why does my cursor float?? Well with this amazing amount of information it is really difficult to say.  



See below.inghere is more information as requested. as i am typing like this, my cursor goes someplace else. (like on the first line above). how do i stop it .?Just for the fun of it, I'm going to post GX1_MAN's signature block comments.  I get the impression you did not read it.

And, some specific questions to the ball rolling: Is your computer a desktop or laptop?  What mouse are you using?  Did it previously work OK?  If you have a laptop, are you using the touchpad or an external mouse?  check your mouse for dust. what kind of mouse are you using? At my school some of there computers use these really crappy laser mouses from dell and they tend to jump around.im starting to understand what u need....its a dell laptop, windows 98, it started to happen about 2-3 months ago. it is not really a floating cursor as it is a cursor that jumps back someplace. if i dont keep my eye on the screen, i really screw up. thanx, it does not always happen, as it did not happen in this answer.How old is this mouse ? ?

Have you tried re-installing the drivers ? ?the laptop is 2yrs old, does not have a separate mouse. i have tried to clean it, but do not know if it helps...i have no idea how to re-install drivers...We still have precious little information. Please post the service tag (on the machine, or on the BIOS/Setup screen reached when you press F2 when you see the Dell LOGO.

We cannot proceed without this. It's been over 24 hours. We didn't even know it was a laptop until today. You perhaps could have had it fixed by now.

Click properties. Click the settings tab. Click the advanced button. Click performance tab. REDUCE hardware accelleration by moving the slider to the left. Click OK twice. Quote
