HOU MANY SESSIONS NETBEUI SUPPORTS ON WINDOW 2000?

Will keeping a CELL phone or phone in GENERAL near a monitor cause it to become distorted or blurry sometimes.....actually only just before and sometimes during a callMixed Signals...I use a phone at my monitor all the time and have NEVER had any problems.......I can tell you that if you have a DSL connection that all phones on the system require a filter to eliminate problems. Can't comment on a cell phone.

When done, close ALL browser windows, including this one. Install and run HijackThis. When done, it will show a log. At the bottom of the screen, click SAVE Log (do NOT click Fix yet....just save the log). When it finishes (almost instant), it will leave a notepad WINDOW with that log in it. Highlight the entire log (it is a long one), copy, then come back here (to this same thread) and paste that log into a post here in this thread. Then, maybe we can find out what's GOING on.

I've got windows XP, and NEARLY all my programs need 32 bit COLOUR. However, I have also a program that won't run on anything other than 16 bit. Is there a way to GET a batch file to change the colour depth to 16 bit, then back to 32 bit?

I  having a problem with my system. It stopped working  acted like my power supply died. Bought new power supply still not working, Installed new mother board not working. Retested power supply and installed still not working. Thinking possibly the processor is causing issue?? I order new 2.8GB proc to see if this is the problem..
Does anyone have any ideas?

Does the fan in the power supply turn?When connected to the board. It doesn't do anything.
I can multi-meter the power supply and it shows it is good. This is a 500 W power supply that I just put in it. I even tested my old Power supply and it shows good but I thought I would put something a little more beefy in there. The original was a 420 W power supply.

I can cross the pins to test and the fan kicks on.Sorry to say,  I don't have an answer to this one. I had a similar problem a few years back, but replacing the motherboard turned out to be the answer for me. I don't KNOW for sure but I wouldn't think that the processor could be at fault.  I'll leave this one to the more experienced pc gurus that frequent this site.  Same thing happened to  my system 2 WEEKS ago.....

Gabby65......what were you doing when it stopped working.....? your power supply....how did you test it .....power it up and meter the output or was it still plugged into the board? If it tested ok when not connected to the board and nothing when connected to the board....check to see if the on / off button on the front of the CASE is working or if there's a reset button on the front that its not sticking open or the PLUGS on the wires COMING from the front on/off switch or reset button are properly connected on the motherboard.
You may have had the case open and dislodged these little plugs. That would certainly cause the symtoms you describe. The good news is now you have a spare poer supply and a spare motherboard.........LOL

i don't know much about computers, but i took my comp in for repair. to re-install windows95. my son had already partioned my COMPUTER for safety REASONS, but the store i took it to lost d drive and all saved material on it. they SAID this was unavoidable. i disagree. am i right.I find it hard to believe that it was unnavoidable, however the sad fact is that they are propbably not liable for any loss of data.if you think the store is not liable for lost data, wouldn't you think they would have BACKED up all info on drives as a safety precaution. if they did this, then it would have been unavoidable.maybe the solution is always back up your data to a spare hard-drive or DISKS.

Hi all, I hope you can help!
I have an older system that is having some issues.  I am RUNNING Win 95,and I am unable to change the number of colors the display runs in.  I get a message that says I should change the display to 256 but,  in the drop down menu I have 2 choices 16 bit or monochrome.  It used to say 256 colors as well but no longer does.  I have all of the original software disks and have tried to run them in order to restore what I have undone (somehow) in error.
I CANT even reinstall Microsoft Works & Money at this POINT (thats the program I need!)

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION

Our site was working fine and acting as expected

We rebooted for maintenance and got error message indicating software or
hardware failure. Previous to error message and on blue background there was
a screen with a specific error which flashed to quick. To try and read the
contents rebooted several times until it stopped showing anything.

The screen remains blank with only a flash of the first 5 lines of the
regular boot up.

The INDICATIONS are that the BIOS has been corrupted.

We have followed the PROCEDURE described on Intel online document  "Server
System PRODUCT Guide SC450NX MP" page 151-153

However we are stuck in that we do not have the System Setup Utility (SSU)
and the Graphical USER Interface we need as indicated in page 46 of the same
Guide.

We might be barking up the wrong tree and this is not the solution to the

accessibility to solve any other problem.

