Hi Support TEAM,
I have Virtual Audio Cable successfully installed on my Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 x64 virtual machine. It seem like driver works (new audio device in Device Manager group and VAC control panel works perfectly), but UNFORTUNATELY if I go to Control Panel -> Hardware -> Sound there is no audio devices (neither playback or recording). And so my software doesn't see any audio devices.
It is virtual machine with no physical sound CARD. I CONNECT to it using Remote Desktop.
Is this known issue? Is it possible to get VAC WORKING on such machine?
If you have any suggestion for getting VAC , please update me asap.

or if you have any Virtual sound card which can be installed on Virtual Server , Please let me know.

Win2K goes on C and then J (which is used to mirror everything on the primary HD).

My QUESTION: How to put Win2K on J without it being changed to D. My past experience is that the OS automatically labels the second OS install partition "D"
and won't allow the letter to be changed.
Unlike WinNT4 which did allow such change.

Would this approach work:
1. Install primary and secondary HDs with OS on C.

2. Partition secondary HD as J,K,L,M.

3. Remove primary HD and install OS on
secondary J (now connected as a primary).

I can struggle thru this on a trial and ERROR basis,
but was hoping that someone in your group might have already
done a similar procedure and would know the best way to

Trying too setup a Web Server, for the local Radio Station I work at. I have Web Server 2008 R INSTALLED, IIS 6 which, I can't seem too update and not sure what I need too do to make the Index FILE show, when I go to enter it in the browserWelcome to the forum.
Please provide some additional information about how far along you are in the project. Do you already have a website up and running? Also, you should let us know something about your prior experience in setting up any kind of website.
Without that information, let me guess about who you are and what you're doing. Likely I'm wrong.
let's say you are a radio engineer with several years experience in a him or FM radio broadcasting. Maybe even a little bit of television. But up to now you have not done much with the Internet and Web servers. Possibly you have some skills with the computers and programming and do some of the things needed by your radio station for the administration of the business.
At the present time, the most practical and economical way to get a web presence is simply it somebody else do it for you. For reasonable fees somebody will set up a server somewhere and put your stuff on it and make you a nice basic business presence on the Internet. Of course, you will have control over the content and management of the Web server. But the Web servers really a machine that is shared by several different people, each one with their own private account. You will access your part of the server through both HTML and FTP programs. The monthly fee for such a fervent services quite reasonable compared to some of the other business services that you have paid each month. Likely the Web server would cost you each month about the same as you pay for your Internet CONNECTION or your telephone service. In other words, somewhere between $25-$100 a month. At that price level you can afford to spend much of your own personal time getting into figure out how the thing works.
Now then, that was my wild guess. I do hope you really have a lot more experience and that you know what you are doing.
As for myself, I have had several years in commercial AM broadcasting and I would never attempt to bring up a server all by myself. I've always used services provided by others. Therefore I am not qualified to give you any information about how to bring up a WINDOWS server. Maybe Linux, because I'm accustomed to Linux. But not Windows.

I have Web Server 2008 setup, on a unit that we want too host a small site featuring the business that I work for. I tried too FIND tutorials on it about setting it up but, no real luck. I know that we have port the Server. I was told that IIS needed updated from 6 too a newer version but, I don't know how. I also, have test files too check once we have it running. We want it too be external. The site it's self isn't a top priority without the host too run it.Is there a reason why your not just going with a web host vs hosting your own?

I am the administrator of a small LAN in a corporate environment. There are two SERVERS on the LAN, with one being used as a combination DNS server and test database server. After having been out of the OFFICE for four days, I returned to find the following error message displayed by Dr. Watson for Windows NT. It reads as follows:

An application error has occurred and an application error log is being generated. Isasrv.exe Exception access violation (0xc0000005), Address: 0x0040c1ff

The server is working normally and we have not experienced any problems with our NETWORK, nor connecting to our company's network, etc. Doing a search on Google for the Isasrv.exe application reveals nothing. Google asks if I mean Lsasrv.exe, which I do not.

There have been no changes to the server in at least a week with the last one being updates from Microsoft being installed over a week ago.

