i recently got some images off another web site to use for mine.  The pictures are a little small and of bad quality.  So i WENT to clean them up and RESIZE them.  When i resize, the quality gets even worse.  When i try to clear up the pic using the sharper/blur method, the pic gets blurry so it is no good really.  i cant find the pic in JPEG mode, so how can i increase the quality and size of the image so it LOOKS as good as a JPEG image?  THANKS in advanceJamie.....Unfortunately there is little you can do . When you attempt to resize ( go larger the quality becomes even worse) . Sometimes using the sharpen feature will help some , but again it depends on the resolution of the original.

The sound on my computer system suddenly stopped working.  I cannot HEAR anything when I plug headphones directly into my CPU, so it is an internal problem.  I checked devise manager and sound programming but nothing is wrong.  EVERYTHING looks to be working.  Any suggestions.

I have Gateway Pentium IV, SOUNDBLASTER card, Windows XP, DSL.

I download a lot of sound and video off of the internet.  Usually play through Windows Media Player, but I recently downloaded MusicMatchBox system to CHECK it out.  It worked ok for the first few days.  I just have no idea why my sound would suddenly quit.  

Help is greatly appreciated.The CPU is an abbreviation for the Central Processing Unit. Soundcard or PC would be a better term.

What WOULD cause a CD to explode inside a CD drive, and how do I get all the little pieces out once it happened. I have had my computer upside down shaking it, but I still can't seem to get everything out. The CD tray is stuck open too. it CLOSES, but then opens immediately AFTERWARDS. They have a reputation to keep up. I seriously doubt they would give out DODGY CD's without either recalling them or switching distributors. (I believe that is how those companies are called?)

 Im praying someone here can rectify my problem. Last week i offered to remove the viruses my fathers comp had become riddled with, which i did with no problem. Once i did this i tried to go online with a penny a min dial up number but each time i got an error 777 MESSAGE. I went into device MANAGER and checked the modem and all was good,( i did notice he had no driver for the ethernet controller and sm bus controller but i believe i dont actually need this for a dial up.) I checked the phone line, cables, etc and all was ok, so completely baffled and DESPERATE to sort it, i resorted to reformatting (after backing up files) and re installing xp, I then added the dial up, clicked on connect and....got the *censored* error 777 message again!!! Arrgh!!  

 I just cant think what else could cause this.
Any help will be soooo APPRECIATED... i feel LIKE im going crazy!!

Can anyone give me some advice here.  I have two MACHINES RUNNING W2K Pro.  One machine...while USING Yahoo Messenger, and attempting to access camera source in prefrences, as soon as you click it the system reboots.  The other, when you go to start AOL...same thing, the system reboots.  It's like you hit the reset button on the front of the machines.

On both machines, I am using all the latest updates, security patches, driver updates ect.  I have been that route.  I have tried un-installing and re-installing the applications, even formatting and re-installing the OS.

Any ideas on whats up?

you say you reformatted & reinstalled the OS.  did you REPARTITION the drives as well.  i've had occasion that reformatting didn't do the trick but repartitioning did.

I have Windows98.  I tried running WinnowCleaner and now Windows will not start.  I tried a start up disk, did the sys C: which transferred. I restarted and the windows picture showed but WENT into the c: prompt.

You can use a text editor to edit the above line in your msdos.sys file.
Run the COMMAND "Scanreg.exe /restore" this file is existed in Windows\command
Command "Scanreg /restore" help you to restore your Windows registry.
The Syntax like below
C:\scanreg /restore
then CHOOSE the registry backup file base on the day it created and then ok.....

1b) In Word, create a form that looks like you want to purchase some product (Product Name, SKU, QUANTITY, Cost).
1c) You get to make up any name for your company.

Today my computer began changing file extensions on its own. I use Netscape as my browser, but all the programs in the start up COLUMN on the left of the screen suddenly began showing the IE icon, with a file name ending with ".LNK" Any program icon I move to the desktop has the change as well. For EXAMPLE, I had a few installation icons on my desktop today, but the names had all changed to ".EXE.LNK" extensions. CLICKING on them opens the download manager.
 I ran a virus scan and can find nothing. I've never seen this kind of thing before. Even my icons I'd moved to the BOTTOM left toolbar suddenly appeared with the IE icon. I've used Netscape for some time now and have never experienced anything like this.
.lnk is the extension for links, like shortcuts and favorites.

Is there a dos command or a switch on EITHER the 'copy' or 'xcopy' command that will allow you to copy FILES with use of a wildcard, but EXCLUDE any files which have a file size of 0kb?

