Solve : Cheapest place for computer parts?? |
|
Answer» I live in British Columbia, Canada. I'm looking to build a custom built desktop PC, quite possibly even build & sell them. The only two computer hardware stoees I know of in Canada are NCIX and Newegg.ca.NCIX is too pricey, but I could make a profit of about $70-90 per machine (650 dollar PC) by buying from Newegg.ca. Would you say that is a decent profit margin? Quote from: Cityscape on August 31, 2010, 12:28:16 PM NCIX is too pricey, but I could make a profit of about $70-90 per machine (650 dollar PC) by buying from Newegg.ca. Would you say that is a decent profit margin? I'd say 10% is a decent profit.Does your " , but I could make a profit of about $70-90 per machine (650 dollar PC)" include an allowance for your "time" to make it? If it does NOT then your just churning money. If it does include the time element then that is a very low profit margin and not one that is going to make you RICH. If you are serious about this idea then you need to do a LOT more research. If you think that one retail source will satisfy the best procurement option for the parts that go into making a computer you are getting off on the wrong foot. You will need to search out the best suppliers for the various components. You will need to establish all the things that are associated with starting a business to avail yourself of all the advantages that that brings.Unless of course your objective is to only "play" at this. In which case you might want to consider how you are going to deal with the 1st irate buyer of one of your computers when they have a problem with it ? One's ability to continue in business and prosper is very dependent on customer relations and satisfaction. Me thinks you need to give this venture more thought.truenorthCheck out : http://www.tigerdirect.com/sectors/pccomponents/index.asp and see if they compare well. One's ability to continue in business and prosper is very dependent on customer relations and satisfaction. Me thinks you need to give this venture more thought.truenorthRight now I want to build only a few and sell them for a test. But I would like to build them and sell them regularly as a business. If I did it as a business I think I would offer a 1 year warranty on parts. So the customer would return the machine to me and I would contact the manufacturer and get the replacement part, install the part and return it to the customer. We only have one custom built computer shop in town and they have a bad reputation. They actually LIED to my computer tech friend. They are not top of the line, but they are adequate for most people. You will never compete with the big companies on price for basic machines. They can buy parts for half of what you could ever find. What you need to consider is building custom PC's that offer things you don't get from a retail chain like TV tuners, more memory, extra hard drives, etc. You could build custom machines to order, charge your cost on parts plus an hourly rate. Solve : Is this website legit?? |
|
Answer» Has anyone ever used this site before? Domain Name: GIFTS4POINTS.COM They aren't going to be around for long apparently... Sites like this are normally scams. They try to get you to submit some personal data (bank account, credit card info etc.) with promises of some reward but in the end they are just RIPPING off as many people as they can until they get shut down. Stay away! Too good to be true is still a reliable saying even on the Internet. Well, for what it is worth, I have participated in a number of similar sites and despite popular belief, they usually are legit. I have actually heard mostly positive stuff about this particular site and I have no reason to believe that this is a scam. In fact, I signed up earlier and it looks perfectly safe. These sites are normally run by average everyday people, which would explain the Gmail account. Also, the site doesn't ask for any personal information beyond your name and address, as is the case with legitimate sites. These sites either use Paypal, gift cards, or physical prizes, so all they ever need is your contact information. If you are asked for bank information, it is time to leave. Now, with that said...there is a catch. With a site like this, the only person making any REAL money is the site owner. For every thing that earns you money, the owner earns at least TWICE as much. And it may TAKE you up to a month just to earn a $10 gift card for Amazon. So, you have to wonder if it is actually worth the time and effort (although it is worth noting that it takes very little effort). You'll spend a lot of time clicking on ads or signing up for offers you don't need (which can sometimes require money). Of course, the real money is in snagging referrals and that is exactly what Bobby is trying to do. It is a common tactic to go on a random forum and ask if anybody has heard of the site and then post an indirect link. By using TinyURL, he is able to temporarily mask the real URL which contains his referral code (ref=lg342). That is why I have changed the link in the original post...but I am keeping the thread around for the time being so others can see this. So, to summarize: the site is safe and legit, but "Bobby" already knew that because he is just a spammer trying to get referrals. And for anyone who is interested, these earn-points-for-completing-offers sites are at the bottom of the barrel when it comes to earning money online. If you are really that desparate, survey sites are the way to go, as they pay much more money and they often send you free products to try out. Just recently, I was sent two months of toilet paper and shower gel, and they paid me to try them! And this is on top of the $70 I had already earned for the month from 10-minute surveys. Quote Just recently, I was sent two months of toilet paper and shower gel There is a really bad joke hiding in there.... Thanks Chris.Generally, I agree with Chris. Obviously, you have to check what kind of info is required to join the site. In the above case, all they want is your email address, so I don't see it as a big deal. Any website will require it to join. I'm still a member of Memolink (at 12,000 points at the moment), In the past, I was able to get free iPod, thanks to earned points This is referral Spam...Topic Closed. |

