Solve : Just wondering if you all could help?

Answer»

My FRIENDS computer was not working and they called a guy from geeks on call. He said it was the motherboard so he changed it and it still doesnt WORK. When you turn the computer on it runs for about 30-45 seconds then it just shuts off. And when you try to turn it on sometimes it will give four BEEPS before it runs and shuts off. Its an intel board so i know the beeps mean its either the timer or its not getting the first 64KB of memory to load. I dont no what the problem is. Any of you have an idea of what it could be.Any INFO on what components we're working with here ? ?Also, count beeps.I did count the beeps. I got it fixed thank you. BTW it was a short in her tower. Thanks for posting back.

Solve : Missling dll file?

Answer» HI everyone:I have come to this site quite by accident, but I thought that I would give it a shot.I don't know what happened, but I had to un-install and reinstall a new Hewlett Packard printer, after completion of installation I got a message stating that I am missing a arcCon.dll. I don't know what it is, but I do know that it STATED that if I could reinstall the application that it could probably fix the problem. Unfortunately, I don't know what that program is so I don't know what to reinstall.I have DONE numerous restores using different dates, but it has not helped my situation.Maybe you can give me some idea of what the application is that it wants reinstalled? The heading of the complete message that I received was:ArcCon.ac. unable to locate component. The application has failed to start because ARcCon.dll could not be found.Re-installing the application may fix this problem.Your HELP would be greatly appreciated.Thank you,Marvin516The only listing i could find for it suggests it may be malware according to PrevX...

Solve : What's your internet connection??

Answer»

What do you usually use to connect to the internet? I realize many people might have different connections, but pick the one you use the most often.Hmmm, anybody out there actually using ISDN? I gave that serious consideration years ago before either cable or DSL became available here. Even bought an ISDN modem on ebay. Shortly after, DSL became available. I switched from dialup to DSL and never used that ISDN modem. ISDN was QUITE expensive, as I RECALL, and only about 2 to 2 1/2 times faster than dialup.ISDN..........................BetaMax
ADSL..........................VCR.

I got me a 20Mb Cable connection... 'Tis awesome lol.I've got ADSL 2.5Mb down/512Kb up. Not the fastest available, but it serves my needs.DSL, 2Mb down, 256k up.
Would switch to a 24Mb down, 2Mb up, but it takes 3 weeks, during which time I would only have dial up internet access.
As it is, 2Mb is usually sufficient.I don't see Telepathy in the choice list...Quote from: PATIO on December 15, 2007, 11:38:45 AM

I don't see Telepathy in the choice list...

Well, in that case you should choose WiMAX or other wireless... or just other. I have a super fast 400 kbps BROADBAND connection

I use the FiOS fiber optic service.

Haha I knew I should of put fiber optic in. I nearly added it to the list then thought "Nah"I used to have cable from Adelphia. Their service was so unreliable it seemed the internet was out more that it was on. It was pretty fast though. A few years ago I switched to Verizon DSL. Verizon has been a lot more reliable than Adelphia ever was. Though I do miss the upload/download rate that cable has.Comcast Cable here. We're getting Fiber in my area in March. So hopefully we'll switch to that when it's available.

Solve : changing speaker set up?

Answer»

I want to change the microphone hook up to output audio instead of inputing audio. Basically I want to plug in speakers to the port and have audio come out. Is it possible? if so how? please email me with answers as I have limited internet access.Only if it's supported by the sound card.

For example, my card changes its jacks depending on what I have my speaker settings at. There are 4 jacks:

2/2.1 or headphones - speaker out, line in, line out, mic
5.1 - front, rear, sub and CENTER, mic
7.1 - front, mid, rear, sub and center

Your card must be designed to do this. Check the documentation or manufacturer's website for your card. You didn't specify what the card is, so there's no way I could tell you.how do I find out what kind of sound card I have?Quote from: northidahofisher on December 17, 2007, 11:19:38 AM

how do I find out what kind of sound card I have?

