Solve : Problem with the new menu bar??

Answer»

On pages with the search box next to the new menu bar, when I click on any of the buttons on the menu bar, the last button (Forums) jumps down (see screen shot). I don't get it on any of the pages that don't include the search box (Dictionary, etc.).

Anyone else getting this?

[saving space - attachment deleted by admin]What is your resolution and screen size? This computer I'm on now (the one that screen shot is from) is 19", running 1280x1024 (screen's native res.)See if last update fixed your ISSUE. May have to refresh. That seems to have made it worse. Now the same thing HAPPENS, EXCEPT it's the Products, Dictionary, and Forums buttons that move down, not just Forums.May I ask what browser you're using?
Firefox 2.0.0.11

I noticed the search box has now moved. Buttons don't move now. Yeah moved it because I still haven't gone to sleep yet and I didn't want everyone to have the same issue you were experiencing. Strange though that was happening. Ohh well something for later today after I sleep a little. Alright mate. Just send me a message or post here if you change ANYTHING and want me to test it out again. More than happy to HELP. I am not having any problems using the new bar. (I am currently using FireFox BETA Version 3, but it worked fine before I upgraded as well)

(hotlink removed by myself, since it was a bit too big...)
(Cursor was over the view button when taking, Printscreen hides the mouse pointer)
He was having issues when the search bar was also in the same bar. I had to move it down because I assumed if he was encountering it others would be too.
Yeah, it's been fine since then. It only moves when you try to click on it. When you do, it jumps down and doesn't count the click.

And if so what are some other updates I should do?
The extra RAM will certainly help, and also the dedicated video card.
However, that card is not a great choice, no matter what you're going for.
What do you want the PC to do, and what's your budget for upgrades?
It's likely that you can get more for your money.Quote from: Calum on December 24, 2007, 03:42:41 AM

It's likely that you can get more for your money.

Going for a more of a gaming computer. And I think thats the best I can get because I have PCI slots, and not one of the newer. and for budget 100-300 total for right now that is. Just put any other updates you think that may help. Regardless the cost.

Would be a great help if anybody could find a good site for the new upgrades I want to put in were i can get the most bang for the buck. Iv looked all over

I'd say build yourself a new computer with your $300. You can build a decent pc at that PRICE. I wouldn't spend money upgrading that PC.
I say save the $300 and build a new PC.I dont know that much about computer to trust myself to build one.Quote from: Cowz on December 24, 2007, 08:45:26 PM
I dont know that much about computer to trust myself to build one.

To "build" it on paper? That means - to choose all the components.

Or, to literally build it? Meaning, to assemble the components?

I think either of these should be attacked first by reading.
What to read?
Ask here on CH for advice on that.
You can find much on the web, and also in good old books. You'll get recommendations on both.

Take your time. (Is there really any NEED to rush?)

When you feel READY to choose components, make up your list.
Post it here, and ask again for advice. If something won't work together, sombody will tell you.

As far as actual assembly, once you've acquired all the parts - if after doing a lot of reading you do not feel confident to do the job, ask a friend to help you. Of course, you must judge for yourself regarding their competance.

One thing is for sure - even if you don't build it, all that reading won't hurt you!

Thanks for that great post man,

But I just figured out that I am able to get a new computer no need to update this old one .

It will have to be under $1,100 , what are the best sites for computers like getting them customized ? and build by a pro? I will build my own in a few months or years just wanna make sure I got my info good, but for now this new one would do great, so can anybody lead to me to great site like which is best to get of ov Ibuypower, vigor etc...Had this in mind. what do you guys think.

Solve : AT&T, Verizon, and Alltel Analog Cell Phones Will Stop Working after February?

Answer» http://www.theinternetpatrol.com/all-att-verizon-and-alltel-analog-cell-phones-will-stop-working-after-february

All analog US cellular phones will stop working in just a few weeks, as US cellular services begin shutting down the analog cellphone networks, leaving all analog US cell phones dead in the WATER, and only digital cell phone networks in place. If you are reading this after February 2008, and your analog AT&T cell phones, Verizon cell phones, or Alltel cell phones doesn’t work any more, this is the reason. Again, this will only affect analog cell phones, so unless you have an analog cell phone, you don’t need to worry about it.

