Not sure where I would correctly post this. I'm currently having issues with my Honestech VHS to DVD 7.0.

I have a brand new Inspiron 3847 with 8gbRAM, 1TB HD, i3 3.60GHz processor, 64-bit, Intel HD Graphics 4400, Windows 8.1.

I work from home and have the Honestech device setup to my Directv box so I can listen and view tv on the same computer I work with. I just bought a new RIG and had Honestech setup just how it should be. It started working fine until the 3rd day with new rig. The video soon began to come and go intermittently. What is really weird, when looking at the Directv guide, the channel goes into an upper right corner WITHIN a box and the remaining screen is filled by the guide--the guide itself does not come and go, only the box with the moving picture does. It's currently setup via A/V cables. I've tried an S-cable in place of the A/V, and I get no picture or sound.

I have tried to research this online but have not come near any possible solutions. I'm not sure if it's driver related or not. Any ADVICE or help towards a solution or answer as to why it's doing this, would be greatly appreciated.

I have some post card paper, that it seems too be. I am trying too figure out the print settings so that they look nice when I print something off cause, I want too resell these. When I make a print too and have it set too the best it COMES out light and will smear. I am useing a HP Deskjet F4440Are you sure the paper is InkJet printable? If it's glossy and not designed for InkJets the ink will not stick to it properly. You should already know Windows will someday run on a kind of ARM x86 emulation. But Microsoft says not yet. It will have to be a better, new ARM design.

I have a Logitech MX5000 Wireless keyboard and mouse that I use near our wireless router.
When I try and use the mouse it usually takes a while before I can move it again as normally,
however, on a different unit I set it up with too this don't happen and also, effect's the
keyboard and repeats a key press now and then. I think it's cause, that it is USING the same 2.4 GHZ band as the Router.Wireless devices are not always reliable.
You options are:
- Move the router away from your computer.
- Use a different channel on the router.
- Do not user wireless mouse and keyboard.



Does that mean then that I would have too change the clients settings as well. What should I look for on some of the Router's?You mouse and keyboard should be Bluetooth rather than Wi-Fi. This requires them to be "paired" once with you computer. Thor router should be set manually to a SPECIFIC channel and use the 54 maps.

And the keyboard and mouse work fine with the router switched off or if they are moved away from it? While both the router and keyboard/mouse do operate at the same frequency, the band they are in is so noisy (your microwave oven even runs at around 2.4GHz) that any devices operating there have to handle interference so it's very unusual for a keyboard and mouse from a reputable brand like Logitech to be affected in this way.I ended up getting a different keyboard and mouse for the setup which, has not caused, any issues.So this topic is done.

I was wondering what the best way to clean them. I had them in a desk drawer and I THINK a mouse had a party in there because the smell like mouse pee. I would like to clean them and save them as I do USE them You can use a mix of water, alcohol and mild soap.

Did laundry 1 day...found a BRAND new 16G stik in the washer pullin the clothes out...it had gone thru a full cycle.
I figured i had nothin to lose at that point...put it back into my BLUE jeans pocket and ran the load thru a full dryer cycle.

Folded the clothes...remembered the stik...plugged it in to the PC and it worked...

It's now almost 2 years old...and still goin strong.

BTW I use Tide laundry detergent...not sure if that matters or not...

trying too CONTACT a seller about a item that is no longer in stock but, I am not sure how too do this on Amazon.You need to have an amazon account and logon as your account and then contact seller i BELIEVE is an option similar to how ebay has this feature. If a merchant no longer is in business you might find an item out of stock never to be restocked. If still unable to contact them, you can TRY amazon support to SEE if they have any additional contact info for the merchant that is allowed to be shared. I havent tried this, never had to, but they have everyones info. Just not sure how much is allowed to be shared for inquirys.

Should I consider a turn key web site as a way to improve my social security income? I am not able to get a full-time or even a pert-time job at my age and with my heath issues.
But I see that some y people are doing on-line business. And then I see there some companies who offer turn-key web stores.

I suspect these are likely ways to get the ELDERLY invest money in dubious business ventures. But YEARS ago I did sell some stuff of my on eBay. So I am thinking.

