Solve : Free TV online??

Answer»

Any one herd of this before??? and if so where are the sites lol.
'
Friend was talking about this didnt really know much about it, so is it legal and all>?AnyTV: http://www.anytvplayer.com/download.htmlInteresting link, Broni.

As long as it doesnt block ads, it should be legal. If its video download (or anything with the ability to skip ads) then there might be some problems. No, this is live streaming TV, provided by TV stations from all over the world. I play POLISH TV for my Mom.You might ALSO be interested in Joost. This is something I can actually help with!

try www.ovguide.com and there a big list of those sites just search a movie on there and You can usually FIND it, but I LIKE using torrents much more

Solve : burning large iso on 4.7 DVD???

Answer»

hello everyone,

i have a large .iso file (6.5 GB or so) and it is a setup for a game i have,i want to burn it on two 4.7 GB DVDS using nero but i DONT know how ?

any one can help?

thanksAs far as I know you can't.
This would require some serious customization. You would have to split the ISO into two ISOS moving files around so they fit on two 4.7 discs while somehow make the installer (that was programmed to expect all files on one disc) work on both discs. There are some free utilities that you can find on the internet that are capible of splitting a file into two, however, in your case, this might be slightly difficult, SIMPLE since you are trying to split such a large file.

Essencially, this is how most file splitters work:
The physical contents of the file are split to the ratios you specify (most programs determine the ratio for you by asking you how big you want the file segments to be, in this case, you want around 3.9GB so that there could be room for an installer on one, and extra data on the other). A file (usually a batch file) is created in the destination folder/drive, and it usually has a COPY command that just forces the file into one.

This looks like a good one:

This is for Roxio, but you may figure something out from it:

Another option is dual layer burner.

Solve : low level format??

Answer»

If the HDD got that hot it would still be my prime suspect...yes the HDD was very hot - I'll try and install it in another computer again to see if it makes it freeze - it DIDNT last time - and seatools didnt find any problems, but sometimes it takes ages to freeze.Cant be the HDD, ive used it for ages in another computer and there was no freezing. Must be the CPU or motherboard then? But if they are the PROBLEM I MIGHT as well just get a whole new computer yeah?

I just dont understand why it doesnt freeze for ages, weeks, sometimes months, then starts again. Would have thought that would be because of temperatures, but the system temps on BIOS are alright, the heatsink is ok and the HARD drive being hot doesnt matter(cos I tested it on the other computer).........

So BLOODY confusing.............................

am getting a problem when trying to run winamp. it reads

The WINAMP.EXE file is linked to missing export SHELL32.DLL:SHGetFolderPathW.

TRIED dependency walker and there seems to be no problem related to this. please help

am running Windows 98 SE on an Intel machine with 40GB and 2.4GHZIf it's rather:
The WINAMP.EXE file is linked to missing export SHELL32.DLL:SHGetSpecialFolderPathA
it was some glitch in ver. 5.11. It's supposed to be fixed with ver. 5.12Thanks Broni, the message is definitely SHGetFolderPathW and another message that pops up is C:\ProgramFiles\Winamp\winamp.exe A file attached to the system is not functioning.

I started receiving these messages when I installed open OFFICE software and then tried removing it.am also getting a lot of cannot find .dll files. will I have to reinstall windows. how would i do that without deleting important filesFor Win98 you will need some TEXT editing skills...rename win.com in the ROOT directory of C: to Win.old and re-install Win98.
This should leave your DATA and programs intact.
You may have to re-install some of your drivers afterwards.

Solve : Dell that won't boot! Please help!?

Answer»

Ok, so I have very bad luck with computers, and do to a laptop crashing I brought an old Dell Optiplex GX 260 desktop(used to be used in a highschool) back to school with me to use. It ran perfectly fine Tuesday night at home, but when I plugged it in and tried to boot up, it went through the basic loading screens it should, but then suddenly a BLUE screen appears saying "INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE" followed by a lot of other text about the hard drive.

I ran all of the tests I could access through hitting the F12 key when the option is available during the startup loading pages, and they all said they passed, however that blue screen pops up again and again.

