE only. I haven't FOUND an older version for Firefox yet..I have no use for it...
Every time i check it out it lasts about 2 1/2 minutes on my machine...
It's kinda like having a Bar advisor saying " patio don't go into that one...it's dark and seedy and FILLED with cigar smoke"...
I USUALLY Enter.I agree, it's never actually "saved" me. But the site advisor reports are useful and having it in the toolbar makes looking them up so much easier.Download.com has an older version for Firefox also. They have 26.6 and I have 28.0. Solve : MP3 copying onto usb flash stick problem.?

Answer»

I have a usb flash stick where I save all my .mp3 files for playing in the car. Normally no problem, but when I copy a mp3 file (lets call it X.mp3) from the pc to the stick, and try to play X.mp3, I get an error Code C00D11B1 message, followed by the attached message (Windows Media Player encountered a problem when playing the file). The file can be played on the PC with no problems. If I load all files together (including the 'problem' file), there is no problem; all the files can be played. File X.mp3 just does not seem to like being added onto the stick which already contains other files.

[attachment deleted by admin to conserve SPACE]Is there anything strange about this file either in size or naming with special characters etc? I had to change the name of an MP3 file before to get it to play without troubles before. I'd make a copy of this file on the PC and rename it and copy a renamed version of it to the stick such as test.mp3 and see if it then plays with no problems. No, I tried with different files on the Stick: copy to pc, rename, copy back to stick, attempt at playing. Error, both when I use WMA and when I use RealPlayer Cloud.Hard to understand. My guess is a hardware issue. Only a guess.
Is the file copy protected?
Have you tried other media players?
Have you tried other USB sticks?

DRM, Digital rights management, can make it hard for users to play their favorite music anywhere. Is there any resown to THINK it is a DRM issue?
The geek video is relevant only if it is a DRM problem. So don't watch it unless you are very curious.
http://socialjumpstart.com/8-mind-blowing-facts-digital-rights-management/
(The whole point of the above video is that nobody ever reads the terms of service. When you download a copyrighted file you have to agree. You do not own the file. It could vanish if the copyright owner wants.)
Thanks all of you, the problem has been resolved. I transferred all the files from the problem 16Go stick to a new (30Go) stick, and the problem has gone away: I can now at a later stage copy individual files from the pc to the new stick, and have no more problems playing thes files. No more errors Can anyone tell me what the problem what have seen to be? Old stick? It could be anything from specific driver for the flash controller in the stick to, a stick that is not operating within the normal parameters of normal USB sticks ( outside of tolerance ), to a damaged stick.

The good thing is that these days unless you have a large flash drive, they are dirt cheap to replace. I have a pile of these in a ziplock bag with data back ups on them etc as well as bootable tools and system recovery sticks marked with silver sharpie marker in case I need to reinstall the OS clean to my netbook for example that has no optical drive and had a system recovery software built into it to make a system recovery flash stick set of 2 sticks, 1 with the OS, and 1 with applications that are optional install.

Good to see you got it working.

I have only had 1 stick go bad on me in the 8 years or so that i have been using them. The problems I had with the one that died on me was that windows would complain when it connected that it wanted to correct for problems and I would ALLOW for it to correct these, and when reading data off of it it seemed to work ok, but when writing data to it it was super slow to the point that I thought it had STOPPED transferring to the stick, but there was a slow trickle of writing to this device. The good thing is that since it was able to read fine, but had write issues, i copied all the contents to my C: drive and then copied the contents to a new larger stick. The stick that failed was a 1GB stick that I got really cheap as part of a Live linux distro on a USB stick for like $5 back when 1GB sticks were like $8 new. I figured I'd save myself $3 and buy this to try out and likely format to use as a normal stick. The USB stick was a very cheap brand and it didnt last more than about a year of constant use daily. I tried all sorts of online free tools to try to RECONDITION the flash, but it had to have been damaged someway and maybe by design when it detects a flaw in its flash memory, the memory controller slows the transfer rate to point out that the stick is not to be trusted anymore. Just an assumption as for I am not sure if the internal flash controllers are smart enough or designed well enough to perform error checking and then to throttle the speed if there are problems like this when writing to the stick only whereas the reading from the stick was as fast as its always been. The file is corrupt...means either a bad file ...or your stik is getting ready to fail.Quote

Solve : Music on usb Flash stick “flutters”?

Have loaded about 20 mp3 files onto the stick (SanDisk Ultra USB 3.0, 32Go). When I play the music on my Windows 7 PC, all is OK, but when I play it on my car radio, the music “flutters” (rather like the needle on a vinyl record constantly jumping grooves). Other usb sticks are no problem on the car radio. The stick is APPARENTLY OK, and I have run h2testw.exe with POSITIVE results.
Something WRONG with the formatting? I used the SETTINGS shown in the attachment (FRENCH PC).