If you’re not sure whether your cell phone is analog or digital, here’s how you can easily tell, according to Cellular News: “If your phone is less than five years old, or has features like texting, Internet access or a built-in camera, it’s not analog.”

However, says Cellular News, “An unknown number of analog handsets are still in use. Carriers say it’s less than 1 percent of all U.S. cell phones. But with 250 million cell phones in use, that could still mean a million phones.”

If your cell phone is a “basic” cell phone, and doesn’t allow for things like texting, you may well have one of those estimated one million analog phones still in use.

People most LIKELY to still be using analog cell phones are those who carry a phone around just for those rare occasions that they may need a cell phone, people who carry a phone only in case they need to call 911, or those who have received a cell phone through a donation program.

In particular, those who carry a cell phone only to call 911 may be most at risk, as they are the least likely to realize that they have an outdated phone, and the most likely to suffer a serious consequence when that analog phone doesn’t work when they most need it to - when trying to call 911.

So, even if you have the latest up-to-date digital cell phone in your purse or pocket, take a moment to think about all of your friends and relatives - usually it’s grandparents, or older parents or friends or relatives who may be carrying a cell phone ‘only for emergencies’. If you know somebody like that, let them know to check what type of cell phone they have, and if it’s an analog cell phone, it’s time to trade it in - before they need it!
The same thing goes for that in car service thing you guys have in the US (OnStar or something like that). Older versions of that use the analog network. There's an upgrade available for some of the more recent MODELS, but older ones (prior to 2002-2003) can't be upgraded.

Solve : looking for help?

Answer»

I am looking to buy my wife a NOTEBOOK to surf the internet and play The Sims 2 all she really wants is the to be able to see every detail of the game. Which laptop for a price of 850 and under would be best. Thanks Any laptop is really going to be ok. However, at the price you're wanting you're going to have skimp on a few things. The Sims 2 isn't that really advanced of a game so you'll be ok with lower END LAPTOPS and will probably want to keep the screen SMALL to keep the price at or below 850.

Sims 2 requirements:

* 800 MHz processor
* 256 MB RAM if Windows XP
* 128 MB RAM if Windows 98, Windows ME, or Windows 2000
* At least 3.5 gigs of free hard drive space

Also unless she's traveling a lot or needs it for work you may want to consider a desktop instead as it will allow you to get more for your money.

so you just meant that dell products are CRAP unless you use them strictly with other dell products/hardware configurations.

It's not just what I "meant", it's what I wrote. Except that Dell PSUs and motherboards are not "crap", they are just wired DIFFERENTLY from industry standard.

Solve : Computer running slow, HELP!?

Answer»

I have a Dell Insoiron 530, one week old with a DSL connection. Computer was running fine and I installed a HP all-in-one scanner, printer, and fax. After I installed the PROGRAM my computer is running slower than dial up. I uninstalled the HP program and it is still running super slow. Any ideas on what I can do or look for? What operating system are you USING?
Have you installed any extra firewall protection?
Did the issue start a while after getting the computer? Or right when you installed everything?
What antivirus do you have?

Possible causes:
Unnecessary firewall options
Virus
Internet connection (check with your ISP)
Problem with your connection on your end (eg: router, modem, lines, cables) First: Check your cables make sure there is a filter on ever phone JACK in the house.

Second:check if any spyware download a good program for that (ex Ad-ware 2700) also get a virus scanner (EX: AVG,Avast!) check with those make sure you do not have anything.

If the problem still is going on CALL your ISP.

I agree with cowz, his recommendation on AVG or Avast is a great one. I use Avast myself and it's great. http://computermaintain.com has some great advise on how to keep your computer from running slow. From defragmenting to recommendations on programs to use to cleanup your computer.Pardon me if i've missed something from previous replies, but is it just your internet connection that's slow? or is it your pc?

Solve : MY COMPUTER DONT BOOT UP, NO BEEP SOUND TOO! ...?

Answer»

First THING, it all started in WIRELESS problem. It took me 2 days to fix it.

Second was when I update my motherboard drivers and the BIOS VIA internet (i lost the cd driver of my motherboard MSI). Then after all the updates of driver, i restarted my desktop pc then it never BOOT again.
Later on it keeps beeping endlessly....

