The download link is about 1/2 way down the page...DLoad and run it.Problem is i cant Install it, " Another installation in process :O"Try opening Task Manager by hitting CTRL+ALT+Delete...look to see what installer program is running. Solve : application for a job with tech guys ?! :( help :D? |
Answer» Ok guys ive beening browseing the net looking for work ..... and i have applied for a few jobs so far , but because i havent got any formal qulafactions i cant type up a C.v so im stuffed there .... can you guys take a look at what im going to send to the tach guys as a statement sort of thing requesting a interview... thanks all anything you think i need to change or add please please say?! Dear recruitment Dear recruitment? What happened to Dear Sirs or Dear Mr Somebody or dear Miss Jackson? I want to apply... You don't want to, that's what you're doing. So you could/should begin with "I hereby apply for employment with your company" or, IMHO, even better "I wish to be considered for employment within your company." This does not specify which job, you just want to be considered for employment within the organization. Next could come a concise but factual description of yourself. Nowhere in your application do you give any details of any personal circumstances, not even your age, where you currently live and for how long you've lived there, or any prior/current employment experience, domestic status, sports/recreational involvement etc. Now comes the unfortunate bit about not having any qualifications.... Try this.. "Unfortunately, due to family circumstances, I had to abandon formal education in (put the month and year here) without any formal qualification. Since then I have concentrated on personal computers, both hardware and software, and have gained a reputation among friends as a Mr Fixit whenever they have experienced problems. I have signed up for evening studies in computer related subjects and intend to pursue these studies in order to gain some qualification." working with computers means more to me than anything in life Don't ever dare to put this in any application, never ever. Your application may be received by a doting mother who reads that you have a beautiful daughter whom you would put into second place to a hard-drive+processor+a-few-wires. You didn't mean that so don't say it. if i was to receive a email back with a interview it would boast my moral and help me pursue a small part of my dream . You have not defined your 'dream'. And why use the word dream, it might tend to indicate that you are a dreamer rather than being able to apply cool calm logic to every problem. It is not the job advertiser's intention to boost your morale. How about: "My long-term intention is to be a valued member of a problem solving team such as exists within your company. I believe I have much to offer as a knowledgeable and loyal employee. I look forward to receiving your response as soon as possible." As to the short list of your abilities. You have demoted them to being a ps whereas if you want to promote your abilities you should be emphasizing them. However, in the context of the job application, I don't think you should include such specifics. Why? In the hardware abilities list I know of 14-year-olds who are doing these things every week just for the fun of it. In the software list #1 stretches the imagination just a little, as does #5. You should leave the abilities description until the Q&A part of a face-to-face interview. After all that I still believe that you need professional assistance in preparing your application. All the best. Truthfully, I also have to agree with Dusty on this one. Currently working at McDonald's I'm sure you'd have more job experience than me. Though I believe that the purpose of a job application form is not to conduct the interview by mail. You seem to be doing this in some ways, especially in stating your abilities. You are trying to persuade the application's reader that you are a person that is worth interviewing and has potential to contribute to the business, usually moreso than other people. At the interview itself you will probably reinforce this and be asked of your specific skills. Although you can exaggerate to an extent, you should not make false claims that can not possibly be true. Just prove that you have potential, you shouldn't really be focusing on whatever 'flaws' you may have in the area. Take Dusty's points into account, I'm sure he'd be inclined to help you in more areas, but none of us are going to write this for you word for word. Again, I'm no job interviewee expert and Dusty has covered this all much more thoroughly. Best of luck.Sorry to be negative, but I agree with the above points. If you want some help with your application, I'll give you a hand with it. You really need a CV as well, and some references. The way i was taught to do a CV - This is just an example Curriculum Vitae Contact Details NameYour Name here Address Your address here Academic Qualifications You must have some quifications.. Any thing heath and safty certificate ( you can twist it to make it look relevant ) Employment History June 2004-present day Elvet Bridge Durham City As an undergraduate student I undertook regular weekend and (seasonal) full-time work in a busy local café to supplement my income and keep a tangible link with the ‘real’ world. Working at O’Brien’s taught me the importance of customer service and gave me a strong sense of personal responsibility. It also taught me the intrinsic value of working hard, and the necessity for co-operation within any team or business structure. I also have been working as a part time supervisor for the past two years, which required that I be able to manage staff and stock, and was responsible for avoiding shortages of either. This taught me to resolve conflicts in the workplace and to take on increased duties, as well as to work unsupervised. Personal Statement I chose to study law because I enjoy work that is intellectually stimulating and requires attention to detail, and because it offered the opportunity to work in a field that would benefit society. I bring commitment and enthusiasm to any work I undertake, and have good communication skills, coupled with a creative, inquisitive mind and a hard working nature, as well as years of customer service experience. Click on the careers tab on their site. Below is an advert for a team member - They ask for computer experience not qualifications (these can be gained anytime). Don't worry if you don't have all the skills asked for, if they think you suitable they will train you in the others. Team Member - Starting Salary between £13k - £16k plus benefits We are looking for a team to help grow the success of The TechGuys service outlet. You will need: good working knowledge of PC technology and computing operating systems; a proven track record of achievement in problem solving for customers in a highly demanding environment; to ideally have experience in a technicians role or business-to-business sales role passion for delivering a personalised and outstanding customer service; to naturally encourage a spirit of teamwork by providing additional support in all areas of the store. More importantly you need a self confidence boost. Believe in yourself or no-one else will. Give out your full CV details no matter how "poor" you may think them. As long as you can explain it away as having very little direction when you first left school until you discovered computers and now realised the direction you were now seeking. Mention your wealth of practical experience with your computers and those of family and friends. Don't forget to mention the help you give here. It is all experience that counts. Lastly try to be a little less "needy". They do not give jobs to people to give them a boost. They give jobs to people because they need someone to do the job. Instead let them know you are hardworking and looking to become a valuable and produtive part of their team helping the computer using public. ANd more lastly - don't worry if you get knocked back. It doesn't mean you weren't suitable. it means someone else had slightly more experience than you that time. You can reapply for that and other jobs Don't forget all the small computer stores around when applying. They would be a great opportunity for you to start out. Good luck. Edited: I would be lieing if i said the truth didnt hurt i lack a lot of typeing skills , spelling and that , my overall paragrath isnt to good because i belive in the long run , why would they want to higher someone like me , whjen theyu could higher someone with formal Quals .... im trying because it doesnt hurt to try ........ will i get a interview who knows .... only time will tell , thanks dusty that was a huge eye opener !!! you the man Tony - thanks for your understanding. "im trying because it doesnt hurt to try ." Real words of wisdom which I will pass on to others. Note that in Mektek's post the quoted ad calls for experience not qualifications. |