Sounds like a scam. Only way I can see it to be viable for somebody to constantly startup, and create turnkey businesses to sell to others who then get the rewards would be if those businesses are doomed to failure to begin with and there are no "rewards" to be had, and SELLING them nets a massive profit for the creator. Otherwise, they would be keeping the business!

I have a HP Netserver LH II, that I want too reuse to back up some smaller personal files. I want too take out the OS drives so that I have them too put back with the OS on them. I also, need too get the data off the other drives if it's important. I KNOW that the unit has a password and wondered if the drives aren't RAID in any way.I don't quite understand the question here, you will need to go into the RAID CONTROLLER and see if the drives are in an array then go from there. If the OS disks are in their own array you can remove them, if it is all ONE big array you can't. To recover files you would need to boot into some sort of live OS and copy them from there to some other safe location.

I'm also confused as to why you would want to use that to back up files - It's well over 15 years old, will be slow, ridiculously expensive to power and I'd DOUBT its reliability. You would get better speed, capacity and reliability for backing up your files from a $40 external hard drive and would make that money back in a few months due to the power savings.How will I be able too tell? Would a Hiens Disk work? If it's a hardware RAID controller you would need to boot the machine and press the appropriate key to ENTER the controller's management system. We really can't hold your hands with this, you need to get used to looking at documentation and working things out yourself. And as I said, the machine is useless so you are pretty much wasting your time doing this if you want to have useful storage on it.

What should I LOOK for in a portable dvd player? I will not be too worried about the battery live as it will mainly be used in a HOME near a plug inGuessing your already aware that you can use your computer such as a laptop as a portable DVD player.

I bought a portable DVD player years ago for long trips to keep my daughter busy with learning shows vs vegging in the back seat. Other than that I havent found any other use for my portable DVD player. I play my DVD movies on my bluray player connected to TV or just play them through TEH DVD ROM drive on my computers.

Most of the portable DVD player functions are pretty basic. Play, Play Backwards, Fast Forward, and DVD menu selection buttons.

Are you going to be plugging this into a LARGER display or using the small display that comes with the portable DVD player?

I am not looking for a laptop I am wanting a portable dvd player. Using the screen on the dvd playerI would look for the biggest screen I can afford, and a headphone jack that mutes the speakers.

FYI some are not happy with Windows 10.

Here is my idea, for what it is worth. Make a dual boot machine. One computer with both Windows 7 and Windows 10.
But you have to start with a fresh install of Windows 7 on a clean disk. The restore your stuff or install programs, etc, etc.

After that, install Windows 10 on a second partition. Do not use the update option. Make it a custom install and it should allow you to boot wither Windows 7 or Windows 10 after it is all done.

If you use a spare hard drive, you still have the original install with you data and stuff on the other drive.

Do you using your phone for texting? If so, do you know how to type numbers and various symbols when texting? You should be able to find and type such characters when texting. And, those same characters, including the = sign, are available on the keypad that appears on your screen. It really depends on what app you are using for your spreadsheet since each app can present a customized keyboard. For instance, when I look at the Mobile version of MS Excel, the keyboard has a button in the bottom left corner labeled "Sym". When I tap that, I get a different keyboard layout with symbols such as "[emailprotected]= etc... I was shopping yesterday and walked by the smart phone section of Staples and saw that they had some LGL34C phones for $9.99. The phones were claimed to be a savings of $90 since they were normally $99.99. I bought 3 of them to have as spares since my wife dunked her samsung into her coolata in cup holder of her car that didnt have a lid on it the other day when she accelerated and it slipped out of the cubby in the dash under the stereo and took the dive of death into the drink.

Last time I saw phones for $10 like this was walmart last year about this time for LGL16C phones and I bought 2 of them but was told there was a 2 per customer limit. I TRIED to go back in a different day to buy a 3rd and the manager from the department said Sorry NO! You cant have a 3rd phone when he saw me going through line with a different sales associate.