START > CONTROL PANEL > SOUNDS AND AUDIO DEVICES > it should be right on the top of the page under the "volume" tab. if not, SELECT the "audio" tab, then in "sound playback" LOOK under "default DEVICE", it should be there.

Solve : Resources Problem?

Answer»

I still run Win98SE and recently I have been getting a "FAILURE TO LOAD RESOURCES.PLEASE CHECK YOUR SETUP" MESSAGE.
This has happened when I downloaded the File Hippo Updater and tried to run it.

Oddly enough, this programme worked perfectly previously.

I had to REFORMAT and re-install and since then this crappy problem has come up.
I tried INSTALLING Dot Net and un-installing it,to no avail.

What has gone wrong?

Tell it to me straight Doc.
I can take it.

CromIt looks to me like application problem. Does it happen with Filehippo Updater only?try running filehippo updater in safe mode. it maybe not able to connect to filehippo (internet site) because internet is not available thru the safe mode but if the updater run ok then it's something more....Many thanks for your reply.

This problem aiso occurred when I attempted to instal a programme for Winamp Codex.

Before I installed dot net, I first recieved Parsing error"Error parsing windows\system\config\machine config
Parser returned error0x80070003"
The Failure to load ETC message is behind this one.

When I installed dot net,the first message sodded off,and only the failure one appeared.

I checked Windows systems and the config file is not there

The only config file is in Windows and is a general config and seems to be obsessed with midi players.

I hope this information has not just muddied the waters even worse, but,APART from that,I know nuzzing.

Thanks in advance,

CromIf you have any version of .NET Framework installed, try to uninstall it, and install a fresh copy.

Solve : Precautions for safe transport of PC?

Answer»

Hi, I am relocating from one country to another. I would like to ship my desktop via air freight along with my some other personal belongings. Can I have expert advise on what all precautions to be taken to get my PC in the same condition on the other end?
Thanks.Well there are man things you should consider. I'd feel more safe just putting my computer in a car, and drive it to my destination.

DO you still have the boxes, and styrofoam that came with your computer if you still have it just use that.
It'ld be great protection for your computer, and it should be fine.

However if you don't have that. Buy your standard like Blanket and some styrofom or WOOD. FIRST wrap your computer with a SOFT blanket, and then use some wood or sytrofoam to fill up the box. The more your can put around your computer the better.

I reccomend styrofoam though.QUOTE from: aziangamer on December 19, 2007, 02:12:05 PM

...

...

You've reminded of something that I've seen done. I suppose it was done because the orginial custom fitted styrofoam was long gone.

Use canned expanding foam.
The trick: Squirt it into a plastic bag.

Obviously, you wouldn't want to spray it on whatever you are trying to cushion, - you'd have one HECK of a mess.

Squirting it into a plastic bag worked perfectly when I saw it done!
The bag contained the expanding foam. The bag is flexible, so it allowed the foam to create a perfectly fitting cushion. Fitted around corners, etc.
Fits to any shape, which made it better than other packing materials.

The cost is not prohibitive.

One other thing you might want to consider is that the country you are relocating to may have different power types. (Voltages in your standard outlet vary from country to country)
Always check this before you go about plugging it in, and never modify an electrical plug.

WillyW, I have never heard of a better idea in my life, nor would I have ever thought of that. I must say, you have quite the creative mind

And yet another things to consider:
Once you have figured out all your cushioning, wrap the computer in a large bag that can be sealed. In the event that water reaches your computer, this will help to protect it. (Even if its in a box, RAIN while its being transportated into the airport might become a problem (I wouldent trust them with getting it in to the airport as fast as possible...)Quote from: Zylstra on December 19, 2007, 05:37:31 PM

...

Nope.
Just sharing something I saw somebody else do. I wish I had a creative mind.

Forgot to add: Be sure not to use el-cheepo bags. Just think of the mess if one breaks!

Because of the static involved a blanket is probably the worst suggestion...Quote from: patio on December 19, 2007, 08:21:19 PM
Because of the static involved a blanket is probably the worst suggestion...

only if the blanket is placed inside the computer and gets moved around quite a bit. any static that builds up on or around the case will be quickly dissipated once the computer gets plugged in.