I'm not GOOD with computers, let alone Dells, so I am at a total loss for what to do now. Since I really need my own computer as a college student and my roommate is getting SICK of me having to use hers daily, I was hoping someone WOULD know how I can personally repair this, or get it to go away by any means necessary!

Please and Thank You if someone has info for me!!!!Hi,
Could you try to eject all the CD, diskett and others external devices to see if this work?

if nothing external is in, maybe you can start with bootdisk/CD to see if really the HARDDISK have the problems

you may need to change the boot sequence from CMOS/BIOS in order to boot from CD/Diskett

Hope this help you

Solve : NEW E-MAIL SCAM?

Answer»

Received both of these within the last 3 days - looks like a variation on the $6MM from Africa scam - based on the Tel #'s which are very close they both originated in the same place.

[file cleanup - saving space - ATTACHMENT DELETED by admin]The first is a basic lottery scam, those aren't new.
The second is a twist I haven't seen before.
But all in all these are both just variants of the basic Nigeria 419 scam.
I'm amazed people still fall for these, but they must still work since the scammers keep on sending them out. Greed is a powerful thing...If a scam has a 99.99999% failure rate and the scammer sends mail out to 100 million people, statistics would say that 100 people fall for it out of the 100 million. If he can get a thousand dollars off of each of them, he made off with quite a bit of cash.... I got one form a guy in Sierra Leone and he said he had 10 million for me if I brought him to America, but I also got a 2 million dollar fake check in the mail and It said it was just a receipt for the real one and that I had to call the number to get the real one........I did and they wanted me to order $50 of magazines. These scams aren't new and the only people that fall for them are either stupid or elderly which is sad.Quote

My RX 580 jammed. After I removed paper jam, two cartridges (which were 25% full) were not recognized by the PRINTER. They then SHOWED 100% full, but the remaining cartridges were not recognized even though they were 25% full. I CHANGED them all, all showing 100% full. When I tried to print- nothing appeared on the paper. The process appeared to go normally, but there was not output. I cleaned the nozzles and printed a alignment check, which appeared normal. I am running WINDOWS Media Center XP on a Dell Dimension 510. Any help greatly appreciated!Turn computer, and printer off.
Disconnect printer from computer, and power source. Wait couple of minutes.

Solve : How can I determine if a laptop has been wiped clean?

Answer»

I have a company laptop reportedly wiped and rebuilt in Oct. 2007. The laptop continues to be sluggish and when searching I find a jpeg dated 2004, as well as, other files PRIOR to the date of the rebuild. I need to be certain I KNOW what I am saying if I make this claim.Click Start, Run and type:

CMD /K WMIC OS GET InstallDate
It tells you when the current OS was installed.
Why not just collect all the drivers you need for that machine ahead of TIME and wipe it yourself and do a CLEAN INSTALL ? ?

No.
You will need to install software that monitor and record keystrokes. These are commonly known as keyloggers or Spy Software.
I don't have any personal experience with any other than how to detect and get rid of them.
But Google "Keylogger" or "Spy Software" and you should find plenty.

How old is she ? She probably has a cell phone too, right
dad? Does she use makeup?

Remember who the boss is and she will.i have used KGB keylogger on my comp. it works very well. its not free, but it does have a trail period. You can get free version of KGB keylogger which might be enough fro you:

Solve : 2 OS on my laptop help please!!!!!!?

Answer»

Hi this is the more major reason I joined your site.I want to run both Vista and Ubuntu Linux on my laptop, but dell says they don't support 2 OS and so they wont HELP me .I got a Dell Inspiron 1521 notebook and I want to make a partition but I'm having alot of trouble. Somebody told me that I should get a External Hard drive and so I picked up a 250 GB one from radio shack and if I'm correct these are the steps I must take to have both operating systems on my computer along with all my current programs files and such(keep in mind that I don't have the Vista installation cd's and the dell operator said that they are in my system).