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

** If somebody has the CD please zip and email the needed "System Set Up"
utility and the Flash Memory

** If somebody can burn a CD and send me a copy I will pay for the cost.

plz help my computer is is giving off wierd  SOUND bytes heres three that ive heard so far a wierd beep sound, computer will yell CONFUSED, and now my computer starts making this LOW pitched laughing sound plz helpAwhile ago I know of some people who had a similar problem.  The newest version of AIM allows users to play sounds when they sign on and off. If you are using AIM, this can be fixed by going under My AIM > edit options > edit preferences > AIM Expressions, then clicking buddy list sounds. It is probably set to allow OTHERS sounds, you can change it to no sounds, or only the opening and closing door.

If that is not the problem, you should run a virus scan with your anti-virus program. If you don't have an AV program, you can get Avast Anti-Virus free here:

Another good program to have and run regularly is AdAware (from Lavasoft). I run it nearly every time I go offline to get rid of spyware/adware/malware....really helps to keep the system clean. You can get it here (free):

If you do decide to download AdAware, the first thing to do is let it "Check For Updates," to make SURE all is current. Then, if you need some help configuring it, post back, and I'll let you know how to do that.

I GENERALLY leave my computer on 24/7. Lately some program is connecting my computer to the internet when no-one is even on the computer... It tries to do this three or four times a day. It is an old DIAL up so you hear it just plain as day, dialing up.
I have winxp - any help WOULD be appreciated.

Im trying to help a NEIGHBOR with Win98 display & I haven't used W98 for yrs. The kids adjusted the display too large & I cant access the control panel display SETTINGS because they are below the bottom of the screen. How do I RESET to default settings. I know there is a way.....just can't remember ittop task bar/view/TEXT size okundvetern....when you say display, do you mean text size or do you mean screen size ( resolution) ie 600 * 800 to say 1152 * 864. If you wish to change the screen resolution go to control panel .....then select display and go to the settings tab and change to the desired setting .....then click apply and ok .
The other thing the kids may have done is adjust the screen size on the MONITOR ....in which case use the controls on the front of the monitor to adjust the size to what you want .

hello forum: I had AOL free trial-offered to upgrade me to IE 6.0-I downloaded it thru AOL-now AOL logo is everywhere when I use IE on my Netzero ISP-can I get back to using IE without all the AOL trimmings?-is it slowing me down thru AOL? Unfortunately AOL is bad for that.....I had a situation about a yer or so ago ,where I received a cd from our bank .....like a fool I dropped it in the cd tray and carried on working ......It took over my puter......changed everything.......I spent hours trying to purge it. It was all through the REGISTRY , changed my dial up accounts , in short took over. I finally got fed up and reformatted my machine......that fixed it .......I steer clear of AOL.....Thats why there is an ongoing class action suit against them at the present ( I believe) If your patient , you may be able to manually purge it but the quickest and easiest would be to reformat.
I feel sorry for you.......been there done that

Whatever, I got the machine for peanuts and put in extended memory(163mb)for $25.00 got NetZero for $10/month and AOL so far has given me 4 months of 7.0 for nothing.They also offered me full service for $17.00/mo. after the trial period. So I guess I shouldn't complain too much. It's just the idea of the intrusion. And no disclosure up front. Live and learn. Also can I switch to another browser for my NetZero or is IE the only browser that they use?   Thanks Again!You COULD likely use any broser. hi. okay well about a month ago i installed a new internet program. ever since then, my computer has been acting really funny. for example.. at first it wouldn't let me show my active desktop, it would show up as that white screen, you know when you shut down your computer improperly? and when i'd click "restore active desktop" it would freeze. so then eventually i figured out how to turn it off, so my desktop would show up.

but thats not even the biggest of my problems.. well i couldn't click on ANYTHING on my desktop. like icons.. it would just not show up. the only thing i could click on that would work (most of the time, not always) would be what was on my quickstart toolbar thingy. my internet explorer wouldn't show up, i'd have to go on my aol instant messenger, and clikc on 'check mail'. then it would freeze, so i would control+alt+delete and end the explorer, and it would refresh it or whatever. my buddy list would ALWAYS freeze. along with my taskbar. but my desktop wouldn't.

and just yesterday i tried doing what i have been doing, but now when i end my explorer, it freezes altogether. now i can't even get on anything.

oh, i have windows me. for awhile my computer wouldn't defrag, but yesterday i went in safemode and it worked (it took practically all day) but my computer steill won't work. Go to Start - Programs and look in the list. If you have configsafe, start the computer in safe mode and use configsafe to reconfigure at at DATE earlier than when your problems began.i used 2 hav ME and the same thing happened and i cldnt fix it ad got rid of the machine. but u cld try searching http://www.download.com for adaware

net user [user name of person to send message to] [then ur message]

secondly if u STARTUP as safe mode with command prompt u can log on as the administrator. This is cool because if uve forgoten ur password type