Just finished building my first comp, I have pretty good computer knowledge... but cant figure this one out.

I startup for the first time, and the fans all spin and bios boots up, I've successfully built a living comp right? NO WAY, within 1 minute the case goes dark and the fans stop and the comp dies. I try to boot a COUPLE more times and the comp SHUTS down sooner each time.

Sound like a CPU overheating, but it couldn't that quickly right? Only other thought is that there ISNT ENOUGH power, but im not running that much gear.

Ideas Anyone!??

Solve : Can't send .doc attachment in e-mail?

Answer»

I found out that when I use my work e-mail's webmail on my computer to send a .DOC attachment, the recipient would not be ABLE to open that *.doc file. There'll be an error message COMING up on Microsoft Word saying: THE DOCUMENT NAME OR PATH IS NOT VALID.

This only happens on my computer - when I use other computers I can send .DOC attachment using the same webmail INTERFACE with no problem.

On my computer, I am able to use my work e-mail's webmail to send attachment in any format (JPG, PDF, XLS, etc...). This problem only happens on .DOC file. I can even send an .RTF file (created from the very same .DOC file on my computer that became UNOPENABLE after sending through webmail) and the recipient can open it with no problem.

I tried using my work e-mail to send .DOC attachment to my other e-mail accounts, and when I open it from my computer there's still the error message coming up on Microsoft Word.

When I tried using my other e-mail accounts (e.g. Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail etc.) to send .DOC attachments there is no problem at all too. I am also able to send .DOC attachment on my work e-mail using POP3 on Thunderbird.

So this problem only occurs when I use my computer to send .DOC attachment using my work e-mail account's webmail.

This is very weird, I already asked my webmaster but they have no idea how to fix this.

Is there anyone who heard of something similar who would be able to help? THANKS very much in advance. This isn't a direct solution but may be an indirect solution. Since you have the POP3 option, why not use POP3 instead of webmail?Where is the .doc file located ? ?
It has to be on the machine you are sending it as an attachment in order for this to work without a pickaxe and shovel...Yeah, maybe I'd better switch to POP3 too... But still think it's very weird there is this problem happening.

The .doc files are on my hard drive. As said, I can send them fine on any other webmail accounts and on POP3, there only seems to be a problem when I use this one particular account's webmail. And this also only happens on .doc files - not any other file type (even .rtf or .docx work fine too).

Solve : Any way to make net faster??

Answer»

Any way to make your internet speed faster, other than buying a new ISP? I am not 100% sure how this service works, but, it is TRUSTED.
http://www.dslreports.com/tweaks

It has information and tools about how to adjust your TCIP settings to get them optimized to your connection.

Windows Vista is already as optimized as it can get in this department, if you happen to be RUNNING it, you may be out of luck.

Also, USING tools like AdBlockPlus in FIREFOX may help with speed issues, as ads often take a longer amount of time to open. Yea that site says im pretty MUCH out of luck as well.

Solve : Laptop...what to buy??

Answer»

Hi, I just joined this forum and was wondering if I could maybe get some recommendations.

I am looking to buy a laptop. Here is a list of what I'm looking for

13" screen
Intel Core 2 duo w/ 4MB cache
2 GB or more of ram
160 GB harddrive

Well those are the basics. I'm looking at either a Dell (maybe XPS) a Sony or Toshiba (I believe these to be the best brands...) oh, and I'm looking for the cheapest system I can get, college student, so if you know of a GOOD website or something...

If anyone knows of a system that meets these specifications or could recommend anything to me, that would be great!