The other day my daughter said her phone was stolen. Tried to call it and acted like it was dead or powered off. I said Im not going to replace it just yet lets give it a few days to see if it turns up. The next day at school she found it in the lost & found it was dropped onto the GROUND and still worked but was scuffed up and had salt on it from sidewalk outside her school. So I almost had to give up my last spare.

Thing is that I like my LGL16C and so I didnt want to give that last one up. So when her original phone was found and still worked but scuffed up I realized that I should keep an eye out for more clearance or marketing pushes to get people to join them in which they sell phones at or below cost to try to hook people into a phone in which they make the money up in the service plan that you pay for and usage, sort of the same business model that the printer manufacturer companies have where they sell an inkjet printer for $30 and make up for the reduced cost for the printer in all the ink that they will rake you over the coals with at $30 a ink cartridge.

So I bought the three LGL34C TracPhones and then needed to do some shopping at Price Chopper. I went to turn down the isle where they have batteries and phone cards and all that on the end cap and saw $4.99. I stopped and LOOKED and they had TracPhones for $4.99 marked down from $49.99. I grabbed the card that there was to bring to the front check out and asked if I could buy 3 of these at $4.99 each. They only had one of them at this store location but a store 2 miles away they could hold 2 for me so that i can get my 3 of them that I wanted. So I bought the one at the store I was at and checked out with my food and then went to the other store that was on my way home anyways so not out of the way to pick up the 2 others. Somehow at the $4.99 price tag I was sold one LG and two ZTE brand phones.

I now have three LGL34C phones with qualcom 400 1.2Ghz Dua-Core A7 arm processor, and one other (newer ) LG with a 1.3Ghz Dual-Core A7 arm processor, and two ZTE phones with 1.0Ghz single-core A5 arm processor.

The older A5 1Ghz TracPhones will be given to the family members first to kill before the better LG's. The LG's I might have running and crunching for BOINC since they use only like 4 watts each to power them to crunch numbers and the 2 other spares I use to have I had crunching numbers and they remained cool and just crunching cool and quietly.

Most people dont have1 smart phone and 7 spare smart phones, but I couldnt pass up the price tags of them knowing that my family is not careful with electronics like I am and if I can buy a bunch of them dirt cheap, each time they destroy one and I give one up to them, I am saving about $25 not buying a new one for $29.99 when they absolutely need to have one.

As for the performance of the older ZTE smart phones with the 1Ghz A5 single-core processor it does run slower than the better A7 dual-core phones and has lesser RAM at 384MB according to CPU-Z for android, but it works and just have to wait an extra 5 seconds for apps to load etc. They all have 4GB storage capacity but the better LG phones have 512MB RAM.

I have a LGL16C that I have had since July 2015 and I love this phone. Stuff launches quickly and games play well on it as well as the WIFI on it has good range and I use the phone 99% of the time with wireless networks for free use vs using up my very limited 180MB 3G DATA plan. Its small enough to fit in my pocket and not be bulky yet the screen size is just big enough for everything I need it for. Bigger screen would always be nicer, but then I dont want this huge phone in my pocket or even worse not fitting in my pocket in which it would be that much of a higher risk of it getting lost or stolen. Phone stays in pocket by itself to keep change or keys from scratching at the screen and has become part of the normal morning grab of phone, wallet, and car keys. Phone in left pocket and wallet and keys in the right.

Let me start with that I am a complete Layman in this topic, and i would like some help from somebody or a bunch of somebodies more familiar with the topic.

I've charged myself with a challenge: Create something that will make my life easier. I need to USE the same command in CMD multiple times, but each time with a different input in the middle of that command. That commands starts a executable file which works on the different inputs, the executable file stays always the same.

My question is: Should i investigate .bat creation instructions & tutorials and will it be sufficient, to create something which i start only once, and then by simply copying the data that is changing and executing it in the command window to achieve my goal, or maybe there exists a simple tool to achieve my goal?

I did some RESEARCH on google and will continue to investigate further, but any TIPS from you guys how to narrow my search, or what direction should i pursue would be awesome.I'd make a batch file, in its simplest form you could simply copy and paste the command multiple times into the file and change the parameters on each. RUNNING this would execute each command in order.

I am not sure about a key on my laptops KEYBOARD. Anyone have an idea what this key does?

