Solve : Problems related??

Answer»

The screen seems to vibrate, the cd burner has a failure every time I try to burn a back up cd for my files, and a few times I recieved a message stating that Windows XP did not start up properly.  One time when the computer was running poorly it also stated that the virtual memory was full even though no programs were running.  The compuer is now taking longer and longer to boot up now.  Also the screen PIXEL size changed and the display shrunk from 1152 x 864 to 1024 x 768 and also the monitor didn't allow me to change the screen setting with the OSD buttons on the monitor.  This all started on the same day and am not sure if it is related.  I set the systems restore back a week to see if that would help.  It changed the pixel size back to normal but all the other problems persist.  If anyone knows what I can do to fix the problem I would love any advice.Have you tried all the usuals like scandisk, defragment, virus checkers? Another anwser maybe that the hard drive as given up. Sounds like you have quite a few problems, is it an old computer?OSUdental....As I read your post it seems that all these problems started at the same time......If thats correct ,them possibly the issue is with your video card.
The other possibility is a virus or trojan......Have you scanned for them with current and updated scanning software .
Anything else about whats going on might help find a solution for you.

dl65    I have recently scandissked the computer and that doesn't seem to be the problem, I also ran disk defragmenter about a week and a half before this problem.  I have bought a new video card but haven't installed it since I was worried that it may be useless if I have to buy a new computer.  This one is 2 yrs old, is an entry level E-machines, so it is not top of the line I KNOW, but still I don't understand the problem.  Any suggestions on a good virus software?  Don't have a LOT of money, but it would be a lot cheaper than a new comp.

(As a side note I'm not sure my new video card will fit into the slot on the motherboard.  Is that common and can it be corrected?)e-machines ok?virus software and FIREWALLS etc can be found here>http://www.majorgeeks.com/download955.html   the pc acting weird possible trojan?SCAN with the stinger progamOSUdental...You didn't mention whether you are running
a anti virus program.......Be sure it's updates are current.
Perhaps you should download and scan with Ad-Aware
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/    it's free and is very good.
With regard to your vid card question ........I thinks there's at least 3  types of slots.
ISA    older style
PCI    in most p/c's
AGP   newest of the lot I think.
So if your going to upgrade your vid card .....the first thing you should do is learn the difference between the slot types. It is possible your p/c has an onboard vid card. If that is the case you would install the new one in a vacant slot , install the new drivers and disable the onboard vid card. Then if you buy a new puter down the road , simply remove the one you just bought and enable the onboard vid card. Running scan disk and defragging isnt going to correect your problem , but it should improve the performance of your p/c . Run a complete in depth virus scan and then run the Ad-aware
program .You will be amased at how many things it will locate and remove.

good luck

Solve : Home page reset?

Answer»

I have WINDOWS 95 and I use Internet Explorer.  Whenever I restart my computer, the starting HOME page of Internet Explorer is always changed to http://fastsearch.cc/cxlow/   which appears to be some stupid search engine.  I have changed it many times and set the default home page to something else but it will always go back once I restart the computer.  I have tried using Ad-aware and removed all spyware, yet still resets home page.  Any suggestions?Try Spybot Search & Destroy, install and run it and see what it omes up with then open spybot at tools / browser pages and LOCK down your homepage.

If no luck get CWshredder and run that, that got rid of CoolWebSearch for me.

These dorks PUT entries in the registry so unless you get them out of there every boot will bring it upive had that kind of problem before kept changing mine to some page that said i had spyware and when ever it loaded up EJECTED my cd-rom except it changed to that page whenever IE was loaded up im not sure how exactly how i got rid of it but before i loaded up IE i went in to its properties and changed my Home adress did this for a awhile than finnaly stopped srry couldnt be of more help

Solve : Can't load OS after format?