Thanks
Natecheck out this badboy. ------> Asus EEE

Quote

I'm looking for the cheapest system I can get

quite honestly, you will not find a very cheap laptop with the specs that you are looking for. the cheapest i could find is the Acer 5720-6279 for about $900, the rest are $1000+.The Asus EEEPC is definitely a great laptop.
Whilst it doesn't have the raw power you're looking for, it's more than capable of basic office tasks, taking notes, creating presentations, etc.
It doesn't LOOK like you need that much power anyhow - as you didn't specify a graphics card, I assume you're not a gamer.
And you can always replace the Xandros OS with Windows or another flavour of Linux if you don't like what's supplied.I got the EeePC 8G. I'm thinking I might ditch Xandros and go with an XP/Fedora dual boot like my desktop. I use an external 250GB hard drive with it which is used for all my programs and files and an external DVD burner. Having the external drives is fantastic for me, since I don't always need the drives and don't have to carry them around with me constantly. The 7" screen and the keyboard take a little getting used to.

My GIRLFRIEND has a Toshiba Libretto U100. It's similar in size and power to the EeePC, but costs 4 times as much (there are reasons why I won't go into). Not sure they even sell them anymore. My first laptop was a Toshiba and I still think Toshiba is one of the best makes out there.

I've never had a Sony, and I HEAR good and bad things about them. Out of laptops I have serviced, Sony probably comes around more often.

Asus makes some decent laptops other than the EeePC. They're a good company that's been around for nearly 20 years now. Most of their laptops come with a 2 - 3 year warranty, depending on what country you live in.

I'd put Acer, Compaq (now owned by HP) and Dell laptops as equals. They're decent systems for the money, but remember, sometimes you get what you paid for.

HP still makes their own line of HP laptops. The ones I have SEEN are quite sturdy and well made.

Solve : Buying my first PDA - please help?

Answer»

Hi, I came here to get some input....I have a brand new laptop with MS Vista and I have MS office 2007 with Outlook. I need a hand held device that will allow me to sync my outlook appointments/calendar so I have it with me on the go. I would love to get a phone that does that for me, but I just got a new verizon chocolate phone a few months ago. (and wouldn't there be an additional charge because those soft phones and blackberry's use the web?)

I don't NEED to be able to check email on go online with my hand held. If it is not much difference in cost, I may invest in it, but I don't want any monthly charges (like internet or roaming).

I am really new to this and from what I can tell the Palm brand USES an OS that may not be compatible with MS outlook..is that RIGHT?

I am really looking for your experiences and which devices you feel are the best yet reasonably priced. Thank you for your help.Good evening,
You are going to have a difficult time finding a phone that wont charge you monthly with internet that works anywhere there is reception from a cell tower, and roaming, but, if you have a DSL/Cable/Fiber connection in your home, and a wireless router, you will be able to connect to it (depending on the PDA, that is)

PalmOS (from Palm) is a great OS, but might not be 100% compatible with Outlook Calendar and Email. I had a teacher who owned a PalmOS device, and it was able to sync to her Outlook program fine, as well as transfer files flawlessly. Make sure any PalmOS (or any device) is ActiveSync compatible.

Why dont you take a look at this site:
http://www.newegg.com/Store/Category.aspx?Category=30&name=PDAs-Accessories
and see if you find anything you like

Feel free to post some of the things you are interested in (but dont expect replies of definite answers, as we can only work off the INFORMATION the LINKS provide) It depends on what you want. If you want more of a 'mac'-like clean interface with minimal multimedia, then the palm tungsten e2 is the way to go. If you want all kinds of video and music, but are willing to put up with yet another windows OS (trust me, I'm fed up with the WinGUI, it SUX), then a pocketPC may be better. But PPCs will cost ALOT more than palms. Palms are $100,200,and 300 (e2 is 200) whereas PPCs are $400+.Quote from: linuxlover on December 21, 2007, 07:37:44 PM

I wouldn't go as far as calling the PamlOS a "Mac-Like" interface, nor would I go as far as calling it clean.
I do think that the PalmOS is as capable of running multimedia as the Windows, you might be doing a bit of program searching...

I think you will find that for the most part, there is an equivelency rate with the PalmOS and the Windows Mobile OS, being that the PalmOS costs less since it runs more minimal, but if you want to start doing more stuff with it, you will need more The HP iPAQs are really nice. I've got a non-phone model. I can usually use it for 2-3 days without recharging and it gets quite a bit of use in that time. It gets used for the same things you're talking about (appointments and stuff) as well as listening to MP3s, watching movies when I get some free time, and a little bit of gaming. I use it to check mail at wi-fi hotspots as well. Works flawlessly with Outlook since it's running Windows Mobile.