I went to this website to find an answer and i found some.. I tried it then the final thing is to reseat the CPU to the motherboard. After reseating the CPU to the motherboard, my pc wont start, it even dont have a beep! i just heard a very CUTE beep. then THATS IT!

Anyone please HELP! , I dont know what to do now.

So does it beep or not. First it does, then it doesn't, then it does.... What is it doing now?
Are you sure you put the cpu back in the right way?
How's your power supply? Power plugs? Try unplugging everything and plug them back in.You flashed the BIOS ? ? If so why ?

Solve : Loss of speakers -> Loss of power??

Answer»

Hey everyone, here's my problem
About 10 minutes ago my brother was on his computer when suddenly the computer froze, the MONITOR turned off and then the speakers turned off, he pressed the restart button hoping the problem would sort itself out, but once the computer was off, it failed to boot back up
My first suspicion was the power supply going kaput, but I wouldn't think that would explain the speakers and monitor doing what they did, has anyone GOT an idea what this is/how to FIX it?
I have about 4 hours before my dad gets back, so quick replies are welcome =]check your power strip.... it could have GOTTEN TRIPPED. or circuit breaker...unplug it till the little light on the back goes out for three seconds

Solve : Computer crashes and freezes?

Answer»

Hi there everyone. I have a laptop - Windows XP. It has started freezing and crashing. When I say crashing
what happens is the screen goes blank and there is absolute silence from the COMPUTER. However the power light stays on so there is power going into the computer. I have tried pressing various keys to make it come back to life again but the only way I can get it going again is to re-boot.
I am thinking of trying one of the websites which offers free 'cleaning' of the computer. Would you know of any that are safe ? I am not at all technical so there is much I don't understand about the workings of a computer. I only just understand that there is a difference between the hard DRIVE and ? the softdrive ?. See ! Can anyone help as I am getting worried.
Thank you very much. Regards from Caz.What happens when you restart it in Safe Mode (restart computer, and keep tapping F8 key)?Is it hibernating? Sleep mode?Well there is no need to get worried, because your computer can be recovered. I would recommend cleaning it up as much as possible. There are some good programs for download that can cleanup your computer, but i would recommend cleaning it up yourself with the already installed utilities before downloading some foreign programs and possibly adding to your worries. http//:computermaintain.com GIVES some great tips and how to's on how to take cleanup your computer and get it working at optimal performance.sounds like symptoms of a VIRUS infection. Have you got any antivirus or firewall installed?

if you do, try running a scan. Perhaps it'll PICK something up.

P.S could you identify your antivirus if applicable.He/she has to say something, yet....

Solve : confusing SideBySide error?

Answer»

I don't even know what SideBySide is, but it's been popping up in the event logs of a few of the computers at work. Usually happens right after a reboot. The pcs are running very, very slow and never speed up even THOUGH they are newish computers (dual CORE P4 3.2GHz cpu, 2 gb ram, plenty of hdd space).
I've checked the services and everything seems alright. Can't be malware because our network isn't connected to the internet and we have Symantec Antivirus on every pc just in case someone brings a virus on a flash drive or floppy (not extremely likely).

If anyone wants to check the EVENTS they are:
SOURCE: SideBySide; Event ID: 59
Source: SideBySide; Event ID: 32

thanksThere is a lot of hits on Google about it: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=SideBySide%3B+Event+ID%3A+59&btnG=Google+Searchthe hints from website seem like driver or windows problems.

when you face this problem? after INSTALLING some devices? please remove those software or devices(+ software) to see if this fix your problem?I got it figured out. I had to install vcredist.exe from microsoft. I have no clue why it needed it or why it works, but it seems to be running like it should now and the errors aren't showing up after every reboot.
thanksCool...Ya, but apparently this is one of those errors that can have a different fix every time... different causes, too.Don't you like those?

Solve : scanning color slides?

Answer»

I have color slides I need to get on my pc. I have a flatbed scanner. Do I need to do somethig special or have special software to do what I want ??
I'm haveing no luck. I do get the pic to pc but it is poor quality. Help !!
My op sys is XP,,pent 3,,447 mhz,,320 mb ram,,Gateway desktop 450.Ordinary flatbed scanners work by reflection, that is there is a lamp inside the scanner that shines white light on the thing you are scanning and then the sensor in the scanner picks up the light reflected back off the object.

