Answer» I had an MSI board that would randomly crash because of a defective USB controller. That was funny, never saw anything like that before. Quote I had an MSI board that would randomly crash because of a defective USB controller. That was funny, never saw anything like that before. sounds like somthing this thing would do to me... im tring to remember the random crap this thing has given me... too many things to list though, lol. oh, i downgraded to my old Nvidia again, but, its S-video PLUG is like... 7 pin, my ATI is 9 pin, so the adapter wont work, and i have no idea where my home made adapter is. EDIT: i am going to start a poll to see peoples opinions on MSI products...Oh Joy ! ! Another poll...i can hardly wait.Quote QuoteI had an MSI board that would randomly crash because of a defective USB controller. That was funny, never saw anything like that before. I think you can simply rip out the pins you don't need. But don't quote me on that. Quote QuoteQuoteI had an MSI board that would randomly crash because of a defective USB controller. That was funny, never saw anything like that before. if i had needle nose pliers, i might try it... but i dont. the 9 pin is just for the later version of the card that has a tv tuner built in (mine just has a next to useless 9 pin s-video plug)I believe RAPTOR was being facetious...Quote I believe Raptor was being facetious... No, I was on the phone with a senior staff member who recommended that I pull out the pins for a customer because the converter for VGA to DVI didn't fit. 4 pins too many. But he also said that if it didn't work, the guy could come back and get a new converter. Quote QuoteI believe Raptor was being facetious... i dont see why removing the four pins wouldnt, the wires still go in the same place, they arnt needed in one area, why should they be in another? oh, good news, job program is go, worked today. replaced a PSU with a dead fan, and a dead CD burner. also re installed windows 2000 on one, and XP on another, very simple stuff, but, heh, if it gets me out of school even ALITTLE early to deal with computers (i would rather deal with computers, they can only beep at you), then i am happy. i am going to buy another board for this PC, and use this as a multimedia centre PC (so i dont have to have all of my danged movies on my gaming PC) i also found an old working 52x cd drive in the junk bin, was jammed, i just used the emergency release on it. it has the play\fastforward BUTTON, and the stop\eject button, so i can supply power to it, and run a cable to my amp and use it as a stand alone unit . also found an old IDE controler card (PCI), going to test it later. the shop is locally owned by the manager, he needs all the help he can get (and my wage isnt coming out of his wallet, so he cant complain, free labor to him). i am going to go on a search through his shop if he will let me for any old socket 370 boards, i can build a few servers, i have 6 old socket 370 CPU's that WORK, 1 700mhz celeron, 4 700 mhz PIII's, and one 1.4 or 1.5 ghz celeron. the PII's and the 1.4 need a home, so, i am going to GIVE them one. what i am going to do with 8 running PC's (this one, the old 370's, and my new one) i do not know, but, you can never be too prepared. once i get them built, i can put them to various uses, firewall, internet, server, ect. all of the CPU's came from HP's (odd, but TRUE). my computer has suffered some... minor injuries since the last few crashes... the dents where done with my keyboard (bottom corner in the pic), the half moon was done with my fist when the stupid thing fell off shortly after a crash (i had not hit it with the keyboard then, it just fell off for no reason)Quote well, apparently my problem will be solved in a couple of weeks, i know somone who works for microsoft, microsoft upgrades there computers MONTHLY, and throws out the "old" ones, i am getting a harldly used HP with a gig of ram, 3.0 ghz dual core CPU with 2mb of cache, dvd burner w/ dual layer and lightscribe tech. wireless keyboard, mouse, speakers, and a web cam. also a printer, scanner, and god knows what software. its all worth about 2 or 3 grand. im not paying a thing for it, i am saving it from the dump. Let me get this right. Microsoft throws $2000 computers in Redmond into a dump in Arizona so the peasants can pick over them? Is that because they are not Vista capable?Quote Quotewell, apparently my problem will be solved in a couple of weeks, i know somone who works for microsoft, microsoft upgrades there computers MONTHLY, and throws out the "old" ones, i am getting a harldly used HP with a gig of ram, 3.0 ghz dual core CPU with 2mb of cache, dvd burner w/ dual layer and lightscribe tech. wireless keyboard, mouse, speakers, and a web cam. also a printer, scanner, and god knows what software. its all worth about 2 or 3 grand. im not paying a thing for it, i am saving it from the dump. pretty much... it DOES explain how they have drivers for just about every piece of hardware when it comes out. oh, i need help finding drivers for this card that work in XP (i assume that is why they didnt use it). EDIT: atleast i can diss other peoples PC's on Counter Strike: source when i get the HP . they use to diss my celery, and stuff, but now... hehehe.... now, i can diss there WEAK 2.8ghz pentium D's. hehehe, revenge is so sweet... |