I've never had a phone PDA, but I've known people with them and most of them seem like they can get a half day of constant use before needing to recharge. Having a phone as well really drains the battery.

Hello, I have a very slow dial up connection. Sometimes I can see on my connection that information is being exchanged from my computer through the internet, yet I am not aware of what program is using the connection. Is there a way of finding out what program is using that connection?Your firewall should tell you.If your firewall doesn't tell you a free EXAMPLE of one that does is: Online Armor

Just make sure if you already have a firewall protection installed on the computer that it is either disabled when this or another program is in use and/or that it is uninstalled. Having two running firewalls on a computer causes havoc.Hello, I was using windows firewall and it did no let me know. I installed "Online Armour" and it works! I have so little bandwith so I need to know what is hogging it. Also, If something funny is going on now I can see whats connected. Thanks Windows Firewall does not MONITOR outbound traffic so it was useless in this SCENARIO...
Glad you're FIXED up.Thanks for the update and I'm glad that WORKED for ya.

Solve : autonomic computing?

Answer»

hi...

i am mca student and want to give a seminnar on AUTONOMIC computing

can anyone clear the exact diffrence between autonomic computing and ARTIFICIAL inteligence...

and i also want material for seminnar.... i read frm the site of ibm but want some easy to understand material so if some one give me guidlines for this seminnar so plz...The easiest way I could think to describe these two subjects is as follows. Autonomic computing is any system that is capable of managing itself, e.g. self configuration, self TROUBLESHOOTING, etc. Often autonomic computing is pre-programmed problems and setup that can be programmed into the software. A.I. on the other hand is a lot more complex and must be programmed to work out a lot more complicated issues that are not as PREDICTABLE.

The ARTICLES on these two subjects on Wikipedia seemed fairly easy to read and understand may want to check them out.

Solve : Pc will not turn on, help!!?

Answer»

Hi everyone,

i recently bought a fujitsu stylus 3400 (old i know) off of EBAY to use as a library for my ebooks for uni.
I have charged it and it will not turn on, all i get it a black screen and the fan starting and stopping. I tried to use an external screen with a better response time and it flickers like the machine wants to display something and then resets and is stuck in a loop. I have tried resetting and all SORTS, it will also not boot with the power supply connected.
It's hard to tell what's wrong because there's LITTLE information, it can't even get to the bios, so any help in the matter would be appreciated

Thanks in advance!!Is there any warranty that comes with your notebook?

Is there any warranty that comes with your notebook?

I think it might be the "bought notebook off of Ebay" warranty that starts with a Z and ends with an O.

Battery might be shagged out, perhaps?

I doubt it's the battery, it holds charge and i have the same problem when powered by cable.
Thanks for replies, keep 'em coming. It could be what we technical people call "broken". Unfortunately there are people around who use Ebay to sell junk to people.

Hope you didn't pay too much for it.

Hey, you are for real! You must be the only person in the world who does not know what Ebay is. Ebay is an online auction website where companies and private individuals buy and sell things. If you buy from a private individual you have no warranty at all, just like if you bought from a classified ad in a newspaper, or a guy you met in a bar.
I know ebay is an online auction site but that is all i know. Well, thanks for enlightening me! Although i sound stupid, hehe! BTW, just wanted to know, Dias means days right? how about verano?SUMMER. It's from the NAME of a song by Amaral. Dias de verano means "days of summer"

Primavera, verano, otoño, invierno.

Solve : Internet keeps coming in and out....?

Answer»

Good, but let's check for "bad guys"...

1. Run free online scan at: http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
The Housecall log is saved to C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\.housecall\log\
Post HouseCall log.

2. Download and scan with SUPERAntiSpyware Free for Home Users:
http://www.superantispyware.com/

Print these instructions out.