That is how we see photos, printed sheets of paper when we look at them.

However slides, or "transparencies" as they used to be called, are meant to be viewed by having light shone through them. Photo film negatives are used like that too.

So trying to scan a slide by reflected light is going to produce dull LIFELESS images where you can see any dust on the slide really well. Also, you have to remember that a 35 mm slide is very small and the scanned image is not going to have a lot of pixels.

Some flatbed scanners have optional negative/slide attachments with a lamp in them which shine a light through the slide or negative. The scanner's internal lamp is disabled during transparency scanning. This can give rather better results. But the best results come from a proper slide scanner.

If your flatbed scanner does not have a slide attachment you would have to either buy one that does, or better, get a proper slide scanner.

do check on the scanner manual/website to see if it support slide scanning, if yes you may get what you want by just CHANGING a few setting at the scanner software

emmm.... giving your computer spec did not help us to solve this problem better, giving your scanner name seem more relatedwoud putting a piece of white paper above the sheet help or is it the reflective qu\lity of the paper thats the problem?A mirror might be better. The trouble is, slides have a glossy (SHINY) front surface which reflects light, and shows up EVERY single particle of dust, which is another reason why trying to scan them in a reflected-light scanner is a bad idea.>>Here's<< a possible d.i.y. solution. Here's a slide the guy scanned at 600 dpi using the gizmo described. Some post processing was needed. Notice the dust particles & general fuzzy APPEARANCE. Still not bad for a free gizmo he made himself. Trouble is, 35mm slides are pretty tiny.

If you've still got the slide projector, use it and take a picture with a digital camera of each slide shining on the wall. Seems like it would be faster and easier.

Solve : Installing CCleaner, need help.......?

Answer»

I was thinking about installing the CCleaner to my COMPUTER. I was told on this forum to make sure I untick my Yahoo tool BAR before the install, how would I do that, and why? Right now I am using the standard IE 6.0 tool bar which I like. Will this EFFECT my IE tool bar if I install this program? Thanks.........The Yahoo toolbar is an extra toolbar which if installed, would be displayed below your current toolbar. I do not install it because I do not need it and it takes up screen space.

The fifth installation screen of CCLeaner has a check box labeled "Add CCleaner Yahoo! Toolbar and use CCleaner from your BROWSER". Just un-check the box to skip the toolbar.Don't install the Yahoo toolbar.

Solve : window within a window help?

Answer»

Hi!
Thanks for this site!! ok, I have a dell xps that is not vista, windows SOMETHING. Anyway I play webkinz and when you click log in on webkinz it opens another smaller window that is maximized. On this window it opens y ou can't resize and there is no edit button. I noticed on my NIECES computer that same window takes up her full screen and it does not on mine. Probably about half. I can't DRAG or anything like that. I think I may just have to lower my settings in properties to get it full screen. Is that the only solution?? HOpe that made sense.

Thanks
April
Do you mean the page is going past your screen, as if the single window isnt ENOUGH to hold the entire page (you have to scroll over to see the rest of it)?
Or is it that the window is opening larger than the amount of space available?

We will need to know what operating system you are using. Either on your desktop, or in the Start menu, you should be able to find an icon titled "My Computer"
Right click on it, and click Properties.
It should list what operating system you are using on the "General" TAB, and also some basic computer specifications that you might also consider listing (do not give us your serial number though)

Solve : Slow PC even after Reformat??

Answer» HI guys,

Sorry if this is in wrong PLACE, just not sure exactly where to put this.
Just of lately I have rebuilt my PC with a newer MOBO and better(rated) CPU.
Note these parts are extremely old but still great for what I want to do with it.
However inside windows it is sooo much slower!

These are the specs:
Mobo: Epox EP-6VBA
CPU: Genuine Intel PIII 1ghz CPU (only runs at 750 as FSB only supports 100MHz not 133)
The other interesting thing about the CPU is it is a Slot 1 board with a Socket 370 converter in it
RAM: 512MB PC100
GFX: Radeon 9700 Pro (running dual monitors with DVI adaptor)
HDD's:
Maxtor 20GB (windows)
Seagate Barracuda 20GB (music)
Seagate Barracuda 40GB (storage)

ONE thing to ponder...is I have another COMPUTER built,
CPU: slot 1 550MHz Intel
Ram 512MB PC100
Gfx Radeon 9200SE
same mobo

and it runs a good 2x-5x faster?