Solve : How do you change the Language?? |
|
Answer» ok i'm trying to change the language to my computer to spanish so i can send it to my cousin in mexico. i tried the "regional and language settings", but it only converts some text. so i called microsoft and they said go to support.microsoft.com. i did and all i can find was the Language Interface packs. after i proved that my comp was genuine it only offers a readme file. but i can't find anywhere to download this stuff. any help would be appreciated. thanksYou can't. All versions of Windows are localized. Call Microsoft back and tell them Raptor told you that. What? Am I wrong? I don't think so. :-?No, you are correct sir. Run the kill! Quote No, you are correct sir. Run the kill! I have a better idea. Phone Microsoft and tell them to run the kill! They have already done that. Hven't you heard of Vista?Quote They have already done that. Hven't you heard of Vista? Whoa here, bad advice given. Shame Raptor, shame GX1_MAN, shame patio. You are all sentenced to 12 hours in the guillotine, the ONE right out there on main street. Win XP (English) definitely does support other languages: List of languages supported in Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Server 2003. Last year, a Korean friend who is a US resident has a relative visiting from Korea. He wanted to send email to Korea, in Korean. I researched the issue and learned that, indeed, Korean and many other languages can be installed on Win XP. I tested the procedure on my computer and after successfully installing Korean, I did the same on her computer. I had removed Korean but reinstalled it after reading this post. Note that this did not involve downloading anything. As I recall, I did have to insert my Win XP CD the first time I installed Korean. I'll type a few Korean characters in this message; I realize they may not display properly on your computer. Here goes: [ch48141] [ch12615] [ch12615] [ch12623] [ch12599] [ch12623] [ch12643] [ch12616] [ch12640]. The Korean visitor mentioned above had a keyboard guide and had also used an English keyboard in Korea, so he was able to compose email in Korean. Installing Korean, or any foreign language, adds a language bar which appears in the Notification area, or it can be positioned at the top of the desktop screen. It ALLOWS the user to switch back and forth between languages by simply clicking on the toolbar. Here an image with it placed at top of the screen: I tried installing Spanish and it did appear in the language bar. However, I saw no change in actual characters TYPED from my keyboard. I briefly searched for some info and found a reference indicating a keyboard change is needed. See The easiest way I know of to write in Spanish with Windows XP . I did not pursue that further, but this will at least give Silencer RPMs some info with which to proceed.I'd very much like to use my copy of Windows XP in French, how do I go about doing that, Soybean?! Edit: After a second thought: What you're showing me is the keyboard input language... Not translation the entire Operating System to Korean. Raptor French will cause you to Oui Oui. :-? Run the kill!Quote I'd very much like to use my copy of Windows XP in French, how do I go about doing that, Soybean?!Oops, I see I mis-understood the original post. When I wrote my reply, I was thinking he just wanted to send email to his cousin in Mexico. But, having read it again, he apparently wants to actually ship the computer. You are RELIEVED of the sentencing to the guillotine. You are correct about the installation I explained being the keyboard input language. With it installed, Korean will appear in any application (Word, Notepad, Wordpad, Outlook Express, etc.). But, Windows still displays menus, icons, etc., in English. French is one of the language options for keyboard input language, if you want to do that. We accept your apology and understand your exuberance. Run the kill. Quote We accept your apology and understand your exuberance. No problem, Soybean. |