Solve : google mail? |

Answer» my google mail wont show for me it has an errorWhat does it say when you try to login? What is the browser are you using? Maybe you can try to open your GMAIL account with other browsers. The error says account temp disabled and to let them send a VERIFICATION code to my mobile phone. Which i never used when I signed up for Gmail. The error says account temp disabled and to let them send a verification code to my mobile phone. Which i never used when I signed up for Gmail.Doesn't this indicate someone may have gotten access to your account and changed the settings to add a mobile phone #. If you didn't do it, how did a mobile # get into your gmail profile? I'd take that as a indication someone else may have gotten your password and has accessed your account. In the future, maybe you need to be more CAREFUL with passwords.yea i think i was hacked. I will just not use gmail anymore and be careful with my password. I don't think it was a gmail problem. Anyone who has gotten email from you knows your username and it's just a matter of either guessing, or seeing your password written down some place. You could just open another gmail account with a different username and password. You could contact gmail, explain the situation, and see if they would forward what's in the in-box, although expect them to be very sceptical. If you have important stuff there it's worth a try.I agree with rthompson 100%...and you should find a new set of friends... Anyone who stoops to that level should be out of your life forever and never trusted again...for anything.my email has been fixed and got a new password.i didnt have to give my mobile phone number to them i just emailed them with a yahoo account i have. it is resolved so i thought to post the outcome i dont know if i was hacked. just make sure you keep your password safe. Should i change my password often?make a complex password that you would remember. a combination of upper and lower case letters with numbers and some symbols like or $ or something else included.thank you |

Solve : Recovery disc?? |
|
Answer» Is there anything on it that is absolutely necessary? My Sony vaio crashed and the hard drive was replaced and I was asked if I had a recovery disc which I don't. But I was wondering if I COULD use this as an opportunity to upgrade to windows 7? Any drivers I might need are on Sonys website so Is there gonna be anything I need on the disc? The recovery disc is just that - a recovery disc. If you want to upgrade to a different OS then the recovery disc would be useless. Just make sure your SYSTEM is W7 compatible. So basically the only thing on the recovery disc is gonna be windows vista and the drivers? There aren't gonna be any other files on it that I would need?I don't know what was on the recovery disc, but if you are upgrading to a different OS there was nothing on it you need.Awesome thanks I figured Sony will probably CHARGE me quite a bit for a recovery disc and if I'm gonna spend the money I might as well spend it upgrading to windows 7Just CHECK here first: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/get/upgrade-advisor.aspxJust download a vista/ windows 7 recovery disc from easyBCD websiteIgnore the above post. |

Solve : Which ISP speed is best for me?? |
|
Answer» Hello Forum. I am attempting to move from dial up(don't laugh)to a higher speed ISP. The least expensive broadband service I am aware of is AT&T DSL, $20/mo, no contract, no telephone service required. In some areas the introductory rate is $14.95/mo for 12 months. I am using the AT&T $19.95 / month service right now. It's reliable but it's only 768/384 speeds for this price, which is not good enough if you want to watch streaming videos without buffering (the HD or HQ vid's particularly). It beats dialup by a whole lot though. But then again, DSL extreme may be cheaper??? For $29.95, I can get their internet service which they say you get 3-6mb download speed and 512-768 upload speed. And I see they have month to month contract options, so you can go one month at a time instead of being hacked up 1 yr. |

Solve : My life as a spyware developer? |
Answer» Read Recent Interview...
Quote“I was broke,” he said. “My money was running out. I was getting a bit desperate. I had no security technology background. I was just a developer.”Personally, I'd much RATHER WORK at a retail store or something then a spyware company. In fact that's a TALE of it's own since I be working for a company that was either very shifty or very *censored*. I suspected a bit of both and declined their "offer" which had the ADDITIONAL curiousity of me getting paid "under the table"... red flags right there. Don't even want to know what they did. |