Which Key? Have you tried pressing it to see what it does?I can't find any reference to the key anywhere. Even the manual doesn't mention it, so I suspect it might be SOMETHING specific to your language, like the Alt gr.

With the massive amounts of computing power out there for BOINC and the many projects that run off of BOINC for data processing. I have some questions that may or may not be able to be answered here, but here they are.

Every winter I generally run some systems as a means to share processing power for the benefit of helping out a cause as well as the excess heat that is produced is the benefit to myself for running systems 24/7 for the end of fall to beginning on spring months. When the heat produced doesnt benefit me, I will generally stop running multiples of systems because its now coming at an additional cost to me and the benefit of heating is gone.

Currently I have 16 computers capable of running BOINC and I have 8 that have been active with 5 of the 8 running 24 hours a day. 4 out of the 5 are laptops that pump out heat but run on 40 to 50 watts of power each as measured with a kil-a-watt device. The 1 of the 5 is my systems computer that uses about 160 watts when running BOINC.

Questions below:

1.) With all the many people donating processing power, is there really a need for people to continue to join and donate processing power?

2.) Are work units redundantly processed to where there is no benefit of you adding to the carbon foot print for processing data that has already been processed? Thanks for the info. Google search didnt turn up much and so i figured asking here might be worth it, and it was.

The Desktop systems that are only to be used for crunching I started removing the hard drives and running them off of 4GB bootable USB drives with Linux Mint 17.2 this way I am able to get rid of the waste of the mechanical hard drive power consumption. I have a baseline of power consumption of the desktop systems prior to the hard drive removal and I just need to connect the kil-a-watt device in line with it and see what the reduction amounts to. But I am getting them down to bare minimum builds for decommissioned computers so that the power is mainly just for the motherboard and nothing else.

I have one laptop though that I plan on bringing offline though since it takes 10 hours per work unit with its Celeron M 1.6Ghz Single-Core. 2 work units a day for 43 watts of power adds up to 1032 watts per day ( 1.032 kW ) and the other dual-core laptops are able to process 8 work units per day.

Two days a week on my days off I will light off my FX-8350 when I am home and let that crunch 8 work units per 3 hours at 4Ghz, but that is one power hungry system and noisy like a server with all the fans and it tops out at 58C with the stock cooler running full bore. The system at 100% for all 8 cores and the video card and drives and fans I have seen it get into the 465 watt range continuous. And at 11.16 kW per day it adds quickly to electric bill when running full bore at 100% for all 8 cores and that system alone heats the room rather well.

That is safe but I'd still recommend using the app - Facebook will put way more time into that than they will into their mobile sites which are barely used. There should be somewhere to disable notifications in the app if that bothers you.

In rural areas there are more likely significant voltage fluctuations with power from the grid, and more than average power outages, some of them quite long.

I'm trying to find the best approach to running computer equipment off a generator (non inverter type). As you all know, this type of energy is quite dirty and nowhere near a pure sine wave.

a) Can computers run safely off of dirty electricity from a generator if you have a Line-Interactive UPS system that has an AVR that will adjust for small line fluctuations and surge protection? I understand the current will not be a pure sine wave,
b) If not, is the only course of action to buy an OnLine UPS Double-Conversion type, much more expensive unfortunately,
c) Are there any other options, e.g. an inverter along with surge protection.

Most modern gasoline powered generators have very clean outputs and you have little to worry about. But if you are in doubt, have a technician check it out with an oscilloscope and a dummy load to see what it looks like. I'm sure it'll be very close to 99% pure sine wave.

Now if you are talking about analog audio equipment, that is something else.
Some posts found elsewhere seem to be concerned about line noise, which is a big thing for analog audio recording work..