When i turn on my computer it stops at a message saying "verifying dmi pool data...." and will not load up any further.  i have tried several different tasks to try and fix this including clearing the cache, resetting bios to defaults, clearing the CMOS, updating my bios with an awd flash installer from the mainboard manufacturer as well as using fdisk on the mbr.  Does anyone have any other solutions short of reformatting my hard drive and losing EVERYTHING?Jon.....I think that message indicates you may have a hardware issue or PROBLEM....have you added or deleted any hardware recently. You could try to configure your hard disk(s) in the BIOS. Set it from Auto to LBA, LARGE or CHA

I think I have deleted some very important files because when I turn on my computer (Win XP Home), there is this window that says "Error loading C:\Program Files\WildTangent\Apps\CDA\cdaEngine0400.dll    The specified module could not be found" What do I do to FIX this? I have a .mpg file that wont let me delete it. If I EVEN try to highlite the file it freezes explorer. I have taken everything out of the folder except said .mpg file and tried to delete the whole folder. It tells me that it can't delete it because another program is using it. I have closed all processes and turned off everything except my SYSTEM processes and explorer and it still gives me this ERROR. I have booted my computer in safe mode and it still wont let me delete it. If my curser even goes across the file, it partially freezes explorer. (won't let me get the properties of other FILES until i close the whole  folder in task manager.
I started out with 5 - 1 mg  .mpg files that I joined together with EZ Video Joiner. I now had a 5  mg  .mpg file that workes fine. When I deleted the 5 parts  one of those 5  files wouldn't let me delete it.    Now it has become a pain-in-the-*censored*(excuse my french   LOL ).

Is there a way I can delete this file from my  dos command prompt? Or some other way?  I really don't know much about dos and command prompts & pathes so I'm asking for some help.

(Also, after I close the folder in my task manager that is freezing explorer; I lose half of the icons in my sys tray until I re-boot my system. I have run my norton anti-virus & Tauscan anti-trojan programs & Spybot. It is not detected by any of those. )Theres a free program called eraser install it & then drag the folder to it. That should get rid of itAre you sure it's a mpg and not an avi?

DebCheck to SEE if a CD or floppy disk came with your computer/video card.  Use that to re-install your original driver.  Once you get that installed, go to hardware manager, right click on the video card and go to the properties item.  From there you should see a button to click to "Update Driver".  If you can't find/don't have the disk, find out who manufactured the video card (can ususally find out by going to the hardware manager) and look them up on the INTERNET.  From there you should be able to MAKE your way to a download/support area.  You might even try calling them up if they have a toll-free number.  Good luck Debbie......Have you tried going to Microsoft update page......

What kind of memory are you talking about?  Hard drive space or ram.

If you mean ram, are you sure your it is working properly?

Have you checked for viruses or spy/adware that could be taking up your system resources?

Maybe you could LET us know what some of your 'wierd' errors are and what you're doing when it locks up.operating system is win 98.

What resolution did you try scanning?  If it's too large the system will crap out.  Does this happen after a reboot and no scanning (in other words.. if you reboot and just do normal stuff, does it CONTINUE to happen)

Try going into your system settings (control panel - system) what's it say you have for ram?

when u want to copy form the net, you need to highlight the text/picture with your mouse, then ctl c or right CLICK and copy.
only when u can see "copy" after u highlight and right click, then you can paste.

When I open an e-MAIL or other messages and try to go to link or open anything inside nothing happens. It appears its trying as you can`t do anything else for about 20-30 SECONDS. If a site send me something and it contains other links--I click on the link and I don`t get the box that SHOWS its trying to go there---but it appears its trying.  What can I do to correct this? I have went to internet explorer and clicked on properties and reset to default. I use satallite INTERENT and have windows xp and a HP pavilion xt953. Any help would be appreciated. Thank You.racker.....Have you opened up Outlook express and then gone to "Tools" and then select options and check all the settings . Why are you looking in "Explorer" settings if the problem is with Outlook express ?
You have "Outlook" on you machine as well .....which one is SET as your default mail service ?
Are you able to send links ok........?
In your Internet Explorer are you able to click on the links and they will open ok ?

Thank you for your help. Now to answer some more questions. I am not sure which is my mail defaut service. I was told to reset the Internet Explorer. I use Outlook Express as my main e-mail. I am not sure what the correct settings should be!

When I check my mail and try to go to a link or log onto another site from inside that e-mail--it trys to but nothing happens for about 20 seconds and you cannot do anything or go anywhere else. If you click on anything else--it will go to that command after it has tried to go to the link you first clicked on.  I have mail that has other sires to log onto from inside them. I use to be able to go there but something has changed. Please help me if you can to get me back to normal.

Do I need to take Internet Explorer out of default--how do I do that and get Outlook Express as default?