When I play anything on my computer, wav, midi or even videos, it palys too fast, sounding like a CHIPMUNK. I have WIn2000 with a AC'97 soundcard. Even the "chimes" are fast. Take a look at your playback speed in Media Player.  Go to View-Enhancements-Play Speed Settings.  Is it all sounds (like GAMES) or just windows sounds.I did as you advised, there is no "Play back speed" in the drop down. At the enhancements window there is show enhancements, the equalizer, media link, srs wow, and video settings. I don't have any games on this computer, but I believe it's all sounds.Can you try a game online or one of the games that comes with Windows?  If your video plays fast as well as sound then it's shouldn't be your audio or video.Do you have a Compaq Deskpro computer with a Pentium III PROCESSOR around 733-933MHz? If so, you need the Soundmax audio drivers. It is the only SOLUTION to your problem. I came ACROSS this at work once. Download the drivers here:

Does anyone know how to connect two computers together? I have some things on a laptop that I would like to transfer to a desktop,and can't for the life of me figure out how to hook them together to transfer the files.I tried the home networking thing,but can't get it to work,or I haven't done it right.Can anyone help me?I was THINKING about just emailing everything to myself & then put it on desktop that way,but that takes too long.Any other SUGGESTIONS?Thanks in advance for all your help.Firstly what operating system are you using on both systems?
I would probably do it with a 'cat 5 UTP crossover cable' assuming both PCs have NETWORK interface cards. Then if you are using windows XP run the network wizard on both PCs. This should easily network the two together.
If you are using windows 98 se/ ME/NT/2K you will probably have to do it using ip addresses.

To do it with IPs
First, right click on 'my computer' on both PCs and CHECK the workgroup is the same, then give each a name (e.g. desktop/laptop)

Then go into the network > TCP-IP options then set the IP on one machine to '192.168.100.1' and the other machines to '192.168.100.2'. The Subnet mask for both will be '255.255.255.0'. You shouldnt need to chnage anything else.

Once you think you have done this, open a command prompt and type 'ping 192.168.100.1' (or whatever the IP of the other machine is) If you get replys it is working if not something is wrong (or a firewall is stopping it).

Assuming everythign is workign right, right click on the folder you want to share and go to properties then the shareing tab. Select the 'share this on the network'  (This is in XP, im unsure about 98 ).

Now go to the other computer and go to the 'my network places icon' click it, then go to the workgroups name and all the PCs on the network will be displayed. Double click the file with the name of the computer you wish to access, in here should be any shared folders.

If you decide ot do it this way il be HAPPY to clarify anything about it for you.

There are other ways of connecting the two PCs together but they would be more complicated (e.g using firewire ports, serial, mabey even a way of diong it via USB)

Before when you tried it did you just use a regualar patch cable or a crossover?If you want high-speed transfer rates go with a USB 2 File Transfer Cableif u can get hold of a usb to usb cable and a copy of laplink it shld b fairly self explanitory. me thinks

hello.  i had a new hard drive installed to replace a bad one last week.  when the custom-built, xp-os pc was returned to me, everything worked properly except... when i now play back mp3's that worked fine earlier on my creative 5.1 system, they have exhibit interference (cracks, pops, skips, cutouts).  this increases the more i move my mouse pointer over software buttons.  if i play back the same song multiple times, they occur in different places each time (and they all played fine prior to the work that was done, so it's not the actual mp3 itself).  it is happening with all playback software and with all mp3's.  in addition, my mouse pointer also seems erratic... jumpy or sticky... as if there are way too many signals being sent at once or something.  i hope someone might be able to help... thanks!What sound CARD are you using?i am using creative audigy soundblaster platinum 5.1 and have used it error-free for 2 1/2 years until now.

it was suggested that i completely delete the soundcard installation, as it may have been corrupted by the new xp service pack they installed to support the 200 gb hard drive, then reinstall.  i'm trying that tonight....yea that should do it. I have the audigy 2 platinum and have found in the past the drivers are somewhat crappy, in terms of reliability.actually, it didn't help.  and... after i uninstalled it and reinstalled, i tested a few songs and found that the same thing was happening with even the legacy audio drivers;  so it's probably nothing to do with the soundcard.  i have also tested a corded mouse instead of my standard logitech mouseman to no avail.Have you tried different mp3 playback software? winamp for example.The PROBLEM is related to chipset latency between the Audigy and motherboard. I have also seen this problem when using Promise IDE expansion cards as well. Could you give a detailed list of the parts in your computer- specifically your motherboard and whether you are using an PCI IDE expansion controller card?thanks for responding.  it's been weeks now and i've tried just about everything, including replacing the memory sticks and reinstalling my os (just yesterday)... to no avail.  interestingly however, win MEDIA player and winamp both play files relatively staticfree... weird.

