Solve : can't use BBC4 website? |
Answer» Hi everyone, Sounds like a slow connection... My connection seems fine, 8,000 KBIT per sec.I must go now, I'll be BACK tonight. Thank you. If nothing comes off it here, I'm going to call the BBC tomorrow. Quote from: sandra on December 03, 2009, 06:52:50 AM First, it takes ages to access the website via IE7 (too old?) or Mozarella firfox 3.1The "BBC player" is just Adobe Flash Player. Right? Do you have the latest version of Flash Player installed, version 10,0,32,18? BTW, I'm listening to BBC radio right now. My Internet connection is about 1,500 kbit per sec. Quote from: soybean on December 03, 2009, 08:15:45 AM The "BBC player" is just Adobe Flash Player. Right? Do you have the latest version of Flash Player installed, version 10,0,32,18? BBC radio is great, innit ? I've also bookmarked an Irish talk radio station, http://www.newstalk.ie/, quite good, but not the same, they probably don't have the same amount of resources, I guess. No I don't have Flash Player, I have Quick Time which i've never used.. I don't know what BBC i-player means , i'd say it stands for internal player or something... Visit http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ If you don't have Flash Player installed, that page will confirm this. And if so, then go to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ and download and install it. To verify your installation succeeded, visit http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ again. You may need to close and restart your browser for the installation to take effect.okeedokee "you have version 10,0,22,87 installed" Why is it not listed among my programmes? It does not appear on your Programs menu because it's not a program you run separately from your web browser; it's a browser "plug-in" or "add-on", not a "program". In other words, it only comes into play when using a web browser to view web pages containing Flash content. However, if you open Programs and Features, from your Control Panel, you will see it listed there and it can be uninstalled. I see you don't have the latest version of Flash. I'd go ahead an update it, although I can't say for sure this will SOLVE your problem. Quote from: sandra on December 03, 2009, 01:06:56 PM I don't know what BBC i-player means , i'd say it stands for internal player or something... It's a radio and TV on-demand service. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BBC_iPlayer It is only available in its full form with TV to user with IP addresses within Great Britain, but the radio programmes (UK spelling) should be available world wide. So, it's somewhat working now but it still takes a bit longer for the site to be accessed (via IE7)... A colleague told me to empty the cash which i had done but only from within IE. She SAID do it from the start menu... THis probably did the trick, who knows?the CACHE (spelling) Quote She said do it from the start menu... Start Menu - Control Panel - Internet Options - General tab - Browsing History - Delete... button - check Temporary Internet Files - OK. |

Solve : DVD+RW or CD-R? |
Answer» I'm not sure where to post this question,so I came here.I have googled and read so many things, but STILL can't figure out what is what. I tried doing a system backup on a CD-R and found out that it wouldn't work.So I bought the one it recommended, which is DVD+RW and if I done it right,it took 2 of those to do a backup. But can you play music or download music on a DVD+RW and play them in a CD player? Or do the DVD+RW's strictly USED for backing up your computer stuff? I mean...for music and documents I have been useing CD-R's and haven't had a problem at all....but what else can these DVD+RW's be used for?It says you can rewrite over them....so I get that. But are they only for backing up or movie recording or....?? Just basically wondering what is the difference? Thanks ahead of time. ps--please move this post if I am in the wrong place.Thanx.Aside from the obvious fact that one is a CD and the other a DVD, many CD & DVD players will not play R/W discs. DVD-R or DVD+R is very low COST when bought in packs of 25 or more. They can hold enough data to backup most of the essential things on your computer. Use of RW CD or DVD is not a good idea. Except when you have a compelling reason for it. Such as a project where you only want to keep date for a short time and then destroy it. Read this: DVD+R and DVD-R 101: An EXPLANATION for Beginners As for the R/W discs, please believe all of us. They waste your time! Thank you so much....talk about a waste of money on those RW's,huh? Solve : Invalid user should close topic?? |