Solve : Need a pat on the back-or kick in the rear.? |
Answer» Hi all, I've been pondering my first pc build and am somewhat reluctant to start it. I've never built one, I'm not a super pc geek. I can work on cars and have reached the point of being sick of oem computers. You'd think there were goverment secrets on oem pc information. I've spent several hours making 2 build lists one in the 570 dollar range and one just over a $1000. I just need a little input should I try the cheaper build first or just go for the big boy. From all the threads I've read there's always problems and I don't know my way around a bios. No idea about timing or several any number of things. This may be a foolish post but I'm kinda unsure about this whole thing. Isn't the 6600 a dual core ? ?Indeed it is. What I meant by Pentium Dual Core is Intel's new range of (supposedly budget) CPUs. Cheap, but powerful, and overclock well. Just the ticket for my next build. And I only suggested a different CPU because, over here at least, the 6600 is pretty expensive, there's a fair gap between it and the E4300/4400. It's getting rarer too, as the E6x50 series supersedes the E6x00 line. The E4300 is a powerful CPU anyway, even without overclocking. And for games, the CPU isn't too important, as long as it is fairly powerful, which any Core 2 Duo is. The graphics card is the main factor for 3D performance. I see the X1550 listed now, my mistake. But avoid that card, it's not very powerful. Although the naming suggests it is just below the X1600, it is not - it's just a jumped-up X1300. My advice is to get an 8600GT or GTS. As regards motherboards, as FAR as I'm concerned either of those is fine, but I don't have a lot of experience with motherboards myself. For me, if it has some USB ports and some SATA ports, and SLI (if it's for a gaming rig) then it's fine for me. But, if patio says you can do better, then you probably can - see what he has to say.Just curious Calum...what range of pricing are you seeing in your neck of the woods on the 4300/4400 ? ? On my end the 4400 runs $129.00 with the 6600 coming in at $200.00... On the MBoard side of things i'm not familiar with the brand mentioned.I'm seeing £42 on the Pentium Dual Core E2140, £75 on the E4400, and £103 on the E6650. The E6600 isn't available from the shops I frequent, the 6650 has taken its place. EVGA is a brand I'm familiar with, but usually for video cards.Great. Now i gotta google the currency converter ? ? Oops sorry . . . £1= just over $2. According to XE.com's converter, the above prices are $85, $152, and $209 (ROUNDED).Quote from: Calum on September 06, 2007, 04:22:40 AM Oops sorry . . . £1= just over $2. I was actually kidding,,,watching the Markets bury my money from time to time has taught me to keep up with the conversion rates...silly as they may be. |

