Solve : Unknown Paper? |
Answer» I have some post card paper, that it seems too be. I am trying too figure out the print settings so that they look nice when I print something off cause, I want too resell these. When I make a print too and have it set too the best it COMES out light and will smear. I am useing a HP Deskjet F4440Are you sure the paper is InkJet printable? If it's glossy and not designed for InkJets the ink will not stick to it properly. You may want to see if your printer has some sort of "photo paper" setting and try that to make it place down as much ink as possible then leave it to dry for a while - Ink on photo paper takes some time before it won't smear.Quote from: camerongray on January 01, 2016, 07:31:03 AM Ink on photo paper takes some time before it won't smear.Like at least 1 hour before you can stack them one on top of another and 24 hours for the ink to fully cure so you can frame them. For best results (especially if you want to sell prints) buy paper of known brand and follow the makers instructions carefully. They may be 'finger dry' after a few minutes but believe me some ink/paper combinations can take 24 hours plus before you can be sure they won't suffer. It is the glossy kind but, with some prints it turns out fine and OTHERS kind of smear if after wards. The only real trouble with paper that comes with printers though :/Look online and find a number of firms that will help you make and sell custom post cards. It is cheaper to have a outside firm do the printing. Some OFFER 24 hour turn around.I don't know any an what I want on the cards is rather something that I want too be able too add on to the card's myself. My friend who sells photos for a living, and also frames them if needed, says getting the right paper is very important. I took a print and placed it near a FIRE place, for a few hours and checked it. The ink was still not wanting too stay on it. I have older prints where the same problem is occuring, however, if I run off say like a differnt picture it doesn't have the issue. It still comes down to this... The printer needs to support photo-quality printing... Some photo printers require seperate photo quality ink cartridges... Utmost importance is the photo paper itself. |

Solve : ARM, x86 and Windows: CMET? |
Answer» This is not really new materiel, so I put it here. It was actually quite the scandal back in 2012, when Microsoft tried to sell the first Microsoft Surface RT tablet with a stripped-down version of Windows -- Windows RT -- instead of the real thing. Microsoft lost nearly a BILLION dollars when the Surface RT didn't sell, and nearly $8 billion more when it had to write off all its Nokia phones. So what is different how? It is not the same ARM CPU they used before. That is what is different. But will it fly? The article also says: ... Android and Apple are your only viable options for a smartphone, but that could change. Windows phones -- ones that support all the traditional Windows apps, ANYHOW -- might be ATTRACTIVE enough to pose a real alternative. I am holding my breath. Microsoft dropped the BALL and is late to the phone and tablet market... Android to me just seems way too cheap to add to devices and there are millions of apps for Android. What Microsoft would need would be something that can only run on their OS, protected from others from making a similar in demand useful product, and something that will leverage people to have to buy a device with their OS on it to have their product. One thing that might work is if they made an ARM based Windows OS that was free or low cost, and then make up the money in selling apps, but I wouldnt invest in such a risky investment LIKE this. The market is pretty well saturated with Android and free and other low cost apps. At this point I see them having a Windows product for ARM processors is just to play along side the big boys in the tablet/smart phone market and not feel left out of it. |

Answer» Im trying to find a device that can emulate games (That i legally own) Play movies and music and something that allows an sd or micro sd card, so far i FOUND the jxd s7800a but thats a little too much, is there something cheaper for what im looking for?Search on Amazon for "cheap android tablet" and then download an emulator from Google Play. There are several emulator APPS available on Google Play that you can run ROMS on your android phone/tablet with.TABLETS are a massive case of "you get what you pay for" - The cheap ones are generally really poor quality. The JXD S7800a is already extremely cheap as it is, anything cheaper than that is going to be terrible. You may be better looking at used, higher END tablets. |

Solve : Contacting Amazon Seller? |
Answer» trying too CONTACT a seller about a item that is no longer in stock but, I am not sure how too do this on Amazon. You need to have an amazon account and logon as your account and then contact seller i BELIEVE is an option similar to how ebay has this feature. If a merchant no longer is in business you might find an item out of stock never to be restocked. If still unable to contact them, you can TRY amazon support to SEE if they have any additional contact info for the merchant that is allowed to be shared. I havent tried this, never had to, but they have everyones info. Just not sure how much is allowed to be shared for inquirys. |

Solve : Harddrives Setup in Server? |
Answer» I have a HP Netserver LH II, that I want too reuse to back up some smaller personal files. I want too take out the OS drives so that I have them too put back with the OS on them. I also, need too get the data off the other drives if it's important. I KNOW that the unit has a password and wondered if the drives aren't RAID in any way.I don't quite understand the question here, you will need to go into the RAID CONTROLLER and see if the drives are in an array then go from there. If the OS disks are in their own array you can remove them, if it is all ONE big array you can't. To recover files you would need to boot into some sort of live OS and copy them from there to some other safe location. |

Solve : Kinda a new style bar what is it called? |
Answer» I did wonder if I was over thinking it, as you say a decent history, but the ROAD to *censored* is paved with good intentions. We analysed reviews from different sources and found out that this domain is QUITE a popular resource. Such a big amount of reviews can be good for the Apkpure. However, it seems that its administrators may need to TAKE care of existing security concerns as there is a number of negative reviews which might decrease the domain’s popularity. The above is an understatement. Others say it is a SCAM and a fraud. Quote Do not go near this site! They basically steal APKs, pack them with malware, viruses, trojans and all sorts of other nasties (including remote camera operating malware) and bundle it for the general public. This is an extremely dangerous site masquerading as a legitimate business. BEWARE! This is not about popularity. The fact that they take material from others and inject stuff is enough reason to avoid the site. I think this topic can be closed. The QR CODE int the first post is malicious.Well, there you go. And there you have it... Topic Closed. No harm...no foul. |