Answer» Quote from: soybean on February 07, 2010, 09:23:52 PM I think you're missing a point here. Even though a former member who started a thread is no longer a member, the discussion may still have value to FORUM visitors searching for discussions on a particular topic. Just because the person is no longer a member does not necessarily reduce or negate the value of the content in the discussion. As long as his original post and replies to it are in the forum, the discussion may still have value. Hold on.. I mean delete the posts that no one has POSTED on. however, "Allan" My friend (MUCH =/) Keep's notifying me and saying "This post has ended" So i am missing now point?I NEVER say that a "post has ended" - I don't even know what that means. I "notify" you when you respond to posts from threads that are 6 months old - which you constantly do.Quote from: Allan on February 08, 2010, 08:15:40 AM I NEVER say that a "post has ended" - I don't even know what that means. I "notify" you when you respond to posts from threads that are 6 months old - which you constantly do. Yes, and i am aware of that. So just leave me alone HMMMMM?!Quote from: Helper4789 on February 08, 2010, 08:17:06 AM Yes, and i am aware of that. So just leave me alone HMMMMM?!Just take the advice and stop giving out. You'll do a lot better here if you follow that advice.yeah you'd think the red text saying "this thread has not been posted in for 30 days"... would maybe be the first clue that it's a dead thread. So, again, do we post to existing threads which are arbitrarily deemed too "old" or do we create new threads and topics at will, for which OTHERS have come under criticism?Quote from: Aegis on February 09, 2010, 10:06:24 AM So, again, do we post to existing threads which are arbitrarily deemed too "old" or do we create new threads and topics at will, for which others have come under criticism? A poster with a similar problem is a different story. First: they are probably aware that the thread is old; they simply feel that it's CLOSE enough to theirs to ADD context to their issue. What is being discussed is a PROSPECTIVE "helper" having issues navigating the forum properly, and ignoring the aforementioned red warning and the fact that the OP they are trying to help has not been a member for years. Of course because are having issues the entire forum needs to be cleansed of these old posts. The proposal is to, from what I understand, delete all the very old posts that have no reply. This would make sense, except that the only way you could see such old threads is to purposely navigate to old pages of threads. Additionally calling it a "Waste of time" is kind of silly; the threads are obviously old and additionally OPs with no account will not appear hyperlinked in the forum pages anyway.Nicely stated.Quote from: Aegis on February 09, 2010, 10:17:29 AM Nicely stated.Well, there are two words I never thought I'd see following a post from BC Quote from: Allan on February 09, 2010, 10:19:25 AM Well, there are two words I never thought I'd see following a post from BCAfter FULLY reading (and re-reading if necessary) many posts from BC, you will truly appreciate his wisdom. |