Answer»

I formatted and partitioned HD with fdisk all went well.
Then when I was ready to install Win98SE the CD does not run.
It assigned the CD to G drive and I can switch to G in DOS but when I TYPE in SETUP I get :
Device not ready Retry, Abort, Fail
What am I doing wrong?
CD worked fine before format and the machine was on FAT 16 WIN 95
fdisk shows both partitions as FAT32 C & DYou can call me on this one, but I believe win 98se is a  bootable disk. Assuming you have the original MS disk you could try setting the bios to boot from CDrom (sometimes burned/backup copies of windows dont work as well).  If that doesnt work... I am assuming you already have a floppy boot disk you may WANT to try making a new one from either http://www.bootdisk.com/

http://www.startdisk.com/Web1/ubd/ubd.htm

Lastly you could try copying the cd (hoping you can at least view it) directly to the hard drive and install from there. Provided is a link that explains it quite well http://www.duxcw.com/digest/Howto/software/windows/upgrade/inst98.htm or http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=http://support.microsoft.com:80/support/kb/articles/q169/5/01.asp&NoWebContent=1 Good luck let us know any updates.Dennis......Try reading this it just might be of help

Hope this is of some help

dl65Thanks detox,
I made a new boot disk from the link you posted but same result it loads a cd driver assigns it a drive letter (now R) when I enter drive letter R at DOS PROMPT the CD runs but then gives me this msg
CDR101: not ready reading drive R
           Abort, Retry, Fail ?

I have used fdisk several times and reloaded OS several times first time with this problem. Also the CD 98 disk is a full MS version not a copy.

Thanks dl65,
Great site for the use of fdisk but I use fdisk quite often my problem is after fdisk and formatting HD.
go into the bios del key and change the boot sequence to cdrom?I can't seem to get into BIOS I have pushed F1-F2-Esc-& Del keys but none of these open the BIOS.
The Comp is a Compaq Presario 4660 if this helps. It only boots up from boot disk then goes to A prompt.
Try Ctrl ALT SAlt S didn't work either any help for getting into BIOS from the 95/98 start up disk??hit the f10 on boot to obtain bios and change the boot sequence to boot from cdrom save and exit more info on re-install win98>http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=221829&product=w9

Solve : CD Drive Variable?

Answer»

I wrote a batch, which was burned to a CD to LINK to several install programs ALSO on the CD so my FREINDS COULD just stick the cd in, and it would auto run this file. The file is as follows:

echo off
call D:/data/first/install1.exe
pause
call D:/data/second/install2.exe
pause
call D:/data/third/setup.exe
pause
exit

Very crude and simple, yet efficiant.

I burned the CDs and everything worked just fine. Yet, it only worked on computers with the CDROM drive they were using was D:/ . I want to have some sort of variable LIKE the '%windir%' variable to goto the CDROM

ThanksOkay, all you have to do is:

Just don't put in D:

I had used to have a hard time with the different drive letters for different computers until I discovered this simple way. You don't even need to use a variable!
Oh, also you don't need to use forward slashes, you can use backslashes too.

So your batch file would look something like this now:

echo off
call \data\first\install1.exe
pause
call \data\second\install2.exe
pause
call \data\third\setup.exe
pause
exit

Thank me later...

Solve : unable to add serial port io card?

Answer»

I have two motherboards that are ok except the onboard serial ports are 'toast'. As I need at least one to work for a POINT of sale application for the cash drawer, I am trying to add an external i-o card to the motherboard with no luck. I have tried with the on-board ports enabled and disabled and have tried various COMBINATIONS of com port and irq combinations. The system (Windows 98 se) will recognize the new port, but programatially nothing gets thru to the port. If I remove the i-o card and try the program, an error occurs opening the port. With the i-o card in place, no error, but no data thru the port either. HELP..... any ideas? Solve : W2000 Info?

Answer»

In another thread, it is mentioned that Windows 2000 is "better than" W98SE (that thread is dealing with a different topic, so I'm guessing this should be a new thread?). Anyway, I use W98SE, but I have a new, still packaged copy of W2000 Professional. Since I know nothing about Operating Systems besides 98SE (and knowing that ME is a problem), is there a site or some source where I can get more W2000 info, and maybe even some comparisons with 98SE? I'm debating whether to replace my 98SE with 2000, but I just don't know enough about it. Thanks for any thoughts....sierradadI cant think of any sources that have comparisons, but in my personal experience WIN 2K pro is superior to 98 in nearly every way. It is an NT based OS so has a much better file system and better network options. It is also more stable and just generally nicer to work with.
If you wanted just to test it you might be able to dual boot with 98 so you dont have to completely remove the old OS.You'll likely have to format the hard drive because 2k works BEST in a file format called NTFS (New Technologies File System) while 98 is strictly FAT.  2k is much more secure in terms of password protection and user lockouts, is much more stable, and has better support for newer hardware (it can be a pain to find current drivers for 98).  I'm pretty sure that MS will be soon discontinuing support for 98 as WELL, they already have for 95.  As for site comparisons.. you already know the features and limitations of 98 so just research 2k a bit. Thanks, Metal & Joleen, for the thoughts. I'm leaving for the weekend, but think I will end up changing to 2000 next week when I get back. My only question, is how to reformat to NTSF. Will the W2000 CD do that, or do I need to download a boot disk for 2000? If I do d/l a 2000 boot disk, will it reformat since the drive is already FAT32, or do I need a 3rd party partition manager?