This is a very old IBM PC 330 Server running a six disk RAID and will be replaced within the next few months. I just need to know if anyone has any knowledge of what this application is, what it does and what could have caused the error. The server has not been rebooted and only a regularly scheduled Norton Corporate Edition Antivirus scan that runs every weekend has been run as usual.

OK, Isasrv.dll is a dynamic link library file on Windows Server 2003, as this knowledge base article indicates:

So, my guess is that Isasrv.exe is a network operating system file. Try doing a search for the file on the server and checking out it's properties to see if the file is a Microsoft one.

The error you are experiencing may possibly be explained by this knowledge base article:

But only if you have an older version of Symantec's corporate antivirus program installed.

I'd like to ask that you check the Event Viewer (Start > Programs > Administrative Tools) to see if any of the errors and warnings listed give a clue as to the cause.

DocThe event number is 4097 and the description is the same as what I placed in my original post (see the bold text). The source is shown as Dr.Watson. I am GOING to watch and see if it occurs again this weekend and if so, I'll know it is the Corporate NAV. We are running the most current release, but it was installed two or three weeks ago. I guess as long as the server continues to function properly, I'll just monitor the situation.

I've installed a windows trial server 2012r2 in English and set the location or rather the date & currency format to Dutch Nederlands because in Belgium where i am only azerty with either Dutch or French is allowed by default at least , yes i know what a bummer, to think that years and years ago they slit people's throats here for getting the pronunciation wrong, ANDD that meant you was probably linguistically frenchized... anyways .
I'm about to create a self signed cert but the default location of the server and the cert's initial entry is NL , my geotrust cert is assigned to BE (anyways and it's in PEM format for Apache) , so i want to create my own for testing purposes but i'm facing yet again another location dilemma . If i go change the location of server to Belgium will it revert my keyboard to azerty and possibly conflict with language ?

I have a need to update a main batch (.cmd) file, sub-scripts, and folders when out of date. The batch is part of an internal process that collects information off of Windows 2003, 2008 & 2012. We are using batch and a little VBS because it works on all servers that we have on our environment. We cannot install anything or utilize any tools that modify the registry. As this task was limited to windows 2003 and a few 2008 servers, an extensive process was not needed. Our success has initiated the task of doing the same on all of our servers world wide. These servers do not have access to anything outside of the coperate Intranet without considerable red tape.
Basicly, I would like to set up some sort of version checking that continues to run the main script if all scripts and sub-scripts are up to date ... OR ... if the main script sees that something (including itself) is older than the latest MASTER (globally accessable location), an update of the scripts/files/folders is executed.
I have made a couple attempts at this by trying to "START" a secondary .cmd in a TEMP folder that calls for the new files to be downloaded when the version indicated in the main script does not match the version indicated in a text file on the "master" server.
I realize there are many apps out there that can do this specific THING but I have been told that I will not get authorization to install any of these. I have been told that I will soon be able to do this from PowerShell, but this may be 5-6 months away. I must start on Monday (17 May 2016). I have run out of time and I have waited too long to reach out for help. Soooo ... please help.Quote

It doesn't matter if the drive is internal or external. What matters is that AD sees the share as an object and that you set up the domain controller to FEED the users this share. It doesn’t just happen.

If you have the share setup right, you should go to a workstation and browse to the server with the share and see it. Once that works you can WORK on feeding the share as a mapped drive to your users.

All of this sounds LIKE you need to read up on how AD works.

Dear Friends

I want to restrict the AD user id with terminal (IP address wise). We have fully functional ACTIVE Directory and now we have security access issue if one AD user log into the different PC other than his one. Then he can view hard drives of particular local PC. Therefore I want to block every AD user login from other PC except his one. I search and try many solution but unable to find proper solution for this matter. Please help me out to solve this problem.

SanWhy not store important data on a server where you can more control of who has permissions to file and folders. Data stored locally is a bad setup. The local system loses its hard drive and a employee loses their work.

Change default save locations to server side storage which is backed up and protected by RAID hopefully.

Restrict access to employees to only access specific computers and perform a script audit that scans the local profile location of a computer such as if XP C:\Documents and Settings or 7 C:\Users etc. Send out a global notice to all employees making them aware of the penalty of logging into anothers computer. Possible Termination of Employment if caught on the wrong computer etc. Have a written policy in place!