Solve : Use more than 4GB of RAM on 32-bit system - is it possible?? |
Answer» What do you think? I've read Geoff Chappell's article several times, trying to find some weak spot and I don't see any. Actually, your still right; obviously there would be no gain to explain to most users that they could hack the kernel to enabled support of 4GB+ of RAM. I've actually been reading some of his articles. He basically documents inconsistencies on Function documentation. Of course, the fact that the FUNCTIONS he says "they did exist before Version X, but were undocumented" and seems to find that simply unacceptable are almost ALL simple little string utility functions. THere are a few pretty interesting functions in there, with curious names. I've actually wondered about that whole "32-bit operating systems cannot address more then 4GB of RAM" argument, for the same reasons Geoff stated. The only thing I can see as an issue here is that 32-bit windows will still use only 32-bit handles; but after some consideration, this might not actually be a problem either, only way to exhaust all possible 32-bit handles would be to have- well, all 32-bit handles. there are 2^32 possible handles, but the data they point to surely consumes more then a single byte of RAM. chances are in the case of 32-bit systems that are using huge amounts of RAM using this hack that it's possible (under undue stress to the system's memory) that the system will actually run out of handles to address the RAM with; and yet still have excess RAM to use. some might introduce the pagefile into this, but really there is no need. regardless of the actual memory capabilities of the system, on a 32-bit architecture, the memory used by a process is divided into user and system sections; per process data for the system in the upper 32-bits (probably things like window classes and window structures that are accessed via the API and the proper handles with those APIs) and process data in the lower 2GB (the actual data stored by the application). this is unmoving; regardless of the memory or configuration of a 32-bit system no process can allocate more then the available space (normally, the 2GB, but this can be changed with boot switches as well as Linker flags on the executable). So really, Virtual Memory is only used to swap this data into and out of RAM, and really is not addressed directly by the process (it can be, but that's a different story ALTOGETHER). Personally, while I find it a tad strange that they would leave this type of thing undocumented, it can easily be gleaned. First off, Windows SERVER 2003 Enterprise Edition 32-bit can address 32GB of RAM. that should kind of act as a clue that it's probably possible on a 32-bit system; the same licensing applies with processors; the number of usable processors can be found in the registry, too. Even though XP home is only supposed to support 1 processor, that value can be changed. However- we need to define "support" here; "support" and "can use" are not necessarily symptoms, and I doubt phoning MS with an issue or to report a bug in one of their software programs would really be accepted if you used one of these hacked systems; I think the "supported" maximums simply means that is the maximum they will support; they evidently leave out the whole licensing thing, which isn't surprising. If people knew how to easily, for example, make home edition use more RAM and processors, would they buy the professional edition where that was supported? probably not. Quote chances are in the case of 32-bit systems that are using huge amounts of RAM using this hack that it's possible (under undue stress to the system's memory) that the system will actually run out of handles to address the RAM with; and yet still have excess RAM to useYou can actually see that kind of warning in Geoff's article. We still don't know, if it really would happen. A question still remains: what's M$ point here in keeping it that way? Some of this is old news. The news is that you have ground it in VISTA. Windows 200 server used up to 16GB of memory, but only 2 GB could be visible to any one instance of an one application. B OT.INI would have the PAE switch. Quote Windows 2000 Usage ConsiderationsThe latest edition of the 2008 server documentation is available on the Microsoft web site. Rather large document. Just Google: SQL Server 2008 Books Online.Im running an HP laptop with 32bit vista. I have 4G of ram but im only getting about 3.5 out of it. Its maxed out. I do have a 2G pagefile.sys Just in Case tho... |