Solve : ISO Hunt - Leagal?? |
|
Answer» Pardon me if this is not news, - 'tis news to me I'm not from USA, but I fail to see why this should be illegal. It's clearly for searching for illegal content. I mean, you have sites called ISO hunt (legal ISOs? yeah right, sure they exist, but clearly that's not what it's designed for) thepiratebay (golly gee we didn't intend for it to be used for pirated content!) and all sorts of other sites. The fact is, if they are, as you said, search engines. but people upload these torrents from their own PCs and it would make sense that, if these sites were actually trying to remain legal, to actually filter those torrents. The WHOLE "well it's just searching for the torrent files not the actual copyright DATA" is simply a level of indirection intended to circumvent the law regarding the issue. A Torrent, the protocol itself, and the contents of the file, aren't illegal. But to compare these torrent search engines to google is a bit NAIVE. These torrent search engines are quite clearly designed to return hits for illegal torrents, and there is very little that the administrators do to prevent it, which makes them guilty of "conspiracy to commit criminal copyright infringement" (in the U.S, at the very least, anyway). the reason people believe that having torrents that point to copyright data do not subject Torrent search engines to secondary copyright liability is because of a Case files by Universal Studio's against Sony, in which they claim a "precedent" was set: Quote the Supreme Court found that Sony's new product, the Betamax (the first mass-market consumer videocassette recorder), did not subject Sony to secondary copyright liability because it was capable of substantial non-infringing uses. Decades later, this case became the jumping-off point for all peer-to-peer copyright infringement litigation. However, One has to realize that this actually doesn't set any sort of precedent- the Betamax was a physical device, it's use for illegal activity put the maker at legal odds no more then smith & wesson are held responsible for violence and deaths relating to use and misuse of their weapons. What a Torrent Site would be akin to in this analogy is a weapon manufacturer that provided instructions on the best ways to kill people and commit crimes with their products. Now, not strictly illegal, but the intent is clear- these weapons are designed for commiting crimes. If such a weapon manufacturer existed and their weapons were used in a murder, they would be guilty of conspiracy to commit murder just as much as an accomplice would. torrents pointing to copyrighted stuff is like somebody helping commit a crime isn't it? Quote What a Torrent Site would be akin to in this analogy is a weapon manufacturer that provided instructions on the best ways to kill people and commit crimes with their products. Now, not strictly illegal, but the intent is clear- these weapons are designed for commiting crimes. If such a weapon manufacturer existed and their weapons were used in a murder, they would be guilty of conspiracy to commit murder just as much as an accomplice would. So what if there were 3 differnt parties involved 1) The torrent search engine (weapon manufacturer) 2) Someone seeding the torrent (ie: another guy giving insturctions on how to murder people using the weapons) 3) The person downloading the torrent (ie: the guy who actually commits the murder) Is #1 as guitly as #2?. I would think #3 is the guilty person and #2 is the accomplice, but I'm still not convinced #1 did anything wrong. And they are many legal ISO's. Most linux distrubtions are available for download as a legal ISO, and some from torrents too. Quote from: BradDet on August 03, 2010, 02:00:00 PM 1) The torrent search engine (weapon manufacturer) #1 is as guilty as #2 simply because they are intentionally for use with copyright products. People *censored* and complain and say "but it's not illegal" all the while using sites called "thepiratebay" and "ISOhunt" and others clearly intended to distribute copyright material. Your analogy is wrong because #2 is essentially leaving their instructions with #1, and #1 essentially CLAIMS "it's not our problem" despite the fact that the instructions are stored on their servers. Apparently the concept of approving each entry is not feasible, (as they claim, "there is no way to make sure everything posted is legal" complete bs and they know it. Quote And they are many legal ISO's. Most linux distrubtions are available for download as a legal ISO, and some from torrents too. That has nothing to do with this. Sure, there are plenty of legal ISOs. but the vast majority exist as imaged copyright software. It's sort of like RAR files. the compression itself and the file format are perfectly benign but because of the higher compression ratio RAR is almost exclusively used for distributing illegal content. It doesn't make RAR illegal, of course, but that's hardly the position that a torrent search engine has. "we're just a search engine, we aren't responsible for any of our content or what our results give back" Is the common defense tactic. It's flawed. First, they are entirely responsible for what results come back. It's not the same as a google search engine; google indexes pages and URLs by keywords. a torrent search site not only indexes the torrent contents themselves but almost always keeps a active torrent tracker; so while it's playing a man in the middle position it's right there in the fray. Perhaps you are judging the book by it's cover? I could create a website called '*adult URL*' (I haven't tried that site, not suggesting you visit it). Doesn't mean it's intended to contain porn. It would seem to me it is censorship to prevent the system for listing certain content just because it maybe used for illegal purposes. Even if you don't want to call it a 'search engine'. It is a search "tool". And it's sad that so many people use this tool for illegal purposes, but I don't pretend to make assumptions about the intent behind the idea of the site or the name without evidence. So for example, if there was a memo from the president to the employees saying, 'hey were a site that makes money by letting others illegally exchange material such as movies'. Then I would agreeThanks to BC for having r identified the key issues. It is not if you think you can evade the law.. The REAL issue is if you really break the law. Knowingly aiding a criminal in a crime is wrong! Like if you drove the getaway car. And it is not just a word game, what titles to use and all that. Example: Amazon.com: 101 Ways to Kill Your Boss (9780452290051) It is a legal book. And look here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YDe7pvx8phk No judge is going to indict Amazon, Google or the author of the Book. Even though the title sounds very bad. But the content is very -> it still is a problem if a website with legal intents can be used illegally isn't it? The confusion comes from the way we understand legal terms written in English and Legalese, which are 2 different thingsDoing some more research, it seems the following is the best summary of the issue: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IsoHunt It was on July 4 that ISO Hunt changed the main page. Elsewhere on the site you can still find some links. They say that they are going to remake the site to compy with the current interpretation of the law. Somewhat related to this, Bit Torrent is looking for people to work in San Francisco. To grasp the scope of all this, read the like above. Quote According to isoHunt, the total amount of shared content was more than 10.01 petabytes as of November 22, 2009 ...This is not a few guys working in the garage.I'm afraid I still don't 'get it' How does Amazon selling a book on 101 Ways to kill your Boss differ in any way from isoHunt returning a torrent link to say the Astroboy movie? Also, I can totally search google and find similar content http://lmgtfy.com/?q=%22Astroboy%22+Last-modified+avi+OR+mov+OR+mpg+OR+mpeg+OR+mp4+%22intitle%3Aindex+of+%22+-inurl%3Ahtm+-inurl%3Ahtml I would like to understand more why the technology employed by isoHunt differs legally from the way google does it. Napster for example ran into problems because (it is my understanding) that content was actually stored on their site and passed through their networks, so their service was supporting illegal activity. And just be clear, I'm not suggesting that isoHunt isn't fully aware their search engine is used for mainly illegal purposes, or even that they are capitalizing on that illegal use, but that' a bit different from saying they setup the site with the intent of it being used illegally. Perhaps they did - I don't know, I haven't seen evidence either way. |

