Solve : Advance help with DVD driver needed?

Answer»

I haven't yet GOTTEN the DVD drive I ordered, but have everything else. There's one question LEFT. Does anybody know if there'd be a way to get it to read a 1998 game DVD under Windows 95? I was hoping somebody might have an answer.

The DVD-ROM drive is the Samsung SD-612. I need to find a Windows 95 driver for it.

The game I want to be able to get this drive to detect and run is "Riven: The Sequel To Myst". (The 1998 DVD version that REQUIRES Windows 95, as said on the box.)Do a search for OakRom CD/DVD drivers...they work on most units on Win95/98I did a search, but could not find what I need. A proprietary driver might be the better choice...

EDIT: Speaking of which, I went to Driverguide.com as I had originally planned on doing, and DOWNLOADED what I thought might be the driver for the DVD-ROM. When I downloaded a zip file for the drive's use, I saw a driver called "SSCDROM.SYS". The readme file was copyrighted in 1996 by Samsung.Quote from: Ryan on December 31, 2009, 12:01:54 PM

If you are talking about a DOS boot disk, then any GENERIC CDROM "driver" will do. If you are running the game from inside Windows 95, then you don't need any driver.
That possibly could be true. I'll likely save the drivers in case I do need them, and try to get Riven to run without them first. Riven isn't for DOS, and won't run without Windows active. From what you're telling me, it should detect a CD without a driver. Will the drive detect a DVD without a driver? Quote from: Ryan on December 31, 2009, 12:26:33 PM

That is the normal behaviour in Win95.