Solve : I'm planning to pay only 30% of my Comcast bill, from now on....? |
Answer» Probably, I can't do this, by I feel like ranting... I understand the reason you're upset about this. But, from a practical standpoint, does it really impact you? My DSL service is 1.5Mbps. For the life of me, I can't imagine why anyone needs 15Mbps unless they're just constantly downloading very large files, and I can't imagine why you'd need to be doing that.I agree, Broni, you are seriously freaking out over not getting 15+MBs? I've never gotten better than 415KBs. If I got 5MBs, I would thank my lucky stars. no he's "freaking out" because comcast promises one thing and DELIVERS another.Quote from: BC_Programmer on December 13, 2009, 09:53:59 AM no he's "freaking out" because comcast promises one thing and delivers another. Excellent Point !I think I can draw an analogy of sorts with a Pizza place. Some such locations have a promise of delivery within a certain period of time; say, 30 minutes or it's free. a Promise of sorts- a verbal contract even. advertisements, etc display this new feature. So, business picks up, because of this new promise. But guess what? because they were unprepared and are not beating the time limit often enough, they simply shrug it off; they'll tell customers "oh, it's just so busy" and so forth. Well, the only REASON your so busy is you promised something that you apparently cannot deliver because you were unprepared for the load on your business to meat that demand. This is probably a similar scenario to Comcast; people obviously choose their service based on a number of factors... one of these is the advertised speed. In this case- 15mbps. But because there are too many subscribers, or more precisely, because they are unwilling to devote more resources to improving their core architecture, they cannot ALWAYS deliver this to all customers, and invoke esoteric rules that define that the service will be throttled back over 70%... in this case, that reduces the effective download speed from 15mbps (1.875 megabytes/s) to 30% of that, which is a mere 562Kilobytes/sec. The fact is, all else being equal, the advertised speed should be the speed that it normally goes. If using this "advertised" speed for a certain unadvertised period of time suddenly reduces your speed to the same speed that can be had with far cheaper deals from comcasts competitors, exactly what do you GAIN? basically, what you are signing up for is not 15mbps service, but rather 4496 kbps service that happens to go faster for the first 15 minutes. As a comparison- I tested my connection right now: the most interesting thing is, even with that speed, if I am downloading- say, a Linux ISO or some other very large file, then my transfer rate boosts to nearly 60mbps at intervals for a few seconds. This is ALL advertised by my provider and is EXACTLY what I signed up for, it should NOT be a COINCIDENCE that what I signed up for and pay for happens to be what I get. In Broni's case, what he is getting is FAR less then what he is paying for.Quote If those Idiots we send to Washington had any guts at all this would be illegal...as well it should be.Quote no he's "freaking out" because comcast promises one thing and delivers another.I can't say it better. It doesn't matter how much I pay, it matters what I pay for. I pay for a web page to open in 1/8 of a second, not 1/2 of a second....just to be sarcastic, but seriously, it's a matter of a principal. I remember, Comcast started this whole crap with targeting just one application, BitTorrent and somehow, "those idiots in Washington" considered it illegal, so I believe, FCC stopped it. Well, Comcast found a better solution, throttling a whole piece. Another funny thing is this... Initially, I had 6Mbps connection. Then, Comcast with a big bang, announced a big, free speed "IMPROVEMENT", bumped the speed to 15Mbps. That's when the throttling started.Quote It doesn't matter how much I pay, it matters what I pay for.I hear you and acknowledge your point. I'd say Comcast and other cable providers need to be more honest in explaining to customers that Internet access speed via cable can vary. While cable generally offers higher maximum speeds, it tends not to be as consistent in speed as DSL. I believe numerous references can be found to support this statement. For example, http://compnetworking.about.com/od/dslvscablemodem/a/speedcompare.htm says: In practice, cable's speed advantage over DSL is much less than the theoretical numbers suggest. Why? * Cable modem services can slow down significantly if many people in your neighborhood access the Internet simultaenously. Quote from: Broni on December 12, 2009, 10:53:44 PM If you, or your neighbourhood exceed 70% of bandwidth limit for more than 15 minutes, they'll throttle your connection until bandwidth usage drops to below 50% for another 15 minutes. This does seem like a very crappy policy. Why not allow bandwidth usage to reach 100%? Are they afraid the cable might explode? And, then throttling down to 50% for 15 minutes. That sucks. Quote Cable modem services can slow down significantly if many people in your neighborhood access the Internet simultaenously.Agreed, but not from 15 to 3 Mbps! I know and you know, it's about throttling, not number of people using Internet. |