Software can easily be replaced. A, but install Windows 7 on it.Technically 7 is a Vista distro. Quote from: Carbon Dudeoxide on July 31, 2010, 10:55:52 PM Technically 7 is a Vista distro. technically no it's not. it's Windows 7. Windows doesn't have "distributions" because a "distribution" is a set of various publicly available components; Linux distributions combine kernel, UI desktop, and applications. many distributions use the same kernel but different DESKTOPS, and many Distros use different kernels but the same desktops, and so on and so forth. The fact is nothing in windows is "mixed and matched" into a distro. The Kernel and UI are both entirely different in 7 from what they were from Vista just as Windows XP's kernel and User interface were different from windows 2000. a Distribution implies a branch-like architecture. Windows 7 has been a straight line from NT 3.1 to 7.Oh really? Looks like I have been misinformed.... But Wasn't 7 built off Vista? Windows 7 has been a straight line from NT 3.1 to 7. I thought that everything from 2000 - Windows 7 uses the NT kernal....Are there different versions of the NT kernal ? How does this brake down, exactly ?Depends entirely on the rest of the specifications and what actual processor and RAM is in them. Looks like I have been misinformed.... But Wasn't 7 built off Vista?Of course 7 (NT 6.1) was a later version of Vista (6.0). Vista was a later version of XP (5.1). XP was a later version of 2000(5.0), 2000 was a later version of NT4, etc. But that's the thing. Ubuntu 10.04 isn't regarded as a distro of Ubuntu 9.04, just because it's a later version. Ubuntu, Slackware, Fedora, Mepis, KUbuntu, Mint, etc are Distributions of Linux. They aren't different Versions of Linux insomuch as they are completely different Operating Systems based on Linux. don t know enough about computors to answer that , thats why i m on this site , tryin to learn a few things ..lolEh, I might choose computer B and just add memory. Bringing it up to 4GB would probably cost a good bit less than buying Win 7 for computer A. But, I'd probably also want more details about the processors before deciding. |