Solve : Computer Restarts Playing Online Games? |
Answer» So recently got BACK into pc gaming. So i launched up Payday 2, can I was in a lobby for like 10 minutes and then my computer restarted. So i FIGURED I'd go to CSGO, adn same thing xcept quicker. So I gave up and went to Dishonored and I was completely fine. I was playing dishonored with no issues. So is there something from playing with other people online that is causing my PC to constantly restart? HELP PLEASE. (I know its not over heating nor psu, but I just need help. I'd be willing to redo those things, I just need to be walked trough to be sure I'm completing it correctly.)Have you made any real changes to your system? More RAM? Overclocking? Update drivers? Do you have any trouble on non-game sites? How about YouTube? Netflix? What temps do you get while playing on line? Quote from: Geek-9pm on December 17, 2015, 08:05:12 PM Have you made any real changes to your system?Have you made any real changes to your system? I have went from windows 7 to Windows 10. But all are COMPATIBLE with it More RAM? No Overclocking? No Update drivers? Yes Do you have any trouble on non-game sites? No How about YouTube? Netflix? yeah, none have helped. And both run well What temps do you get while playing on line? 70 F/FYI some are not happy with Windows 10. Here is my idea, for what it is worth. Make a dual boot machine. One computer with both Windows 7 and Windows 10. But you have to start with a fresh install of Windows 7 on a clean disk. The restore your stuff or install programs, etc, etc. After that, install Windows 10 on a second partition. Do not use the update option. Make it a custom install and it should allow you to boot wither Windows 7 or Windows 10 after it is all done. If you use a spare hard drive, you STILL have the original install with you data and stuff on the other drive. Just what I think. Quote from: Geek-9pm on December 17, 2015, 09:33:18 PM FYI some are not happy with Windows 10.Alright Ill give it go Thanks. |

Solve : How to make = sign on android operating system? |
Answer» I can't FIND a way to make an = sign on the android phone need this when entering formulas on spreadsheet? The Android keyboard has three panes. I can't find a way to make an = sign on the android phone need this when entering formulas on spreadsheet? What spreadsheet app are you using? If I go to Google Sheets on my phone, the = sign is readily available. I am using Excel old files with xls have to be converted I see.Quote from: John1397 on December 15, 2016, 04:12:04 PM I am using Excel old files with xls have to be converted I see.Well, you may be working with .xls Excel files but we still need to know what app on your phone you are using to try to open Excel files. You have not answered that question, from my previous post. You may be correct in thinking you need to convert the older .xls format to the newer .xlsx format, but that is not the core issue in this DISCUSSION. You should be able to USE the = sign in any app that involves typing characters on your phone. For example, if you open your Texting app and then launch the on-screen keyboard, you should be able to find the = sign, along with many other non-letter characters. Can you do that? If not, then perhaps the basic problem here is a lack of knowledge of using the on-screen keyboard.I went to apkpure downloaded an app title Excel spreadsheet I would assume this is from microsoft. I have found the = sign seems you need to hit the > key to move sideways to next page where there are more characters.Yep, that's right. Kinda like here...if you go to the next page there's plenty of characters... |

I bought 3 of them to have as spares since my wife dunked her samsung into her coolata in cup holder of her car that didnt have a lid on it the other day when she accelerated and it slipped out of the cubby in the dash under the stereo and took the dive of death into the drink. |

Solve : Does anyone use Windows 10?? |
Answer» Quote ...Windows 10 does take some time to figure out.Is this a credible assertion? Windows 10 is Great, Except for the Parts That Are Terrible Sep 7, 2015 How To GEEK Quote from: debby on November 27, 2015, 02:35:42 PM ... Windows 10 does take some time to figure out.To be honest, the majority of STUFF you have been asking about is general Windows stuff, not specific to Windows 10 at all. You would have encountered these same issues if your new computer had come with XP, Win 7 or Win 8 rather than Win 10.And you're probably right, Strollin, but it has been so long (I have had my other computer for 10 years I think) that I forgot a lot of what I'm asking and the fact it is shown in a different way that I am unfamiliar with and afraid to hit the wrong key or click on something I shouldn't. I guess I'm not giving myself enough time to "learn" it and less time making it like the old one was. Some of the things I have tried to change are not on here or else not as easy to find. But thanks to all of you, you all have been very patient with me and helped me a lot. There was definitely new stuff I learned, I even saved some of the websites on Favorites in case I need to look at them again. Hopefully, at this point, I got it going relatively smoothly. Well, except I was playing Mahjong and a pop-up came on and said there was a problem with the driver, then almost as soon as it closed my game, it came on saying it was fixed. Now, that I DO NOT understand. But I'll get it! Debby The more you use, the familiar you will be with it. I was also afraid of being not ABLE to use my first iPhone. After some time, I can use it very well. I had used Windows 10 for a while on my another computer. I found this operating SYSTEM is pretty good and very easy to perform. Don't hesitate. Windows 10 is the trend. |