I then published this video in another folder (as .wmv i think) and then uploaded it to YT. It appeared to work No crunchy sound, no additional minutes added. Solve : MSCE, MCSA Certification (How to obtain)? |
Answer» OK, so I have been doing this stuff for awhile and now to go ahead and get my certifications. Unfortunately the networks are easier to figure out to work than trying to figure out how to get the cert. So I was wondering if anyone would be willing to tell me how; step by step and point by point. Also an estimated cost breakdown would be nice to. Well I currently have my MCP certification (70-270, the XP test, usually the first you take for the MCSE/MCSA 2000/2003 line of tests, of which there is seven). They restructured everything for the 2008 tests (Vista and Windows Server 2008) so I couldn't help you much out there. However the way I did it was to buy an exam prep book, you can find them at any Borders or other bookstore, can also buy them online if you choose to.The other thing to look for...this is after you have read the book cover to cover and are just fine tuning your knowledge...is to do a search for "actualtests" or "testking" + test # + torrent in google. It is possible to pass the tests by just memorizing these but you won't really learn anything. The microsoft tests are pretty tricky in their questions. You usually have to read through a paragraph or two before you get to the actual question their asking. The testkings/actualtests will show you exactly what the test will be like, sometimes they are exactly like the test. Hope this helps a bit, feel free to ask any more questions. From this point where would you take the test at?For microsoft tests you need to go to prometric.com , put in your location, type of test etc, and it will give you a list of testing centers. Usually they are at colleges, or sometimes exam prep "boot camps", things like that. I believe each microsoft test is around $125, Microsoft.com had an offer that I believe just ended, but you could double check. It was called "Second Shot", if you didn't pass the test on the first TRY they'd let you retake it for free. (There's also another testing center called Pearsonvue.com this place is good if you wanna take maybe your A+, CCNA, etc, also prometric has these as well) Thanks all of you very much. I am now on my way.I linked the wrong page earlier. http://www.microsoft.com/learning/mcp/default.mspx This page (and links on page) will tell you everything you need to know about msca/msceQuote Thanks all of you very much. I am now on my way. Bring plenty of money.Just be careful when relying on testkings, I heard that Microsoft was suing Testking because they were never allowed to give out the actual exam. So the test you take might be different. Good luck, I'm right there with you. Brainbench is one of the better ones.Microsoft hates the testkings/actualtests/braindumps etc, but I can tell you from experience, at least for the one test that I have taken, that they are word-for-word. But if you just attempt to memorize all the answers you immediately fail because those dumps are upwards of 200 questions, and with microsoft where you have to read through about two paragraphs before you get to a question, it'd be like reading War and Peace, so learn the material and only use them as a guide. hi people... can any one help from where do i get the latest dumps for mcsa and i have ALREADY finished my 270 paper and 290... i heard we get a certificate from Microsoft.. i tried lots for shipping option but cant find... i need someone to help me regarding the latest dumps and how do i get the shipping option ... i want the certificate to be delivered by post.. cant find the option...not to mention the questionable ethics of using a braindump on an exam. In the late 90s/early 00s, braindump + MCSE = ticket to instant $60,000+/year salary in some places. However, after about a week or so, many of these people didn't know what they were doing on the job and got canned. Doing that so much devalued the MCSE certification in today's market. The MCSE has become more of a risk when hiring new employees than a symbol of expertise. To some degree, that punishes legitimate MCSEs who actually know what the heck they're doing. One of the reasons the NT6.x certifications have been restructured so much was because of the decreased value in the MCSE name. There is no "MCSE" certification for Server 2008 or Server 2008 R2. The MCITP is the closest equivalent. However, the "MCITP" name is not nearly as well-known, and HR departments are more likely to ask "What's that?" than anything... Overall, the problem is the inherent flaws in the testing system, and changing the acronyms is not the solution. There are only 200-300 questions in the test pool for most exams, and they tend to get leaked to braindump sites. Microsoft doesn't want to spend the additional resources updating the test questions once a month, so anyone with a photographic memory can become a "Systems Engineer" or "Systems Administrator." I heard that Cisco does a much better job updating their pool of test questions... |

Solve : Serious YouTube problem...? |
Answer» This has been occurring for the past few months... 1. I am always using internet explorer to do the uploading (regardless of what other browser I may be using for regular use). Also, the videos I upload are in either AVI or MP4 format, I don't know if youtube handles those formats better than WMV but you could give it a shot. Try it out, if still having problems, then we'll GO from there on... Bump. Good point. I use Google Chrome. Maybe IE will solve my problems. I'll try tomorrow. But I haven't used the Bulk Upload plugin to upload anything YET. All my videos are in AVI format, as well. Not too many MP4s. Thanks for the tips!Hope it works for you, I have done it the same way like I told you yesterday, and have uploaded couple more videos without any issue. I also see that on the main youtube page, you can try to also upload straight from the main upload page without the progress bar. Awesome, thanks again |

Solve : Does SEO (Search Engine Optimization) Have Future?? |
Answer» Today there are SEO promotion and consulting services for small businesses. They hire people with knowledge in search engine optimization and some time ago SEO wasn't even known. Is SEO recognzed as a regular daily job in Ministry Of Labor? What country are you referring to? Do you mean a job dealing with SEO working DIRECTLY for a Ministry Of Labor to work on SEO for government websites or do you mean some type of government sponsored job referral service for jobs in PRIVATE industry? I THINK it's unlikely a government agency WOULD have much interest in SEO for their website, but I could be WRONG. |