Solve : Wodpws Power Shell. Why doyou ignore it?? |
|
Answer» Inasmuch as the Batch file structure now in use in Windows dates back to NT, one would think that more users would rater use Windows Power Shell. Or hay not? Using a new admin-focused scripting language, more than 130 standard command LINE tools, and consistent syntax and utilities, Windows PowerShell allows IT professionals to more easily control system administration and accelerate automation. Windows PowerShell is easy to adopt, learn, and use, because it works with your existing IT infrastructure and existing script investments, and because it runs on Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows Server 2003.So, do you use it? Do you agree that for simple tasks Batch File is better? Curious minds need to know Reply now!. I hate DISLIKE windows powershell. If only for the sole reason that it uses .NET... or at least is friendly with .NET classes.OH NO! Sorry I asked. Because .NET is used to hide GOAT PORNY Should I ad a poll? huh? Well, I prefer non .NET solutions. I just wouldn't feel right FORCING a HUGE download just to use a utility I wrote. COM will live on so I don't see any reason to move away from it- also it makes the smart choice and denies implementation inheritance altogether- which is a stupid OOP idea anyway, since you can't really know how to override a method properly. Powershell, well I haven't tried it anyway so I really couldn't say. Quote huh?Agree. The point I tried to make with humor is the security and privacy risk of the .NET stuff. I would not want something like that until is it compact and open source. You just don't know what is inside. I do not want to share in another man's sins, even when I don't see the sins. Anybody else? Do you think Power Shell is OK?Actually- I think the .NET framework source COMES with the professional, enterprise and team-system versions, but I'm not 100% sure. |

Solve : CD formated for Windows NT? |
|
Answer» Is there any difference in a CD formatted for Windows NT verse Windows XP? I am submitting a proposal that explicitly states information " shall be read-only CDs formatted for Microsoft NT"As far as I am aware, there is no such thing as a "CD formatted for Windows NT". CD-ROMS have their own filesystem(s) which are readable by a variety of computer operating systems. I guess it would be technically possibe to use The FAT or NTFS formats to format CDs I don't think so. Even if an emulation of one of these filesystems were possible on a CD ROM, (how would you make it?) no computer could read it. Quote but I've never heard of it actually being done. Neither have I. Optical disks (CD, CDR, CDRW, DVD etc.) may appear to work the same was as HD-based volumes, but the underlying file systems are *totally* different, right down to the sector size. So they aren't NTFS or FATxx. As the above Wikipedia pages make clear. Optical drives use a totally different technology from magnetic hard drives and the filesystems reflect that. hodges, are you writing this proposal hoping that "read-only CDs formatted for Microsoft NT" are somehow possible? If this idea originated with somebody ELSE, you should get back to them and get them to clarify just what they mean. Why do you have to CALL me out like that? There is no law of physics that prevents the CD-ROM manufacturers from adopting any file system that they choose! CD manufacturers don't want their file systems tied to Micro$oft's or (cr)Apple's, or any one elses file system. In addition, the CD manufacturers wanted non-PC devices (like CD players) to be able to read their format (ISO-9660). However it is still theoretically possible for CDs to use FAT or NTFS.Quote from: JJ 3000 on April 01, 2009, 01:50:27 AM Why do you have to call me out like that? I was not aware that I was doing so. I was continuing the discussion. If that involved disagreeing with you, then so be it. No attack implied or intended. Quote There is no law of physics that prevents the CD-ROM manufacturers from adopting any file system that they choose! There are "laws of physics" which mean that some methods of storing data on optical disks work well, with acceptable error rates and economically manufacturable hardware and media, and some don't, which resulted in ISO9660. NTFS and FAT32 are filesystems which are used on magnetic disks. A CD-ROM is a optical disk which cannot rely on error concealment or interpolation, and therefore requires a higher reliability of the RETRIEVED data. Therefore NTFS or FAT32 would be unsuitable for a practical data storage scheme using optical media. Anyhow, this isn't helping the OP, which