Thanks again for any assist

Best....LarrySorry, I really cant recall ever running/installing Win 2000 anywhere matter-of-factly I was only corrected days ago that 2000 actually used NTFS which I was totally unaware of.  Once you do go to install it can you let us know what you turn up.  I know Win XP does is for you during installation.
Good LuckSure will let ya know, Detox   I won't be doing it until probably between Monday & Wednesday next week, but will post what I find out.

Best....LarryYou can upgrade from 9x to W2Kpro if you wish.  To check compatibility run the following COMMAND with the cdrom in its drive:

Drive_letter:\winnt32 /checkupgradeonly

I think you are offered the choice to convert to ntfs during the installation process, if not once successfully upgraded use the following command:

convert drive_letter: /fs:ntfs

You can convert from FAT to NTFS with no loss of data but you can’t convert from NTFS to FAT without re-formatting.
Change your bios to boot off the CD first then put the 2k CD in.  The system will start loading required drivers/files then will give you options as to whether or not you wish to install or repair (you'll want install) then show you the available partitions (which will be FAT).  I think you have the option of installing with FAT but if you don't mind losing data I'd format with NTFS.  Once the format is done I think it will ask you to continue with the install process.  It will then happily go and install the flashy new OS and you'll never look back .Sounds good, Robert & Joleen....much appreciated!

Anyway, I'm leaving right now....won't be posting again until next week, but will read this thread again, then do it! I expect to reinstall everything (reformat), but that's OK....I have all my disks (except IE6....it was SUPPOSED to have been shipped 3/27....this is 4/08 and I don't have it yet). Anyway, thanks for all the help! Catch ya next week! Best....LarryJust wanted to say thanks to all who replied. I appreciate your thoughts

However, I found out that my W2000 disk is not the 2000 O.S., but is an OFFICE program to install on a machine which already runs 2000

In a couple of months, I'm going to BUY a new HD, and will go ahead and buy the W2000 program. Will install it then. Meanwhile, thanks again. Best...Larry

Solve : Printer problems...?

Answer»

Hi all, I am having a problem with a HP LaserJet 2100 that I aquired recently. The only connectivity on it is a Hawking Technology network adapter. When I print out to it, it prints out total garbage: the fist PAGE looks like raw postscript text, and then it prints out a lot of blank PAGES. I just need to know if the PRINTER is busted or if the network card in the printer is to blame. I cannot try out another connectivity method though, as it only has the network connection...

If anyone knows about this kind of problem, some help would be greatly appreciated so I do not have to buy a new printer!!!you can look here>http://www.5starsupport.com/info/printer.htm    okHi Jeremy.....try this link....
http://www.hp.com/sbso/bussupport.html

you didnt say but I an assuming you wish to use it as a stand alone.
Also there a various models of the 2100 so if you go to the link above and enter the exact serial NUMBER you should be able to D/L the appropriate driver. If that DOESNT work, there is a support link to HP that may help.
PS that printer is a discontinued model.
Hope this is of some help.

Solve : Looking for New Video Card Suggestions?

Answer»

I'm looking for a VIDEO card that I can copy my VHS tapes from my VCR to my computer and then Burn them to a cd or dvd. I need to know if I would need special software and what type of media I would need I.E: RD-R, CD+R, ETC.. I would also like to get the most out of the video card to be able to view my computer screen on my TV and to receive tv input station to view tv shows on my computer. Also if at all possible to RECORD tv shows and to LATER burn them to cd media.

Can anyone help with this one???Your best bet is to get one of the following.

ATI AIW (all in wonder) video card
TV Tuner Card
Video Capture Card

A video capture card does just like it sounds... it will allow you to view video on your computer.  They often come with the needed software to record the video you want.

A TV tuner card is essentially the same, but it also has a TV tuner built into it, so you can WATCH TV on your computer.