SUPERAntiSpyware should be run in Safe Mode.
To enter Safe Mode, restart computer, and keep tapping F8 key, until menu appears; pick Safe Mode; you'll see "Safe Mode" in all four corners of your screen

* Double-click SUPERAntiSpyware.exe and use the default settings for installation.
* An icon will be created on your desktop. Double-click that icon to launch the program.
* If asked to update the program definitions, click "Yes". If not, update the definitions before scanning by selecting "Check for Updates". (If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download and unzip them from here: http://www.superantispyware.com/definitions.html.)
* Under "Configuration and Preferences", click the Preferences button.
* Click the Scanning Control tab.
* Under Scanner Options make SURE the following are checked (leave all others unchecked):
o Close browsers before scanning.
o Scan for tracking cookies.
o Terminate memory threats before quarantining.
* Click the "Close" button to leave the control center screen.
* Back on the main screen, under "Scan for HARMFUL SOFTWARE" click Scan your computer.
* On the left, make sure you check C:\Fixed Drive.
* On the right, under "Complete Scan", choose Perform Complete Scan.
* Click "Next" to start the scan. Please be patient while it scans your computer.
* After the scan is complete, a Scan Summary box will appear with potentially harmful items that were detected. Click "OK".
* Make sure everything has a checkmark next to it and click "Next".
* A notification will appear that "Quarantine and Removal is Complete". Click "OK" and then click the "Finish" button to return to the main menu.
* If asked if you want to reboot, click "Yes".
* To retrieve the removal information after reboot, launch SUPERAntispyware again.
o Click Preferences, then click the Statistics/Logs tab.
o Under Scanner Logs, double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log.
o If there are SEVERAL logs, click the current dated log and press View log. A text file will open in your default text editor.
o Please copy and paste the Scan Log results in your next reply with a new HijackThis log.
* Click Close to exit the program.
Post SUPERAntiSpyware log.

3. Download HijackThis:
http://www.snapfiles.com/get/hijackthis.html
Post HijackThis log.I have been trying to do the housecall scan for the past 4 hours..... it finished scanning twice and when it was "Step 3:
Listing and removing detected infections and vulnerabilities"

it would freeze or GO idle.... and stop working at all.... and i havent gotten around to fdoing the rest of the stuff yet. I might try this housecall once more...Okay.... I got house call to work.... I had 1 adware and 3 cookies. I couldn't get the page to paste here. Leave it alone, for now.
Post two other logs.I ran superantispyware.

The infected files were quarantined and removed.... my computer seems to be working better. I will keep you posted though.Nah...I won't let you go until I see both logs (Super & HJT)Quote from: Broni on December 23, 2007, 09:49:49 PM

Solve : Limewire/Torrents Do Not Work?

Answer»

Limewire and Torrents worked on my computer for a long time, but all of a sudden it stopped working. Even though its on my allow list limewire simply refuses to connect to the network, and no matter what I do it can't seem to get it to work. Torrents work - slightly, but are incredibly slow.

When I turn off my Windows Firewall limewire still refuses to connect, and it's the same with the one other computer in my house, though I SWITCHED internet connections (for a different reason) and the problem remained. I suspect it may be the router, but I'm uncertain. Any help WOULD be appreciated.

*I of course do not condone the illegal exchange of copyrighted material.
Actually it may be your ISP...have you contacted them ? ?

ComCast for one has recently been sued for throttling down heavy DLoaders...Well, I used to use a different ISP though, and the problem has remained through both. (I use Verizon FiOS now.) I didn't think it would have been the ISP due to that, but I suppose it can't hurt to contact them. Quote

ComCast for one has recently been sued for throttling down heavy DLoaders...

HERE

Quote
Although Comcast advertises an unlimited cable-internet use policy, many heavy downloaders have run into an invisible cap, which triggers a call from Comcast's Security Department that FLAGS their account for excessive use. The second time this happens, you're booted altogether—under the reason of hampering connection quality for your neighbors. The number 300GB has been tossed around in forums lately as the cap Comcast uses, but it could be closer to about 90 to 150GB.

