Solve : errors while typing in windows 98?

Hello, I use windows 98SE.

I have this PROBLEM: when I try to correct a letter in any screen I am using to write, when I correct the letter the next one is deleted.

e.g. if I wrote

book

and I want to correct with capital B, I put the cursor before the b

|book

TYPE B, and the result is:

Bok

the next letter is deleted.

What is the problem?.

Please don´t tell me to reinstall, it is not an answer and it does not work.

Thanks!.If this is what I think it is, your answer is simple. While in Microsoft Word, or Notepad, whatever word PROCESSING system you use, hit the insert BUTTON on your keyboard. Then try tryping normally.

Why is the cursor before the letter you want to DELETE?
 Try cursor after letter then backspace and type in new letter. Quote