An ATI AIW card will allow you to do both of the things above, and usually have a video out plug on them which will hook up to your TV, VCR, other monitors, etc etc.  While this does more than the other 2, they're often more expensive as well.  The reason is you also get a better videocard to play games on.

To put all of this onto CD or DVD, you would either need a CD or DVD burner.

If you are interested in any of the above items, I can hook you up with the ONES you need as I run a small computer business in Ontario. (we ship worldwide..)Contact me at [email protected] or [email protected]You won't be doing any transferring if the VHS tapes are copyrighted. All you'll get is garbled video, but intact audio. But for most people, ATi's All in Wonder series cards are the way to go. The cheapest card would be the All in Wonder 9000 which would suit your needs fine.

Solve : How to Register Windows Xp Home Edition??

Answer»

I just recently installed Windows Xp Home Edition on my computer. When the screen came up and asked register now or later I acsedently PRESSED later. Where on my computer can I go to register it, before the 30 days expire. If you have an answer please email me at [email protected]

ThanxRegistering is completely voluntary; activating is what's required. Just keep looking at the bottom-right of your screen; a bubble telling you to activate will pop up once in awhile. To start it MANUALLY, go to start/all programs/accesories/system tools/activate windows.
Linux never needs to be activated I just went through this for a friend yesterday. It is EASIEST to choose the internet activation. Just be SURE you write down the code you are sent EXACTLY. It is automated, unless you leave something out, then you have to talk to a "service representative." They will want to know WHY you are reinstalling (to prevent pirating....they think XP is so dadburned good that it doesn't need reinstalling....I disagree, but that's another subject   ).

ANYWAY, when I wrote down the code I was sent (email, as I recall....or however I got it....I've only done this once), I left out one 6-number sequence and the automated activation wouldn't work. That is when I had to talk to a person. Point is, double-check your activation code (it's long.....about eight sets of six numbers, plus two ending numbers) before you actually go to the activation page.  It'll SAVE you some problems.

Best...LarryDoesn't Winodws refuse to install without the code, and then save it for activation?

Go LinuxTo activate XP manually, you can use the Start menu shortcut in the System Tools Accessories folder. At the command prompt, type:  oobe/msoobe /a or Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Activate Windows and more explained on wpa here>http://aumha.org/win5/a/wpa.htm

Solve : constant attempts to dial out?

Answer»
I have a persistant problem I have not been able to find the source of, even though I have changed virus checker, purged spyware often and ditched unfamiliar programs.

My PC continually attempts to connect to the net, and will lock up some programs in mid session when the attempt happens.

I understand it must be a background process but how do I find it?Have you got a firewall? ZoneAlarm could be able to at least identify what program is dialing out? Try it from ZoneLabs. Thanks

I have two firewalls, niether prevents this problem which is internal to the PC

I have Zonealarm Pro installed. I sometimes wonder if it is the source or if IE 6 is thesource but I cannot un- install that.Hi Torch.....
Here's something you can check.....it may just solve your problem. Up at the top in the tool bar click on Tools , then scroll down to internet options....click on the connections tab...... Mke sure ....never dial a connection is ticked. Then click the apply tab and OK and you problems may well be corrected.
I am assuming its something simple.
Hope this is of help,

dl65   Thanks for the suggestion That will certainly stop any program dialling out but it means I have to dial the ISP manually before starting the Browser which ISNT a satisfactory work around and doesn't locate the rogue process.  Hi Torch .....You shouldnt have to manualy dial up your isp before opening browser.......just open browser or your mail and a dialup box will come up and just hit connect. That will at least prevent the bug from locking you up ......Can you  find any folders that contain the IE toolbar and manually delete them ........you might also try running system mechanic , WinDoc or Pest Patrol
One of those utilities should find the sucker

dl65    I implemented your work around and gave you the RESULTS, what more can I say? The process doesn't operate in the manner you anticipate requiring manual intervention.

Thanks for the additional suggestions

When they disable your internet access, removing the spyware is not enough. You'll also have to repair your winsock registry entries and some related files. This program will do that: http://members.shaw.ca/techcd/VB_Projects/WinsockFix.exe

Solve : Upgrading DOS 4.1?