So is it to do with the Slot 1 > Skt 370 converter?

Any insight appreciated

Kurtis

PS thought I should add some more info.
All HDD's are 7200RPM,
And by slow i mean responsiveness and loads of bottlenecks.things to check:
Is the cpu cooler properly installed and have enough thermal compound on it?
hdd speeds, age
memory speeds, age
everything seated properly

which os is installed?
Is is just as slow before adding any personal software on it, or only after installing everything? (not including os)
I've actually never heard of a socket converter. I wonder what disadvantages it comes with...Travel to Device Manager and expand IDE/ATA connectors...right click on the Primary and Secondary controllers and check Properties/Advanced and make sure they haven't dropped into PIO Mode...

I dont have $100... but, someday, I might be able to dedicate something better... someday... I have an old gateway that has/had a 700MHz processor in it. I could easily just buy a new HDD and PSU for it, and all would be well in my world. here's the list I made for a cheap server:

of course, if you already have old ram, hdd, and/or case, you can subtract that cost. Quote from: michaewlewis on December 28, 2007, 05:45:40 PM

Hers a cheaper one (not by much... and I am not so sure about the motherboard vs. cpu combination)

Solve : Computer won't start..?

Answer»

Hello everyone, a friend and I just FINISHED building his computer from scratch. Everything's PLACED together. Now everytime we try powering the system up, the whole computer just starts and runs for about a second and dies down immidiately. Meaning every fan spins and the lights light up for about a second and it stops. I was wondering what could be the problem. This is his first time building a computer and thinks it's probably the computer case(we're using an old case but everything else is new). you should post this thread in "computer hardware".

i can tell you right now its not going to be the case, unless its shorting out somewhere. the problem most likely is incorrect CONSTRUCTION. are you 100% sure that all the components are compatible with each other? did you thoughly read the motherboards instruction manual? did you TRIPLE check all of your connections, checking for loose connections and/or incorrect connections? It could be the incorrect construction. Someone's coming now to check on it. Thank you though.no problem .Could it be quickly overheating?

Solve : Computer Shut down immediately without Prior Warning?

Answer»

Hi, Every Computer Experts available here

I am Tan.

Recently i was experiencing that Computer Shut down immediately without Prior Warning, only during playing computer games and sometimes during viewing Movie/DVD.

and,
i have no problem when surfing net and running microsoft office.

This sound weird to me after looking at this forum on "Computer Shut down without Prior Warning", as i basically don't know what happen even with the help on that page.

For your info, my laptop have power supply issues before hand and i have change a new power supply to continue work with this laptop.

recently i have add another new 512MB ram to this 256 MB RAMed laptop. I don't see this as hardware conflict problem as i have this problem before i upgrade the RAM.

and, believe me; the device manager shown no conflict and all hardware are up to date.

Operating system seem no problem for me as win ME and Win XP have the same problems, and i have updated all recently update include the security update (latest at Nov 2007)

Another well noted things is i have change the page file to start from 1000MB to have better performance

and now i am using directX 9.0C, which i believe will not be the root cause as i have the problem before this was introduced

My laptop is the very early version from Hyundai or M-life with pentium4 2.4Ghz, SIS 650 Graphic, AC97 Audio and 30 GB harddisk

can ANYONE tell me what is going wrong? if it was hardware problem, what is the specific hardware that cause this?It sounds like your computer is overheating, have you cleaned it out recently?
Contact your laptop MANUFACTURER and see what they say about how to clean your laptop.
Dust buildup can cause excess heat to be kept, causing your computer to overheat, and shut down or restart. after doing that, i notice that one of the fan malfunctioned, now try to search for spare part

Brushless motor model: DFB400805M90T on top of SIS graphic card

Anyhow, thanks for the help

Emmm... where can i find those???
I have replace the fan with a good one, the problem still exist, did i have any more option? What kind of fan did you replace it with?
Did you replace fan+heatsink or just the fan?i replace the fan only, the fan is exactly same as the originalHere is the new update

i run a memory test, it shut down before finish; but nothings shown bad before the computer shutdown immediately (around 115% of the free RAM for the memtest program)
the CPU benchmark program alo run half way and shutdown immediately