Solve : I don't know where else to go!? Darn comp!? |
Answer» Sorry...mispelled it, huh? Quote from: sweetinsanity07 on September 08, 2007, 05:00:26 PMok so thanks to everyone who tried to help....but i bit the bullet and just started completely over and now everything is gone.... OH well it works again... Yeah....I did, but its ok...I didn't lose anything important. I'm just glad my computer works again... OH! but now its giving me a message that somethings wrong with my registry...I downloaded a registry cleaner, it told me i had 43 errors and that i had to actually BUY the stupid thing to fix it... Any suggestions?I wouldn't recommend using those sorts of programs, as a lot of them are not authentic, or just show errors to make you buy the program. A good free FILE cleaner and registry editor is CCleaner (without the Yahoo! toolbar). And be sure to have antivirus software installed, or you may have troubles with it soon.Think about it...you just re-installed XP... So how would it be possible for the registry to get that wonked in less than a day ? ? What is the name of this QUESTIONABLE software anyways so we can all be on the lookout for it ? ? I fear all that program has done is seperate you from some hard earned CASH. |

Solve : Have no 3.5 floppy drive, want to back up folders / files? |
Answer» My newest (basement) home computer doesn't have a 3.5 disc drive. I purchased a stand alone zip drive (for the sole purpose to transffer files from my original home computer (1st floor computer) onto the basement ONE. Also, the basement computer has ADDITIONAL available USB ports that I could install a "memory stick" (I think that's what you call it) into. I also have a CD burner and DVD burner on the basement computer. I would like to back up files on the basement computer in case the hard drive crashes. |

Solve : Calculators? |
Answer» Quote from: Dilbert on September 27, 2007, 04:30:27 PM Texas Instruments. Easy to use INTERFACE on their TI-83 and up MODELS. (I own a 84+ Silver and a 89 Titanium) I have a TI SR 50, somewhere. Haven't looked for it in years. Last time I tried it though, it still worked! The NiCad didn't hold a charge for very long though, which is understandable. As I recall, it cost $150 when I bought it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SR-10 Tell anyone to give you 5 consecutive #'s to add... Take the middle # and multiply by 10... Then DIVIDE in 1/2 and there's the answer. Fun !Quote from: patio on September 27, 2007, 06:32:40 PM Tell anyone to give you 5 consecutive #'s to add...Wouldn't that be the same as multiplying by 5?Yep ! Cool it actually works. I love it. Think of any number between 2 and 10. Okay now, mulitiply it by 9. Now you should have a two-digit number. Add the two digits together. Now add -1. Now divide by 2. Now take the square root. You should end up with the number 2!the best calculator is your computer.Yeah but I need a portable graphing one. It looks like I'm gonna get a Texas Instruments.Quote from: Comp Guy on September 28, 2007, 11:01:45 PM Cool it actually works. I love it. No, I end up with sqrt(4), which is +/- 2. Solve : Big grats and thanks to Patio? |
Answer» I would PERSONALLY like to send a big congratulations and THANK YOU to Patio, he just made his 10,000th post on the forums which is a HUGE undertaking. I'm also sure I'm not the only one who appreciates all his help on the forums. Thanks again. The best part is that the posts are genuine and not made to get the count up. ... You're welcome. The forums however would definitely not exist or be as popular without you and all the members who participate on it. I've never been one to care much about postcounts. "Big whoop" I say. However, patio's an integral part of this site and he's probably helped out more than anyone, so 10,000 posts or not, he deserves a bit of recognition.Thanx again Chris and everyone... Personally i'm the same way. I think quality over quantity is a much better barometer. We have in fact a good new core of people here that have only come onboard in the last 10 or 12 months that have become extremely good contributors. If i mentioned names i would inadvertently miss one or two and we'd have another 9 page thread... So take this opportunity to give yourselves a pat on the back...you all know who you are and the contributions don't go unnoticed. I'm not real good at recieving accolades and it's not why i contribute so we'll leave it at this. But again Thanx and congratulate yourselves before me... |