Answer»

How do I upgrade my 4.1 dos to 6.0.  I've downloaded the 6.0 version from MSDN and all it made was a system disk (floppy).?DAVID It's likely that what you downloaded was not MS-DOS 6.0. It's likely it was only a bootable diskette. You will not find the full version of MS-DOS 6.0 for download through Microsoft. You could always try Linux or FreeDOS:
http://www.freedos.org/
http://www.suse.com/us/index.html
http://www.knoppix.org/ (Knoppix is a live Linux CD, just burn and run from CD, and YES SITE is in English, click LINK at top.)
Hope this helps; haven't a clue where to get the real DOS .

Solve : Antivirus Software Installation?

Answer»

I am using XP.

My Symantec antivirus renewal is approaching and I have SEEN many  negative on-line comments about the inability to download the product.

Also saw many negative comments about the inability to get appropriate tech support when problems are encountered. In fact, my on-line searching helped me locate this site.

Any advice or shared experience out there?

Thanks. My NAV's LiveUpdate subscription ran out long ago; never renewed it. Why pay ever yeear when you can get the AVG free edition for free?:
http://www.grisoft.com/
Plus, for all major viruses you can just download a free scan/remover for that virus. I've HEARD good things about AVG, and it works fine for me. Also, don't forget about the free online scans (I know there's one at Norton's site at least).Hi natesneat.....Just a thought about AVG. I used it for a long time, and have considered it one of the best free AV's on the net. However, about a month ago, myself and several others had a lot of trouble downloading updates. The auto-update quit ALTOGETHER (would go online and ready to update, but just stopped....wouldn't do anything). Finally started manually downloading the updates from the site then installing them by running AVG. That worked OK for a week or two, then even the manual updates wouldn't download (same problem as the auto-update). I finally gave up and downloaded Avast AV (free), and have had no problems with updates.

The problem could be that I use dial-up. It may work fine on CABLE or DSL, but dial-up is just too slow. I have a feeling they have so many USERS now that their server just can't keep up with update requests. That is the general opinion on a couple of help forums I go to.

Just wanted to mention that, if it becomes a problem for you, Avast is a good option (have to uninstall AVG first, or they will conflict). It can be found by typing Avast in Google or any good search engine.

I'm not saying anything against AVG, by the way. It is an excellent AV program.....just useless if I can't update it. Hopefully, you won't have the problem, so this won't apply to you. However, I do like Avast....it has already caught a virus and I've only had it less than a week.

Best....Larry

what O/S and browser are you using.
Do you mean that you open say explore and there is no status bar at the bottom? So then you go up to the top and click on View ......and then tick status bar and the bar APPEARS........ so how LONG does it remain ?
Check in the view pull down under tool bars and make sure the Lock the toolbars is ticked.
Without more info I DONT know what to suggest.
Is this something that has just started?

Solve : Trouble opening files?

Answer»

We just bought a new computer with XP and are transferring files from our old computers.   Some WORD files we transferred from a desktop with W95 and others we transferred from a laptop with XP.  When we go to OPEN the files on the new computer we are able to open the ones brought over from the W95 desktop but not the XP laptop.  We get a message requesting some registration #   We have entered the serial # from the back of the new computer but still can't open the files.  Any ideas? Thanks. My only guess WOULD be that they open in different applications. Are you sure they're all word files, and are opening in word? I'd say it's MS Office asking for #, but if it's only on XP laptop's files, I'm not so sure... and anyway, Office on new PC shouldn't need that... Have you LOOKED around for Office or Works Suite discs and tried entering number from back of those? Usually it's on a sticker or something.
Good luck! And remember, OpenOffice on Linux (or even on Windows) can read Office files, for free!

Solve : Are all Laptop Hardrives compatible with any Lapto?

Answer»

Hi all, i recently bought a LAPTOP on ebay and it needs a harddrive, i also have another laptop one but its a different model of compaq, and i was MESSING with and figured i might as well see if the harddrive from that one FIT my other one, and it did! So now im wondering why should i pay alot more for a specific model hardrive if i can get a much cheaper one that is not necessarly specific to my model laptop (compaq presario 1505us). Well, let me know if u guys happen to know about this matter. If it fits, that most likely means it will work. Assuming it won't matter (much) if you break laptop or HD, I'd go for it; saving money is always GOOD. Here is an article about laptop hard drives:

Solve : laptop screen brightness?