Now as to modern computers. Unlike some older analog electronic devices, modern computers and wide tolerance for power-line noise and trash. In fact, the computer itself uses a switching power supply which has the capability to produce more noise than you can imagine. Nevertheless, the DC output of the switching power supplies is very clean and state-of-the-art.
Some commercial operators prefer to have a UPS unit to ensure that the power is always extremely clean. However, in some cases the UPS is not as reliable as anything else. The UPS is more of a backup system and not really a guarantee that the power supply to your equipment will always be pure and STEADY.
If the generators well-maintained and used properly, it should provide steady clean power. One of the concerns is that the gas must be clean. And also the air intake manifold has to be checked regularly and you have to make sure no dust hits and. And of course, the gasoline generator must be well ventilated.
As I said, this is a quick answer based on my personal knowledge and experience.

The clean generators you are referring to must be the inverter type, which are costing less nowadays, but I don't have one of those. An oscilloscope would be ideal if nothing else but curiosity. My signal might be better than I think, but most refer to non-inverter types as dirty power.

When you are saying UPS, are you referring to StandBy or Line InterActive. I understand that the standby units don't have a AVR and are pretty much surge protection with battery back-up, which might be enough in normal situations (non generator use). Line InterActive ones seem a good idea controlling even slight fluctuations, and with an inverter generator would have to be enough for sure, making an OnLine UPS overkill.

The promos refer to the pure sine wave output of StandBy, Line-InterActive and OnLine UPS's as very clean. But the first 2 will have no say in sine wave pattern coming from the grid or a generator. I thought that what comes from a generator is what you get re sine pattern, unless an OnLine is used.

The people who make UPS devices say they are good. But my own experiences is the are more often the cause of trouble.
Unless you have real measurements, it is guess work.

Biggest thing with a generator for your home is to make sure you have the proper switchgear to isolate your generator from the utility pole. I have to be really careful here about what i say because I dont want to list any methods people have used to power their home (backfeeding) their breaker box which can at all be suggestive.

Do you have a professionally installed generator? or just one of those portable gasoline ones like I have.

I live in an area of New England that loses power frequently. I have a Champion 6500 watt portable 120/240VAV with 7.7 gallon gas tank with a run time of about 11 hours on a full tank of gas.

I have learned with my generator that the standard off the shelf battery backups DO NOT LIKE being powered off of a generator. I even borrowed my brothers generator in which he has a better Honda brand generator and the battery backups in my home acted the same. They click about once click every second as it switches back and forth between passive mode sending the power to devices powered through it and then correcting for dirty sine wave in which it uses the battery. The last time we lost power for 7 hours and I had the generator going, the battery backup kept clicking as it was switching back and forth from passive to active power to the devices plugged into it. After about 4 hours the lead acid battery went dead in the 750VA battery backup as for all that compensating drained the sealed lead acid battery. The same battery backup without generator would keep all the same stuff going for about 20 minutes just off the battery only. So the problem with standard battery backups are that the use of the battery to compensate uses more power than is able to be stored back to the battery during the charge cycle when it switches back to passive.

You really should have a OnLine UPS Double-Conversion type as the solution.

Bare minimum protection from a generator is to have a surge protected power strip to protect from any spikes. Laptops are safer with generator power as for the power supply that charges the laptop battery has pretty good filtration as well as any dips the laptop battery if a healthy battery will keep the computer going without any problems. Desktop computers however really should be powered through the more expensive OnLine UPS Double-Conversion type.

I also have 12V Lead Acid Car Batteries and a 1000 watt inverter. I have been able to use a desktop computer drawing 165 watts for 2 hours on a 750 CCA battery that was recently charged. However during an outage its best to just use one of my laptops. The other benefit of laptop is that when the car battery dies I can swap out the car batteries to the next freshly charged battery and just keep going without having to shutdown the computer, while a desktop computer needs to be shutdown between each battery swap. I like using the car batteries if I need electric and need to be quiet. I have 2 truck batteries and a smaller battery from a Honda Civic that I use for silent power with my 1000 watt inverter.

This is a rec emendation to read an article about this topic.