Solve : What makes a locked smatphone different from unlocked? |
Answer» If you purchase a locked CELL phone that eventually becomes unlocked does the IMEI number change or how does a carrier know the difference ?Did you ask Google? What is an unlocked smartphone? An unlocked smartphone is a phone that isn't tied to a specific carrier or contract. Therefore, you have the freedom to shop for the latest phones and plans as often — or as INFREQUENTLY — as you like. And when it comes to international travel, unlocked phones can't be beat.Your are better off with an unlocked phone. Quote Since unlocked phones are not tied to a specific carrier you have a greater selection of phones and features to choose from. Whether you are looking for a phone with basic calling and texting options, a smartphone with all the latest features like the Samsung Galaxy S7, or anything in between, you'll be able to find the right unlocked phone to meet your NEEDS and budget. The article goes on to show how you insert a SIM card and activate your phone with the company you prefer. Normally all you do is just change the SIM card. You don't have to change the IMEI identification. |

Solve : BOINC question? |
Answer» With the massive amounts of computing power out there for BOINC and the many projects that run off of BOINC for data processing. I have some questions that may or may not be able to be answered here, but here they are. 1.) With all the many people donating processing power, is there really a need for people to continue to join and donate processing power? Whether there is a need depends on whether you think whatever projects you are donating to are worthwhile. Do they want more CPU power? Mostly, yes - some projects are underfunded and overworked and don't need or want any additional crunchers, they can't keep up with the data they already have. They'll generally throttle down the amount of work they send out or stop sending work if this is the case, either until they catch up or get more funding to continue. The larger projects, such as WCG, can definitely always use more processing power even though they now have a vast pool of resources. Quote 2.) Are work units redundantly processed to where there is no benefit of you adding to the carbon foot print for processing data that has already been processed? ( * I suppose I am adding to the carbon footprint anyways no matter how I heat my home, but for other months of the year when there is no user benefit of the heat produced from system(s) running it, is it worse for the environment that systems are crunching data that had already been crunched and so its wasted energy and added carbon ) Depends on the project. Most use a system where each unit will be crunched at least twice, usually three times, to ensure the results are accurate and that it hasn't been tampered with. This is essential as otherwise the researchers could waste so much time with results generated with a customized app which runs faster but doesn't produce valid results for example. Is this wasted energy? Depends how you look at it, I would say not. Quote 3.) How many times is a single work unit processed before its no longer issued to the pool of computers running BOINC? Such as 3 times per work unit to ensure that the data processed is accurate and those from say 3 donors in which 2 of the 3 share the same checksum for the data its then assumed to throw out the 3rd and use a single instance of the data from the 2 that matched between 2 donors to be added to the database as actual data. OR does the pool of work units get issued to hundreds or thousands of people to where there is an abundance of excess processing completed per work unit? See above, mostly answers this point. Quote 4.) Are there any indicators that show which projects need more processing power donated their way vs another which may have an over abundance of processing power donors to make better use of the processing power available and not waste time and energy and add to carbon footprint with a project that has too many donors to work units available where the processing power could best be directed to a project with a processing deficit? Good question. This is quite hard to quantify as you'll generally find newer projects are most in need of crunching capabilities, however they also don't have the resources to handle the HUGE fluctuations or massive increase in power that a few very powerful machines can bring, let alone when an entire team jumps in or even an inter-team competition - it's quite common for various challenges to be used to "stress test" projects which can result in taking these projects offline for varying amounts of time. The way I see it is that there are a vast amount of volunteers donating computing time to all of the BOINC projects, and there are enthusiasts in each area who will maintain that their chosen project is "the best" for various reasons, as well as of course many others who split their time between various projects. I tend to join in when my team does a big push on specific projects to take places, other than that I spread my time amongst projects according to what interests me and reaching my goals, for example 1m points at each project or a certain number of units. Hope this helps, feel free to ask for more clarification if needed though - I'm a heavy BOINC user but not great at explaining each aspect of it.Thanks for the info. Google search didnt turn up much and so i figured asking here might be worth it, and it was. Got some more donor computers given to me in which it seems as though laptops are best at power consumption to work unit generated. Of the laptops I have running which are mostly Core 2 Duo's and a single Core i5, they all use less than 50 watts continuous each, and process the work units in 6 hours or less for the core 2 duos and 4 hours or less for the core i5 2.4Ghz. The Desktop systems that are only to be used for crunching I started removing the hard drives and running them off of 4GB bootable USB drives with Linux Mint 17.2 this way I am able to get rid of the waste of the mechanical hard drive power consumption. I have a baseline of power consumption of the desktop systems prior to the hard drive removal and I just need to connect the kil-a-watt device in line with it and see what the reduction amounts to. But I am getting them down to bare minimum builds for decommissioned computers so that the power is mainly just for the motherboard and nothing else. I have one laptop though that I plan on bringing offline though since it takes 10 hours per work unit with its Celeron M 1.6Ghz Single-Core. 2 work units a day for 43 watts of power adds up to 1032 watts per day ( 1.032 kW ) and the other dual-core laptops are able to process 8 work units per day. I want to get up to averaging 30,000 points per day, and reduce the power consumption some to get rid of unnecessary components like hard drive when a USB stick uses far less power etc, and laptops I have set to display going to sleep when no mouse activity for 1 minute. Will also mix and match some guts I have to bring online some more core 2 duos. I have 2 of them that need power supplies and I can yank the power supplies from last gen Pentium 4 systems I have that are 24 pin PSU plugs. I could be wasteful and throw about 17 computers running it at the project, but I dont want to double my electric bill and have to load balance them throughout the house to avoid tripping circuit breakers.. Two days a week on my days off I will light off my FX-8350 when I am home and let that crunch 8 work units per 3 hours at 4Ghz, but that is one power hungry system and noisy like a server with all the fans and it tops out at 58C with the stock cooler running full bore. The system at 100% for all 8 cores and the video card and drives and fans I have seen it get into the 465 watt range continuous. And at 11.16 kW per day it adds quickly to electric bill when running full bore at 100% for all 8 cores and that system alone heats the room rather well. How many systems do you have running it and what is your average your trying to maintain? Attached a graph of my processing stats. The 2 spikes on there are the days that I had the 8 core FX-8350 running most of those days + the other systems. My average is 15,995 because I started off weak with only 2 or 3 systems for first couple of days. But once I got extra systems online I am holding above 20k now. [attachment deleted by admin to conserve space]Quote from: DaveLembke on December 07, 2015, 01:08:54 PM Thanks for the info. Google search didnt turn up much and so i figured asking here might be worth it, and it was. BOINC is a pretty complicated topic because there are so many different projects, all of which are, well, different what project(s) are you currently running? Quote The Desktop systems that are only to be used for crunching I started removing the hard drives and running them off of 4GB bootable USB drives with Linux Mint 17.2 this way I am able to get rid of the waste of the mechanical hard drive power consumption. That's a good idea, something that has been done for years with hardcore DCers. Quote I have one laptop though that I plan on bringing offline though since it takes 10 hours per work unit with its Celeron M 1.6Ghz Single-Core. 2 work units a day for 43 watts of power adds up to 1032 watts per day ( 1.032 kW ) and the other dual-core laptops are able to process 8 work units per day. Yeah, when the hardware gets to that sort of age it's definitely not cost efficient to keep it running. Quote Two days a week on my days off I will light off my FX-8350 when I am home and let that crunch 8 work units per 3 hours at 4Ghz, but that is one power hungry system and noisy like a server with all the fans and it tops out at 58C with the stock cooler running full bore. The system at 100% for all 8 cores and the video card and drives and fans I have seen it get into the 465 watt range continuous. And at 11.16 kW per day it adds quickly to electric bill when running full bore at 100% for all 8 