After the 1st shutdown, 2nd shutdown come faster than before (if i restart the computer immediately after the 1st shutdown)

My computer did not shut down during safemode, but it wasn't during office APPLICATION in normal mode either

what should i do? Please help out....
Still sounds like an overheating issue.
After it shuts down power it back up and enter the bios. There should be a section that reports the CPU temp."After the 1st shutdown, 2nd shutdown come faster than before (if i restart the computer immediately after the 1st shutdown)"

sometimes the computer turn off 2nd time before enter BIOS (no chance to enter safemode)

For the CPU temperature, it was same before & After (before shutdown & After shutdown in BIOS), Around 70 celcius to 90 Celcius, is this temperature normal?
90 Celsius is 194 degrees Fahrenheit, which is a VERY abnormal temperature for your CPU.

I urge you to avoid using your computer until the issue is resolved.

Yes 70-90 degrees celsius is smoking hot. The REASON your computer is shutting down is because the CPU is hitting its max operating temperature (around 90). Like Zylstra I would also urge you not to use the computer before this overheating is resolved.

Is the fan on the CPU cooler working?
Have you removed the cooler recently?
Hi, Thanks for the advice. I will take note on that.

The laptop have two fan, one directly above SIS 650 graphic chipset, one located on the open area between processor and graphic chipset;and no fan exactly above processor (they are just plain heatsink above the processor), did this create a problem?

p/s: the cooling fan is working well to-date after the 1st changes done

Did you all heard about problem on M-life laptop? as the heat out from the laptop is higher than expected even at the 1st time i buy and use the computer (you will feel hot air come out when you put your hand nearby the air vent), my fren did comment on that when compare with others brand

Are you using Windows 3.1, 95, 98, XP, 2000, .... or ...?

You might like to explore:

Interesting reading and links here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_IRC_clients

For Win9X, I've used mIRC. The VERSION I have installed is ancient - I rarely use it. It does come in handy on occasion though.

mIRC is uncrippled SHAREWARE. If you do not register it, occasionally upon loading it POPS up a reminder. That's it. I have never really tried to explore all of mIRC's many capabilities, but I've never run across anything that was CRIPPLED in the un-registered version.
I personally use and recommend HydraIRC.

Solve : How many OSes do your computer have??

Answer»

got only one OS on my PC (Windows XP). Whats the POINT of having so many OSes for diffent use? I use one and its plenty enough. Okey, I understand if one OS goes unstable the second one can be used as a back up source to get back all your VALUABLE files and information other than that, whats the point?Differnet Operating Systems do different things better.
Here's why I personally would use different OSes...
If I want to do general office STUFF or games, I would use Windows.
If I wanted to do web design and programming, I would use linux.
If I wanted to check my email and browse the internet, I would use BeOS.
Each OS gives a different feel for every task, and I just decided I like a certain OS for them. I see. But whats the ADVANTAGE for example in using Linux when programming? Some of the programming tools in linux don't work in windows. I like to use Quanta+ when I'm doing web development because it helps fill in tags, functions, variables and other elements. I just haven't found a suitable windows alternative for it.

Solve : Where to put my laptop??

Answer»

Hey there,
We have recently moved houses, As i dont have a desk for my laptop i have no where really to put it.
Atm its on the FLOOR on my room, Which is carpet and it is overheating very fast.
Is there something i can put under it to stop it over heating so fast?
Thankslaptop stand Good Idea

Clothing, carpet, bed, soft chair, etc VERY BAD for laptop, as good air circulation needed to avoid overheating condition!!! Laptops mostly have moulded features (grooves) on underside to allow air circuluation! (TAKE look and see) Work OK sometimes on hard surface like desk but sinks into soft stuff like cloth or carpet wch can block this!! Many people find Ouch!! burned LEG!! after some time USING. Often even need stand on hard surface too for good cooling.

