On my monitor...I can move the mouse all the way to the left and top...and it is still visible.

When I move it to the right...it is just BARELY visible...while moving it to the bottom...it disappears completely.

I use Windows XP Home...and my resolution is SET to 1024 X 768.Yeah. When you move the cursor all the way to the top/left, you can still see it but it gets 'hidden' when you move it all the way down/right the screen.It does the same thing...no MATTER what resolution you set it to.

I did a little research, as well...and it just may, in fact, be the "cursor's curse". It does this in all versions of Windows...even if you shrink or stretch the monitor display using the buttons on your monitor.It's like this because, if the cursor hits the edge of your screen without hiding itself, you're missing like 15 pixels (depending on your resolution) because your mouse clicks at the point of your cursor.

A feature has been requested to add a bottom and top link to pages so it can be easier to navigate to where you want to go on the forum without too much scrolling.

So I've added a new (Bottom) and (Top) link to the right of the Pages: shown at the top of each of the board listings and posts in the default classic template as shown in the below example.

If I go to a thread, click bottom, click top, then use the browser back button, it goes to top, repeat back button and it goes to bottom, click back button again and finally goes to the CH index.

Seems like each top and bottom click registers a new page load on the browser stack, even though you're only navigating within the same page.

Yep, same here.This is how Internet browsers handle anchor links. I'm not familiar with a way to get an anchor link to be ignored and the browser to back to the previous page instead of the previous anchor. All pages with ANCHORS will do the same thing when hitting the back arrow.

Go to the top or bottom of a page with a single middle mouse button click.

Type about:config in the address bar and hit enter.

In the FILTER list of the about:config WINDOW enter the following:

middlemouse.scrollbarPosition

Right click the entry that comes up in the window and click toggle to change the value to true

Restart Firefox. Then middle click anywhere in the scroll bar area and the page/scrollbar instantly jumps to where you click. Top, bottom, middle or anywhere you desire.

I have tried to send an email (text only, no attachments etc) to a KNOWN address. On each OCCASION it is bounced back, each time with a different ATT data file attached - ATT00007.dat, ATT00035.dat, ATT00043.dat & ATT00061.dat. The same happened when I send a shorter test message, the data file being ATT00092.dat. Sending the email to ANOTHER address succeeds.

Must I presume that there is SOMETHING wrong with the recipients address and that the different ATT numbers simply indicate the order in which they were issued rather than an indication of the error?

a Failed 5.2.2 USUALLY means that the recipients mailbox is full or that the email being sent to them is too large. Since it's a small message with no attachment being sent to them I must assume that their mailbox is full. That is most likely the answer.Your Majesty,

I'm looking for some new speakers, NEEDS to be a 2.1 setup.
I currently have the Logitech X-230 speakers, which I'm fairly happy with.
However I'd ideally like some more bass.
They need to be fairly inexpensive, better than my current speakers, and not too big either.
I don't know if any sets match my criteria, but it's worth looking.

I'm thinking £50 MAX, ideally less. It may well not be realistic, but these speakers sound great considering they were £20 a few years ago.Try checking craigslist or garage sales for stereo systems if size isn't a factor. You might be able to find a stereo for $5 at one sale and big speakers for $20 at another sale. (That's how I did it) These are for my computer, not my stereo. Although I am going to a car boot sale on Sunday to sell some unwanted stuff, might find something there.
Size is a factor unfortunately, I have a cramped room as it is and big speakers will leave me with nowhere to sit/stand/walk.I bought an AWESOME pair of JBL speakers years ago with a nice subwoofer for $50. Excellent bass and sound. My brother has them now though, since I have a 5.1 setup on my computer with a set of Creative speakers.

None of the avatars here at CH are showing for me.
When I load a page they are shown briefly but disappear when the page has finished loading.
I have tried another SMF forum and have no ISSUES there, nor any other computer issues.
Happens to me in both IE7 and Firefox 2 exactly the same.
I've cleared my caches and also rebooted but neither has shown a change.
Anyone else having issues?