If I am correct I must

-backup everything by transferring all my stuff on my computer to my external hard drive
-install drivers for Ubuntu
-delete my recovery and (C:) partitions(or is it just (C:) that I delete?)
-create partitions
-format
-install vista and Ubuntu on separate partitions
-then transfer my files and stuff from my external hard drive to my pc on the vista partition

Is this right?I know that Ill have trouble with this so this thread may be ongoing. And where can I get the drivers for my pc?I dont quite get how to find the Vista cds in my system and don't understand the majority of whats above, but if you guys help me it'll save me $250,seriously.And if you got a donations thing or something then im willing to put in $25.So please help thank you.

below are pictures of my system and information:

Well, you do happen to have 14GB of un-allocated space...

You can just install Linux on it.

Pop your Ubuntu disc in, and load its installer. Once you get to partitions, select "Manual" (assuming you are using Gusty Gibbon Ubuntu version 7.10) and right click the allocated space. Right click your un-allocated space, and click "New Partition". Make a partition with 2048MB, and use the filesystem/format type titled "Swap".
Click OK, and then go to the rest of your un-allocates space, right click, and this time, use all the space you have left over. Select the format/filesystem type titled "EXT3"
Type in the mount point:
/
Click OK
Verify that everything is the way it should be.
DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, MODIFY YOUR WINDOWS PARTITION(s) IN LINUX. (Sorry Linux fans, Linux isnt stable enough to do that yet...)

Continue with the installer. It will ask you at the end if you are sure you want to apply those changes to the hard drive. Make sure it doesnt mention anything about your Vista partition.

Once the installer is finished, restart your system. A dual-boot will have been set up by the Linux installer, you can now run either OS by selecting it on start.

Please wait for someone to verify these directions first, I am not the great Linux guru... Thanks for the fast reply!Im aware that I can create a partition out of the 15 Gb, but thats just to small for me and since I cannot shink the (C:) partition I think I have to do it the hard way.Is there no way to add more space to the hard drive or something, probably not right? It almost seems to me that dell and microsoft dont want me to have linux, since theyve made it so much harder then it should be.

If I did end up using the 15 GB as my new partition how many programs could I shove in.I know linux isnt meant for movies and games but will 15GB be enough for a wide array of programs.

Ill leave that as a second plan if my first one fails.Where can I get these drivers for my inspiron 1521 because dell.com won't TELL me, those bastards! You know that they are based out of India now to save money, what about helping the American economy? Those GREEDY F**Ks piss me off! Quote from: cheese11 on January 14, 2008, 08:43:28 PM

Someone needs to learn about economics before they complain about India...
American cant develop computer parts for cheap. Outsourcing jobs makes the computer cheaper. Your computer would be greatly more expensive if it was made in the USA, since our majority of population will refuse to work for low wages. Our economy is going down the drain at the moment... (Due to our Wonderful Fearless Leader who "found weapons of mass destruction (-G.W. Bush Sr.)")
Back to Dell:
Their support is outsourced, and almost all computer companies get parts from out of the country (very little electronic circuit board production takes place just here in the US. The research and development is often done here) but, the parts are assembled here. (I dont mind chat being outsourced, but, its just plain hard to understand some of their support representatives over the phone.)

Back to Linux (I dont think political arguments should start):

Since your space is unallocated, you can shrink your OS partition, (right click, click Shrink) then Expand the unallocated partition.
Just a quick note: Since Vista doesnt know how to handle the EXT format, you cannot resizing it after you install your OS. You will have to use a Linux tool called GParted. I strongly recommend that you backup your data first. The last time I resizing my partitions, I my Master Boot Record completely, and was unable to boot anymore. Your probably right about the economics, I dont quite care about America(canada rules)its just that I want what I pay for and the dell operators now are hard to communicate with and I dont think dell is going broke.