Solve : http 500 internal server error? |
|
Answer» Hi all Well it was doing it to Virgin customers, from what I understand, but that's been cleared up now. I'm a Sky customer but no-one else seems to have a problem so that rules out ISP. I'm English, live in Egland and the person who built the website is English and most of the people who use the site are English so that rules out country (don't know where the website is hosted but obviously other people here can access it) I believe you can tell from my ip address that I live somewhere around Bristol but no closer than that. I am on cable and my ip doesn't change for months on end but I think DSL might be different. Maybe there was a banned person on the same phone exchnage as you? |

Solve : fax machine hook up not right.? |

Answer» I have a Panasonic KX-FHD331 fax machine. People have not been able to fax in and I want to make sure everything is hooked up RIGHT. I have the phone, fax machine, answering machine, caller id box. There is something I am doing wrong here and just don't know what it is. Explain this like you would to a little kid if you will. Thanks. I have ONE line.Hello, please make sure the phone line is CONNECTED well. You can try to print out a report and see whether there is some bad codes. The phone is connected right;however, the manual doesn't show or tell how to CONNECT the fax, the caller id, and the answering machine. I have re routed a few things and just need to see if an oncoming fax will come in.I haven't used a fax/modem/phone switch for years, so I can't recommend a specific brand or model, but I have used them in the past. It may be something you might LOOK at. |

Solve : Open Office 3.2.1 ISO images? |
|
Answer» Open Office 3.2.1 ISO images are available. Free, of course. CD-ROM ISO ImagesYou also need a current JRE package for your OS. http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp Do you agree that Open Office is as good as the MS product for general use? What's the point of getting an ISO image for Open Office? Why not just download the .exe file? Quote from: Geek-9pm on July 17, 2010, 10:44:33 PM Do you agree that Open Office is as good as the MS product for general use?Maybe. What, exactly, is "general use"? It really depends on the user's needs. But, yes, it is probably quite adequate for many users. However, if you're implying that Open Office is absolutely as good as the MS product, I do not agree. If you go into the office environment the vast majority of businesses (let's say any business with annual sales exceeding $5 million), what Office package do you think you'll see on their computers? If you truly don't know the answer to that, I can tell it is MS Office. Since business seeks to minimize costs and maximize profits, they'd be using Open Office if it truly served their needs as well as MS Office. Also, many companies employ VBA to create entire applications within Word, Excel, or Access, depending on what functions the "application" needs. I have to agree with Soybean. There's just no need as far as I can see for ISO images. Unless I'm MISSING something.. Quote from: RubiK on July 20, 2010, 06:02:19 AM I have to agree with Soybean. There's just no need as far as I can see for ISO images. In a community college it would make a lot of sense. The ISO has extra stuff, like documentation. Give each student a CD and let them INSTALL it. Of course, the naked installer is a quick download. BTW, from version 3 on Open Office has MS run time stuff built into it. Like VBA and some things of C++ run time. (Should I say RUM time?) Quote from: Geek-9pm on July 20, 2010, 10:41:30 AM BTW, from version 3 on Open Office has MS run time stuff built into it. Like VBA It doens't have VBA, it has a VBA knockoff, OpenOffice.Org Basic. It's not necessarily less useful then the VBA editor, but you certainly aren't going to be able to create entire projects with it like you can with VBA. IMO it's really more on par with WordBASIC or AccessBASIC.Your opion is important. Word Basic is still alive and can be a surrogate for VBA. WordBasic Lives! By Dan Mabbutt, About.com Guide to Visual Basic So by making a comparison to Word Basic, your are saying it has some value for a segment of the general users. Right? Considering that it is free, it is of value to those who must serve a number of workstations on a limited budget. Flor example, schools in the inner cities. Quote from: Geek-9pm on July 21, 2010, 10:59:56 AM Word Basic is still alive and can be a surrogate for VBA. It's not "alive". and VBA acts as a surrogate for it. it's no longer a separate language as it was in Word versions prior to 97, but rather a Object that you access via VBA. Second: the quoted source author is clearly biased, making constant references to VB6: Quote That turkey was obsolete in 1997 when it was replaced by VBA. (Which, in turn, is the last little sniglet of VB6 Microsoft has left hanging around.) Quote So, the question occurs to me, "Why is Microsoft so kind and understanding to their Office macro languages users when they throw VB6 programmers out in the cold to freeze and starve?" I'm not going to get into the .NET argument because my OPINION is a rather ambivalent one depending on perspective, but clearly he must understand that languages are developed and die. How many programmers used to use Pascal on a daily basis? How many do now? that type of thing. some of those programmers essentially retired, but the rest adapted and actually learned another language. WordBASIC is not supported at all by any version of Word after word 97. Word 2000 and up will open a Word DOCUMENT that contains wordbasic macros, but they are converted to VBA macros that reference the WordBASIC object. Go ahead. try it. can you create a macro in Word 2007 that simply states Code: [Select]Bold 1 to bold a character? No? then it's not wordBASIC. All that is left of wordBASIC are a few COMPATIBILITY objects that emulate the various functions. the various unique syntax is gone. Same with AccessBASIC. Quote So by making a comparison to Word Basic, your are saying it has some value for a segment of the general users. Right?Yes. I never stated otherwise. Quote Considering that it is free, it is of value to those who must serve a number of workstations on a limited budget. Flor example, schools in the inner cities. Not arguing with you there. My original point is that it is not like VBA, except in the way it is available in multiple applications. [/quote] Quote Of course, the naked installer is a quick download.Yeah, if you're living in the US that is. Quote from: kpac on July 21, 2010, 01:47:23 PM Yeah, if you're living in the US that is.Promise to keep your eyes closed. http://download.openoffice.org/index.html about 150 MBYeah, and? 150 mb takes about 5 hours for me to download (on a good day). The Open Office e Project does not distribute the product on CD . However, they allow others to distribute it on a CD with some restrictions. More information: http://distribution.openoffice.org/cdrom/ |