cores and that system alone heats the room rather well. That is a heck of a power draw. For reference the system in my spec listing draws ~320W at full load and my dual L5639 Xeon system draws around 220W. Quote How many systems do you have running it and what is your average your trying to maintain? At the minute I have two 24/7 systems - my main PC and the dual Xeon - and my gf's laptop runs part time. I don't have an average I aim for, my current goals are to hit 1m points on WCG which I'm running on my CPUs and 1m points on SETI which I'm only running GPU units for, these aren't always available so sometimes my GPU sits idle. Once I hit that target I'll move onto other projects. I'm currently running about 20k average per day on each of those projects. Bear in mind that scoring is radically different between projects, SETI and WCG are some of the "low" scorers when compared to others, so don't compare work units or points to anything other than the same project and the same sub-project if applicable. To give you an example I was hitting around 250k/day on the DENIS project, mainly due to a blazingly fast optimised app which was available (since made redundant). Collatz and Milkyway score quite highly too especially on decent GPUs, and there have been debates raging for years about various projects which involve Bitcoin as rewards or donations as they score very highly indeed, so the point that most stats sites offer views with and without Bitcoin projects and teams so that the scores aren't "artificially" inflated as you might say.For years I ran SETI. Started running SETI about 15 years ago on Windows 95 and 98 systems. I liked the graphical spectrograph that would crunch the data and show the time slices for the radio data collected. Back then I had 4 systems running it but they were like a 486 DX4 100Mhz, two Pentium 75Mhz systems, and a Pentium 133Mhz. I then lost interest in it until around 2008 when I got into Folding @ Home for a while in which I had 5 systems crunching for a cure for diseases. Then in like 2010 I shut them down. But about 2 weeks ago my brother told me about the Asteroids project and I figured that it is a cool project and might help in tracking down a threat to the planet before it becomes a threat. So I have all my processing power that I wish to donate going into that Asteroids project right now. Out of curiosity I took 10 minutes to disconnect the hard drives extra fans, USB devices, and removed the video card on my FX-8350 system and placed it onto integrated video. Booted with 8GB Flash Drive for Linux Mint 17.2 with BOINC installed and configured to run. 1.5 watts draw in power off state 88-90 watts idle at 1400 Mhz with cool n QUIET enabled 258-261 watts at 4000 Mhz running BOINC at 100% all 8 cores Surprised the video card, 4 hard drives, and extra fans added 200 watts to that. Gonna let this system crunch more often now that I got its power consumption dropped that much. COOL Are you running BOINC on the video card too? If not, dropping 200 watts from those changes seems a heck of a lot. I'd say even half that would be a little high. [emailprotected] is a pretty good project, looks like when I was running it I was doing about 50K/day. I didn't run the GPU app because it's much less power efficient - a mid/high end card will do a unit in about the same time as one core of a modern i5/i7, but of course the i5 or i7 can do 4 or 8 units in the same time for similar or less power draw, so it's at best only 25% as good from a performance per watt perspective. Asteroids is a little annoying though as the units are very variable in size and length but a fixed point value - it averages out over time but it's hard to compare speed at a glance.I was running it on video card too, but stopped that when i stripped it down to bare minimum. This is the video card I had running in it. EVGA GeForce GTX 260 Core 216 Superclocked https://www.evga.com/Products/Specs/GPU.aspx?pn=B828C6BB-988A-4151-B720-092BB920F410Ah, that would explain it then.Perhaps you have already see this. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/80_Plus Quote 80 Plus (trademarked 80 PLUS) is a voluntary certification program intended to promote efficient energy use in computer power supply units (PSUs). Launched in 2004 by Ecos Consulting, it certifies products that have more than 80% energy efficiency at 20%, 50% and 100% of rated load, and a power factor of 0.9 or greater at 100% load. Such PSUs waste 20% or less electric energy as heat at the specified load levels, reducing electricity use and bills compared to less efficient PSUs.The point was that some other designs would waster power at lower levels. The certified units would still be Eco-friendly even at reduced loads. This point is sometimes ignored in desktop design. EDIT: Its Theoretical you can go above 80 % with a modern design. Here is a recent link that makes such a clan. http://www.ti.com/tool/pmp10974 Universal AC Input 5V/10A/50W PSR Flyback Power Supply With Over 89% Avg Efficiency Reference Design Quote FeaturesJust wanted to share that I found an answer to my question #4 that shows stats of all projects: http://boincstats.com/en/page/projectStatusInfo I was poking around the website looking at my stats in which I got 60,960 credit for yesterday throwing as much processing power as I can get to operate at it to see what my ceiling is with everything running. I am then going to shutdown most of the systems to only run better power consumption to credit completion systems and leave the lesser efficient systems offline until I want to boost my credit stats at the cost of additional electricity. I plan on keeping these systems running 24/7 just shy of a constant 500 watt power draw for about 41,760 credits per day: FX-8350 4Ghz = 26,880 credits per day with Asteroids @ 265 watts of power Desktop Core i5 2.4Ghz = 5,280 credits per day with Asteroids @ 49 watts of power draw Laptop Athlon II M300 2.0Ghz = 3,360 credits per day with Asteroids @ 46 watts of power draw Laptop Core 2 Duo T7500 2.2Ghz = 3,360 credits per day with Asteroids @ 47 watts of power draw Laptop Core 2 Duo T2500 2.0Ghz = 2,880 credits per day with Asteroids @ 46 watts of power draw Laptop My wifes computer a Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4Ghz will add to this when its on and not in use by her at around 150 watts and her system has given as much as 4,320 on a day that she leaves it on and isnt using her computer. My desktop I retired my dual-core Athlon 64 x2 4450B 2.3Ghz and installed the Athlon II x4 620 2.6Ghz back into it that was in my newest gaming system prior to getting the FX-8350 for it. And the Athlon II x4 620 2.6Ghz is capable of more than 3,840 that BOINC has gotten from it if I didnt use it for about 8 hours of the day in which the processing is suspended until I walk away for 10 minute in which its allowed 100% for all 4 cores. This months electric bill will be an interesting one with 14 computers running at one point, and 8 of 14 running since just after Thanksgiving. When i get home from work today I am going to slow the meter that is probably spinning quickly like the griswold christmas scene when his house is covered in lights. Depending on your electricity costs, 500W draw shouldn't be so bad. I draw around that with my two 24/7 systems. It offsets my heating costs - I have storage heaters which are inefficient and also on a separate tariff which is more expensive than normal usage, so it's cheaper to use computers for heat and run the heaters on low when I have to. Some people forget that 500W of electricity = 500W of heat, whether that 500W is being drawn from a heater, an oven, a computer or a load of lights it'll heat my flat just the same! With these 14 systems running, my wattage is around 2000 watts ( 2 kW per hour 34 CENTS = 48kW per day $8.16 or $57.12 per week USD). And very true about the 500 watts heat from a PC being same as a 500 watt space heater. At 500 watts I'd be looking at around 12kW per day at 17 cents per kWh for $2.04 per day at $14.28 per week USD. Paying about $57.12 +/- extra on an electric bill per month would be better than $228.48 +/- extra. Winter has been unusually mild where I live in New Hampshire, so I don't need to be drawing 2000 watts 24/7. When Winter finally gets here I will be running all 14 systems or more if I get more systems worth running it. I dont see Pentium 4's or older as worth running BOINC on. I did try out a Pentium 4 HT 3.0Ghz with 2MB Cache but it took almost 12 hours per work unit per physical and HT core. Core 2 Duo 1.8Ghz can get a work unit done every 6 hours per core. The Core i5 is getting about 4 done in 5 hours, and the 8-core FX-8350 is completing 8 every 3 hours at 1 per core. There are 7 other USA based teams that are greater than my 60,960 per day, so if everyone stayed at the same output and I did too, I would eventually slip into 8th place out of 288, but I cant burn 2kW per hour on a constant basis. I might switch to a different project when I reach 1 million or so and help out in other fields of study, but at a realistic power consumption rate. [attachment deleted by admin to conserve space]Your team is also 50th in points produced today WORLDWIDE, so that's pretty good going Quote Your team is also 50th in points produced today worldwide, so that's pretty good going Thanks Too bad its gonna get expensive for electric bill if I didnt shut down a bunch of systems though Got home from work yesterday and only using around 500 watts now constant, but I will be above the 30k per day goal I set for myself. Was thinking one of my AMD motherboards supports an 8-core that currently just has a Athlon II x2 215 in it. If I get a good deal on a used 8150 or 8350, I could have both of those systems running at around 600 watts with nothing else and get done 16 work units every 3 hours for 128 work units completed per day and maintain about 53,000 credit per day whereas with the group of systems now at 500 watts, I havent done the math YET but its in the 30k range. |