If so, then try this:
Go to your Profile
Click (on the left toolbar) "Look and Layout Preferences"
Make sure "Don't show users' avatars." is not selected. Click "Change Profile" if you change anything.

If its already not selected, then try selecting it, click "Change Profile", and then unselect it, and click "Change Profile" again.

I have had problems with Avatars not fully loading on CH, but, never ones that just dont show up. All is well on my end. Have tried logging in and out before, and also changing the avatar setting, saving, and cahnging it back.
Browser caches have been cleared too.
Still suffering.Okay, next, you need to determine if its a problem with your account, or a problem with your computer.

I recently was being "smart alec" and thought I would delete duplicate pictures on my computer. Turns out I deleted a bunch of stuff my picture software (creative memories memory manager) needed in order to view the pictures properly. When you open the software you can see all my pictures (thumbnail view) but when you click on them to see the full size picture all you see is a blocky picture which is nothing more than the thumbnail blown up. Can you have deleted the fullsize picture but have kept the thumbnail? I was able to retrieve some of pictures using a software program called "Digital Photo Recovery" but not all of them. Just wondering if this is now a LOST cause or what!! Yes. Depending upon how your THUMBNAILS were created you can most certainly delete the fullsize image while maintaining the thumbnail image. Often a program that creates thumbnails will copy the image and resize it to generate the thumbnail.

Unfortunately UNLESS you've got them backed up if the image recovery program you've used to attempt to recover the images cannot recover certain images it's likely that they've been overwritten.

Over time files that are marked as deleted on your HARD DRIVE will be overwritten by new data, making it impossible to recover the data that was overwritten.

I have a problem with my documents and settings. When I look inside the folder I scroll over my name and I see 1.7 Gigabytes. Then when I look inside the math just doesn't seem to ADD up. Most of the files in there are 5MB or Less and there aren't many files in there.What Operating SYSTEM?

IWBIn general there are several possible causes:

- the picture/image no longer exists at the URL originally linked to it

- the link is broken, corrupted or changed by the CURRENT viewer APPLICATION

- built-in filtering (firewall, isp, URL host, etc.) is blocking the image

- no internet access when trying to download/view

in addition, there are several ways (scripts, etc.) to intentionally block/prevent an image from being viewed/downloaded

Right now she has 3 programs of windows xp RUNNING simultanously. How do you wipe the hard drive clean on f disk. Chris RuonaBoot to the xp disk in the cdrom, your friend KNOWS how to do it.
After that xp will LET you do all the fdisking (partion management) you want.And keep in mind you are going to lose all the data on that HDD leaving you with a clean new XP install...

Let them both fix what they find.
Then update them regularly and run them about once a week.

I have a Dell XPS pentium 4 w/HT 2MB cache and 1 gig of ram. I'm running Windows XP Home edition with Nortorn Security with AntiSpyware edition. My computer loads ok and my desktop looks find. I select my desktop icons and nothing happens. About 3-5 minutes later, all the programs will start running. This really bugs me. I know when I select the Icons on my desktop, it will start the programs minutes later. What's up with this? Why the slow reaction time?
Try doing some general housekeeping first such as Disk CLEANUP from My Computer and DEFRAG from Start/Accessories /system tools...
When done with that Update your virus definitions thru Norton's and run a full system scan...
Re-boot and SEE if things are any better, if not we'll need more info...

Any spelling mistakes,may be due unable to edit/post.....ok..Remove Norton.I have been using DiskDefrag and it does't solve the problem. I know Norton has issues. My settings are possibly causing the slow reaction.
I can remove Norton, but it's to important not to have a
antivirus protection these days.
MAYBE Nortons firewall and virus protection settings need to be tweeked. I am sure Norton is doing its job,

I have a dell laptop with xp Pro.

I had to have a new hard drive put in it and now after getting it back. I can't get on the wireless internet.