Answer»

i just bought a laptop, it started up nice and fine and when i plugged it in, it went nice and bright, then i took it out and it went darker to save power like it's supposed to, but now when i plug it in it doesn't get BRIGHTER again.  what did i do to my pretty new laptop?  i must have done something in between.

thanks. There USUALLY is an Fn button on laptops; it may be a different color. On the keys, particularly things like the arrows and PAGE up and down, there are words or symbols, in TEH color of the Fn key, taht represwent what they do when you hold down Fn and press them. Usually, the up and down arrows adjust brightness, so TRY holding down Fn or another key you don't find on desktop (if you don't have fn), and pressing arrows. If that doesn't work, try searching manufactorer's website, or call them - you didn't do anything wrong. good luck!

Solve : A few problems I need help with?

Answer»

1. Whenever I TRY and visit a site on AOL, it says that there are some things missing with content advisor, YET when I check it, there aren't. This also happens with explorer, but I can get past that (it's still annoying).

2. I can't install any new AOL versions, because apparently there is a script error. I have tried multiple discs but none work, and I can't see a problem.

3. I did a 'disc cleanup' with that tool and accidently deleted my computer health FILES. Is this bad? What can I do?

4. Whenever I start up my computer, I always have to do alt+ctrl+dlt to stop 'Msinfo', otherwise my computer is really slow and laggy.

Thanks in advance.Since AOL is completely dependent on the health of Internet Explorer, I'd suggest you reinstall or upgrade your Internet Explorer to fix your AOL Problems.  You might also, uninstall your TCP/IP network - REBOOT - and reinstall your TCP/IP network and reboot.  Good luck.Anything disk cleanup deletes for you is OK to lose. Solve : stop.bat virus or something?

Answer»

hi. can anyone HELP me? i scanned my computer and it said that in C:\\WINDOWS\stop.bat there was a virus named Bat/StopAV, which i could't find on any virus list. the text of the PROGRAM is as follows:

net stop Mcshield
net stop "Norton Antivirus SERVICE"
net stop "Panda Antivirus"
net stop "TrendMicro Infrastructure"
net stop "ZoneAlarm"
set fuckms="McAfee Framework Service"
net stop "DETECTOR de OfficeScanNT"
net stop %fuckms%
del %windir%\system32\stop.bat /q

i'm naive to that kind of language, so i don't understand what does it all means. i read somewhere that the program mya be deleted if it has no vital information, but is there anything that would enrisk my computer if i delete the FILE? what does the stop.bat file do?

Solve : not able to access?

Answer»

My home page comes up blank. When I'm on e-Bay, if I click on a picture to view it as the main picture, it does NOTHING. If I right-click on that picture to open it in a NEW window, it comes up as page cannot be displayed. Other certain WEBSITES that I used to go to no longer work. Pop-cap games, for example. Nothing comes up as clickable on this website anymore. And I can not USE certain buttons, either. My fiance has a home business and can no longer use her Pro-pay account. When she clicks the button to get to it, nothing happens. Is this a Java thing. I had an error come up that said something about java. I am running Windows ME. CAN ANYONE PLEASE HELP ME!!!If these errors are Java related, you should download the latest JRE from Sun. http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html

Click on the Download J2SE JRE link at the center of the page. This will bring you to EULA agreement, click on 'Accept' then on 'Continue.' The next page will provide download links. You'll want "Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language  (j2re-1_4_2_04-windows-i586-p.exe, 14.52 MB)."

If you're still having problems after that, a repair of INTERNET Explorer is in order. If you've updated IE from its default version, there should be an entry in Add/Remove Programs (in the Control Panel) for Microsoft Internet Explorer x (where x is the version number). Click on "Change/Remove" and there should be an option to repair IE. You'll want to do this.

You could try an alternate browser such as Mozilla (http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/mozilla/releases/mozilla1.6/mozilla-win32-1.6-installer.exe). You'll need to reinstall SunJava's JRE after installing Mozilla.

Solve : help on USB ports?

Answer» HELLO folks, I am not a computer wizard and seek help from you – I bought a external hard drive with USB 2.0 hi speed 480 MB/s connection. When I try to use it with my laptop ( IBM R32) I get the message as “the USB device has exceeded the POWER limits of the hub port” and at times it says, “this mass storage device will function at a lower speed etc, but never I could detect this external hard drive. Can I expect help please! Thanks.Firstly, unless you have USB 2.0 prots, you won't get the whole speed; it looks like that's what ONE error's for. The other one; it appears that your laptop can't provide enough juice for the drive; did it come with power cable? Perhaps you should buy USB 2.0 PCMIA CARD; some also have power connectors, and it would GREATLY increase speed. Good luck!