Solve : why does Facebook suddenly look wrong on my mobile phone?? |
Answer» when facebook loads it looks all wrong. its just a list of my messages, NOTIFICATIONS & friend requests. no icons, no colours, no newsfeed & i cant get 2 any other facebook page! What mobile phone do you have? the mobile is a Samsung Galaxy Y. i've always had a Facebook bookmark on the phone, so if i want to go on FB i jusr use that. i alao didnt wany my phone beepinfg everytime i got a FB message/comnent! i alsoso didnt want type of notification showing on my phone...such as say a number 4 on the FB icon to say 4 thinga have happened. switched.my phone off & on works sometimes, but sometimes it doesnt. in that case either hrs or even upto 2 days later it suddenly goes back to normal of its own accord! however visiting any ither websites are always normal. does anyone know whats going on? would finding an FB app solve the problem?FB and other sites adjust the display to fit your device. The details of how this is done are beyond my knowledge. This link gives a overview of what web writers have to do to make it possible. Mobile Responsive Design Mobile response is not a built-in feature of HTML. Or, to put it another way, it takes some additional something to make it work. If you use the App recommended by FB, the problem should go away. An alternative is to try another browser that is smarter. oh i see. its odd that ive used my FB bookmark & whatever browser my mobile came with for about 18 months with no problems & i suddenly need a different browser or the FB app! btw what browser should i try? Here is a list: 10 Best Mobile Browsers Quote With the boom in mobile computing, people are looking for better ways to surf the Internet. While the default browsers that ship with Android and iOS devices (Chrome and Safari) are already quite good, there are many other browsers that providing more distinct features to demanding users. Want to make the most out of your touchscreen? Check out Dolphin. Need to make the most out of limited data? Try Opera Mini. Flash compatibility, add-ons and other features are out there, if you know where to look. Here are 10 of our favorite mobile browsers.Does that help? thankyou. i just found i can get onto FB if i use this... https://mbasic.facebook.com is that a genuine/safe way of going on FB? is it still owned by FB but just a basic layout version? That is safe but I'd still recommend using the app - Facebook will put way more time into that than they will into their mobile sites which are barely used. There should be somewhere to disable notifications in the app if that bothers you.Quote from: camerongray on June 21, 2015, 04:03:13 PM That is safe but I'd still recommend using the app - Facebook will put way more time into that than they will into their mobile sites which are barely used. There should be somewhere to disable notifications in the app if that bothers you. how do i find the FB apo i need? i've only got Galaxy Apps on my mobile. when i search "facebook" there's a long list of FB apps! btw i found this page that mentions what mbasic.facebook.com is in Tip #1... http://www.sociobits.org/2015/01/facebook-tweaks-and http://www.sociobits.org/2015/01/facebook-tweaks-and-tricks/ -tricks/Does it not also have the GOOGLE Play Store anywhere? The official Facebook app will probably have some sort of icon denoting it being official. Also look for the most popular one and check reviews within the store. Mobile websites like Facebook's are only designed for people using extremely outdated devices, not Android smartphones where the app is available. As such they are not actively updated and don't have nearly as many features as the actual app does. |