Aviator Laptop Stand=$20

Also Coolpad=$30

Or find small items to raise back of laptop to make air path for circulation=$FREE

Good suggestions by Dias de verano. If you want a cheaper option, just use a piece of plywood or any piece of solid material to keep the laptop off the carpet and allow some air flow underneath it.and yeah you might want to BUY yourself a laptop fan. One of those gizmos with fans that you can sit your laptop on so that cool air blows on laptop to help prevent overheating.

Solve : New Computer Build (1st time)?

Answer»

kl thanx
as i want to have the max memory i can, should i install 3gb?well sure. 3 GB is good enough. Just get 2 sticks of 1gb ram and 2 sticks of 512 ram.

Then you can do the dual channel mode configuration.

But be sure the the 2 sticks of 1gb rams are identical and the 2 sticks of 512 rams are identical. Not necessarily brand, but definitely the SPECS for compatibility for dual channel mode configuration.

That way, your memory will be more effectively used by computer and result in a faster, SMOOTHER processing!cheers dudei was just perusing ebay UK and found this.

you probably did have some kind of gpu (whether it's intetrated graphics or an actual card) before or how else would you have been able to see things on your computer's monitor?

1. Geforce 8600, the card you have linked to, is not high end NVidia graphics card that most gamers who want to play at high resolution and maxed out SETTINGS.

2. Geforce 8600 can play games at maxed out settings at lower resolutions. It is better used for HTPC systems and it is NOT just because of the amount of memory that makes it cheap. It's the processing power BUNDLED with that memory that counts.

3. So with the same amount of memory, you have in 8800GT, more processing units, meaning you get graphics data rendered faster, more efficiently even if memory amount of same and to get that high end power comes with a higher price.

3. Geforce 8500 and geforce 8600 are not bad cards, if you don't play the high end games at the high end settings. But if you want a graphics card that holds up for at least the next 2-4 years, I'd get a more expensive card.

Solve : Can you believe this??

Answer»

I've decided tonight to go for a clean reinstall of Windows 2K on my older computer.
In pretty short period of time between Windows install establishing Internet connection, and downloading, and installing Comodo, and AVG, I was able to pick up TWO Trojans.
I've never, ever had any infection on any of my computers!!!
I can blame little bit myself, because by playing with port forwarding, I had couple of ports open on my ROUTER, but I wouldn't SUSPECT those BAD guys to be so quick.
Trojans are gone, but I'm still shocked. One security co. did a honeypot test with 5 machines all connected for the first time to the web...average time before infection: 9 1/2 minutes.Next time around, I'll make sure to install firewall, and AV from CD, before even touching ethernet cable.Even installing older versions of those APPS without updates is safer than nothing......learned my lesson....Holy cow

How is that possible? I have an anti-virus software (even though its off most of the time) and I'm behind a router as well but I surf the sites I trust and never go on suspicious sites with obvious spyware or trojans. Any website with "cracks" or "patches" some where along the address will have an infection either in the file or they would require you to install one of their plug-ins or applications to be able to download anything.

I don't understand though how do you get a trojan or just overall a virus in general just by being connected to the internet? I've heard people say that even if your computer is off but you're connection is online you can get a virus so people buy that hardware to eliminate connection to pc while modem is online. My pc is still clean to this point.Dis-connect your router and see how long it takes...
I've also seen articles on how it is more prevalent on new installs that are automatically "phoning home" for automatic updates but this correlation may be a red herring...
From what you have told us as far as being behind a router and using a common sense approach to surfing you should have little or no worries though.Quote

Dis-connect your router and see how long it takes...
I did reinstalls before, but BACK then, I didn't have any router ports open, so it clearly shows what a difference router makes.I can't really disconnect my router since its built-in with my modem sent from Bell Sympatico, its speedstream 6250 or something like that.Gotcha... ahah

I unintstalled Flash from the control panel and then went to Adobe.com and reinstalled Flash agian and the problem stoped. I'm not sure why, but that seem to fix it.
I also RAN Ad-Aware 2007 and Spybot Search & Destroy just in case.Just out of curiosity, what version of Internet Explorer are you using? (Click Help > About in the toolbar for this information)

The earlier versions of Internet Explorer 7 had this issue, but, it was fixed later on. You might consider enabling /checking for updates to see if there is an update.

Solve : computer freezes please help?