as for shinking the (C:) partition ive tried it and it wouldnt work ealier because it sayed i cant modify it because it CONTAINS boot, page file and other important stuff, but Ill try and seeOk I just had a talk to the guys at dell and they are sending me the vista cds and they said I should backup my data and then delete the partitions, create new partitions, format and install Vista on one partition and then linux and the drivers and then put all my software on the vista partition.Dos that sound right or is it in a different ORDER that Im supposed to do it?uh they sayed they would help up until the part when I install linux stuff. It sounds about right. You should definitely install Windows first. If you install windows after Linux the windows installer will overwrite the Linux boot loader.what about the drivers where would I find those?Someone told me I have to have a certain wireless card too(I got a dell 1505 wireless card)so where can I get the drivers? The cd's are on the way, but I surprisingly didn't pay for shipping so dos that mean I got to wait 6-8 weeks, lol.Drivers please!Quote from: cheese11 on January 15, 2008, 08:58:04 PM

If you are installing Ubuntu version 7.10 or higher, you will be prompted for Restricted Hardware. Just enable the devices restricted hardware, its self explanatory.

Solve : swsetup folder?

Solve : opening certain attachments in outlook express?

Answer»

Well, I think perhaps you should only have one version installed. Is there a valid REASON to have multiple versions installed? That may be causing a problem.Aside from SOYBEAN's comment, you may have file association broken.

Right click on any .pps file, click Open with, pick up Power Point from the list, checkmark "Always open...." option, and you should be good to go.I'm still stuck. I do have a question. Hope it doesn't come across as being too dumb but here goes.
Is it possible for office 2003 to be listed in installed programs but not REALLY installed on this computer.
I obtained this computer from my friend so I don't know what was done before.
When I click START/all programs I do not see office listed. I do see office tools listed.
If I click on one of the items under the office tools, I get an error message.
Does any of this make sense? I am beginning to think that I don't even have office installed. This is a very real possibility as depending on how an application is un-installed it will sometimes still be listed in the Start menu and or Add/Remove programs...
You can test this by going to Start RUN and type in word.exe and see what runs....
If you have Office simply re-install it.If you don't, use free PowerPoint Viewer to opens pps files.I guess maybe I just need to install office on my computer. If someone else has a disc for office, can I also install it on my computer or would it cause a problem for the other person? Just so I will know before I try it. My son-in-law has it.
One copy = one machine...That is Microsofts policy...

However you can DLoad Open Office for Free and not only is it compatible with MSOffice it will do most of the same things....

Did i mention that it's Free ? ?Quote from: niknix on January 16, 2008, 06:30:41 AM

The solution has been given: PowerPoint Viewer. Why the continuing problem here? The problem is the same as in the beginning. I can't open powerpoint viewer. So, I'm guessing that I must not have office on my computer. Someone mentioned a free download "OPEN OFFICE". What and where is it??

PowerPoint Viewer is NOT a part of MS Office. It's free, standalone program: HEREOpen Office

Solve : start up switch problem?

Answer»

my power button switch is not working. Is there anything I can do ( without a technicians help?)? I mean, I've had troubles with my pc before.

It all started when one of my friends wanted to connect her laptop to my printer.. well i don't know what she did but when I came home my pc wasn't working anymore. It kept on making beeping noises and windows didn't LOAD. I sought help online from some computer help forums and they all said that 1) HARDWARE failure 2) dislodge ram or VIDEO card 3) I had to reformatt? windows witha boot disk or something.. to cut the story short they weren't very helpful( from a beginners pov).

so anyway, after reading very useful info from this site, I realized that my prob could be a keyboard related issue. after fixing that my pc started working ( and I was extremly happy because I was PLANNING to retrieve some important files just incase my pc goes crazy again) until I decided to reconnect dsl to my pc.. after doing that it started making beeping noises again and the monitor had "keyboard error" on it. so when I pushed the power button to turn if off , that's when I heard a crack.. and now... i believe the power button is BROKEN..or i shocked my pc ?.. the point is, I can't even turn it on . any suggestions? or am I screwed?

btw i am not a native english speaker so pls pardon grammar and lengthy explaination.i forgot, i have windows xp home edition , compaq presario 6420nx, 80gb harddrive 256MB memory, amd athlon xp processor 2200+ operating at 1.8 GHz. you will get more attention from hardware orientated people if you post this under the "computer hardware" forum.