A spokesperson for the cable company said that excessive use qualifies as anybody who downloads "30,000 songs, 250,000 pictures, or 13 million EMAILS in a month." Since it's hard to quantify emails and pictures in terms of size, we'll have to judge by songs, which are usually about 3MB to 5MB depending on how high it's encoded.

But Comcast doesn't actually tell people exactly what this cap is, leading USERS to sit in fear of whether or not they'll go over and be booted. Although it's mostly heavy BitTorrent users who have been subject to this, the rise of ABC, NBC, Amazon, iTunes and NetFlix video services has put regular people who really enjoy TV into the same group as well.
Thanx for that follow up Broni !

You're more, then welcome

Christmas Meaning

And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

And, lo, the angel of the Lord CAME upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.

And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

Solve : Help!!! spam flooding my email account?

Answer»

I recently found out that my aol email account has been flooding for the past month with spam email. I was wondering if there is anyway to get rid of them for good. A lot of them are the same spam emails and everytime i delete them they come back. From 2/14/2008 to 2/15/2008 I received a total of 47 spam emails.i dont used to use AOL mail; but yahoo mail has a spam feature beside delete and is good to tackle those problems, i think AOL mail should have this feature too, don't they?Aol has that feature but the same emails tend to reappear. Switch to GMail... Best spam filter around.ill 2nd that
i get hundreds of spam emails a month for some reason but not 1 has got into my inbox
gmail IS the bestAnother good IDEA is to use a disposable email account for logging into sites that REQUIRE it etc.
I use Yahoo for this and all that garbage never touches my main e-mail account.
Forwarding messages without cleaning out all the email addys is another way to get spammed a ton. If any of your buddies forward to you this way re-educate them as to the proper way or politely tell them you will no longer be opening their emails.I'm currently using my hotmail account. But when I used my Gmail account, i was gettin at least 20 spam messages a day. They went straight to the ''spam junkyard'', except for a few biatches who found their way to my inbox. Since Í'm using my hotmail again, I haven't received 1 spam message. I also always delete any message I don't recognize, cuz some of those bastards create a spam flood when you try to open them. Might be a good tip. Quote from: patio on FEBRUARY 17, 2008, 08:33:05 AM

I've wondered about this. Not SURE about the way you said it though.

I was always concerned about somebody else forwarding one of my emails that they received to a list of their buddies. Now I'm totally unaware of it, yet my email ADDRESS has been distributed to a bunch of people I don't know.
In your opinion, does this add to one's inbound spam?

Yes.
I believe there are bots that can scan headers for valid email addys.

Solve : I need help desperatly!?

Answer»

I wasn't sure where to CLASSIFY this as but I'm having major computer problems.

the issue:

My computer will start up, everything will look fine (time LENGTH varies between each occurrence.) a little bit after it start up tho, my screen will go black and a little blue note will pop up saying something to the extent of power saving mode, and it will look LIKE the comuter has gone to sleep. the only thing is the computer is still running and no matter how many buttons i press or how much i move the mouse the computer will not activate again. and I haven't been putting the computer to sleep it does it on its own.

My brother is the one who built my computer, so i've been having him try to fix it... it's been this way for almost 2 years now. he's put in more fans and rigged the computer to force air to pass by the mother board because he belives the VIDEO chip is over heating. no matter what we do we cant make it cool off.

but the anoying thing is he keeps telling me that its fixed and when i bring it downstairs to my room from his the trouble starts all over again! so it works perfectly fine in his room but not in mine.

can ANYONE help me?Double post.

Solve : Hello and HELP!?

