Solve : Error Message (strange)?

Answer»

I hope someone can help me on this. I have a Win ME OS, and recently put in a brand new hard drive (WD Caviar Blue 500GB) and it acted fine for a week, but when I tried to turn it on one day I got this ERROR message:
"Expression - IdxStart=nBlock<=MemBlocks / Source - Line 284 of Msprintf.c"

If I have to guess, I think it's talking about a string in the registry, but not sure?
If anyone can help, I wound GREATLY appreciate it, I have old family photos that I don't want to lose!1. Hard Drive. My guess is a hard drive access issue, but only because I came across the following reference on the Internet.
"Logical Assertion Has Failed" Error Message When You Install Windows (292763)

That's a large disk (WD Caviar Blue 500GB). I didn't think Windows ME would handle 500 GB. I thought there were capacity limits due to BIOS and operating system constraints.
a. Did you partition the disk or just setup one "big" partition?
b. How big is the operating system partition?
c. What did you USE to setup the disk (hard drive vendor utility, fdisk, something else)?
d. Are you using "drive overlay" software to access that "big boy"?

2. Backup Data. You should "backup" any data you cannot afford to lose.

3. Hard Drive Diagnostics. Most hard drive manufacturers provide "free" DIAGNOSTIC software to test their drives. From the manufacturer website, download the APPROPRIATE file for the bootable media you wish to use. See Top 7 Free Hard Drive Testing Tools or Hard Drive Diagnostic Tools and Utilities (Storage)