Solve : Nod32?

Answer»

my antivirus (Nod 32)is out of date i want to update it but it needs password
whould you please tell me where can i this password from? You buy it.
Do you CURRENTLY have a NOD32 SUBSCRIPTION or have you been USING the 30 day trial version?
If you don't have a valid subscription you can buy a new one from Eset.

If you don't want to pay for antivirus I suggest you try one of the free antivirus PROGRAMS available.
On this forum we highly recommend AVG. But before you install any other AV programs you should uninstall NOD32. It is a bad idea to have two AV programs running at the same time.

Solve : Battery problem for wireless mouse?

Answer»

I have this "Blue Horizon" wireless mouse. It needs two AAA batteries. For some reason the battery leaks on the same place.

I got that from my friend, found that the battery leaked, so cleaned the spring nice with spirit & later put the new batteries. It worked for a month & then it seemed that the battery was WEAK. When I opened & took one battery out, it was leaked & the dry stuff was stuck to it.

Does any body know the reason/suggestion ? (I know I could simply get another one for like 20 BUCKS or may be even less)"Blue Horizon", hmm, I see newegg.com does not sell such a brand. I could be wrong but I take that as an indication it's a crappy brand. I'd say replacement is the solution here.

Here's what newegg.com has: Mouse (x) > Wireless Type A mouse won't cause batteries to leak...what brand of batteries are you buying ? ?
Do they have Chinese writing all over them ?well, NOTHING chinese on that. They are 'EverActive' batteries made in USA. I bought Duracell now though, but just thought to get any opinion before I bet on that Quote from: Dread on January 27, 2008, 06:22:22 PM

well, nothing chinese on that. They are 'EverActive' batteries made in USA. I bought Duracell now though, but just thought to get any opinion before I bet on that

I'd recommend testing the duracells first, as it would be better to try that than try modifying/cleaning the mouse more....The brand mentioned are retailed at Wally WORLD and other large retailers...
They are distributed by RayOVac as their budget line and are manufactured in the Far East and Middle East.yeah, I think they are a cheap one too. I put the new Duracell battery & the mouse dosent work at all now. I GUESS its time to get over with.

Any suggestions for a good wireless mouse you guys know of ?

Solve : HP C7280 camera memory card input?

Answer»

I just bought a C7280 All-in-One Printer, Fax, Copier, Scanner. It has slots on the face to accept several types of camera memory cards (4) plus, what appears to be a USB socket. My camera is an Olympus that uses a SMART Media card. This does not fit into any of the 4 card slots on the HP printer. I usually use a ZiO! adapter that ACCEPTS the Smart Media card and connects to my computer with a USB plug. But when I plug this adapter into the USB(?) socket on the HP, the machine says, "Unrecognized adapter." There is nothing in the manual that came with the printer to shed any light on this problem.

What to do?

Please respond to my email address, [emailprotected]

JimI dont know if this is of any help. I GOOGLED your printer and came up with the whole Spec and pictures and it seems by the picture that you insert the Memory Cards from your cameral into one of the various slots in the front panel on the Right hand SIDE looking at the Printer. There appears to be several DIFFERENT sized slots. Also there is a complete spec which shows which Memory Cards are accepted and which need an adaptor (not supplied) Hope this may be of some help to you.

Solve : ripping cassettes to computer?

Answer»

i have about 200 cassettes i would like to rip them and put them on cd is there any way of doing this or recording them from a player to a computer i have a new dell computer with windows xp. someone said it was possible but didn't SAY how could someone help with instructions thanksIf you want to go the easy (but expensive) way... HTTP://www.thinkgeek.com/electronics/audio/9778/

otherwise, if you have a decent cassette player, you could just pickup a cable and software (usually around $50) at your LOCAL best buy/circuit city.I do this regularly, CONNECT a lead from the audio out on your tape player to the audio in on your computer sound card. Record using “Audacity”, (free download from http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ ), export it as an MP3 file and then burn it to an audio CD. You may have to play about with the volume controls.Thank you for the help i will try the inexpensive way first and see how it works but i really appreciate the input thank you again no problem.Quote from: TheBrummie on January 30, 2008, 09:12:14 AM

Note that you'll need a cord with a plug on each end for this, instead of the usual cord with a plug on one end and a receptacle on the other end. I found what I needed at a Radio Shack.

