Not in the installation category, nor will they load as fast - but you did mention "play with", and live cds are very HANDY for that.

My problem is-- I used an Imation DVD+R to record a tv programme- I played the DVD back and the recording was successful. I then put into into the disc drive of my laptop as I WANT to make screencaps of the programme. My laptop is a Dell INSPIRON 6400- it should be compatible with this type of DVD, i think, because on the disc drive it has logos for CD rewritable ultra speed, DVD+R and DVD R/RW. However, the following window pops up - all the options are related to blank cds etc, not playing the dvd. Where am I going wrong? Do I need to download something first? Answer» Ok, so I ripped a DVD usind CladDVD as for some reason FreeDVDripper crashes right near the end (rather frustratingly I might add) &AMP; then I used VOBtoMPG converter, but the MPG failed to import into WINDOWS Movie Maker due to an 'unexpected error'. So I used VirtualDubMod to convert the VOB to AVI (no compression) & then I imported the AVI into WMM which took like an hour as the FILE is like 354,385,835,830,580,538kb in size (slight exageration). After all this, when I think I finally managed to import the movie, I play the AVI in WMM & it stutters & pauses & it's just not usuable. So I'm thinking the AVI is too big for WMM to handle so I tried to re-convert the VOB to AVI using VirtualDubMod again but with various compression/codec settings - all of which FAIL to import in WMM (just get a box showing 'importing' but no progression). I basically want to convert a VOB to an AVI format or any format which is not huge in kb (as it takes too long to import) is compatible with WMM & preferably the option to rescale the size of the video to a smaller 400x250 dimension. This has seriously been TESTING my patience now for nearly 2 days & so any help will be greatfully recieved... Thanks in advanceIs it a copyrighted dvd? If it is, you may not be able to solve the problem legally. If it's not, check out mediacoder.sourceforge.net. Media Coder is a pretty robust media converter, but it has a learning curve... Answer» I have a problem with the computer failing to SEND a signal to the monitor and keyboard. This usually occurs after several hours of use. I can be in the middle of a game or working on college papers and my monitor will go blank and I get a message that says "no signal." When this happens my keyboard also stops functioning. When this happens, I have to manually shut down the computer; afterwards, it takes several hours before the computer will send a signal to the monitor and keyboard again. Usually on restart, the power does come on. I can hear the hard drive start up, the fans run, and everythng seems ok except the lack of signal. Then again, SOMETIMES it starts up with no problem. I have taken it to two different technicians who can find nothing wrong. Can anybody give me any good advice or suggestions.It sounds to me as if you have a heat issue... Remove a side PANEL and place a small desk size fan blowing air into the machine...if the symptoms go AWAY that machine needs more cooling. Check to see all fans operate properly Move the machine if it's in a CLOSED area. Consider adding another case fan.

Answer» It's been bugging me for some time. Whenever I right clicked on any file in Windows Explorer, it took 15-20 seconds to populate. Same applied to right click on Start>COMPUTER. Finally, I found the solution. I installed ShellExView: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.html, and I started to disable one, non-Micro$oft, right click ENTRY (Context Menu) after another, and disabling RXDCExtShlExt Class (Roxio Creator Shell Extension), it did the trick. Now, right click menu opens right away. Answer» Can anyone help? My Dell computer will not start! After the normal WINDOWS logo pops up, a black and white screen appears asking me to select a mode ( SAFE mode or normal windows mode) but after EVERYTHING I try, the computer just reverts back to switching on again! I use the delete key to acsess BIOS but when I need to boot from CD even that key doesn't work. I don't have another type of keyboard to use, I have tried others but they are all USB.Often these keyboards come with an USB to PS/2 adapter. If you got one you can CONNECT an USB keyboard to a PS/2 port.I borrowed a PS/2 keyboard from my friend and that worked, thanks.Everyone should have one in their closet...along with a PS2 mouse.Or at least an PS/2 adapter for your keyboard/mouse. When I try to repair my connection, it fails at RENEWING the IP and when I go to cmd.exe I can't use ipconfig to try and fix anything, so I think that is the problem.