In the wireless network configuration area, I am getting a full signal STRENGTH from the router and I am getting packets sent but none on the received side.

I'm having a problem with my computer. It will only play music CDs and movies - no windows action sounds, no sounds from browsers.

I'm running windows XP home edition, with desktop stereo speakers. They USED to work fine, though after we recently moved, we connected the computer to a stereo (with no problems with sounds) till the stereo broke down, and have only just reconnected the small desktop speakers to find this problem.

I have checked all the sounds and audio devices settings and cannot see anything out of the ordinary.

Help MUCH appreciated, as my 2yo daughter cannot play her interactive online games and CDs.

Thanks.Suggest you recheck your 'Sounds and Multimedia' Properties in your control panel. Make sure all the sounds are listed that you want and that they are active.

Next, check your audio hardware in your system's 'Device Manager.' Make sure your sound card/device is active without any question MARKS.

Also, check your volume control properties to make sure you don't have your PC sounds muted.

Volume control was the first thing I checked, it's not muted.

In my control panel, there is no 'Sounds and multimedia' properties, only 'Sounds and audio devices', which I checked before.

Where is the device manager? Didn't see that option in my Control Panel. I'm in Malaysia, if that makes any difference... would there be different software versions to be so different?

The thing is, I can play music CDs (or music copied to my hard disc) but when I try an interactive CD, there is no sound at all. And even when the Sound Scheme is Windows Default, I cannot hear any of the windows Program Events sounds, even when I SELECT and play one from the list in the Sounds Properties.

I cannot understand why it can play some sounds but not others., when we did not change any of the settings.

The Device Manager Tab is under Hardware in your System Properties. It will give you a quick look at any possible problem devices. In your case, Sound, video and game controllers. Do you see any question/exclamation marks there? If you do, it may be your problem.

To avoid guesswork, please tell us what PC model and any other related hardware you have attached. Also, tell us what you have running (software) when you encounter these problems.

Have you made any hardware or software changes recently?

Do you regularly scan for virus/malware?

For some reason, every time I start up Windows Media Player and then try to play a wave file, it says "Class not registered" I was just LISTENING to some music yesturday as well. To which folder did you DOWNLOAD dsound.dll??? In the version of XP I am running it is in C:\Windows\System32\

You will probably be able to find most .dll files duplicated in various folders - run a Search on your PC if you need any others. When you post a query please always include the OS you are using as the bare minimum of information tho' more would be appreciated, in this CASE what version of WMP you are running.

I've DOWNLOADED Ricky Gervais's (the guy from the office) new radio SHOW as a podcast and have been able to listen to it on my PC but am unable to find the file so that I can save it.
It downloads and then plays through a quick time window.

The error message:
The instruction at 0x2223526d referenced memory at 0x0d5c61b0. The memory could not be "read". This happens when I try to play any games that I've tried (CounterStrike, Day of Defeat, Half Life2). My other programs work fine.


SYSTEM Info:
Windows XP, Athlon XP2400, 2 sticks of 512MB RAM, 80GB Hard drive, VisionTex Radeon 9550 video card. No viruses (did a scan). I tested the memory and no errors reported.


Other info:
The hard drive is new, and so I had to reinstall the video driver. I'm thinking it might be a video driver issue because I never had these problems with my old hard drive. I downloaded the most recent driver from ATI and I got the error message above. So I uninstalled the driver in Safe Mode. Then I downloaded the driver from the VisionTek site, and I got the same error message again.

I hope I haven't missed anything. If I have please let me know and thanks again if you can help.Try it with only one stick of RAM, then the other, swapping slots too.

Well it wasn't the memory and there sure are a lot of others out there with similar problems. And in all of those discussions it doesn't look like anyone really has the answer. But I did get it WORKING. I just reformatted and reinstalled the OS. No more errors. Maybe my system didn't like the new drive or something.

Anyway I just wanted to let you know the problem was solved. Thank you for taking the time to answer.