Solve : Not sure.?

Answer»

Ok I would of searched but am not sure what exactly to "search" for.

I took some small VIDS and then uploaded them to my PC. When I opened windows movie maker and tried to "import" them to edit , I got this message :

The file C:\Documents and Settings\HP_Owner\Desktop\crushed by bug.MOV is not a supported file type, and it cannot be IMPORTED into Windows Movie Maker.

I have uploaded other vids from my other camera and never got this. Mu old camera is a Fuji E510 5.2 mega pixels and uses a xD card.

My new camera is a Kodak 12X IS and uses the SD card .

Is there a way to convert the vid to the option that it lists ( .MOV) ? Anyone? Windows Movie Maker doesn't SUPPORT the MOV file format.
How are you upload the movies to your pc?Quote from: michaewlewis on January 17, 2008, 05:48:01 PM

Windows Movie Maker doesn't support the MOV file format.
How are you upload the movies to your pc?

I just place the memery card in the SD slot and choose to save to a file on my desktop. Then I click and drag the icons to my desktop. *.MOV are Apple QuickTime files. You'll either have to Google a .MOV to .WMV converter, or see if your camera can save files in a different format. QuickTime Pro can probably convert it, but it'll COST you money.Windows Movie Maker has the capability to "import" movies directly from the camera. If your camera and computer have firewire CONNECTIONS, use those instead of simply copying files off your sd card.Quote from: Tiberian Fiend on January 17, 2008, 11:03:22 PM

So your saying to just do a google search and try and find a converter , or use the quick time one and pay ?

Either one sounds fine thanks Quote from: michaewlewis on January 18, 2008, 09:53:39 AM

Well in regards to that I have the wire that goes from the camera to the USB port on the PC. Never did that transfer before though . Give that a try. Windows Movie Maker should be able to handle that. Also check out the movie maker website at microsoft.com

Solve : divx movie to DVD±RW, readable on standalone DVD player?

Answer»

Before I'll make few more coasters....
I have Phillips standalone DVD player, which is capable to read divx movies. It doesn't have USB jack, so I'm left with CDs, and DVDs.
Manual says, that in order to play divx movie, movie MUST be on CD-R(W), or DVD+R(W).
If possible (this is my question), I'd like to USE DVD+RW, which would allow me to use same disk multiple times.
Now, there is a problem.
If I format DVD+RW as data disk, using Windows, it'll allow me to put a movie on it, but standalone DVD player won't read it.
If I format DVD+RW with Windows Media Player, it'll allow me to put a movie on that disk, and it'll play in DVD player, but apparently WMP closes the disk, because I can't add any more movies (WMP asks for new DVD, if I try).
Any thoughts?
If your DVD player is capable of decoding DivX movies I would think it should be capable of doing so from a standard data disc.
Are you closing the data disc when you burn it? This is essential, no standalone dvd player (I've ever encountered) will read a multi session disc. Thanks Deerpark.
Quote

This is essential, no standalone dvd player (I've ever encountered) will read a multi session disc.
I see. So, what you're saying is that CDRW can't be re-used (by adding extra files) in standalone DVD player?BRONI, you're most likely going to have to CLOSE the disk in order for the dvd player to read it. However, with a RW, you should then be able to erase the disk and then reuse it again. The downside is the amount of time it'll take to erase the disk and then re-write it, but I doubt any DVD will work as an open session disc in your dvd player.Quote

You must be right. Maybe it's time to upgrade my DVD player. The new ones come with USB ports, and as my friend told me, you can play movies from USB sticks without a problem.
I think, I'm just wasting my time.
Thanks.no problem. wish I had better news for yaOh, well, those things are cheap. My friend got DVD player with USB port for ~$70, at Best Buy.