*Each user should have a unique user name and password. If they logon to a system that they should not be on you will find fast who it is. They wont have the ability to delete their freshly created profile on the computer they logged into. Your audit will find that someone unauthorized would have a profile on wrong computer. Data that is stored in their profiles with user level permissions will not have access to other local users profile data. Only data out side of the profile storage location could be accessible by others jumping onto unauthorized computers.

If you have a rogue employee that is snooping or a problem, follow the proper means of building a CASE against them, notify them that they could be terminated as a result of non compliance, and terminate their employment if it leads to that.

If these are laptops in which people need to be able to store data locally and then upload it when at work later I could see a need to have local storage on the laptop for the users. Best method of someone not to have access to the data on that said laptop would be to have a BIOS Password on the laptop. This will require 2 passwords. One for the laptop to boot and the other to logon. If your concerned about someone using a tool on the hard drive to get the data then encrypt the data. Additional means of data protection I have seen are laptop users who use ENCRYPTED password protected USB Flash Drives. When the USB stick is inserted into a computer a password is needed to gain access to the data on the thumb drive.You shouldn't really be restricting it like this, half the point of active directory is to allow people to roam between devices. As Dave said, important data should be stored on a network share that is restricted to each user. EVEN if you restrict to IP address there is nothing stopping someone maliciously bypassing the local administrator password or booting the machine into an alternative OS and accessing the files that way. At least with the files stored safely on a remote machine, people can't easily get PHYSICAL access to it. If you must use local storage and can't have people seeing other users files, then the appropriate permissions should be set accordingly on each workstation.

I know that when you share drives on a network that you can set it spefic to everyone on certain USERS but, how do I set it to certain users that have like active directory on the server. Is it the same as a regular share?Some say, myself included, saring a drive is not a good IDEA. Instead prepare a drive or partition to have just one directory and share taht directory. Yes, that is not a requjirement, just a way to keep on's sanity. That allows lfor yhou to creat another directoru in the future with differnet restrictions.

The fundamental concepisto have shares available to users, This means tghat all users must have some credentials. Any user not verified has to be a 'guest' and can only rad a few rfestricted items. I can't understand what your saying ... Let's start over.

I have a large office of my business, I have multiple printers and other MACHINES connected to network of computers. Each networked PRINTER has its own IP address. This IP address helps me diagnose problems if a printer stops working correctly. Many printers allow me to see the IP address through a menu on the LCD display. But Some printer doesn't have this capability. I have find the IP address servel times but nothing results found. So please anyone helps me to find remaining printers ip address.

If you can't find an IP address of a network printer from the menu display or your printer is connected to a printer server with no display, you may find its address from any networked computer configured to use the printer. To find the printer IP address from a Windows machine, perform the following.

Start -> Printers and Faxes, or Start -> Control Panel -> Printers and Faxes
Right-click the printer name, and left-click Properties
Click the Ports tab, and widen the first column which displays IP address of the printers

3. If your networked printer uses DHCP, you may connect to your router and find the IP address of the printer from DHCP status page. The router displays all host machines that are assigned dynamic IP ADDRESSES.
What kinds of printers do you have? If you have something like an HP JetDirect, you can press or hold down the reset button (check the manual first, though) to print a status page with the IP address.

I use SoftPerfect Network Scanner very often to find IP addresses on my network. It can be configured to scan for open web ports, which a printer would be using for its MANAGEMENT interface. It will also display the mac address of everything on the network, with manufacture details, so you can sort it out to show what devices are of X brand, and then pick through them to find your lost devices.
Once you've found the info you need, start making labels!

If you've got quite a few printers, it might make sense to set up a print management server. I use the one built into Windows Server and am pretty happy with it. That way you can install and troubleshoot from one location and it keeps TRACK of your printer info for you and provides drivers for all your clients.

I have obtained the CompTIA A+ and Net+ certs and am wondering what route to take toward an MCSA certification.

Microsoft doesn't require that i take take any other electives. However, after seeing some of the exam questions at braindumpcentral.com for the MCP cert i'm interested in pursuing, i'm wondering if i need to go for Server+ and perhaps Security+ first. Does anyone have any ideas?