First you would need to script your browser to navigate to the PAGE, then using the page source as a GUIDE, script the objects (links, buttons, ETC) on the page to do whatever you need to do to delete the items. The downside of this method is if Yahoo changes the page, you might have to change your script.

The Empty link you're referring to in Yahoo mail runs a javascript (EmptyFolder) and passes a parameter. ie: the Bulk folder name is passed as '@[emailprotected]' If you could get that same javascript to run and pass it the name of your folder, it just might work.

Can ANYONE tell me how to fix the problem of when going to a link from a web site, the link opens in a small 3 by 4 window. I have to click the maximize button to see full screen. How do I fix this problem? Please e-mail me an ANSWER if you know. It could be written into the code of the website to do that so you can see the screen you were on originally. Some links use the page you were on and some open a new window.

When you open your web browser INITIALLY does it open full screen?
Try opening a link, expanding it and then RIGHT clicking on the window and select refresh. Close it again and try opening the same link again.

Well, it finally occurred to me that my domain NAME was 'legally' stolen, since the renewal notice they SENT me went to an email account that I had closed. My fault, I guess. So I missed getting to renew my domain name and someone scarfed it up. NOW if I would like to have it back, I have to pay a minimum of $888!! I only paid about $5 to begin with!!!
MY QUESTION IS......what is the best way to go about getting my domain name back without paying that outrageous price? How can I be perched and ready to pounce, just like they were, to buy this back when it expires again?

1. Pay the outragous ransom.
2. Wait until that domain expires (hoping no one else buys it) and then buy it.
3. Get a different domain.

Because it expired it's no longer your domain and 100% all in the hands of the new owner.Contact the people or persons concerned,in selling the domain to you:Read the distant contract.

And you need to connect to a DHCP server or put in an address as a static address. Unless you're running DHCP on a computer at home then you need the internet for an address.

Oh and btw, if you are running DHCP at home for some reason, don't USE it on the internet, your ISP won't like that very much.Quote

umm 2 days agin i restarted my computer caouse iw as leaving when i got back i tryed to turn my computer on it loaded to were everthing is alright on my computer when it was almost dun loading it restarted i dont now what i did so i went to SAFE mode i unistalled all my games and almost everything and STILL i try to go normal mode but it KEEPS on restarting how do i fix it plzzzzzzz help me Do you have a virus scanner? Is it updated and virus free? Do you have a registry cleaner? To scan for errors?

Safemode doesnt restart on its own? That means a possible virus or a window file must of gone screwy.

In Control Panel/System/Advanced/Startup and Recovery uncheck re-boot on errors.
This will stop it from restarting on errors and hopefully generate some error messages that will help us narrow down the culprit.

Reviews on a case that I am going to buy say that the case has weak 120mm fans. What would be the CONSEQUENCES of just removing one side panel and blowing air into the computer with just an old fashion (non-computer) fan?You POSTED this elsewhere already. If that is the solution, and you haven't even got it, you need to just get a well designed case and avoid this, whatever it is.

You could try this solution, or create some ducting directly from the air conditioning vent, but a wiser purchase seems soooooo obvious. What is it, a real cool style, but not cool in temps?Fans smans. Ive tried lots of ways for extra cooling. I read that when you don't have a side you get hot spots on the board but I don't really buy that and have had very little TROUBLE. I alway pull the side of the the PC so its easy to work on.
I little table fan works good. For a super cheap and quiet fan Ive used a bathroom ceiling vent fan with some FLEX tubing . I have also tore out old PS fans and hung them with wire so they blew on the video card or what ever.

Well, I looked online, and I FOUND out that this will not be the last Microsoft Anit-Spyware version! They will be providing us with a data refresh by December 31 2005. So don't worry about switching just yet!

At bootup I get a message like "We apologise for the inconvenience etc..." and the following options are available:

"Start Windows NORMALLY" "TRY Last Known Good Configuration" "Safe Mode" etc

No matter which OPTION is SELECTED the system locks up. What should i do?