Answer»

Hello all, nice to be here and look forward to meeting ya! Names Jason/37/male/NC.
I have what may be a serious hardware problem. Recently my puter stopped working. When I reboot, theres one beep, a spinup sound, then it stalls. Nothing is coming up on the screen. NOTHING! I cracked it open, removed all cards from the mobo, cleaned it out with compressed AIR, and reseated all cards, cables, and peripherals. Nothing. I then replaced the video card because it has worked loose before. Nothing. It won't even make it to the keyboard detection. I cannot think of anything other than the monitor causing this. The cpu and power supply fans are all working also, btw.
Its a custom-built machine with an amd processor,768MBs of RAM, a 40Gig maxtor HD, and the M811 VIA motherboard, and I use WINXP Home with SP2.
Thanks in advance!
i cant tell you what it is, but i can tell you whats its not, its not the monitor.

who is the maker of your BIOS? (award, phoenix, ami, etc.)Im sure that its Phoenix...generally speaking, there is no real way of knowing what the problem is without testing each component. the first thing i would check is the power supply, see if you can get your hands on one that you know works, or if you must, purchase a new one. if that does not solve the problem, we can continue.ok thanks bud. ill get back to ya.Got the new power supply today. Plugged it into the motherboard and the hd, plugged it into the wall and TURNED it on. Smoke started coming out of it and it quickly started smelling hot before it just quit working. Any comments?Quote from: trag on DECEMBER 12, 2007, 03:37:28 PM

what make/model power supply was that? Its a sunbeam 480 watt ps with a 20+4 pin connector, model no. PSU-BKS-480-US 480W RT.
Incidentally, upon closer inspection of the inside of my puter, I found that the internal reset switch(?) that is connected to the "spk1" pin near the power led and reset switch pins on the mobo has a frayed, BARE wire. thats usually a sign that it did touch something. i would recommend a new motherboard, as well as another power supply as the new one you bought apparently didnt work out so well. And Im supposing that I probably need a power supply with a 20 pin connector instead of the 20+4...i would suggest the 20+4 connector. if you buy a power supply with just a 20 pin connector you will not be able to power most newer motherboards as they have 24 pins.So can anyone recommend a good lower end motherboard? Do I need to buy a cpu also? Or can I use the ATHLON thats on the M811 mobo?

Solve : Birthdays Aplenty?

Answer»

[saving space - attachment deleted by admin]That happens to be what caused the forums to CRASH
A lot of people with their birthday on 0-0-0 Yeah it's a strange one. Notice how 90% all are 38 too or birth dates of 12-31-1969. I think after thinking it about even more after TALKING to you about Zylstra that this had to be the cause of the issue over Christmas. MAKES sense because Christmas is a week (7 days) before the 31 and there were thousands of users who had this birthday and caused the calender parse script to overload.

Should have seen this list before I deleted the old 10,000+ users.

I believe that the whole issue stemmed from the YaBB conversion (old forum) to the new SMF forum. When it was done it must have taken birth dates it didn't recognize or were not filled out properly and converted them to this date or maybe like you said Zylstra how it reminded you of the BIOS Y2K problem, maybe the conversion script had a year variable issue that didn't convert older or impossible years properly.

Instead of showing a week of birthday's I dropped it to 4 days unfortunately there's no way to avoid a lot to be listed because most are on the 31st.so that LATEST bug was YaBB's last stand?Possibly. I really can't say with certainty but it wouldn't surprise me. Maybe it's secretly causing problems with SMF because it knows it's going to be deleted soon.Maybe the ex member bug morphed into something else ....

Haha yeah, I NOTICED the birthday thing as soon as I was able to get back on the index page. Having people not set their birthdays is what I figured it was, but never thought it was gonna crash the board. But *censored*, that's still a lot of people there hahaha

I'm surfing through MultiProxy v1.2a.

Every proxy on port #3128 takes me to the CoDeeN website.
Even if the proxy is owned by someone else, it takes me to CoDeeN.

Port #3128 is the only port proxies will work on.

Does anyone know how to get AROUND this damned CoDeeN network, without uninstalling MultiProxy?

I use Windows XP HOME Edition SP2.
Thank you.even with multiproxy CoDeeN networks wont work, you will get a message ASKING to verify your a human and not a machine , and they'll give you more "BANDWITH" if you promise to stop abusing the service.

Thank you Diablo.

Have not abused the service yet, but I don't want to use it because it logs all actions. (I swear I am NOT HACKING)Duh!

I should have tested the entire list
There where some proxies that are up and running and are anonymous and did not come via the CoDeeN network.