Also, i've found the exam prep. download from TestKing.com was one of the best ways to prepare for the CompTIA certs, but i don't know about their Microsoft cert practice exams. Anybody have an exam prep. method they'd recommend?

Any opinion will be appreciated.

Microsoft approves MeasureUP for exam preparations.

Are you going for server 2003 MCSA or MCSE, either one your better choice will be take the server one first (70-290 exam2274) because it contains (no exam2275) prepares you solidly for network addressing. MCSA requires 4 exams one of them is an elective, since you don't need the elective you could do the 3 cores. Good luck to you Thanks Stogy-MAN! Do they have a Web site i may check out?

Yeah, when i grow up (some day) i'll get MCSA certified. Right now i'm just working toward an MCP.

Since i have little experience with domain controllers, i thought i'd focus on the client-side by preparing for exam 70-270 (Installing, Configuring and Administering Microsoft Windows XP Professional). I purchased the $60 book put out by Microsoft Press to prepare for exam. The info. in the text is not hard to grasp, but doesn't cover half the questions i've seen on the 70-270 exam posted at braindumpcentral.com.

Anyhow, i've just signed up for a $2,000 class (since my employer is covering the whole cost) to prepare for the exam. I guess i'll decide after i take the class whether or not i need to go for Server+ and Security+ prior to going for the MCP.

The truth is, i've learned more by trying to understand the questions as much as seeing what others believe are the answers. I consider these resources a starting point, not the source of all info. i need to pass the exams. I'd also have to say that the questions and answers provided by these resources cover no more than 50% of the questions i've found on the exams. Hence, they don't guarantee that one will pass, they only make it more likely.

I'd compare these resources to the time when i took those SAT practice exams (back in the day before CD players and Microsoft Windows)! If it were immoral (or even illegal) to prepare for an exam by taking previous versions of that exam, then why did my school system (and countless others) give the SAT practice tests to their students? Was it wrong for teachers to explain why certain answers to the questions were correct and why other answers were incorrect (even when some of the questions would APPEAR on the actual exam their students would take)? Did any teachers go to prison or receive chastisment for having immoral conduct by preparing us for the exams?

The answer, i think you will agree, is no. I don't see how braindumpscentral.com and other resources are any different. But then, i had philosophy as a second major in college.

Doc Thats your perogative man. If you can get the cert using these tools then more power to you. Alot of people that I have talked to do not reccomend these tools becuse they are BRAINDUMPS. IMO they really do not teach you anything. I am in my last semester and have had teachers that give us practice tests that are the same questions that are on the test. I can go and memorize the answers, and ace the test. What did I learn? nothing.

Yeah, you want to understand why the answer is what answer it is. You do that by reading the material and mastering the concept, so you know what answers are wrong. Not buy using the actual test questions as a study guide.

I work with 645 users over a network of 80 computers RUNNING under Server 2003. Does ANYONE know of a way to print the user name on each printed ouitput automatically NOT using the seperator page option. They require it on EVERY page.

Was this perhaps a copy of Server that was from a corporate liscense ? ?This is a brand new server and I just created this folder for archiving. There is nothing inside of it. I'm having this issue with multiple folders that I've created on this drive.Then something is not setup proper in Admin controlswhat do the permissions look like in the root of the drive?
Also, try using the command line to verify permissions (USE icacls.exe for this).

Have you resolved the issue?

If not, have you checked the share and NTFS permissions to make sure the use is there or a member of a group that has access?
Are you using Active Directory?

Also, out of interest, why did you install server 2008 as it goes END of life in just about 18 months.