[email protected]Check your firewall is not blocking Internet Explorer.I cannot open anything from inside an e-mail at all in Outlook Express. This problem just occured in the last couple of weeks. It appears to try to go to the site but nothing happens. If there is a link, or a click here, or anything that will get you to go somewhere else from inside the e-mail---I cannot access it. There has to be a setting that has gotten checked, or something has gone wrong somewhere. If anyone has any idea--please send me an [email protected]

Ok, my computer is totally messed up. But I know I could fix it if only the option windows would stay up. in another folder called NOTES??is it possible for the

path to remain as it is??...meaning that wherever the

XLS folder is,the *.xls file will be surely

extracted to it...and so on for all the other files???

It depends on the forum lay out, but you should look for a BUTTON 'create thread' or 'new thread'. Names MAY vary.

:-/ One of my favorite sites, which I will not mention out of modesty, has changed. I type site name in address bar and TGP Hot Porn comes up instead. I have used search engines and try to enter site from there and TGP Hot Porn comes up. I tried linking from another site and Hot Porn TGP comes up. Has my old favorite been taken over by TGP Hot Porn or what?  I am definately puzzled and CONFUSED. Can anyone possibly give me some clues? I will leave with a hint to the site, RMCT.com, maybe this will ring a bell to someone out there. Thanks!!!!!
rebeleye rebeleye....Has your main homepage been changed to the porn site.....If it has there is a very good chance you have the Dreaded browser hijacker. What operating system are you using and are you able to set your home page back to where it was.....
Don't attempt to use system restore until you are certain that your PC isnt infected . What kind of anti virus are you running and do you have Ad-Aware and SpyBot INSTALLED ?
Perhaps you would do better to continue the discussion in Viruses and spyware!

I am running windows 98 se and internet explorer 6.0. I have spybot, SPYWAREBLASTER and ad-aware all installed. I ran all 3 when my problem started and a hijacker was detected and quarantined. My homepage has never changed from yahoo.com. I ran another scan with all 3, 10 minutes ago, and all that was detected was 2 tracking cookies which I REMOVED. I also ran norton virus scan and nothing was detected.Thanks for your advice, keep it coming. Merlin, where are you?

Hey Everyone,

Here's what HAPPENED. I was online, then CLOSED out the window and my computer froze. So naturally I hit ctrl/alt/delete keys and nothing happened. So I hit it again about 3 more times and my computer restarts, only it instead of restarting normally, I get 1 LONG beep and 2 short beeps and my computer doesn't come on. So after a little research it looks like I'm not passing the POST, and it may have something to do with a video component? How do I get PAST this?!? Any help would be appreciated.

Robert .....1 long and 2 short beeps would indicate a vid problem.....try uninstalling your vid card .......remove it from MOTHER board and then replace it and its drivers as well ( make sure the power is off when you remove the card and you be sure to touch a unpainted part of the case to remove the possiblity of a static spike.)

dl65  I will give it a try. So just remove the card, replace it, and then my computer should come on and I can re-install the drivers correct? (I'm not much of a computer wiz unfortunatly). Get back to me plz!!! I appreciate the help.
robert ......yes just go ahead and remover the card......and reboot.....it shouldnt come up .......then shut down ......plug the card back in ( make sure its seated properly ) and startup again .......
One more thing ....do you have a good updated anti virus program installed ?

I donot know if there is a free TRIAL, but it is very good software.

It can create screenshots, movies and measure your FPS.

Most 3D games offer their own FPS counter, usually accesible by TYPING a certain command inside the console. Look for these COMMANDS on the INTERNET.

lately when my computer is booting up it appears that a PROGRAM  "matcli " is loading. it only shows up for a few seconds and then diappears and I cant find it anywhere on the computer. Has anyone ever heard of anything LIKE this. ???I am trying to upload a photo on a website, however I am getting a message that my FILE is to large.The site has a size limit of 195b, but the size of my files are 25.2kb 35.1kb and 33.5kb. I dont think I can zip the files as the site only accepts jpg or gif files.I dont know of anyother way to make the files smaller or how to get AROUND this problem. Any help would be appreciated.Brian....looks to me as if you have 3 files ( pics) to up LOAD.....have you tried UPLOADING one at a time .......and if you dont mind me asking what site are you trying to upload to and what file format are you using ?
The other thing that jumps out at me is if their limit is 195bytes ....all of yours exceed that.

dl65  I have tried uploading one at a time.As embarrassing as it sounds it is a dating service.And Im using jpg files.I have emailed their webmaster and have yet to RECIEVE a responce.

I hope this is not a dead issue..
but can anyone tell me how rid myself of the trojan HORSE virus? I use 'virus' for lack of better term. I am using windows 98 with AVG anti-virus FREE edition, I have run the virus scan several times and isolated the bad files, but I can't kill the beast... If anyone here has any INFO or suggesttions let me know and I will go into deeper detail if needed...

Just wanted to say HAPPY FATHERS day! to all you dads.  Your kids are why you spend hours each day trudging to work, sitting in your cubicle or driving truck or standing on the line in the factory.