Hello guys i am new to this forum and have a problem with my computer freezing;
I have made my pc myself with those components: ASUS crosshair motherboard with NVIDIA nForce 590, i have 3 gb of ddr2 installed which are kingston 800 mhz 1GB x 2, and one corsair xms 1 GB 800 mhz ddr 2, i have ps-05 EZcoll power supply 550W, GeForce 8800 GTS 320 mb, and AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor 5600+, SupremeFX audio card and windows xp professoinal sp2*.
So before i have put my pc together it was all working fine on xp pro sp2 for like half a year, then i have installed some updated driver for my amd processor and crapic card and after maybe 10 days it started FAILING loading up windows stopping at the loading screen, the i have spent days on internet looking for solution i thought it was the change of drivers that caused this i have tryed to repair windows twice via xp cd it worked byt was freezing again and not starting at all, then i tryed recovery console from xp cd, brang it back to my old working profile it worked first time than again freezing, so i finally decided to reinstall windows to xp pro preview pack of sp3,I instlled my oroginal drivers and the pc, but it still freezes after some time, i think its hard drive bcs the light on the box DOESNT flash which indicates the hard drive, when my pc frezzes, but i am not sure plase help!!!, thank you in forward.
3 things you can try...
1) Remove SP3...it's still a BETA.
2) Pull the Corsair stik and see if it settles down.
3) Re-install the OS and revert to the original drivers...

Some combination of the above should get you back to stable...

In the meantime DLoad and run the diagnostics from the drive manuf. site to see if the drive is the culprit.Quote from: patio on February 01, 2008, 11:03:32 AM

I have downloaded the diagnostics applications for my hard drive and it found 3 errors in one of the lba sectors and it has fixed it but i still fail on short and long cst test in one of the applications....so maybe i will need a new hardrive and to contact Seagate for a replacement, thanks anyway mate If it fails the tests the drive is BAD, so yeah you should contact Seagate for a replacement.Moved to "Other" from "Off-Topic"

Solve : When I type quickly, my cursor jumps around on the screen... help!?

Answer»

Hi everyone.

When I type quickly on my laptop, the CURSOR jumps around to different spots on the screen and where ever it jumps to, whatever I'm typing types where it has jumped to.

Does anyone know how to fix this or what is wrong with it?

Thanks in ADVANCE for any help!!

MonicaIt happens to all laptop USERS. When you type quickly on your laptop keyboard, people often accidentally touch the finger pad with their hands. This causes the cursor to fly randomly across the screen.Try re-installing your Touchpad DRIVERS...

Solve : Can I retrive a program I deleted? Help.........?

Answer»

I was sending mail and my computer froze. I useally press Ctrl, Alt and DELETE. This brings up my Task Mangers Window and the tab is always on Applictions. I hit End Task and my windows shut down, everything goes back to NORMAL. This time the tab in the Task Manager was on Processes. Without looking I just hit End Process and I think it removed a program or something that was highlighted on top. I don't know what it was, where it went, or how to get it back. I don't know if I need what I just deleted, or think I deleted. Can anyone help me? Thanks.........:-(umm, i think that if you end a process in task manager, when you restart your computer, a program will automatically start whatever processes it needs, so it should be alrite. peace out and hope ive helped lol Thank you, I feel much better now. My wife USE to do all this stuff but she left, I kept the computer. I think I got the better deal though Most likely I'll be back with something else until I figure out how to run this thing by myself. Thanks again. If you are going to experiment with turning processes on /off you would be best suited to create a new hardware profile to do this so if you completely muck things up you will at least be able to access the MACHINE to undo the damage...I didn't mean to press that Processes button. I thought I was in the Applications window. Thats what I get for not looking closer. You can bet the next time I will. Thanks..........No PROBLEM...
Many a machine have been rendered un-bootable by this misstep.
BTW Welcome Aboard.

And did the re-boot automatically restart the missing service ?

Solve : USB Headset with XP Pro 64 bit?

Answer»

I am not sure if this is the correct place for this post, but I am LOOKING for a headset that will work with my Widows XP professional 64 bit OS. I've had a terrible time with some LOGITECH sets, and so many SAY they are compatible with xp, but don't specify 64 bit. I would like to hear from someone who actually is running a headset that works with this OS.

Thanks if anyone can help!