Solve : Running electronics off a generator? |
Answer» Hello to All. This is my first post. This nagging "power quality problem" had nothing to do with power quality. Why? With the information provided by a power disturbance ANALYZER, the engineers determined the following vital information:He goes on to mention the 'failures' in a power system came for devices other than the generators. It was not 'dirty power', but another thing that made the power drop. There are far too many cases of where somebody blames the generator for bad power. Quote a) Can computers run safely off of dirty electricity from a generator if you have a Line-Interactive UPS system that has an AVR that will adjust for small line fluctuations and surge protection? I understand the current will not be a pure sine wave, Biggest thing with a generator for your home is to make sure you have the proper switchgear to isolate your generator from the utility pole. I have to be really careful here about what i say because I dont want to list any methods people have used to power their home (backfeeding) their breaker box which can at all be suggestive. Do you have a professionally installed generator? or just one of those portable gasoline ones like I have. I live in an area of New England that loses power frequently. I have a Champion 6500 watt portable 120/240VAV with 7.7 gallon gas tank with a run time of about 11 hours on a full tank of gas. I have learned with my generator that the standard off the shelf battery backups DO NOT LIKE being powered off of a generator. I even borrowed my brothers generator in which he has a better Honda brand generator and the battery backups in my home acted the same. They click about once click every second as it switches back and forth between passive mode sending the power to devices powered through it and then correcting for dirty sine wave in which it uses the battery. The last time we lost power for 7 hours and I had the generator going, the battery backup kept clicking as it was switching back and forth from passive to active power to the devices plugged into it. After about 4 hours the lead acid battery went dead in the 750VA battery backup as for all that compensating drained the sealed lead acid battery. The same battery backup without generator would keep all the same stuff going for about 20 minutes just off the battery only. So the problem with standard battery backups are that the use of the battery to COMPENSATE uses more power than is able to be stored back to the battery during the charge cycle when it switches back to passive. You really should have a OnLine UPS Double-Conversion type as the solution. Bare minimum protection from a generator is to have a surge protected power strip to protect from any spikes. Laptops are safer with generator power as for the power supply that CHARGES the laptop battery has pretty good filtration as well as any dips the laptop battery if a healthy battery will keep the computer going without any problems. Desktop computers however really should be powered through the more expensive OnLine UPS Double-Conversion type. I also have 12V Lead Acid Car Batteries and a 1000 watt inverter. I have been able to use a desktop computer drawing 165 watts for 2 hours on a 750 CCA battery that was recently charged. However during an outage its best to just use one of my laptops. The other benefit of laptop is that when the car battery dies I can swap out the car batteries to the next freshly charged battery and just keep going without having to shutdown the computer, while a desktop computer needs to be shutdown between each battery swap. I like using the car batteries if I need electric and need to be quiet. I have 2 truck batteries and a smaller battery from a Honda Civic that I use for silent power with my 1000 watt inverter. Thanks for the Reply: My generator is a mobile 6500 watts (running) - as yours, and hooks to a transfer switch at the metre. I don't know your UPS type (sounds like Line-InterActive). I understand that the AVR can handle moderate fluctuations without engaging the battery, but wider voltage variances require battery assistance. Almost certain my generator would cause the same thing as yours. And what you're describing is exactly what I'm trying to avoid, so thanks for sharing your experience. Some here have recommended an inverter generator and that would be probably the best if money was no object, but I think by the nature of a motor supplying various equipment, you would still need some protection from fluctuations as other power draws in the house come into play. So some kind of regulation would be required, or at the very least, a Surge Arrest bar (IMO better than Surge Protection). That's why an OnLine system does seem the best solution. I thought of inverters but I believe that's really for running off batteries and not for my application. Stove Power Specs: Rated current during ignition A3.0 (Start up Amps) Maximum power input during ignition W330 (Start up Watts) Maximum power input at work W102 (running Watts) So I'm looking at a small UPS OnLine system of 650W (5.8A). I'll have to verify that this is adequate but the specs indicate it is double the Wattage/Amperage I need. Cheers Quote from: DaveLembke on December 09, 2016, 04:22:49 PM While doing a search, found this: Two Generators Together. Hard to believe: I used to tell people that this is impossible. But now they really sell generators made to work together. This has some advantages. Think about it. INTERESTING but pricey. Looks like it has an 80cc motor to power them. Here is my 1000 Watt Inverter ... cost me $79.99 from Sears online on sale about 2 years ago. https://www.amazon.com/Cobra-CPI1000-1000W-Power-Inverter/dp/B00126AR40 Works great for as long as you have a 12VDC source with lots of Amps to pull from. As for 1 Amp of draw at 120VAC is pulling 10 Amps at 12VDC + the power conversion waste which brings it higher than 10 Amps through heat loss etc. Before i owned a generator when I had power outages, I had a 750 watt Black & Decker inverter tapped off of a idling car in driveway with long heavy duty extension cord into kitchen window to run computer at about 200 watts, 7 watt cordless telephone, a 13 watt lamp, 12 watt cable modem, 13 watt 8 port switch, and 72 watt flatscreen TV, plus a 90 watt box fan if its summer. Costly power at the gasoline cost of a idlng Toyota Tacoma Pickup Truck. Fortunately I might have only had to burn a couple gallons of gasoline when gas was almost $4 a gallon. An actual generator would have made more electricity for lesser gasoline consumption. * I still have the 750 watt inverter so I could make up to 1000 + 750 watts continuous quietly for as long as the batteries last, but not greater than a 1000 watt draw because they are not teamed so up to 1000 watts on the one and up to 750 watts on the other with important stuff like refrigerator and lighting. |