is what we are here for. Maybe the OP merely means a CD-ROM which is readable by a computer running Windows NT, (itself a quite old operating system), or "Windows NT family", which means Windows 2000, XP, Server 2003 & 2008, Vista , Windows 7 etc. In which case ISO 9660 would do the job. Quote NTFS or FAT32 would be unsuitable for optical media.I agree. It would be unsuitable but not impossible. However, we are not helping the OP in the slightest by CARRYING on this technical discussion of file systems. Hodges, what is the exact wording of the form? The exact quote was "CDs shall be read-only CDs formatted for Microsoft Windows NT" I knew of no difference in CD format for any windows version, thus the question. Windows NT 4, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista is ISO 9660 Level 1, 2, 3, Joliet, and ISO 9660:1999. Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME is the same expect no ISO 9660:1999 extension. |

It will keep you safe from online scams, identity theft, spyware, spam, viruses and UNRELIABLE shopping sites. WOT warns you before you interact with a risky website. It's EASY and it's free. Solve : IP Address help for configuration of windows server 2003? |
|
Answer» Hello, guys how are you doing? i don't have more experience for the CONFIGURATION of a windows server 2003 specially with IP Address but i know a little about IP Address classes, before i ASK a question let me give you my idea in detail i am working in small office and we have 10 computers connected to server 2003 and the server IP = 192.168.0.1 which is class "C" and the subnet = 255.255.255.0 and there is no get way, the DNS = 192.168.0.1. right now, what i understand from this is the IP Address and the DNS server are the same, by LOOKING this configuration i thought that the IP Address and the DNS of the server are always the same. suddenly, i go to another office to meet my friend when i see their configuration of the server it is different just like that serverIP= 192.168.1.100, SUBNET = 255.255.255.0, and G.W = 192.168.1.1, and the DNS SERVER = 192.168.1.45, now my question is, 1. what is the difference between this two SERVERS, the 1st server the IP and the DNS are the same, while the 2nd server it's IP and DNS are different? 2. if it is possible according my configuration, suppose i have a gate way = 192.168.0.1 so, can i CONFIGURE like this? serverIP= 192.168.0.2, subnet the same, G.W = 192.168.0.1 and DNS = 192.168.0.2 is this possible? please guys help me i am so confused about this IP Address? thank you very much :- 1.) On your setup the DNS server resides on the same machine as your Windows Server 2003. I'm guessing Server 2003 is setup to handle DNS requests. On the other setup the DNS server is on its own machine, separate from the gateway and server. There is really no right way of doing this, it all depends on what fits your network infrastructure. 2.) Yes. That shouldn't be problem. thank you very muchOn your 2nd server it means you have another machine setup as your DNS that is why they have different DNS server unlike your setup that you're dns is same as your server. For me if your Server is also your Domain server its good to have one of your dns server to the domain server for easy validation. for your question, that is perfectly OK. good luck |

Solve : Overide user password? |

Answer» In between programmers on the software right now and the updates are information based. I dont know wht the original programmer never just created a SQL table for it. The REST of the program is. Ok, well I appreciate you taking some time out to reply. Thanks!just looked over this again, can't say I know of a solution, especially if you need access to their profiles to make the changes... you could, theoretically maybe make two users and then edit one of the profiles SETTINGS so that it points to the same folders, REGISTRY, etc by creating hard-links to the other users folders/registry hive files... but it seems a bit dangerous (DELETING the one account deletes the files from the other, too) and might cause other issues as well.Chris, do you know where the updates apply? Is it in the registry? |

Solve : Does Active Directory Restored in ntds.dit file Only?? |
|