Solve : Taxact.com? |
Answer» I just recently got married but I have to file single this year, I just need to file the EZ single Federal tax form.... can anyone tell me a site that is honest and or trust worthy to file from? Is Taxact, com trustworthy?http://www.irs.gov/efile/index.htmlThanks again Allen......Your AWSOME!Yes. Yes I am Taxact.com is just as trustworthy as turbotax.com and the IRS site. I've USED it the past 3 YEARS and have had no problems. Of coarse it's very misleading, because they advertise as the Federal PART being free, but then they ask if you would like to do your state too, and they wait till the very end to tell you it costs $14.95 for state. They also charge you another $14 or $15 to have the refund DIRECT deposited into your account. (That is unless you're paying in.) So after going from "free", to $30, it's still a good way to file online. |

Solve : E4 Error Code? |
Answer» What does check for forced flash mean?I'm guessing it means you should check for a bios update. Thanks, Allan, but the computer FREEZES at the company logo and will not enter BIOS setup. Something is wrong with BIOS, did you attempt a flash and it failed?I am trying to help a friend running Vista and having the E4 code. Can I flash the BIOS with the frozen POST?Quote from: sunnet on February 02, 2010, 02:00:31 PM I am trying to help a friend running Vista and having the E4 code. Can I flash the BIOS with the frozen POST?Probably not, since it won't POST. It would have to BOOT a floppy disk or CD. Did your friend trash the BIOS during a flash? He tried to get help before coming to me, maybe one of those helpers tried a flash. Does this mean his only HOPE is a new Board and CPU?Quote from: sunnet on February 02, 2010, 02:40:47 PM He tried to get help before coming to me, maybe one of those helpers tried a flash. Does this mean his only hope is a new Board and CPU?I assume it's a desktop and not a laptop? CPU is still good, flash CHIPS can be replaced if not soldered to the motherboard. Might be easier to replace the motherboard, if you can find one compatible with the CPU & RAM.You can also try unplugging the machine and removing the CMOS battery for 10 minutes... This won't fix a bad flash but perhaps the BIOS defaults are still there. |

Solve : Slow browsing from some sites? |
Answer» My computer gets 6M DOWNLOAD and .8M upload from dsl. Most sites I visit come right up. However, some sites take FOREVER or don't come up at all. For example, right now I'm attempting to go to Dell's drivers download page and it won't come up. Is this because there are too MANY people trying to access Dell's servers? I have the same problem going to redbox.com. Tried a different browser / what are you using / when did it start happening? I'm using msn. I didn't think of trying a different browser. I do have firefox installed, just never use it. I'll try it now.Just make sure to update it ASAP. An old browser is just asking for a virus infection. |

Answer» HELLO, I am newbie here can you TELL me how could i get the trust of the forum? Can i add some links in the post? could i add a link to the signature? what need i do, the forum will not ban me? ......As stated in your other post, you can add links, as long as they are related to the topic at hand. Meaning, don't just jump into a random THREAD about video card issues, and post a link to your favorite online casino website. You can have links in your sig as well. Just nothing inappropriate. You gain the trust of the forum by simply following the rules, being polite, and helping OTHERS when they need help. I've already seen (and corrected) one of your "HELPFUL" posts. I'd suggest that if you want to "gain confidence" on a support forum that you first make sure the information you provide is correct.and you do not double post the same topic within days or ever as you did hereTry Reading The Forum Rules - This will keep you safe from banning |

Solve : VHS to computer to DVD? |
Answer» I have none COPY write VHS tapes I want to burn to DVD. Is it possible to connect a VHS recorder to a computer? or can anyone point me in the direction of someone who knows? I'm assuming when you said VHS recorder, you mean VCR. Actually, the term VCR refers to several TYPES of video cassette recorders. Once upon a time there was Beta, which died a SLOW death. 3/4" VCR's have been around for a long time, first as analog then most were converted to digital. Plus, there are several subcategories like mini, etc.Quote from: rthompson80819 on December 18, 2009, 04:54:00 PM Actually, the term VCR refers to several types of video cassette recorders. VCR, isn't that the common term or what do you call it? Quote VCR, isn't that the common term or what do you call it? VCR (Video Cassette Recorder) is just a generic term that covers several types of video recorders. VHS is by far the most common type of VCR and most people refer to them as just VCR's even though technically they are VHS VCR'sQuote from: rthompson80819 on December 18, 2009, 05:27:05 PM VCR (Video Cassette Recorder) is just a generic term that covers several types of video recorders.