I don't RECALL the password that I used which, I used from my College text book but, with the moves not sure where the book is. I don't recall the title of it just that it taught you Server 2008 an came with a TRIAL COPY of all the OS's till you gave it a key. I had two versions of a document saved on my computer; one on the desktop, one in a file folder in My Documents. I thought I was working with the document in the file folder in My Documents (we'll call it the "My Doc" file), but I was ACTUALLY working with the desktop file (Desktop). I WANTED to update and save My Doc while keeping the other version (Desktop) as it originally was before the update (making a sort of archive of progress with the document). But, INSTEAD of doing that, I got confused and saved Desktop as the changed, new version, and then, in a effort to make sure I was SAVING the right document, did a Save As and saved (and replaced) the My Doc file. So my questions are:

Is there anyway that I can revert to the original document (before I Save and Save As'd the documents), in either the Desktop or My Documents? Is there an AutoRecovery file or something like that that may have been preserved before I saved both documents as the new, changed file? Only if you have Shadow Copy on say a Windows Server 2003 box or another 3rd party protection utility enabled could you be able to get it back. If same name and overwritten, and no backup...there is nothing to be DONE to get it back to its previous state that I know of....sorry!


I set my data like this to READ-ONLY to avoid this same issue in addition to frequent backups to external media.

Had downloaded service pack and was installing when a message came up about where to put a file named **boot.sys so i canclled the install, restarted my computer, it went to a screen saying somthing like restoring system configuration, then we blue screened with the message saying:

boot.sys is a file that is neededfor windows startup. if you have a windows xp install disk, you need to use the recovery console and replace the file.Was this Service Pack 3 ? ?
There are some issues with it.
Can you boot into safemode ? ?
Have you installed any software/hardware recently other than the SP ? ?Sorry i thought it said SP3 in the title. Not cannot boot in safe or on last known config. No NEW soaftware has been installed recently, maybe a fash or shockwave but that all i can think about.

PHP and MySQL just simply wont work.
When I try accessing my blog system (wordpress) ( www.zylstrablog.co.nr/wordpress ) (link might not work, I need to fix the uptime issue by having it automatically ping itself every 5 minutes) I get:

On other PHP web applications, like SMF, I get nothing.

I have no idea what to do, its just not working.

Hello all.

I have two networks, Network A and Network B. These networks are, of course, separate from one ANOTHER and are actually contained in two separate buildings.

Network A has a Windows Server 2003 machine residing on it. This machine will be set up to act as a file server. Users who are directly connected to Network A will have no problem retrieving or storing files on the machine. Network B is another story.

How do I get users on Network B to be able to connect to the file server on Network A? Can it be set up on the file server running Windows Server 2003? I assume this is solved with a VPN, but I don't know how to set one up.

Also, all users will be running Windows XP (and a few ME) on their client machines. Both networks are mixed with wired and wireless connections.

There can be no physical connection or wireless connection between the networks, they buildings they reside in are simply too far apart.

Can the machine that I am using as a file server also be set up to run the VPN? The machine is running Windows Server 2003 and I notice there is an OPTION to set up a role called Remote Routing and VPN.

Or do you need a separate machine to do the VPN? I have never set up a VPN before and I may be slightly unclear as to what they can accomplish.

I am running win xp pro and when I go to format my secondary hard drive I go into My Cpmuter and right click on my secondary hard drive.

Picking the default may save you some TROUBLE down the road... and FAT is generally for floppy disks.512 bytes is default sector size. A cluster is one or more sectors.

Default VALUES that Windows NT/2000/XP USES for NTFS formatting:

However, when you format the partition manually, you can specify cluster size 512 bytes, 1 KB, 2 KB, 4 KB, 8 KB, 16 KB, 32 KB, 64 KB in the format dialog box


Larger cluster sizes give better performance but means that if you have lots of small files you will waste disk space.

Cluster Size

A cluster (or allocation unit) is the smallest amount of disk space that can be allocated to hold a file. All file systems used by Windows XP Professional organize hard disks based on cluster size, which is determined by the number of sectors that the cluster contains. For EXAMPLE, on a disk that uses 512-byte sectors, a 512-byte cluster contains one sector, whereas a 4-KB cluster contains eight sectors.

FAT16, FAT32, and NTFS each use different cluster sizes depending on the size of the volume, and each file system has a maximum number of clusters it can support. The smaller the cluster size, the more efficiently a disk stores information because unused space within a cluster cannot be used by other files. And the more clusters that are supported, the larger the volumes you can create and format by using a particular file system.


* Windows XP Professional formats FAT32 volumes up to 32 GB regardless of cluster size. To format volumes larger than 32 GB, you must use NTFS. However, Windows XP Professional can mount FAT32 volumes larger than 32 GB that were created by other operating systems.