If you have a computer you need to build and get stuck, then share a picture or description of where your stuck and we will assist with telling you what you need to do next and verifying its all built right. People who want to build for first time that are nervous I have even given then an older computer that I dont care about, show them the computer working state, then I have them carefully disassemble the computer down to BARE motherboard all cards, ram, cables, and CPU removed. All PARTS removed from case, and then have them go through putting it back together again. If it works in the end then they feel so much better about going about building their new computer, if it doesnt work then troubleshoot what is wrong. Sometimes its just a simple 12V molex connection that was missed for the motherboard from power supply, other times its a front panel connection mix up in which the soft power switch is connected to the wrong pins or not connected. If you have an OLD computer available to tinker with that works, and its not CRITICAL if it gets broken, then I would suggest this route. However if you want to just jump right ahead to building a system without tinkering first then we can assist with that too.

I learned how to work on computers because back when i first started playing with computers in the 1980s they were very expensive and so my computers were made of other dead computers where I salvaged good parts from dead systems to make the best of the best out of whatever i could get for free or inexpensively. I made mistakes that killed hardware and learned from them. These days I can have a computer built from a box of parts into a working computer in under a half hour. The installation of the OS took longer than installing all components in the case and connecting it all.

Lastly spacial relations are important, such as a MicroATX case may or may not take a large long video card. I had to modify a mATX case in order to fit my Geforce GTX 260 for example because the card was so long that it intruded on the space where the hard drive caddy was. I ended up cutting out part of the hard drive caddy so that the video card would fit. The caddy allowed for up to 3 hard drives to be installed and I only needed the installation of one hard drive, so I took a dremmel and cut out 2 hard drive bays of the caddy with all parts removed from the case then used pressurized air to remove the metal dust and frags and then lastly took a magnet to the case as a double check to make sure that i got all the metal pieces in which the STRONG hard drive magnet that I salvaged from a dead hard drive found 3 filings that the compressed air didnt remove. Then reassemble the computer and it all worked.

If your building a gaming rig with a high end video card then i suggest a full size tower case, additionally the exra space will make installation easier with more room to work with. Sometimes you will find that the CPU heatsink is in the way of installing hard drives etc, so I always suggest installing the hard drives or SSD's in the case first.Many communities have a PC Users Club that meet every month or 2 weeks...
Find one in your area and join.

Without warning it has become impossible for me to access facebook from my PC running Win7. I can access it normally from an iPad.

On each occasion I get the error message:-

"This page can’t be displayed

Turn on TLS 1.0, TLS 1.1, and TLS 1.2 in Advanced settings and try connecting to https://www.facebook.com again. If this error PERSISTS, contact your SITE administrator."

I checked and the TLS settings are all on. I turned them off, rebooted then turned them back on and BOOTED once more, STILL no joy.

Any advice would be welcome please.

I have a emachines desktop..not sure of EXACT model? It was fine a COUPLE days ago then I tried to turn it on yesterday and all it will do is give me a screen that says " a disk read error occured press ctrl+alt+del to restart" when I do that it beeps and sounds like its going to start up then GIVES me a screen that shows the big E then says del: enter setup f12: boot menu... can anyone please help??Place a bookable CD in the ROM drive. If it boots, it means your hard drive is having TROUBLE. Maybe a loose wire. Or else part of the boot sector got damaged.

Hello, I'm wondering if there is a method to watch your TV from your computer. I have Cable connected and i also have my house with a LAN. My computer is part of my school's domain.
Which means they have control over my pc, which is fine, except I think the admin recently deactivated PIN logon.
For some reason I am part some admin group, which gimes me access to GPO and Regedit.
Im not supposed to, but I guess they made a mistake.

But anyway, I'd like to use my admin privilegies to turn back on PIN logon, but only on my own pc.
How do I do that?
I dont want it to affect other computers on the network, and I preferebly dont want the domainadmin finding out (but if he does it's not really that BIG of a problem".

When I go to "activate pin login" in GPO it says that the setting only works for win8, and if I want pin logon I have to turn on "WINDOWS hello for companies". But im worried that this is gonna affect more than just my own computer.

It was a Pentium 4 and was told that I should and needed to make it a AM3+ When I attempt too play Skyrim it lag's but, FEEL that it's my video card which, is a ATI Radeon X1300How did you put an AMD CPU on an intel MBoard ? ?...or are you talking about the vid card you BOUGHT ? ?If you updated to a AM3+ motherboard/CPU and are still using a X1300, then that is the problem for running Skyrim, since it's a budget card released a decade ago.