Solve : PC maxed out and a horrible mess!? |
|
Answer» Hello. I had a PC built for me by a co-worker 3 yrs ago. I play some games like Sims 3 but nothing hardcore. I do like to have 10+ internet tabs open at a time though & sometimes I have like 7 PROGRAMS running at once. I also use my computer to watch movies on my TV. ...2- Maxtor 320GB(640GB total)Maybe I'm missing something: 2 hard drives or 4? a) If 2 internal drives this sounds like a good idea.I have 2 physical hard drives but for some reason he separated it into 4 drives, I have a C:, F: G: & H: hardrive listed under my computer. Quote from: myswtsins on July 20, 2010, 06:46:23 PM I have 2 physical hard drives but for some reason he separated it into 4 drives, I have a C:, F: G: & H: hardrive listed under my computer.2 physical drives partitioned into 2 logical drives, each = 4 logical drives. Analogy: 2 file cabinets with 2 file drawers, each = 4 file drawers Just a way to organize files to make it easier to find them, i.e. OS on C, data on F, downloads on G, etc.Given your statement "& it is a complete mess of crap! " i think "crap" removal ought to be high on your agenda. A relatively easy way to accomplish that task is to start-search-all files and folders-what size is it (at this point remove the zero and insert 5000 which translates to 5 MB). That is just an arbitrary file size you can make it as you wish. Then begin your search. When complete go through the resultant list and lop heads. I recently did this on one of our computers and with little effort brought it down from 1024 to 309.truenorth |

Solve : right click save as box? |
|
Answer» Yesterday I had a problem with my right click save as box disappearing. I thought I had found the answer with the help of SOMEONE on hear but TODAY it did it again. I further checked with another help site and found that if you USE Firefox and installed the Yahoo tool bar your in trouble with this. For some reason the Yahoo bar messes with it. I uninstalled the tool bar and now it works great. Can you give an example? Otherwise, your post isn't very helpful, or not helpful at all. To make it simple, you right click to bring up the save as box to down load pictures or articles from the web. Apparently you may not use itPictures and articles would WORK differently, so let's talk about pictures/images for now. If you right click on an image on a web page, using Firefox, you have the option to Save Image As, or you should have. Do you not have that?I do now after taking out the Yahoo add on tool bar. That is the problem. I looked on another site and was told by 3 people this was the problem and it was. |