Solve : Understanding Self-Healing Storage? |
Answer» This is a rec emendation to read an article about this topic. The primary objective of DATA storage systems is to persist data PERMANENTLY (or at least until specifically destroyed). But hardware is imperfect, disks fail, servers crash, which leads to inconsistencies in the file-system metadata. The traditional ways to deal with errors require the system to go offline – not a PLEASANT scenario.Recommended reading. |

Solve : TV to Computer? |
Answer» Hello, I'm wondering if there is a method to watch your TV from your computer. I have Cable connected and i also have my house with a LAN. I have a computer upstairs and would like to be able to watch TV. Any ideas? What you want TAKES more equipment. The cost may be more that the cost of a TV receiver. A few years ago TV tuners were made for Computers. But these are not compatible with newer cable services. The DTV (an abbreviation of digital television, also called digital broadcast) transition in the United States is the switchover from analog (the traditional method of transmitting television signals) to exclusively digital broadcasting of free over-the-air television programming. The transition from analog to digital television has been described by David Rehr, then president and CEO of the National Association of Broadcasters, as representing "the most significant advancement of television technology since color TV was INTRODUCED."[1] For full-power TV stations, the transition went into effect on Friday, June 12, 2009, with stations ending regular programming on their analog signals no later than 11:59 pm local time that day.[2]But in a number of areas standard analog TV was still the main stay. After awgukem these exceptions went off the air. The TV tuners used for PCs a few years ago were analog, not digital. Thus the devices were made worthless by the new standard. Quote The TV tuners used for PCs a few years ago were analog, not digital. Thus the devices were made worthless by the new standard. A analog tuner card in the PC set to say Channel 3 paired with a cable box which would take a digital stream and output a analog output over coax or RCA cables is the only way I can see it working ..."legally speaking". I tried this out and it worked well on a Toshiba Qosmio CORE Duo 1.83Ghz that came with a TV Tuner Card built into it about 2 years ago before I gutted the laptop for useful parts for other healthier computers when the GeForce 7300 Go GPU started to die on board causing lines to slowly appear and everntually get worse as it heated up. Laptop was this one here that was given to me by a coworker whos wife upgraded to a better laptop for graphic arts. It was a nice free laptop until the GPU started to die. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834114207just connect with cable its very easy. |

