Solve : 95 change to 98 se?

Answer»

older computer, did REFORMAT to 98SE.

can't get past DOS prompt: "Type the name of the Command Interpreter (e.g. , C:\WINDOWS COMMAND.COM)"

Took disks out, Restarted, see win 98 screen, then back to DOS & same request.

Tried various versions of that line. Always returns to same request...?? Official Windows CD or the Sharpie version ? ?store bought real thing.Hard drive could be bad.Has 2 HDs. Everything worked in 95, just before re-format.
Downloaded "boot98se.exe" & MADE new floppy.

Still asks "Comm. Interp." question.
When I enter a:etc, now tells me "...Config.sys file too large for memory..." Then goes back to "type the name of the Comm.Inter. ..."

Am trying unplugging 1 HD now...?? Perhaps when I reformated, left 1 drive with old stuff still on it?Quote

So you haven't installed Win98se, you're still booting off a floppy?

MS 98 window shows up (briefly) when I boot from C. then back to MSDOS.
Have been trying both, from c & from disk...

just tried disconnecting main HD & formating 2nd. Just showed "no operating system"...

Back to main nowHow old is this older computer?
older than dirt...
but in a strange twist, I pirated parts from ANOTHER, (ancient) system & got one working.

As USUAL, have LEARNED a lot. Possible that floppy was not reading, not sure.

"the secret to happiness is low expectations..." Got one working. Life is good.
Thanx for your input. I "hope" we don't need to talk about my gear again, but glad to know you are there.
RicDo I need to close this thread out? I'm new... if so, how?