Solve : LAN Wiring & Pinouts? |
|
Answer» LAN Wiring & Pinouts Quote There is NOTHING more annoying than spending 30 minutes debugging a network problem to find it was the CABLE. Badly MADE or non-standard cabling is a foolish thing ...This is an old LINK, but if you need it, you need it. http://www.zytrax.com/tech/layer_1/cables/tech_lan.htm Somewhat along the same topic, if you are going to buy bulk cable and make your own connectors: DON'T BUY CHEAP CABLE!!!! I've made hundreds of connectors and generally had a 90 to 95 % SUCCESS rate. A tech that worked for me and made many times more connectors than I did probably had a 99% success rate. He bought a 1,000' roll of cable for about half what we usually paid and we both had a 90% failure rate. We ended up throwing out the remaining cheap cable, bought a good roll and were back on track. |

Solve : Dell Studio XPS 16 keyboard cover and accessories?? |
|
Answer» Sorry guy's im new to the FORUM so I figured Id post here, if there's a better place for this post let me know and I'll move it. I have used several universal keyboard covers and they all are either too thick, too slippery, or just plain dont fit right. The dell studio xps 16 has a very flat and unique keyboard design, it's slippery, and dell doesnt actually sell one that fits it. any suggestions on where to find one that would fit a dell studio xps 16 keyboard snuggly? and not slip off. also looking for a nice case to carry it in. it's a 15.6 inch screen. I NEED a nice reliable one as Dell doesn't build the casing to these LAPTOPS very rugged. It actually is really easy to FALL apart. :/ Also I was wondering if a bluetooth card is something worth upgrading? I've never actually thought about it before. But will a newere bluetooth card speed up performance at all? Or is it still all dependent on my network speed? |

Solve : send email to grandson? |
|
Answer» My grandson, who is 8, does not have his own email address/account. I'd like to send him emails, etc., but I want his parents to know ahead of time that it's for him. I've tried to get Yahoo! to answer this, but they don't seem to be able to understand what I want to do and keep SENDING incorrect responses. I've added his name to my contacts list, then put his mother's email address. When I type his name, it goes to that contact name, but the "to" line shows only his mother's email address, and not his name either in front of that address or behind it. I know there's a way to do this as I've seen it before, but just can't figure it out. Can anyone help? THANKS much! What you are seeing prior to sending the email is on your computer. Have you tried to send an email and determine what the recipient sees as to the addressee? truenorthin yahoo mail, I can get the "To" field to show something like Also, sent an email (clicked on the g'son's contact) to his mother's address and asked her to let me know how it showed up there. (two different techniques, not at the same time)hopefully that works. I tried sending to a test email from my yahoo mail to my gmail and it work fine. But I don't know if it would be showing up alright w ith other services (hotmail, msn, etc) is grandson's mom also using yahoo mail to receive emails? No, I'm sending from Yahoo, but mother's email is gmail. She got my test that I sent in just straight email form, but when I went to Hallmark and American Greetings to send a card, it won't accept email address as valid. Probably no way around that, huh? Thanks again. Quote from: khill75462 on July 14, 2010, 07:27:04 PM No, I'm sending from Yahoo, but mother's email is gmail. She got my test that I sent in just straight email form, but when I went to Hallmark and American Greetings to send a card, it won't accept <name>email address as valid. Probably no way around that, huh? Thanks again. That's because it is not a correct email address. The stuff is extra information added on by the client, and depending on the reciever, will be displayed by the client. It isn't actually part of the email address. For example, if you put someone's name infront of their house address, their address doesn't become John Do 77 Fake St, it's still 77 Fake St. Thanks. So that does mean that it's not "doable" at ecard sites? Most sites include a custom message option, where you can specify that it's for your grandson...otherwise, I think you're right.I know he's young, but is a separate gmail account for him out of the question? Obviously, you would need to put filters and parental controls in place to be safe, but I've seen kids younger than 8 that knew how to use the basics of computers. Some of them could barely read, but they knew icons. Helpmeh probably already had his own email account by that age.Actually, I have to brag just a little ~ he was just tested & his IQ is 140! Guess he could have figured this out for me, come to think of it! However, that being said, his parents don't think it's necessary for him to have his own account. They let him do certain things, with close supervision, but don't want him spending all his time on the computer, so limit what he can do. Thanks for all the help yall have given on this! |