Answer» Hi, guys how are you doing? please i need your help with the following questions about AD restored files. Oh! i am so sorry, this is always what i am doing? i thought it was different and was just thinking about ntds files only. Huh?? You lost me there. The reason for clearing log files in the first place is to free up disk space. Your concern was the disk space on C, and clearing out your log files is one way to address this somewhat. Quote what i am doing is, every three days by accessing the event viewer and then i make clear(clean) an application files. but i don't save them. why i should save them? is there any problem with that? Yes and no. It depends on if something were to go wrong with the server, and you need to look back at those old event logs to find out what it was... Quote 2nd thing, when i see the disk management says these two partitions drives are " Basic" Good. Dynamic Disks are a pain for partitioning software to deal with. You still didn't answer whether this server has only one drive or a RAID array. A single drive is not a good idea because if that drive dies and the last backup is not current, then you'll have MUCH bigger problems than just the amount of space the C partition has... A RAID array can be set up in one of several ways, but I'll list three of the most common: RAID0: Disk Striping. Two or more drives are involved. The data is written across all the drives evenly. However, if one drive dies, all the data is lost! NOT a good idea to use on a server without something else constantly backing up the array's data! RAID1: Disk Mirroring. Two or more drives are involved. Each drive is an exact copy of the other. If one drive dies, the other drive still has a copy of all the data. Replace the dead drive with a new one and the new drive will be a copy as well. RAID5: Disk Striping with Parity. Three or more drives are involved. The data is written across all the drives evenly, and contains information which can be used to rebuild if one drive were to go bad. Again, replacing the dead drive with new one will cause the information to be striped across it as well. However, more than one dead drive at the same time will probably ruin your day, as that means everything's most likely gone... Of course there are nested RAID scenarios like RAID 10, RAID15, or RAID51, but from what you're telling us, I don't think your server has that many hard drives to support a nested RAID array. Hi, guys how are you doing? i have tried what you saying but it doesn't support nested RAID array. thank you guysQuote from: yonee on July 11, 2009, 11:57:39 AM 1. Does AD restored in ntds.dit file only? What about the other files in there? What is the most important AD file need to take care? the size of the ad restored files are too small to worry about and would be pointless to move. Why are you worried about only having 18gb of free space on your C drive? How quickly is it filling up? Where is your SQL server saving its data (C or D drive)? Where do you store your web apps? |

Are they boxing?I don't know, it's kind of nice having it all SEPARATED by such large spaces. It makes you slow down a bit and really think about what he's writing. Solve : Didn't see a forum for Windows 2000 server family os? |
|
Answer» Hi, Brand new to the site...I lost my Windows 2000 server family disc. I have a boot error and I know that it is not my hard drive because I HOOKED it up to my other computer as a slave and it works fine. So is there anywhere on the net that I can download it and burn it to disk so I can fix it. Some one told me technet but I can't seem to find it there. Actually now I see that Technet has it but I don't want to pay $350 to join the site. I ALREADY have it and have my key. So it isnt a licsensing need it is just the install so I can fix my boot error without a re-install. I'm glad to hear that you found a solution, let us know how it works for you.Actually I havent found it yet. Just wondering where I can download it so I can fix the issue without paying. I mean $350 is more then the OS costs new. With a new key. Which like I said I have my Key just misplaced the disc. I am sure I have it somewhere but we just moved and it's probably in one of the hundred boxes in my garage. I might have to just tear though all those boxes unless one of you guys knows where I can download it. You can't download 2000 for free.Try booting from live Linux CD and using the repair tools? I've had some success with GParted - once the partitions are recognised, you can right-click on the partition and attempt a repair. (It may be that there is "damage" in the boot AREA.) What is the boot error, by the way?CHECK out some of the computer repair shops in your area. See if they have a windows 2000 server cd that has the same part number as what is on your sticker. Example: The CD will have something like "Part No. X05-07185" and the sticker will have "X05-54512" if both the cd and sticker have X05, or X11, or whatever, you should be able to reinstall with that cd. But if you're just WANTING to repair, and not reinstall, then any cd should work. |