anyway, (and please bear with me as i am not am IT person) my motherboard (for which i believe the chipset/bios was recently updated by the repair guy) is an ABIT KG7-RAID (although i no longer have my hard drives in a raid array since the new one was installed) and please tell me how i may identify whether or not i have a PCI IDE expansion controller card.  i'm looking in Device Manager and see an HPT370 UDMA/ATA100 RAID controller under "SCSI and RAID Controllers" and i see Primary and Secondary IDE Channels and a VIA Bus Master IDE Controller under "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers", but i'm not sure that's what you need to know.

i've wondered if the RAID controller is somehow (since it is now not necessary) producing the static interference.  but anything you can suggest that i may undertake on my own would be much appreciated.I figured it was a VIA chipset that was involved. VIA chipsets are notorious for causing problems with Creative soundcards. Your motherboard actually has a hybrid chipset, being that the northbridge is using AMD HARDWARE and the southbridge is using VIA. have you any other suggestions?  do you need further info from cpu-z or elsewhere?  thanks so much for your input.Try moving the SB Live one PCI slot down, or try it in several slots. Make sure you're using the latest VIA 4in1 (now CALLED Hyperion) drivers. When you install the VIA drivers, you'll want to install only the IDE driver. And finally, make sure you are using the latest BIOS for your motherboard. This issue was fixed in many motherboards over the course of BIOS and driver updates.well, sir... two days ago, just after writing to you last, i actually tried reloading my os on another hard drive... further down the line from the soundcard.  it worked... !!  and, obviously, your advice would have certainly been well-received had i not have coincidentally thought of it.

On my hard drive, in whatever position the jumper is in it is RECOGNISED as a slave drive. It is a NEW hard drive in an old computer, so it hasnt been used on the computer before. Maybe the jumper is broken in some way maybe?

Does it matter if the hard drive is SET as slave even though there is no master?Try with no jumpers.  There should be a diagram of the settings on the HDD showing which is master.If the drive is a Western Digital or Maxtor and will be running without a slave drive, it is general BEST to put the jumper on the 'cable SELECT' setting.

The only issue you will have is whether your BIOS supports 48bit LBA which is a way for your BIOS to detect harddrives larger than 137GB. If you post your system specs, it may give me an idea of whether your computer supports 48bit LBA. Even if your computer doesn't support it, you can always partition the harddrive into sections smaller than 137GB. So you could MAKE a 135GB partition and a 65GB (approximate sizes, as your drive will not be recognized purely as 200GB but more than likely 190GB or so).

XXXXXXX is always the same - I have 256mb of ram - I have removed each module one at a time - same problem - Defraged the drive, RAN scandisk still does it -

I removed the swap file, shut down, restarted - same THING.

I have a Sony PCG GRZ515G laptop and was wondering if it is at all POSSIBLE to either upgrade the VIDEO card to something more powerfull (it has an ATI Mobility Radeon 7500), or can I ADD more memory.

I have run sys.restore and Reg clean.  also defrag and washer.  Upon booting up I get a almost non-deletable dialogue window searching for "Scan or Fax" The window tells me that it is on a removable disk known as "QUICK Projects"  I do not have that disk and never did.  Everything seems to be working ok but AOL optimizer tells me that there is a conflict problem somewhere and then that same silly dialogue window will come back.  I searched the web for it but to no avail.  I do not want to restore back to months ago and then rebuild, any suggestions?Joe......Why was it necessary to do a SYSTEM restore?

you mentioned "quick projects".........have you ran a SEARCH for any files or folders called that.........including hidden files. What operating system are you using. The other thing is AOL........have you tried running this PAST their techs?    There seems to be a wack of people with AOL problems recently.

My computer's CD-ROM Drive keeps ejecting every time the computer is on. I have tried to check and edit the registery and ran fully virus scans on the system and it has not found a virus. hello all, heres the deal i have a old simcity game on cd rom, i'm trying to load graphics, but the program can only look in the a: drive. what i need to do is make my d: drive turn into the A drive.

now i've tryed the disk managemet to change it that WAY, but the drive letter gos to "E"thur "z"

i can't use "assign command" in dos, does not exsist.
i'm not sure how to use "SUBST".

do i need to change the drive letter in cmos?
if so how?