Solve : Trouble with Laptop?

Answer»

I got a Toshiba Satellite A215-S7437 with Windows Vista in November. Right away, I noticed the computer would turn off by itself. Three days ago, I put my computer on standby, and it wouldn't come BACK on, so I turned it off, and tried to start it up again, but it wouldn't start, and hasn't started for three days. What may be the source of the PROBLEM, and how do you FIX it? I have not installed any new hardware since the start of this month, and I don't think I have a virus... I just want my laptop back to working. When you push the power button, do you get any fan noises, or lights?

Try unplugging the laptop and pull the battery out. Let it sit that way for a MINUTE or two and then plug it in and push the power button. Leave the battery out at first, and if it STARTS, then try putting it back in. If it doesn't start, unplug it, put the battery in, and then try to turn it on.

Put the image onto the new drives, then format the old ones and copy the image over to one of those.
Then set up the new drives in whatever configuration you see best and then put the image onto them.
You didn't answer my question...I think michaewlewis may have been suggesting that the new drives could be connected at the same time as the existing drives. The OP didn't say how many SATA connections were available though.

Solve : I wish to change the layout of my screen?

Thanks. I brought up the picture with your advise, and the upper right corner has 8 little icons where the large X used to be.
You got it right;the taskbar(I did'nt know the nomenclature)should be on the bottom.
How can I do this?
FrankMove your mouse cursor to a blank spot on the taskbar. Click and hold the left mouse button and move the mouse cursor down (while still holding in the left mouse button) to the bottom of your screen.
This should move your taskbar back to it's regular position.
You can prevent this from happening again by locking the taskbar.
To do this right click the taskbar and select Lock the TaskbarThose 8 little icons are part of the taskbar. Once you move it back down to the bottom of your screen, the X to close application windows will then be in the upper right corner. Have you moved your taskbar to the bottom yet, as INSTRUCTED by Deerpark?Yes,I did.But it is not all the way off.

Most people do not use the search bar, i.e. the Address box, on the Windows taskbar. Here's how to remove it. Right click on a blank part of your taskbar. You'll see a menu with Toolbars at the top. Farther down that menu, you'll see "Lock the Taskbar". Unlock it, then bring up the right-click menu again and point to Toolbars to display a sub-menu. On the sub-menu, un-select Address; I suggest you also un-select Links, since that's also one of the toolbars taking up space on your screen. Now, you may still need to adjust the height of your taskbar by dragging the top of it down so that the taskbar only uses one row. Your current taskbar is using 3 rows of space. When finished with the changes, right click to bring up that menu again and Lock the Taskbar.

Solve : clear hard drive?

Answer»

Hey CH my installation cds are on the way so I can have vista and ubuntu on my new laptop!

So I got this old computer, but it has viruses and stuff.A friend of mine wants a computer and hes offered $200 for the old 2001 dell dimension computer, lol he is a retard because I bought it for less and he could get one for free I bet, but he likes it because he thinks the box is pretty. So I want to wipe the hard DRIVE and clear all the data completely, then reinstall windows, how would I do this?Is there some magic cd I can get for free and then boot it up and it erase everything?Do I reformat it or something? What is the best option for free?A FORMAT and reinstall is ok if you have no personal data on it and just want to clear of any viruses and such.
But if you want to be fairly certain he isn't going to recover any of your old data, I suggest you wipe the drive with something like DBAN. You burn it to a CD or install it on a floppy and boot the computer with it. It has different wiping modes depending on how secure you want it. After it's done, no recovery software in the world is going to find anything on that drive.
That being said the data can still, in theory, be recovered. But it would require specialist equipment and knowledge that isn't available to any regular user. So if you're storing government secrets on it (or wear a hat made of tinfoil) I would recommend you incinerate the drive or something to that effect. Otherwise DBAN using a medium/high setting should suffice.type in LOW level format on google and download the programme. Easy! When you next turn the computer on have the windows cd ALREADY in and it'll START the install - but you'll have to create a partition on the hard drive, bu the windows set up will guide you through it.....Alright thanks, I actually was looking at that earlier and found a tutorial on irongeek.Did "autonuke" and its going slow, but thats probably because this computer is a piece of crap.I cant believe Im getting 200$$ I mean my grandparents get recycled computers better than the one Im selling, this is so sweet thanks!