Solve : Gaming Computer Upgraded Problems? |
Answer» I had updated my computer that I use for just gaming. It was a Pentium 4 and was told that I should and needed to make it a AM3+ When I attempt too play Skyrim it lag's but, FEEL that it's my video card which, is a ATI Radeon X1300How did you put an AMD CPU on an intel MBoard ? ?...or are you talking about the vid card you BOUGHT ? ?If you updated to a AM3+ motherboard/CPU and are still using a X1300, then that is the problem for running Skyrim, since it's a budget card released a decade ago. Did you actually upgrade anything or it it still a P4? The entire machine is totally out of date and not worth upgrading, replacing it is the only reasonable option. That is basically, what I was told too do. They said that it should run with the video card I had in it. For gaming your CPU and GPU are both equally underpowered. Your card is far too OLD and will perform worse than the integrated graphics in most modern systems! My advice would be to totally forget your P4 machine and focus on getting a new one, there is going to be basically nothing in a machine of that age that I would advise being put into a new system. |

Solve : What does "zilla" mean?? |
Answer» I was reading the chat forum topics today for a good laugh, and I saw the name ChatZilla referring to an IRC application. I use FileZilla every day on my job. And there's MOZILLA. What does Zilla mean? I looked up wikipedia's definition for it and another free online dictionary's definition, and I still don't get it. I've been waiting for an end user of the system to ask me what is FileZilla, and I would respond "that is software which was developed by the son of Godzilla".Nominee for quote of the month. I don't think you'll find an actual definition of "Zilla" but it's basically a reference to the movie monster Godzilla and in common use means "monstrous" or something to that effect. FileZilla would basically mean a monstrous FTP server while ChatZilla would be a monstrous IRC client. Back in the 70's there was an audio manufacturer NAMED GAS (Great American Sound). They produced 3 amplifiers "Ampzilla", "Son of Ampzilla" and "Grandson of Ampzilla". I personally owned the "Son of Ampzilla" and can vouch for the FACT that it was a monstrous amp.Well, if you really need to know, it goes from Japanese. Quote Did you know how Gojira (Godzilla in Japanese) was named? According to Eiji Tsuburaya, the creator of Godzilla: "At the time, there was a tough- LOOKING guy working on the Toho lot. His nickname was `Gojira'. We just adopted it for our monster. It caught on and certainly has immortalized him!"The FORM 'zilla' is a womanizing Japanese words that end in 'jira' Son of Ampzilla?! I can hear Ampzilla asking his son, "What you up to, son?" And he says, "15 amps."Sorry Strollin. I forgot to send thanks to you earlier. The form 'zilla' is a womanizing Japanese words that end in 'jira' |

Solve : How to sample IT?? |
Answer» As it's my first post here - Welcome! If I had to give one piece of advice - Do not start on C++, it is often taught as a first language but this is a really bad idea, it is very too complicated and relies on deep knowledge of how the computer is working at a very low level to do anything decent with it. As a first language you should start with something simple such as Python which handles all the low level details for you. Once you are comfortable with that you can then move onto something like C++. I agree with that C++ isn't the best first exposure to programming. There is A LOT to C++ and there are so many ways that you can run into problems as well as its not for mobile devices. I leaned years ago on Basic and then moved my way from that to QBasic and then C and then C++ and it helped greatly by having had the prior languages to work with to understand structure and reuse of objects etc. As well as I had to BREAK myself of habits that I had with the other languages that make a programmer of C++ cringe and demand that certain functions such as GOTO be removed from C++ etc. Python is probably the best choice for an intro language which will be beneficial to you, and you can start programming in it without having to spend any money and use your skills to continue to write programs in Python and possibly be hired as a Python programmer if you master it. When it comes to scripted languages I actually started off with Perl and then started playing with Python. And looking back if I had a choice and knew what i know now, I would have gone with Python as for I have run into situations where Python was better than Perl, especially when it comes to programming for Linux platform systems which Python is well geared for. I was curious as to if there were any info on Python programming for mobile devices and found the following link. But before you dive head first into this link, I would install Python to a computer and start with the very basics such as your first program displaying Hello World to the command shell. Then work your way up to user input and variables, then Logic for the program to perform a different routine based on the user input, and then work your way into loops, and then arrays, and then onwards towards more complex concepts. http://www.media.mit.edu/ventures/EPROM/python.html https://www.python.org/about/gettingstarted/ Each mobile platform has its mainly supported language - On iOS it's Swift or Objective-C, on Android it's Java and on Windows it's C# or Visual Basic. Sure there are systems that allow other languages but I'd avoid them and stick with the native stuff for the best result. I'd learn Python on a PC for now, this will teach you the basic concepts of programming and once you are good enough at that then picking up another language (e.g. Java for Android development) will be a much easier process. Also, don't think that Python is just a good language for learning, while it may not be the fastest language ever, it's still extremely useful for building anything from small scripts up to large scale systems. For example, Reddit is built in Python.Learn Python. It is worth the effort. |

Solve : St Louis seems to be getting pounded tonight? |
Answer» Decided to see what was going on here. St. Louis is GETTING targeted the most for some reason. The St. Louis Business Journal reports the tech start-up was FOUNDED in 2010 to develop technology to alter the way companies and governments battle cyber crooks. It was founded by a Saint Louis University Graduate and a former Accenture CONSULTANT. The business is now based in San Mateo, CA.This may be a false alarm. |

Solve : Trying to Connect tv to computer?? |
Answer» Hi I am new here and I hooked up a tv that my mom had been using in the very same way as a monitor and television. we bought a bigger tv for my mom and I took the other tv to put into my room for same thing. When I hooked it up it looks terrible I can barely read stuff on it. It worked perfectly on my mom's computer and I do have another tv smaller to my computer that works perfect but the other one just looks grainy and just not good visual. I went thru and did all the contrast and stuff but it still looks crappy. what COULD be the problem? I am at my WITS END. How are you connected VGA, HDMI or S-Video? |