In the Disk Management snap-in, you can specify a cluster size of up to 64 KB when you format a volume. If you use the format command to format a volume but do not specify a cluster size by using the /a:size parameter, the default values in Table 13-4 are used. To change the cluster size after the volume is formatted, you must reformat the volume.


Before you choose a cluster size other than the default, note the following important limitations:

* For Microsoft Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003, and Windows XP Professional, the cluster size of FAT16 volumes from 2 GB through 4 GB is 64 KB, which can create compatibility issues with some applications. For example, setup programs do not compute free space properly on a volume with 64-KB clusters and cannot run because of a perceived lack of free space. For this reason, you must use either NTFS or FAT32 to format volumes larger than 2 GB. The format command in Windows XP Professional displays a warning and asks for a confirmation before formatting a volume that has 64-KB clusters using FAT16.

* Windows XP Professional, like Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 2000, supports file compression. Because file compression is not supported on cluster sizes above 4 KB, the default NTFS cluster size for Windows XP Professional never exceeds 4 KB. For more information about NTFS compression, see “File Compression” later in this chapter.

Hello All, I am a newbie and I have some strange errors. One of my end users are using the dos copy command on a windows 2000 server copying to a windows 2003 server. When he copies a text file from one server to the other, some of the data is being corrupted. It normally is just 1 0r 2 characters that change. This text file is then encrypted to one of our clients but they've been complaining that we are sending them bad data. This process is normally automated and runs by itself. We may run this process 50 times and get 5 or 6 bad copies. Have anyone ever heard of anything like this, we called MS and they did not really have any answers. If the file has a "." it will be changed to a "/" or vise versa. I am at my wits in because we can not find the source of the problem. Everyone thinks its the copy command, we even substituted to the move command and it ran fine for 2 weeks and now we just found out that we have SENT them another bad file. We are grasping at straws here. If anyone has a different SOLUTION or heard of this before please let me know.

Additionally I would like to run the copy command without xp_cmdshell (creating a job /batch file and schedule it using Windows task scheduler) – just to be sure that xp_cmdshell is not changing the behavior.

Suggest you stress test the system memory of both systems using a reliable standalone memory test program such as MemTest86 (www.memtest86.com). A problem with memory (or the memory subsystem) COULD modify the data passed through it.

You may also have to verify the integrity of the entire data path between the Windows 2000 Server to Windows 2003 Server system to see if bits are intermitently being dropped and/or added.

I'm assuming this isn't a DOS copy command problem.The copy command has a /v switch for verifying the output data is written correctly. It may slow down the copy operation.

Small business, using a web app on local server. (SBS 2003 with all patches, etc) The server was setup by the web app company. The server is a domain controller. All PCs are on the domain, using domain logons. We have problems where there is very slow response from the APPLICATION...sometimes. This happens all the TIME from one particular XP client and also working directly from the server, but maybe to a lesser degree. Typing in boxes in the forms were sometimes excruciatingly slow. As you type, the text doesn't show up right away, but seems to stay in a buffer and then shows up seconds later. Also, pressing buttons doesn't always have an immediate effect - sometimes you wait seconds before the effect of the button press happens.

After speaking with the Web App company, we decided it wasn't a problem with the app or the web service IIS config but seems more to be a networking problem. All physical network problems have been ruled out. So it's not a Media Layer problem but a Host Layer problem somewhere.

After testing, I've found that the problem follows the PC and not the user. In other words, we have the slowness when logging into the web app on the server directly and on PC2.

WHAT the heck is happening here?

One other bit of info that may help pinpoint the problem: It seems that when the programmer guy from the web app company - I'll call him tech support - remotes into the server using remote desktop - terminal services - it doesn't happen but when he remotes into the server using VNC it DID happen for him today. I can't explain exactly how those two methods are different, but I know they are. You probably know more about it than I but I believe with remote desktop he's creating a separate NEW virtual desktop session because when he's RD'ed in, I don't see his actions and he doesn't see mine on the server, but with VNC, it's more of a video hook that simply displays and gives control of what's directly on screen for the logged on user. So - WHATEVER you call that, it seems to happen for one and not the other.