If it is still a Pentium 4 and you think the advice you were given to upgrade the system was mistaken- and that only the Graphics card is the problem, then you were mistaken, since a Pentium 4 would be just as much an issue for running that game as a X1300.

Did you actually upgrade anything or it it still a P4? The entire machine is totally out of date and not worth upgrading, replacing it is the only reasonable option.

I started with 8 pin high SPEED CONNECTION then started a dial up connection both are ACTIVE at the same time it seems when you open a browser WINDOW it uses the slow dialup connection any thoughts on this configuration?What is the point of doing this? It would be awesome if there was a source of "the whole basic knowledgle" of IT, but I guess there is not

If I had to choose one specialization, I would say "programming", but I would like to taste other fields too.


To sum up, I'm looking for a source of IT knowledge (I like books, but videos are fine too, etc), which would.. perhaps not teach me the ITs basics, but rather show me how would it look like if I decided to go further into subject. I'd like to find out if I like it or not.Youtube is a great source for videos for this subject. But fact is your going to need hands on experience. You will want to have computers to disassemble and repair etc if you want to get into hardware. For software you will need to pick a language from many and have that as your main programming language and then learn others so that you can work on others source code other than your own since generally in IT if your like many in IT your having to WRITE band aids to fix problems or save a company money by writing a complete program for an accounting department for example or member services where there is a database and a front end program that INTEGRATES with that.

Programming requires strong skills in math, logic, determination, and creativity.

Depending on what type of programming you want to accomplish will mainly determine what language you will focus on. Additionally you will want it to be one that is needed in the field such as if you mastered a language that there are too many people knowledgeable to where there is little demand for that skill you might find that there is better luck with employment looking for someone who is a Ruby master programmer whereas many are Python and Perl. Additionally IT is ever changing and so you might spend a lot of time on one thing and then the need for that dissolves over time. So its best to learn as much as you can and be able to take on as many languages as you can. This might sound overwhelming, but plan on at least 5 years programming and able to bring source code with you to show your skills at an interview and be able to explain it all.

Is there a specific type of programming that interests you?

Games, Game Server/Database, Non-Game Applications, Non-Game Server/Database, Programming for Mobile Devices, Integration Programming ( making code to bridge one application or database to another ), Porting Code written for one platform hardware type to work on another, Programming for the Web ( web design ), or something else I have not listed?I haven't choosen any specific type of programming yet.
Programming for Mobile Devices seems like a good choice, but I'll have to try to find out if I enjoy it.

I guess I'll start from c++, just because it is widely POPULAR so it seems fairly "easy" to learn. If I had to give one piece of advice - Do not start on C++, it is often taught as a first language but this is a really bad idea, it is very too complicated and relies on deep knowledge of how the computer is working at a very low level to do anything decent with it. As a first language you should start with something simple such as Python which handles all the low level details for you. Once you are comfortable with that you can then move onto something like C++.Another point about C++. It is used for a lot of software today but I'm of the mind that this is a case of the language/platform having developed a lot of momentum, and not any expression of the language itself being well PURPOSED for the task of writing applications.

More importantly, it is being overtaken for 90% of the things it was being used for by other platforms and languages.

For Mobile Devices, C++ won't get you anywhere. It's possible, I'm sure, but all the tooling for all the mobile platforms is not designed with it in mind.

Hi I am new here and I hooked up a tv that my mom had been using in the very same way as a monitor and television. we bought a bigger tv for my mom and I took the other tv to put into my room for same thing. When I hooked it up it looks terrible I can barely read stuff on it. It worked perfectly on my mom's computer and I do have another tv smaller to my computer that works perfect but the other one just looks grainy and just not good visual. I went thru and did all the contrast and stuff but it still looks crappy. what COULD be the problem? I am at my WITS END. How are you connected VGA, HDMI or S-Video?

What resolution was your mom using that looked good? ( MATCH this with your system to be same resolution. )

Hopefully its not connected with S-Video. I never had any luck with clarity and S-Video connections as for text is blurry.HDMI & VGA are good, S-Video is LOUSY