You better start off by telling us what kind of computer we're trying to diagnose and what you did when you tried to change the OS.

No brand name on the computer case. Bought it from a small computer store that typically sold to small businesses running computer NETWORKS. I thought it odd that he asked my network configuration when I went in to buy.

Original operating system was windows 98. Had someone upgrade to Windows XP.

I have a fully licensed copy of XP (full edition) that I want to re-install to get rid of all the stuff my son and DAUGHTER put on the computer. Get a fresh start and use the computer for my work excel spread sheets.

Maybe there is another way I can do that?Boot to the XP cd and delete the existing partition / recreate a new one and install the OS.

If that doesn't work then go here...

Let's see how long I can hold the line for . . . I have no plans to install Vista any time soon.
The Windows XP and Server lines are doing me just fine.Yeah, me too. I'll definitely wait a while before going to Vista. For a normal user, vista isn't really that bad. Of course all new OS's are gonna go under the fire by people who have problems with it.

But maybe Microsoft should open the BETA to everyone who's willing to help Microsoft that has some knowledge of computer OS workings or whatnot, so even the avg user can tell Microsoft when they have to be like noobs when they can't understand something or find something easily within the OS.

But hopefully SP1 of Vista gives improvements. Quote from: Broni on January 25, 2008, 05:48:48 PM

Turn User Account Control (UAC) off.

Yeah, and go ahead and ALWAYS log in as root if you use linux. Security is overrated anyways.
seriously, after you get everything set up, you won't normally need to be admin anyway....MS by the way OPENED up over 40,000 BETA liscenses to testers...all you had to do is pass a quiz on OS basics and sign up.
They have SINCE rewarded some of those with free liscenses for Vista Ultimate.Quote from: patio on January 27, 2008, 10:26:37 AM

Man, I knew I should have done that!
Oh well, wait until Windows 7 comes out.

Solve : REALLY old laptop?

Answer»

If you WANT to go really OLD skool then GET a copy of Lynx. That is text only browsing, baby.

As always patio, I aim to please. Ok, I'm gonna try to get that network card back. I gave it to a guy a while back cause I had no use for it........ On a completely unrelated issue, I'm trying to run NFS 1 on that laptop, and the menu looks screwed up....the game is screwed up in a similar way too when I run it in 640X480 but it's fine on 320X200. The image sort of overlaps itself.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I can't CHANGE the menu resolution. You are asking that machine to do the impossible....
With those specs notepad could probably lock up that machine...

Solve : What is a mail server??

Answer»

I am going through "Craigslist.com" looking for items to buy. When I GO to email anyone, a Internet Connection Wizard box pops up. It wants to know what my incoming mail server is, POP3,IMAP,HTTP. Then it asks what my outgoing mail server is, SMTP. I don't know what any of these things are. How do I find out what my incoming and outgoing servers are? It won't let me send mail to any contacts unless I type this info in the boxes. Can anyone help? Maybe look at the help section for email set up (e.g. Outlook Express) at your Internet Provider's home page. There might be a tutorial...What KIND of email do you have?
Pop3, Imap, website based, etc.... in other words how do you usually send email?I have windows XP and I use IE. For my emails I have a AOL AIM mailbox and usually send and recieve through them.Is that an online service? As in you use your internet browser to access your emails?Contact your ISP for the settings...and give ThunderBird a try.Yes it is a online service, and I use my Internet Explorer to access my Aol AIM mail. That's the problem then. Windows doesn't know you use AOL aim mail so when you click a email link on Craigslist windows opens the default choice, Outlook Express. Since you don't use OE it starts ASKING you to set it up with email server and account info.
You will need to copy the emails you want to write and send them a mail using AIM mail. And you can setup a real mail account available free from your ISP...Thanks for all the help.......