I'll check CPU load, but I'm almost certain it's not that - for another reason, if it's a cpu load problem on the server it should affect all XP clients at that time and it doesn't. Only the one pc and the server are affected.

I did what you said, and my MACHINE only says Windows XP Media Center Edition. 32

I don't think that they ever put out a 64 bit version.

Vista, XP Pro, Server 2003 have 64 bit versions. Not MCE.

yea i mean log in as in log in on my mahine but at a local computer and i mean in the local network i.e homeXP can't do that. (Not that I'm aware of anyway).
You will need WINDOWS Server 2003 (or NEWER) with Terminal Services.

Networking between the virtual machine and the host machine works like it would between two regular MACHINES, and you can map network drives just as you would a real machine.

A few days AGO my server installed a Windows Update (it was a Service Pack update, I wasn't really paying attention to which number).
Anyway, the following day my server won't connect to the internet. I'm guessing that the Windows Update perhaps CHANGED a setting that I am unaware of. Since I know very little about SERVERS I'm a bit nervous to change things in case I make everything worse.

Anyone GOT any ideas?

My problem started out with games, now with music, etc.
I thought I had Java 5 INSTALLED on my," Windows 98se IE 6."
I was wrong. I deleted the old versions,
and what I thought I had installed.
I went and downloaded Java 5 again,
but when the box came up to install, I clicked on it and this came up:

Installed:Wrapper.CreateFile failed with error 32 the process
cannot access the FILE because it is being used by another process.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Please Help me!!!hmm, I don't recall having too many problems when I joined my Vista machine to the server 2003 box. I set up the computer, and I created an account on the 2003 box with permissions to add computers to the domain. JUMPED back onto the Vista box, went to add the computer to the domain, and it asked me for a login, and all was well after that. You could dig through the SECURITY policies to see if there's anything preventing it, but I wouldn't know where to tell you to start with that.

Does WINDOWS 2000 support remote desktop protocol? And if so, how do I enable a computer to accept it? For example, in Windows XP you right click "My Computer", select properties, remote tab and enable it.

And WELCOME to CH ! !No, Windows 2000 does not support the server, that was an XP and forward technology. What Patio provided was the client, which can be installed back to Win95, used to CONNECT to computers that can RUN the server (XP Pro, Server 2003, Vista Business and above, Windows Home Server, etc.)

You can however use other applications, such as VPN, to do practically the same thing.Or you can use RealVNC, which is a lot easier to set up than VPN (I usually would leave VPN for more business related networks).

I took a Buslink USB HARD Drive L series and removed the 13 GB Seagate hard drive and installed a 40 Gb Seagate Hard Drive in it.

I installed the Buslink drivers for XP because it's not a standard USB Mass Media Device. The drivers worked fine on a 2003 Server and an XP Pro system. When I tried to use it on my XP LAPTOP which is running XP Home it is unable to find the drivers.

I thought the problem might be related to the USB power output from my USB ports so I put a POWERED hub between the laptop and drive. My laptop sees the device but can't find the drivers.

In device manager it's listed as a USB-ATAPI4 Bridge ControllerIt's quite possible EITHER the laptop MBoard lacks that device or it's not supported in XPHome...
I'll check on XPHome while you post your laptop specs...

Hi there, I have an issue with my IBM Server (System x3400). For some reason, it turns on the sleep mode, and I don't know how to restablish it to normal mode, because the power switch buttom LOOKS LIKE doesn't work in this mode. I'd tried to move with the keyboard and double click with the mouse and nothing. The only way to turn on again is using a several solution: "Disconnecting the power AC supply cable" and CONNECTING again before 20 seconds. This is the only way that it works, but no other.

I think that this feature is not rigth, because everybody knows that the machines couldn't be disconnected like this.

File Permission Issue
I’m currently having a file permission issue with my Windows 2003 server. I have a file SHARE and users have all ABILITIES but “Full control, Change Permissions, and Take Ownership” on files and directories in that share. YET users are able to deny access to other users, EVEN the administrator. They can’t change anything else but the deny permissions. How can I disable them from denying other users access? I noticed it only allows the user to change the deny permissions if they are the owner of the file or folder.