Solve : temp internet files? |
Answer» Unfortunately, I'm not too computer literate. I just recently noticed that temp internet files are not showing up in that folder. I've done plenty of browsing, but nothing has registered. The 'check for newer versions of STORED pages is on automatic, history is set for 5 days(if that even matters), nothing is automatically deleted when closing Mozilla. A setting must have gotten changed or something. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!Quote I just recently noticed that temp internet files are not showing up in that folder. Exactly which folder is that folder? If you are referring to temporary internet files that is a subfolder of windows, Mozilla does not use it. It is IE specific.Yes, it is a sub folder. They were showing up before. I would go to control panel, CLICK folder options, and click "show hidden files and folders." I would then go to my computer, click "c" hard drive, click documents and settings, user, local settings, then temp internet files. Every day, they would show up, and now nothing. Occasionally they would show up just for the start-up yahoo page when I open the internet. But again, I was able to track everything just a few days ago. I'm having some issues with my son and think that maybe he did something to the computer. If I am wrong about something, then ok. Basically, I need to know how I can track or find the temp internet files in my computer-Mozilla is being used. Pleeeeez help!!! The temporary internet files folder is IE specific. Mozilla does not use it. The reason you could see your startup yahoo page is because yahoo is BASED on IE. Once yahoo is started you are using Mozilla so nothing else is written to the folder unless a function in yahoo requires its IE base. The files in this folder are easily deleted, which is probably what your son is doing, so now you don't see your yahoo startup. Even if he did not delete them, there would be nothing in the folder to allow you to track his activity. If he hasn't deleted Mozilla's history you MIGHT find something there.Ok...since I'm using Mozilla, is there ANYWHERE in my computer(cookies, etc.) that would allow me to see where he's been? Using Mozilla surely can't block all activity, could it?This addon will let you view the content of Firefox's cache. (temporary internet files) https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2489 Install it, restart Firefox and select CacheViewer from the Tools menu. How to view the cookies currently stored: Select Tools Select Options Select Privacy and press the "Show Cookies..." button. Note though, both the cookies and the cache can have been cleared by a user and Firefox also deletes old cache and cookies after a specified time period. In that case there isn't much to do.Yay!! It worked....thank you so much for the help...much appreciated!! shouldn;t i be able to open my internet files and see the page ps i have like 5 temp files think my honey up to something FUNNY we have to pcs Hi tlc. Please start a new topic for your question, this way it will get proper attention from the users of the forum. Also when starting a new topic be sure to give us as much information as possible. You should include at detailed explanation of your problem/question, the version of windows you use, what browser you use and anything you think might be relevant. |

But I'm sure there are heaps of those lurking aroud on the net. In conclusion, I think there is no way to record a webcam SESSION (that I know of, so if anyone knows of a way, don't say I told you so or something) without the use of a 3RD party app. Thanks very much. What I want to record are the ANTICS of my relatives and their sons and daughters from the other side of the globe. Then I plan to transfer it to cd so that I can play it to show to the other relatives. I think this wil make our CLAN's relationship closer and more bonded. |

Answer» Hi guys, When you do a clean install of xp you have to take your floppy drive out anyways so it doesn't matterWhat's this about? Thanks Richenstony, One question, if I follow the guide at http://www.theeldergeek.com/clean_installation_of_windows_xp.htm will it delete the previous installation of Windows or will it make a new copy alongside it? Thanks It should do a clean copy to be honest you cant make any major mistakes ...... one of those guides will help you either way... have a good read to see what you want to do ...... but yeah it should install a completely new copy of windows you are promt to format ANYWAY its a very simple task that requires a few clicks and a few keys Thankyou very much for helping me Richenstony, I will do it later tonight after I backup everything. Solve : is there any way to actually edit a cd-rw?? |
Answer» call me somewhat new at this game, but i mistakenly assumed when i bought cd-rw's i'd be able to edit the data on them. is there ANYTHING out there which allows you to copy and edit cd's, or are they mainly to back up things and record music (as my son tells me). You can edit data on them in the sense that you can burn something to a rw disc, read it back later, edit it, and the burn it to the disc again. The drawback of course is that USUALLY you will NEED to burn all data to the disc again, not just the data you edited. There are two ways of alleviating this a bit though. |
